Speaker ATogether we choose the uphill climb, pursuing the hard best and discovering the extraordinary life waiting to be lived in community.
Speaker ASo welcome to the show.
Speaker AI'm so glad that you can join me today.
Speaker AI'm excited about this episode because it talks about an ambitious future.
Speaker AI did that in episode two, just a little bit about getting to an ambitious future.
Speaker ABut this one's a little bit more, I believe it's a little richer, more robust.
Speaker AAnd I think it's very, very appropriate for where we are, you know, just kicking off being in the beginning of a new season, a new year, a new season.
Speaker ASo if you're listening to this podcast and you're saying, you know, you're maybe it's July or August, you know, remember that's a new season, right?
Speaker AOr it could be a season of your life.
Speaker AIt doesn't have to be a real legitimate season like calendar season or, or from, you know, wherever you are.
Speaker AIf you're up north and you experience winters or you know, you're in the south, it's strong summers.
Speaker AWherever you are, it doesn't matter.
Speaker ASeasons, seasons of life could be calendar seasons.
Speaker AWherever you are, I want you to have an ambitious future.
Speaker ASo it's the power of that ambitious future.
Speaker ASo that's what I'm going to talk about today.
Speaker AThere's going to be two parts to this.
Speaker AThere's going to be a part one, part two.
Speaker AAnd I hope you are listening to the show and if you are on a regular basis, thank you so much for doing that.
Speaker ABut wherever you are right now, if you're listening for the first time, you just, you caught this or maybe you've listened a couple times and you haven't done it yet.
Speaker AWhatever you're listening on, if it's Apple podcasts, Spotify podcasts, Amazon Music, if it's Odyssey, Audible substack, however you're listening.
Speaker AYouTube, follow the show, subscribe to it.
Speaker ASo that way you're always notified when a new episode comes out.
Speaker AIt is a weekly episode and I'm always just trying to give you things that will add value to your life.
Speaker AMy goal and what I do as a leadership coach, a people development person in my day to day and in my profession, all I do all day long is to help people get clarity, to become clear, to become clear, help them to better individuate, self actualize and make a difference, to be a better team player.
Speaker AI help them to raise standards that are necessary for them to see goals and meet goals, to see them accomplished.
Speaker AAnd also to help people get ready to embrace their call to and for more.
Speaker ASo I mean most of the people I'm working with are always in transition.
Speaker AThey need a challenger.
Speaker AThat's what I am.
Speaker AI am a challenger.
Speaker AI will challenge you to go to the next level and I care about you and therefore I challenge you.
Speaker ASo today's episode.
Speaker AOh, before I do that, if you want to follow me, you can follow me on the gram the Instagram at Tim Pecoraro and go into the bio link there and you click on the bio, you'll see my link tree.
Speaker AYou should be able to find all things that should connect you to me.
Speaker AAlso that you can follow me on LinkedIn.
Speaker ASo I don't do a whole lot on there just yet.
Speaker AI'm just posting what you'll see here.
Speaker AYou'll see some snippets and grabs off of the podcast and different things that I do.
Speaker AAnd that's it.
Speaker AJust little snippets, 30, 60 seconds long.
Speaker AI do plan on getting a little bit more into some long form things and also a couple of I'm probably going to do some free presentation things where I will invite people to join me and just do a LinkedIn Live or two.
Speaker AEspecially what I see what's going on in the world.
Speaker ASo if you're one of those people and you are freaking out and tripping out over everything that's going on in the world and if you're saying things are moving too fast and you're mad about the government, you're mad about whatever's going on, hey, shoot me a message.
Speaker AAnd I would love to hear your thoughts because I'm going to be talking a lot about that stuff.
Speaker ASo you may want to know what do I think about it?
Speaker AAnd when you the first thing I'm going to tell you what I think about it is I think you can make decisions.
Speaker AThat's what I mainly think you and I have the ability and the power to make some choices.
Speaker ASo I'm looking forward to talk more about that.
Speaker ABut anyways, in the midst of all the stuff that's going on, in the midst of all the uncertainty that some people feel in in midst for me, it doesn't matter the uncertainty that was yesterday could be today and was 10 years ago for me or what could be in the future, I still know something.
Speaker AI still know that I am this guy right here, me.
Speaker AI get to make decisions.
Speaker AI get to make choices.
Speaker ASo And I choose to think about an amazing future.
Speaker AThat's what I choose.
Speaker AI choose.
Speaker AI choose to think about next level living my next level of my life, which is right now.
Speaker ABecause today I'm using everything I did yesterday to build today.
Speaker AAnd tomorrow we'll use everything I do today.
Speaker ASo I love the fact that I am a curator the day before for what I'm going to do the next day.
Speaker ASo welcome to the show.
Speaker AIn case you don't know who I am, I'm Tim Pecoraro.
Speaker AAnd if you're tuning in for the very first time or if you've done this often, hey, welcome to the climb.
Speaker ALet's do this thing.
Speaker ASo today, this podcast is.
Speaker AI'm wanting to just continue to remind people it's about pushing forward in your life.
Speaker AThis is about pushing forward with your work, pushing forward with your personal growth, especially when things get steep.
Speaker AWhen things get steep, they get hard.
Speaker AAnd I believe in doing the hard best, not the easy good.
Speaker AAll right?
Speaker ASo for me, I believe it's critical if you want success.
Speaker AWhat's critical for me that I believe is you need an ambitious future.
Speaker AIt's critical.
Speaker AYou need an ambitious future for life and success if it's something that is simple and attainable, always there.
Speaker ANow, don't get me wrong, I believe you need to set achievable goals, things that are attainable, right?
Speaker ALike I am not going to beat LeBron James in a one to one.
Speaker AThat is not an attainable goal for me, right?
Speaker ASo I set a realistic goal, right?
Speaker ABut I want it to be an ambitious one.
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker ARealistic means I can be in the conversation.
Speaker ARealistic means I can hopefully work hard enough to be competitive enough.
Speaker AMy goal is not to be the best.
Speaker AMy goal is to be world class.
Speaker AI want to be in the competition.
Speaker AI always want to be in the running for one of those top three spots on the podium, right?
Speaker AThat's me.
Speaker AI'm always going to be doing that.
Speaker AAnd I'm world class.
Speaker AI want to be in the conversation.
Speaker ASo if we don't set a clear direction on things like what I just said, if you don't get clarity on that, you're going to end up just reacting to whatever happens in your life.
Speaker ABut when you take ownership and when you become a person who defines where you're going, find where I'm going, that's when the real transformation in our life happens.
Speaker AThat's when it really can take place.
Speaker ASo let me tell you, this is something I've learned firsthand, and I'm gonna I'm so excited about this.
Speaker ABut just a few weeks ago, just.
Speaker AActually, not even a few weeks.
Speaker AJust a week ago.
Speaker AJust a week ago, I became a grandfather again.
Speaker AYes, Number two.
Speaker AI'm grandfather again.
Speaker AI am Poppy.
Speaker APoppy, Number two.
Speaker APoppy.
Speaker ASecond time.
Speaker ASo I have a beautiful granddaughter now, and her name is Maika Micah Jane.
Speaker AAnd she was born on the 31st.
Speaker AI'm so excited about it.
Speaker AAnd.
Speaker ABut at that moment when I knew she was born and I saw the pictures first pictures of her, and then also when I just held her a couple of days after that, it reminded me of what kind of future that I'm building.
Speaker AWhat kind of future do I want to build?
Speaker AIt reminded me the importance of my legacy and what the legacy is that I would like to leave behind.
Speaker ANot the one that I thought before.
Speaker AI mean, listen, I've done a lot of things, had a lot of thoughts in my mind, and I've made a lot of changes over the past 15 years.
Speaker AI've decided to make a lot of changes.
Speaker AAnd those changes are only because it's obviously, you mature, you improve, you get better.
Speaker AIt's also.
Speaker AThere's been a lot of healing because a lot of things that.
Speaker AA lot of decisions that you make, you don't realize how much those are being driven by things that are broken still inside of you or unresolved.
Speaker AThere are things that still hurt, bruises, things that you're still living with the.
Speaker AJust the scars, just the leftovers.
Speaker ABut I want to challenge you today and to get you to look at what does your future look like?
Speaker AYou know, is it intentional or is it just happening?
Speaker AAnd again, so for me, the reason I'm bringing this up is because with.
Speaker AWith the.
Speaker AMy granddaughter and then before was my grandson.
Speaker AAnd you know, of course, and I have.
Speaker AWe have.
Speaker AWe have two.
Speaker ATwo sons and a daughter.
Speaker AAnd, you know, so you look at that and you go, those.
Speaker AYou know, that's.
Speaker AThat's a while out there.
Speaker AThat's.
Speaker AThat's pretty far out there.
Speaker AOkay, that, that.
Speaker AAnd I know my age and I'm like, wow, that's an extension from you, from yourself.
Speaker AAnd you say, okay, now what are they going to see?
Speaker AWhat are they stepping in?
Speaker AWhat are they living into?
Speaker AWhat are they going to be moving into?
Speaker AWhat is the legacy?
Speaker AWhat are they receiving?
Speaker AWhat are they inheriting?
Speaker AAll of those things.
Speaker ANot just money, guys.
Speaker AIt's not just what you leave.
Speaker AIt's not your house, it's not your possession.
Speaker AA lot of people, that's what they're looking for.
Speaker AYay, Yay.
Speaker ASo many people are like, I got this money to give to them and all this other stuff.
Speaker AI'm wondering what else you're leaving, right?
Speaker AWhat are you leaving them?
Speaker AWhat are you giving to them?
Speaker AWhat are you investing into them?
Speaker AWhat are you helping them to see grow into, grow and become?
Speaker AWhat are you doing to change in yourself?
Speaker AWhat are you doing to.
Speaker AYou know.
Speaker AAnd it's even the things that you know, there are things that you've gone through that they don't need to know your story.
Speaker AThey don't need to know everything about you.
Speaker AThey don't need to know the.
Speaker ASome of the pain.
Speaker AThey can know that you went through painful things, but they don't have to have every detail.
Speaker ABut I could tell you what they can get.
Speaker AThey can get the healing that you've gotten from the pain that you've experienced, so they can get every detail of the change.
Speaker AThat's what I'm talking about.
Speaker ASo when I look at that and I see the things that I want to accomplish, and I look at my grandchildren now and I look at my children, and then I look at the life that I'm living, and I put all that together, I start going.
Speaker AI've got to make sure that I'm paying attention to this.
Speaker AAnd so I have a very ambitious growth goal, a goal to change, to be better, to get better at being a human.
Speaker AAnd not just with the things that I do, but just also not just what I do, but why I'm doing it.
Speaker ASo I don't know.
Speaker AWhat went well for you?
Speaker ALike, when you think about the last.
Speaker AIf you would look back for the last month, the last two months, what went well for you?
Speaker AI know it's gone well for me.
Speaker AThe last month for me has been awesome.
Speaker AIt's been challenging.
Speaker AThere's been a lot of ups and downs, but it's been awesome.
Speaker AWhy?
Speaker ABecause I'm learning.
Speaker AThere's some things that I'm getting better at.
Speaker AThere are things that I'm improving in.
Speaker AThere are breakthroughs that I didn't think could happen.
Speaker AAre there.
Speaker AThere's discoveries in obscurity, in being slightly just aloof on purpose, being isolated a little bit and going through some of the things that are necessary in order to go to the next level.
Speaker AAnd I mean, isolated is not cut off from other people, but just inside myself just kind of shutting down and observing more, Just being there, being in a room, being around other people, seeing other people grow, seeing other people go see other people elevate and get to the next Level.
Speaker AThere have been four things that I've been using that have been guiding me.
Speaker AI've had in my mind, what am I going to stop, what am I going to start, what am I going to stay with, and what am I going to go from?
Speaker AAnd those things are important.
Speaker AAnd then service and connection are huge right now for me.
Speaker ANot that they haven't been before, but they're really, really big.
Speaker ABut here's the thing, and this is where I just want to lock down into the topic for today.
Speaker AIf you struggle to think of any highlights, like what I just did, if you struggle to think of highlights that should tell you something, it means that you're.
Speaker AYou might just be moving through life without any intention, without any intentionality, and it's a dangerous thing.
Speaker ANot the healthy dangerous, not the formidable dangerous that you want as a competitor, but because you don't just drift into your success.
Speaker AYou don't drift there, but we can drift towards distractions.
Speaker AYou don't drift into success, but you can drift into distraction.
Speaker AAnd if you're not being intentional about what you're doing, that's where you'll end up.
Speaker ASo for me, one of my biggest shifts happened when I realized I wasn't getting through life.
Speaker AYou know, I wasn't just going to get through.
Speaker AI wasn't just getting through and just getting by.
Speaker AYou know, what I realized in the biggest shift that happened for me was when I realized I was building something.
Speaker ASo this past month meant more to me that I'm building something.
Speaker AIt's been so strong in my mind, the things that I've been going through, it's because I'm building something.
Speaker AAnd some of the things that.
Speaker AAnd when I say I'm building something, that means that, yeah, I'm trying.
Speaker AI'm making attempts, I'm trying new things.
Speaker AI'm writing stuff, I'm.
Speaker AI'm meeting people, I'm doing my work, that I do all that stuff.
Speaker ABut I'm also.
Speaker AWhen I say I'm building something, it's because I'm also surrendering some things.
Speaker AI'm giving up some ideas, I'm giving up some attitudes, like, not good ones.
Speaker AI'm changing some things, right?
Speaker AI'm building something, right?
Speaker AAnd my.
Speaker AAnd when my granddaughter was born, that helped me to see more.
Speaker AI'm building something.
Speaker ANot only that, I see my grandson, I'm building something.
Speaker AI see my children, I'm building something.
Speaker AAnd, you know, I see my wife, I'm building something.
Speaker AI see my.
Speaker AMy family, I'm building something.
Speaker AMy Friends, I'm building something.
Speaker AI see my clients.
Speaker AI'm building something.
Speaker AThat's what.
Speaker AThat's what keeps me moving forward.
Speaker AAnd so I'm realizing that is the fuel that.
Speaker AThat phrase, I'm building something.
Speaker AIt gets me on fire to help me to look for this ambitious future.
Speaker ASo it gets me to ask myself, what's my why?
Speaker AAnd that's what I'm asking you.
Speaker AWhat is your why?
Speaker ASo let's break this down.
Speaker AIf you are on an airplane right now, how does the pilot navigate?
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AThe pilot needs to look onto the horizon.
Speaker AIt needs a horizon.
Speaker AAn aircraft needs a horizon.
Speaker AAnd without that reference point, that plane drifts off course.
Speaker ASo our lives are very similar to that.
Speaker ASo in my community, I'm walking the.
Speaker AThe community members through a whole thing that's a signature.
Speaker AMy signature training tools that I've used for years.
Speaker AAnd it's about how to create lift for your life.
Speaker AAnd it's all around that.
Speaker ASo our lives are similar to that aircraft needing that horizon.
Speaker ASo we don't just drift.
Speaker ASo without clear destination, we drift.
Speaker ASo here's what I'd like for you to do.
Speaker AI'd like for you to grab a piece of paper, and I want you to write down three things.
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker AI want you to write down a word that would define your focus.
Speaker AJust one word that's number one.
Speaker AWhat's one word that will define your focus?
Speaker ANow, for me, I have a word that is my lifetime focus, and that is people.
Speaker AIt's people.
Speaker AEver since I was a kid, it was people.
Speaker AMy last name.
Speaker AAnd here's a sheep that's on my arm, on my family crest for my name.
Speaker AThey're shepherds.
Speaker AMy last name is Shepherd.
Speaker AIt's.
Speaker AIt's.
Speaker AIt's around shepherding.
Speaker AAnd it's.
Speaker AIt's something that I've done all my whole life, didn't even realize it.
Speaker ASomething I fought against, something that was very difficult for me, is to be that shepherd.
Speaker ATo be shepherding two people, to want to care for them, to want to help them, to want to fight for them.
Speaker ASo my word is people.
Speaker AThat's an example.
Speaker AAnd then what are your core values?
Speaker ASo the second thing is write down key core values and don't just do the standard characters and integrity ones, right?
Speaker ASo you can have core values of, you know, you can say that you have high work ethic.
Speaker AThat's a.
Speaker AThat could be a core value.
Speaker ACore value can be excellence.
Speaker ABut then make sure you know what that means.
Speaker ALike, define excellence.
Speaker AWhat does it mean for me?
Speaker AExcellence, when it's done properly, it will honor God, right, Who I believe made life so amazing and all these things.
Speaker ABut also it inspires people.
Speaker AIt's that type of excellence for me.
Speaker ASo that is something that I would say for you to do.
Speaker ASo the first thing is find a word, right?
Speaker AA compass word, something that will guide you, something that is going to help you to get your focus.
Speaker ASecond is principles that will guide your decisions.
Speaker AAnd then third, I want you to think about the people who are the people that are helping you shape your future.
Speaker AThat's your horizon thinking.
Speaker AWhen I think of the horizon, I want to know my word, what's my focus, people, right?
Speaker AI want to know what are my core values?
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AExcellence.
Speaker AIt could be character.
Speaker ACan be integrity.
Speaker AIt could be, you know, strong work ethic.
Speaker AIt can be.
Speaker ABe competitive, like whatever you want it to be.
Speaker AAuthenticity, transparency, whatever you're looking for, get those things in there.
Speaker AAnd then who are the people that share those values?
Speaker ABecause those people with you on that horizon journey are going to shape that future with you.
Speaker ASo this is what I call the horizon principle.
Speaker AIt keeps you grounded and it keeps you moving in the right direction.
Speaker ASo because here's the truth.
Speaker AWhen it comes to the people, especially your relationships are going to shape that future.
Speaker AAnd the people in your life, they're either pushing you forward or they're pulling you back.
Speaker ASo you need to ask yourself that question.
Speaker AWho are the people in my neighborhood?
Speaker AWho are the people in your neighborhood?
Speaker AOkay, so you need to ask, who are they?
Speaker AAll right?
Speaker AAnd if you haven't.
Speaker AIf you haven't done this before, I'm going to give you something else I want you to ask yourself.
Speaker AHere's three questions I want you to ask yourself.
Speaker AThe first one is, am I surrounded by the right people?
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AYou can be surrounded by people.
Speaker AI was just with a client yesterday, and it was an alignment type meeting.
Speaker AAnd I was meeting the team and the staff.
Speaker AAnd what I did was I did my circle exercise with them.
Speaker AI did.
Speaker AThere's two circles, a small circle in the middle, and then one big outside circle.
Speaker AAnd then the middle circle is your inner circle.
Speaker AThen between the two circles is your in between, and then on the outside is your outer circle.
Speaker AAnd I talked to them about the inner circle, the in between circle, and the outer circle.
Speaker AAnd that you shouldn't have many people in the in between.
Speaker AYou're gonna have more on the outer, and then you shouldn't have too, too many on the inner, because everybody can't be in there.
Speaker AEveryone's not aligned like that.
Speaker ASo what I try to do is pay attention to the middle, the in between, and figure out who needs to move in and who should maybe move out.
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker AAnd so when.
Speaker AWhen I was doing that and I was talking to the.
Speaker ATo the.
Speaker ATo the team, one of the team members said, when we.
Speaker AWhen I was talking about it and they were struggling with their inner circle, and I asked them why you struggle with the inner circle?
Speaker AAnd they said, because the things that you're talking about as it relates to me being a distinguished staff member or a team member, someone who sets themselves apart, the people that you talk about that are in my life, that are supposed to influence me to be better at that, I don't want any way that they do life.
Speaker AI don't want that in my life.
Speaker AAnd I said, so what are they doing around you all the time?
Speaker ACan you change that?
Speaker AAnd that's the conversation.
Speaker AThat's where we went.
Speaker ASo you have to ask, am I surrounded by the right people?
Speaker AAnd if I'm not, I need to know, are my values?
Speaker AThe second question, are my values clear?
Speaker ABecause I want to make sure if I make my values clear and I demonstrate them, I live them and I'm saying them, then the wrong people will not trust me, try, will not be in the right atmosphere or experience that I'm looking for in my life.
Speaker AThey're not going to be in that right part.
Speaker AThey're going to have to be out of there, because the only room in there when I'm rightly aligned is going to be the right people who are aligned with those core values.
Speaker AAnd then the third, am I focused on the right thing?
Speaker ASo am I surrounded by the right people?
Speaker AAre my values clear?
Speaker AAnd the third question is, am I focused on the right things?
Speaker ASo I just want you to do that simple exercise.
Speaker AIt's that simple.
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker ASo the first thing I said, remember, is get a word that helps you to focus.
Speaker ASecond is look at your core values, because that's your principle that guides your decisions.
Speaker AAnd then the third is the relationships that are shaping your future.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AThat's the horizon principle.
Speaker AAnd then ask yourself these three questions before you move any further.
Speaker AAm I surrounded by the right people?
Speaker AAre my values clear?
Speaker AAnd am I focused on the right things?
Speaker AAll right, so I told you there's gonna be two parts to this.
Speaker AAnd next week when I come back, I'm gonna be getting further into, like, owning your own growth so that you can overcome any barriers or obstacle.
Speaker AThe only way to overcome barriers and obstacles in your Life is to own your growth process.
Speaker AOkay, so here's what I want you to do.
Speaker AHere's your action steps.
Speaker ABefore listening to the next episode, write down one to three areas that you want to grow in this year.
Speaker ACould be your fitness, physical fitness.
Speaker ACould be your mental fitness, it could be your emotional fitness, could be your financial fitness, it could be your spiritual fitness.
Speaker AI don't know what it is.
Speaker AWhatever you want to do, how you want to grow, you want to have a better mindset, that's up to you.
Speaker AYou want to because attitude is a choice, it's not a skill.
Speaker ASo that you want to be a person that has a better attitude and disposition, spirit of cooperation, however you want to grow, just think about it, okay?
Speaker AFigure it out.
Speaker AOne to two, one, two, three areas where you really want to grow.
Speaker AYou want to see growth this time next year from whatever you listen to this podcast, whatever day this is, where season you're in, whatever time that you're in a year from now, there's 365 days from now, what would it be like for you?
Speaker ASo I want you.
Speaker ASo the first thing is right at one to three areas.
Speaker ASecond is get specific.
Speaker AInstead of I want to get healthier, I want you to say something like, I want to run a 5k.
Speaker AInstead of I want to improve my finances, I want you to say something like, I want to save $10,000 within the year.
Speaker AI want to save $5,000 within here.
Speaker AWhatever you, you think it is.
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker ASo because next time we're going to get into or the next episode, we're going to cover the barriers, the things that are holding you back and how to actually make progress.
Speaker AAll right?
Speaker AJust a simple episode we're doing today, I want you, hopefully you will.
Speaker AI want you to take a moment, set that horizon.
Speaker AOkay?
Speaker AYou definitely don't want to miss part two, but just set the horizon.
Speaker AThink about that horizon.
Speaker AWhat's in that horizon?
Speaker AYou want to say, what's my.
Speaker AWhat's my word?
Speaker AWhat is that thing Tim says his is people.
Speaker AWhat's mine?
Speaker AYou know, what's my core value?
Speaker AWhat are my core values?
Speaker AThose things that are going to guide my decision making.
Speaker AWhat about those people?
Speaker AThose relationships that are going to shape my future?
Speaker AAm I surrounded by the right people?
Speaker AAre my values clear?
Speaker AAm I focused on the right things?
Speaker AWhat are those areas I want to grow in?
Speaker AWhat does it look like I'm going to do this?
Speaker AI'm tired of talking about it.
Speaker AI want action.
Speaker AI want that ambitious future.
Speaker AI want a life that is much different than the one I have right now.
Speaker AI want the most out of it.
Speaker AI want to go to the next level.
Speaker AIf that's you work on this.
Speaker AAnd.
Speaker AAnd I can't wait till you tune into next week or the very next episode so that you can remove those barriers and obstacles.
Speaker ASo until next time.
Speaker AWe'll talk soon.
