Speaker AIn fact, these lessons are some of the most powerful keys that will help you manage your emotions, improve your relationships and experience greater peace of mind.

Speaker ASo take a breath, clear your mind, and get ready for a game changing deep dive on how to stop letting anger win.
Speaker AThree lessons that change everything.
Speaker BHey, everybody, and welcome to our deep dive.
Speaker BToday, we are going to be tackling something I think a lot of you struggle with, and that is anger.
Speaker BIf you have ever felt like anger has got you on a leash instead of the other way around, you are in the right place.
Speaker BWe're about to unlock some serious secrets with some help from a real pro, someone who has helped over 15,000 people just like you.
Speaker CThat's right.
Speaker CTalking decades of experience here, helping people really understand and manage their anger.
Speaker CNo magic solutions, but real strategies you can start using today.
Speaker BOkay, so no waving a wand and poof, anger's gone.
Speaker BBut what if we could give you the keys to the car so you decide where this emotion takes you?
Speaker BThat's what Alastair Duss is all about.
Speaker BAnd he's broken it down to three core principles.
Speaker BOur keys for this deep dive.
Speaker CFirst, key awareness.
Speaker CNow, you might be thinking, well, duh, I know I get angry.
Speaker CBut this is about going deeper, noticing the subtle ways anger shows up before it turns into a raging monster.
Speaker BRight?
Speaker BLike, picture this, you're Talking to your partner and they are totally glued to their phone.
Speaker BOr you're stuck in traffic already running late, and bam, someone cuts you off.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker BWhat happens in your body right then?
Speaker CMaybe your heart starts pounding, palms get sweaty.
Speaker CYou feel that heat rising in your face.
Speaker CThose are your body's alarm bells, the early warning signs that anger is about to take the stage.
Speaker BSo it's like catching a whiff of smoke before the whole house goes up in flames, right?
Speaker BWhat are some of your telltale signs that anger is brewing?
Speaker BThis is where self awareness gets super personal.
Speaker CExactly.
Speaker CIt's different for everyone.
Speaker CMaybe you clench your jaw or your thoughts start racing a mile a minute.
Speaker CThe key is to spot these signals early before things escalate.
Speaker CAnd trust me, those signals are always there.
Speaker BOkay, so we are getting good at noticing those anger red flags.
Speaker BBut then what?
Speaker CThat brings us to key number two, and this one might surprise you.
Speaker CAnger never actually helps you solve a problem.
Speaker CI know.
Speaker CIt feels powerful in the moment, like this rush of energy.
Speaker BOh, tell me about it.
Speaker BIt's like that hulk smash feeling.
Speaker BBut does smashing ever really fix things?
Speaker BAlistair has tons of stories about people letting anger take over at work, with their kids, in relationships.
Speaker BAnd guess what?
Speaker BThey almost always regret it.
Speaker CThink about it.
Speaker CCan you honestly recall a time when anger truly led to a positive outcome?
Speaker CMore often than not, it just fuels the fire, creates more conflict, and leaves everyone feeling wor.
Speaker BIt's like throwing gasoline on a campfire.
Speaker BYou might get a big burst of flame, but then what?
Speaker BYou're left with a bigger mess to clean up.
Speaker CAnd that's what we want you to really consider here.
Speaker CWhat's the end goal?
Speaker CIf it's a peaceful resolution, a productive conversation, or just feeling better yourself, anger's usually taking you in the opposite direction.
Speaker BOkay, so we've got awareness.
Speaker BWe are ditching the anger helps myth.
Speaker BNow for the big reveal.
Speaker BAlistair's third key to controlling anger.
Speaker BYou ready for this?
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker BYou create your own anger.
Speaker CNow, hold on a second.
Speaker CBefore you hit that disagree button.
Speaker CI know this one can be a tough pill to swallow.
Speaker CNot saying you're a bad person for feeling angry.
Speaker CNot at all.
Speaker CBut stick with me here.
Speaker CIt's like this.
Speaker CLet's go back to that traffic jam.
Speaker CSomeone cuss you off?
Speaker COne driver is fuming, pounding the steering wheel, ready to road rage.
Speaker CAnother driver might just shrug it off.
Speaker CSame event, two totally different reactions.
Speaker CWhy?
Speaker CBecause it's not the event itself that creates the anger.
Speaker CIt's your thoughts about it.
Speaker CThat first driver is thinking, this jerk they have no respect.
Speaker CI deserve better.
Speaker CThose thoughts are like fuel to the anger fire.
Speaker BMeanwhile, the chill driver might be thinking, whoa, close call.
Speaker BGlad everyone's okay.
Speaker BMaybe they're having a rough day.
Speaker BTotally different story playing out in their head.
Speaker BSo are you saying we are choosing to be angry?
Speaker CIn a way, yes.
Speaker CYou are choosing how to interpret the situation.
Speaker CAnd that choice determines your emotional response.
Speaker CIt's not easy, but once you realize you have this power, it's incredibly liberating.
Speaker BThis seriously mind blowing stuff.
Speaker BSo instead of being at the mercy of every little annoyance, we.
Speaker BWe can actually choose to see things differently.
Speaker BAnd that changes how we feel.
Speaker CThat's the heart of it.
Speaker CYou are not a passive victim of your anger.
Speaker CYou are the author.
Speaker CYou are writing the story.
Speaker CNow let's talk about how to rewrite those anger inducing narratives.
Speaker BOkay, let's get practical.
Speaker BHow do we actually change those anger inducing thoughts?
Speaker BIt's like we need a mental toolbox for this.
Speaker CAbsolutely.
Speaker CAnd that's where cognitive reframing comes in.
Speaker CIt's a fancy term for basically changing the way you look at a situation.
Speaker CInstead of letting your initial this is unfair thought spiral into rage, you pause and challenge it.
Speaker BSo it's not about pretending everything's fine and dandy.
Speaker BIt's about hitting the pause button on those knee jerk reactions.
Speaker CExactly.
Speaker CRemember that example with the drivers?
Speaker CThe one fuming about the other person's disrespect?
Speaker CWhat if instead they thought, hey, maybe they didn't see me?
Speaker COr they're dealing with an emergency.
Speaker CI've been there.
Speaker BThat's a total shift in perspective.
Speaker BYeah, it's like switching from black and white to full color.
Speaker BSuddenly the situation doesn't feel so personal or threatening.
Speaker CExactly.
Speaker CAnd the more you practice this, the easier it gets.
Speaker CIt's like training a muscle.
Speaker CAt first, catching those negative thoughts and reframing them takes effort, but over time, it becomes more automatic.
Speaker BOkay, so for our listeners out there who are ready to start flexing their reframing muscles, what are some common anger triggering thoughts they should be on the lookout for?
Speaker CWell, everyone's different, but some classics include this is unfair, they shouldn't do that, or I can't believe this happening.
Speaker CThese thoughts often stem from feeling like our expectations haven't been met or that we've been wronged somehow.
Speaker BOh, I know those thoughts all too well.
Speaker BEspecially that this is unfair.
Speaker BIt pops up like a weed in my mental garden anytime things don't go my way.
Speaker CAnd that's perfectly normal.
Speaker CWe all have these thoughts.
Speaker CThe key is to recognize them, not let them run the show.
Speaker CInstead of, this is unfair, try something like, okay, this is frustrating, but how can I deal with it constructively?
Speaker BIt's like taking back control of the narrative.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BInstead, as being the victim, you become the problem solver.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd doesn't that feel so much better?
Speaker CIt absolutely does.
Speaker CRemember, you are not trying to suppress your anger or pretend it doesn't exist.
Speaker CYou are simply choosing a more helpful way to respond to it.
Speaker BSo let's do a quick recap of the three keys to controlling anger that we've uncovered today.
Speaker BIt's like a treasure map to inner peace, right?
Speaker CAbsolutely.
Speaker CKey number one is awareness.
Speaker CPaying attention to those early warning signs that anger is bubbling up like a physical sensation or a racing mind.
Speaker BKey number two is recognizing that anger is rarely helpful.
Speaker BIt doesn't solve problems, it just adds fuel to the fire.
Speaker CAnd key number three, the game changer, is understanding that you create your anger through your thoughts.
Speaker CAnd by changing your thoughts, you can change your entire experience.
Speaker BYou know, as we've been talking, I've realized something really important.
Speaker BIt's not about never feeling angry.
Speaker BIt's about choosing how we respond to that anger.
Speaker CExactly.
Speaker CAnd the more we practice these three keys, the more we shift from being reactive to being responsive.
Speaker CThat's where true freedom lies.
Speaker BIt's like we're graduating From Anger Management 101 to Becoming Masters of our emotions.

Speaker ALets recap each of these three keys to anger management that Jake and Sarah shared.
Speaker AKey number one was awareness.
Speaker AAs Jake and Sarah said, you can't change what you don't notice.
Speaker ABut when you recognize your early warning signs of anger, the heat in your chest, the racing thoughts, the tight jaw, you take the first step towards anger control.
Speaker AKey number two, anger never helps.
Speaker ANow, it might feel like anger helps in the moment, but it never leads to the outcome you want.
Speaker ABut staying calm does, clarity does, and awareness does.
Speaker AAnd finally, key number three, create your anger.
Speaker ARemember, it isn't other people's actions that make you angry.
Speaker AIt's how you interpret their actions.
Speaker AAnd that's good news because it means you have the power to control your response to other people, no matter what they are saying or doing.
Speaker ANow, when you truly understand these keys, anger stops winning.
Speaker AYou start showing up differently.
