Welcome back to another episode of health hacks as I continue talking about your kidneys. In the last episode I was talking about what does your kidney do, and today in Episode 422, I want to share with you three things that you may not know about your kidneys, and one of those is that the kidneys convert vitamin D into its active form calcitriol which is essential for calcium absorption and bone health so you can think of your kidneys as your vitamin D activator. They are also involved in maintaining the body's pH level by excreting hydrogen ions and reabsorbing bicarbonate from the urine, and a body in balance. pH balance is a body that does not live in a state of dis ease. And thirdly, they regulate your fluid balance. So by controlling the amount of water excreted in the urine, the kidneys help regulate the body's fluid balance, ensuring that your cells are all functioning optimally. Our body does not like being dehydrated, and the kidneys are crucial in helping to balance our fluids. So I thought I would share those little nuggets with you as we continue to talk about the kidneys and come back into my next episode number 423 where I will be sharing with you how you can better look after your kidneys in your everyday life the small steps that you can take to ensure you have good kidney health
