Blakely RamseyHello, and welcome back to the Elevated Edit Podcast.
Blakely RamseyI hope you all had a fantastic holiday weekend.
Blakely RamseyWe certainly did.
Blakely RamseyWe ate a lot of food, we watched a lot of holiday movies, and we stayed pretty close to the house.
Blakely RamseyWe did get out and go run a couple of errands, but other than that, we really did not do much.
Blakely RamseyOne thing that we did do was we did a lot of reflecting on the last year, and we also discussed what we want 2025 to look like, not only from a professional perspective, but from a personal perspective as well.
Blakely RamseyAnd in that reflection, one thing I realized is that I am finally entering a season.
Blakely RamseyI will say that I'm entering the season.
Blakely RamseyI'm not there yet, and it's fairly new, but the season I'm entering is one where I no longer feel stuck.
Blakely RamseyAnd you can probably relate to feeling stuck.
Blakely RamseyIt is one of those seasons where life's challenges just seem to keep knocking you down, or you feel like you're not making any progress towards whatever your goal is, and all around, you just feel stagnant.
Blakely RamseyAnd feeling stuck can certainly be frustrating because when you're in the middle of it, it feels like it's never going to end.
Blakely RamseyAnd one of the things that I think has really helped me overcome this stagnant feeling, this feeling of being stuck, is that I have really worked on my mindset.
Blakely RamseyAnd to summarize, where I feel like my mindset has headed is that I have cultivated a growth mindset.
Blakely RamseyAnd a growth mindset can shift our perspective in so many ways, and it can put us on a path towards working smarter and not harder towards our goals.
Blakely RamseyGoals and passions.
Blakely RamseyAnd y'all know I'm all about that right now.
Blakely RamseyI have been, thankfully, in a lot of rooms, in a lot of masterminds.
Blakely RamseyI've listened to a lot of podcasts, read a ton of books this year, and that is really the.
Blakely RamseyI wouldn't even say marker for success, but I feel like that's when you know that you're, like, on the right path.
Blakely RamseyIt's not necessarily going to be easy, but you can tell when you're working smarter and not harder.
Blakely RamseyThings are just aligned.
Blakely RamseyThey are more simple.
Blakely RamseyI never want to say easy because I.
Blakely RamseyI don't even like doing things the easy way.
Blakely RamseyLike, you can ask anybody.
Blakely RamseyI typically like to do things the most efficient way.
Blakely RamseyLet's go ahead and do it right the first time.
Blakely RamseyBut when you are aligned with your goals and your passions and you have that growth mindset, you'll find that you are easily working smarter and not harder.
Blakely RamseyAnd it just makes everything so much better.
Blakely RamseyAnd one of the best things about a growth mindset is that it can shift your perspective in such an impactful way because it changes your focus.
Blakely RamseySo you are shifting from focusing on perfection, and that can look like a lot of different things.
Blakely RamseyI have to be perfect before I can start.
Blakely RamseyI tried and I failed.
Blakely RamseyYou know, I wasn't perfect.
Blakely RamseyI did the thing and it didn't go well, or somebody made fun of me or whatever the case is.
Blakely RamseyIt shifts your perspective from focusing on that to focusing on progress.
Blakely RamseySo instead of using the last narrative, we can now flip it to, you know what?
Blakely RamseyI failed, but I learned these 10 things.
Blakely RamseyAnd so the next time I try it, I'll be improved.
Blakely RamseyOr you know what?
Blakely RamseyI failed.
Blakely RamseyBut I think they say it takes like a hundred no's to get to a yes.
Blakely RamseySo, like, I am 99 no's away from my next yes.
Blakely RamseyAnd you're literally, you can take the same situation, but if you've got a growth mindset, when you're looking at a situation, it just opens up many doors.
Blakely RamseyIt opens up so many opportunities.
Blakely RamseyAnd honestly, it just feels better to live that way.
Blakely RamseyBut in order for us to really understand this, let's define the opposite of a growth mindset.
Blakely RamseyAnd that is a fixed mindset.
Blakely RamseySo a fixed mindset is the belief that your abilities, intelligence, and talents are static traits that cannot be changed or improved.
Blakely RamseyAnd people with a fixed mindset often see the world as something that's challenging, something that's really hard.
Blakely RamseySo they look at their failures as indicators of inherent limitations.
Blakely RamseyThey look at a no as something that's concrete.
Blakely RamseyOh, well, they told me no, so I can never have that.
Blakely RamseyOr I tried once and I failed.
Blakely RamseySo that means I'm a failure.
Blakely RamseyYou know, it's a very all or nothing mindset.
Blakely RamseyUm, it is very just exactly how it sounds.
Blakely RamseyIt's a very fixed mindset.
Blakely RamseyAnother phrase that I personally feel like is a fixed mindset is, well, that's just the way it's always been.
Blakely RamseyWell, that's just how it's always been.
Blakely RamseyOr I am Bad at X, Y and Z, and I can't change it.
Blakely RamseySo I feel like I was like that for a long time.
Blakely RamseyLike, math is an example.
Blakely RamseyI would just be like, oh, well, I'm just not good with numbers.
Blakely RamseyI'm just not good at math.
Blakely RamseyAnd hear, like, lately I've worked with people and read books and done things, and I'm like, oh, I'm actually not bad at math.
Blakely RamseyI was just.
Blakely RamseyI just had that fixed mindset.
Blakely RamseyYou know, I told myself because I hadn't done well on a few tests in high school, that I was quote, unquote, bad at math.
Blakely RamseyAnd instead I should have used it as a marker for, well, maybe this is what I need to work on.
Blakely RamseyMaybe this is what I need to improve next time.
Blakely RamseySo we've defined fixed mindset.
Blakely RamseyLet's give a really good definition to a growth mindset, really quick.
Blakely RamseyAnd so a growth mindset mindset is the belief that abilities, intelligence, and talents can be developed and improved through effort, learning, and persistence.
Blakely RamseySo it is completely opposite vocabulary as a fixed mindset, which I love.
Blakely RamseyBut people with a growth mindset are embracing challenges and they are seeing failures as opportunities to learn.
Blakely RamseyAnd I think another really important thing when it comes to a growth mindset or people with a growth mindset is that they believe that they can continually grow and evolve.
Blakely RamseySo they believe people can change.
Blakely RamseyThey believe that they can change, and typically they believe they can change in a fairly short amount of time.
Blakely RamseyI certainly think that.
Blakely RamseyI think that I could change anything within, you know, given a year or two.
Blakely RamseyAnd I might be a little delusional when I think that.
Blakely RamseyBut, you know, just having that mindset of, like, okay, I maybe don't like this personality trait about myself, or I don't love that I don't know this skill, or I wish I knew more about this, or I wish I was better at this, or I wish I could do whatever it is.
Blakely RamseyJust having the thought of I can certainly change.
Blakely RamseyThat, I think is really important.
Blakely RamseyAnd it opens up your life to so many opportunities.
Blakely RamseySo just a quick example, I have been scared of paid ads on social media for a long time now.
Blakely RamseyLike, it just seems really overwhelming to me.
Blakely RamseyI have always just kind of when I run an ad, I, you know, throw a hundred bucks at it and call it a day.
Blakely RamseyAnd I feel like I had just kind of retired into a mindset of like, well, I'm just not good at ads.
Blakely RamseyAnd I.
Blakely RamseyI don't know, I literally had such a fixed mindset about it.
Blakely RamseyLike, it was Just one of those things where I just.
Blakely RamseyI wasn't even putting forth any effort to get better at it.
Blakely RamseyAnd, you know, through this year, things have come to me.
Blakely RamseyThings have kind of lined up well.
Blakely RamseyAnd I saw an ad.
Blakely RamseyHilarious that that's how it turned out.
Blakely RamseyBut I saw an ad on the Elevated Edits Instagram feed.
Blakely RamseySo it's funny because my personal feed and my.
Blakely RamseyThe podcast feed are so different.
Blakely RamseyIt's almost like the podcast has its own personality.
Blakely RamseyAnd it's.
Blakely RamseyIt's.
Blakely RamseyI love that feed.
Blakely RamseyWay better.
Blakely RamseyIt's way more inspirational.
Blakely RamseyBut I saw this ad for a summit.
Blakely RamseyLiterally, the only thing the summit is going to cover is paid ads.
Blakely RamseyAnd I went back and forth because the ticket's a little pricey, but I was like, you know what?
Blakely RamseyThis is something that I have really, like, kind of had a fear around.
Blakely RamseyI'm definitely not comfortable with it.
Blakely RamseyAnd it's something that could definitely, you know, take my business, take my brand to the next level.
Blakely RamseyAnd so I bought the ticket, and so, you know, paid for the ticket, got the email confirmation, all the things.
Blakely RamseyAnd I went through the speaker list, and I followed all of the speakers on Instagram.
Blakely RamseyAnd I have actually found a new podcast that I love that I've learned so much from just because I bought the ticket for that course or that summit.
Blakely RamseyAnd so I really do.
Blakely RamseyI think that, like, if you've got that growth mindset, you think you can change, you think you can improve, keep your eyes open, opportunities fall in your lap, and then, like, so many things fall into place under that.
Blakely RamseyAnd like I said, like, I've learned so much from this podcast that I found.
Blakely RamseyI haven't even made it to the summit yet.
Blakely RamseySo I'm really, like, I'm so excited, and I want everyone to experience that growth mindset and think, you know, when problems come up or when issues arise or you run into a situation that you're not good at, or you find something that you fail at, think, how can I grow from this?
Blakely RamseyAnd.
Blakely RamseyOr another way to phrase it is, hey, I tried something and I was really bad at it, but I know I can learn from my mistakes and I can improve next time.
Blakely RamseyA recent failure I've had is that I hope Jessica listens to this episode.
Blakely RamseyI can't ride a bike.
Blakely RamseyAnd I tried to ride my bike around the palace of Versailles, and I failed, and I cried a little bit.
Blakely RamseyBut you know what?
Blakely RamseyI was like, what can I learn from my mistakes to improve next time?
Blakely RamseyAnd I'll know next time maybe I shouldn't book a bike tour through a really busy city in Europe.
Blakely RamseyMaybe the next time I try to ride a bike, we try to ride a bike, you know, like, in Smackover somewhere that's a little slower, a little calmer.
Blakely RamseyWe're gonna have to do.
Blakely RamseyWe're trying to work out when we can do the episode on Paris and Barcelona.
Blakely RamseyBut y'all have got to hear the story about the bike situation, because it was funny from my perspective, because Jessica just knew how to handle me when I was, like, embarrassed.
Blakely RamseyA lot of people don't.
Blakely RamseyThey come on too strong.
Blakely RamseyAnd that makes me, like, I get like a caged animal, like, backed into a corner girl did not even look back over her shoulder.
Blakely RamseyWhen I fell off that pipe, she was gone.
Blakely RamseyShe was like, she's a girl.
Blakely RamseyWoman.
Blakely RamseyOh, it's such a good memory.
Blakely RamseyOkay, I'm sorry.
Blakely RamseyI got sidetracked.
Blakely RamseyI had to giggle at that memory for a second.
Blakely RamseySo key characteristics of a growth mindset.
Blakely RamseyAnd now that I know what a growth mindset is, I can, like, pinpoint it.
Blakely RamseyAnd other people, like, I'm like, oh, wow, they.
Blakely RamseyThey definitely have a growth mindset.
Blakely RamseyLike, that person is like, growth mindset all the way.
Blakely RamseyHave so many friends now that I have, like, studied this and I can put a word to it.
Blakely RamseyThey are like, growth mindset, like, 200%.
Blakely RamseyThey are just, like, shooting for the stars all the time, constantly looking at for opportunities.
Blakely RamseyThey don't take no for an answer.
Blakely RamseyThey don't care if they fail.
Blakely RamseyIf they fail, they're already trying again.
Blakely RamseySo I am fortunate to be surrounded by a lot of people with a growth mindset but key characteristics.
Blakely RamseySo they focus on abundance and opportunity.
Blakely RamseyThey have the mindset that there is enough to go around, that there is always more.
Blakely RamseyThere is no, like, lack in their vocabulary.
Blakely RamseyThere is just abundance of whatever it is that they are needing.
Blakely RamseyAnd there's always opportunity.
Blakely RamseyThey look at challenges as opportunities.
Blakely RamseyThey see failure as feedback, and they really try to always look at the positive in a situation.
Blakely RamseyAnother characteristic is this person believes in constant learning and growth.
Blakely RamseyWe can always change.
Blakely RamseyWe can always improve.
Blakely RamseyWe can always get better.
Blakely RamseyWhatever it is that we are working towards, this one is huge.
Blakely RamseyBut another characteristic is this person has a high awareness of ego.
Blakely RamseySo I have read a lot of books about the ego over the last couple of years, and, you know, it all goes back to self sabotage.
Blakely RamseyBut our ego does not want us to fail because our ego wants us to be comfortable and always look like we know what we're doing and just walk around and basically stay in our comfort zone, not try anything ever, not ever look stupid.
Blakely RamseyAnd it really holds us back.
Blakely RamseySo high awareness of ego is huge.
Blakely RamseyAnd then the last characteristic is this person remains humble and curious.
Blakely RamseyAnd humble kind of goes back to the ego because you do have to be humble to have a growth mindset because you're going to fail a lot, you're going to fail publicly potentially.
Blakely RamseyPeople might make fun of you, they might talk about you, and you just kind of have to put your head down and keep going.
Blakely RamseyAnd then curiosity, always just kind of questioning things, trying to see what's around the corner.
Blakely RamseyHow can we change this?
Blakely RamseyWhat would it look like if we did it this way?
Blakely RamseyJust always searching for new ideas.
Blakely RamseySo with all this, y'all know I am all about taking elevated action.
Blakely RamseySo let's discuss how you can cultivate a growth mindset yourself.
Blakely RamseyAs always, awareness is my first step.
Blakely RamseyYou truly cannot change anything until you are aware of it in the first place.
Blakely RamseySo with this situation, notice when you're in a stuck mind, when you're stuck in a fixed mindset and don't expect yourself to be perfect, like just aim to be aware of it.
Blakely RamseyYou know, if you, if you hear yourself going like if there's something you really want and you ask for it, like say you want a raise and you meet with your boss and your boss is like, well, you know that whatever they say, not the right time, we don't feel like you deserve it.
Blakely RamseyDon't take that as just like a complete and final no.
Blakely RamseyJust say, you know, look at it as an opportunity.
Blakely RamseyLook at it as something, okay, well, I maybe need to try something different.
Blakely RamseyI need to create a new system at work.
Blakely RamseyI need to provide a new, you know, set of values or I might need to find a new job.
Blakely RamseyAnd that kind of leads into the next one which is reframing your thoughts to how can I learn from this?
Blakely RamseyInstead of going from that fixed mindset where when you mess up, you see it as a failure, you see you just like down in yourself, you look at it and say, how can I grow so that I can improve on this next time?
Blakely RamseySo awareness, reframing your thoughts and then this next one is really important and it's really hard, especially if you've got people in your life that you're very close with, that you love.
Blakely RamseyBut you have to surround yourself with growth minded people.
Blakely RamseyThis has been such a game changer for me this year.
Blakely RamseyI have built an accountability group and I'll Say that again.
Blakely RamseyI have built an accountability group.
Blakely RamseyI had to be very intentional with it.
Blakely RamseyI had to pay to get in rooms.
Blakely RamseyI had to pay to get some of these people's time.
Blakely RamseyI had to invest.
Blakely RamseyIt wasn't, oh, well, I'm just going to sit here and hope that people with a growth mindset come and hang out with me.
Blakely RamseyLike, I was very intentional.
Blakely RamseyI was very specific about this.
Blakely RamseyBut having an accountability group that is very honest and that has a growth mindset is so massive, because I think, what is the phrase where you are the.
Blakely RamseyLike, if you want to see what your life is going to be like in five years, look at the five people that you hang out with the most.
Blakely RamseyAnd that's so true.
Blakely RamseyAnd look, it's not.
Blakely RamseyThis is a warning.
Blakely RamseyIt is not always easy hanging out with people with a growth mindset because a lot of times they will push you farther than you want to go.
Blakely RamseyLike, when you hang out with people that have a fixed mindset and you're complaining about your job or the price of groceries, countries, or the economy or the president, those people are going to be like, oh, I know, it's so awful.
Blakely RamseyOh, my goodness.
Blakely RamseyOh, whoa.
Blakely RamseyOh, there's nothing we can do.
Blakely RamseyOh, we just have to sit over here and just, oh, poor us.
Blakely RamseyWhen you start hanging out with people with a growth mindset, it's like, okay, yeah, economy's not great.
Blakely RamseyOkay, whatever.
Blakely RamseyI'm not gonna get political on this podcast.
Blakely RamseyBut they're like, okay, now what can we do about it?
Blakely RamseyLike, that's cool.
Blakely RamseyThat's an external.
Blakely RamseyAn external situation.
Blakely RamseyBut what are we going to do to move forward?
Blakely RamseyHow are we going to reframe our thoughts?
Blakely RamseyUse this as an opportunity?
Blakely RamseyHow are we going to grow?
Blakely RamseyHow are we going to learn from this?
Blakely RamseyAnd so hanging out with people that have a growth mindset can literally change your life more than almost any other.
Blakely RamseySelf development, personal development, whatever it is, hack or tactic or habit that you're trying to implement, like, that can be the game changer for you, and it's huge.
Blakely RamseyAnd with that, you want to make sure that you are distancing.
Blakely RamseyDistancing.
Blakely RamseyCan't speak today.
Blakely RamseyDistancing yourself from negativity and fixed mindset.
Blakely RamseyOne way that I have really tried to intentionally do this lately is deleting Facebook from my phone.
Blakely RamseyI can still access it from my computer, but, you know, it's not as fun to get and scroll on your computer.
Blakely RamseyUm, and I found that I only, like, check it once or twice a week, and I get on there and I'm just like, this is not the vibe.
Blakely RamseyAnd I get right back off.
Blakely RamseySo that one has been huge.
Blakely RamseyJust kind of staying away from the negativity, staying away from people who constantly want to complain and do nothing about it.
Blakely RamseyIt can really kind of pull you closer to you having your own growth mindset.
Blakely RamseyAnd last but not least, express gratitude daily.
Blakely RamseyWhat you focus on grows, so focus on the good.
Blakely RamseyI want to say that again, what we focus on grows, so focus on the good.
Blakely RamseyIf you're constantly focusing on negative problems issues, you're constantly going to have negative problems issues.
Blakely RamseyBut if you focus on abundance and opportunity and joy, that's what you're going to find.
Blakely RamseySo be thankful for what is right in front of you and you'll get more of it.
Blakely RamseyI try.
Blakely RamseyI've tried lately to every day thankful for my husband and our cats and our other animals in our house.
Blakely RamseyAnd then I just keep going on and on and on because I definitely want to keep all of the good things in my life and I want more of them.
Blakely RamseyI do.
Blakely RamseyI want all the good things.
Blakely RamseyAnd remember that small shifts lead to big changes.
Blakely RamseySo start where you are.
Blakely RamseyDon't get down on yourself if you aren't perfect at this right away.
Blakely RamseyDon't get down on yourself if all of a sudden you start paying attention and you realize that you have a fixed mindset about 90% of the things in your life.
Blakely RamseyAwareness is the first step.
Blakely RamseyAwareness is the, in my opinion, most important step because you can't fix something that you don't know.
Blakely RamseyYou can't fix something you're not aware of.
Blakely RamseyAnd don't be scared.
Blakely RamseyDon't be scared to, like, look at your mindset and look at how you're looking at things.
Blakely RamseyIt's really important and it can be a total game changer for you.
Blakely RamseyHope you got a little something out of this episode.
Blakely RamseyThat's my hope.
