Speaker AHere's today's reading.
Speaker AReading from the message Luke 12:22 32.
Speaker BSteep yourself in God Reality he continued this subject with his disciples.
Speaker BDon't fuss about what's on the table at mealtimes or if the clothes in your closet are in fashion.
Speaker BThere is far more in your inner life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body.
Speaker ALook at the ravens, free and unfettered.
Speaker BNot tied down to a job description.
Speaker BCarefree, in the care of God and.
Speaker AYou count far more.
Speaker BHas anyone, by fussing before the mirror, ever gotten taller by so much as an inch?
Speaker BIf fussing can't even do that, why fuss at all?
Speaker BWalk into the fields and look at the wildflowers.
Speaker BThey don't fuss with their appearance, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it?
Speaker BThe 10 best dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.
Speaker BIf God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don't you think he'll attend to you?
Speaker BTake pride in you, do what's best for you?
Speaker BWhat I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving.
Speaker BPeople don't know God and the way he works, fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.
Speaker BSteep yourself in God reality, God initiative, God provisions.
Speaker BYou'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
Speaker BDon't be afraid of missing out.
Speaker BYou're my dearest friends.
Speaker BThe Father wants you to give you the very kingdom itself.
Speaker BWell, in Today's reading, we're exploring Jesus's radical teaching about abundance, anxiety and what it means to live in the moment, really fully present in the moment.
Speaker BSo let's consider these three points to ponder.
Speaker BThe first is about going beyond consumer culture.
Speaker BJesus words about not fussing over food and clothing speak directly to our consumer driven society.
Speaker BThis isn't about ignoring our basic needs, but rather liberating ourselves from the endless cycle of consumption that drives environmental destruction and social inequality.
Speaker BAnd this passage invites us to imagine an economy of abundance rather than scarcity, where everyone has enough rather than some having too much.
Speaker BThe second point is about the politics of trust.
Speaker BWhen Jesus points to ravens and wildflowers, he's not suggesting passive acceptance of injustice.
Speaker BRather, he's illustrating a profound truth.
Speaker BNature operates on principles of abundance and mutual sustenance, not hoarding and competition.
Speaker BThis vision challenges the dominant narratives of scarcity that often drives political and economic systems calling us to work toward more just and sustainable ways of organizing society.
Speaker BOne more it's about the collective care versus Individual anxiety.
Speaker BThe instruction to steep yourself in God's reality suggests an alternative to our culture's individualistic focus on self sufficiency.
Speaker BThis God reality is one where community care replaces individual striving, where worth isn't determined by productivity, and where everyone is valued regardless of their economic contribution.
Speaker BHere's an action step.
Speaker BPractice what theologian Walter Brueggemann would call Sabbath economics, that is, choose one day to completely abstain from buying anything new.
Speaker BInstead, focus on sharing what you have.
Speaker BEnjoy what's in your present, and notice the abundant gifts in nature right here, right now.
Speaker BTake advantage of that and get a sense of your own security and contentment.
Speaker BWe'll come back with a closing prayer here in just a moment.
Speaker BI did want you to know that we have a resource just for you for your own at home Bible study.
Speaker BIt's called the ABC 123 Bible Study Method.
Speaker AYou can pick it up for free.
Speaker BFor you at our website Voice of God Daily let's pray, oh God, you're the source of abundance in life.
Speaker BWhen anxiety grips us about never having enough, help us remember the ravens and the wildflowers.
Speaker BWhen consumer culture tells us we need more, guide us toward what truly satisfies.
Speaker BFree us from the myth of scarcity that we might live fully in your abundance.
Speaker BShow us how to create systems of sharing where everyone has enough and no one has too much.
Speaker BIn trust and hope we pray.
Speaker BAmen.
