Speaker BNow let's get this show started with our host, Eric G. And John Dudley.
Speaker AWelcome to the around the House show.
Speaker AYour trusted sews for home improvement information.
Speaker AJohnny, how we doing today, brother?
Speaker AGood to see you today.
Speaker CYeah, I'm good, man.
Speaker CHow you doing?
Speaker AGood, man.
Speaker AExcited.
Speaker AIt's.
Speaker AIt's the weekend after Turkey Day.
Speaker AWe're all fat and happy, feeling good.
Speaker AYou're like, oh, it's Thanksgiving because you're in Colombia.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd I'm finally out of the mountains, so I'm not wearing four layers of clothes.
Speaker CI'm actually.
Speaker CIt's kind of hot today.
Speaker ANice, man.
Speaker AI love it.
Speaker AI love it.
Speaker ANow that we've kind of all got our.
Speaker AOur bit of family out of our hair, and it's the holidays and we're full on into it, I thought, let's talk about the Black Friday deals that were happening over the weekend here.
Speaker AThat, and the hard part with this is I can't just say, hey, come down to my local business, because people don't care what's going on in Portland when you're in Long Island, New York, or Hawaii or whoever else is catching us on the radio or podcast.
Speaker ASo I figured almost everybody's got Amazon, so if you want to find it at your local store, feel free.
Speaker ABut I thought, let's grab it on Amazon and come up with our top 10 buys.
Speaker ABecause I did a bunch of digging here to see what I could find on Amazon, and these are the best deals I could find out there.
Speaker AMaybe you can buy something for dear old dad or mom or your brother or sister or heck, you're the only one doing it.
Speaker ABuy something nice for yourself.
Speaker CEither way, that dive on Amazon is a deep rabbit hole, my friend.
Speaker AOh, my gosh.
Speaker AI was doomed scrolling for hours on this.
Speaker AGod.
Speaker AOh, that's cool.
Speaker AHow do I cut it down to 10?
Speaker AFind out here.
Speaker AWe'll find out.
Speaker ASo let's dive in, brother.
Speaker AThe first one here that I saw was a really good deal, and this is where you can get stuff.
Speaker AThere's a lot of products out there.
Speaker AAnd, you know, this too.
Speaker ABut there's a lot of products out there with a minimum advertised price that they can say, that's, hey, we.
Speaker AThat's why when you go around the stores and you're looking at something, you're like, why is it always $99?
Speaker AIt's because they can't sell it any less than their dealer agreement.
Speaker AThat's.
Speaker AThat's the bottom price.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AWith appliances, you're like, everything's the same.
Speaker AThat's because they sell it that way.
Speaker ABut this is that time of year.
Speaker AWe can save some money.
Speaker ASo on Amazon, I found these.
Speaker ALutron Diva smart dimmer switch.
Speaker AAnd this is the Casita lighting.
Speaker AIt's the hub.
Speaker AThis is the perfect smart home starter pack for people.
Speaker AAnd what I like about it is it works pretty much just about in any house.
Speaker AAnd the other thing I like about it, too, is you can save some money, too.
Speaker AAnd so Lutron, to me, for the DIY homeowner grade, is like the perfect kind of starting point because it's really simple.
Speaker AOnce you wired up like a regular switch, now you can sit there and I like it for exterior lights, Johnny.
Speaker ASo let's say you got a porch light and you're tired of turning off and on, or you don't want to mess with it, or you leave it on all night and you're like, oh, man, I wanted to turn that off again.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AYou want to save some money, you punch in on the settings on it and go, I want this to turn off a half hour after sunrise or Turn on and 45 minutes before sunset, whatever.
Speaker AYou set it, and it automatically knows where it is.
Speaker AIt's smart.
Speaker AYou can grab your phone, and what's cool is you can turn that off and on from your phone anywhere in the world.
Speaker ASo it's cool.
Speaker CSo nice.
Speaker AAnd for 99 bucks, it gets you the switch.
Speaker AIt gets you the.
Speaker ATheir little hub that runs all the rest of them in the house.
Speaker ASo it's a great starter deal.
Speaker AAnd instead of 125 bucks, it's 99.95.
Speaker ASo that's a pretty good deal there.
Speaker CIt's like a cool parent gift, right?
Speaker CIt's cool for anybody, but it's like a thing where, like, your parents would be, whoa.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker CReally?
Speaker CHoly crap.
Speaker CI can actually turn the stupid outdoor light off automatically.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker AIt's crazy.
Speaker AAnd so it's.
Speaker AFor me, it was awesome because I could sit there and change things when I'm traveling.
Speaker AFor instance, I can look on and turn the light on, turn the light off.
Speaker AAnd if you do it inside.
Speaker AHere's the fun part.
Speaker AIf you want to mess with the kids when they're in the living room watching tv.
Speaker AAnd your other part in the house and they're watching some Stephen King novel, you could flicker the lights really cool.
Speaker CGet all ghosty on them.
Speaker COh, yeah.
Speaker AYou can sit there and just boom.
Speaker CAnd they're terrible, man.
Speaker CReally fun.
Speaker AYou can really mess with them.
Speaker AMess with them a lot, which is fun.
Speaker CSo, yeah, everybody needs a little childhood trauma.
Speaker CCome on.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AGot nothing to complain about if you don't have any trauma there.
Speaker ASo let's have some fun with it.
Speaker ASo let's have some fun.
Speaker AAnd that's.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker ATo me, it's fun to play around with that stuff.
Speaker AYou're just having fun with them and who cares?
Speaker CSo they'll be fine.
Speaker AYeah, they'll be fine.
Speaker ABuilds them stronger at that point.
Speaker ANow the next one here, I thought is a deal for a starter toolkit.
Speaker AAnd Amazon's got this one locked in Craftsman V20 cordless drill driver kit, half inch battery charger included.
Speaker A69 bucks.
Speaker CYeah, dude, I saw that one on the list.
Speaker CI was like, what?
Speaker C20 volt and half inch?
Speaker CLike, it's.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CFor 69 bucks.
Speaker AYeah, yeah, it's cool.
Speaker AWhat I like about that is that one, it saves you some serious money.
Speaker ATwo, it's Craftsman, which if you take it out of the case, it's just DeWalt on the inside.
Speaker AIt's made in the same factory.
Speaker CIs.
Speaker CI'm gonna date myself a little bit, but I didn't.
Speaker CCraftsman always have like lifetime guarantees on all their tools.
Speaker CSo like wrenches and stuff.
Speaker CI remember that.
Speaker AStuff.
Speaker AYeah, so pliers, all that stuff.
Speaker ABack in the day when there were Sears stores around, there might be a one around, but yeah, they sold that whole brand to Stanley Black and Decker.
Speaker COkay.
Speaker ASo Stanley Black and Decker, which is the parent company for DeWalt, it's now Craftsman, all that kind of stuff.
Speaker CLike I said date myself a little bit.
Speaker AYou are.
Speaker ABut that's okay.
Speaker AWe all.
Speaker CCraftsman tool set with my Sears card in 1988.
Speaker CEric.
Speaker COkay.
Speaker CSo I could work on my 74 Blazer.
Speaker ANice.
Speaker AMinus 77.
Speaker AI know.
Speaker ALike, that is.
Speaker AI know what's working on those.
Speaker CYou know, you need tools.
Speaker CA lot of them.
Speaker AYeah, a lot of them.
Speaker ABut really, come on.
Speaker AFor 69 bucks, that's.
Speaker AIt's regular 99.
Speaker AAnd I thought it was a good deal at 99, but it comes with a, you know, a 2amp hour battery.
Speaker ASo it's that battery is worth more than 69 bucks if you jump on the website.
Speaker CSo that tells you that's a great deal.
Speaker AAnd I like that.
Speaker ASo that's a cool one right there.
Speaker ABefore we go out to break, I thought we'd jump on one more here.
Speaker AIt's another Craftsman.
Speaker AAnd by the way, nobody's paying me to be doing these.
Speaker AThis is not sponsored stuff.
Speaker AThis is stuff that I go through and went, that's a good deal.
Speaker ASo Craftsman oscillating tool.
Speaker ASo it's your basic oscillating tool.
Speaker AThis is a plug in one, but it's 3amp, includes a universal tool free accessory system, blade, sandpaper, and tool bag.
Speaker ANow it's corded, but it's 41% off at 70 bucks.
Speaker ASo 69.99.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AAnd that's.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CSome of those handy tools you just always need and you never knew you needed it for the 17 things you find to do with it.
Speaker ADude, seriously.
Speaker AAnd it's corded.
Speaker AAnd I'm not the biggest corded fan, but if you're on a budget or if you're just doing stuff around the house, who cares?
Speaker ABut really, 41% off for that.
Speaker AAnd it comes with the blades and the sandpaper and all that stuff.
Speaker AThat is basic DIY toolkit.
Speaker AFrom cutting off a bolt to sanding, to scraping, they make a blade for everything.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AIt's my favorite demo tool tool, by the way.
Speaker CReally?
Speaker AHere's why.
Speaker AIf I want to cut apart dynamite excavator.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AThat works well too.
Speaker ABut really, when you're sitting there and you want to just cut something apart without ruining the wood, you want to just cut the nails right off.
Speaker APut a metal blade in there, you go right between there.
Speaker ASaws all get the job done if you're throwing the wood away.
Speaker ABut if you want to be a little more surgical versus a little more sledgehammer esque, you can really cut stuff off quick.
Speaker CNice.
Speaker ANow, I saw a hack that was a little shocking the other day that I don't know if I could do it, but I'm gonna try it on mine.
Speaker AThey come out of the tool and they offset, right?
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AThey've got a little bit of a L shape and command.
Speaker AGuy put two blades next to each other so there's a half inch between them.
Speaker AHe reversed one and then he was cutting out drywall to put electrical in the wall.
Speaker AWall.
Speaker CAh, nice.
Speaker AAnd on the drywall.
Speaker AAnd I'm like, that's kind of trick.
Speaker AI don't know if that worked, but I like It.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CSlick idea.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AI was like, all right, I see what you're doing.
Speaker AThat's trick.
Speaker AHere comes my electrician joke.
Speaker ARight where you go.
Speaker AYeah, that's too fast and probably too clean.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CHow I can't justify my cost when I can do it that easy.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AIt's funny.
Speaker AI saw on one of the electricians Instagram sites they had a new tool that was.
Speaker ACame out by my.
Speaker ABy Milwaukee.
Speaker AAnd it was a push broom for electricians.
Speaker AAnd I just thought that was freaking hilarious.
Speaker CNice.
Speaker AInsert construction jokes here.
Speaker AAll right, John.
Speaker AAnd we come back.
Speaker AI got some really cool ones here and I wanted to talk as well here about some projects or some products that we can give to the relatives.
Speaker AMaybe what we can give and maybe what we can't give.
Speaker AThat might be a bad idea.
Speaker ALet's talk about that.
Speaker AWhen around the House returns, don't change that dial.
Speaker BTo find out more information, head to aroundthehouse online dot com.
Speaker BDon't change that dial around the House.
Speaker BWe'll be right back after these important messages.
Speaker AWelcome back to the around the House show, your trusted source for home improvement information.
Speaker AThanks for joining us today, guys.
Speaker AGuess what?
Speaker AWe've been talking holidays here, but if you want to find out more about us, head over to aroundthehouse online.com and we're gonna have this list up here as well on the website.
Speaker AWe should have it up there by the time you hear this.
Speaker AAnd here's one other disclaimer I want to put in here.
Speaker ASome of these items could be totally sold out by the time you hear this, especially on the radio.
Speaker AThis stuff can air over 24 hours.
Speaker ASo these sales, they could be gone.
Speaker AThey could be there.
Speaker AI have no control over that.
Speaker ASo if this deal is gone on Amazon, take a look, it might come up.
Speaker AWe'll have the links there.
Speaker ABut it's just hard to say.
Speaker ASome of these things are so good, they could sell a thousand truckloads and they had 900 and all of a sudden now they're out.
Speaker ASo I want to blame it on you.
Speaker AYou never know.
Speaker ASo you never know.
Speaker ABut if anything, head down to your local home improvement store, your independent contractor store down there, wherever you buy your stuff and take a look and they what they got on the shelf if it's not on Amazon because quite frankly prefer you give those guys the business anyway.
Speaker ASo maybe this can inspire you on the list.
Speaker AThe next one here, man.
Speaker AJohnny.
Speaker AThis is probably one of my favorite buys.
Speaker AAnd I tell you what, I like cool, fun tools.
Speaker AAnd this is a Good one.
Speaker ABora speed horse sawhorses.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CNice.
Speaker AThese things are so tough.
Speaker AI've got these here.
Speaker AI'm pretty hard on sawhorses.
Speaker AYou could set it up single handedly, 1.6 seconds and they hold 1800 pounds.
Speaker CWow.
Speaker AAnd they fold up super easy.
Speaker AYou can make.
Speaker AAnd they've got adjustable heights so you can really do some stuff with it.
Speaker AIt makes it super easy to work with.
Speaker AI absolutely love these line.
Speaker AI think I bought them 79 or 80 bucks a piece at Home Depot.
Speaker AThey have a two pack for 107.33.
Speaker CNice.
Speaker AAnd guys, when you want to find this stuff, head over to aroundthehouse online dot com.
Speaker AWe'll have the list up here on the website so you can find it and I'll put a link up on social media as well.
Speaker ABut 107, 33, 37% off regular 170 bucks.
Speaker CThat's a killer deal considering how many I saw it in half a year.
Speaker AThat's like the Stanley.
Speaker C90%.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThe bad part is once you cut those in half or cut enough of them, they just start to turn into yellow.
Speaker AYeah, they just turn into jello.
Speaker ASo absolute garbage.
Speaker AThese here, you'll know when you hit that heavy steel with that saw blade.
Speaker CYeah, this is a big difference.
Speaker ABig difference.
Speaker AIt will let you know, you'll go, oh yeah, that's what it is.
Speaker AThat's what it is.
Speaker AAnd let's see, let's go back to the list here.
Speaker AThat's one of my favorites right there.
Speaker AAnd when we're getting into things like this, depending on who this is for, that's a, that's actually a great gift there for family, for dad, mom, whoever out there is handy.
Speaker AThat is a good one.
Speaker ANow if we go to the next one on the list here, this is another good one.
Speaker AAnd I like this one because who doesn't like home security?
Speaker AAnd I think home security can be fun when you're dealing with this stuff.
Speaker AAnd this is an indoor camera, right?
Speaker AThis isn't the one like we'll talk about the other one here later.
Speaker ABut this one here I think is cool because what you can do with this is, it's an indoor camera.
Speaker ASo you could put it in inside, plug it in so you can plug it into your computer or wherever else or wifi.
Speaker AAnd this thing here will rock for you.
Speaker AAnd what I think is cool about this, it's cheap, 39.99.
Speaker AAnd this is for a 2K indoor security camera.
Speaker ABut the cool thing is you can steer it so you can pan tilt it two way.
Speaker AAudio, night vision, person tracking.
Speaker ASo I think what's cool for this.
Speaker AWhat did I do with mine?
Speaker AI had mine in my shop so I can see if anybody had gotten into my shop.
Speaker AI could zoom around with it.
Speaker ASo if somebody is poking around the tools, they weren't hiding.
Speaker AI mounted up the ceiling and then I could see everything that's going on.
Speaker AAnd for 40 bucks, really easy to work with and fast supports.
Speaker AApple HomeKit, Alexa, IFTT, all that good stuff.
Speaker ASo it is a super smart way to go cheap tracking of your tools.
Speaker AIf it's going in the garage, you could put it.
Speaker ABe careful, guys.
Speaker APrivacy concerns are always big.
Speaker ALet's be honest.
Speaker AWe don't want to be putting this any creepy places.
Speaker ABut if you've got grandma out in the living room and you're trying to keep an eye on her and you want to make sure, get her permission.
Speaker AAnd hey, let's put a camera in the living room.
Speaker AThat way you can talk to us, we can talk to you if you've got an issue.
Speaker AMight not be a bad way to go, but super, super easy to work with and easy to operate right off the app.
Speaker ASo again, super easy.
Speaker A40 bucks.
Speaker AI like it.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CNice.
Speaker CAnd who doesn't like getting a camera?
Speaker CCome on.
Speaker ACome on.
Speaker AThat's a fun one.
Speaker AThat's a fun one.
Speaker ABefore we go out here, I tell you what, Johnny, this is another one of those that, you know, you get get into these lists.
Speaker AAnd I tell you what, I really got stuck on this list because I just kept going down the list.
Speaker AThis one here, I can tell you what this is their other outdoor camera.
Speaker AAnd the thing that I liked about this is it has 4K night vision.
Speaker CWow.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AExcept when I've got people poking around my hot tub naked.
Speaker ALet's put it that way.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker ANot as cool.
Speaker CYeah, I apologize for that.
Speaker AWasn't you.
Speaker AActually, I'm not entirely sure who it was.
Speaker AWe'll leave it at that.
Speaker ABut it wasn't me and it was in my hot tub.
Speaker AIt's always interesting when you're on a vacation and you can see what's going on in your hot tub.
Speaker ABut anyway, a Cora 4 megapixel camera.
Speaker AIt's the hub, so it helps with that.
Speaker APro wi fi true color night vision security camera, outdoor.
Speaker AAnd all I'll say was the full moon was out last that night when I had that video camera running full moon.
Speaker AAnd this works really well.
Speaker AAnd it has notifications.
Speaker AYou can set it up 119 bucks.
Speaker ABut it is meant to go out in the weather, so it's a great way.
Speaker AIt has.
Speaker AAnd actually what alerted me was I had on my phone, I was sitting there and my phone, I had it in sleep mode and all of a sudden I was getting these push notifications saying person lingering.
Speaker CI said, I'm sorry, dude.
Speaker AYeah, the camera was just hanging around.
Speaker AIt was just doing its thing.
Speaker AAnd so we're sitting there going, hey, there's somebody standing around outside.
Speaker AThat was on the back of my shop where the, where that was.
Speaker ASo for me, somebody hanging around the back of my shop is who's trying to break in the glass door in the back, right?
Speaker AOh no, I'm four hours away from home.
Speaker ASo I'm, I'm out.
Speaker AAnd sure enough, yeah, there was somebody using my hot tub.
Speaker ABut this is a great way to do that.
Speaker AIf you want to keep track of stuff going outside.
Speaker AYou can watch animals, the deer, the elk, the raccoons, the mice, whatever you're trying to check out there.
Speaker AIt's really a smart way to go and I think it's a really good buy for what that is.
Speaker CAnd yeah, it's super cheap.
Speaker CAnd having those notifications is super cheap, handy and important as proven in your case.
Speaker AYeah, absolutely.
Speaker AAnd again, works through a homekit secure video.
Speaker AThere's a couple different ways you can do this, which I like.
Speaker ASo they make this camera with kind of two options if you go down.
Speaker AAnd it's just a really good way to go.
Speaker AI think it's one of those things that when you start looking at these expense.
Speaker AIt used to be very expensive to do this and now you could put a couple of these cameras around and it's super cheap and they've got a couple different configurations.
Speaker ASo make sure you look to make sure that you've got the right one for what you're doing.
Speaker ABut I tell you what, they've got wifi versions and so then they've got the poie support as well.
Speaker ASo you can go a couple different ways with it.
Speaker ABut I tell you what, it's a great gift and especially if you got kids moving out and you want to do some secure stuff.
Speaker AAnd I think it's first time homeowner, great stuff to have.
Speaker AAll right, Johnny, let's run out to break real quick.
Speaker AI have got some serious big savings here.
Speaker AWe're taking like hundreds of dollars off for pretty inexpensive stuff coming up which is going to be super cool.
Speaker AWe'll talk about that just as soon as around the house returns.
Speaker ADon't Change that dial.
Speaker AWelcome back to the around the House show, your trusted source for home improvement.
Speaker ABut I'm Eric G. Johnny Dudley and I are sitting here talking about some of our favorite things that we're finding here on a deep dive of Amazon for those Black Friday sales, holiday gifts, whatever you're looking for.
Speaker AIt's a great time to buy tools and things for around the house because sometimes that they just give these things out way cheaper than what you would normally see any time of the year.
Speaker AAnd before we get into the list, John, I do want to thank one special station on our radio network work because this is our Last weekend on AM860 the answer Portland, our hometown station here in Portland, K Pam and our friends over there and I just want to say thank you to them.
Speaker AWe are actually returning to where around the House was originated from 37 years ago, which is over on 101 KXL in Portland.
Speaker AAnd we are changing back over to that and we're going back home.
Speaker ABut there was been a number of years now that salem media and 860 the answer Portland has really helped us out.
Speaker AWhen KXL was going through its struggles with Alpha Media and their bankruptcy, all of us weekend hosts, one weekend or one Friday got the boot and KXL came in and things happen.
Speaker AThis is radio.
Speaker AWe went over to KPAM and those guys really helped us out over the last, geez, seven, eight years, however long it's been.
Speaker AAnd my thanks to all the amazing people over at Salem Media for helping us through over there.
Speaker AAnd we are now changing back over to the OG station from 10 to noon on Saturdays on KXL Oregon, much bigger footprint.
Speaker ASo you guys out and out at the coast out in the Dalles that we're having sometimes a problem on AM getting us now you can get us on FM or just the podcast.
Speaker ASo we'll be coming back over there.
Speaker AIt's gonna be a lot of fun.
Speaker AWanted to touch on that one because my sincerest thank you to Chris Kelly and all the people over there that I've been working with over the years at Salem Media.
Speaker AThey've been great.
Speaker AJohnny, let's talk about the list.
Speaker AYou need this, please, you need this one.
Speaker AThis next one has got your name written all over it.
Speaker CDude, I want it actually.
Speaker COkay, 54 off.
Speaker CIt's.
Speaker CYeah, that's.
Speaker CYeah, that's about as good as it's gonna get.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd yeah.
Speaker CSo always trying to be self sufficient, deep cell battery guy.
Speaker CJust leave me alone.
Speaker CAnd I'm thinking these I could probably still record music and keep a light on for the dogs.
Speaker CAnd that's really all I need to cook with gas.
Speaker CCome on.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker ASo look it up.
Speaker AThis is made by our friend.
Speaker CI love that it comes with the panel.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo this is a jackery solar generator.
Speaker AA thousand version, thousand watt.
Speaker ABasically it's solar generator Model thousand version two with 200 watt solar panel.
Speaker AAnd then it has a 1070 watt hour portable power station with the Life PO4 battery.
Speaker A1500 watt AC, 100 watt USB C output, one hour fast charge for outdoor off grid living.
Speaker ARV or emergency.
Speaker A54% off for 599 regularly.
Speaker A1300 bucks, dude.
Speaker CYeah, that's a steal, man.
Speaker ASo it's all you need.
Speaker AIt's got the solar panel that folds up into its own little case.
Speaker AAnd then you've got this power station here that takes.
Speaker AYou can plug in three different 110 outlets into it.
Speaker AOn the AC side, if you want to go DC and just run everything off of USB C or USB A, you can do that as well.
Speaker ABut these things are so cool.
Speaker AI have a version of this myself.
Speaker AI got to get back from my kid actually late.
Speaker ABackup power.
Speaker CYou know, it's cool.
Speaker CYou know it's cool when the kid steals it.
Speaker AShe loves taking it for big concerts and stuff because when they're camping.
Speaker CYeah, of course.
Speaker COh yeah.
Speaker CYou can plug a blender into that.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker AMargarita Day.
Speaker ASee, you're all good.
Speaker AYou're all good.
Speaker ABut what a deal for 5.99.
Speaker CNo, that's slick.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo if you want to find out more about this thing, guys, just head over to our website aroundthehouse online dot com.
Speaker AWe'll have the list over there so you can.
Speaker AWith links and all that stuff so you don't have to worry about trying to write it down.
Speaker ANow the next one here, that one's a really good deal.
Speaker AWith that kind of money off of it.
Speaker AThe next one here I think is really important, especially if you've got that contractor.
Speaker AAnd I'm going to share this one with you here, Johnny, because this is funny.
Speaker AThis is one of those ones, a contractor that never shows up at the job site that you're like, hey, why aren't they here?
Speaker AIt's either two things.
Speaker AThey had a flat tire or they couldn't jumpstart their vehicle.
Speaker ASo this is one of those handheld batteries.
Speaker AThat's the car jump starter.
Speaker ASo it's a 4000amp jump starter battery pack that'll work up to an 8 liter gas and 7 liter diesel engine.
Speaker CWow, man, that's slick.
Speaker CLook at that.
Speaker ASo all you do is just plug it in the wall, charge it up, and then you just come over, set it right on there and give it a second.
Speaker AIt'll tell you when to go.
Speaker AAnd you can charge your phone and any other thing off of it.
Speaker ABut, man, I tell you what, these can be a lifesaver when you're having electrical issues or you got that car that's just a little pesky and doesn't want to start.
Speaker AAnd especially in the cold.
Speaker AI think it's a great thing.
Speaker AThis is a great tool to put in somebody's their go bag or their winter weather driving bag.
Speaker AOr I have one of these like this in my bag that I keep in my truck.
Speaker AThat's just that emergency kit with the first aid kit and some of the stuff in there.
Speaker CSo you've known me for a lot of years, Dage.
Speaker CSome of the cars I'm on, 67 Volkswagen buses, things like that.
Speaker CYou know what it's like to have to wake up a freaking roommate at 5:00am and go, Dude, I need a chump.
Speaker CSorry.
Speaker ASorry.
Speaker AExactly.
Speaker AExactly.
Speaker AAnd 40 bucks.
Speaker A$40.58.
Speaker A57% off.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CI wish I would have had one of those pretty much my entire life.
Speaker ADude, I got one in literally in my toolbox in the truck because.
Speaker AJust so nice to have.
Speaker AAnd if somebody else needs to jump in your biome, you don't have to get all the.
Speaker AYou don't have to get your car jammed in there.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CLet me get the cables.
Speaker AThe cables aren't long enough.
Speaker CNo.
Speaker CThat's super slick, man.
Speaker CTook us long enough to come up with that one.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd come on, 40 bucks?
Speaker CGeez, no.
Speaker AWhat's a tow truck gonna cost you to come out and jump it over that?
Speaker CI was just gonna say if that saves your butt one time.
Speaker CDude, it's.
Speaker CYou've told your money.
Speaker AIt's 4,000amps.
Speaker AThere's plenty of power in that.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CIf it saves you an hour trying to track down a jump start or the embarrassment of asking somebody.
Speaker CI used to be really shy about that in the parking lot or something like.
Speaker COh, man, I don't want to bug somebody for a joke.
Speaker CYeah, no, for four bucks.
Speaker CHandy in my veto sheet.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AAnd by the way, it's going to save you an hour and a half because I don't care if you're calling AAA, a tow truck, whatever else.
Speaker AIt's 90 minutes for somebody to get to you.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker ANo matter where you are.
Speaker CThat's almost as good as new socks, this one.
Speaker CHere you go.
Speaker CThat's my favorite on the list right there.
Speaker AAll right, There we go.
Speaker A40 bucks.
Speaker AEasy peasy.
Speaker CAll right, now you know what I want.
Speaker ADude, that's awesome.
Speaker AThat's awesome.
Speaker ANow, the next one here I think is equally fun.
Speaker AThis one might be a good one for you.
Speaker AAll right, you ready for this one, Johnny?
Speaker AHere we go.
Speaker CEverything to do with power is a good one for me, it would seem.
Speaker AThis is gonna get better.
Speaker AThis one's getting better.
Speaker ACheck out these Bose Comfort earbuds.
Speaker AQuiet Comfort earbuds.
Speaker CI don't want to talk about this one.
Speaker CI've got mine in right now, and I paid $400 for mine, so I'm a little irked by this one.
Speaker C$29 bit.
Speaker CAnd mine are 3 years old.
Speaker CI'm like, ah.
Speaker ASo these are the Bose QuietComfort earbuds.
Speaker ATrue wireless Bluetooth earbuds with active noise cancellation, a mic, USB, C charging, IPX4 ratings.
Speaker ASo if you drop them in the toilet, they're good for a minute, which.
Speaker CI've done more than twice.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker AWho hasn't?
Speaker AWho hasn't?
Speaker CI'm serious.
Speaker CI did, like, more than twice.
Speaker CI've dropped mine in the toilet.
Speaker CThey're still working after three and a half years.
Speaker CAnd I will tell you, these things are magical.
Speaker CLike, the first time I put them in, felt like somebody put a vacuum in my ear.
Speaker CI tested them out in a club with a booming DJ going.
Speaker CI was like, oh, my Lord.
Speaker CI had no idea this was possible.
Speaker CYeah, just go silent like a library in your head.
Speaker CYou're like, you gotta be kidding me.
Speaker CYeah, they're amazing.
Speaker CAmazing.
Speaker CFor 129 bucks, I'll buy two pair because my dog always likes to eat one pair.
Speaker AOh, of course.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker A28 off.
Speaker A100 regular.
Speaker A179 bucks at the Bow store here on Amazon.
Speaker AThat is killer.
Speaker CYeah, no, those are amazing colors.
Speaker AIf you want the black ones, these are the blue ones.
Speaker AThey have pink, they got white.
Speaker AWhatever you want.
Speaker CAnd if you get those for anybody on your list, you're getting a giant hug because they're awesome.
Speaker CI get a little Crackle Mine once in a while, but I think it's just because they're old.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker CAnd a couple visits in the toilet, and then 90 times I've dropped the case on the floor and they bounce across the room.
Speaker ABrutal.
Speaker ABrutal.
Speaker CI'm pretty good at breaking stuff.
Speaker CI fixed my phone screen the other day for the 17th time and cracked it in two days again, like, I just harbor stuff now.
Speaker AYou and I both.
Speaker AHey, when we come back here, Johnny, let's run out to break.
Speaker AWe've run over.
Speaker AWe'll talk about the last bits on the list and of course, maybe the presents you presents you might not want to get.
Speaker AFamily members.
Speaker AWe'll do that just as soon as around the House returns.
Speaker AWelcome back to the around the House show, your trusted source for home improvement information.
Speaker AIf you're just joining us, Johnny Tudley and I have been sitting here talking about really cool Black Friday sales gift ideas, that kind of stuff for people out there.
Speaker AIf you're out shopping this weekend, we got one here and we're going out to break.
Speaker AWe were talking about how those mobile jump starters can really save your behind right when you need to, especially if it's cold outside.
Speaker AThat battery just didn't work as good as it did when it was 40 and now it's 20 and it's not getting.
Speaker ABut I think I've got the best gift here.
Speaker AIf you didn't do the jumpstart right, Johnny, I can see this.
Speaker ASo, Johnny, you're not paying attention to the instructions.
Speaker AYou pull the leads off the jump starter, you put it in your pocket, 4,000amps of power crack off in your back, and this next gift is ready for you.
Speaker AThe Cardio mobile One lead personal EKG monitor.
Speaker CIt's just, it's only going to tell me I'm in trouble.
Speaker CThen I got to use the jump starter to get myself back up off the ground.
Speaker AWell, wait a minute, wait a minute.
Speaker AThe jump starter is not a defib device.
Speaker AYou don't just put.
Speaker CAre you sure?
Speaker CHave you tried it?
Speaker ANot yet.
Speaker ANot yet.
Speaker ABut I think.
Speaker CWhere's Steve O when you need him?
Speaker CHe'll give it a whirl.
Speaker ABrutal.
Speaker ABut the Cardio mobile One lead personal EKG monitor, basically what this is, it's a medical device you can get for $67, you can literally put your thumbs on this thing or your fingers on this thing and it will give you a medical ekg.
Speaker AOne lead EKG from home.
Speaker ASo I think it's a really good first aid thing if you've got, if you're a workout person or you are sitting there, you know, maybe people in your house could be a good thing to have just charged up ready in your go bag.
Speaker ABut I think a, it definitely, it'll detect afib and other common arrhythmias from home.
Speaker ASo if you're having.
Speaker AWow, my heart's not feeling right.
Speaker AOpen the app up, touch your fingers on this, records it, and it'll tell you what's going on.
Speaker CYeah, it's pretty cool.
Speaker CPretty amazing.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ABasically, you just throw it on the countertop, it shows here, and you just put your two fingers on it, hold it down, it'll run that, and then you'll see.
Speaker AAnd, you know, you hear it on the radio all the time for 79 or 99, and they got it on here for 67, which is pretty cool.
Speaker ASo, you know, why not?
Speaker CEver since Kovid has gotten some weird heart stuff, man.
Speaker CAnd this, that'd actually be really slick for her.
Speaker CI would be too scared.
Speaker CI'd never use it.
Speaker AYeah, you don't want to know, though, brother.
Speaker CI know you don't want to know.
Speaker ADude, but it's FDA cleared, so this is not some, like, little snake oil kit.
Speaker AThis is actually the real deal.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CFor real.
Speaker CThat would be great for my mom.
Speaker CShe's gone to the doctor a couple of times thinking she's having heart attacks over the last couple of years just because she got Covid so severely.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CAnd did affect it.
Speaker CIt did affect her heart, and they had some concerns.
Speaker CBut this could have saved her a couple of trips.
Speaker CThat would have been super handy.
Speaker CWhat a great idea.
Speaker AYeah, it's really cool.
Speaker AI've heard on the radio be advertised.
Speaker AAnd when I was doing my deep dive, I went, hey, that's a cool one.
Speaker AThat's a cool one.
Speaker ASo I like, actually go ahead.
Speaker CWe just said that.
Speaker CWe just went to the emergency room the other day.
Speaker CKat was walking down the street and was like, got dizzy and felt weird, and I got her straight in the taxi.
Speaker CWe went to the hospital, but like, it was that she said, heart feels weird.
Speaker CI feel dizzy at that.
Speaker CThat would have been super handy.
Speaker C67 bucks instead of.
Speaker CWell, doctors are cheap down here.
Speaker ABut I was gonna say here's your.
Speaker C1500 bucks just to go get that hooked up in the doctor.
Speaker CSo spending 67 bucks and save yourself the trip.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThat's definitely cheaper than your co Pay is probably going to be for most people out there.
Speaker AFor most people.
Speaker AJohnny, I want to hear your list here.
Speaker AWhat do you have for maybe or experience?
Speaker AWhat do you say people should maybe think about maybe not getting family members or loved ones for the holidays?
Speaker CI will tell you a quick childhood trauma that I survived and learned from.
Speaker CIt put a great impression on me.
Speaker CMy.
Speaker CMy grandpa one year.
Speaker CWell, my grandma and grandpa were like this, but my grandma probably all year heckling the poor dude.
Speaker CI want a new vacuum I need a new vacuum.
Speaker CI need a new vacuum.
Speaker CGrandpa thinks he a great idea.
Speaker CShe's gonna love this new vacuum.
Speaker CIt's got every contraption and every magic switch you could imagine.
Speaker CThis is 1975, mind you.
Speaker ASo it's probably a vacuum trap.
Speaker AGo ahead.
Speaker CAnd my grandma cried and didn't speak to him for three days.
Speaker CSo don't get your wife a vacuum.
Speaker CIt will not go over well no matter how much she wants a new vacuum.
Speaker CThat is not a Christmas present.
Speaker CThat is a mandatory obligation that you as a man need to purchase for the household.
Speaker CNot for Christmas.
Speaker AIt's like getting the lawnmower.
Speaker AThe guy goes, it's a lawnmower.
Speaker CThanks.
Speaker CIs that a hint?
Speaker CYeah, yeah.
Speaker AThat's just a.
Speaker AIt's.
Speaker AIt's not a tool for the collection.
Speaker CYeah, it's not cool.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AI mean, it's the.
Speaker AEven then there was plenty of sexist back notes on that.
Speaker AThat could be fence too, even 40 years ago.
Speaker A50 years ago.
Speaker ASo I get that.
Speaker AI think the other trap is.
Speaker AAnd you and I have talked about this before.
Speaker AOh, we're not going to get each other gifts this year.
Speaker CThe no gift.
Speaker CThe no gift mind read that you're supposed to pull off.
Speaker CDude, I legit don't do it.
Speaker CI legit don't do it.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker CNo gifts.
Speaker CNo gifts.
Speaker ACool.
Speaker CAnd then you're in trouble.
Speaker CAnd I'm okay with being in trouble.
Speaker CDude, you said no gifts.
Speaker CI don't know how to read your mind.
Speaker CForget it.
Speaker CNo gifts is no gifts in my book.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd that's the whole family.
Speaker CThat's not just like your gal or your wife.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CThe whole family pulls that trip.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker CAnd then there's always the uncle that shows up with a little something for everybody.
Speaker CSo you feel like a big jerk.
Speaker CYou said no gifts.
Speaker CWhat?
Speaker COh.
Speaker CBut yeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd the problem is, is families get bigger.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CIt's crazy.
Speaker CCan't get everybody a gift.
Speaker CEven if it's five bucks.
Speaker ASuddenly it's, you got 100 bucks going.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker C200 bucks.
Speaker CYou're like, come on.
Speaker AIt's crazy, man.
Speaker AYou're sitting there.
Speaker AAnd again, the white elephant can be fun.
Speaker AWhen everybody gets together, that can be kind of fun.
Speaker AThere's always that person that breaks the rules.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AWe're to keep it under 35 and someone's got a hundred dollar something in there.
Speaker CRight.
Speaker CSomebody buys a trip to Bora, you're like, oh, thanks, dude.
Speaker CNow everyone's a jerk but you.
Speaker AYeah, absolutely.
Speaker AWe had rules.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AThat's the Thing and again, be very careful.
Speaker AI think for many people, the more personalized, the more intuitive.
Speaker ALike gift you can get.
Speaker ANow, not just the gift card.
Speaker AA gift card's an easy way, especially if they're out of town.
Speaker AAnd like for instance, my son and his wife.
Speaker AI'm much more likely to get them a gift card because one, if I buy him something, they're four states away and I haven't been through his shop to see what's in his garage.
Speaker AI'm not asking or get involved.
Speaker ASo sometimes the gift cards can work.
Speaker ABut really, if you really want to be thoughtful, think about it.
Speaker AThink about something that makes their day better without having to buy them a tool to do.
Speaker AYou don't want to get them a toilet scrub brush or something like that.
Speaker AThat's.
Speaker CYeah, I honestly, the thing.
Speaker CI don't know.
Speaker CI. Oh, I could go on a whole rant, Eric, but I won't.
Speaker CI will say that I got way better at feeling no guilt over not buying something for somebody.
Speaker CIf I didn't see something and think of them, I didn't go out buy five pounds of coffee and five coffee mugs for everybody in the family that day when you go to the Christmas party because we don't need it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CYou know what I mean?
Speaker CIf I wanted to do something like that.
Speaker CGo buy somebody lunch who hasn't eaten in two days.
Speaker CLike I'm not.
Speaker CYou and me, we don't need anything.
Speaker CMy family, we don't want for anything.
Speaker CAnd we go around wasting hundreds of dollars on silly petty stuff.
Speaker CThat.
Speaker COh, another Starbucks mug that I break within three months or it sits in my in a box in the garage for three years.
Speaker COne of the two.
Speaker CIt's wasteful.
Speaker AWell, take Johnny before we go out and this is like on Father's Day and the same thing for dear old dad or even dear old mom.
Speaker AIf they are a Milwaukee or a Dewalt or what name that.
Speaker AIf they're a tool person that takes their tools seriously.
Speaker APlease do not go down to the discount store and buy the no name brand of hammer.
Speaker CRight.
Speaker AThey're never going to use it.
Speaker AThey're going to throw it away.
Speaker AThey're now having to keep it because if you come over they want to see it, let you know that they kept it.
Speaker CYeah, the 15 piece screwdriver set that's still sealed and you haven't opened because Absolutely.
Speaker CThe first time you use it, it.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AGo direction.
Speaker AIf you can't keep up to their level, that's good.
Speaker AThink about something else.
Speaker AMaybe get some.
Speaker CThere's a gift card idea, right?
Speaker CHey, I may love tools.
Speaker CHere's Home depot gift card because I can't afford a whole table saw.
Speaker CBut here's towards, here's 50 bucks towards your table saw or go buy a.
Speaker ANew blade for the one you got or whatever that is.
Speaker ALet's not we the last thing you need is more clutter and crap out there.
Speaker AGet something went out some nice warm socks.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker CSocks are my favorite still.
Speaker CMom gets them for me every year.
Speaker CMy favorite present every year, socks.
Speaker AThere we go.
