Speaker:

I'm I'm working at as a dishwasher

Speaker:

I'm buying Louis Vuitton

Speaker:

That's crazy that's insane

Speaker:

I'm making twice that I buy polo right it's like okay and now I don't care like this is Polo Assassin

Speaker:

This is like$5

Speaker:

I don't care like I wear whatever now it's comfortable

Speaker:

I don't care what other business model so entry level that anyone cause there's such a low barrier of entry but there's such a high bar for like actually doing good

Speaker:

Like I know myself and maybe two other people in the DMV that are operating at that level

Speaker:

That's like maybe the one percent

Speaker:

I'm talking people that are actually charging like 80 two hundred dollars a haircut people that have editors people that have know they can they know their exact profit off the top of their head they update spreadsheets daily they plan out their marketing they have a marketing team

Speaker:

You know I'm bringing like over five figures every month of my haircuts and it gave me a big ego

Speaker:

I remember blowing money

Speaker:

I remember going to like nice restaurants uh clothes that was a big thing right I think the more money I got the less I started blowing the less I started trying like look rich

Speaker:

It's such a blessing but you don't value money as much

Speaker:

Yeah you obviously don't when you don't have expenses you don't value money

Speaker:

Money is just like a play thing money is just like a toy

Speaker:

Imagine me making you know five figures a month off haircuts with no expenses living with my parents

Speaker:

Imagine how big of ego I had

Speaker:

I thought I was on top of the world

Speaker:

I thought I was like rich

Speaker:

We asked last time I think I remember I think I remember your answer and I wanna know if the answer changed or not

Speaker:

I asked you

Speaker:

Dude I remember that question ah definition of success it's funny cause you said the same thing hmm my definition of success yeah exactly I gotta think about it again cause I don't remember what I said definition of success

Speaker:

success just has to be

Speaker:

And if you're listening to this on a podcast platform leave a review

Speaker:

It'll help us out big time

Speaker:

And it'll let us know that you guys actually like what we're putting out

Speaker:

All right let's jump right in.

Speaker:

Bristol you know back at it again part two part actually you know it's Haley part three because we went to the gym that one time that was part two and you know I was uh I was I was on the way here

Speaker:

I was listening to the conversation we had the first time

Speaker:

Yeah and every time you call on this podcast you have like this like little golden nuggets that you give out right

Speaker:

It's like last time you were teaching you were starting to teach barbers how to skill

Speaker:

Now you're doing this at a much higher level

Speaker:

Yeah and I mean I guess some people will call you like the barbers industry sensei

Speaker:

The way that you're making these kids like fucking like with you dude you're making kids like six figures in like two three months like like decent

Speaker:

We're getting

Speaker:

What are you talking about

Speaker:

Like when I was 16 when I was 16 years old I was not making six figures either

Speaker:

So it's like that's that's kind of insane but kind of I kind of wanna pick your brain at why you chose this

Speaker:

I know you said this last time yeah but I feel like you from now to a year that a lot has changed a lot has changed

Speaker:

Yeah so tell me what's up with that how's it going playing with the new business model

Speaker:

It's like bro obviously we both love Hormozy I guess

Speaker:

Yeah so it's like me knowing that he did gym launches like a big thing as I kind of looked into like the history of that

Speaker:

And that was a big inspiration

Speaker:

And obviously like are we gonna invest into the same types of stuff myself

Speaker:

Right and like the third biggest thing was bro it's like I feel like everybody wants to like run some type of like info business

Speaker:

Like everyone wants to have like a coaching business or whatever like everyone just I don't know I see people on like I don't like the way they're doing things

Speaker:

They don't wanna call them a scammer but it's like right I wanna do things the right way

Speaker:

Yeah so it's like I'm the type of person is like I'm gonna do something I'm gonna do the right way

Speaker:

So I guess like why I started was like bro it was more like I was like doing it for free for the for the people at my shop like for my coworkers

Speaker:

Yeah I would be like yo you wanna hop on a Facetime tonight

Speaker:

And I'll teach you guys how to edit

Speaker:

Yeah yo you wanna hop on a Facetime

Speaker:

And I like teach you guys so you were doing this for free already at the barbershop for free and that's what I tell people

Speaker:

It's like I would cut hair for free I would help other people I would give out free sauce for free just cause I like enjoy

Speaker:

Like it was fun to me so I was like bro like I remember Yusuf like he was like used to sweep up for me and then he was like Yo I wanna start cutting hair so boom he learns a little bit how to cut hair and he's like Yo I wanna start making videos

Speaker:

I was like alright bro if you're free like go on Facetime like I'll screenshot you how to make videos and how to edit and stuff

Speaker:

I'll teach you all the stuff I Learned

Speaker:

Like I paid for this stuff but like I don't care I'll teach you

Speaker:

And I was teaching him and he was like Yo my video did like 10,000 views like working out damn really like I didn't think I can really like I didn't think I could really teach that

Speaker:

Well but um but I was already teaching so that was like I guess the reason I started

Speaker:

And then I was like it is an opportunity to like have an online business where you don't have to be you know like cutting hair to make money because cutting hair is cool

Speaker:

I can make a lot of money cutting hair but like cutting hair is like a service based business

Speaker:

Yeah but like with other service based business like detailing you can hire employees to do details right

Speaker:

Um I guess did you say landscaping is a service based business

Speaker:

Oh yeah it is definitely a service a homeless services do the fulfillment the labor for you right

Speaker:

With the haircut can't hire somebody else to be the barber right

Speaker:

So I was like okay there's a cap now there's a cap on my time all right so like what's the next step

Speaker:

I mean obviously I could teach other people like this is not a new business model to be honest

Speaker:

Like I was in some type of like program myself

Speaker:

Like I had someone that was teaching me all this stuff

Speaker:

I knew he was making good amount of money

Speaker:

I knew he didn't have to cut here anymore

Speaker:

So I was like bro this guy can do it

Speaker:

Like yeah I could do it on a smaller scale

Speaker:

Not my plan like my plan was to do it on a smaller scale cause I didn't think I could be as good as like the best people in the industry

Speaker:

But then as I got up there I was like okay boom boom boom and it was good like it was it was not as easy as I thought

Speaker:

Right like everyone thinks like people sign courses or whatever like people think that's so easy to make money

Speaker:

Like it's yeah way to make money

Speaker:

Yeah I guess it is like you could probably scam your way to make a lot of money but they get some point

Speaker:

I was making like well like for for the entire time up until like last couple months

Speaker:

I was doing like one k two k Jesus

Speaker:

And I was putting in like 60 hours a week until like uh huh learning stuff myself testing out new stuff

Speaker:

Uh huh I was on calls with people right

Speaker:

And this is only making me like 2

Speaker:

3 k a month

Speaker:

They got basically 3

Speaker:

4 k a month

Speaker:

So I was having to cut hair

Speaker:

All the money I made was from cutting hair

Speaker:

Right yeah um yeah literally all the money I made is like from here

Speaker:

So I wasn't making any money off this country with a lot of people would probably think

Speaker:

And yeah recently I've scaled it

Speaker:

Um I guess I'm going on a different topic but it's like with my finances now I'm chilling cause like okay you guys see that like obviously is those expensive to live here as expensive to own my car now

Speaker:

So it's like my expenses are cooked exactly so I guess that comes with success

Speaker:

Like you know that's kind of what I wanted to ask you

Speaker:

Yeah

Speaker:

Well last year you still live with your parents

Speaker:

I was living with my parents

Speaker:

I was driving now and you're driving that I care

Speaker:

Now you're living in this insane building

Speaker:

It's nice

Speaker:

Yeah you know it's nice expensive nice driving and really nice car that's also very expensive

Speaker:

So definitely a lifestyle upgrade it is right

Speaker:

I would say like it's not make or break but it's nice to have

Speaker:

But like the other thing is okay so now the way I split it up is like I have like I was always bad with budgeting right

Speaker:

But now it's so easy

Speaker:

It's like okay the money that I make from cutting hair like my play money like I can do whatever I want with that

Speaker:

So like now that I actually make like I still work in the barbershop like all the time a couple days a week you know couple thousand a month

Speaker:

I could put that towards like a nicer rent if I want

Speaker:

And then all the money that I make for my online business from the bar education business uh huh I'm not spending that on myself

Speaker:

Like I have to pay out you you know how it is

Speaker:

You have to pay out employees you have to pay out other people but then like the little bit of money that I have left over from that I just put it into like socks or whatever

Speaker:

Oh yeah that's all I do

Speaker:

Like I don't touch it

Speaker:

Like I literally don't touch it

Speaker:

Yeah cause I see that business as like a long term thing

Speaker:

I feel like people who like they're not willing to kind of like you know stay down for a while with the business because I obviously like I wouldn't consider this like what I'm doing

Speaker:

My money right now obviously staying down

Speaker:

Yeah but it's like in a way I am

Speaker:

Because like the real the real decent money that I'm making for my new business I started that's actually starting to take off

Speaker:

I don't wanna like the worst thing you could do is just like dig into that and be like y'all making all this money let me go blow it off

Speaker:

It's like that's the most I've seen people do and it's like bro what are you doing

Speaker:

Right so it's like instead of rather than doing that I'd rather just pretend like it's not there

Speaker:

If I want if I want to eat out a lot that's just gonna come out of my pockets from haircuts

Speaker:

Uh huh cause at the end of the day now I don't have to rely on that to to live

Speaker:

Yeah like I did before

Speaker:

I know every day I see you kind of onboarding someone new

Speaker:

Right and like it seems like it's only ramping up

Speaker:

It is how do you how does do people just find you off of uh the content that you

Speaker:

Yeah so it's a whole sales process so what I have is I have like um I have a sales process where either two things either gonna come from my TikTok either gonna come from my Instagram or they're gonna come from my YouTube or they're gonna come from a trial reels

Speaker:

Right so there's a couple ways I have it so I mean I don't even care I'll expose the whole thing if you guys want to hear

Speaker:

It might be boring though I do trial reels which is like it shows to um like people that aren't followers

Speaker:

Yeah so I heard about it I haven't tried it though

Speaker:

It's like a paid ad it's like a cheat code is it really you do char reels it shows it to non followers so like I have automation to where like someone likes the char reel that gives value like uh people will people get like automated message being like yo you want more information check out my YouTube boom

Speaker:

People go to the YouTube they'll be like oh god okay this guy's not bsing like he actually kind of knows what he's talking about

Speaker:

Yeah yeah and then at the end of the YouTube video I'll just have a CT and be like yo if you guys are actually interested in work with me I can help you guys out book a call boom they both could call um hmm um or they just like swipe up on Instagram Stories

Speaker:

To be honest that's why I stay active on it because they'll swipe up a little bit yo boom boom boom

Speaker:

So and so is charging a hundred bucks now like he helped me like I know he paid you I know he worked with you like how do I cry

Speaker:

So word of mouth is a real good word amount is huge dude referrals are always huge like for barbers no but for this space yeah like I've got so many referrals where it's like okay someone sees a barber in their shop like doing really well for themselves and like damn like I already know he went through you like I already know you helped him out with his marketing with his you know systems

Speaker:

Like I know you did all that like can you just help me do the same thing

Speaker:

And those are the people that get good results

Speaker:

I'm not gonna lie it's like the opportunity in in barbering I only ask you a question I feel like I'm yapping

Speaker:

No go ahead keep going

Speaker:

It's the opportunity in barbering right now is insane bro and that's what people don't realize like the opportunity as a barber in 2025 is ridiculous right

Speaker:

Like more than ever you can charge a lot of money you can get a lot of freedom like like seriously think about like what other business models so entry level that anyone because there's such a low barrier of entry but there's such a high bar for like actually doing good

Speaker:

Because at the end of the day anyone can pick up a clippers anyone can be a barber

Speaker:

But I feel like the different stages like first stage is like like oh yeah I just want to be a barber

Speaker:

You get clippers you cut up your brother you cut up your friend and then you kind of quit because it gets hard and it's gonna be people that don't quit and like okay this is cool but okay I'm charging like 25 charging like$40 I'm kind of making like a little bit above average money but they just kind of stay average

Speaker:

But it's like average for a barber is good

Speaker:

Like don't get me wrong like you're 18 making 25 40 hours it's good money

Speaker:

Yeah 16 making 25 hours it's really good money compared to what a normal 16 year old

Speaker:

So like the opportunity is there but then you have like the cut off and the cut off is like the people who are like damn like I see this as a potential like a real business

Speaker:

It's like do that you can scale this to the moon right

Speaker:

It's like any other business right

Speaker:

But people a lot of people don't view it as a business

Speaker:

I feel like hey real quick if you're still watching or listening congratulations

Speaker:

You don't have the attention span of a goldfish and it also seems like you like what you're listening or watching

Speaker:

So why not subscribe leave a comment like or if you're in a podcast platform it was a review

Speaker:

It helps us out more than you think

Speaker:

All right let's get back into it

Speaker:

Yeah I think that um I guess people started as a side hustle first

Speaker:

Yeah exactly how you started

Speaker:

I remember you told me uh you started your parents garage

Speaker:

I let you go

Speaker:

You can make a little bit extra money you know do some haircuts

Speaker:

Hey 20 20 bucks here I'll cut my hair I'll do it for free yeah etc

Speaker:

So based on all that and all the barbers that you talked about do you think that barbers usually underestimate how much it takes to really succeed in the space or do you think they overestimate as in how hard they should be trying

Speaker:

I feel like they overestimate how hard it really is because I feel at the end of the day

Speaker:

It's not it's not some like crazy no difficult thing to succeed as a barber cause you can always break it down

Speaker:

It's like okay if you wanna make like everyone's like I wanna make 10,000 a month

Speaker:

Right so okay what is that

Speaker:

It's like 60 at$60 yeah that's like 40 I think it's 43 around like 43 haircuts a week at$60

Speaker:

That's pretty achievable right

Speaker:

Like it's nothing crazy

Speaker:

Um I feel like what separates the people who is how serious people are

Speaker:

Right um like think about any other business owner

Speaker:

They're gonna be knowing how much they make they're gonna be knowing their profit they're gonna be knowing all these numbers

Speaker:

Like a lot of people don't even know that information like it's like a bare minimum type of thing

Speaker:

Yeah yeah I know what you mean

Speaker:

Yeah so you obviously have your spreadsheets you have your profit and stuff

Speaker:

That's a given with a running like a landscaping business like with a barber business where it's just like you're your own boss

Speaker:

You don't have a team

Speaker:

Well you can get us out later cause there is there is way celebrities stuff right

Speaker:

There's there's so many opportunities right like you can really take it to the moon right like how many barbers understand that you can have opportunities to make like multiple sources of income

Speaker:

How many barbers understand the fact that you can hire employees at any people will be like well you can hire employees

Speaker:

You're just a barber but it's like okay you can hire a marketing team you can hire an assistant to help with your bank account alright managing your finances you can hire an assistant to post your videos for you you can automate a lot of stuff

Speaker:

Yeah and like I see the people that are operating at that level

Speaker:

There's very few like I know myself and maybe two other people in the DMV that are operating at that level

Speaker:

Really maybe two other people

Speaker:

That's crazy

Speaker:

And that's like maybe the 1 I'm talking people that are actually charging like you know 80 two hundred dollars a haircut people that have editors people that have know they can they know their exact profit off the top of their head they update spreadsheets daily they plan out their marketing they have a marketing team

Speaker:

Like yeah probably a couple other people in India

Speaker:

That's interesting

Speaker:

So before we get into the weeds of how this whole yeah enterprise works for you I wanna know the bristle met a year ago is completely different from the person that I have in front of me right now

Speaker:

I think so I think so I think so

Speaker:

I think you definitely took things a little more seriously moving out

Speaker:

Yeah I mean the whole the whole moving out thing changes the responsibilities the shit

Speaker:

I gotta do this now like I gotta make this shit work

Speaker:

And before we started recording kind of talked about it as in how like people don't take life seriously because they don't have they don't feel like the sense of urgency

Speaker:

They don't have to pressure urgency because of the comfortability of like their life right

Speaker:

Like they either live with their parents or just they just don't need to pay bills or that is just how they were raised

Speaker:

Like they were raised with like you know a blessing to not have to worry as much

Speaker:

But it also is occurs because that caught like that sense of being comfortable yeah kind of surprises the ambition of growing more right

Speaker:

Yeah so based on that what is kind of one thing that you had to let go or you had to like that version of you had to die in order for this bristle to come out and do that what you did

Speaker:

Yeah I would say I just had to stop like I had to stop waiting on other people right

Speaker:

Like for example um I guess like moving out it's like when you're running a business really young like a lot of like obviously the biggest thing is your parents like parents are always gonna understand it

Speaker:

Yeah but it was kind of accepting the fact that like okay maybe they're not gonna understand 100 of what I do but I'm kind of show them right there's so much that comes moving out

Speaker:

It's like yeah you have the pressure to urgency but even back to like family right it's like now you know it's a blessing to see my family

Speaker:

Like I value time with them so much more cause it's something that's not given to me every day

Speaker:

Yeah and they did the same thing for them

Speaker:

Like when I actually come over to their house there's so like that time is so much more valuable

Speaker:

There's no arguing there's no like there's nothing

Speaker:

Yeah cause like we both value that time cause not something that happens every day anymore

Speaker:

We get sick of being around your siblings being around your family yeah right

Speaker:

And then the other thing is like I mean like you say it's how you're raised right

Speaker:

I would say like for me everyone's raised differently

Speaker:

Some people struggle growing up some people have it like made and they're giving everything

Speaker:

Yeah right I say for me um well my dad was in the army so it was like moving every couple years and so the way the army works as a career is like if you're in the army for a long time you're given a lot of bonuses you're given stability as in like you get a housing allowance right my parents house it's pretty nice

Speaker:

It's in burgers but it is paid for by the military right

Speaker:

So and they have like a grocery allowance right and they have all the stuff

Speaker:

So back to like growing up right like me growing up I'm not gonna say I was struggling cause I wasn't I knew that has this ability from the military

Speaker:

Yeah but I was also lucky enough to where my dad was like kind of hard on me

Speaker:

And I didn't like it at the time hard in the way where he was like um like to put it like straight up

Speaker:

He was like the oh I don't owe you shit mentality

Speaker:

So he would be like oh yeah like this money like it's kind of mine

Speaker:

Like you know I'm working for it

Speaker:

Yeah you know what I mean

Speaker:

So it would be like okay it would be like this it would be like um like a car right okay I went to Robinson bro like there's a lot of like really rich kids there everyone's getting their first car right

Speaker:

And then I was like yo dad like I'm kind of tired like you know getting rides from other people and walking

Speaker:

Like you didn't help me out with the car

Speaker:

He was like oh yeah I hope you'll get a car

Speaker:

Let's go look for a car

Speaker:

I was like for real but okay so he thought when I said help me out a car he thought he meant just like look for it and like check underneath make sure there was nothing wrong with it

Speaker:

Make sure I wasn't getting scammed on marketplace bro

Speaker:

One of them guys yeah he was like yeah you're gonna have to pay for this

Speaker:

I was like damn

Speaker:

Okay so it was like it was one of those lessons as like looking back is so like I'm so thankful that and like I'm so proud of myself too

Speaker:

Like my younger self bro like yeah maybe it's not a big deal

Speaker:

Like I bought my own car cash in high school yeah right like from barber money right

Speaker:

Like I feel like that's something that looking back I didn't think it was a big deal but now I'm like damn I'm really proud of myself for that so even starts with stuff like that right it's like okay yeah like I know military school like I don't have to make this work but if I want nice things or if I want my way I have to make it work right like if I wanna do things my way or if I don't wanna have to just live life that like my parents want for me I kind of have to go out and get it myself

Speaker:

Right

Speaker:

Um so the big thing like the car thing right like that that was where it started

Speaker:

I'm trying to do if there's anything else with that story cause I low key blanked

Speaker:

But yeah the car thing was funny

Speaker:

I mean even my dad was like yeah bro so like what's your budget looking like

Speaker:

Damn he took me to see like this shit box bro like I don't know if you know like a scion TC he took me to a junkyard he took me to a junkyard it was like a scion TC like 100,000 miles

Speaker:

That's crazy like bro we could tune this thing bro yeah he said we could tune we could tune the shit box

Speaker:

Yeah bro he was like he was like hey bro like you know don't tell your mom like it's a nice car like don't tell your mom the mileage like let's just get it

Speaker:

I waited off I got the Acura cause my dad was like yeah bro if you tune this it'll be fast

Speaker:

I was like okay fat

Speaker:

He was like we'll tune it together but that was good like that was a good start like me getting my own car

Speaker:

Um and then like later on what the parents think too

Speaker:

It's like my parents are always really worried like if I was making mistake by being a barber cause like this big piece of bro you're being a barber like what the fuck are you doing with your life like what are you doing with your life bro

Speaker:

Yeah but cause he wanted me to go to school obviously and I finally dropped out I died

Speaker:

I remember last time I was in school I finally dropped out

Speaker:

What did you drop out

Speaker:

Like I dropped out the beginning of this semester yeah damn

Speaker:

So I finally dropped out cause couple people were like check the box college drop out yeah my college drop out

Speaker:

Now it's like it just didn't have the time like it wasn't working out I was broke college was ridiculous bro like bro it was I was bro I started college on the park I think I did last year I started college and I don't remember bro maybe I didn't say too much about on there but now that I'm dropped out I don't care about bro

Speaker:

I I showed up to one week of class I never went back cause I got a parking ticket at Mason Bro

Speaker:

I got a parking ticket at Mason I like bro F Mason Bro and everyone back

Speaker:

I started doing online classes cause I realized I could still pass if I just did the work online

Speaker:

So I did like online for weeks chat GBT and then like I found this one kid bro I found this one kid that was like my client bro

Speaker:

And he was low key smart and he was in high school and he was like yo bro I'll be doing people's homework like let me know boom 500 a month you manage my entire school really the tests no the assignments yeah the test the assignments like literally everything

Speaker:

I was like okay bro yeah 500 a month plus bonuses plus free haircut bonuses

Speaker:

I was like bro if you get all a's hundred dollar bonus right like if you cheated all the way through all this yeah I mean I could have right except he got bagged

Speaker:

Oh he got bagged he got bagged

Speaker:

How on the final actually I don't think he got bagged so on the he's a kid and I kind of trusted a little too much for being a kid

Speaker:

So on the finals on the day of the finals bro hits me up and he's like yo bro yo bro I'm so sorry but I had JV soccer tryouts bro at the same time as the finals and I didn't take any of the finals bro

Speaker:

Haha it's like I failed my entire semester cause bro skip my finals for JV soccer tryouts fucking JV soccer tryouts like in 10th grade not even varsity he was in 10th grade

Speaker:

Dude I would have crashed that they didn't even make the team so like okay bro either either I try and find someone else or I just kind of like sunk cost I just move on

Speaker:

So I was like okay it's a sunk cost I'm done like dude

Speaker:

So how many months did this go

Speaker:

Like this was for my entire first year yeah four months

Speaker:

You spent$6,000 on this kid I did and then I was also paying tuition so it was like 4,000 a semester

Speaker:

You spent$10,000 in college I did nothing out of it

Speaker:

I burned$10,000 in college the only thing I Learned is just like okay it's just that's not what it is not for me bro

Speaker:

And then that's another funny thing with college

Speaker:

I have a lot of memories probably too scared to talk about this

Speaker:

And I'll talk about a lot more in this one cause I'm out of that shop but throwing that shop

Speaker:

I remember one thing all these kids from Mason that had like internships that were maybe from my school or other people's clients

Speaker:

Like bro they would try and eagle me like they're trying little bro me

Speaker:

They be like yo bro yeah man so I just got a 50 dollar our internship

Speaker:

I actually just cop this new watch man fifty dollars an hour

Speaker:

Like if you ever want help find a real job man just hit me up

Speaker:

But they would say like a passive aggressive way of you so funny be like oh bro I remember you're charging 25 or charging 40 now

Speaker:

Not bad man like what's that 40 hour be like

Speaker:

But anyways man I know you're at Mason

Speaker:

I'm at Mason like if you ever want help getting a real job one day bro just hit me up man I'll be happy to help you I'll be little you yeah it would be funny

Speaker:

Bro I'd be like I think I'm good like I think I think I'm kind of you know playing to be a barber

Speaker:

Like I don't know I don't really think I need that but I would just be like I appreciate you bro but that was one thing that was just so funny to me

Speaker:

It's like do they really not think that like barbers are making money like that

Speaker:

Yeah I don't know I guess I could a lot of art

Speaker:

Yeah college is done college is done I'm not going back to college

Speaker:

My any lesson that you took from college at all like lesson only anything at all dude I didn't really I don't count it as participating like I didn't I didn't go to college I'm not gonna lie

Speaker:

It's like it doesn't count like I can't say I went to college

Speaker:

I went for two days dude every two days and then on the second day I quit

Speaker:

I remember I was with my granny last week and I was like yo cause she still thinks I'm in college but she thinks I'm online

Speaker:

So I like oh yeah you remember like you know when I went to when I went to class

Speaker:

Maybe it's cause she's old she dead ass couldn't remember and she lives with me she was my parents so I was living with her

Speaker:

It was just me and her at the house

Speaker:

I would go to class and I remember one time she bagged me cause I came home early

Speaker:

She's like aren't you supposed to have class right now

Speaker:

I was like oh I canceled it haha but she remember me going to college

Speaker:

She was like wait a minute you used to go to college I thought you always been doing online

Speaker:

I was like bro damn I used to go to I used to go to I used to tell her I was in class and I'll be at the barbershop

Speaker:

I'm not gonna lie I used to tell her I was in class be at the barbershop

Speaker:

There's so many examples of college there's so many things crazy

Speaker:

What were you in college for dude

Speaker:

Okay so I was in college for electrical engineering electrical engineering then I switched it cause they were like oh you have to take a lot of in persons

Speaker:

I like okay if that I switched to um not cyber security

Speaker:

I can't remember what my major was oh management information systems which is like business it which is what everyone was doing

Speaker:

And I remember I remember switch choosing cause I thought that like okay not to sound like cocky but like I thought that like 70 k was like low key a lot like I thought that was like rich right

Speaker:

I didn't realize that that was kind of like you know there's more to leverage

Speaker:

Yeah so when people were like okay you can you do this when you're 22 you're making 70 k a year I was like damn okay bet say less say less 72

Speaker:

I was planning to make more like 100 but I was like 70 and then I don't know business you can make a lot more right you can make a lot more but it's not even about the money it's about the freedom

Speaker:

It's just like being fixed at 70s

Speaker:

Yeah dude I remember dude I remember the same exact scenario dude right I was in I was in high school it was a sophomore year and I was I I was looking online yeah I was I was looking online for like the jobs that pay the most

Speaker:

Yeah I remember bro that's the candidate what jobs pay the most which I was like going to everyone tough salaries

Speaker:

Yeah because I was like okay my parents wanted me to go to college so bad

Speaker:

So bro like bro it was like I think that's the only way to succeed high dream the pie dream

Speaker:

My mom would yeah oh my gosh god bless my mom

Speaker:

I love her but damn that lady oh yeah every day

Speaker:

But I was just search up well what jobs pay the most

Speaker:

Yeah it's like lawyer doctor newer surgeon yeah this and this and I was like okay okay I think a lawyer or doctor sounds sounds cool

Speaker:

So I was like okay what do I have to do

Speaker:

Go to go to college finish high school go to college for four years go to law school for 10 years or go to fucking doctor school medicine for like another 10 to 12 years was it

Speaker:

I was a feeling I was like I don't know man

Speaker:

I was like dude I cannot wait until I'm like almost 30 to make some kind of money

Speaker:

That's what I thought too

Speaker:

I thought it has to take it to your 30 dude

Speaker:

It's insane like why would I

Speaker:

Why was this like the expectation

Speaker:

Yeah why is the expectation

Speaker:

I need two things to it's like oh in school they really like I don't know in high school they kind of like planted this idea in your mind

Speaker:

Like looking back now that I see my brother he's in his senior year going through

Speaker:

It's actually really interesting cause he's the age that I was when I was going through all these thoughts

Speaker:

Right but he's a lot more

Speaker:

Okay I'm gonna play safe

Speaker:

I've tried to teach him to become a barber

Speaker:

He's not really like yeah he was really talented I'm not gonna lie

Speaker:

His cuts were amazing

Speaker:

And then he was just like bro it's too much work

Speaker:

I guess what he said like too much work

Speaker:

He just doesn't have that same mindset right now but whatever right

Speaker:

But it's like he's 18 now he works at chick fil a so he's like he's just no average high school kid

Speaker:

But it's like I try to put them on

Speaker:

He doesn't like the idea of business because he's a very like um well I don't know how he is more like a play a safe type of guy

Speaker:

Like he doesn't like risk yeah he's scared to take risks

Speaker:

Yeah so but it's like in high school you go to high school you know you ask the people there bro it's insane especially depending on what high school you go to

Speaker:

I know my high school everyone was going to college

Speaker:

I remember bro I could tell so many stories but specifically you guys okay I have to tell the story

Speaker:

Yeah this kid that used to make fun of me bro for being a barber and little bro me constantly every day

Speaker:

He would be like yo teacher bro yo this guy

Speaker:

Like he put in his college application for engineer but he but he's cutting hair

Speaker:

Like I don't know do you think he's even like gonna be an engineer

Speaker:

Like this guy would bro it was annoying like and he would little bro me he be like yeah man so like I know you have your little business going man

Speaker:

But my dad he actually like you know he runs a business for real bro so if you ever need any advice bro just hit me up bro like I'm your guy like you would little bro me right

Speaker:

Like it was in a disrespectful way he'd be like bro$40 for a haircut you're tripping bro like I'm never paying that much bro

Speaker:

My dad knows real business and he could even tell you bro that's too much right

Speaker:

So just little bro two weeks ago three weeks ago I walk in a dmvr and Falls Church and this guy's in the entrance getting a day pass so funny like oh my god Bruce was that you

Speaker:

No way so it was the weirdest experience I don't know if you ever experienced anything like that it was so weird

Speaker:

He's like bro how you been bro

Speaker:

I haven't seen you since high school bro

Speaker:

It was so interesting bro and he was just like yeah bro

Speaker:

He's like yo do you go to this gym now bro

Speaker:

So he went from low bro and you to day riding bro

Speaker:

Yeah that was so weird it's a weird experience but I was like the funniest part was I specifically remember in high school this guy telling me no one was gonna pay me$40 for a haircut

Speaker:

He's telling me that barbering wasn't a real career and now he's here just like geeking about the fact

Speaker:

I remember there's two things so first thing he was like he was like um I guess he's back from college but he was like oh like you know you be coming to this gym getting the day pass

Speaker:

I was like kind of and he was like oh yeah yeah like I'm getting the day pass

Speaker:

I like nice bro

Speaker:

Yeah I used to get the day pass to whatever right like normal conversation

Speaker:

But then he kind of found out that like this is my main gym

Speaker:

He's like wait a minute bro this is your main gym

Speaker:

Oh hell yeah bro that fan bro started glazy

Speaker:

He's like bro no way you come here every day bro no way oh my gosh bro I don't know it was so funny

Speaker:

And then the other thing was like he was like oh yeah bro like I heard you moved out like where do you live now

Speaker:

And I was like oh I don't live in Burke anymore

Speaker:

And then he was just like I don't know it was funny but it's like I just specifically remember this guy basically telling me that like I was cooked right like that was his whole thing like back in high school

Speaker:

He like I was cooked right but it's like now this guy is like acting completely different

Speaker:

So it was lucky a funny situation is like full circle

Speaker:

Do you think do you think I experience that not not from like I'll say for some people in high school X ray yeah right and some strangers here and there

Speaker:

But um it's it's weird because it's it's like it's like bro you did not you did not feel like that beforehand

Speaker:

Yeah and they feel like gotta act like it never happened right

Speaker:

It's like so weird like I remember you not only made fun of what I was trying to do yeah but also be little like little bro me yeah or like make fun of me

Speaker:

And I'm just like well where's that energy now buddy

Speaker:

Like yeah now it's almost like I don't know I kind of don't ever address it though like I don't know I don't I feel like it's immature like just be like yeah it is that is believe in me back then

Speaker:

It's an internal thought

Speaker:

I remember I remember I don't know I remember you definitely remember I definitely remember it but we're not gonna say anything we're just gonna pretend like it never happened yeah we're just gonna pretend like it never happened but we both remember

Speaker:

So it's like yeah it's it is funny it is funny but like kind of so we just forgot like I don't know yeah I know it's crazy but I mean it's a big thing being the being the being the bigger person you know yeah yes coming full circle is great

Speaker:

You feel like things have ever come full circle with your parents too like since moving out

Speaker:

Cause I feel like that's a big thing for me

Speaker:

Yeah as in like so like when my parents went out whenever I live with them yeah it was always uh I wouldn't say really clashing heads but they just had this is expected a lot for me right and like rightfully

Speaker:

So yeah right which is I think it's good expectations are good but like the constant like do this do this do this yeah I'm just like at that point my mindset was like bro I'm just trying to chill

Speaker:

Like yeah I really just want to get some money

Speaker:

I just want to chill play with my friends play video games like yeah just let me be

Speaker:

But then like I I quickly realized and I realized this lesson very early on

Speaker:

Yeah the moment like your parents ask you to do something right yeah and like okay you do it whatever

Speaker:

But like at some point you wanna do that thing for your own right like you are you taking the shit if you do it for yourself and you feel better so therefore you keep doing it and keep doing it keep doing it then the moment someone tells you to do it you're like I don't wanna fucking do this shit

Speaker:

Yeah right the same thing happened with like wanting to get ahead and wanting to like do something with my life right yeah my parents would always be like hey you know like like you gotta do this you gotta get a job you gotta go to college you gotta you gotta do something with your life like you gotta make money like don't be like us blah blah blah blah blah you know and I was like bro okay okay bro like I got time I got time I'll be fine I'll be fine oh this is my brother

Speaker:

I'll be fine

Speaker:

I got time yeah spams that

Speaker:

And then I like I swear bro it was like a whole epiphany

Speaker:

I I remember is like a magician little junior high school everything just clear junior year yeah yeah everything just clear junior year like rock bottom

Speaker:

Oh shit that shit it was um it wasn't even really rock bottom

Speaker:

I think it really had a lot to do with like the whole like pandemic thing and like the whole covid 19 thing

Speaker:

But um just the fact that I had so much time to be with myself

Speaker:

Yeah and like yeah me too

Speaker:

I was just I was just literally be my room like in class just not paying attention just looking at the ceiling

Speaker:

Like dude like I cannot do this

Speaker:

Yeah I can't I have to do something

Speaker:

That was like I had a job you know whatever I was making money but I was like dude like I want to make more money I need to make more money

Speaker:

Yeah that's when I told you like I searched up like the highest paying job and I was like no sorry

Speaker:

I was like and then I searched up who are the people who are the richest people in the world

Speaker:

Yeah two people in the world

Speaker:

And it was always like some like it was either like some prince some oil tycoon or it was some entrepreneur that meets some kind of company

Speaker:

Yeah I was like okay CEO

Speaker:

What the hell is a CEO right and she's executive officer

Speaker:

Okay this guy runs a company

Speaker:

Okay is that his company

Speaker:

Then I started like going deeper deeper deeper into like the whole business world

Speaker:

I was like holy shit like these people are making like hundreds of millions like hundreds of millions of dollars like not$100,000 not$200,000 yeah it blows your mind not blows your mind it's like pennies to them

Speaker:

Yeah it's like we're in school where it's like bro you college you know I guess it's still kind of not funny to me but it's like just a little bit

Speaker:

It reminds my old perspective when I hear people be like yeah bro like after college bro I'm looking to get a six figure job

Speaker:

It's like okay that's great but it's like I thought that that was a upper Pinnacle back then

Speaker:

Like I thought that that was a Pinnacle Pinnacle

Speaker:

You know what I mean

Speaker:

Yeah yeah I thought that meant freedom

Speaker:

I thought that meant like crazy

Speaker:

But once you kind of start hitting that number you realize okay there's more definitely just more out there

Speaker:

And when you're in control of your income like you can get out what you put in

Speaker:

It's like it's addicting

Speaker:

It's like I gotta keep going

Speaker:

Uh huh you know 100 k okay cool

Speaker:

Like you do want more but sometimes I mean about the the the like the actually like money stuff

Speaker:

But it's like okay I just wanna do better cause I know I went from zero to 100 k I can do that

Speaker:

I can do anything whatever

Speaker:

Right yeah yeah exactly

Speaker:

And now I I was talking to another friend's name is Michael

Speaker:

I was talking to him probably like yesterday

Speaker:

Yeah it was yesterday

Speaker:

Um and we went to the topic of like whatever gets you to your first million is I can get you to your first 10 million is I can get you to 100 million

Speaker:

So based on that what do you think is like your relationship with money now

Speaker:

As you've grown financially yeah you've gone more like you know you went from yeah first K to your first 10K to your first yeah okay how do you think that relationship will expanded that willing bro one day will be at the first million but we're not there

Speaker:

Yeah but I will say so the craziest part for me was my lifelong like not lifelong but like I said I wanted to make 100 k in a year and I thought that that would be achievable maybe at 25 when I kind of realized like I didn't even realize I did this until I looked back

Speaker:

And I was like damn okay 18 my 18th year my senior year of high school from cutting hair

Speaker:

I did 100 k while I was a senior in high school

Speaker:

So I was like damn whoa that shit to my perspective on money

Speaker:

Um a year ago I was when I started making serious money cause I got out of high school I had so much more time

Speaker:

You know I'm bringing like you know over five figures every month of my haircuts and it gave me a big ego

Speaker:

I remember blowing money

Speaker:

I remember going to like nice restaurants taking unnecessary trips some not all the time but like sometimes the trips biggest things like restaurants like the other thing was low key

Speaker:

Like um what else was I spending my money on

Speaker:

Clothes that was a big thing right

Speaker:

I think the more money I got the less I started blowing the less I started trying to like look rich

Speaker:

But back in high school when I was trying actually it's funny it's like a linear progression

Speaker:

It's like me trying to look rich and blowing money on clothes and like the actual money I made is like opposite cause when I was buying like designer stuff and nice sneakers and like trying to look really rich

Speaker:

Was when I was making$12 an hour at Chipotle

Speaker:

As I start to make a little more money from cutting hair I start buying like Polo K little bit you know not like I'm working as a dishwasher

Speaker:

I'm buying Louis Vuitton that's crazy that's insane I'm making twice that runs insane

Speaker:

I buy polo right it's like okay and now I don't care like this is Polo Assassin this is like$5 I don't care like I wear whatever now it's comfortable I don't care cause I feel like quarters it

Speaker:

Yeah you don't well you don't need to like you don't need to blow your money

Speaker:

But but I do spend money on other things

Speaker:

It's like it just depends on what you spend your money on

Speaker:

Right I guess back then like at some point you have a scarcity money around mindset yeah alright scarcity mindset around money where you're like okay I don't wanna spend any of my money

Speaker:

You start making a little bit but you still live with your parents so you don't really see the true value of money like you don't have expenses

Speaker:

When you don't have expenses it's such a blessing but you don't value money as much

Speaker:

Yeah you obviously don't

Speaker:

When you don't have expenses you don't value money

Speaker:

Money is just like a play thing

Speaker:

Money is just like a toy right okay yeah imagine me making you know five figures a month off haircuts with no expenses living with my parents imagine how big of ego I had

Speaker:

I thought I was on top of the world

Speaker:

I thought I was like rich

Speaker:

And it was funny cause my mom would always be like wait until you get some real expense like wait till you move out and start handling bills

Speaker:

Oh yeah definitely and she used to always say that to me as like a challenge

Speaker:

I was like okay bet oh hey okay yeah that's what kind of prompted me to do it

Speaker:

Yeah so I was like okay bet so I was like okay bear like now now what are you gonna say

Speaker:

Like when I actually do it when I actually move out like what are you gonna say

Speaker:

And I was kind of like a thing cause she would challenge you she'd be like yeah I see you're doing whatever but like you you know you're you're not leaving school

Speaker:

Like yeah so that was like a big thing right and then I was like okay bet and when you have expenses it makes you more serious just like the other thing

Speaker:

You're just way more serious with expenses and you do value money more

Speaker:

Like you don't wanna be wasteful with it

Speaker:

Yeah you don't wanna waste it and you gotta give some respect you know like yeah like it's a tool more than it is like it's a tool it's a resource yeah you use it to either grow a thing give it to you people help things out right and you just learn to like balance that right

Speaker:

It's like there's play money and like I said there's play money

Speaker:

Like honestly now the only thing I spend money on is eating out which I try and justifying away cause like okay saves me time

Speaker:

And then the car yes the car is like the brand new car the brand new super yeah super is like dopamine and then the Acura to like I'm not gonna lie

Speaker:

I started spending money modding out the Acura that was dopamine it was like that was my little like escape

Speaker:

Like you know I have a good day I have a good week reward myself

Speaker:

I'm like okay you know 500 this week

Speaker:

I can take it I can put it towards some new parts for the Acura if I want to

Speaker:

And I can work on that with my dad

Speaker:

And like to me that's you know like that's justifiable even with the super now

Speaker:

Like they're so expensive bro like dudes at least 1,000 a month expenses

Speaker:

But it's like like honestly it's a lot right it's like ridiculous but to me I feel like with cars different cause some people do blow money on cars cause they wanna have lifestyle inflation which is like the worst thing ever they wanna have lifestyle like me my life I just like driving like I was having just as much I won't say just as much fun

Speaker:

I was having fun driving the Acura and have fun driving a new car

Speaker:

I have fun driving it doesn't matter what car it is

Speaker:

I can drive my dad's car it's like a manual it's like an old ass car a manual V8 yeah have fun driving that

Speaker:

Yeah so it's like I enjoy driving

Speaker:

To be honest um that's the biggest thing I enjoy driving

Speaker:

So yeah to me it's that thing that I can spend money on written reason

Speaker:

And it's like okay cool

Speaker:

I spend money on a car now

Speaker:

So justified again

Speaker:

Cause it's like it is you know that one hobby that I have with my dad which is like a really good connection

Speaker:

Yeah go for a drive we go work on a car great hobby

Speaker:

So and I think that I think that's healthy you know like something that you know you can reward yourself on and not just be grime all the time

Speaker:

Cause I gets tiring and then you get burned out you get burnt out you get burnt out I think that as you grow and as you make more money and as you become more successful as you have more responsibilities not just as a leader or as a business owner but also like you know unemployed right you have yeah there's you have a media team yeah you have a source person as well yeah like bristle lashes didn't have any of that I do

Speaker:

May you maybe have one more responsibility more exactly so I wanna dig into that

Speaker:

How does that feel like knowing that everything you do every step that you make kind of in some way shape or form impacts other people as a huge thing right

Speaker:

How does that

Speaker:

So I specifically remember last month I had my biggest month with the barber education business right um and I got hit my biggest month with that and you know like the number was like big right

Speaker:

Like it was just it was like 30 right so the 30 k month I was bro I was idolizing the 30 k month just on the program

Speaker:

It was yeah so I was idolizing the 30 k month for like a year right

Speaker:

I was like my life is gonna change when I make this type of money

Speaker:

Haha it was with both combined

Speaker:

It was with also cutting okay so it was like um probably like seven of it came from cutting hair

Speaker:

Oh yeah so it was like still I was like bro my life is gonna change so much when I make this money

Speaker:

And it didn't obviously we all know that yeah everyone knows and there might never change when you make certain money

Speaker:

I was you know what this is a goal I promised myself

Speaker:

I bought the car and then it's like now you're in the stage you have that little moment where it's like what's next

Speaker:

I'm sure you know what I mean right

Speaker:

It's like obviously you always wanna set bigger goals but you have that you're not tired of that yet you realize your life didn't really change like bro do I really wanna like what is it my life gonna do

Speaker:

And then I had the thought like you said and I was like hold on you know because the thing is like for me and the way I am with my team it's like I'm I genuinely only get like work with people cause I have a small team

Speaker:

I only hire the people that I care about bro my editor my social media manager is is one of my day ones

Speaker:

I used to get free haircuts by me right

Speaker:

And it's my little brother's best friend like I look at him like a brother right and so it's like okay and then my salesperson like I've been with him for a while he's a friend of a friend he's like a good friend right and he makes commission so it's like who am I to say that I'm just gonna chill here and I keep growing or who am I to get lazy when I have people that need to be paid

Speaker:

Yeah at the end of the day I know my my sales guy keep on

Speaker:

I know that he has his own reasons on why he needs to make more money right and so especially cause he's making a commission who how is it fair at all for me to just be like why I made this and I'm just gonna stay here

Speaker:

No we have to keep growing the business cause at the end of the day he has to eat too right

Speaker:

And he has big goals that he needs to achieve so I need to make sure that he's able to keep growing

Speaker:

Yeah right so it's like it's my responsibility for him right

Speaker:

It's only fair right and someone I care about yeah same thing with Moshi right

Speaker:

Moshi is a guy who's my little brother's best friend

Speaker:

I look at him like a brother yeah right that's the other thing about having a team bro

Speaker:

Like the amazing thing is just being able like genuinely see these people grow right like I remember Moshi dude if Moshi's watching this shout out Moshi he's still in high school shout out Moshi

Speaker:

I remember like so Moshi used to get Moshi used to be in my class like long story short like Moshi used to be in my class I was like bro let me practice on your hair

Speaker:

He was like no bro you suck right

Speaker:

He was my little brother's friend so he was just like no bro you suck started going to me started getting haircuts

Speaker:

And then you know I remember telling I was moving out and he was one of the only people the only people I told he's like damn bro like that's actually insane

Speaker:

Like I I genuinely can't believe it right

Speaker:

It was pretty surprised and that was when he started getting this idea of like I kind of want to make money

Speaker:

I think like you know I kind of almost had to like but I showed him was possible right

Speaker:

So I was like damn

Speaker:

So he starts hitting me up being like I want to do a side hustle I wanted to resell

Speaker:

I was like okay well at least he's dipping his toes in the water

Speaker:

Like we all looked in a reselling we all looked into recent we all looked into recent everybody dipping his toes in the world of running a business

Speaker:

Yeah I post them looking for editor

Speaker:

He swipes up he's like Yo me

Speaker:

I'm like are you serious about this bro

Speaker:

And he was like yes I'm serious about this

Speaker:

And I'm sitting here I'm planning

Speaker:

I'm like okay I know he's a good worker

Speaker:

Like I know he's a hard worker

Speaker:

I know he's gonna respect me enough to do the work

Speaker:

I'm gonna give him a chance

Speaker:

This is like a couple months ago

Speaker:

I had other editors that kind of sucked

Speaker:

Okay most you actually care about him

Speaker:

I'm gonna give him a chance

Speaker:

I'm gonna map it out for him

Speaker:

Right

Speaker:

Yeah

Speaker:

So I'm like okay he's working at chick fil a with my brother right

Speaker:

His goal is to make however much per month

Speaker:

I think it's like 2 k months right

Speaker:

High school working like you know couple hours a week

Speaker:

Yeah how much is chick fil a paying you$12 an hour

Speaker:

Okay

Speaker:

We're gonna start you at 15 we're gonna start you at 15 per video once you get good I'm gonna go to 20 per video

Speaker:

That's more than your managers are making

Speaker:

Right

Speaker:

So if you pull this off and you do a good job working with me not only do you have an opportunity to make more than your managers at your current job that you don't like but you have an opportunity to take on more clients

Speaker:

I'm gonna refer you to more barbers

Speaker:

It's gonna give you freedom it's gonna whatever right so at the end of the day like oh it does give me like some type of like fulfillment knowing that you know some close friends and some close family friends like I'm able to help give them a platform or opportunity to work with me and like teaching him right cause like the biggest thing is me and Yusuf who are his second client right

Speaker:

We've been teaching him to manage his time better

Speaker:

We've been teaching him to like structure out everything right

Speaker:

So he's not kind of like missing days right now he's about to quit his job and work for us full time so just like seeing that is really fulfilling and I'm glad I'm able to help him grow

Speaker:

To be honest um dude it's funny cause back to the parents like it's just so different how they see things

Speaker:

Um I was at my mom's house the other day

Speaker:

Like my mom and dad they overheard that he's a family friend

Speaker:

They overheard the conversation about him leaving his job

Speaker:

Oh it was bad

Speaker:

Like they were like really

Speaker:

They were like you know you're a bad influence on this kid and like that's how they view it

Speaker:

They're like you're a bad influence on this kid like he's gonna leave his job to edit barber videos for you

Speaker:

I was like yeah but I can't and I'm I'm giving my point like the way I see it is I'm giving him an opportunity to have his own freedom to make you know more than double playmates

Speaker:

I'm telling you that my parents are telling you because he's a family friend

Speaker:

Yeah so they were like you know you're being a bad influence on this kid

Speaker:

I like Dang that is crazy

Speaker:

Like that's the way they saw it

Speaker:

When you're saying it cause they care they are saying cause they care exactly but here's other things like okay a year ago I would have really taken this the wrong way be like damn bro

Speaker:

And my parents don't believe in me

Speaker:

Like they think I'm being a bad influence on this kid

Speaker:

You know I would probably like they were probably argued and this would have been like I would have gone in my room but like you know blown for the day

Speaker:

But I'm not gonna lie like me living on my own is like I have bigger problems to worry about

Speaker:

So I was like okay cool

Speaker:

And my parents are pretty mad

Speaker:

Um my dad got pretty heated

Speaker:

I'm not gonna lie I don't know why he got heated but that's the benefit of living on my own

Speaker:

It's like I don't have to be like you know I don't have to be like you know you know like how I say like I don't have to be arguing with my parents anymore

Speaker:

That's the biggest thing

Speaker:

Like are they all right everybody

Speaker:

Yeah I was like you know you guys are kind of upset now

Speaker:

Like I'm gonna go ahead and head home

Speaker:

You know I came over here

Speaker:

I'm just gonna go home

Speaker:

And I went home I just went home and I was like girls cool

Speaker:

Press pause on his parents

Speaker:

Yeah I was like it's okay

Speaker:

You guys can handle that

Speaker:

You know at the end of the day I'm gonna keep working with him

Speaker:

You know I'm not gonna fire him not gonna tell him one way or the other

Speaker:

It's his decision what he wants to do for his job whatever

Speaker:

And I was like okay I left it at that

Speaker:

I went home did some work

Speaker:

I was good

Speaker:

It didn't ruin my day

Speaker:

Like it would have you know a year and then that's the other thing

Speaker:

It's like definitely parents value your time more right

Speaker:

For me it was really hard to get them on the same page but things have definitely come full circle a little more with my dad right

Speaker:

My dad army guy never went to college always wanted me to go to college

Speaker:

This is the one thing that he didn't do

Speaker:

Yeah I did feel bad

Speaker:

I feel like I was letting him down by not to college

Speaker:

But then the day I was like you know what

Speaker:

At the end of the day he just wants to see us like parents want to see us successful

Speaker:

Yeah that's what he told me

Speaker:

And I have conversations with him like that and I was like you know what

Speaker:

College success I see what you're doing makes you successful right

Speaker:

Like to me I see you're successful

Speaker:

Um that's all I really care about

Speaker:

He's like whether whether you're yeah I think he knows my parents

Speaker:

They kind of like I don't know how parents know but they kind of caught on that I dropped out even though I've never told them maybe making jokes about it like yeah what's your teacher's name

Speaker:

I got a joke and I'll joke back with them like definitely know they're sharp to me like they're on to me right

Speaker:

My mom will be like what are your grades

Speaker:

And I'll just be like I won't even try and like I'll be bad at lying

Speaker:

I'll be like I want to try to lie and make it committing like oh they're pretty good

Speaker:

Like so it's crazy

Speaker:

No they both know that I dropped out but I never had that conversation with them

Speaker:

Yeah so kind of do you feel like they know my my you know you know to this day my mother still like so when are you gonna graduate college

Speaker:

Like so what what are you gonna do

Speaker:

When are you actually gonna get a career

Speaker:

My grandma yeah my granny's gonna be like mother I mean more than you my dad combined

Speaker:

Yeah what's going on

Speaker:

My granny still like that she's like just waiting to get a real job one of these days

Speaker:

But she's old yeah graduate college when are you gonna bring me a degree

Speaker:

When you do this when you go to that I'm like mother like you're employed right

Speaker:

Yeah and then and then she I asked her I was like you're employed you have a boss right

Speaker:

Do you think your boss has a degree

Speaker:

She's like I don't know maybe that's how they got there

Speaker:

I'm just like you can probably ask your boss if I probably does have a degree because yeah why would he spend his time doing that

Speaker:

And I think it's like we show them what's possible but I feel like a lot of parents are still so stuck in their way that like okay so I would say this is my parents mindset now my parents mindset now is I got lucky

Speaker:

Like that's genuinely how they see it

Speaker:

Uh huh okay entrepreneurship there's definitely a degree of luck

Speaker:

Yeah I think there is

Speaker:

I'd say it's minimal I feel like I feel like anyone can do it with the right word the more you do the more lucky you get

Speaker:

Yeah it's like the more input you do the more luck but I think the way my parents entrepreneurship now cause it's always been a big topic parents parents parents

Speaker:

I think the way they see it now is I was one of the few who got lucky

Speaker:

I feel like that's the way they see it right

Speaker:

Because when I go to talk about helping out Moshi to start his editing business oh like don't influence him to do that

Speaker:

He's not he's not he's not like you right

Speaker:

Like that was a big thing that my parents said

Speaker:

They'll be like oh well he's he's not like you like you got lucky

Speaker:

My dad literally said this is like don't don't try and put your way of thinking on him

Speaker:

What's so bad about what you thinking what's so bad about what we're thinking about making my own money generating yeah generating jobs

Speaker:

I told my dad I was like you know like skills are more valuable than a degree these days

Speaker:

He's like I agree 100%

Speaker:

I was like okay so for for your son and my little brother who I care about right

Speaker:

Let's be real with him that you know just going to college and not even knowing what he wants to do with his life it's kind of unacceptable

Speaker:

My dad was like yeah I agree but I don't wanna have the conversation with him right

Speaker:

So it's like they I got talk about you know helping him start a business

Speaker:

My mom especially she's like you know okay well yeah your little you might be able to run a business but your little brother is not capable of doing that

Speaker:

Like that's how she thinks right you got lucky he's not gonna get lucky like you can't repeat this

Speaker:

Basically I think I think social I remember he was supposed to start e commerce and I have a lot of friends who are in e commerce

Speaker:

So I remember it was like it was like I was doing something bad right

Speaker:

I put him on the phone a Facetime with my friends who was doing e commerce and she walked in on him and she like snatch the phone acting like I was like doing something really bad right

Speaker:

He was like asking how to start e commerce one of my friends was really successful in e commerce right

Speaker:

Yeah and she was like it was almost like a get that out like a fight from a movie no way

Speaker:

She was like she was like don't you ever put him on the phone with that person again

Speaker:

I don't want him starting that e commerce stuff he's in school he's gonna go to school

Speaker:

I don't want him being a business owner

Speaker:

I don't want him doing what you do

Speaker:

Don't ever talk to me about business again

Speaker:

Don't ever mind

Speaker:

She had a conversation with me

Speaker:

She's like don't ever talk to me about business again

Speaker:

Don't encourage him to do that ever again

Speaker:

Gosh

Speaker:

Yeah so it was like protective

Speaker:

It was like fear of like what if you know what if he fails right

Speaker:

But then then I mean like that's the thing is nothing bad with failing he learns he actually tried

Speaker:

Yeah yeah yeah I think I will failure is inevitable right

Speaker:

Yeah and though I think the only way you truly truly is a good thing I feel like a little bro could have been running up a crazy e commerce business but or he could have failed failed to learn failed to learn okay well this didn't work out

Speaker:

I guess now I know that e commerce is not my thing

Speaker:

I'll go on to the next thing exactly but he's now gonna forever have that thought like damn what if it worked out

Speaker:

My friends were my mom specifically she was always really worried

Speaker:

She was like well okay what happens if you run out of money

Speaker:

What happens if you fail

Speaker:

What happens if like it's always what if right yeah what happens when this stops working

Speaker:

And I was like mom what if it works out

Speaker:

What if like I bullish it up

Speaker:

What if like make a million dollars and then I retire you and then I get you a house and then you like never talk to me about this shit ever again

Speaker:

Yeah and then she's like well that would be nice

Speaker:

And I'm like okay so then why would I not try

Speaker:

I feel like at some point you kind of give up this whole idea like proving them wrong

Speaker:

Cause like you gotta realize you're never gonna fully prove anybody wrong

Speaker:

So it's like I don't know yeah you you become them to 100%

Speaker:

It it just comes out to like you gotta show it he's got you gotta show it he's gotta show you

Speaker:

Don't nobody owes you you know trust in anything

Speaker:

Nobody trusts me nobody believes me nobody owes it to you because you haven't shown it yet

Speaker:

Yeah cause how many kids talk about what they're gonna do

Speaker:

They're exactly I'm gonna do this whatever

Speaker:

And sometimes it might just be like a reflection of their own like insecurities or like in the past things

Speaker:

Maybe like they said they were gonna do this thing this thing and then they never did it or maybe they did and they failed and they got this whole trauma a backlash from it

Speaker:

Right

Speaker:

So maybe your mom tried something in her in her life and then she was like well this didn't work out

Speaker:

So now I got that when she's trying to protect you

Speaker:

My brother passed down through generations and I almost had that like realization

Speaker:

It's like you know in the most respectful way

Speaker:

It's like the way of thinking that my family has hold on to his kept us to a certain point right

Speaker:

In this yeah for everybody's family yeah my family's way of thinking has kept us to a certain point

Speaker:

I remember having crazy conversations with my dad and like it was looking back like you know I don't think he saw it as disrespectful

Speaker:

I don't think I saw it disrespectful

Speaker:

But I look at crash that one time and I told him damn I crashed out

Speaker:

He was getting like college right

Speaker:

I was scared to be disrespectful to my dad

Speaker:

This is the most disrespectful thing I ever said

Speaker:

And I was just like I was like bro you know I'm in Robinson

Speaker:

Like there's kids that live like Cliff Tanks

Speaker:

People have generation of wealth

Speaker:

I didn't really tell him like why don't you do this

Speaker:

But I was like I was like you know I was like look like let's think about like this logically our way of thinking has LED us to here right

Speaker:

I was like what if I do something different right

Speaker:

I was like you know I could take your advice but at the end of the day you know like I love what you did I respect what you did but it's only got our family up until this point yeah right

Speaker:

I was like I'm trying to get to that next level yeah you understand what I'm saying

Speaker:

And he was like I kind of see where you're coming from

Speaker:

I was like don't get me wrong dad

Speaker:

Like I love what you've done

Speaker:

You worked your ass off right

Speaker:

Like my dad he worked his ass off right

Speaker:

Like he got kicked out at 17

Speaker:

Yeah he was he was crazy bro joined the army changed his life around grinded his ass off for 30 years

Speaker:

Now he makes like you know 6 figures plus from the army right

Speaker:

Yeah he's doing good

Speaker:

Right

Speaker:

But I was like and now that my dad has these conversations with me he's like damn

Speaker:

Like you know in a way it is crazy cause he'll say stuff to me was like I worked my ass off to be able to make the money I'm making now

Speaker:

And he's like damn

Speaker:

Like now you're doing more than me and you're 19

Speaker:

Like you really did take that next step

Speaker:

And back then he thought I wouldn't be able to do it right

Speaker:

It was more like a maybe one day you'll be able to continue on like okay he's here I'll be able to get here and keep going here right

Speaker:

Yeah

Speaker:

But really I wanna start where he

Speaker:

And that was something my parents always told me growing up

Speaker:

Like you gotta do better than us right

Speaker:

Like yeah each generation should do better

Speaker:

Yeah

Speaker:

So I told him that I was like bro how am I ever gonna do better than you if I don't make drastic changes to the way that our family runs things

Speaker:

Exactly how can you expect a different outcome doing the same thing that was over and over and over again right that how can I expect the same outcome but your perspective is based off your life right

Speaker:

And it's got you to this far right

Speaker:

And I've taken your lessons and your perspectives but I can't take all of them cause I took all of them I'd end up where you are and in the most respectful way right

Speaker:

I like I love what you've done but like my long term goal is to be better than you at your age right way way better

Speaker:

Yeah yeah and it's not even like I guess it sounds bad it sounds bad it sounds bad it sounds like you're not appreciative but it's not that it's just you you respect everything that they've done so far yeah right for you right here we're here to like take and it's like and keep going exactly and it's like it would be a damn shame if they did all that just end up exactly where they ended up

Speaker:

You know what I mean

Speaker:

Like no problems whatsoever

Speaker:

Yeah if anything it would just be disrespectful

Speaker:

It's the same thing

Speaker:

Yeah it's like okay I'm trying to really take to the next level right

Speaker:

I think moving out is another thing like you know with me and my dad like moving out we lucky we came closer

Speaker:

Cause it's like yeah like you know I feel like when you start paying the bills like dads especially like once you start paying the bills like when dad especially like they see you as like an eagle like they see you as like a friend

Speaker:

Now like yeah yeah my dad is more like like shit man how the bills go

Speaker:

Yeah exactly bro she's getting she's getting expensive right yeah exactly that's how it is now

Speaker:

So it's like me and my dad are more like you know cause at the end of the day I feel like you have to respect things like he has to have some level of respect

Speaker:

I mean he's told me like he respects it cause he's like you know you have to is like seeing your son really do everything

Speaker:

He said he's gonna do like makes me feel good but yeah it's definitely respecting

Speaker:

It's like more like okay now we're on equal playing fields cause like I can kind of do what I want

Speaker:

Like I remember getting a tattoo is a big deal right yeah yeah yeah I called my dad I was like yo dad like and then you get my my dad's head is like on the shoulders or where it's hitting

Speaker:

Oh yeah so but he was kind of um like I told him

Speaker:

I was like oh my god he's like okay uh when I was like in one hour no way but the barbershop I mean at the barbershop at the tattoo shop

Speaker:

Um I was at the gym on the way there on the way there yeah so I was like an appointment in one hour and then my mom was pretty mad but my dad he's like it was funny

Speaker:

Yes son I was I was the same way when I was your age man

Speaker:

Haha he's like yeah bro I was like you gotta get it from somewhere

Speaker:

He was like I was living on my own

Speaker:

I was in the army

Speaker:

I thought I was a shit man

Speaker:

I was paying on my own bills and I bought a Mustang

Speaker:

I remember I thought I was the shit gang tattoos

Speaker:

He was like you know what

Speaker:

He's like he's like you know I like he's like I can't really tell you anything

Speaker:

You're on your own you pay your own bills like you do

Speaker:

You really it's like it's like this like financial hold of like I paid the bills so I get to tell you exactly yeah yeah now that you pay your own bills you're like oh well like no one really tells you what to do cause like you are yours always

Speaker:

That was always like my parents use it as a leverage and be like who pays the bills around here

Speaker:

But you have to go to college and they were right like me dropping out of college

Speaker:

I feel like the long term plan was to move out so that I could justify dropping out

Speaker:

Cause I feel like it would be disrespectful for them to be paying for my bills paying for my food yeah and then not doing what they wanted with my life

Speaker:

And like being like oh if you guys I'm not gonna go to college but I still expect you guys to pay my bills

Speaker:

Nah

Speaker:

Right now it's like okay at the end of the day I'm in control of everything

Speaker:

It's I feel like it's a lot more fair for me

Speaker:

Like I don't feel guilty about it at all

Speaker:

Yeah so yeah it's amazing thing

Speaker:

It's like dude it's like that moment of responsibility dude moving out

Speaker:

Like you were the one who put that plant to that seed in my life

Speaker:

Yeah like I feel like dude first gotta plant that seed in my mind

Speaker:

Is like it's it's like like we were talking about it's like we were talking about with everything like the worst case scenario you just go back to your parents house back to there

Speaker:

Yeah you go back to what you were doing for which honestly it's not even that bad

Speaker:

But you get to your parents house you have food you have shelter you have all this and all that

Speaker:

Like yeah you get to if you have the opportunity to move out and live your life

Speaker:

Yeah and figure out if this is something that you wanna do and like experience how life really is

Speaker:

What difference is moving on living on your own and like going to college dorm

Speaker:

Yeah exactly

Speaker:

My mom thought it was a big deal cause she wanted me to go away to college

Speaker:

Yeah cause she was like oh yeah like you know all these other parents they're saying their kids away to college

Speaker:

You have to go away to college

Speaker:

She was mad

Speaker:

I was at Mason locally right cause she was like you know these other schools are offering you the same price as Mason to go away you might as well go away

Speaker:

And she's like I feel like you learn a lot going away so I use that as leverage

Speaker:

I was like yeah you remember how you said you wanted me to go away living my own house

Speaker:

That's different that is not different that is not different like anything it's better cause you're not influenced by everything

Speaker:

You're not influenced and I'll tell you from experience about you do not wanna go to those you know colleges people I've seen it

Speaker:

I've seen friends

Speaker:

I work for my brother a little bit cause I know bro is easily peer pressured

Speaker:

Like there there's there's this thing called like unteachable unteachable lessons right

Speaker:

So this concept of lessons that everybody has to go through no matter how many how many times you've heard it before like very heavily

Speaker:

Don't chase this girl

Speaker:

Yeah or like dude that's a big one

Speaker:

Don't do this don't do that don't let your friends influence you

Speaker:

Yeah blah blah blah blah like people will tell you this you like I'll be fine

Speaker:

It's okay

Speaker:

Oh yeah I'm different tell I have an exception

Speaker:

Yeah yeah oh it's cooked so yeah that is a can of event bro that is is definitely can of and it's just like bro the lives are living you're 21 I'm 19

Speaker:

It is really different to other people our age and it's like every time you kind of I feel like I'm in my own bubble bro

Speaker:

I don't know if you ever feel this way huh but I do feel very different and isolated from other people my age

Speaker:

And every time I kind of come back into contact with them where it's like old people from high school or kind of like it is like that feeling and it's just like like damn like bro I don't in the nicest way possible

Speaker:

And I not being cocky or weird but say I don't relate to people my age

Speaker:

And it's not I know it sounds corny but it's like I don't relate to people and I think that's completely fine cause you you you put yourself in a position of like you can't you you you can't allow yourself to be like everybody else

Speaker:

Yeah then you will get the results that everybody else gets right exactly

Speaker:

And then you also have to realize the kind of sacrifice that you're doing it by choosing to be like everybody else right

Speaker:

There's circle outcomes like you go on Friday night you wake up you wake up Saturday hungover you're lacking you're not on your tablet you're on your game yeah you don't wanna do anything you have to recover and guess what

Speaker:

Saturday night comes out

Speaker:

Oh let's go let's go party let's go party let's go drink

Speaker:

Yeah you wasted all of your Saturday recovering just to go get fucked up again to for what

Speaker:

Yeah and it doesn't make Sunday the same thing and you gotta get back to work on Monday

Speaker:

So it's like so it's like how can you ever get ahead doing that

Speaker:

How can you like do anything

Speaker:

You can't tell you just stay stuck and same and same stuff right and it's like I think I'm talking about the last one

Speaker:

I'm just glad I was never in that deep

Speaker:

Like I see my little brother he's pretty influenced by people but it's cause he grew up more it's where it's where you grew up and how you grew up

Speaker:

Yeah right my little brother grew up in a different place to me right like we moved so he grew up somewhere else to me right he has different friends he grew up with different friends um but me like you said 11th grade

Speaker:

I think I talked about this last one moving here being isolated basically for my entire junior year taught me so much

Speaker:

And the biggest thing I did was I couldn't go out to parties

Speaker:

I I I didn't really even talk to girls because I didn't really know a lot of girls from my school

Speaker:

Right so I wasn't talking to girls anymore

Speaker:

I wasn't going out anymore

Speaker:

Like I kind of didn't do anything but work

Speaker:

Yeah and I was the only one that would do anything but work

Speaker:

Yeah and it was really isolating

Speaker:

It was pretty like boring but taught me a lot you know coming out hold on sure we going out yeah teaches you a lot

Speaker:

Is it gonna like we gotta wait for the moisture that way

Speaker:

I love it cause yeah yeah I don't know if it's like noise isolating or yeah it's always isolating

Speaker:

But yeah dude looking back is just like I think we can all agree

Speaker:

It's like looking back every hard thing that we've ever gone through in our life is such a blessing right

Speaker:

There's so many of them dude this summer was hard bro summer was hard because I was in that transition phase where it was like every day I was waking up is this gonna work is this gonna work is it down

Speaker:

It was killing me bro that was around the end of the month

Speaker:

I remember there was a day where it was kind of like rock box I was like damn bro I really hit me I've been doing this you know like bar education like the mentorship for like so long

Speaker:

It's still a 3 k month I can't pass 3 k month like what is wrong with me

Speaker:

I woke up I remember like um I checked my bank account like my savings and I kind of just calculate like how many months of expenses I had left cause at this point I was making less than I did as a full time barber

Speaker:

Like I sacrificed my income and financial stability for this barber education business I started and it looked like it was gonna fail

Speaker:

Hey Jamie look who's gonna fail

Speaker:

I couldn't break 3 k a month and you saw these people online with courses and you see them all rich

Speaker:

I was like dude what is wrong with me

Speaker:

Like why is it taking me so long

Speaker:

First is cause I was doing things the right way right

Speaker:

My first year was completely focused on building a good product before I started marketing it to other people

Speaker:

Yeah you know and that was a big part of it

Speaker:

Now I have leverage because I have one of the best products and one of the best fulfillments so I have is markings easier obviously but it's all paid off like I wouldn't have had it any other way

Speaker:

But I do remember waking up checking my bank account during the summer and then dude here's the other thing that I love about just like how strong my faith is growing bro and how much being tested cause what did I do when I checked how much I had on my bank account

Speaker:

Can't do anything

Speaker:

Yeah I have what however many months of expenses left before I'm dead broke

Speaker:

I don't wanna even think about that but it's a possibility I have to consider

Speaker:

I started praying cause like what else can I do

Speaker:

Right yeah I started reading the word more every day

Speaker:

I think that's the hard part about being a Christian too bro

Speaker:

It's like it's inevitable that when you're doing well you forget you forget bro

Speaker:

Right like my entire you know the most consistent I've ever been with my prayer and reading the word has been at my lowest points and then it's just like yeah it's so hard to find time when you're doing well bro

Speaker:

But it's a discipline thing it's it's it's it's not even a discipline thing cause actually uh Michael my friend and I know you did the podcast yesterday

Speaker:

I think I saw one of your clips talking about this

Speaker:

He he actually he actually said this and it kind of changed it kind of changed the meaning of discipline to me

Speaker:

He said this

Speaker:

He asked me what I thought the meaning was

Speaker:

I said okay discipline is when you do something that you don't wanna do

Speaker:

Yeah so for example like when people when people would tell me like how do you go to the gym every day after work

Speaker:

Or like how can you work go to the gym get up whatever whatever whatever

Speaker:

I'm just like well I got like doing it

Speaker:

I like doing it

Speaker:

I feel like discipline is like doing what you have to do regardless of how you feel

Speaker:

We're gonna exactly exactly okay so there was this concept is called lower highs and high lows

Speaker:

Right so when you're at the top of your game when you're succeeding in life when you have everything that you've ever prayed for all the blessings have come true

Speaker:

Yeah you have to forget because there's nothing that there's nothing you ask for right cause you have everything so there's nothing for you to ask for cause usually when you pray you ask for something like god please give me this please show me the way please

Speaker:

This is yeah but we don't think yeah right I remember I remember that too cause I remember dude like it was it was crazy hitting that big month cause that's something I had been thinking about forever and going from literally couple months before opening up my bank account

Speaker:

And you know I didn't think I would go broke right

Speaker:

But it's like the idea of like what if I've never had that thought before right

Speaker:

How much months of expenses do I actually have saved up and doing the calculations just so I know in the back of my mind just in case all go everything goes to shit right

Speaker:

So I'm just thinking that and so yeah I just woke up cause October is a great month woke up November 1st

Speaker:

Um I was about to go look at the car with my dad and I was praying bro and I was crying bro and I was like I can't believe this like it felt great

Speaker:

I was like Lord I remember the time when I was praying to you cause I thought I was gonna go broke

Speaker:

I thought my business was gonna work

Speaker:

I thought I made the biggest mistake moving out here and why not just stay becoming a barber

Speaker:

Like online business isn't for me

Speaker:

I can't run some type of program right program suck everyone thinks I'm like a scammer or like a core seller

Speaker:

Like you don't wanna be those type of people

Speaker:

Yeah definitely I don't wanna be just a generic guy like selling course cause that sucks

Speaker:

Like I don't I don't even like those people

Speaker:

I don't wanna be one of them exactly

Speaker:

I see them online laugh at them I don't wanna be one of those people

Speaker:

Yeah so it's like damn like bro everyone like knowing like dude just like the insecurity bro

Speaker:

Like I'm not gonna lie it was the insecurity thing like when my business was doing bad it made me feel bad about myself it made me very unconfident even like social interactions

Speaker:

Like I noticed myself becoming maybe it's cause I was locked in the room all day but I noticed I become a little more anxious

Speaker:

I wouldn't talk to strangers I'll get really shy

Speaker:

I would feel like embarrassed a lot of times when my income was low or low yeah lower than what I expected

Speaker:

Like I feel like my self worth was kind of attached to my income

Speaker:

Yeah and that and that's like that's something that there's another lesson that you can have to detach yourself from the metrics a little bit more about the work

Speaker:

Yeah to be honest self worth should come from the work that you do from the work from the purpose of why you're doing this not the what you're getting out of it

Speaker:

You know what I mean

Speaker:

Yeah so it's like it's like it's the same thing with the goals right

Speaker:

You keep moving the goalpost keeps moving right

Speaker:

So you hit that 30 k month now while you're gonna hit forward and hit the 60 the metrics themselves don't really matter as much as like why you're doing it right

Speaker:

Yeah you're doing this because you wanna build the sorry no you're good you're good you're good huh oh I can tell you when we're done

Speaker:

What about a wrap up

Speaker:

I can go in I can tell you okay okay no worries cool yeah yeah you guys enjoy okay it's about it's about business business really what do you do

Speaker:

I'm a consultant for IBM for IBM yes really

Speaker:

Who do you work for for IBM

Speaker:

You work for IBM yes what do you do for them like consulting as in what consulting as in what as in like do you consult them financially

Speaker:

Do you consultant huh tech consultant tech consultant

Speaker:

Nice nice well great well we'll talk bye have fun

Speaker:

I just can't I just can't compete yeah but um what the fuck is about business

Speaker:

I kind of I kind of do believe her though but not really

Speaker:

Anyways um I don't know

Speaker:

No yeah so the the drop when the drive comes there's different shots of drives right so the hunger from when you will you get you so far yeah right

Speaker:

And then it's almost like a shallow kind of purpose as in like you're chasing this constant digit right yeah for example with that's what I was saying like what you hear you're like bro nothing's gonna change nothing nothing changes and it's like you celebrate for five seconds and you're like okay uh huh on to the next and you feel so empty because you're like okay I thought I was gonna be happy when I hit this revenue goal you're not but then you hit it and you're like you're not doesn't change it doesn't change anything

Speaker:

So it's like change anything you always have to fall back to the basics to the foundation

Speaker:

Did I show up

Speaker:

Why you're doing

Speaker:

Did I do the work

Speaker:

Did I show up today

Speaker:

And did I show up

Speaker:

Did I do the work

Speaker:

Did this get me closer to my goals

Speaker:

Yeah am I making the pack the impact the change that I wanna make

Speaker:

And if not what do I have to do right and constantly remind yourself of the why the why the why the why why is huge why is the why is what drives you essentially the why is why drives anything right

Speaker:

Why is apple a thing

Speaker:

Apple is not Apple's goal is not to be the richest fucking company in the world right

Speaker:

They're not they're not that they're here to make great products to help people has it right

Speaker:

What's what's for what's Amazon's purpose Amazon purpose is to deliver packages well to be the everything store right everything store for everybody to provide a good service

Speaker:

It's not it's not to make$100 billion a year

Speaker:

Yeah it's to be everything so that's the result it's like yeah yeah 100%

Speaker:

It's like when you detach yourself from the outcome or the money uh huh you're gonna be it's import versus output right yeah a lot of people like to say like even with okay with being a barber

Speaker:

I don't know if I told the story like everyone likes 10 k month right

Speaker:

10 k month whatever

Speaker:

Like that's a big number online

Speaker:

I didn't even realize I had hit that because I was so worried about posting content everyday marking myself everyday um doing really good haircuts like I was obsessed with okay every client that leaves my chair has to love the haircut

Speaker:

Yeah they have to like be feeling themselves you know that like every client leaves my chair has to have the best experience right

Speaker:

I have to make sure I'm consistent with my marketing every day

Speaker:

I'm going to the gym every day and then I didn't even realize how much money I had made until it was already passed because I wasn't every day did I get close to that hook

Speaker:

I just kind of let it happen and I focused on the input over the output

Speaker:

Everything changed

Speaker:

Yeah but it's like it's like you said it's like the why right because like I feel like a lot of people I don't know like that's the difference between the people who are like cause it's what it is is info right like it's the info business so that's the separates like these little like you know Miami Corseller people like see all Miami Fucking Corps

Speaker:

Yeah that's what separates those people from like the Alex Ramosi cause they're both in the same business

Speaker:

Yeah but Alex Ramosi has companies yeah because I feel like he has a bigger mission like he actually has to yeah I mean his mission is what bringing business making business education available for everybody yeah and that's a huge thing it takes a huge amount of money

Speaker:

Yeah therefore he needs to make a lot of money

Speaker:

I feel like that's why I love that's why I love YouTube bro like I started YouTube since we last talked

Speaker:

I've always wanted to be a Youtuber

Speaker:

I think I started doing YouTube when I was like I think everybody wants to want to be Youtubers

Speaker:

I started my YouTube channel in fifth grade

Speaker:

You record and you make money and then you do whatever you want

Speaker:

I started my YouTube channel in fifth grade and I quit and I started to back up again and I did vlog

Speaker:

I've been doing vlogs

Speaker:

I've been but the other thing I love doing is like I just give free education cause like now I actually have authority and I have a platform where people are gonna listen to me

Speaker:

Cause all the same stuff that I was trying to preach to my coworkers that they shitted on me for was like bro get out of here bro like what are you talking about bro

Speaker:

Now people not only listen to me but and watch my videos but they actually pay me to teach them to

Speaker:

It's insane

Speaker:

I'm so thankful like dude cause I used to try and teach people

Speaker:

I told you I would teach a few people

Speaker:

These people only listen to me cause they were younger than me anybody older than me any friends that I had older than me that I tried

Speaker:

She except for devo shout out devo

Speaker:

Even devo was skeptical but now devo is a little more on board

Speaker:

He was the most skeptical devo was the most skeptical cause he was older than me

Speaker:

But everybody else that was older than me they'll be like bro f out of here bro

Speaker:

Like they weren't trying here like they would clown me like they would laugh at me when I was trying to teach these principles that I stand so strongly on like charge a high price Mark yourself every day right all these things I always preach for barbers like you know don't worry about being booked out worry about how much money you're actually bringing home at the end of the day

Speaker:

All this stuff make sure you know how many clients are bringing make sure you know how much you're profiting

Speaker:

I would say this stuff in the barbershop all seven coworkers just start laughing like get a load this guy was there like a get a load of this guy

Speaker:

Yeah bro you're doing way too much bro I'm not gonna lie you're doing well cares much about making money

Speaker:

Like bro it is not that deep bro yeah you're doing way too much bro

Speaker:

Yeah but now it's come full circle on it's like yeah I have these YouTube videos that people actually watch actually pay attention to

Speaker:

That's like the greater purpose you know what I mean

Speaker:

Yeah oh this guy I'll even get people like Dming me and they'll be like yo I'm in school I'm watching your YouTube videos like I'm taking notes on the stuff you teach

Speaker:

Or people be like yo same fucking thing dude

Speaker:

You know how many people in high school like tell me like like same same people that would be like oh I your little videos man like why are you doing that

Speaker:

Like why are you recording those videos

Speaker:

Same people that would now say like dude I watch your videos are so inspirational dude

Speaker:

Like I really like what you're talking about

Speaker:

I think you should definitely come going circle

Speaker:

That's like yes insane

Speaker:

It's it's absolutely crazy

Speaker:

Well yeah it's it's nice to see like like damn bro like I guess it's cause I have like that credibility now but it's like now people actually listen to what I say

Speaker:

Exactly like I'm saying the same things that I was saying before but now people actually listen to me and they trust what I'm saying

Speaker:

Like I've been saying this stuff but now y'all wanna listen to me

Speaker:

It's funny it's funny yeah but that's the part I love about YouTube so it's like it's like Alex Ramos again I look up to him I got no like I'll glaze him

Speaker:

I look up to him like it's like the free value is huge and I love being the guy that gives free value and it gives you leverage in the info space

Speaker:

Free value is king cause people wanna charge money for all this information

Speaker:

I don't gate keep anything like everything's for free on my YouTube

Speaker:

People like sometimes in the sales process people be like oh bro what are you trying to sell me

Speaker:

I'll be like I mean through if I'm trying to sell you bro just go to the YouTube and take some notes like as very well tell them I'll be like go to my YouTube and take some notes bro and you can come back here

Speaker:

I mean even that even that it is of as a leverage for the sales like okay you can either come with me pay me and make this shit happen in one or two months or you can go to my YouTube watch

Speaker:

However hours longs try to figure out what the actual steps are

Speaker:

Yeah try to figure this out by yourself and it'll maybe take you one or two months and you fail and then it might take three or four five six months and think about her mosey how much free value he has

Speaker:

Yeah and like that's the difference between using her mosey as a free concept thing or using him as like the pay consultant that he is to other companies

Speaker:

Right

Speaker:

Like the reason why he's able to charge companies and he's able to partner up and all this and all that is because of 1 he's a he has the course they like the OG core seller the OG three right course seller

Speaker:

He did it the right way yeah the right way from the beginning and like that's why it's like you can either watch you can watch hundreds of hours worth of her mosey and probably figure out how to make everything work

Speaker:

Yeah or like you can pay him

Speaker:

Yeah and like that's the leverage of because it's either it's either you do it yourself or you know you skip the steps and actually people pay for implementation

Speaker:

So as yeah as you've grown in this past year both personally financially in the business world

Speaker:

There's UPS and downs right

Speaker:

There's UPS and downs and we love talking about the UPS but we also got to talk about the downs downs

Speaker:

I know I know you you brought up this uh this period of time in the summer where you thought like you're like this might not work out and stuff

Speaker:

Every day every day I was waking up I was praying I checked my counter there's no calls

Speaker:

I'm like bro what am I gonna do with my life today

Speaker:

Um yeah but yeah continue I I don't the question what what would be what would you say would be like the biggest mistake or kind of like a setback lesson in this past year

Speaker:

Oh there's a lot lot of lessons in the last year

Speaker:

First lesson is obviously I everyone gets comfortable dude it's like you know you're not supposed to have the feeling of I made it but it's really hard to fight

Speaker:

Oh yeah no sir every time you do a big accomplishment your brain starts to turn off your brain starts feeling I made it I made it I made it um so be like yeah I made it you know moved out here

Speaker:

And I was kind of loafing for like three months

Speaker:

Like I was not really trying

Speaker:

It was just wake up go to the gym yeah hang out with friends do my haircuts and that's it

Speaker:

And then I would jump on these calls with the with the with the clients with the students that I had

Speaker:

And I would help them but was I really putting anything into the my my my online education business uh for like marketing

Speaker:

No but I was like why am I 3 k a month

Speaker:

Like you know what I mean

Speaker:

So I was like loafing there

Speaker:

Oh a lot of things trying to hold on to like um trying to hold on to like a lot of old people

Speaker:

To be honest like dude I realize like at the end of the day is decisions right and a lot of people cause when you move out like I moved out

Speaker:

I stopped talking to a lot of people right um especially like going to college

Speaker:

Yeah like I just naturally stopped seeing them

Speaker:

But it's like no these people that you don't really see as often

Speaker:

You don't dislike them you don't have like a something against them

Speaker:

But at the end of the day like you are who you surround yourself with and some people make good decisions some people make bad decisions some people go for making good decisions to making bad decisions

Speaker:

But the way I see is like okay I wanna make good decisions

Speaker:

I'm around people that make good decisions

Speaker:

I don't really wanna be around people that make bad decisions

Speaker:

I thought I could be the guy that hangs around everybody that makes bad decisions and still make good decisions of myself

Speaker:

That's just not how it works that's just not how it works right um you wanna make better decisions stop hanging around people that make bad decisions cause then people be like well I'll be the one that's different

Speaker:

But no yeah bro even even if you can even if you can have like this self restraint of being around people that make bad decisions and you not make them yourself like why would you want to be around those people in the first place exactly like okay why would I want to be around these

Speaker:

People are always constantly choosing to make bad decisions on a day to day basis

Speaker:

Like you you can you can choose to hang around like your friends like your old buddies whatever like to drink smoke party all this and you can be around and you can not drink and smoke and that's great but I just thought it doesn't hit the same

Speaker:

It's just like you feel like an imposter like what am I

Speaker:

You feel like an imposter in like the best way possible cause like what am I doing here

Speaker:

I'm not this is not fun I don't wanna be doing this I don't wanna surround myself with like yeah but do this like if you like what am I doing here

Speaker:

Yeah you eventually kind of drift away and that's kind of how things work

Speaker:

You know you go through periods of time where you go from one friend group to the other one and then this kind of that only chapter where you're with no one

Speaker:

Yeah just building yourself

Speaker:

Yeah the other thing I definitely did was get in my own head too much

Speaker:

You move out to Canada and it's like I was always staying in that apartment

Speaker:

Every day I wake up and like I would just go to the gym come back and kind of just rot

Speaker:

Like I wouldn't do anything right

Speaker:

I'll just be sitting there and be like okay business is so bad

Speaker:

And I got in my own head

Speaker:

I wouldn't say I was depressed or anything but I was definitely in my own head or like every day I'm waking up boom y'all not make the money I wanna make businesses and going well the doubt and um dude it was bad it was bad but it's like uh you can't let that get to you to be honest

Speaker:

You know I mean just can't let it get to you

Speaker:

I mean I think that it's okay to think thoughts is just not okay to act on your thoughts exact right

Speaker:

I have to push it to the side and be like okay well yeah yeah I'm still gonna show up

Speaker:

Like okay like I feel this way that's great

Speaker:

But like you gotta you gotta do what you gotta do

Speaker:

Yeah despite of how you feel thinking you made it is a big one

Speaker:

Um cause you can't you can't ever think you made it

Speaker:

Yeah cause 30K is a lot of money right is 30K is a lot of money but we're not gonna do that this month

Speaker:

It's all be straight up like we're not we're not on face to do that again

Speaker:

And even if you don't whether you don't or you do well that's the other thing

Speaker:

It's like okay the only part I have to be critical on myself as was honestly when I got the car it was just too much dopamine

Speaker:

I was driving it every single day

Speaker:

I was like yo dad I'm about to be outside in five minutes let's go drive yo dad let's go let's go drive bro I know a road let's go launch the car let's go drifting like every day for like two weeks

Speaker:

So the business was kind of second and god was second too

Speaker:

That was the other thing right which was bad

Speaker:

I was like okay I wake up first thing I wanna do is go drive the car

Speaker:

Oh wait I forgot to pray seriously like that's how it was yeah I'm still not even dude is still bad like I have to get back to it

Speaker:

So it's like like you said but um but yeah what were you saying

Speaker:

I kind of interrupted bro cuz I was like that's a good point

Speaker:

No it's it's like um fuck I forgot but it's priorities right

Speaker:

Priorities priorities and it's like like you said like priorities in every area

Speaker:

No one would be we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for god right

Speaker:

And I honestly feel like faith is one of the biggest things to be in life overall it's meaning life to be honest it's not the biggest thing one of the biggest things and like we said before high highs and lower highs and higher lows right

Speaker:

So like when you're at that peak dopamine hit you gotta you gotta have this self discipline to self accountability to kind of humble yourself

Speaker:

Like okay listen great that I made this great that I got the car great that I had to drive any goal but last month I was down on my ass

Speaker:

I couldn't couldn't put money in my tank like you gotta remember where you came from right because you can easily lose it

Speaker:

And I know this too is like that's very end

Speaker:

Yep and so I've Learned that lesson before definitely a year ago actually last November I would say was my peak and then my fall off right

Speaker:

So I'm very cautious not to let that happen again

Speaker:

Yeah because not even only on the whole like arrogant part but also like it messes with your head

Speaker:

You know like if you're too into all these metrics and stuff like you can become really depressed really easily

Speaker:

And you can let business become this thing that manipulates you

Speaker:

Because because I mean if you're not making the money that you want or if things are going wrong for whatever reason you respond emotionally potentially make the thing worse

Speaker:

Yeah you're just a failure

Speaker:

I still feel like it is it's like it is hard to talk to people my age and not feel like an imposter

Speaker:

Yeah it is

Speaker:

I remember me and some friends from the barbershop we went to like or we go to like a church group right of people our age

Speaker:

But I remember that was the biggest thing after being isolated in my room for so long all summer

Speaker:

I start going to the church group around people my age for the first time in Forever

Speaker:

Dude it just felt weird to have conversations with them like getting to know new people that are my age

Speaker:

I felt like I could not relate to them at all

Speaker:

And that was a big thing as I okay my whole life is business business business that still is right business and maybe family yeah right my parents my brothers my granny

Speaker:

Business is my whole life

Speaker:

It's like just talk to somebody that's not doing business or that's not any business oriented

Speaker:

It's like I don't know how to do it

Speaker:

It's kind of is is it it's like we're in our own little world

Speaker:

It almost feels like a waste of time

Speaker:

It does

Speaker:

And it was like we're in our own little world

Speaker:

It's like we understand and all these other people like outsiders that's kind of how it feels

Speaker:

Yeah it does you're in your own little bubble

Speaker:

Yeah and the other thing is like dude you do get freedom with moving out but luckily I never I never would say like it was a big it was a big issue

Speaker:

Like I know a lot of people when they get in college or they're on their own you wanna go partying and they go crazy

Speaker:

Yeah they want to go a bunch of different girls like they wanna be like staying out late

Speaker:

And it's like okay like I don't think it's bad to experiment that and see if that's what you're into

Speaker:

And if that's what you're into then fucking god bless you

Speaker:

But like like I I did have that itch of like man like all my friends are partying I can do whatever I want like nothing

Speaker:

I never go and I never had it to that extent which is like and it's like and it's like I experienced a little bit you know I went to a couple parties I went to this with my friends and all that but it's like it's just not but it's just not for me

Speaker:

Like it's not for me yeah

Speaker:

If I feel useless I feel so useless I'm like dude this is not what I should be doing

Speaker:

Yeah I am not doing what I said I was gonna do

Speaker:

I feel like I'm wasting my time here

Speaker:

My I don't feel good physically doing all any of this

Speaker:

So it's okay

Speaker:

I tried it it's not for me never again

Speaker:

So I much prefer having a headache over a business or over things solving problems

Speaker:

Yeah then having my head hurt because I'm hungover

Speaker:

Yeah you just can't be around the wrong people and that's other things

Speaker:

Like not caring what other people think of you is huge huge big setback

Speaker:

I cared too much about what other people thought and it prevented me from making the right decisions up until now

Speaker:

Like it took me way too long to drop out of college simply cause I was scared of what other people would think

Speaker:

It took me way too long to move barbershop cause I was scared of what other people would think

Speaker:

Right I should have gotten out of that shop a long time ago cause I just couldn't grow any more there

Speaker:

But I was too scared right

Speaker:

I was too scared to actually promote my coaching business because what if people called me a scammer and a course seller

Speaker:

Right so it's like fear of what other people think is huge yeah fear what other people

Speaker:

What if I'm scared I'm too scared to raise my haircut prices cause people are gonna think I'm charged too much if I scam people

Speaker:

Yeah right that's I'm being getting called a scammer so it's like a hundred you're a scammer

Speaker:

Yeah I feel like if you're not getting any kind of criticism you're probably not doing something right yeah hundred percent it comes with everything so I'm just everything I feel like that's that but let's just say in the case that tomorrow some kind of like weird apocalypse happened everything wiped out your whole bank account gets wiped out the program gets wiped out you forget how to cut hair dang haha it's over what would be the skill or the kind of mindset that you would wish to hold on to to rebuild everything again

Speaker:

That's a good question

Speaker:

That's a good question so like if I had to pick one skill I rebuild from nothing

Speaker:

Have you watched the show um or anything is like Undercover Millionaire

Speaker:

I think that's what it was called Undercover Millionaire

Speaker:

Think kind of like that like starting from down zero dropped in the middle of like a weird location using a new skill

Speaker:

Yeah what would be what would be what would be a skill that you hold on to to build everything back up again

Speaker:

Sales sales yeah sales has to be sales sales sales are marketing

Speaker:

Like why sales are marketing

Speaker:

Do lately I've been I've been having to close some deals for my own for my own barber education business like I don't really have like I have an appointment center but I'm the closer right one of my close friends I've known for a long time

Speaker:

He does like sales like he went from I think like some I forget what other type of sales but now he does like online sales right like virtual sales

Speaker:

So I've been learning a lot from him and like sales is just such a great skill

Speaker:

Like I feel like I've got better at talking since last podcast

Speaker:

I've gotten better social skills

Speaker:

Um sales teaches you how to just talk to people and how to actually understand people how to speak clearly and be understood yeah and also how to understand other people

Speaker:

And I know her Mosey says that too like sales is huge

Speaker:

Yeah cause like at the end of the day if you're not willing to get out there and put your reputation or comfort on the line to close some deals for your own business so you can get paid

Speaker:

Yeah like you don't believe in yourself to be honest

Speaker:

Yeah that thing that is a lot and I think the world revolves around sales and marketing

Speaker:

I mean everything you can you sell yourself you sell products you sell services yeah and even like cutting hair sales

Speaker:

Right it's like like in the videos what I teach my teacher like the people that work with a teacher students is like you're selling the haircut

Speaker:

And that's why when you do these videos you know someone comes in you got sales problem problem solving obviously

Speaker:

But that's why I really focus on like okay somebody comes in you need to get them to talk about a problem that they have

Speaker:

My hair um I have curly hair but it gets really frizzy

Speaker:

Yeah so how do you do this

Speaker:

In a way you're selling it you'd be like got you man

Speaker:

So what I'm gonna do for you is I'm gonna add some leave in conditioner to your hair and get those nice luscious curls yeah so you can be way more confident bro

Speaker:

And you know from 1 to 10 start pulling so many girls right like you're selling this idea of your service right yeah so I even apply that there so it's like in all areas yeah in all areas you're constantly selling something that's a sale

Speaker:

Yeah great skill

Speaker:

I think that would be I have this question that I asked last time

Speaker:

Um I think I remember I think I remember your answer and I wanna know if the answer changed or not

Speaker:

I asked you what is your definition of success

Speaker:

Dude I remember that question ah definition of success it's funny cause you said the same thing

Speaker:

Hmm my definition of success yeah exactly I gotta think about it again cause I don't remember what I said

Speaker:

Yeah and should I put the clip in

Speaker:

This is exactly what you did

Speaker:

This is crazy cause I have to think about it again

Speaker:

Yeah definition of success success just has to be being able to to to get what you want out of your life

Speaker:

Right like if you feel like you're not able to get what you want out of life because you know other people holding you back or whatever circumstances

Speaker:

Like to me success is being able to wake up and do what you wanna do um without having anything holding you back

Speaker:

Whether it's like financial whether it's other people that you feel like you can't do what you wanna do because other people are holding you back or yourself is holding you back

Speaker:

Like that's what I really have think success is now really just being able to do whatever you want alright be able to do whatever you want

Speaker:

And ideally you know when you do whatever you want you actually leave some good in the world and you impact other people

Speaker:

Yeah yeah yeah yeah I think that's success

Speaker:

I think everybody go should be to try to leave the world a little bit better than how they found it

Speaker:

Yeah and just being able to impact other people

Speaker:

To be honest I think that should be I should be success but really I think on a on a crazy level like success is really being able to have like the free will to do what you want

Speaker:

And then please when you have the free will to do what you want do good

Speaker:

Right you could always do that

Speaker:

Yeah even when it might not seem like the best song

Speaker:

Yeah just follow follow Christ man as best you can

Speaker:

To be honest like you know make make the good decisions trying to live like him

Speaker:

That's what I want but it is hard for all of us

Speaker:

But yeah that would be a success that would be ideal but really if I had to define it in my words dude it's gotta be just being able to do whatever you want

Speaker:

Can you do whatever you want

Speaker:

Yeah cause I would say before I like now some point success is like okay you know I wanna go out to eat but I can't cause I don't have the money

Speaker:

Or I wanna be a barber but I can't because I feel like I'm too scared that my parents are gonna tell me I can't right

Speaker:

Or I wanna raise my haircut prices like I wanna charge more but I can't because what if my coworkers make fun of me

Speaker:

Yeah but a successful person or somebody that has attained success they're able to make those decisions and do what they wanna do and get what they want out of life without any limitations right

Speaker:

Okay you don't have the money you go find the money right yeah stuff like that

Speaker:

Now yeah I think that makes sense solid

Speaker:

I feel like that was solid I think that's I think that's pretty solid

Speaker:

Final question before we wrap up you have a mic in front of you we have social media we have the internet

Speaker:

Yeah you had one message that you could send out to our generation now

Speaker:

What would it be

Speaker:

Hmm I guess like you're you're capable of way more than you think

Speaker:

Terms of just like you know people always have like these big goals or they see a lot happening online cause it's the age of online so like people always see this stuff

Speaker:

A lot of people like myself I used to never believe that certain things are possible right I used to never believe that I'd be able to be in the position I'm in now but anything is possible right especially if you put god first

Speaker:

Please put god first especially our generation right and like don't just put god first just to do it like just to be like I'm gonna put god first but find out why you're doing it like realize

Speaker:

Okay no Jesus died for us the greatest act of love and we should love him the same way we love our parents our family or even a greater level

Speaker:

And based off that love we should make decisions every single day out of that love for him

Speaker:

Um and part of that comes with the part of that comes just doing whatever you know you feel like you're capable of

Speaker:

And if you're serving gods are trying to become like the best you know follower of Christ you can be

Speaker:

You're gonna do great things in life you're gonna impact a lot of people you're gonna become a great person right and whatever area that's in like you don't have to be you know big in business you don't have to be really rich you know you could be you know making no money but still serving other people

Speaker:

Right um but a lot of people would think oh that's not me I can't be that person

Speaker:

That's not me but really you are capable of becoming whoever you wanna be

Speaker:

Does that make sense
