Valerie:

: Ready for today's episode? Then let's go.

Valerie:

Hey, gorgeous.

Valerie:

Welcome back to aging with grace and style.

Valerie:

This month, we're diving into the world of self love.

Valerie:

And today we're tackling something that many of us have a complicated relationship with.

Valerie:

It's our skin.

Valerie:

As we get older, the ways we think about

Valerie:

beauty and skincare may naturally shift.

Valerie:

It's easy to get caught up in fighting

Valerie:

wrinkles and chasing that youthful glow.

Valerie:

But I want us to change that mindset.

Valerie:

What if instead of fighting or trying to hide or reverse the signs of aging, we learn to

Valerie:

embrace the skin that we're in and to nourish it?

Valerie:

After all, it's our largest organ.

Valerie:

It does amazing things for us.

Valerie:

And skincare isn't just about looking younger.

Valerie:

It's about prioritizing your well being and

Valerie:

connecting with your body.

Valerie:

Taking the time each day for a simple skincare

Valerie:

routine, it becomes meditative, a chance to focus on yourself.

Valerie:

It's an act of self love.

Valerie:

And believe it or not, taking care of your

Valerie:

skin.

Valerie:

It doesn't have to be complicated.

Valerie:

So let's dive into some foundational skincare tips that are pretty simple.

Valerie:

Tip number one, simplicity is key in a world where beauty routine can feel overwhelming.

Valerie:

There's beauty in simplicity.

Valerie:

There's no need for those elaborate multi step

Valerie:

routines unless you just love them.

Valerie:

Years ago, when I was a Mary Kay beauty

Valerie:

consultant, one thing I learned was the importance of focusing on the basics.

Valerie:

That's a gentle cleanser, hydrating moisturizer, and, of course, sunscreen.

Valerie:

This alone builds a solid foundation.

Valerie:

A gentle cleanser should be your first step.

Valerie:

It sets the stage for everything else.

Valerie:

Look for cleansers that are ph balanced to

Valerie:

maintain your skin's natural barrier.

Valerie:

Next would be a hydrating moisturizer, which

Valerie:

is essential, especially ones with cermidides.

Valerie:

Now let's talk about what cermidides are.

Valerie:

They're lipids that make up about 50% of your epidermis, which is the outer layer of your

Valerie:

skin.

Valerie:

As we age, our skin can't replenish its

Valerie:

natural thermidides as quickly as when we were younger.

Valerie:

So synthetic thermidides are added to moisturizers and to serums and other products

Valerie:

to give your skin that extra boost that it needs.

Valerie:

For instance, products like cerave moisturizer or clinique moisture surge contain cermidides.

Valerie:

There are also peptides, which are small proteins that are said to help with fine lines

Valerie:

and wrinkles.

Valerie:

And don't forget the sunscreen, it's your

Valerie:

skin's best friend.

Valerie:

Opt for mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or

Valerie:

titanium dioxide for gentle yet effective protection.

Valerie:

These steps are your non negotiables for maintaining skin health.

Valerie:

Tip number two ingredients matter.

Valerie:

Don't let pretty packaging fool you with the

Valerie:

beauty industry bombarding us with endless product options, focusing on key ingredients

Valerie:

rather than brand hype can guide you to the best choices for your skin.

Valerie:

Hyaluronic acid is a powerhouse for hydration.

Valerie:

It draws in moisture into the skin for that

Valerie:

plump, youthful look.

Valerie:

Vitamin C is your goto for brightening and

Valerie:

evening out your skin tone.

Valerie:

Plus, it offers antioxidant protection.

Valerie:

Antioxidants like vitamin e and green tea extract fight environmental damage and reduce

Valerie:

inflammation.

Valerie:

And for those who have sensitive skin, steer

Valerie:

clear from harsh fragrances and alcohol, ingredients that often lead to irritation and

Valerie:

dryness.

Valerie:

Tip three hydration is key hydration is the

Valerie:

cornerstone of healthy, vibrant skin drinking water throughout the day.

Valerie:

It helps to flush toxins and ensures your skin cells are hydrated, giving your skin a natural

Valerie:

glow.

Valerie:

I was reminded of the importance of water when

Valerie:

I went through this period of not drinking it or not drinking enough water.

Valerie:

Boy, my skin to include my face, it was so dry.

Valerie:

Like, I mean super dry.

Valerie:

Well, I got back on the water bandwagon and it

Valerie:

did get better.

Valerie:

I can really tell a difference now in how my

Valerie:

skin feels.

Valerie:

And you can tell when your skin is hydrated.

Valerie:

While water is super important, external hydration matters too.

Valerie:

So look for moisturizers with glycerin or hyaluronic acid, where the ingredients are

Valerie:

known for their ability to attract and seal in moisture.

Valerie:

And don't overlook the power of a good facial mist.

Valerie:

It's really a refreshing way to keep your skin hydrated on the go.

Valerie:

Cauddily has a good, moisturizing face mist.

Valerie:

Keeping our skin hydrated is like giving it a

Valerie:

big, refreshing drink on a hot day.

Valerie:

That's pretty simple, right?

Valerie:

And just as we feel rejuvenated, so does our skin.

Valerie:

Now, speaking of rejuvenation, let's talk about our skin's amazing journey.

Valerie:

It's been with us through every smile, every sunbeam, every little moment of life.

Valerie:

Our skin changes as we grow, and that's perfectly natural.

Valerie:

It's all part of the beautiful process of learning and loving our experiences.

Valerie:

Those laughter lines, they're a testament to joy.

Valerie:

The changes that we see as we age, like increased dryness or sensitivity, are natural

Valerie:

shifts.

Valerie:

Embrace skincare products that address these

Valerie:

changes head on.

Valerie:

Richer moisturizers, gentle exfoliants like

Valerie:

lactic acid, and nourishing face oils can all play a role in supporting your skin's evolving

Valerie:

needs.

Valerie:

Remember, skin care is about providing your

Valerie:

skin with what it needs to thrive at this moment in your life.

Valerie:

Exploring skincare lines that cater specifically to mature skin can be a game

Valerie:

changer.

Valerie:

Now, a couple of my favorite lines are kills

Valerie:

and caudaly.

Valerie:

Those are my go tos.

Valerie:

But I've recently started to use products from fenty skin.

Valerie:

I'm using the total cleanser, the hydra visor invisible moisturizer, peptide eye cream, and

Valerie:

the cookies and cream detox mask.

Valerie:

I really like the mask.

Valerie:

I've only been using the products for a few weeks, but so far so good.

Valerie:

Their hydrovisor moisturizer.

Valerie:

It's a standout.

Valerie:

It's lightweight, it has SPF 30, and it's designed to work well under makeup or on its

Valerie:

own, making it a fantastic daily staple for anyone looking to nourish their skin

Valerie:

effectively.

Valerie:

Now, let's move on to tip number four.

Valerie:

Nutrition is beauty.

Valerie:

Our diet plays a pivotal role in our skin's

Valerie:

health.

Valerie:

Incorporating a rainbow of fruits and

Valerie:

vegetables ensures that you're getting a broad spectrum of vitamins and antioxidants that

Valerie:

support skin health.

Valerie:

Foods high in omega three fatty acids like

Valerie:

salmon and walnuts can help maintain your skin's lipid barrier, which is vital to

Valerie:

retaining moisture and elasticity.

Valerie:

And tip number five is prioritize sleep.

Valerie:

Getting enough rest is a nonnegotiable for skin health.

Valerie:

During sleep, our skin goes into repair mode, generating new cells and shedding old ones,

Valerie:

establishing a soothing pre bedtime routine.

Valerie:

It can enhance your sleep quality, dim the

Valerie:

lights, disconnect from screens, and maybe even indulge in a gentle, relaxing skincare

Valerie:

routine to signal to your body that it's time to wind down.

Valerie:

Now, this remains a challenge for me.

Valerie:

I fall asleep with the tv, I nap a little, I

Valerie:

wake up, I watch more tv, specifically law and order, and I go back to sleep.

Valerie:

I know this is in no way good for me, but last week I actually started to change things up.

Valerie:

I did have the tv on, but only until about eleven.

Valerie:

And then I turned it off and listened to a guided meditation that put me to sleep.

Valerie:

I really did feel more refreshed and rested in the morning when I woke up.

Valerie:

Good sleep helps our bodies manage stress better, and the mind skin connection, well, it

Valerie:

really is real.

Valerie:

Stress or negative emotions can worsen

Valerie:

skincare conditions for many.

Valerie:

So remember that mind skin connection is real.

Valerie:

And there we have it, a few golden nuggets on how to cherish the skin that you're in,

Valerie:

recognizing it as an ally in your journey of self love.

Valerie:

It's about more than just creams and serums.

Valerie:

It's about honoring your body story and

Valerie:

treating yourself with kindness at every turn.

Valerie:

Celebrate the amazing things your skin does

Valerie:

for you every single day.

Valerie:

As we wrap up today's chat, I hope that you

Valerie:

feel inspired to look at your skin care routine not just as daily maintenance, but as

Valerie:

a daily celebration of your unique beauty.

Valerie:

Remember, every day is opportunity to nourish

Valerie:

your skin and in doing so, nourish your soul.

Valerie:

The next time you look in the mirror, I

Valerie:

challenge you to be kind to the reflection.

Valerie:

Before we say goodbye, I'd love to hear your

Valerie:

thoughts.
