Hey, Dr. Jess Reynolds here.
Welcome to *The Conscious Practitioner*.
This is the audio version of my newsletter—made for wellness practitioners who love the work but are tired of feeling overwhelmed, burned out, and want to build a practice you love.
If you’d like to get the email version, you’ll find a link in the show notes.
Somewhere along the way, I forgot why I became a practitioner.
Not all at once. It was a slow drift—grad school, the pressure to specialize, the busy clinic days where I barely had time to breathe, let alone reflect.
I started my acupuncture career because I wanted something different.
I met two Zen monks who also happened to be acupuncturists while hitchhiking across North America. Their presence, their *vibe* — that’s what drew me in.
I didn’t chase this field to heal a sick family member or to “be of service.” I just craved a life that felt **calm**, **aligned**, and **real**.
Zen, basically.
After four years of brutal study and exams, I graduated top of my class. I was officially Dr. Jess. And with those two little letters came a mountain of ego and a brand-new persona I didn’t quite recognize.
I threw myself into clinic life.
Specializing in autoimmune conditions.
Treating psychoemotional issues.
Teaching at a massage college came next.
I loved it — I really did.
I was good at it.
But I wasn’t there because it fed my original why.
I was there because the opportunity was there, and I said yes without checking in with myself first.
Saying yes to everything without ever once asking: **Is this still the life I wanted?**
Fast forward a few years: I was respected, successful on paper — and absolutely wrecked inside.
The soul-level fatigue turned into insomnia.
The anxiety crept in.
Existential dread made surprise guest appearances.
It took a year-long sabbatical, a failed relationship, and starting AIM to finally see it:
I wasn’t broken.
I was just living completely out of alignment with my original why.
And when I began to course-correct — slowly, awkwardly — things shifted.
Not overnight. But enough to breathe again.
I’m telling you this because right now, I’m building a course specifically for wellness practitioners — not just about growing your practice, but about **building a business that actually aligns with your heart, mind, and soul.**
And if there’s one lesson that’s been carved into me the hard way, it’s this:
**Losing sight of why you started is the fastest route to burnout.**
So today, just this:
Take five minutes. Revisit your why.
Not the one you think you *should* have.
The one that first lit you up. The one that’s still flickering inside somewhere, even if it feels dim right now.
And if you feel like it, hit reply and tell me what you find.
I’d genuinely love to hear from you.
And as always, be well my friend.
