Hey everybody. Welcome to Sunday's edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Happy Lord's Day. Hope you're making it to church already, or you've already been, or you've been to church already? I don't know anybody that listens to us post church. Yeah. We're the kind of thing that people do first thing in the morning, and if they don't do it, probably not gonna come to it. Yeah. 'cause they're like, we already got enough church. Too much. We've been there, we heard enough. Too many pastors in my life don't need that many. Let's yeah let's be done with them. Yeah. So hopefully you are on your way to church. You're gonna preach for me again this week. Sure. Okay. Just gotta gimme at least 50 minutes heads up. Okay. Will do. Yeah, you can do that. That'd be great. I'll do that. We're back in first Peter continuing the series and looking at only two verses today. But just as long as sermon. Just as long as sermon, if not more. Whoa. So don't get excited, but it's child dedication Sunday. Oh. But I did take out a worship song for you. You, so I think that should buy you a little bit of time. I appreciate that, man. Yeah. At least five minutes. That's good. I'll utilize those five minutes. So we hope so. Yeah. Yeah. Quite a handful of of kiddos being dedicated. All boys. How many? I think we've got six or seven. Six. No way. Yeah, that's more than I expected. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I probably should take out another song then. Yeah. There's a couple of 'em. Same family though, oh, okay. It'll go quick. Two birds, one stone, that, the Chipotle line situation. Roll 'em on through quickly. Yeah, just roll 'em straight on through 'em at charge extra for the guacamole. That'd be nice. Which is weird that we do that with child indications, it's just a thing. It's a thing. It's our thing. Yeah. Here's guacamole. Yeah, looking forward to that. We've got 1 0 1 today too after church. So if you're new with us and you've been tuning into the podcast and you haven't been to a one-on-one, we'd invite you to stick around for that. That'd be good. Feed you, we'll provide lunch for you and give you an idea of who we are and what we're about. We only go about an hour or two, if even that. Sometimes we're out by like 45 minutes. Our last one went longer, but that was 'cause people had so many questions. There was too many questions, which was great. Kept us going. Six hours went by pretty quickly though. It did all things considered. Yeah. Did not feel like six hours. Yeah. So it is a platform though, a chance for you to ask questions, to find out, who we are, why we do things the way we do, and where you can fit with our church. And we feel like you probably will fit with our church. Oh, for sure. Yeah, we think that you'll fit. Yeah, we know you will. We don't have any questions because we answered them all over the last couple episodes. That's true. But here's something fun. Here's a fun thing. Chris Toman unleashed a new album. Unleashed. Unleashed. That guy's gotta be, he's gotta a New York 60. 60. Yeah. Yeah, because he's been at it, he's been at it quite a minute and get this is the first album I've ever seen, and I'm sure he's not the only one. I don't think he's innovating here. But it is pretty innovative for Christian music. He's got several songs, 1, 2, 3, 4 songs that are titled, get This, there's Emojis. I saw that. I don't even know what that means, right? We're gonna sing the Hands Up Crown Song. Praise the King. Praise Jesus. Praise at the bow down. I don't know. Praise the bird or the bird king. Praise. Praise the bird king. I hope that's not on there otherwise. Hey man, I like Chris though. I'm telling you, I'm gonna listen to the whole album and I'm pretty sure he's got a several. Songs that we will endure for at least in the next five or 10 years. He threw an oldie on there. Amazing Love. Did you see that's on there? Oh, I didn't. Yeah, I just, oh yeah. You are my king. Amazing. Oh, that one for sure is gonna last. Yeah. That one is, I am, I'm thankful for the opportunity to bring it back. Yep. Because there's a lot of songs that we used to sing back in the old day that I'm like they're old now and I don't know if anybody wants to listen to these or sing these. But every now and then I just, I long for those things. Yeah. No, for sure. They, yeah, it brought back memories. He's 53 by the way. That's not too bad. No, he's still really young. Actually young now I think about it. He's incredibly young. He's just hitting his stride. He's easily got 20 more years in him. Minimum. Yeah, minimum. Yeah. So he's got a new album out. So I have this thing called Music Harbor. Okay. It's an app that tracks song releases, and I know you could go to Spotify and it usually highlights people for you, but I just like to track and see what people are putting out. And so he's on one of them. Skillet has a new live album out, if you like, skillet. I've only really gotten a skillet in the last, like three or four years. Yeah. And I love them, man. They're so much fun. They're heavy. They're not doing anything that we could do during a Sunday morning, but they're fun. They have a female drummer Yes, they do. Who sometimes leads songs Yes. From the drums vocally, Jen Ledger. Yeah. That's crazy. She's pretty great. Yeah. She, yeah. She has her own band where she, I think she frontlines it, I think it's called Ledger now. They say that she's pretty talented, man. There's some really talented people in the world, and the more I see those people, the less talented and skilled that I think I am. Wow. Yeah, it's probably pretty accurate. Phil Wickham has a new speaking of talent. He has a new album out, dude. Yeah. I'll just let that go. You don't like Phil? I he's drifting. You think so? I think he's drifting in theologically or musically this and the other. He's never been super discerning on who he's partners with out there in music. Okay. And I find that he's partnering more and more with people that I'm more and more uncomfortable with. So like Billy Graham? Yes. Song number 12. Yes, absolutely. Billy Graham. A hundred percent. That song features Billy Graham. Yeah, that's what it says here, but there's no featuring on any of this song except for that one, at least looking at this app that I'm looking at. Yeah, I dunno. He's doing that Rich Mullen song, our God Isn't Awesome. Got yeah, that was great. That's a great song. That's super good. I have that one. He's got an acoustic version of that, which is super, super catchy too. Oh, cool. So cool. I don't know, we'll see I'm looking forward to listening through that whole album as well. So maybe I'll do Chris Alman first and then I'll do Phil Wickham and then, 'cause I also like songs that are not explicitly worship. I might throw in the 21 Pilots new album in there just to listen to that as well. There it is. Yeah. Third day, just recently did a modern rendition of Lord of All Creation. No way. Yeah. Third day. Still doing music, apparently. I did not even know that. Yeah. Mack Powell's voice is unmistakable. Anytime you hear it, it's oh, yeah, there's that guy. Yeah. Yeah. Him and the lead singer of casting crowns. Yeah. Or hall. Yes. Yeah. Casting crowns. I miss them. They're, I liked them a lot more than third day, no offense to third day. I liked them as well. Yeah. But casting crowns, I feel like everything they did was a bop. Loved it. It's such a cool story too. He was a youth pastor and stayed a youth pastor even when they were, headlining their own shows and stuff. He was like, this is my job. My job is to be a youth pastor. My job is, that's really cool, to be this guy. So he kept preaching to the students and they would schedule their tours so that he would be back at church for. Church on the weekends every Sunday. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, they really did. There's a documentary that's amazing. I can't remember if Netflix had it somewhere, had a documentary on casted crowns recently. That's cool. And he took it seriously and still does to from what I understand. Wow. Good for him. I never thought that he felt like a youth pastor. I don't know what that what to say about that other than I always heard it as something my dad would. Yeah. If my dad went to church, but it was one of those kinds of, it was dad's band. Yeah. I still liked him though. They had really great lyrics. Yep. Stephen Curtis Chapman too. He's still out there. He's on tour right now. Is he doing new music or is he doing all the oldies? I coming here, he's doing his old, his speechless tours. It's from his album. Speechless. Yeah. So when you got all those bops, man, you don't need to do new stuff, dude. People just wanna hear your old stuff. He has. Had a hundred chart toppers, I think. And wow. A couple years ago he was putting out, he was revisiting all of them on Instagram and talking about the stories behind the songs and stuff. That's really cool. Yeah. That's fun. And it's fun for the people that heard the songs as part of the, like their childhood, their youth, and then getting to hear it later on. In fact, I'm finding that a lot of artists that we grew up with are now touring for us. Yeah. And they're like, Hey. Come in, come buy our merch and listen to our band. And it's I gotta admit, I always think twice can I do this? Is this, I wanna go see them. Where's it, where are they playing? Oh, Fort Worth or American Airlines. I always do a double take to see whether or not I can go see these bands. 'cause I grew up with them. Yeah, we were talking the other day in the office. Modern music. Like I have zero clue what's on the radio right now. 'cause we nobody listens to the radio. That's part of it. Yeah. And unless you're streaming them, which I'm not going out there listening to no, what's the latest, best, pop music out there. So I'm pretty much just living back in the early two thousands, late nineties and hanging out there with most of my stuff. Yeah. I gotta wonder what it's gonna be like for our children. What's it gonna, I, there are songs that formed us and shaped us because they were. Everywhere. Yeah, were ubiquitous on the radio and then everyone had a cd and so when you'd go to a trip on the student ministry bus, they put the CD player on with the same songs. It's not that anymore. I'm sure there's a shared catalog. I just am less clear how that happens. I know that you choose stuff on Spotify, so like Fort Frank, he'll be part of a lot of our young people's story. Yeah. His songs, they're uplifting, they're fun, and partly because they're choosing that. But how does someone else break into that? I think in the world, a lot of it, like TikTok videos will make a song popular because a bunch of people will use that song. Social media, something will take off a reel or something will take off on with that song in the background, and then it becomes that's the cool song or whatever. You're right. I think TikTok does play a role. Social media as a whole plays a big role. Yeah. Which is why it's such a mixed bag. There are good things that it brings to the table. There's also a lot of bad. Yeah, there is. Yeah. Let's jump into our DBR for today. We are in Nehemiah eight through 10, so there's nine minutes on that. We, and we thought we had nothing. Oh, yeah. We always have something. Let's just roll Nehemiah eight through 10. We've got as we're reading the law. With the people here in chapter eight, and now this is a sign of revival because he's gonna do this. He's gonna read for a long time. But this is a sign that the people are serious about what he's doing here. And so as he stands up and reads the law, and notice he does so on a platform. He stands on a stage. That's one of the reasons why we preach from a stage, is it's modeled for us in scripture. And it's a way not to honor the man, but to honor the word, to honor that which is. Being proclaimed. And you'll see here that those that gathered to hear in verse three were those who were the men, the women, and those who could understand. So there was probably those that were of an age that they were able to comprehend. What Ezra was reading there. So I don't know if they had kids, men, and somebody was taking care of those that were too young to understand at the time. But they brought their children even there, that were capable of following along with what Ezra was gonna be doing. And they all gather together here in Chapter eight, four, the hearing of the war. And again, they're gonna honor it. He opened the Bible before the people, and the people stood, he opened the word, not the Bible necessarily, but the word of God. He opened the Torah, the scroll, and the people stand. To listen to him reading it, and they're gonna answer Amen. Amen. Which is agreeing. We say it at the end of our prayers, but it's basically saying, yes, let this be and they lift up their heads, they bow their heads and they worship before the Lord in response to the reading of the word after this. It's interesting 'cause in verse eight they begin to explain it. So here we see an evidence even of I think, preaching taking place here. Yep. So this is a full blown revival and the people respond in a way that is going to honor God. This is God's words effective here in chapter eight. I'm curious this morning, are you gonna have people stand during the whole sermon? The whole sermon, yes. Because it seems like that's what they do here. Yeah. From midday until, or from early morning until midday, they, I think they're standing like six hours. I, yeah. Yeah. I think they're standing the whole time. Dude, my legs hurt after standing for just 20 minutes during the worship set. Yeah, I don't know man. I don't think we can do this. I don't think they had folding chairs either. Oh, I don't think they had chairs that they brought out. Not even folding Camel. No, no Chairs nol. So it was probably either they're standing up or they're sitting on the ground. Oh, mercy. And my guess is some of the older folks that were there probably took a seat at some point. So I would think so. Yeah. But then again, man, maybe they were made of different stuff. It could been, I'm not saying our generations are soft, but. We're not the same as earlier generations. That's fair. I don't think that's fair. That's fair. And initially the people are shattered by this. They are, they're pretty wrecked over the realization of how sinful they'd been. And yet Nehemiah or Ezra rather, gives them an interesting charge. He says, don't be so distraught over this. Don't turn this into a day of mourning, but of rejoicing. It says that the joy of the Lord is your strength. And so it's. As though Ezra is cast in the vision and he's gonna do this then in into chapter nine of saying the opportunity here is the opportunity for us to repent. And the opportunity here is one of joy because you do feel the conviction and because God is being kind to allow us by his mercy. To hear from his word and to make the corrections we need to make. And so he says to the people, and that's that statement that we quote so often, the joy of the Lord is your strength. That's in the context of them being wrecked over their sin. And he's saying there's a way forward here. And the way forward is not just to be woe is me. We're undone Isaiah six before the atonement situation. The way forward is to say, okay, let's do what God wants us to do, and that is, let's obey him. Let's repent and we can do that. Because of the word of God, because of his mercy towards us. And that's where we get into chapter nine. And here's another Chapter nine you mentioned what was the end moniker. END nine. END nine. Yeah. So end nine. Ezra, Nehemiah, and Daniel chapter nine, each have a song or Psalm of repentance. Yeah. And this one's similar to Daniel's because this is corporate again, this is the. Prayer of repentance or the song of repentance or a prayer. Yeah. Yeah. And they are confessing their sins corporately here. And it's interesting because he the one speaking here, Ezra goes through and gives a bit of a history lesson. He goes through creation in chapter six to Abraham in or in verse six to Abraham in verse seven, down to the Exodus in verse nine. You've got the wa wilderness wanderings in verse 12. You've got the law being given in verse 14. You've got, yeah, the golden calf incident in verse 18. You've got the conquest of the promised land in verse 23. You've got the judges in verse 27, and then indications and implications of the kings as well. And just tracing back how Israel had been so sinful all the way through Chapter nine is what he is doing here. And then he says in verse 33, yet you have been righteous in your wrath. In all that has come upon us, you've dealt faithfully and we have acted wickedly. So in the confession. They're, he's not saying, God, you're unjust. He's going through the history and reminding the people corporately saying, we have done wrong. And then he gets to the end of chapter nine, he says, and or not quite the end of chapter nine, but towards the end of his prayer, he says, you've done right by us. Lord, you have acted righteously in your wrath that you've poured out on us because of our wickedness and our sinfulness. Yeah, take note about how this happens sometimes, and I think it's fine that our prayers for confession and repentance are generally more brief than some of the, Lord, please bless my spouse or do this good thing for my kids. That's fine. I understand the impetus for most of us to naturally gravitate toward this supplication part. But notice that how long this chapter is, he's traversed a lot of territory to. Specify and to highlight the areas where their unfaithfulness has been most evidence. So maybe when you're praying and you're confessing your sins to God, it is appropriate and good to identify those things. See, Lord, here's how I've failed you. Here are the ways where I have fallen short. That's a good thing. The goal is not shame because there is no shame in Christ. There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Romans eight, one. But the goal is to. Identify to the Lord. Yes, Lord. I see. I see that this is a problem and I'm gonna deal with this. I'm gonna want to turn away from it. I'm gonna confess it, and now I'm gonna live differently as a result of it. So take Ezra excuse me, take Nehemiah chapter nine and let this be a good template for your prayers when you come to the Lord to next repent. Chapter 10 then opens with a list of those who end up signing the covenant who end up being those that, that resolve together to say, yes, this is what we're gonna do. We're gonna move forward in obedience to the Lord. And so their names are recorded here for us in Nehemiah 10, one through 27. But then when we get into the last part of chapter 10 we get into some of the descriptions of what. This covenant is gonna involve, and I like the way that he breaks it down. I think in summary, at least in verse 29, he, it says there to join with their brothers and their nobles enter into a curse and an oath to, and here it is to walk in God's law that was given by Moses, the servant of God, to observe and do. All the commandments of the Lord are God and his rules and his statutes, so to walk, observe, and do that they're gonna make this a pattern of their life. They're going to constantly be aware of and go back to the word of God, and they're gonna obey the word of God as they do that. And so that's the summary of what they were committing to do. Okay, Lord, we're gonna. We're gonna have our care, our way of life, our walk, our whole manner of life is gonna be marked by obedience because we are going to be constantly aware of your word. We're gonna observe it and we're gonna do it. And that's good for us today too, to say we wanna do that as well. We wanna walk after the law of the Lord. Of course, as believers, we're not under the Old Testament law, but under the law of Christ, under the law of. Of the New Testament concept of walking in obedience and faithfulness to the Lord through our relationship with Jesus. Still we want to walk after him in that regard. We want to observe the commandments both old and new, and we want to do the ones that he's calling us to obey. Amen to that. I love the fact that every real revival and I think. Jonathan Edwards said something similar. I know he said it. I'm sure he did. But you here see it in Nehemiah chapter 10, that every true work of God, where there are some, there's a question about whether or not God's acting in revival. We asked about that when it came to the Asbury Revival. Was it called the Asbury? It was the Asbury. We asked it about the Lakeland Revival back in Florida when Todd Bentley was at the helm. We asked about revival. A lot of times, even now, people are saying, Hey, there's a revival happening in America because of what happened with Charlie Kirk. There's a religious response. And maybe that's true. Really time will tell. We don't know in the moment. We're just trying to walk carefully and be clear. But one of the clear marks of God's reviving work is a renewed commitment to here. You see it? The word of God, there's a commitment to know what his word says and to do what it says. And that's really a simple and helpful concept. And you start asking questions about, is God working here? Is God doing something? I see people raising their hands. I see strong emotions. I see crying and perhaps people just doing things that are outside of the norm. One of the ways that you can tell. If it's a true work of God is if there's a hunger for his word and a genuine desire to do what his word says, that's a really good sign. Now that by itself is not an infallible sign. I think there's sometimes where it can be confusing if there's attending circumstances, but that said. By and large, all things being equal. If there's a care for the word of God and there's a desire to do what the word says to focus on King Jesus again, he's the centerpiece. That's a really good sign. And then you see it here at Nehemiah chapter 10. That's a good sign. But also, verse 32, now I'll just quickly mention this. It says that they also take on themselves the obligation to give yearly a third part of the shekel. And so they're committing to support the temple, to support the people of the temple. And I think if you could draw parallel and I'll hold this one more lightly. 'cause this is not. A necessary point A to point B situation. But I think there's a genuineness to be generous with God's people, to be generous to the church and to see the church do what God has called the church to do. A love for the word of God, desire to do it, and a generosity to God's church. I think those are two really helpful marks of when God is working. Hmm. Let's be, let's pray and then we'll be done with this episode of the Daily Bible Podcast. By the way, y'all, we only have two more days in the Old Testament. I noticed that man I've been in the New Testament and I'm like, this is amazing. Yeah. It feels so different. You need, I need more New Testament. Probably most of you guys do too. Yeah. You should spend more time in the New Testament. So we're going to in fact the rest of the year. Alright. In the New Testament. God, we thank you for your word and we thank you for just the model that we see here. The response to the reading of your word and to being confronted with the truth of your word from Ezra and from the congregation there as they respond in repentance and chapter nine and the Prayer of Repentance and then chapter 10 as well, and just the commitment to. Even as, yeah, as Pastor Rod was just saying there we desire to have evidence of revival in our nation that is marked by a caring concern for your word and a softness towards your word. And that would transform people's lives and that we would be able to look at the evidence of the spirit's work and be able to attribute it to nothing else other than your spirit at work. And God, we pray for more revival like that. We pray that would be indicative of our church, that you would use the word of God to bring about change in the lives of those that. Are a part of our body that, that you would start with us. That as leaders, we would be constantly growing. And that also as our church, we would be constantly seeing people come to faith, seeing people strengthened in their faith, seeing marriages strengthened, seeing children brought up in the discipline instruction of the Lord, seeing students confronted with the truth of your word through student ministry as well. God, use your word in a powerful way to shape us, to be more like Jesus. We pray this in His name. Amen. Amen. Keep in your bibles. Tune in again tomorrow for another edition of the Daily Bible Podcast. Last day in the. Two more days. 2 0, 2 more days. Okay. Almost then second to last. Bye.
