Speaker A

Here's today's reading.

Speaker A

Reading from the message Luke 12:22 32.

Speaker B

Steep yourself in God Reality he continued this subject with his disciples.

Speaker B

Don't fuss about what's on the table at mealtimes or if the clothes in your closet are in fashion.

Speaker B

There is far more in your inner life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body.

Speaker A

Look at the ravens, free and unfettered.

Speaker B

Not tied down to a job description.

Speaker B

Carefree, in the care of God and.

Speaker A

You count far more.

Speaker B

Has anyone, by fussing before the mirror, ever gotten taller by so much as an inch?

Speaker B

If fussing can't even do that, why fuss at all?

Speaker B

Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers.

Speaker B

They don't fuss with their appearance, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it?

Speaker B

The 10 best dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

Speaker B

If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don't you think he'll attend to you?

Speaker B

Take pride in you, do what's best for you?

Speaker B

What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving.

Speaker B

People don't know God and the way he works, fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.

Speaker B

Steep yourself in God reality, God initiative, God provisions.

Speaker B

You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

Speaker B

Don't be afraid of missing out.

Speaker B

You're my dearest friends.

Speaker B

The Father wants you to give you the very kingdom itself.

Speaker B

Well, in Today's reading, we're exploring Jesus's radical teaching about abundance, anxiety and what it means to live in the moment, really fully present in the moment.

Speaker B

So let's consider these three points to ponder.

Speaker B

The first is about going beyond consumer culture.

Speaker B

Jesus words about not fussing over food and clothing speak directly to our consumer driven society.

Speaker B

This isn't about ignoring our basic needs, but rather liberating ourselves from the endless cycle of consumption that drives environmental destruction and social inequality.

Speaker B

And this passage invites us to imagine an economy of abundance rather than scarcity, where everyone has enough rather than some having too much.

Speaker B

The second point is about the politics of trust.

Speaker B

When Jesus points to ravens and wildflowers, he's not suggesting passive acceptance of injustice.

Speaker B

Rather, he's illustrating a profound truth.

Speaker B

Nature operates on principles of abundance and mutual sustenance, not hoarding and competition.

Speaker B

This vision challenges the dominant narratives of scarcity that often drives political and economic systems calling us to work toward more just and sustainable ways of organizing society.

Speaker B

One more it's about the collective care versus Individual anxiety.

Speaker B

The instruction to steep yourself in God's reality suggests an alternative to our culture's individualistic focus on self sufficiency.

Speaker B

This God reality is one where community care replaces individual striving, where worth isn't determined by productivity, and where everyone is valued regardless of their economic contribution.

Speaker B

Here's an action step.

Speaker B

Practice what theologian Walter Brueggemann would call Sabbath economics, that is, choose one day to completely abstain from buying anything new.

Speaker B

Instead, focus on sharing what you have.

Speaker B

Enjoy what's in your present, and notice the abundant gifts in nature right here, right now.

Speaker B

Take advantage of that and get a sense of your own security and contentment.

Speaker B

We'll come back with a closing prayer here in just a moment.

Speaker B

I did want you to know that we have a resource just for you for your own at home Bible study.

Speaker B

It's called the ABC 123 Bible Study Method.

Speaker A

You can pick it up for free.

Speaker B

For you at our website Voice of God Daily let's pray, oh God, you're the source of abundance in life.

Speaker B

When anxiety grips us about never having enough, help us remember the ravens and the wildflowers.

Speaker B

When consumer culture tells us we need more, guide us toward what truly satisfies.

Speaker B

Free us from the myth of scarcity that we might live fully in your abundance.

Speaker B

Show us how to create systems of sharing where everyone has enough and no one has too much.

Speaker B

In trust and hope we pray.

Speaker B

Amen.
