EMMA:

15 years ago, I gave

EMMA:

up alcohol, cold Turkey.

EMMA:

Everyone thought I was

EMMA:

a little bit strange.

EMMA:

I am a bit strange, by

EMMA:

the way, but anyway, it

EMMA:

turns out it was the best

EMMA:

decision I have ever made.

EMMA:

That choice gave me the energy

EMMA:

to grow my business, walk

EMMA:

into bigger rooms, and become

EMMA:

according to my kids, the

EMMA:

happiest person they know.

EMMA:

Isn't that cool that your

EMMA:

kids think that you are the

EMMA:

happiest person they know?

EMMA:

In this episode, I'm sharing

EMMA:

The Secret Sauces

EMMA:

that have changed my

EMMA:

life and my business

EMMA:

and how you can

EMMA:

find yours too.

EMMA:

How does that sound?

EMMA:

We all want a little bit

EMMA:

of secret sauce, don't we?

EMMA:

In our lives?

EMMA:

I wanna share three

EMMA:

personal stories with you.

EMMA:

These are small but mighty

EMMA:

decisions that have shaped who

EMMA:

I am as a mom, who I am as a

EMMA:

business woman and a leader.

EMMA:

I call them my secret sauce.

EMMA:

They're not actually

EMMA:

that complicated, but

EMMA:

they have huge impact.

EMMA:

And maybe just, maybe they'll

EMMA:

spark something for you too.

EMMA:

Let's start with

EMMA:

the first one.

EMMA:

15 years ago, I gave

EMMA:

up alcohol cold turkey.

EMMA:

Here's the truth.

EMMA:

I thought it was normal to

EMMA:

have a four day hangover

EMMA:

from half a glass of wine.

EMMA:

Aaron, like it's not, turns

EMMA:

out it's not normal at all.

EMMA:

Turns out I was very

EMMA:

allergic, so I stopped.

EMMA:

Cold Turkey at first.

EMMA:

People laughed.

EMMA:

This was a long

EMMA:

time ago, right?

EMMA:

So we didn't have all the

EMMA:

array of non-alcoholic

EMMA:

beverages around.

EMMA:

You had a choice of

EMMA:

water or soft drink.

EMMA:

That was kind of it.

EMMA:

I was the weird one who drank

EMMA:

water at parties because you

EMMA:

can only have so much Coke.

EMMA:

Zero.

EMMA:

but here's what happened.

EMMA:

When I gave up, I

EMMA:

started sleeping properly.

EMMA:

Deep restorative sleep

EMMA:

where I'd wake up energized

EMMA:

instead of exhausted

EMMA:

my moods, evened out.

EMMA:

No more highs, no more lows,

EMMA:

just steadier, calmer, more

EMMA:

consistent energy, and I

EMMA:

do have a lot of energy.

EMMA:

I naturally ate better.

EMMA:

Without the late night

EMMA:

munchies or the sugar

EMMA:

cravings, my food choices

EMMA:

just improved without me

EMMA:

even trying, and I felt

EMMA:

clearheaded all the time.

EMMA:

The fog lifted.

EMMA:

I could think faster, make

EMMA:

decisions more easily, and

EMMA:

I focused on what mattered.

EMMA:

That one choice.

EMMA:

Walking away from alcohol

EMMA:

gave me better health,

EMMA:

a sharper mind and

EMMA:

more consistent energy.

EMMA:

Isn't that what we all want?

EMMA:

That also flowed

EMMA:

into everything else.

EMMA:

My family got the best of me.

EMMA:

I'm always the driver

EMMA:

wherever we go.

EMMA:

My husband loves that

EMMA:

and my business gets

EMMA:

the best of me as well.

EMMA:

So let me ask you,

EMMA:

What's your secret sauce?

EMMA:

What's the one decision

EMMA:

you could make this

EMMA:

week that would give

EMMA:

you better sleep, better

EMMA:

energy, or more clarity?

EMMA:

It isn't about

EMMA:

giving up alcohol.

EMMA:

That was just the thing

EMMA:

that I needed to do.

EMMA:

Yeah.

EMMA:

So I'm not here to preach

EMMA:

I'm just here to tell

EMMA:

you what happened to me.

EMMA:

Number two, secret sauce

EMMA:

is always being the

EMMA:

small fish in a big pond.

EMMA:

We recorded a podcast

EMMA:

episode about this a

EMMA:

couple of weeks ago, and

EMMA:

it's gone gangbusters.

EMMA:

I have had so many

EMMA:

people reach out to me.

EMMA:

You see, when I first started

EMMA:

in my business, I enrolled

EMMA:

in a business school and

EMMA:

it was super intimidating.

EMMA:

I was surrounded by people

EMMA:

making half a million,

EMMA:

a million, even more,

EMMA:

and I was making donuts.

EMMA:

Zero, $0.

EMMA:

Were there tears?

EMMA:

Yes, there were.

EMMA:

Were there moments when

EMMA:

I felt like an imposter?

EMMA:

Absolutely.

EMMA:

But I stayed.

EMMA:

I stayed because I knew

EMMA:

deep down that that's

EMMA:

where I needed to be.

EMMA:

Here's what I learned

EMMA:

in those rooms.

EMMA:

They freaking stretch you

EMMA:

like you wouldn't believe.

EMMA:

You start thinking bigger just

EMMA:

by being around people who've.

EMMA:

Done things that you didn't

EMMA:

even know were possible.

EMMA:

They humble you.

EMMA:

You realize you don't know

EMMA:

it all, and that's exactly

EMMA:

what pushes you to grow.

EMMA:

For me, I had an extra thing

EMMA:

because I have always been

EMMA:

brought up with a narrative

EMMA:

that I'm not that bright.

EMMA:

So it was an extra chunk

EMMA:

on top of that, right?

EMMA:

And I've had to

EMMA:

work through that.

EMMA:

And they change your

EMMA:

standards what once felt

EMMA:

impossible becomes normal.

EMMA:

'cause everyone around

EMMA:

you is doing it.

EMMA:

And as my business grew, I

EMMA:

had to keep finding new rooms.

EMMA:

Rooms where I

EMMA:

wasn't the leader.

EMMA:

I mean, I'm a great

EMMA:

leader, don't get me wrong.

EMMA:

But even leaders need

EMMA:

bigger rooms, right?

EMMA:

Rooms where I knew the

EMMA:

least rooms that made

EMMA:

me so uncomfortable.

EMMA:

My skin was like,

EMMA:

yeah, what am I doing?

EMMA:

But there's magic.

EMMA:

That's where the

EMMA:

magic happens.

EMMA:

The new ideas, the

EMMA:

new connections,

EMMA:

the new inspiration.

EMMA:

That's what fuels growth.

EMMA:

So here's my question for you.

EMMA:

Are you in the right room?

EMMA:

If you are always the

EMMA:

biggest fish, you've

EMMA:

outgrown it, maybe it's

EMMA:

time to find a bigger pond.

EMMA:

Number three, The

EMMA:

happiest person they know.

EMMA:

This third one is so close

EMMA:

to my heart, and when my kids

EMMA:

said it, and they've said it

EMMA:

multiple times, now I have

EMMA:

started to actual believe

EMMA:

that I'm the happiest person.

EMMA:

Out there, right?

EMMA:

My kids often say to

EMMA:

me, mom, you're the

EMMA:

happiest person I know.

EMMA:

Isn't that delightful?

EMMA:

They know a lot of people,

EMMA:

so I feel like that's one of

EMMA:

the best compliments as a mom

EMMA:

you could probably receive.

EMMA:

Now, just to be really clear,

EMMA:

I'm not happy every single

EMMA:

minute of every single day.

EMMA:

Life throws curve balls.

EMMA:

Business gets hard.

EMMA:

Things do not go to plan,

EMMA:

but here's the truth.

EMMA:

Happiness doesn't

EMMA:

happen by accident.

EMMA:

It's the result of the

EMMA:

choices I make and continue

EMMA:

to make and how I manage my

EMMA:

attitude every single day.

EMMA:

I had someone recently

EMMA:

say to me, Emma.

EMMA:

You are well known

EMMA:

in this community for

EMMA:

a couple of things.

EMMA:

One is every day you tell

EMMA:

us, happy Monday, or Happy

EMMA:

Tuesday, or Happy Wednesday.

EMMA:

And this goes back for me 20

EMMA:

years when I worked into a

EMMA:

workplace that was miserable.

EMMA:

And I'm like, I can make

EMMA:

the choice to be the

EMMA:

leader that I am and have

EMMA:

a decent attitude or not.

EMMA:

And so from that moment,

EMMA:

I decided to walk in and

EMMA:

every morning it was.

EMMA:

Happy Monday, happy

EMMA:

Tuesday, happy Wednesday.

EMMA:

And that has carried me

EMMA:

through for 20 years.

EMMA:

Apparently Serena

EMMA:

does it as well.

EMMA:

It's so random that

EMMA:

both of us do it.

EMMA:

But anyway, and what

EMMA:

now happens is when I'm

EMMA:

speaking to my clients,

EMMA:

whether they are CEOs of

EMMA:

a massive organization,

EMMA:

whether they're CEOs in

EMMA:

a smaller organization,

EMMA:

I've got one client, she's

EMMA:

$365 million business.

EMMA:

When I get on Zoom with her,

EMMA:

she like gets on and she needs

EMMA:

to get in first, and there's

EMMA:

always Happy Monday, Emma,

EMMA:

and it's like a competition.

EMMA:

Isn't that lovely?

EMMA:

People choosing their attitude

EMMA:

alongside me is so good.

EMMA:

But the choices that I've

EMMA:

made are this, I've chosen

EMMA:

to look after my health.

EMMA:

The decision to give

EMMA:

up alcohol was first,

EMMA:

prioritizing sleep, eating

EMMA:

well, moving my body, all

EMMA:

the things you have to

EMMA:

look after your health.

EMMA:

If you don't look

EMMA:

after your health,

EMMA:

you don't actually

EMMA:

have anything else.

EMMA:

That's the one problem

EMMA:

that gets in the way if

EMMA:

it becomes a problem.

EMMA:

Right?

EMMA:

I am choosing always to stay

EMMA:

CURIOUS walking into the

EMMA:

bigger rooms, even when it

EMMA:

made me feel uncomfortable

EMMA:

trying to understand someone

EMMA:

if they don't have the

EMMA:

similar point of view to me.

EMMA:

All the things around

EMMA:

trying to stay curious.

EMMA:

I create space for joy.

EMMA:

I don't mean we

EMMA:

go to Legoland.

EMMA:

I don't mean we

EMMA:

go to Luna Park.

EMMA:

I just mean every single

EMMA:

day having a laugh with

EMMA:

my family, enjoying the

EMMA:

little things like a warm

EMMA:

cup of tea, strong, sweet.

EMMA:

That's how I like it.

EMMA:

Just the little day

EMMA:

things that give me

EMMA:

a little bit of joy.

EMMA:

My heated blanket is also

EMMA:

ranked up there, just

EMMA:

saying, and then finally

EMMA:

choosing to protect my

EMMA:

energy setting boundaries.

EMMA:

Carving out CEO

EMMA:

time, saying no.

EMMA:

When something doesn't align

EMMA:

and not feeling bad about it.

EMMA:

It's all around

EMMA:

protecting my energy.

EMMA:

And because of those choices,

EMMA:

my kids don't just see a

EMMA:

mom who's busy running a

EMMA:

business, although I am busy

EMMA:

running a business, but they

EMMA:

see a mom who's laughing.

EMMA:

Uh, I'm present,

EMMA:

I'm energized, and

EMMA:

I'm genuinely happy.

EMMA:

But ladies, it is an

EMMA:

inside job, not an

EMMA:

outside job, right?

EMMA:

You have to make the choice.

EMMA:

And I see so many women

EMMA:

going through life and

EMMA:

they are unhappy, and I'm

EMMA:

just like, just fix it.

EMMA:

You have the

EMMA:

capacity to fix it.

EMMA:

And I wanna ask you that if

EMMA:

the people closest to you were

EMMA:

asked to describe you in one

EMMA:

sentence, what would they say?

EMMA:

if happy isn't there, what

EMMA:

might you change to make

EMMA:

it true and doesn't even

EMMA:

matter if we're happy.

EMMA:

I feel like happiness is like

EMMA:

so underrated, so underrated.

EMMA:

So there I have my three

EMMA:

secret sources, giving up

EMMA:

alcohol for better health

EMMA:

and clarity, and no, none

EMMA:

of those four day hangovers.

EMMA:

Also no lifts in the

EMMA:

back of a divvy van

EMMA:

from a police officer.

EMMA:

But that's for another day.

EMMA:

Another day, another

EMMA:

podcast episode.

EMMA:

Uh, number two, putting myself

EMMA:

in bigger rooms for growth.

EMMA:

And three, choosing happiness

EMMA:

through intentional decisions.

EMMA:

None of these changes

EMMA:

have happened overnight,

EMMA:

by the way, step by step.

EMMA:

They have shaped the way

EMMA:

that I live, the way that

EMMA:

I love my people and the

EMMA:

way that I lead my people.

EMMA:

Right?

EMMA:

So what's your secret source?

EMMA:

What's one decision you

EMMA:

could make this week to

EMMA:

give yourself more energy,

EMMA:

more growth, or more?

EMMA:

And if you're ready to

EMMA:

step in, step into a bigger

EMMA:

room, a bigger space, we

EMMA:

have a couple, just two

EMMA:

spots available in our VIP

EMMA:

one-on-one coaching with me.

EMMA:

That's a 12 month commitment

EMMA:

for people who are go-getters.

EMMA:

You get access to me, we have

EMMA:

monthly sessions, you get

EMMA:

recordings, you get to come

EMMA:

to go getters day, you get

EMMA:

to come to all the things.

EMMA:

And you get to grow, grow into

EMMA:

whatever the next version of

EMMA:

you is, because we don't wanna

EMMA:

just stay stagnant, do we?

EMMA:

Your secret sauce could

EMMA:

change everything.

EMMA:

Find it, honor it, and let

EMMA:

it fuel the life and the

EMMA:

business that you truly want.
