Speaker AHello and welcome to the Choosing Happy Podcast and day one of the International Coaching Week.
Speaker AAnd today we're focusing on awareness.
Speaker AAnd I'd invite you to think of a situation or behavior, behavior that keeps repeating in your life, something you seem like you can't shift.
Speaker AIt doesn't matter what you want to do, it seems to stick.
Speaker AAnd today is about identifying it.
Speaker AJust taking a moment to close your eyes and picturing the last time this happened and just notice where you were, who else was there, and how did it make you feel.
Speaker AI don't want you to stay there too long.
Speaker AIt's just to become aware of it and to become aware of the situation.
Speaker AAnd when you look, when you're feeling into your body, just notice where it is in your body, whether you get a picture as well.
Speaker AIf you get the picture, what does it look like?
Speaker AIs it bright?
Speaker AIs it dark?
Speaker ADo you get heavy feeling with it?
Speaker AIs there a sound that you associate with it?
Speaker AJust before that pattern happens, before you go into that repeating pattern behaviors, ask yourself, what do you believe about yourself or the world when that pattern happens?
Speaker AAnd if it's a pattern that happens over time, just take a moment to notice the process, notice the strategy that you're running for yourself in terms of allowing this to happen.
Speaker AWhat's the repeated thoughts?
Speaker AWhat are the repeating feelings?
Speaker ADo you spiral downwards?
Speaker AWhat happens within your mind and then what happens outside?
Speaker AJust remember the map is not the territory.
Speaker AAnd what we mean by that is that your perception is just one version of reality.
Speaker ASo, for instance, example I love to use is if there's a robbery in a bank, for instance, or a big sort of event that happens in the world, three different people will possibly have three different versions and three different opinions on what happened, you know, at a football match or a rugby match that if there's a foul, there are multiple versions of what actually happened.
Speaker AAnd that's why we have the the video now to show what really happened.
Speaker AThe video, if you like, is the territory.
Speaker AThe our interpretation of what happened without the video is the map.
Speaker AAnd this week we're going to explore how to shift that map.
Speaker AWrite down your pattern, describe it in detail.
Speaker ANotice how it feels in your body.
Speaker ANotice any pictures, sounds, tastes, anything that's related to it.
Speaker AEven when you're picturing it, does it have a frame?
Speaker ANotice whether it's dark or light, whether the feelings are heavy, is there colour?
Speaker ANote as much detail as possible without getting too caught up in the event.
Speaker AAnd tomorrow we'll start to unravel it.
Speaker AAnd I'll see you again tomorrow for reframing and changing the lens on that repeating pattern.
