You've worked hard, you've managed your money, maybe even increased your
Ralph:income, but then deep down, do you still feel this nagging financial stress?
Ralph:What if the answer isn't just more money, but something even far more liberating?
Ralph:Stick with me today because I'm gonna share exactly how
Ralph:to find that real freedom.
Ralph:Hey, and welcome back to your Daily Financially Confident Christian.
Ralph:I'm Ralph, and we continue our journey answering that big question, how can I
Ralph:become a financially confident Christian?
Ralph:Now, if you join me yesterday, you know, we wrapped up a powerful series
Ralph:on dealing with the stress of money worries, and if there was 30 episodes
Ralph:in that series, I encourage if you missed any of 'em, you can go back and
Ralph:check them out right on our website.
Ralph:But today I'm excited to launch a new series and this one we're
Ralph:calling Beyond the Budget.
Ralph:Finding financial freedom through intentional living.
Ralph:We're gonna talk about a lot of intentional living discussions.
Ralph:And today's core question is, this is more money, really the
Ralph:answer to my financial stress.
Ralph:Now, maybe you've been there, you get that raise and there's
Ralph:this, you know, moment of relief.
Ralph:You're like, go, wow, this is fantastic.
Ralph:I, I got that raise.
Ralph:Now, things aren't gonna seem so tight and, and for a little while it
Ralph:stays like that, but then over time, expenses start to creep up again.
Ralph:And those bills start to feel stressful again, and you chase more income, but the
Ralph:peace doesn't last because there's this belief that somehow income equals peace.
Ralph:And that's a very common belief.
Ralph:The problem is, it's so disappointing when it doesn't deliver.
Ralph:'cause what it really does, it just leaves you chasing endlessly and endlessly.
Ralph:You're, you're just never content.
Ralph:You're never free.
Ralph:And that very pursuit.
Ralph:That very pursuit becomes its own source of stress.
Ralph:I remember, I, I fell into this trap myself.
Ralph:I'll never forget it.
Ralph:I decided that I wanted to buy a really expensive watch
Ralph:'cause I had to have this watch.
Ralph:My business had been doing well, it had groan.
Ralph:And, and I saw this watch as a sign that I had arrived and my
Ralph:wife and I and the two boys, we decided we're gonna go to the mall.
Ralph:And we went to this fancy jewelry store.
Ralph:And I'm looking at the counter, man.
Ralph:I'm telling you, I'm, I'm all puffed up.
Ralph:I'm feeling great about myself.
Ralph:And I picked out the one I wanted and I said, oh, this is, this is so beautiful.
Ralph:It's a beautiful watch.
Ralph:And the lady behind the counter, you know, she sized it up for me and checked out.
Ralph:And I don't even wanna tell you what I spent, 'cause it was ridiculous.
Ralph:But I'm walking down the mall and I'm kind of putting on this little crazy
Ralph:strut, and you look at me, look at me.
Ralph:I got home and oh look, a day or two later, guess what?
Ralph:I just felt empty again, the reason I felt empty, was because
Ralph:it was all about what others think.
Ralph:See, here's the thing.
Ralph:Income is important.
Ralph:Yes, it is important.
Ralph:The Bible teaches something far more important and far more valuable.
Ralph:It teaches contentment.
Ralph:And the thing you've gotta understand is what I don't want you
Ralph:to hear today, we start this new series about intentional living.
Ralph:You need to understand that contentment doesn't come from possessions.
Ralph:Let's get into the word.
Ralph:Let's look at the book of Luke, chapter 12, verse 15.
Ralph:It says this, watch out.
Ralph:Hey, when a verse starts, watch out.
Ralph:Guess what?
Ralph:Watch out.
Ralph:Watch out.
Ralph:Be on your guard against all kinds of greed.
Ralph:Life does not consist in an abundance of possessions, and I wish I had read that
Ralph:before I went and bought that watch.
Ralph:And here's another truth, mom.
Ralph:Peace isn't about your income size, it's just not.
Ralph:I've met some very wealthy people who are definitely not at peace, and I've
Ralph:met some people who are just barely making it, who have a level of peace
Ralph:that I could only hope to get to.
Ralph:Peace isn't about your income size, it's about how you manage,
Ralph:and more importantly, what you think about what you have.
Ralph:See, here's the thing.
Ralph:You gotta ask yourself if your desires are always growing.
Ralph:When your income grows, you're always gonna feel stretched.
Ralph:You're just always gonna feel stretched.
Ralph:It wouldn't matter how much income you have because the
Ralph:desire keeps growing with it.
Ralph:See, God calls us to something completely different.
Ralph:God calls us to steward what we have with purpose.
Ralph:With purpose, and see true peace.
Ralph:It's my personal view today, what I wanna share.
Ralph:True peace comes from intentional living, not just more money.
Ralph:So now you're saying, Ralph, what can we do?
Ralph:Is, is, if more money isn't the answer.
Ralph:And Ralph, I'm confused.
Ralph:What's the answer?
Ralph:Kind of already alluded to it, but I truly believe the single solution
Ralph:is to embrace intentional living.
Ralph:Now you're gonna say, Ralph, what does that mean?
Ralph:Well, let me tell you right now, I want you to embrace intentional living.
Ralph:I want you to align your spending.
Ralph:I want you to align your savings, and I want you to align your giving.
Ralph:Align those with your values, align those with your purpose, and align
Ralph:those with a level of contentment.
Ralph:You gotta choose how money serve you and how it serves God instead of letting
Ralph:culture dictate your financial life.
Ralph:Hey, when I bought that watch, that's what I was doing.
Ralph:I was letting culture dictate my financial life.
Ralph:I made this ridiculously dumb decision.
Ralph:I ended up selling the watch a few months later, but I had
Ralph:to make a conscious decision.
Ralph:I had to be intentional.
Ralph:I had to choose how money serves me.
Ralph:Instead of letting culture just dictate it.
Ralph:So I've got your one action item for today.
Ralph:I want you to start by reflecting on that.
Ralph:Why?
Ralph:Because that's where it needs to start.
Ralph:Ask yourself this very difficult soul searching question,
Ralph:why do I want more money?
Ralph:And that's not an easy question to ask or an easy answer to answer either.
Ralph:Why do I want more money?
Ralph:And be honest with yourself.
Ralph:Is it for security?
Ralph:I just don't wanna worry about money anymore.
Ralph:Is it so you can give more?
Ralph:I wanna be more charitable.
Ralph:Maybe it's not.
Ralph:Maybe it's for comparison.
Ralph:Hey, that's what I was doing is about, I wanna walk through the mall, look
Ralph:at this guy, look at this watch.
Ralph:I wanted everybody to say, look at that watch.
Ralph:That's fantastic.
Ralph:Or maybe it's just consumption.
Ralph:And I'm not telling you to judge.
Ralph:I'm not judging you.
Ralph:Listen, I'm not judging you right now.
Ralph:Reflect on your why.
Ralph:Ask, why do you want more money?
Ralph:It's not about judgment.
Ralph:It's about awareness.
Ralph:The second step to this, I want you to identify one unintentional expense.
Ralph:I want you to look at your weak spending.
Ralph:Hopefully you're still tracking that spending.
Ralph:If you, if you're not tracking 'em, encourage you to do it, but look at
Ralph:your weak spending and find one habit or item that doesn't match your values.
Ralph:A friend of mine, mark once told me, he said, Ralph, I listened to your
Ralph:show and it punched me in the gut.
Ralph:I guess that was a good thing.
Ralph:He sort of, he said, Rob, you know, when I listen to you sometimes
Ralph:it, it's exactly what I need.
Ralph:He said, punch in the gut.
Ralph:' cause what Mark was saying is it's that habit or that item
Ralph:that doesn't match his values.
Ralph:These could be things like impulse buys or maybe just convenience cost,
Ralph:or as I was doing those status driven purchases at your spending, find
Ralph:that who's one, maybe there's several that just don't match your values.
Ralph:Then to be intentional, the next step is to make a conscious choice for you.
Ralph:Maybe that's decide to either eliminate it for a week.
Ralph:Maybe you say, listen, this is one of those status driven purchases.
Ralph:I don't need to go to Starbucks.
Ralph:I don't need to go wherever you're going.
Ralph:I'm not picking on Starbucks, but maybe you eliminate it for a week, or maybe for
Ralph:you it's that impulse buying, so maybe you need to just reduce it significantly.
Ralph:Maybe you put in that pause that I talk about on the show.
Ralph:Before I buy something, I'm gonna put it in the cart and let it sort of
Ralph:stew out there, like in the crockpot.
Ralph:Or maybe the decision is, listen, I'm gonna redirect it all altogether.
Ralph:I'm gonna redirect it to a better goal.
Ralph:So think about your why, look at your spending, and be intentional.
Ralph:Make that conscious choice and decide what you're gonna do with it.
Ralph:Eliminate it, reduce it, or just redirect it all together.
Ralph:And I wanna tell you why this helps, because here's how it helps, it stops
Ralph:that passive drift towards stress.
Ralph:Because here's what I've, here's what I've observed in my own life.
Ralph:This is Ralph talking.
Ralph:Now, as my income increases, the stress starts to increase too, because there's
Ralph:more of an expectation that I need more.
Ralph:But this redirect, it redirects your energy to that intentional piece.
Ralph:You're, you're saying to yourself, here are my values, here are my wise.
Ralph:Here's why I choose.
Ralph:Here's what I choose to do with my money.
Ralph:And in the end, a big hairy takeaway from this is you prove that
Ralph:peace doesn't require more money.
Ralph:It just doesn't.
Ralph:That's the beautiful answer to this.
Ralph:Your peace doesn't require more money.
Ralph:It just requires a better alignment with your God given purpose.
Ralph:Well, let's pray together now.
Ralph:Father, we just thank you for being our provider.
Ralph:And Lord, we often believe that more money is the answer to stress,
Ralph:It's gonna solve all our problems.
Ralph:Lord, help us see through that myth.
Ralph:Help us to live intentionally.
Ralph:Lord, help us to align our money with your purposes and, and really our 'core why's'.
Ralph:Help us to seek contentment, Lord, and help us to find clarity in these
Ralph:intentional financial decisions.
Ralph:And we ask this with confidence.
Ralph:In Jesus' name, Amen.
Ralph:Listen.
Ralph:Financial peace isn't just about your paycheck size, it's just not.
Ralph:I hope you trust me on that.
Ralph:It's about how intentionally you live.
Ralph:See, that's what this whole next 30 days is gonna be about,
Ralph:how to intentionally live.
Ralph:So I just wanna encourage you, take one small step, because
Ralph:you're moving towards freedom.
