Dennis Trufen

So in today's episode we are going to be talking about why long tail keywords matter, the tools and techniques for keyword research.

Dennis Trufen

We're also going to be talking about evaluating keyword potential and then implementing keywords effectively.

Host

Welcome to the YouTube Passive Income show where we talk about transforming your Life, ditching the 9 to 5 grind and creating freedom in your time, money and work with the power of YouTube.

Host

You and now your host, Dennis Trufin.

Dennis Trufen

Before we get into today's episode, one little quick tip.

Dennis Trufen

If you are somebody like myself who loves to create content, back to back to back water is always great to have on on hand as well as, well at least for me.

Dennis Trufen

No sugar like lollipops or some kind of like sucker or something like that.

Dennis Trufen

Ideally low sugar or no sugar.

Dennis Trufen

I just got done with recording a podcast episode as well right before this one where I was actually Talking about my YouTube journey of hitting a hundred thousand subscribers and kind of my experience from beginning to now.

Dennis Trufen

So you should definitely go listen to that episode.

Dennis Trufen

But if I sound a little bit horsed in today's episode it's, it's honestly why?

Dennis Trufen

Cuz I'm just recording these back to back which is always something I talk about in some of the tips about, you know, recording which is like kind of doing things in batches.

Dennis Trufen

Right.

Dennis Trufen

So just an added tip to if you're going to be batch recording, have some water bio and some, some candy or something to, to help with that because yeah, it's a lot of talking sometimes and I mean I love talking definitely which is why I have this podcast.

Dennis Trufen

But it could definitely get to you as well too.

Dennis Trufen

So anyways, I don't want to keep us here too long.

Dennis Trufen

Let's get into today's episode and let's get started.

Dennis Trufen

All right.

Dennis Trufen

The Power of Long tail keywords, a YouTube SEO masterclass.

Dennis Trufen

Again, I came up with that title and it's.

Dennis Trufen

That's quite a long one and a mouthful there.

Dennis Trufen

I actually I stumbled a Little bit earlier too about it, which is, which is always great.

Dennis Trufen

So let's talk about why long tail keywords matter.

Dennis Trufen

Right?

Dennis Trufen

So there's a difference between trending keywords and evergreen keywords and keywords.

Dennis Trufen

What I mean by that is like essentially your, your main phrase of what you're trying to get across to, to help people find your content.

Dennis Trufen

So when we talk about like trending versus evergreen, I can give you just a quick example.

Dennis Trufen

Something evergreen could be like, what is amortization when it comes to like mortgages?

Dennis Trufen

That doesn't change.

Dennis Trufen

That is kind of always going to be the case.

Dennis Trufen

But then something trending could be like, I'm trying to think in finance right now, but like just in general, something that, you know, a lot of other content creators might be all doing at the same time or might be hip at the, at the moment.

Dennis Trufen

And I say hip feel really old in that like, moment.

Dennis Trufen

I remember when I was doing my journey on YouTube early on, frugality was like kind of like the hip thing for a while.

Dennis Trufen

And so if you did anything with the word frugal in the title, that was kind of like a trending word.

Dennis Trufen

Now frugality is still a thing.

Dennis Trufen

People still do it.

Dennis Trufen

But the way we were kind of aiming at that was like really virality at the moment.

Dennis Trufen

I wouldn't do that today, but back then I obviously didn't know much better and I wasn't kind of intending to try to do evergreen versus, you know, trending.

Dennis Trufen

But like thinking about that, you could definitely do, you know, evergreen with frugality.

Dennis Trufen

Just at the moment, it was like the hot commodity.

Dennis Trufen

So sometimes people would just throw the word frugal in there even if the content didn't really, you know, call for it.

Dennis Trufen

So, so there's differences.

Dennis Trufen

We want to make sure that if we are especially here, we talk about, you know, passive income and like wanting to get evergreen content.

Dennis Trufen

We tend to want to focus on long tail evergreen keywords because we want to focus on getting views, you know, weeks and months and years down the road, not just what's on, what's on the menu today in popularity.

Dennis Trufen

So for, for that, that's just something to consider, you know, and it could be really hard for a lot of people because they feel like they're missing out, especially with like the way we teach here.

Dennis Trufen

Sometimes, like when people release videos and it's like this video only gets a couple of views early on and then it grows versus getting all the views up front, it can be really jarring for a lot of people.

Dennis Trufen

But I would say based off of my research, based off of my experience, the data, I'm always going to choose doing evergreen versus doing viral or trending.

Dennis Trufen

And there's times where, like, the trending can play in your favor as well, too.

Dennis Trufen

But just something to really consider when it comes to going through this process.

Dennis Trufen

We want to, we want to aim for evergreen things that, that will be relevant regardless of when the person watches.

Dennis Trufen

Not just because it's the hot commodity at the time, not because, you know, some celebrity said something.

Dennis Trufen

And now all of a sudden everybody wants to learn how to crochet or learn how to make sourdough bread in, in that moment, right?

Dennis Trufen

Like, that's not going to be important.

Dennis Trufen

But what can be important is the people that want to learn how to crochet or make, you know, sourdough bread, regardless of who's talking about it, because they're just interested in that topic that's going to be more evergreen keywords.

Dennis Trufen

So now there's the benefits of targeting these, these larger evergreen keywords is that there's a consistent viewership that we're getting.

Dennis Trufen

And I, I talk about this all the time, that when we are making videos, we want to get the right viewer to the right video.

Dennis Trufen

And the way to do that is by targeting your keywords specifically for, for those views.

Dennis Trufen

And so when we talk about, like actually creating these, these keywords, we want to think about how we're actually going to be benefiting the audience member.

Dennis Trufen

Because we don't want to be too generic with our keywords.

Dennis Trufen

We want to be pretty specific and we want to gather the right people.

Dennis Trufen

Because if we're trying to do something that's, let's say, for beginners in a certain topic, but we're putting in our keywords that maybe indicate that it could be a little bit more advanced.

Dennis Trufen

Well, those people that get in, that are advanced maybe don't want to be in that video.

Dennis Trufen

And so they, they leave.

Dennis Trufen

Or if you're trying to do something a little bit more intermediate level, but you are kind of titling the keyword that indicates that beginners might be available to join in.

Dennis Trufen

You might alienate them by making them feel like they are not ready for this yet because that's maybe not the video they need to go to.

Dennis Trufen

So we want to make sure that we are aiming for the right audience member to be there, because when we do that, the retention stays, the retention stays higher based off that person wanting to sit around and actually watch that as well, too.

Dennis Trufen

So thinking about that, right.

Dennis Trufen

I Just made some videos around a financial app called Rocket Money.

Dennis Trufen

And what I did was I, I looked at everything that people run into problems with on that app.

Dennis Trufen

And then I asked myself, okay, if I were this person, how would I be looking for these words?

Dennis Trufen

And I'm gonna actually bring this up here in real time so you might hear some of my clicks here so I can actually go look at this.

Dennis Trufen

So I have a couple different videos.

Dennis Trufen

I, I know that people really wanna know how to create a budget on this app.

Dennis Trufen

So it's not just how to use Rocket Money, but they wanted to learn how to make a budget on Rocket Money.

Dennis Trufen

And that becomes really specific about that app and that functionality within that app.

Dennis Trufen

Then I also noticed a lot of people want to know how to link up their bank account.

Dennis Trufen

They want to understand how do I link my bank to Rocket Money.

Dennis Trufen

So I've been, I made a video very specifically how to link your bank to Rocket Money.

Dennis Trufen

Right.

Dennis Trufen

So it's not just saying how to link something, how to link to Rocket Money.

Dennis Trufen

I'm really being specific that it's a bank because that's what people are searching for.

Dennis Trufen

Now, some apps, maybe it's like how to link your bank account or how to link your debit card or how to link your credit card or how to link X, Y, Z.

Dennis Trufen

And we want to be very specific because that's who we're targeting.

Dennis Trufen

I'm not targeting, I'm not targeting anybody that needs to add their credit card to rack up money.

Dennis Trufen

I just want the people who want to know how to add their bank.

Dennis Trufen

Now I could also make a specific video about the credit card process too.

Dennis Trufen

They're very similar steps.

Dennis Trufen

But what's really cool is making both of those obviously adds additional content for you, but also it gets very specific for each person individually so they feel like they're being catered to directly.

Dennis Trufen

And then I also made how to cancel Rocket Money because they do have a subscription.

Dennis Trufen

So people sometimes want to know how to cancel that subscription.

Dennis Trufen

So I take them through those steps.

Dennis Trufen

So those keywords right there on how to do a specific thing is evergreen for that particular app because I'm being very targeted towards that.

Dennis Trufen

Now, something that would be trending, let's say, with Rocket Money as an example, let's say they have like a promotion to get half off or they have a scam that's going on or a new feature possibly.

Dennis Trufen

Right.

Dennis Trufen

Those would be more like on the trending side of things.

Dennis Trufen

Because if it's not gonna probably exist for a long time Right.

Dennis Trufen

If there's a sale, it's not gonna go on forever.

Dennis Trufen

If it's a scam, maybe it's gonna be just a temporary thing and then it dies off.

Dennis Trufen

And then, you know, any, anything else like that, it's just gonna be timely rather than timeless.

Dennis Trufen

And so that's how we kind of wanna look at those things now.

Dennis Trufen

Now there's tools and techniques for, for keyword research.

Dennis Trufen

And we have some videos or, sorry, some podcast episodes here where we go into even more depth with SEO.

Dennis Trufen

So I do encourage you after this to go listen to those.

Dennis Trufen

You're going to hear some reiterations, but that's good.

Dennis Trufen

You want to hear redundancy in some of your learnings here because that's how you're going to remember how to do some of this stuff.

Dennis Trufen

Maybe you try it and forget it and then you try it again and then you get better at it.

Dennis Trufen

So one of the ways to actually find a keyword is YouTube search bar itself, or even the Google search bar already.

Dennis Trufen

Like, those things are just so powerful, it's ridiculous.

Dennis Trufen

So you, you'll notice that when you start typing something into the YouTube search bar or the Google search bar, it's going to start populating some words for you after you start typing something in.

Dennis Trufen

And th.

Dennis Trufen

Those are keywords right there.

Dennis Trufen

Those are things that people are looking for.

Dennis Trufen

And so then you really want to kind of hone in on that and have a good understanding.

Dennis Trufen

So if you type in how to.

Dennis Trufen

And then, you know, start typing in more, it's going to start filling in those blanks for you.

Dennis Trufen

There's a couple different techniques that you can do if you want to.

Dennis Trufen

You can do an underscore space after certain words so you can have a better understanding of what people are looking for in the middle of a sentence.

Dennis Trufen

So if I'm trying to figure out, going back to my example of rocket money, I might not know exactly what people's issues are with that app in particular in the moment.

Dennis Trufen

So I can say how to and then put in underscore spaces in between that on rocket Money.

Dennis Trufen

So it's how to essentially blank on rocket money.

Dennis Trufen

But the underscore gives the opportunity for YouTube to fill in that blank.

Dennis Trufen

And when it fills in that blank, it tells me the things that I made videos for, which was how to cancel rocket money, how to link your bank to rocket money, how to create a budget on rocket money.

Dennis Trufen

And that underscore gave me those blank, like fill in the blanks because I put that in there.

Dennis Trufen

But you could Also do it just in general.

Dennis Trufen

You can say rocket money tutorial for linking a bank account or rocket money tutorial for canceling membership.

Dennis Trufen

Whatever comes in afterwards, you'll see that show up in the list.

Dennis Trufen

And that list is important, whatever on the top.

Dennis Trufen

And that's what people are looking for.

Dennis Trufen

Now sometimes you gotta get a little bit more specific, right?

Dennis Trufen

If someone's like wanting to, to go in deeper, you can typically do that.

Dennis Trufen

And the deeper you go into being specific about how you're teaching or helping somebody in like this space, the better you're gonna have the chances to grow long term.

Dennis Trufen

Because when you think about, I was doing a little bit of research for another podcast episode and there's like, you know, let's, let's just go with like healthy tips, for example.

Dennis Trufen

So if you said like healthy eating tips, you know, is, is so generic and so broad, you're gonna, you're trying to cast a wide net and you get nothing.

Dennis Trufen

But you can see that when you type in like healthy, like healthy living tips.

Dennis Trufen

Right?

Dennis Trufen

Something like that.

Dennis Trufen

It could say like, for teenagers, for college students, for young adults.

Dennis Trufen

And like, even if the college student tips and the young adult tips are the same, you're aiming for a particular audience that might want that particular video to get relevance from because they might not feel like any of the other videos are going to be for them, except for the one that says for young adults or for, you know, college students or whatever the case, you're going to be adding into that end piece there too.

Dennis Trufen

So use YouTube as, as a tool itself to help you figure out what's going to be helpful.

Dennis Trufen

Also, YouTube does have an inspiration tab that they're constantly updating on and they're using AI now to kind of help you curate content.

Dennis Trufen

So the more videos you have on your channel, and we talk about this in other episodes, is that YouTube's going to understand you better, especially when you stay consistent on a topic, because now they're going to be able to kind of almost curate content for you based off of the needs of the audience.

Dennis Trufen

They were like, I.

Dennis Trufen

I've actually made a couple of videos already where, based off of my content, I have a thousand plus videos on here.

Dennis Trufen

And YouTube was like, hey, if you make this video, we're pretty certain that your audience is gonna need this, so make it.

Dennis Trufen

And I tried it and I made a video.

Dennis Trufen

It was about the Apple Wallet.

Dennis Trufen

I've made em before and.

Dennis Trufen

But this particular version of it is what Apple was saying or what YouTube was saying.

Dennis Trufen

Apple users needed support with.

Dennis Trufen

And when I made that video, that video did very well, actually did better than typical videos do because it, it was exactly what YouTube knew the audience needed.

Dennis Trufen

So very powerful tool.

Dennis Trufen

Another tool we Talk about is TubeBuddy.

Dennis Trufen

They have an SEO feature very similar to like what we were just talking about, but a little bit more in depth.

Dennis Trufen

It gives you a little bit more stats as well, which I'm a huge stats and analytics person.

Dennis Trufen

So TubeBuddy gives you this indicator of like, how many people are searching that keyword and how many people are, you know, how many videos exist for that keyword.

Dennis Trufen

So it gives you an idea to, you know, know what you're trying to target.

Dennis Trufen

And one thing I do want to say if you are going to use that tool, one, we have a link in the show notes gets us a nice way to continue to support us here, but also gives you a nice discount.

Dennis Trufen

But the other big thing about TubeBuddy is if you see a video that doesn't have a lot of videos that are in that keyword, but maybe don't have a large search volume, still consider making it.

Dennis Trufen

Because if nobody's making the videos and you're the only one making a video for it, because nobody wants to make it, since 10 people a month watch that video, or a hundred people search for that key term, you're going to get most of those views.

Dennis Trufen

And that's like a, to me, that's like a chef's kiss.

Dennis Trufen

That's like, it's a brilliant way a place to be.

Dennis Trufen

Because, yeah, sure, you can try to compete with everybody on the most common search terms that everyone's looking for.

Dennis Trufen

But if there's a hundred people searching for a certain keyword every month and nobody's making content for them, be that person for them.

Dennis Trufen

And I promise you, if you were making 10 videos like that, and every month those 10 videos get a hundred views, you're going to start seeing big momentum in your favor.

Dennis Trufen

And that's going to play out for a lot of other features and benefits for, for your channel as a whole.

Dennis Trufen

And then the other things you can do are Google trends.

Dennis Trufen

So if you go to Google's trending page, they kind of have like a little filter system as well.

Dennis Trufen

You can go by genres, you can go by YouTube or Google, which, by the way, if things are trending on Google, you can still make them, even if it's not trending on YouTube, because Google will recommend YouTube videos in their search.

Dennis Trufen

And then the other thing you could do is competitors.

Dennis Trufen

You can actually look at other competiting YouTube channels and see.

Dennis Trufen

Or even blog posts and see what people are doing in real time and don't copy, but use that as a tool.

Dennis Trufen

With YouTubers, what I like to do is depending on any of the YouTube channels I run, I'll find my competitors.

Dennis Trufen

I usually know who they are.

Dennis Trufen

I have them saved and whatnot.

Dennis Trufen

And I'll go to their channels or I'll go and do searches, and I'll look for channels that have a higher view count than subscriber count on a video.

Dennis Trufen

And what I mean by that is, let's say there's a YouTube channel that has 5,000 subscribers, and they have a video that's 20,000 views.

Dennis Trufen

That's like a lopsided figure there.

Dennis Trufen

So what that tells me is the video that that channel produced, even if it's a smaller channel, is bringing immense value to an audience.

Dennis Trufen

And I want to.

Dennis Trufen

I want to kind of hit on that nail as well, too.

Dennis Trufen

So then I look at, you know, the video and try to make it my own and create, you know, something that will resonate with my audience in a way based off of how popular that video was compared to their subscriber count.

Dennis Trufen

Because if I go to a video and it has, let's say, 50,000 views, but the channel has 2 million subscribers, that's not really telling me much.

Dennis Trufen

But again, 5,000 subscribers with 20,000 views or, you know, 50,000 views, that's telling me a lot.

Dennis Trufen

And that there's a demand for that information as well.

Dennis Trufen

So next up here is going to be evaluating keyword potentials.

Dennis Trufen

And this is kind of a little bit what we talked about earlier today, which was search volume versus competition, you know, trying to find a balance.

Dennis Trufen

I think a lot of times we just get so hungry for trying to compete against the most common searches, and when we do that, it's so hard to rank.

Dennis Trufen

And when it's hard to rank, it takes a lot longer than it already does.

Dennis Trufen

Like we talk about here on the channel, that it could take three to six months to start really getting into the YouTube algorithm to, like, get ranked high.

Dennis Trufen

So when you're competing against keywords that everybody else is competing against, you're not doing yourself a lot of favors.

Dennis Trufen

But again, if you're making videos that not a lot of people make or they're not as popular in the context of, like, the keyword, then you are gonna have a bigger advantage to get ranked higher, faster.

Dennis Trufen

And so you're gonna start generating those views.

Dennis Trufen

You're gonna start generating loyalty or trust.

Dennis Trufen

I would More likely, say, towards your content.

Dennis Trufen

And what I really mean by this is I truly believe, and there's no data to, like, actually prove this, but I truly believe that in YouTube's algorithm, if I served an audience member that needed help and nobody else was helping them, and I made the one video that exists, or at least the one good video that exists about that topic or that tutorial, that that person watches the video and gets so much immense value, right?

Dennis Trufen

They like the video.

Dennis Trufen

Maybe they didn't subscribe, who cares, doesn't matter.

Dennis Trufen

But they liked the video.

Dennis Trufen

They stayed around throughout the entire video, and I helped them.

Dennis Trufen

They went home, they did their thing, they problem solved.

Dennis Trufen

If months later they are wanting some more help on something financial and they type something in the.

Dennis Trufen

Even if it's a really competitive keyword, the likelihood I believe that my videos will pop up in rank for them, particularly higher than anybody else, is there because YouTube says, hey, this person's looking for something financial.

Dennis Trufen

Last time we show them Dennis's video, they were helped.

Dennis Trufen

They loved it.

Dennis Trufen

Let's show them the next thing that Dennis has that's in this field.

Dennis Trufen

So if it's a very competitive keyword, I'm going to rank higher than I would have if that person had never seen me before.

Dennis Trufen

Which means that I'm going to get ranked better in the harder things to rank for because I'm helping the people out in the things that nobody else wants to make.

Dennis Trufen

So I.

Dennis Trufen

It's a long game, but that's kind of what passive income has always been about.

Dennis Trufen

Whether it's here on YouTube or real estate or any other form of passive income, you gotta do the legwork upfront to get that valuable, like, not needing to work kind of, you know, impact.

Dennis Trufen

And so I truly believe that.

Dennis Trufen

I truly believe that me making this small, how to do tiny things, how to do the most basic of something, really gives me the leg up when I do produce the things that are so much harder to compete against, but yet I'm the one that's getting those views because people trust me.

Dennis Trufen

I have a name to me.

Dennis Trufen

YouTube understands me better, and so they will rank me higher for those people as well.

Dennis Trufen

So, you know, if there's anything to take away, it's probably this part of it.

Dennis Trufen

It's, it's this, it's.

Dennis Trufen

It's what I think is gonna be the best.

Dennis Trufen

But sticking with evaluating your keywords is the relevance of the keyword and what you're trying to produce to the overall channel that you have.

Dennis Trufen

We talk about how Niching down is so important because when you niche down, what it really does for you is, is actually gives you authority in your space.

Dennis Trufen

And when you have authority in your space, like you are going to have people coming back to you intentionally or Even unintentionally because YouTube is just going to send them back to you.

Dennis Trufen

So be relevant in your space or, sorry, make the keywords relevant for your space that you're in.

Dennis Trufen

Don't try to reach overreach by bringing people in that don't belong to that video.

Dennis Trufen

Be really relevant to what you're talking about.

Dennis Trufen

I talk about personal finance on one channel, and that's all I talk about.

Dennis Trufen

If I want to go beyond that, I either make a new channel or just don't do, do it because it's not worth breaking the mold of what.

Dennis Trufen

What works so well on the platform and what works well for the channel is, is sticking to one niche overall.

Dennis Trufen

So the other thing we want to talk about when it comes to keywords is the, the viewer's goal behind what they're searching, right?

Dennis Trufen

And that's why we love passive evergreen content, is because it's an intent that people have.

Dennis Trufen

When people are searching for something, they have an intent.

Dennis Trufen

You know, whether it's like Instagram reels and stuff.

Dennis Trufen

Like when people go watch those videos, it's not an intent.

Dennis Trufen

They're just wanting to be entertained for the most part, right?

Dennis Trufen

Sometimes they'll learn things and because they're scrolling through, but with YouTube, they're typing things in intentionally to learn.

Dennis Trufen

And when they do that, they have such a big intent that when they watch a video that actually answers their questions, they're gonna stick around a long time.

Dennis Trufen

That's gonna have a huge impact for them.

Dennis Trufen

So when you're thinking about a keyword, you're thinking about the person on the other end.

Dennis Trufen

Like, realistically, you're thinking about another person that's going to be looking for that particular thing because they have a problem with it, because they can't solve it, because you're the one that has an answer to it.

Dennis Trufen

And so you want to be understanding that when you have these keywords, the goal is to help the person who's looking for that, that problem to be solved, and you're the one that's answering it for them based off of this keyword.

Dennis Trufen

Now, the next section here is implementing keywords effectively, right?

Dennis Trufen

So the, the first area that the keywords go into is, is the title.

Dennis Trufen

Now the, the biggest thing we want to think about with the title, it depends on every Channel and it's gonna be different.

Dennis Trufen

I like to be very just straightforward.

Dennis Trufen

I don't like to glamorize a lot of it.

Dennis Trufen

Sure some people might be searching for something and want to find the glamour in it, but I'm, I'm just very straightforward.

Dennis Trufen

Right.

Dennis Trufen

I showed you or I, I, I mentioned earlier with the Rocket money, right?

Dennis Trufen

I talked about how to link your bank, bank to rocket money.

Dennis Trufen

I didn't say how to link your bank to rocket money.

Dennis Trufen

Like fast and easy and crazy easy simple.

Dennis Trufen

Like I didn't add a whole bunch of stuff to it.

Dennis Trufen

Sometimes I'll do, I do add the word like simple or quick, but I don't try to like over glamorize it.

Dennis Trufen

Like you'll never believe how to add your bank account to rocket money.

Dennis Trufen

Like that just wouldn't vibe with what we're trying to do here, you know that that just doesn't work.

Dennis Trufen

Like you won't believe how to cancel your, you know, Rocket Money subscription.

Dennis Trufen

Like that doesn't play well in the, in the search based place.

Dennis Trufen

So with, with implementing your keywords, your title is very important and ideally you want to keep your keywords towards the front half.

Dennis Trufen

So if you are going to do like a guide, right, you don't want to say Beginner's guide to Rocket Money.

Dennis Trufen

You know, we'd want to say, you know, what did I put for mine?

Dennis Trufen

It's how to use Rocket Money Beginner's Guide 2025 as my example, right?

Dennis Trufen

So I have how to use Rocket Money because that's what people are inquiring and I'm letting them know that this is a beginner's guide.

Dennis Trufen

So if they're intermediate, this is not for them.

Dennis Trufen

They shouldn't come to this video.

Dennis Trufen

Now if I did make an intermediate video, I would have intermediate guide 2025 or something like that.

Dennis Trufen

So I can let people know, hey, if you're a beginner, do not come to this video because if you click on this you're not going to get what you want.

Dennis Trufen

And I, and I actually want to keep people away from a video if it's not intended for them because it's going to hurt my retention.

Dennis Trufen

So making sure that the title is optimized to the point where you're getting your point across without trying to be glamorous, at least not in the SEO search based type of stuff.

Dennis Trufen

Like if you want to try to go viral or go on the homepages of stuff, sure do that.

Dennis Trufen

But like hear what we're talking about and how you want to approach it.

Dennis Trufen

We want to.

Dennis Trufen

We want to go to the point that we're straightforward with people.

Dennis Trufen

We're not trying to, like, say one thing and then do another thing in the video.

Dennis Trufen

It's like, hey, I'm going to show you how to do this one thing and I'm going to deliver it for you.

Dennis Trufen

Like, I am delivering exactly what I'm saying.

Dennis Trufen

And the same is going to be true for the description.

Dennis Trufen

If you want to add, you know, some things in the description, you can maybe word it a little bit different, right?

Dennis Trufen

So like, if we go back to, like, how to Use Rocket Money Beginner's Guide, sometimes I'll just take the title and reiterate it again, but in a different way.

Dennis Trufen

Like, you know, you could say something like, struggling to use rocket money.

Dennis Trufen

Learn how to use it properly.

Dennis Trufen

Or you.

Dennis Trufen

You could say, learn how to use rocket money properly in this, you know, beginner's guide tutorial.

Dennis Trufen

Like, that could be the description.

Dennis Trufen

I've seen some people do a large description of, like, what they have in their videos.

Dennis Trufen

I keep my descriptions, like one sentence long because I'd rather start adding my links in for affiliates or products or, you know, sending them to another video because all the extra text is not gonna really benefit.

Dennis Trufen

Right?

Dennis Trufen

So, like, I'll have.

Dennis Trufen

Let me go actually to the top of that one.

Dennis Trufen

So for mine, it's, you know, how to Use Rocket Money for beginners.

Dennis Trufen

And then from there I say, learn how to make a budget on rocket money five minutes.

Dennis Trufen

And then have a link to my next video in my description.

Dennis Trufen

So, like, yes, I reiterated my title, but then I also said, hey, there's more Rocket Money lessons to be learned after this Beginner's Guide.

Dennis Trufen

Here's the next video.

Dennis Trufen

So I have it linked up at the very top so people can see it while they're watching the video if they want to click on the next video.

Dennis Trufen

So just kind of things to think about.

Dennis Trufen

Then there's also, of course, the.

Dennis Trufen

The thumbnail.

Dennis Trufen

I think with the thumbnail.

Dennis Trufen

This is really important that for.

Dennis Trufen

For me, what I've found the best, and I've done a lot of thumbnails and a lot of testing on this is I don't try to glamorize the thumbnail either.

Dennis Trufen

Now sometimes I'll change up the wording a little bit or add just like three or four words on there.

Dennis Trufen

But every YouTuber and every audience is gonna be so different.

Dennis Trufen

So please test things out.

Dennis Trufen

But, like, look at your data to see what works best.

Dennis Trufen

I don't like telling people that this thumbnail or that thumbnail is the way to go unless I see the data from their back end.

Dennis Trufen

But what I like to do is I just keep it super simple.

Dennis Trufen

So my rocket, like how to use Rocket Money Beginner's Guide as an example, on the thumbnail, it just says Beginner's Guide and then the year and that's it.

Dennis Trufen

And the logo.

Dennis Trufen

I don't try to, like, make it, like, snazzy.

Dennis Trufen

I don't try to be like, everything you need to know about Rocket Money on the title or something like that or on the thumbnail, I should say.

Dennis Trufen

So I try to keep it simple to what the title was.

Dennis Trufen

Sometimes I'll reiterate it.

Dennis Trufen

I know a lot of people say, don't rewrite the same thing, but look, if the person typed it in, they're looking for something very specific.

Dennis Trufen

I'm not trying to glamorize anything.

Dennis Trufen

So I keep it simple.

Dennis Trufen

But I look at my data to tell me that that's the case.

Dennis Trufen

And I've.

Dennis Trufen

I've tested it out before where I've put no text on the screen for the thumbnails.

Dennis Trufen

And there's been times where I put too much wording.

Dennis Trufen

But what I find works best for my channel has been about like three to five words at most.

Dennis Trufen

An image from the brand, if I can, or an emoji, and then just like a screenshot or something like that as well, too.

Dennis Trufen

Obviously, if you're like a cooking channel, the food, if you are, you know, a knitting channel, the item that you're knitting or the tools you're using or, you know, anything else that's representative of what you're trying to teach people or show people in the thumbnails.

Dennis Trufen

Then there's also.

Dennis Trufen

This is like a little one for me, too.

Dennis Trufen

But I think it's important is I always reiterate what the title is going to be or the keyword, I should say, because it is kind of the same thing.

Dennis Trufen

But the title, slash, keyword in the early part of my video.

Dennis Trufen

So if the video is how to use Rocket Money Beginner's Guide, my video would sound something like this at the beginning.

Dennis Trufen

So today I'm going to show you how to use Rocket Money Beginner Guide or something in that context.

Dennis Trufen

Right?

Dennis Trufen

Because what happens is YouTube can transcribe the video.

Dennis Trufen

So if you say at the beginning of your video, today we're going to learn how to use Rocket Money, it's also grabbing that as a piece of the puzzle when it comes to the Keyword.

Dennis Trufen

And then lastly on this part, we want to make sure that the tags.

Dennis Trufen

I know some people say the tags are not important.

Dennis Trufen

I still love tags.

Dennis Trufen

Tags are when you're uploading the video, it's towards the bottom and I think it's a misnomer here.

Dennis Trufen

But when people say it's not important, I don't think it's important when it comes to trying to go viral or go big on, like the home screen.

Dennis Trufen

But when it comes to search, I think it's so key because what happens is I want to put in different ways that people might be searching for this particular video to get to the same place.

Dennis Trufen

So if somebody's looking for, like, if I'm going to go to how to Use Rocket Money, I'm going to actually go look at my tags really, really quick.

Dennis Trufen

So there have, like in my tags here, I, I have put in there how to use Rocket Money for free.

Dennis Trufen

Because actually a lot of things we talk about in there are, are the free version how to use Rocket Money for Beginners.

Dennis Trufen

So it's not actually says that in the title because it says Beginner's Guide, but it doesn't say that as an exact thing.

Dennis Trufen

So in case somebody's looking for that, particularly, it's there.

Dennis Trufen

I have how to use Rocket Money effectively.

Dennis Trufen

Right?

Dennis Trufen

Because that's essentially what we're doing.

Dennis Trufen

The Beginner's Guide is I want somebody to know how to use this app properly.

Dennis Trufen

So I, I put that in there because that's what people are looking for.

Dennis Trufen

They have a tag here searching, should you use Rocket Money?

Dennis Trufen

Right.

Dennis Trufen

So they're questioning if it's a good app.

Dennis Trufen

So the Beginner's Guide, I go over the basics of how the app works, the functionalities, the features, everything about it.

Dennis Trufen

So it really aligns with it.

Dennis Trufen

And then the biggest part that we want to realize, though, is I don't want to put tags in here that would disqualify the person if they came to the video and were kind of almost misled, right?

Dennis Trufen

Because if I said how to Use Rocket Money completely free as the title, but the things I talked about in the video are actually the paid versions of that fe of those features, I'm disqualifying the person by putting that tag in there.

Dennis Trufen

But if that's actually what I did in the video, but I didn't have it in the title, that's why that tag matters, because maybe I didn't need to write in that it was a free vert.

Dennis Trufen

Like, I'm talking about all the free features, but because I still am having that in the title or sorry, having that in the tags would be a really relevant thing to have.

Dennis Trufen

So that way those people who are searching that keyword would still come to this video.

Dennis Trufen

So I'm almost like, I'm almost having like multiple roads come to this main keyword because you could be looking at it from three different directions to get to the same spot.

Dennis Trufen

And I did mention earlier that I had like how to cancel rocket money and like how to cancel things.

Dennis Trufen

I usually have a couple different phrases, but like a lot of people say how to cancel rocket money or can I cancel rocket money or does it cost me to cancel rocket money?

Dennis Trufen

You know, those kind of phrases I look at.

Dennis Trufen

So that way I can draw those people in because it's effectively all the same thing on how to go through that process to cancel that subscription with that particular app.

Dennis Trufen

So for, for everything we talked about today, you know, we want to make sure we understand, you know, long tail keywords matter because we are being so intentional with the videos that we're producing.

Dennis Trufen

The tips and tools that, that we talked about, which is like YouTube search bar itself, the Tubebuddy app, if you want to utilize on Chrome, it's going to be in the link down below.

Dennis Trufen

Looking at Google trends themselves and then looking at your competitors, of course is important.

Dennis Trufen

We want to evaluate the potential of keywords by seeing opportunities.

Dennis Trufen

Go with the smaller terms for now if it helps you build up a resume effectively of how good you are at teaching people or showing people and helping people in their processes and then implementing these actual keywords with the title, the description, the, the tags, as well as the thumbnail altogether.

Dennis Trufen

So that should help you in your journey.

Dennis Trufen

So that way you can actually go through this process.

Dennis Trufen

Use the SEO tools that you now have on your hands so that way you can grow onto your YouTube channel.

Dennis Trufen

And like I mentioned earlier, we got plenty of podcast episodes here, so you can actually keep learning more when it comes to the SEO process because there's a lot to continue to learn on here as well too.
