Blakely Ramsey

Hello, and welcome back to the Elevated Edit Podcast.

Blakely Ramsey

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday weekend.

Blakely Ramsey

We certainly did.

Blakely Ramsey

We ate a lot of food, we watched a lot of holiday movies, and we stayed pretty close to the house.

Blakely Ramsey

We did get out and go run a couple of errands, but other than that, we really did not do much.

Blakely Ramsey

One thing that we did do was we did a lot of reflecting on the last year, and we also discussed what we want 2025 to look like, not only from a professional perspective, but from a personal perspective as well.

Blakely Ramsey

And in that reflection, one thing I realized is that I am finally entering a season.

Blakely Ramsey

I will say that I'm entering the season.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm not there yet, and it's fairly new, but the season I'm entering is one where I no longer feel stuck.

Blakely Ramsey

And you can probably relate to feeling stuck.

Blakely Ramsey

It is one of those seasons where life's challenges just seem to keep knocking you down, or you feel like you're not making any progress towards whatever your goal is, and all around, you just feel stagnant.

Blakely Ramsey

And feeling stuck can certainly be frustrating because when you're in the middle of it, it feels like it's never going to end.

Blakely Ramsey

And one of the things that I think has really helped me overcome this stagnant feeling, this feeling of being stuck, is that I have really worked on my mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

And to summarize, where I feel like my mindset has headed is that I have cultivated a growth mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

And a growth mindset can shift our perspective in so many ways, and it can put us on a path towards working smarter and not harder towards our goals.

Blakely Ramsey

Goals and passions.

Blakely Ramsey

And y'all know I'm all about that right now.

Blakely Ramsey

I have been, thankfully, in a lot of rooms, in a lot of masterminds.

Blakely Ramsey

I've listened to a lot of podcasts, read a ton of books this year, and that is really the.

Blakely Ramsey

I wouldn't even say marker for success, but I feel like that's when you know that you're, like, on the right path.

Blakely Ramsey

It's not necessarily going to be easy, but you can tell when you're working smarter and not harder.

Blakely Ramsey

Things are just aligned.

Blakely Ramsey

They are more simple.

Blakely Ramsey

I never want to say easy because I.

Blakely Ramsey

I don't even like doing things the easy way.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, you can ask anybody.

Blakely Ramsey

I typically like to do things the most efficient way.

Blakely Ramsey

Let's go ahead and do it right the first time.

Blakely Ramsey

But when you are aligned with your goals and your passions and you have that growth mindset, you'll find that you are easily working smarter and not harder.

Blakely Ramsey

And it just makes everything so much better.

Blakely Ramsey

And one of the best things about a growth mindset is that it can shift your perspective in such an impactful way because it changes your focus.

Blakely Ramsey

So you are shifting from focusing on perfection, and that can look like a lot of different things.

Blakely Ramsey

I have to be perfect before I can start.

Blakely Ramsey

I tried and I failed.

Blakely Ramsey

You know, I wasn't perfect.

Blakely Ramsey

I did the thing and it didn't go well, or somebody made fun of me or whatever the case is.

Blakely Ramsey

It shifts your perspective from focusing on that to focusing on progress.

Blakely Ramsey

So instead of using the last narrative, we can now flip it to, you know what?

Blakely Ramsey

I failed, but I learned these 10 things.

Blakely Ramsey

And so the next time I try it, I'll be improved.

Blakely Ramsey

Or you know what?

Blakely Ramsey

I failed.

Blakely Ramsey

But I think they say it takes like a hundred no's to get to a yes.

Blakely Ramsey

So, like, I am 99 no's away from my next yes.

Blakely Ramsey

And you're literally, you can take the same situation, but if you've got a growth mindset, when you're looking at a situation, it just opens up many doors.

Blakely Ramsey

It opens up so many opportunities.

Blakely Ramsey

And honestly, it just feels better to live that way.

Blakely Ramsey

But in order for us to really understand this, let's define the opposite of a growth mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

And that is a fixed mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

So a fixed mindset is the belief that your abilities, intelligence, and talents are static traits that cannot be changed or improved.

Blakely Ramsey

And people with a fixed mindset often see the world as something that's challenging, something that's really hard.

Blakely Ramsey

So they look at their failures as indicators of inherent limitations.

Blakely Ramsey

They look at a no as something that's concrete.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, well, they told me no, so I can never have that.

Blakely Ramsey

Or I tried once and I failed.

Blakely Ramsey

So that means I'm a failure.

Blakely Ramsey

You know, it's a very all or nothing mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

Um, it is very just exactly how it sounds.

Blakely Ramsey

It's a very fixed mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

Another phrase that I personally feel like is a fixed mindset is, well, that's just the way it's always been.

Blakely Ramsey

Well, that's just how it's always been.

Blakely Ramsey

Or I am Bad at X, Y and Z, and I can't change it.

Blakely Ramsey

So I feel like I was like that for a long time.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, math is an example.

Blakely Ramsey

I would just be like, oh, well, I'm just not good with numbers.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm just not good at math.

Blakely Ramsey

And hear, like, lately I've worked with people and read books and done things, and I'm like, oh, I'm actually not bad at math.

Blakely Ramsey

I was just.

Blakely Ramsey

I just had that fixed mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

You know, I told myself because I hadn't done well on a few tests in high school, that I was quote, unquote, bad at math.

Blakely Ramsey

And instead I should have used it as a marker for, well, maybe this is what I need to work on.

Blakely Ramsey

Maybe this is what I need to improve next time.

Blakely Ramsey

So we've defined fixed mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

Let's give a really good definition to a growth mindset, really quick.

Blakely Ramsey

And so a growth mindset mindset is the belief that abilities, intelligence, and talents can be developed and improved through effort, learning, and persistence.

Blakely Ramsey

So it is completely opposite vocabulary as a fixed mindset, which I love.

Blakely Ramsey

But people with a growth mindset are embracing challenges and they are seeing failures as opportunities to learn.

Blakely Ramsey

And I think another really important thing when it comes to a growth mindset or people with a growth mindset is that they believe that they can continually grow and evolve.

Blakely Ramsey

So they believe people can change.

Blakely Ramsey

They believe that they can change, and typically they believe they can change in a fairly short amount of time.

Blakely Ramsey

I certainly think that.

Blakely Ramsey

I think that I could change anything within, you know, given a year or two.

Blakely Ramsey

And I might be a little delusional when I think that.

Blakely Ramsey

But, you know, just having that mindset of, like, okay, I maybe don't like this personality trait about myself, or I don't love that I don't know this skill, or I wish I knew more about this, or I wish I was better at this, or I wish I could do whatever it is.

Blakely Ramsey

Just having the thought of I can certainly change.

Blakely Ramsey

That, I think is really important.

Blakely Ramsey

And it opens up your life to so many opportunities.

Blakely Ramsey

So just a quick example, I have been scared of paid ads on social media for a long time now.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, it just seems really overwhelming to me.

Blakely Ramsey

I have always just kind of when I run an ad, I, you know, throw a hundred bucks at it and call it a day.

Blakely Ramsey

And I feel like I had just kind of retired into a mindset of like, well, I'm just not good at ads.

Blakely Ramsey

And I.

Blakely Ramsey

I don't know, I literally had such a fixed mindset about it.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, it was Just one of those things where I just.

Blakely Ramsey

I wasn't even putting forth any effort to get better at it.

Blakely Ramsey

And, you know, through this year, things have come to me.

Blakely Ramsey

Things have kind of lined up well.

Blakely Ramsey

And I saw an ad.

Blakely Ramsey

Hilarious that that's how it turned out.

Blakely Ramsey

But I saw an ad on the Elevated Edits Instagram feed.

Blakely Ramsey

So it's funny because my personal feed and my.

Blakely Ramsey

The podcast feed are so different.

Blakely Ramsey

It's almost like the podcast has its own personality.

Blakely Ramsey

And it's.

Blakely Ramsey

It's.

Blakely Ramsey

I love that feed.

Blakely Ramsey

Way better.

Blakely Ramsey

It's way more inspirational.

Blakely Ramsey

But I saw this ad for a summit.

Blakely Ramsey

Literally, the only thing the summit is going to cover is paid ads.

Blakely Ramsey

And I went back and forth because the ticket's a little pricey, but I was like, you know what?

Blakely Ramsey

This is something that I have really, like, kind of had a fear around.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm definitely not comfortable with it.

Blakely Ramsey

And it's something that could definitely, you know, take my business, take my brand to the next level.

Blakely Ramsey

And so I bought the ticket, and so, you know, paid for the ticket, got the email confirmation, all the things.

Blakely Ramsey

And I went through the speaker list, and I followed all of the speakers on Instagram.

Blakely Ramsey

And I have actually found a new podcast that I love that I've learned so much from just because I bought the ticket for that course or that summit.

Blakely Ramsey

And so I really do.

Blakely Ramsey

I think that, like, if you've got that growth mindset, you think you can change, you think you can improve, keep your eyes open, opportunities fall in your lap, and then, like, so many things fall into place under that.

Blakely Ramsey

And like I said, like, I've learned so much from this podcast that I found.

Blakely Ramsey

I haven't even made it to the summit yet.

Blakely Ramsey

So I'm really, like, I'm so excited, and I want everyone to experience that growth mindset and think, you know, when problems come up or when issues arise or you run into a situation that you're not good at, or you find something that you fail at, think, how can I grow from this?

Blakely Ramsey

And.

Blakely Ramsey

Or another way to phrase it is, hey, I tried something and I was really bad at it, but I know I can learn from my mistakes and I can improve next time.

Blakely Ramsey

A recent failure I've had is that I hope Jessica listens to this episode.

Blakely Ramsey

I can't ride a bike.

Blakely Ramsey

And I tried to ride my bike around the palace of Versailles, and I failed, and I cried a little bit.

Blakely Ramsey

But you know what?

Blakely Ramsey

I was like, what can I learn from my mistakes to improve next time?

Blakely Ramsey

And I'll know next time maybe I shouldn't book a bike tour through a really busy city in Europe.

Blakely Ramsey

Maybe the next time I try to ride a bike, we try to ride a bike, you know, like, in Smackover somewhere that's a little slower, a little calmer.

Blakely Ramsey

We're gonna have to do.

Blakely Ramsey

We're trying to work out when we can do the episode on Paris and Barcelona.

Blakely Ramsey

But y'all have got to hear the story about the bike situation, because it was funny from my perspective, because Jessica just knew how to handle me when I was, like, embarrassed.

Blakely Ramsey

A lot of people don't.

Blakely Ramsey

They come on too strong.

Blakely Ramsey

And that makes me, like, I get like a caged animal, like, backed into a corner girl did not even look back over her shoulder.

Blakely Ramsey

When I fell off that pipe, she was gone.

Blakely Ramsey

She was like, she's a girl.

Blakely Ramsey

Woman.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, it's such a good memory.

Blakely Ramsey

Okay, I'm sorry.

Blakely Ramsey

I got sidetracked.

Blakely Ramsey

I had to giggle at that memory for a second.

Blakely Ramsey

So key characteristics of a growth mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

And now that I know what a growth mindset is, I can, like, pinpoint it.

Blakely Ramsey

And other people, like, I'm like, oh, wow, they.

Blakely Ramsey

They definitely have a growth mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, that person is like, growth mindset all the way.

Blakely Ramsey

Have so many friends now that I have, like, studied this and I can put a word to it.

Blakely Ramsey

They are like, growth mindset, like, 200%.

Blakely Ramsey

They are just, like, shooting for the stars all the time, constantly looking at for opportunities.

Blakely Ramsey

They don't take no for an answer.

Blakely Ramsey

They don't care if they fail.

Blakely Ramsey

If they fail, they're already trying again.

Blakely Ramsey

So I am fortunate to be surrounded by a lot of people with a growth mindset but key characteristics.

Blakely Ramsey

So they focus on abundance and opportunity.

Blakely Ramsey

They have the mindset that there is enough to go around, that there is always more.

Blakely Ramsey

There is no, like, lack in their vocabulary.

Blakely Ramsey

There is just abundance of whatever it is that they are needing.

Blakely Ramsey

And there's always opportunity.

Blakely Ramsey

They look at challenges as opportunities.

Blakely Ramsey

They see failure as feedback, and they really try to always look at the positive in a situation.

Blakely Ramsey

Another characteristic is this person believes in constant learning and growth.

Blakely Ramsey

We can always change.

Blakely Ramsey

We can always improve.

Blakely Ramsey

We can always get better.

Blakely Ramsey

Whatever it is that we are working towards, this one is huge.

Blakely Ramsey

But another characteristic is this person has a high awareness of ego.

Blakely Ramsey

So I have read a lot of books about the ego over the last couple of years, and, you know, it all goes back to self sabotage.

Blakely Ramsey

But our ego does not want us to fail because our ego wants us to be comfortable and always look like we know what we're doing and just walk around and basically stay in our comfort zone, not try anything ever, not ever look stupid.

Blakely Ramsey

And it really holds us back.

Blakely Ramsey

So high awareness of ego is huge.

Blakely Ramsey

And then the last characteristic is this person remains humble and curious.

Blakely Ramsey

And humble kind of goes back to the ego because you do have to be humble to have a growth mindset because you're going to fail a lot, you're going to fail publicly potentially.

Blakely Ramsey

People might make fun of you, they might talk about you, and you just kind of have to put your head down and keep going.

Blakely Ramsey

And then curiosity, always just kind of questioning things, trying to see what's around the corner.

Blakely Ramsey

How can we change this?

Blakely Ramsey

What would it look like if we did it this way?

Blakely Ramsey

Just always searching for new ideas.

Blakely Ramsey

So with all this, y'all know I am all about taking elevated action.

Blakely Ramsey

So let's discuss how you can cultivate a growth mindset yourself.

Blakely Ramsey

As always, awareness is my first step.

Blakely Ramsey

You truly cannot change anything until you are aware of it in the first place.

Blakely Ramsey

So with this situation, notice when you're in a stuck mind, when you're stuck in a fixed mindset and don't expect yourself to be perfect, like just aim to be aware of it.

Blakely Ramsey

You know, if you, if you hear yourself going like if there's something you really want and you ask for it, like say you want a raise and you meet with your boss and your boss is like, well, you know that whatever they say, not the right time, we don't feel like you deserve it.

Blakely Ramsey

Don't take that as just like a complete and final no.

Blakely Ramsey

Just say, you know, look at it as an opportunity.

Blakely Ramsey

Look at it as something, okay, well, I maybe need to try something different.

Blakely Ramsey

I need to create a new system at work.

Blakely Ramsey

I need to provide a new, you know, set of values or I might need to find a new job.

Blakely Ramsey

And that kind of leads into the next one which is reframing your thoughts to how can I learn from this?

Blakely Ramsey

Instead of going from that fixed mindset where when you mess up, you see it as a failure, you see you just like down in yourself, you look at it and say, how can I grow so that I can improve on this next time?

Blakely Ramsey

So awareness, reframing your thoughts and then this next one is really important and it's really hard, especially if you've got people in your life that you're very close with, that you love.

Blakely Ramsey

But you have to surround yourself with growth minded people.

Blakely Ramsey

This has been such a game changer for me this year.

Blakely Ramsey

I have built an accountability group and I'll Say that again.

Blakely Ramsey

I have built an accountability group.

Blakely Ramsey

I had to be very intentional with it.

Blakely Ramsey

I had to pay to get in rooms.

Blakely Ramsey

I had to pay to get some of these people's time.

Blakely Ramsey

I had to invest.

Blakely Ramsey

It wasn't, oh, well, I'm just going to sit here and hope that people with a growth mindset come and hang out with me.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, I was very intentional.

Blakely Ramsey

I was very specific about this.

Blakely Ramsey

But having an accountability group that is very honest and that has a growth mindset is so massive, because I think, what is the phrase where you are the.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, if you want to see what your life is going to be like in five years, look at the five people that you hang out with the most.

Blakely Ramsey

And that's so true.

Blakely Ramsey

And look, it's not.

Blakely Ramsey

This is a warning.

Blakely Ramsey

It is not always easy hanging out with people with a growth mindset because a lot of times they will push you farther than you want to go.

Blakely Ramsey

Like, when you hang out with people that have a fixed mindset and you're complaining about your job or the price of groceries, countries, or the economy or the president, those people are going to be like, oh, I know, it's so awful.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, my goodness.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, whoa.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, there's nothing we can do.

Blakely Ramsey

Oh, we just have to sit over here and just, oh, poor us.

Blakely Ramsey

When you start hanging out with people with a growth mindset, it's like, okay, yeah, economy's not great.

Blakely Ramsey

Okay, whatever.

Blakely Ramsey

I'm not gonna get political on this podcast.

Blakely Ramsey

But they're like, okay, now what can we do about it?

Blakely Ramsey

Like, that's cool.

Blakely Ramsey

That's an external.

Blakely Ramsey

An external situation.

Blakely Ramsey

But what are we going to do to move forward?

Blakely Ramsey

How are we going to reframe our thoughts?

Blakely Ramsey

Use this as an opportunity?

Blakely Ramsey

How are we going to grow?

Blakely Ramsey

How are we going to learn from this?

Blakely Ramsey

And so hanging out with people that have a growth mindset can literally change your life more than almost any other.

Blakely Ramsey

Self development, personal development, whatever it is, hack or tactic or habit that you're trying to implement, like, that can be the game changer for you, and it's huge.

Blakely Ramsey

And with that, you want to make sure that you are distancing.

Blakely Ramsey

Distancing.

Blakely Ramsey

Can't speak today.

Blakely Ramsey

Distancing yourself from negativity and fixed mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

One way that I have really tried to intentionally do this lately is deleting Facebook from my phone.

Blakely Ramsey

I can still access it from my computer, but, you know, it's not as fun to get and scroll on your computer.

Blakely Ramsey

Um, and I found that I only, like, check it once or twice a week, and I get on there and I'm just like, this is not the vibe.

Blakely Ramsey

And I get right back off.

Blakely Ramsey

So that one has been huge.

Blakely Ramsey

Just kind of staying away from the negativity, staying away from people who constantly want to complain and do nothing about it.

Blakely Ramsey

It can really kind of pull you closer to you having your own growth mindset.

Blakely Ramsey

And last but not least, express gratitude daily.

Blakely Ramsey

What you focus on grows, so focus on the good.

Blakely Ramsey

I want to say that again, what we focus on grows, so focus on the good.

Blakely Ramsey

If you're constantly focusing on negative problems issues, you're constantly going to have negative problems issues.

Blakely Ramsey

But if you focus on abundance and opportunity and joy, that's what you're going to find.

Blakely Ramsey

So be thankful for what is right in front of you and you'll get more of it.

Blakely Ramsey

I try.

Blakely Ramsey

I've tried lately to every day thankful for my husband and our cats and our other animals in our house.

Blakely Ramsey

And then I just keep going on and on and on because I definitely want to keep all of the good things in my life and I want more of them.

Blakely Ramsey

I do.

Blakely Ramsey

I want all the good things.

Blakely Ramsey

And remember that small shifts lead to big changes.

Blakely Ramsey

So start where you are.

Blakely Ramsey

Don't get down on yourself if you aren't perfect at this right away.

Blakely Ramsey

Don't get down on yourself if all of a sudden you start paying attention and you realize that you have a fixed mindset about 90% of the things in your life.

Blakely Ramsey

Awareness is the first step.

Blakely Ramsey

Awareness is the, in my opinion, most important step because you can't fix something that you don't know.

Blakely Ramsey

You can't fix something you're not aware of.

Blakely Ramsey

And don't be scared.

Blakely Ramsey

Don't be scared to, like, look at your mindset and look at how you're looking at things.

Blakely Ramsey

It's really important and it can be a total game changer for you.

Blakely Ramsey

Hope you got a little something out of this episode.

Blakely Ramsey

That's my hope.
