Speaker:

Expectations lead to disappointment. When you put expectations

Speaker:

on other people, you're only setting them up to fail because those

Speaker:

are your standards and your projections of how something should

Speaker:

be. When your culture has an expectation for

Speaker:

you to be a certain way, but you fail, How does that make

Speaker:

you feel? If you want to actually start making

Speaker:

a major impact in your life, to start taking control

Speaker:

and living a life by design, you need to start. Welcome

Speaker:

to Krystal Rowe Impacts, a space dedicated to empowering

Speaker:

you to be the change that your bloodline has been waiting for. Join

Speaker:

me and together, let's inspire change. Today

Speaker:

I'm going to talk about expectations and

Speaker:

how cultural and society have placed almost

Speaker:

unachievable expectations on us and

Speaker:

how those expectations affect our life. And

Speaker:

are they even achievable? Are they even realistic? And

Speaker:

where did they actually come from? I'll

Speaker:

share with you a little bit of my high

Speaker:

expectations for myself and when I actually stopped

Speaker:

pushing those expectations and those boundaries. Because

Speaker:

for me, I just had such high expectations

Speaker:

of myself, especially when I came out of the

Speaker:

woman's refuge as a single mom with seven kids. I

Speaker:

just felt like the world was on my shoulders and

Speaker:

I had to keep lifting that world every day. And

Speaker:

I'm sure a lot of you can relate that it's just not achievable to

Speaker:

do all the things all the time. And

Speaker:

it wasn't very long until I

Speaker:

started burning out because expectations are

Speaker:

so unrealistic. They're so hard to

Speaker:

achieve. And when you are trying to just

Speaker:

live and get by day to day, having cultural and

Speaker:

societal expectations can be really detrimental to

Speaker:

your mental health. and your ability to

Speaker:

stay focused, to stay empowered, and

Speaker:

to stay motivated. And for me, expecting

Speaker:

life to be perfect was almost

Speaker:

like a must-do. It so much wasn't about being

Speaker:

perfect, but it was about breaking down

Speaker:

the limits, breaking down the societal expectations.

Speaker:

And when I say what society projected

Speaker:

onto me was single mum, teen

Speaker:

mum, never going to do anything with my life, never

Speaker:

going to be anybody. And I've really held

Speaker:

onto that for a long time until I realised that

Speaker:

I am not what my situations are.

Speaker:

My circumstances do not define me and I

Speaker:

removed those expectations. I removed them

Speaker:

from my life because they were not serving me. When

Speaker:

you have lots of challenges in your life and obstacles, everybody

Speaker:

expects you to fail or everybody expects you to

Speaker:

struggle or be an addict or

Speaker:

just cave. And when you actually shift

Speaker:

other people's expectations of you and focus

Speaker:

on your goals and what serves you and

Speaker:

how you want to show up in life, you actually

Speaker:

can achieve those things. We

Speaker:

just have to remove the expectations. I once heard

Speaker:

that expectations lead to disappointment. When

Speaker:

you put expectations on other people, you're only setting

Speaker:

them up to fail because those are your standards and your projections of

Speaker:

how something should be. That's what expectations are.

Speaker:

They are just something that you assume how it should be.

Speaker:

When in fact, it's not really achievable or

Speaker:

attainable. Yes, we do expect people

Speaker:

to treat us well, but it may not be the case. We

Speaker:

expect ourselves to do the best, but sometimes

Speaker:

we can't do that. And does that mean that we

Speaker:

don't keep being the best version of ourselves or we

Speaker:

keep trying to heal or keep trying to achieve

Speaker:

our goals? I mean, who decided

Speaker:

in your life what your expectations should

Speaker:

be? Who dictated and where did these expectations come

Speaker:

from? And how can you actually use them to

Speaker:

make yourself a better person? It's

Speaker:

always challenging when you're trying to heal and

Speaker:

navigate through life. And don't get me wrong, so many

Speaker:

times we need to have high standards and

Speaker:

we need to have things in place that are

Speaker:

going to help us to flow and to create a

Speaker:

beautiful energy and for us to be able to

Speaker:

experience a good life. But when our expectations are

Speaker:

set so high that we can't achieve them, and we start

Speaker:

to fail, when our parents set such high standards and

Speaker:

you start to fail, when your culture has

Speaker:

an expectation for you to be a certain way, but

Speaker:

you fail, how does that make you feel? When

Speaker:

you don't put those expectations in place for

Speaker:

yourself, you are controlled and dictated by outside

Speaker:

sources. So how are you meant to feel good? How

Speaker:

are you meant to have positive energy when those expectations

Speaker:

haven't been set by yourself? So

Speaker:

if you want to actually start making a major

Speaker:

impact in your life, to start taking control and

Speaker:

living a life by design, you need to

Speaker:

start setting your own standards, not expectations.

Speaker:

You can have things in place that are going to help you

Speaker:

to achieve your goals and to create a life by

Speaker:

design without having the pressure of such high expectations.

Speaker:

I'm just challenging your brain to think a little bit more

Speaker:

about what expectations mean. Really

Speaker:

ask yourself how that looks. What

Speaker:

does it mean to you? Does it serve you?

Speaker:

Because when you choose to put yourself first and

Speaker:

actually have a life by design, I

Speaker:

can guarantee you that the right people that you need in

Speaker:

your life will start showing up. The opportunities and

Speaker:

the doors will start to open and things will just start

Speaker:

to align beautifully when you're in flow. And

Speaker:

when the expectations are removed and the

Speaker:

possibilities are endless and you are in control, your

Speaker:

life by design actually starts to unfold. I'm going

Speaker:

to share with you a little bit of how I

Speaker:

had to overcome an unrealistic expectation and

Speaker:

how it actually started to create within me barriers. And

Speaker:

that was when I had chosen to invest in myself, my

Speaker:

dreams, my goals, my business, and my education. So

Speaker:

because I had a poor relationship with

Speaker:

money, a deep-rooted wound around

Speaker:

money, I actually had put

Speaker:

so much pressure on myself. My expectation of

Speaker:

myself to achieve by a certain date, dictated

Speaker:

by the money program that I had, actually was

Speaker:

setting me up to fail. And when I

Speaker:

was able to catch it and realize, oh my gosh, why am I putting this expectation

Speaker:

on myself? Why am I trying to reach these limits that aren't

Speaker:

achievable? I stopped and

Speaker:

I reflected and I said to myself, what

Speaker:

am I doing? Why have I put this

Speaker:

unrealistic expectation, this unachievable expectation

Speaker:

on myself? But we all do it out of habit. We're

Speaker:

habitual creatures. So once we have learned something from

Speaker:

a young age, it keeps carrying out and unfolding. And

Speaker:

until we can actually realize that we are doing it

Speaker:

and it no longer serves us, and actually being able

Speaker:

to reprogram our mindset

Speaker:

around it, then we can actually help

Speaker:

ourselves a little bit more and a lot faster. So

Speaker:

once I removed that high expectation of myself being

Speaker:

able to achieve a certain goal because I

Speaker:

had invested in myself, so I was like, well, I need to

Speaker:

start doing this. I need to do this. I need to do that. I

Speaker:

didn't achieve it. And I thought to myself, who put

Speaker:

that in place and why? And it was because

Speaker:

I personally had a poor relationship with money

Speaker:

previously, and my program and my understanding around

Speaker:

something. And when I was able to remove that

Speaker:

expectation, everything started flowing. I

Speaker:

actually started to create and tick off all the

Speaker:

steps that I needed to do to be able to use

Speaker:

my investment as a return. And it's just

Speaker:

a simple awareness and removal of

Speaker:

that high expectation, that blockage, that can now actually

Speaker:

help me to flow and move in the direction. So

Speaker:
