I want to welcome you to the Executive Perspective. For years I struggled to answer the question, what do you do for a living? Why? Because most people who ask only expect to hear one thing. I am an executive with a deep level of understanding of business, operations, leadership and technology. I'm also the president and founder of a worldwide ministry and CEO of an executive coaching and consulting firm. My number one passion is people and I receive significant gratitude in life from sowing into others and encouraging them as they grow to achieve their fullest potential. If you're a high performance individual like me, or you're simply ready to take your business leadership or inner potential to the next level, then strap in because I'm locked in and all in. This is the Executive Perspective.

Hey, what's up champions? This is your host, Neal Reyes, and I want to welcome you back to the Executive Perspective. I Today we're going to be continuing our mini series and this is the second episode in our mini series of talking about personal Agency. In our first episode, we talked about six pillars of personal agency. And while I discussed in their six pillars, I also helped to elaborate that that's not an exhaustive list. There's other things that can be part of that. And for the different people that teach on personal agencies, there's different things, but those are six main pillars that are at the epicenter of personal agency and personal development. Well, today we're going to be continuing that. And this is the second episode in this mini three series part. It's beneficial if you can listen to all three of them. But if you haven't listened to the first one yet, you don't need to stop and go back. You can continue with today's episode and then go back and watch it later on. But in the first one, like I said, we talked about the six pillars of personal agency. Today we're going to talk about why agency changes everything. In other words, it has the ability to change everything. And in today's episode, I'm actually going to take you through five reasons why agency changes everything. Now, before we go forward, I want to remind you that here at the executive perspective, we have one direction. We focus on moving. We focus on moving forward, forward and upward. And in that, our desire is to help connect you with the right information you need to win and be successful at life. Our desire is to help you connect with your best performance, your highest performing self, and connect with your best life and the best version of yourself. We specifically focus on three areas here on this podcast. We focus on leadership, business strategy, and personal development. And everything we speak on and everything we touch can help you in all those areas. But in my opinion, all those areas can touch. Touch every area in life that you have. Well, that being said, Champion, we're going to dive right into today's podcast and I'm excited about it because I'm looking forward to growing with you today as we talk about five reasons why agency changes everything. The first reason that we have is what we refer to as empowerment. Empowerment. What is that? Well, it puts you in the driver's seat. You know, one of the most successful things I have found in leadership as I'm growing teams, developing teams and leading teams, is to empower my people to do the jobs they're passionate about and that they've been called and gifted to do. In other words, as their leader, I don't need to be the one who makes every decision. As their leader, I don't need to be the one that has my influence on every single decision that's made. And I guess let me clarify that for a minute, because when I say my influence as a leader, I'm influencing them at all times and I'm giving them direction, I'm giving them vision of where we're going. But I give them the autonomy to make their own decisions without having to check every decision against me. And I give them the empowerment to go and make the choices they need to and to go and do the things they need to without me micromanaging them or without me having to check every single thing they do because I trust them as professionals. Does that mean they're always going to get it right? Not even close. Sometimes they make mistakes. We just try to cut out making the really big mistakes. But as we do that, we also encourage them that if they make a mistake, learn from it, grow from it. But it starts with empowerment and empowering them to be able to go out and make choices and decisions. It's what helps me with retainment and what I mean by retainment. Well, it's retention is really what I'm talking about. I have one of the lowest retentions. And the reason why is because I enable people and empower them to do what they're called to do. In other words, I let them be the experts at what they're supposed to be the experts on and I coach them up on it. I educate them, I stretch them and I grow them, but I let them go out and do the things that are fulfilling and bring enjoyment to them. Well, when we're talking about personal development and agency, and I'm talking about why agency changes everything, our first reason for that is empowerment. And the reason why is because it puts you, you champion. We're talking about you. It puts you in the driver's seat. Agency means you stop waiting to be rescued and you start choosing your response. As we're talking about this, sometimes you'll hear me say in some episodes, and especially when we do our deep work and get into it, I'll say things like, no one is showing up to rescue you. You're going to have to rescue yourself. In other words, we would love for someone to show up and help us. And I'm not saying sometimes people don't show up and do help us praise God for good people all around us. But sometimes you may not have someone who can rescue you either because they don't know enough about what you're doing to help you, or there's just no one showing up around and the only person who's going to show up and help you fix you is you. You got to put your own work in. You're your own responsibility. In case that's a news flash for you, champion, you are your own responsibility. Agency, again, means you stop waiting to be rescued. It's a mindset shift and you start choosing your response. And as you start choosing your response, you're going to know that you're living with a little more empowerment in life about making sound choices that help you and help you to start to shape the outcomes that you prefer to have in life. Rather than living on drift mode or default mode where things happen to you, it's the mindset shift of instead of having things happen to you or against you, it's you being living in an effective way of you're empowered to make choices so you can start to hope to influence those things around you. The next thing is, when you own your agency, you reclaim your power. I'm going to say that again. When you own your agency, your personal agency, you reclaim your power. Now that brings us to our first leadership truth bomb of the day. You can't lead your life if you don't believe you're in charge of it. I'm going to say that again because that's simple. But, man, that hits deep. In fact, it cuts a little bit. You can't lead your life if you don't believe you're in charge of it. If you believe that everything that happens to you in life as a result of other people's decisions, you're just going to be tossed like a wave or a grain of sand, you're going to be blown. Or anytime the wind blows, you're going to be blown all over the place. You have to understand that, yeah, sometimes the choices of others do impact you. I'm not saying they don't. But you have to change yourself from that victim mentality to the person who's going to take ownership and get in charge. You have to understand that you can lead your life, but you first have to believe you're in charge of it. Now, I'm not sure if you heard or not, but we have a special guest in the studio today. That's my dog, Livy. I have two dogs. I have Livy and I have Ollie, and they like to hang out and Stu with me today, but I can hear Livy getting a little excited in the background. And so if you hear her playing, please excuse her, but I love dogs. And we bring ours to the studio. The next reason we have this is reason number two. This is what we refer to as Goal achievement. I'm going to say that again. Reason number two is goal achievement. Goal achievement. It gives you a map and it gives you a motor, man, that's big right there. When you design goal achievement in your life, it gives you a map. In other words, you know where you want to do. You can map out your course. Once you have a map, it gives you a motor. What's the motor help you do? It helps you get going, homie. Anyways, it helps you get going. It helps you. Give you the gas or the power, I should say, to move. You know, One of my personal mentors in life is Brendon Richard. He's someone who I think so highly of, and I've been blessed to be able to go and be part of some of his masterminds. And I listen to him on a regular basis. And one of the most powerful teachings I've heard him teach is. And he has a lot. But one of his most powerful teachings I've heard him mention is where he talks about the concept of the power plant. And one of the things he talks about is that power plants don't have energy. Power plants produce energy, man. That's powerful. And in the personal development space, he relates that to that we are the power plant, and that as we are the power plant, we don't have energy. Our job is to produce energy. Well, when I talk about goal setting and I talk about that goal setting or goal achievement, I should say gives you a map and it gives you a motor. Oh, man. When you do goal achievement and you have the map, you're laying out the course of where you want to go. So you have direction, you have insight, you have understanding. And then as you develop that, and now you've got a motor with you, you are the motor, meaning you produce the power, you produce the momentum, you produce the movement to propel you towards that goal you want to achieve. Here's some things that are a big part of goal achievement. Clarity, planning, and follow through. All of those flow from a sense of agency. I'm going to say that again because those three are really big. Clarity, planning, and follow through. Now, one of the things you'll hear me say over and over again on this podcast at different times is that clarity. Oftentimes you get your clarity with momentum. In other words, what I mean is by movement, taking the first steps, so many people in life fail to even get started because they feel like they can't see all the steps. And I'm going to tell you that that's just not the way life works, especially when you're seeking God for those steps. Sometimes he only shows you step one. But if you never take step one, he'll never show you step two. Why? Because he's already spoken. He doesn't need to give you step two if you haven't even followed through with what he's already given you, which is step one. But when you take step one, things get clearer. And then you see step two, and then you see step three. And as you do those things, and then you measure, is this working? Is this being effective? And then you make judgments. Those things are what help to propel you forward in life and success. Clarity, planning and follow through. Those things are big in goal achievement. Having clarity about where you want to go or what you want to do on that map. Again, clarity about the direction you want to head. You know, if this, if you were looking at a map and the direction, if that was a map of like, let's say a physical layout of geography and the town you wanted to go to was north of you, but you take the highway that heads south, you're going to go in the wrong direction. You got to turn around and follow the right map or you got to map out your course. So it's your clarity. You then have to have clarity about where you want to go or what you want to do. It's the planning phase. You got to plan that thing out, you got to chart it out, and then you got to have some action. That's the follow through. If all you do, you could have the type of personality or talent or ability where you see things so clear. I mean, things are just crystal clear to you. They're so easy for you to see. You can be the best planner in the world. I mean, you're a planner of planners. You can make all the right steps and change and mark them all down and everything you need to do at every turn, everything, every step along the way. But if you never step out and do it, if you have no follow through, you're never going to get anywhere. You have to have all three together. Not one or two, but all three. Clarity, planning, and follow through. Now that brings us to our next leadership truth bomb for today. Dreams drift without direction. Agency gives them legs. I'm going to say that again. Dreams can drift without direction, but agency gives them legs. You know, there's one of my clients I think about when I talk about this, and this is a high performer. First of all, just so you know, this is a high performer. He's very skilled, very gifted. And he's achieved some big things in life. But a while back I asked him and I challenged him with the question that when he, when his children got older, he has young children. And I said, when your children get older and they think about you in life and the legacy that you left behind and they tell their children about grandpa or they tell the great grandchildren about great grandpa, and they're telling them, do you want them to describe you as a dreamer or do you want them to describe you as a doer? Oh, man, that's a tough word to hear right there. But I challenged him with that because as a coach, my job as a coach is to help connect people with their own answers that they need for their life. My job is not to see what they need and then tell them what to do. That's the job of a consultant. And I do that too. That's how I know that. But I do that in consulting land. But in coaching world or coaching land, my job is to help people figure out the things that are holding them back, the things that are the roadblocks, and then figure out how to smash that and get those things out of the way, how to connect with their own answers. But at the same time, my job as a coach is knowing how to support, knowing how to push and knowing when to push hard. Well, that was a push hard moment and it changed. And to this day, that client still talks to me about what I helped them understand that day, that he didn't want to be labeled as a legacy of being just a dreamer, someone who had these big goals and big intentions, but with no follow through. He wanted to be a person, purpose. And there's nothing wrong with having dreams. I'm not shouting. Having dreams down. You need to have dreams. If anything, in this world, people need to dream more, not dream less. Because most people have given up on their dreams. But you can't just have a dream without follow through. When you have a dream, you've got to get clarity on what that dream is. You have to do some planning to know how to do it. And then you got to have some follow through so you can execute. Now the next thing we have is reason number three. And reason number three on why agency changes everything is resilience. It builds what we refer to as bounce back strength. In other words, if you turn around and run up against resilience or some resistance or just some interference in some way and things seem difficult and like they're never going to happen, you got to have some bounce back strength. You got to Be able to have enough fortitude that that thing's not going to knock you down and wipe you out if you trip, if you stumble, or if you get discouraged. You got to have bounce back strength to get back up and keep charging forward. This is what agency says. Agency says I might get knocked down, but I still get to choose my next move. That's what personal agency does. Now, it may not come out of you exactly like that, but at the core it's saying something. It's saying, man, I might have got knocked down, but I still get to choose about getting back up and about finishing this thing. I'm not going to let the world knock me out with discouragement. I'm not going to let the world knock me out with a no. I'm not going to let the world knock me out with heavy critique or telling me I'm no good or I'm not good enough or I don't know what I'm doing. I'm going to pick myself back up and I'm going to get back to it. And remember what I talked about, that when you have clarity with your steps, you begin to get clarity as you execute, but then you measure the success and then you turn around and you make adjustments. Well, when you're getting back up, you make your adjustments, make your adjustments so that you get even better. Don't let this thing knock you down. You got to have bounce back, strength. Now here's our next leadership truth bomb for you today. Setbacks do not define you. How you respond to them does. Oh, that's a good one right there. I'm going to say that again. Setbacks do not define you. How you respond to them does. If there's something that has knocked you down, champion, or something that you just got the wind knocked out of you and you just feel like, man, there's no hope. I'm going to tell you, there is hope. You just got to get back up and keep doing it. You know, one of the things I say on every podcast we have is that I believe in you, champion. I believe you have greatness on the inside of you. You. You just have to continue to cultivate it, grow it, and bring it on the outside so others can see it. And then whatever that assignment you have in life is, whatever that goal you've set, whatever your desired outcome is, that you're wanting to go out and smash that thing, you go out and do it your best and you just do everything you can go all in on that thing. Because I believe in you and I Know you've got greatness inside of you. You, you know, when you show up to listen to podcasts like this that are built around leadership and business strategy and personal development, you're not here by accident. Now, you may have discovered us and not known about who we were before, but you didn't get this far in this podcast or in this series because you just stumbled upon it. You're here because these things matter to you. You're here because as I speak, it's resonating with that greatness that's inside of you. It's speaking to something in you. You know, the word tells us that deep calls unto deep. And as I'm speaking, the depth of my words is hitting the depth of your core. Deep calls unto deep. This is spiritual. This is biblical. This means something. These are biblical concepts. Deep calls unto deep. And as you feel it connect with you, whether you're a believer or not, you know in life you've been created for something better. You know, in life you got more in you. And it doesn't matter what's challenging you or what knocked you down, and it doesn't even matter how long ago that was. Maybe it's something you're facing right now where it was recent or maybe that was years ago, but today's the word that you needed to, where you recognize it's time for you to get back on the saddle and get going again and push forward again. I believe in you, champion. Start pushing forward. Now, the next thing we have is reason number four. And reason number four on why agency changes everything is psychological stability. In other words, it anchors your confidence. What do I mean by psychological stability? Well, where the mind goes, the band will follow. And if you're dealing with discouragement all day or self doubt or second guessing yourself, you're not going to be very confident. But if you have psychological stability, it'll help anchor your confidence. And what do anchors do? Well, they help keep you in place. So when the wind blows, when the waves get contrary, and you're trying to be tossed all about back and forth, you may have to weather some storms, but when the storm's done, you're still in the same place and you still know you're heading of where you're going. And where do we go on this podcast, we go forward and upward. That's how we move. When you believe you have a choice, you feel less anxious and more grounded. You know, anxiety is something that is so prevalent in today's world, something that's always existed and it's a term that now they're kicking around. But really, anxiety has different things. It's always been there, but it's stress at the very core of it, or anxiousness or things of that nature. But when you believe you have a choice, you feel less anxious and you'll begin to feel more grounded. In other words, you're on sure footing. And when things shake or things tremble, you have confidence because you're grounded. You're rooted. You have. You're rooted in the belief of knowing that you have a choice and you can change things. And then no matter if your last choice led to something good or if it led to something less desirable than what you intended, you can fix that situation by making a new choice. Because again, you execute. And as you execute, you measure. And then you make frequent adjustments. Here's another leadership truth bomb for you today. Agency is mental armor. I'm going to say it again. Agency is like mental armor. It protects your peace and it reinforces your purpose. That's a good one. I'm going to say that again. Agency is mental armor. It protects your peace and it reinforces your purpose. And that brings us to our fifth and this is our final reason for today of why agency changes everything. And our fifth reason is the is the reason of positive influence. Positive influence is so important because it makes you a leader by example. You know, we've talked about on this podcast and other episodes before that the best leaders that are out there don't just lead from a place of authority or from a place of position, so to speak, or a title. The best and most effective leaders in this world lead from a place of influence. In fact, I can tell you that you get done more done with influence than you do with title or authority. Now, sometimes you need title and authority to back you up. And then when you couple that with influence, man, those are power twins or power triplets at that point, I should say. But even if you don't have the title, even if you don't have the authority, if you have influence, personal influence, you can still move mountains and impact and change the lives of others. People notice when you take initiative and ownership over something. In fact, I'm going to tell you, that's often how you rise in the ranks of leadership. That's how you grow as a leader. Because people notice when you take initiative and ownership, especially when you don't have to be told to do so. When you take initiative, it's you doing that because you're a high performer champion. You're taking initiative and you're Taking ownership. Because you're built different. You see things different. And while others are out listening to music on the way home, on the commute home or the commute into work, or, you know, they're, you know, doing different things and singing the best songs, they may know all the popular songs on the radio, but when you're listening to podcasts like this on the way into work and on the way home, it's like you're in. You're. You're, like in vehicle university right there. You're growing up. You may not be getting a physical diploma, but you're getting a degree in here in your heart, and you're getting a degree in here in your mind. Positive influence is what inspires action and change in others. I'm going to say it again. Positive influence helps you inspire action and change in others. And this is our final leadership truth bomb of the day. You don't need a title to lead, just the courage to own your own choices. Whoa, that's a big one right there. You don't need a title to lead. You just need the courage to your own choices. In other words, you have to have enough courage to make your own choices and stick by them. And as you execute making choices, you then measure how do those choices work out, and then you make adjustments so you can then make the next choice. You know, where you're at today in life is based off the decisions you made yesterday. And where you'll be tomorrow is based off the decisions you make today. It's compound decisions that you make day after day after day. And as you make those compound decisions day after day after day, after a while, life begins to change for you in magnificent ways. Guys, I want to thank you for stopping by to grow with us today. I first of all want to remind you before I let you go, that I believe in you, Champion. I've already said it on this show, but I believe in you. And I believe you have greatness on the inside of you. You just need to continue to cultivate it, grow it, and build it, and then bring it on the outside so others can see it. And whatever that thing is you're trying to do, whatever goals you have, whatever vision you have, whatever assignments you're about, go out and smash that thing.
