Lou Mongello

One of one of Marvel's most beloved characters, and admittedly my favorite, finally returned. Not just stronger, but more focused, more grounded, and more powerful than ever before. This week I'm sharing something a little bit different as I'm taking you inside this week's WDW RADIO Live show, where we had the chance to talk spoiler free about Born Again Season two and specifically Episode one after getting a chance to see the full season early thanks to Marvel Studios and and what I discovered might just change how you think about Marvel storytelling right now. So whether you've seen Episode one or not, grab a snack, get comfortable, and let's talk about why Daredevil might just be exactly what Marvel and we needed. Let's talk Daredevil. It feels like it is the first time in forever. I know. Bad cliche since I'VE been here because it's true. I my travels have been wonderful. Exhaustion is a privilege. I'm grateful for everything I get to do because of you. But I haven't been able to go live as often as I want. And that's why tonight I almost went out to the park and I'm like, you know what? I just want to talk. I just want to talk about Daredevil. I want to talk, if we have some time, about some of the other things that have been going on, some of the things that are coming up and certainly hear from you as well, because that's really, for me, what's the most important part of the live show is so thank you for being here. Welcome, or welcome back. If it is your first time watching. I appreciate you. Let me know where you are watching from again. It's so good to see familiar names and faces. These always feel like family reunions when I see names that I have to put my glasses on to read in the chat. Jim and Hannah, Andrew. But I want to get right into Daredevil. I am a huge Daredevil fan, in case you can't see by some of the stuff I've got behind me. I understand and I relate to Matt Murdock a lot. Not just because we're from the New York, New Jersey area, but I am a recovering attorney. I'm Catholic, so I feel a lot of the guilt and the pressure. And there's relatable things like growing up, you also see there's a lot of Spider man stuff. Growing up, I loved Spider man. And even as a semi adult, I've always loved Spider Man. I still do. And I think part of what made Spider man and continues to make Spider man so popular is his relatability to teenagers and young kids. And as I got older, I found more of that in Matt Murdock and Daredevil. I'm also blind as a bat. My contacts are as thick as Coke bottles. So there's a lot that I get from Matt Murdock. And I have to be honest with you, like, I, I've. And I'm so happy that this, that, that it premiered last night and that the show is tonight because I've been sitting on this for a little while and I've been like, dying to talk about it with somebody. I was very fortunate again to have the opportunity to screen not just the first episode, but the entire second season of Born Again ahead of its release yesterday. So I want to share some of my thoughts. I'm going to really try and keep them to the first episode. Spoiler flip, spoiler free. So whether you're just starting out or if you've already, like watched the first episode, you're good. And I'm going to try and keep my eye on the comments as much as I can and as I go along. But we'll definitely discuss, I want to hear from you after I share my thoughts. And I'm going to be real. I always am. You know, Season one of Daredevil Born Again, I think for a lot of people is a bit of a mixed bag. And I think coming off of the original Netflix series, which I still believe, and I will, like wave this flag hard till the day I die, I think the first, I think the Netflix Daredevil series is some of the best work Marvel has put on screen, period. It was raw and gritty, very emotional, very deep, and very unapologetic for what it was. And I think Daredevil Born Again Season one one had a tough act to follow. And I think two, it was a show that was very clearly trying to figure itself out. It had to deal with a very public production restart, for lack of a better word. And I think it was also trying to do and be several things all at once. So going into season two, I was very, very excited. Like I had sort of yesterday sort of circled on my calendar like it was Christmas. But I was cautiously optimistic at best. What I got. And again, this is sort of looking at the totality of season two is not what I was prepared for. And again, this is not a spoil, this is a spoiler free conversation. But the show really feels like it has found its footing and its voice and its purpose. And if you are, if you were a fan of the original Netflix series, and if you're not, stop what you're doing, go back and watch it. If Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk have a place in your heart, if Charlie Cox and Vincent d' Onofrio do for you, like as they do for me, this one is going to mean a lot to you. And again, episode one dropped yesterday. I love, love, love the fact that they did not drop all episodes at once. I think when that happens, sometimes the way I interpret that is that maybe they don't necessarily have confidence in the show itself, so they want to sort of just push it all out at once, whether good, bad. Otherwise, if there is fallout from it, it happens quickly, the blip is over and then they move on. And I think we saw that in things like Echo and some of the other shows that may and did not necessarily perform as well on Disney. Whereas when you get something like WandaVision and you have what I like to call sort of that water cooler conversation week over week, I think it shows confidence in the show. But from the moment you turn on season two, episode one, the Northern Star, you really sort of get this tonal shift. It is a. I think it's a much leaner, It's a much more purposeful version of the show than we got in season one. It wastes no time getting you right back into the stakes. Like, there is a sense of urgency right from the outset of the show. It does not feel like a slow burn. Episode one is not sort of. All right, let's sort of recap last year. We. Let's wind up a little bit. You understand that there is a out and out. There's a war going on, not just for Matt and his soul, as we saw in the original series, but really a war for the city. And I think what I love about episode one and what sort of I had myself smiling at the beginning was the tone is set right from the gate, right out of the gate. Visually, emotionally, you sort of. There's a direction to the choreography and the cinematography that I think really calls back to the best of the best of that Netflix era. And instead of just sort of letting you, like, work your way into it, which I think some series, including some of the Marvel Disney series, I think. I think Jessica Jones is a bit of a slow burn. I think some of the Defenders and others, there's a lot of heavy lifting in episode one. It's helping you sort of reestablish who the key players are. So it does help sort of set the framework for who is who and where they are. But I think it also does a great job. And again, hindsight being 2020 for me, it lays the groundwork for what is coming. And I think it does so. And understand what I mean by this. I think it does so without this feeling like it is a homework assignment. And what I mean by that is some of the shows, I think some of the movies, there is a. It's not just depth. I think there's a complexity to it that when you are done, yes, sometimes you want to go and you want to watch the recap videos, you want to watch the spoiler videos. Maybe you want to go hopefully and pick up a comic book or go back and watch Netflix one season, season one through four. This doesn't feel like you need to do that. I think it. It does a really Good job of reestablishing the world without it being this purely expository, like laying it on with a trowel. This is what happened. This is what's happening now. Now we're going to set you up for episode two and beyond. There's a lot of, not just sort of emotional tension, but I think, moral tension that goes on here. So it's not just about the mechanics of the plot. And what I really love about not just this episode, but the series and the character as a whole. Again, coming from the New York, New Jersey area, I think this season, and I think you'll see it, if you haven't already, in episode one, Hell's Kitchen feels like more than just a set. It's not just a backdrop. It's not just sort of where things take place. There is a sense of gravity to what Hell's Kitchen, Hell's Kitchen sort of becomes a character in this, because Hell's Kitchen has to be this city. And this specifically this part of the city that is worth fighting for and worth everything that's going to happen in the episodes that come up after this. And like Charlie Cox, man, right out of the gate, he. You know, there's a Daredevil and Charlie. Charlie and Matt Murdock, I think both have burdens that they take on, which are slightly different, right? There's Daredevil and then the burden that Matt has as an attorney. And I think Charlie Cox does not sort of like, overact it and overplay it. Like, there's. It's less sort of theatrical, his performance than there is sort of a reality and a comfort to who and where Matt Murdock is. That being said, Vincent d', Onofrio, who I think is a fantastic actor, a very, very wide spectrum of roles. He is so good and he's so scary and he's so dangerous. He's most dangerous not when he's shouting, but when he's composed and when he's strategic and when he's patient. Parents, we could probably take a lesson from Kingpin, but there is this fear that you can almost feel when he is at his most calm, because you know that there is this internal storm brewing. And I think that's what episode one does such a good job of is. You can see that this season is not just about action. It's not about, yes, there's politics and things like that, but it's what happens emotionally. And, yes, there is a toughness, there is a brutality, but it's not. You know, I think some shows are sort of brutal for the sake of being brutal. And that is not what this is. This is very. I sort of felt, and I've had a little bit of time to reflect on, feels much more like set in the tone than I think some of the earlier Marvel streaming launches. It gets that you understand this world. It's not about explaining, it's more about escalating what's going on. And if you have or have not watched episode one, you'll see or you saw things ramp up very, very quickly. But there's also, there's patience to it. Again, I sort of have the benefit of hindsight, but it does not give away too much too early. And I think that there is a great deal. And the word that kept on coming up in my mind is restraint. I think there's restraint in the writing, I think there's restraint in the performances and I think there is restraint in the storytelling as well. It's not a slow burn, but it wants to let it play out. And I think the thing that you'll pick up, which is what I've loved and especially as it's evolved from the very first Netflix series, is the Fisk versus Murdoch dynamic. And that's going to have multiple meetings. You'll see what I mean. It's already operating on multiple levels, right? Their relationship has changed and grown and is kind of weird, but it's operating on legal levels and political levels and very, very personal levels. And I think that is why the Daredevil Kingpin rivalry is one of the most interesting and grounded and real and compelling rivalries in all of Marvel. I love me some Spider man and Green Goblin, but it's fantasy. There is a reality to this show which is what I love. It's part of what I why I love both of these characters so much. They are grounded, street level, world outside your window, as Stanley, like, used to say characters. And you feel that more so here because there's not flying gliders and pumpkin bombs and things like that. These are people who you could see on your, on the street and they are people who you can almost see element of in other people as well. And the conflict, which is not necessarily it's the physical conflict, but the conflict that. And this is where I think Charlie Cox just says the conflict of the law and the faith and the guilt and the politics, they're all sort of like butting heads all at the same time. So there's a lot happening all at once. Even though there might not be a lot happening in terms of action. We also get the return of some characters, we get some new characters without it feeling like there's too much. It's not Spider Man 3, where there's, like, 19 different characters trying to sort of all have their A, B, C and D plot lines. The episode doesn't feel very crowded. And I think the first episode, and I think you'll see after the whole series is built on. There's this pressure. There's this anxiety in the most wonderful sense that builds up throughout each episode and throughout the entire series. And it's pressure. Like, it's pressure that Matt feels, it's pressure that Karen feels. It's pressure on Matt, it's pressure on Fisk, it's pressure on the city. And there's pressure on this idea of heroism and vigilantism itself. And it does not, thankfully, shy away from the darker tones. It feels. It almost feels less like an mcu, like, big event, right? Because it's not. It's not sort of on that same scale. It almost feels more like. Like a really good crime drama that just happens to have a guy who's blind in a black and red suit, which looks awesome, by the way. I dig, dig, dig the black suit a lot. Matt has gone through a number of different Edera. Of course, now that I have the red helmet, he's got the black helmet. It's fine. I'm sure he'll go back. But, you know, part of what I love about this series, part of what I love about the character, I think part of what a lot of people understand and relate to is what I love about Matt Murdock and more importantly, Daredevil as a superhero, is it's not because of the quote, unquote, superpowers that he has. Right. He has all these heightened senses because of the accident and because he's blind. But he's interesting because of not necessarily the external conflict, but because he's divided internally. He has all the. All these things that are competing against one another, these and these identities that are, like, incompatible. Like, he's a lawyer and he's a vigilante, and he's a man of faith, deep faith. And he's a man of rage. And he's a protector and a little bit of a Punisher, no pun intended, all at the same time. And I think that conflict is what makes him interesting. I think you'll see over season two, it's what they really lean into a lot more. And it's not about Matt winning or losing. Right. It's never about Matt winning or losing a case or winning, losing a battle with Fisk or whoever it is, It's. Can Matt keep himself together, literally and figuratively? Can he keep himself physically together? But can he keep himself mentally together? And, you know, from the. The plot and the show perspective, he's got to be that sort of center of gravity for the entire things. And I just think there's so much emotional weight and so much emotional tension in this episode. And I think that this second series, which is why I would rank it even higher than season one, which I really enjoyed. Again, Vincent d' Onofrio and Kingpin, who has been a Spider man villain in addition to a. He's made his rounds of the Big Apple, as it were, and some of the other superheroes who have made their home there or have visited there again, I'm hoping eventually one day we get an MCU film that is grounded in New York and all these characters can come together. It might happen on Disney plus again. We had the Defenders, we had Luke Cage, we had Jessica Jones, we had a really bad Iron Fist, we had the Punisher, but some of those characters and the Baxter Building is there and Dr. Strange is there. There are a lot of characters that live and work and play and fight in the New York area. I would love to see a true, grounded, non cosmic, multiverse universe, multivariant MCU film where all these characters can come together and really sort of level up. But I think Wilson Fisk as Kingpin has always been a. One of the best villains because he's not. He never feels like this big bad guy, right? He's certainly not a Thanos, right? On a galactic universal scare. He's not Galactus. He's not even somebody like a Green Goblin or some of the other, like, Spider man villains. He is sort of what he represents. He represents what power looks like. I don't mean, yes, physically power, but a powerful person and image and control. And there's also that same level of depth and grief and sadness and conflict. Like, there's a lot you can feel sympathetic towards Wilson Fisk. Not when he's beating somebody to a pulp, but emotionally, you can feel that. And I think Vincent d' Onofrio does such a remarkable job of conveying that sometimes without even saying a word, it's a twitch in his eye. Watch his fingers. Watch. I know it's weird. Go back and watch Kingpin's fingers when he talks and how his subtle movements change depending on what is going on inside of him and what I love and I think what makes him so Effective is that he's not just opposing Daredevil physically. When they're. When they're physically fighting, he's challenging him in terms of what they both want to New York really to. To eventually becomes like, in Wilson Fisk's mind, he's able to justify that brutality that he and the people under him have because he feels like it's justified, because he's trying to create order. Like, he almost sort of has that weird sympathetic, like, Thanos vibe. Like, I have good intentions by doing this. It's the violence is just a means to an end, and that end is order. That makes him very unsettling because in his mind, what he's doing makes logical sense. And that's like. That's part of the beauty of the conflict between him and Matt. It's very ideological and it's also personal as well. And it feels. I sort of keep using the Spider Man, Green Goblin. It feels less like hero versus villain and more like two men in very different sort of roles of power, but who are trying to impose their view or sort of the way things should be on the city. One is they're both violent. Although Matt, you know, does not kill or he's got sort of has that sort of same moral code. But this whole show is really about power. It's not superpowers. It's who gets to wield it and who abuses it and who, for both of them, who rationalizes that power. And I think one of the things that you really see, and I think that the canvas is widened in terms of this perspective too, is you really get a sense of the public's reaction and public's fear. Not just in sort of the quick one shot, like man on the street interviews, but it's that fear and how it's manipulated. And again, I don't want to spoil too much, but, you know, it's almost the two masks that are being worn. There's a mask that Wilson Fisk wears. It's a metaphorical mask as well as the literal and figurative mask that Matt Murdock wares. And, you know, it's the conflicts of their versions of justice, their versions of vengeance, vengeance, their versions of how they deal with emotional and very personal trauma. And obviously there's a lot of. Of politics in this as well. Um, it's. It's. There's a lot of. Again, that's why I sort of talk about it being a. You know, it's not LA law, but it's a. It is a legal crime, political drama. And you see that corruption sort of lives on many levels from a civic level and an institutional level and a cultural level and a psychological level. And I think that's one of the things that sort of enforces that tension. Obviously, if you've watched the Netflix show, if you watch season one, it is very action oriented, but I think it's more intentional here in terms of the motivation behind the action that happens. And kudos to whomever the director and cinematographer are because you could almost feel like there's. There's some of the things that happen. And I found myself, like, physically, like, reacting to what was going on. And you feel it because of not just the way it's shot, but. But you feel it because it feels consequential to Daredevil, who at the end of the day is just a normal guy. He's not Thor, he's not the Hulk. He's not, you know, even some of these other ca. When things happen to him, there is weight to it. And the action isn't just about like, whoa, that was an incredible scene. It. You feel it because you're like, he's. He's bloody, he's getting beaten, he is exhausted, he is suffering. He is suffering injuries which could potentially be fatal because, again, he doesn't have any sort of superhero healing powers. But if you have or have not watched episode one or any. The best way to watch this show, like get on your little couch or wherever you watch and turn off all the lights. Turn off all the lights. Please put down your phone. This is not a second screen show because I think visually it is best enjoyed and embraced when you see the shadows and the textures and the physical spaces. There are scenes where it's very dark intentionally, and it's not. It doesn't use any sort of false lighting to try and brighten things up. I think the direction and the lighting of the cinematography is so very intentional. And if you've got them, flaunt them. Like, crank up your. Your 7.1 surround sound because you feel and hear the impact. And the music is beautiful and the score is beautiful. Like, I love it on so many levels. And I think, again, I'm not going to talk about anything that goes on beyond episode one. I'm not going to even talk about any details, really of episode one. But I think this season functions less as, like, a standalone story and more like a true conclusion to. Not that it ends, but a true conclusion or next chapter to the story that began in 2015 on Netflix. And if you've watched that, I think this episode. And this season is going to hit differently because for a lot of people, I think Born Again, season one was trying to find its identity. And again, there was a lot of writing and production and rewrite and changes in principals and executives. So while it was trying to find its identity, season two very clearly knows exactly what it wants to be. And kudos. Again, Charlie Cox, like, this is. This is career best work. I think Vincent d' Onofrio is remarkably compelling and will take you on a bit of an emotional journey. But man, he. When you think that you saw everything he was capable of in season one, he operates on such a grander, wider, deeper, more frightening and, and sometimes emotional scale. I don't want to say too much about the, the rest of the cast because I don't want to sort of give anything away in terms of characters, but there are a lot of. If you were worried about loose ends, it will pay. It will pay dividends. And if you've. If you were a. I should have brought one out. If you were a Daredevil comic book fan, I think you'll be happy to see that it really does honor the source material. And it came from a number of different runs without being sort of a page by page adaptation. But I think there's also some, like little love letters thrown in. So if you're a comic book fan, you will get those too. But I think that the show itself is accessible. You don't have to have watched anything else. I mean, it's better if you would watch season one, obviously, and if you have the Netflix series under your belt. But you're not going to come out of this going, okay, what are the other 15 movies that I need to watch to understand this? Which if you try and sort of dip your toe into the MCU right now, you might have to do that. But if you are looking for great action sequences, I think it's some of the best the MCU has put on screen. Again, there's meaning to them. There's no sort of like, if you die here like you die here, there is no variance. There's no reincarnations, there's no rebirths, there's none of that. There is a legal drama. Part of it that is is really sort of a tour de force that takes place throughout the entire series and it might feel like a slow burn in parts. Please, I implore you. The entire season and the way this season ends is game changing. It's going to recontextualize the journey and it's going to have serious implications on what is ahead. In the entire Marvel Universe world. So you're not going to sort of get all those, like, you're not going to get some sort of weird, like, why is this character here all of a sudden? But it is going to. Is going to make sense and it is going to pay off. I am both thrilled that I got to see it all very early, but I'm also disappointed because now I have nothing else to watch. But I loved it so much and I don't get a lot of time really to watch tv. I want to go back and I want to take it in again. I want to take it in again and want to go back and capture some of the nuances that I'm sure that I missed the very first time. Daredevil Born Again Season two is, again, I think, some of the best that Marvel has put on screen. Now I want to hear from you. I'm going to go back. I need to put these on so I can go back and capture some of your comments. Let me see. Becky says, love the Kingpin laptar. I'm waiting for Jessica Jones, my favorite. I can't even say anything. How did I get that? I did Hannah. I did get screeners which were sent to me by Marvel Studios, which I am very grateful for. That does not happen without you, Hannah, and you, all of you. So thank you for that. It's not fair. You saw the whole thing. When is Jessica. I mean, it's. Well, we know this already, right? That's not a spoiler. Like, I'm not going to say it out loud because in case you haven't, but there are certain things that have already been revealed. When do we get to see Kingpin square off against Spider Man? Says Jeremy Chappelle. We're already seeing some characters, excuse me, show up in that Brand New Day trailer. I will not spoil anything that happens in Daredevil season two at all. But as I said earlier, and there's been a lot of sort of frame by frame breakdowns of the Spider Man Brand New Day trailer, I think a lot of folks are thinking or hoping that what we saw happen in the last Spider man movie is happening here, which is maybe some characters have been blurred out. Maybe they have, maybe they haven't. But if we get characters coming together and look, it makes sense. There's a scene in the Spider Man Brand New Day trailer where he is fighting the Hand. The Hand is initially a Daredevil and very much part of the original Netflix series. It's so good with Elektra and stick watching Spider man fight the hand. The logical question for comic book nerds or MCU nerds is where is Daredevil? I would not be surprised to see Daredevil show up in Brand New Day. My wife has ever watched any Daredevil, not the Netflix series. I haven't watched Born Again. Would she be good if we jumped in at Born Again? You can. I think that you can jump in at Born Again. I think you would really enjoy and I think you would understand the characters and the journey better if you go back and watch Netflix. And I know that there's like four seasons of it you can blow through, it is worth going back and watching. So I'd start with season one, which taught me I was concerned she'd be lost without revisiting Netflix. My wife has no interest in Daredevil and yet you stay married to her. Carlos, I'm kidding. Watching movie. She first season of Born Again really liked it. And that's what I think is accessible about Daredevil is you're not watching a superhero, superpower, cosmic universe type of typical, quote unquote superhero action movie. It feels like a legal drama. It feels like a crime drama. It is a character driven story. It's not about heroes and villains in a traditional sense fighting each other the way you would see in a typical quote unquote comic book movie. So Chris Flynn, I like Iron Fist needed season two to show the true potential of the character. So, Chris, I like the Iron Fist character. I love the Defenders coming together. I don't know that the actor that they chose was super strong. I'll give him some grace because I think the writing also was not awesome, especially in the first season of Iron Fist. I think in Defenders it gets better. But I would like to see them all come back again. So I'd like to see Marvel's season three of Marvel's Cloak and Dagger on Freeform. Stormy L. Yeah, Cloak and Dagger started off strong, Caleb. I think it unfortunately, like some of the other Marvel television stuff, I think it suffered from a number of different things. I think there was stuff going on sort of internally at Marvel, sort of with the TV stuff being so separate. I think there was a lot of look. I think the first couple of seasons of Agents of SHIELD Were fantastic. I think the Inhumans, you know, never really had a chance. So let me see, let me catch up a little bit. Daredevil or even Iron Fist has history with the Hand as well. Stan. I can neither confirm nor deny anything at all. My only advice to you is go and watch Daredevil born. Go watch Born Again season one. If you haven't watch season two and stick with it. Stick with it. I don't think you're going to have. I don't think you're going to end episode one and go, nah. Should I go on? I think you're going to want to go on. But I think all of these eight episodes are very, very, very strong. And I think that there is, in my opinion, I think the pendulum is swinging again quickly and strongly in Marvel's favor. It's not just with Daredevil. I thought Wonder man again subverted expectations in the best possible way. You watch Wonder man and you're like, where's Wonder Man? Where is. This is not a quote unquote typical comic book movie. But if you buy into it and you continue on, first of all, the cast is phenomenal. The dynamic between the two leads is exceptional. And then when you get to the end of that first season, because there is going to be a second season, it pays off. It pays dividends. You're like, I'm happy. Like, kudos for me for sticking with it. Not that you're going to have any, but if you're tuning into Wonder man thinking it is going to be like a high flying, action packed, super. It's not. It's not. It is a, it is a drama, is a little bit of a comedy. It is a little bit of a bromance. It's a little bit of a commentary on or a lot of a commentary on Hollywood. But there is such depth to these shows. And I think that's what I love and appreciate so much more about shows like Daredevil. And I think they're absolutely worth the investment of time. Not one for the kiddies, definitely for mature audiences, there is a certain level of violence or some graphic stuff that happens and. But that's not, it is not why you're watching. It's not definitely not why you're watching. So I cannot recommend Daredevil Born Again season two. Enough Hannah Bird. I enjoyed Wonder man more than recent Marvel. Susanna Armstrong says the same thing. I agree. I agree. I think, I think Wonder man and Daredevil, Born Again, I think. And I'm excited for Spider man, which I know is Sony, but it's still Marvel and it's still Spider Man. I'm excited for what is to come. And look, I think there is a lot riding on Doomsday this year. I think there's a lot riding on Doomsday. I think Marvel fans are starting to feel again the way maybe we haven't felt in a while because of certain things just didn't deliver. But that puts not just more excitement. I haven't been excited about a Marvel movie. I'm going to leave the Spider man stuff out because it's Sony. I've been excited about a Marvel movie like I am for Doomsday in a long, long, long time. With that, with great power comes great responsibility. There must also come great responsibility. That's the actual, actual, actual accurate quote. It's not. With great power comes great responsibility. With great power, there must also come great responsibility. Nerd. But there is that sort of pressure that is going to be on Doomsday and with what I think we've seen and with the Russo brothers and with the way they're already starting to hype it, I think it is absolutely going to pay off. Chandler says, so much content to watch. I need more hours in the day. Preach, brother. I am with you. I usually only get to watch TV like before I fall asleep at night, which is usually like 12:30, 1:00 clock because I'm bad at relaxing. And I'm like, if I'm awake enough to watch tv, I'm awake enough to keep on working. And so it takes me usually like months and months to months to watch a TV show. But Daredevil, I made sure my son was home, but I was like, listen, man, I gotta lock myself in a room because it's with screeners. I'm the only person allowed to watch it. And so I locked myself in my. In, in the room, in late at night. And I was watching Daredevil. I think the last episode I finished at like 2:30 in the morning in the dark on the couch. And I wanted to stand up and applaud. Like, that's how good I felt. Lisa says Wonder man was incredible in such a delightfully unexpected way. The chemistry between the two leads made the show absolutely agree, absolutely agree, 1,000%. And I think for a lot of people who were expecting a superhero show with heroes and villains fighting, what you did not sort of feel that absence of presence because of the relationship that was going on between the two leads. You didn't care that Wonder man was not every episode a character being in a costume doing superhero things. You loved that relationship that was going on. And again too, there were subtle and not so subtle Easter eggs in there that had wonderful callbacks to stuff we've seen in the past. And if you know what's coming, we're definitely setting up Things that we know we're going to see in the future. A lot of excitement for Doomsday as well as for Mando and Grogu. Man, you want to talk about that little, that little person has so much the weight of Star wars is hanging on poor little Grogu Grogu's shoulders because the Mandalorian and Grogu has to be nothing short of epic. So we will see what happens when that comes out later this year. Josh Barkley loved Wonder Man. The complete surprise. The show made me prefer the character Trevor over the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. Love the chemistry in the show. Watch Wonder man and then go back and watch Iron Man 3. You'll have a new appreciation not just for Trevor Slattery and for the Mandarin, but for the the Ben Kingsley's look. He didn't need the Mandarin to be recognized. He served Ben Kingsley as an incredible generational actor. But you really sort of get a sense of just how good he is when you watch Wonder man and then you go back and you see him again. He's also, I think he's in, I think he's in one of the Marvel one shots which you can still find on. I think there's a Mandarin one shot on Disney. It's a short five to seven minute sort of like mini episode that fills in some gaps here and there. So I definitely want to hear from you in the clubhouse or better yet, come on over to the spoiler support group if you want to talk about I'm trying to find my graphic. If you want to come and talk about Daredevil Born Again with spoilers, you can come over to the spoiler support group over on Facebook. Www.com spoilers you can talk about Marvel, Star Wars, Disney spoilers, theories, speculation, ideas, links, anything you want in a completely safe place so you don't have to worry about the Internet losing its mind if you spoil something for them. So that's it. Those are my thoughts about Daredevil Born Again Season two. And if you want to talk more Daredevil, I'm happy we can start a thread in the Spoiler sport group or in the clubhouse because I think he's such a rich, wonderful, deep character. And if you ever want to go back and read some of the comics I think I posted before some places to go ahead and get started. I should have had these at the ready, but I don't. But yeah, as you can see, I'm a. I love me some. I love me some Daredevil. So the only Daredevil I've seen is Ben Affleck. Heather, you need to, you need to go wash your eyes and cleanse your palate. The Daredevil, the Ben Affleck, Daredevil and Jennifer Garner movie is not good. It's not good. I went back and I watched it because I'm a completist and I hadn't seen it since, you know, it first came out. The acting is bad, the script is bad, the set decoration is bad, the costume is bad. It's just not. And it doesn't pay off anything. Even when he and Jennifer Garner are fighting. I don't mean like emotionally fighting in their like off screen relationship, but when they were, they were fighting in the playground. It felt overly comic booky. Not in a, oh, I feel like I'm watching a comic book because that's what into the Spider Verse does. I watched a comic book come to life on screen and that is a transformational into the spider verse beyond the spider verse. We've never seen anything like that before. That is a comic book coming to life. This was a bad. It's not good. Go back and watch. Go back and watch Netflix. The Netflix series season one through four, which is obviously on Disney plus now, it will make you want to go and watch Born Again. And then once you watch Born Again and the way season two picks up after season one is incredible. If I was only to get to Paris once. You could find out more and join the Nation family over at www.comsupport and now before we get to this week's question, let's go back, review last week's and select our winner. So last week we were talking about Disney Adventure World and we talked about how the lion King Land is coming and really be the first dedicated Lion King space in any Disney park around the world. But Disneyland Paris already has a Lion King themed show at its main park. Your question was to tell me simply what is it called? Thanks to everyone who entered got this one correct, including some of you who added some comments about your experience with the show. We are talking of course about the Lion King rhythms of the Pride Lands and it is one of my favorite Disney shows anywhere. Not just Disneyland Paris, but anywhere. Would we say Broadway quality in the parks or cruise line? This is what we mean. It is a spectacular almost, almost 360 degree theater show. There's acrobatics, choreography and the iconic songs from the 1994 film. I know we've talked about this more in depth on our sort of review of Disneyland Paris in the past, but it is spectacular. Anyway, I took all the correct entries, randomly selected one, and last week you were playing for a WW keychain stickers pin, a brand new WW embroidered patch, and a mystery prize that I brought back just for you from Disneyland Paris. And last week's winner randomly selected is Jack Hillary. So Jack, congratulations. I will get your prize package out to you right away. And of course, if you played last week and didn't win, that's okay because here's your next chance to enter in this week's Disney Trivia challenge. So we're obviously talking about Daredevil this week, specifically the Marvel Studios and Disney plus version again that they acquired over from Netflix. Not The Ben Affleck 2003 film which was kind of a mess. It started at 20th Century Fox, then went to Columbia Pictures, then went over to New Regency. And while we have seen Daredevil not just on his own show on Netflix and now Disney plus, but cameoing on she Hulk as well as an echo. While there is some speculation and admitted hope that we will see Daredevil on the big screen as well, it wouldn't be the first time that Daredevil made his appearance in a Marvel movie. So your question this week is to tell me in which Marvel movie did Charlie Cox make his surprise return as Matt Murdock before Daredevil Born Again Season two. So in what Marvel movie have we seen Charlie Cox portraying Matt Murdock before we hopefully see him again in an MCU film? You have until Sunday, April 5th. Happy Easter. At 11:59pm Eastern to go to www.radio.com click on this week's podcast. Again, I'm going to play for the keychain, the stickers the pin, the patch, and of course a mystery prize. And don't forget to tune in to Daredevil episodes 2 and 3 release on March 31st. Episodes 4, 5, 6 and 7 will release every Tuesday after from the 7th through the 28th, and the episode 8 series finale will be on May 1st 5th, 2026. Enjoy. Come over to the Clubhouse or the Spoiler support group to talk more. So good luck and have fun. That's going to do it for this week's show. Elizabeth (Listener Voicemail)

Hi everyone, it's Elizabeth from Massachusetts. It's been a while. I am kind of behind with all my podcasts listening to but anyway I just listened to the episode 8:57. You haven't looked up now the top 10 extinct experiences at the world and honestly fast Fast came to my mind first and you both mentioned that. But something that also came to mind was when you used to book your resort day and you would get that package sent to your house and like with the DVD and stuff or at least When I was growing up, it was a dvd and, like, I kind of miss that. Like, that little thing in the mail to get you excited for your upcoming trip. And, like, I know they send emails and reminders to help, but there is just something that's nice and tangible. Lou, I think you said it in the episode about, like, sometimes the magic is, I don't know, a little bit more special than the efficiency. And I get that that was probably not a money waster, but took time and effort and, yeah, sending an email so much faster. But I miss it. And it was just like to get like, almost like a little letter from your home away from home. And then secondly, it did pop in my head and I saw my experience, something about the way the park shoots operate that I miss. And it's not that part. Okay? And I'm not imagining this because the other day I found it a picture of it. But they used to be open so much later than they are now and for, like, extra magic hours if you were staying on property. And I. I found a photo of myself recently where I'm at the park in magic kingdom at 3:07. Like, I'm standing by the clock on Main street, pointing at the clock. And, like, I remember the park just being open, like, way more late because of. I don't even know why, but it was nice that, like, if you were willing to stay up and, like, kind of just, you know, push through, you could. And you could get all the experiences in. I really go commando style. So I do just miss that because it would be nice to almost, like, plan your trip around, like, oh, being out really late one day and then sleeping in the next morning instead of, like, rope dropping every day or whatever. But I feel like in my soul, it was Covid that maybe like, switched that over because now you get it. But it's the extra magic hours are just not as expensive as they used to be. So I guess not an experience, but more of just like a logistical thing that I do kind of miss. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great start of the year again. I haven't called in and now this message is going on forever. But I hope everyone is just having a great life and I'm excited for springtime surprise run Disney weekend coming up. So anyone that's training for that, getting ready for that, gonna be great. Talk to y' all real soon.
