Speaker A

Welcome to the Elevated Edit, the weekly reset for ambitious women who are done with chaos and ready to actually follow through.

Speaker A

I'm your host, Blakely Ramsey, strategist, systems girl and execution coach for entrepreneurs who want structure that sells in a business that feels like peace.

Speaker A

Here, we don't chase hustle, we edit what matters.

Speaker A

Let's get into it.

Speaker A

I'm going to let you in on a little truth that I have recently had to learn.

Speaker A

And it's not really fun to hear, but the truth is you probably don't need more ideas or better ideas.

Speaker A

You just need to make peace with doing the boring work.

Speaker A

In this episode, I am pulling back the curtain on what actually moves the needle in a business and why so many high achieving women actually sabotage their results by chasing dopamine over discipline.

Speaker A

So if you've ever felt like you're stuck or spiraling or starting over, every single week, this episode is your reality check and your reset.

Speaker A

Okay?

Speaker A

Like I said, this is a lesson that I have recently learned.

Speaker A

There is so much glorification when it comes to hustle and when it comes to launches and when it comes to being super busy and all this chaos, you know, it, it's kind of that next big move energy where you just feel like you're getting so much done.

Speaker A

And a lot of us entrepreneurs, especially high achieving female entrepreneurs, we crave overstimulation.

Speaker A

Like it gives us proof that we're in it.

Speaker A

We're in the trenches, we're doing the thing, we're making waves, we're making moves, we're, you know, it's stress, it's chaos, it's anxiety, it's uncertainty.

Speaker A

You know, we're just coming up with all these ideas and we're in ChatGPT and we're brainstorming all the things and it can feel, feel really good, but there is almost a lie that we have internalized and the lies that if it feels boring, it must not be working.

Speaker A

But as I have been very open and honest with you, I have invested a lot of money this year.

Speaker A

I've gotten myself in high level rooms.

Speaker A

I have changed the books that I've read, the podcasts that I've listened to.

Speaker A

And one of the things that I am starting to realize is that the most successful people, especially women, they are doing the same thing every single day.

Speaker A

They are talking about the same message, they are talking about the same product, they have the same focus, they have the same vision day in and day out.

Speaker A

Now, their content or the way that they package the message might look different, but in general, they are like, on one lane.

Speaker A

They're talking about one thing, thing all of the time.

Speaker A

And the truth is, boring is not always bad.

Speaker A

Boring can sometimes just be repeatable.

Speaker A

But boring is also bankable.

Speaker A

Like, boring can fill up a bank account very, very quickly.

Speaker A

And so today I want to talk about what actually moves the needle.

Speaker A

And oftentimes it is unsexy and it is not fun, because we do want to chase the fun.

Speaker A

We want that dopamine hit of something new and something exciting.

Speaker A

You know, we came up with this new idea.

Speaker A

We're chasing a new vis.

Speaker A

Pivoting.

Speaker A

Pivot, pivot, pivot.

Speaker A

You know, if you haven't ever watched the Friends episode, you need to look it up.

Speaker A

You'll know what I'm talking about.

Speaker A

But we do chase stimulation over stimulation so much because it can easily make you feel like you're making progress.

Speaker A

I know that is where I fall oftentimes, is I am someone who is addicted to feeling like I'm making progress.

Speaker A

And sometimes for me, if I sat down with my notebook and chatgpt and some espresso, and I'm just coming up with all these great ideas and, you know, I'm going back and forth and I've got my Google Docs and my notion and all the things pulled up, and I've just got sheets and pages of ideas that I can feel really, really good.

Speaker A

But then if I do that five days in a row, you know, I get to the end of the week, I'm like, did I actually get anything done or just did I just sit around here and, you know, come up with ideas, essentially?

Speaker A

And one of my coaches and she's someone that I really, really look up to.

Speaker A

One of the things I've studied with her, because she is on stories every single day.

Speaker A

She's on stories on her business page and on her personal page, and she talks about the same thing every single day.

Speaker A

Now, she's wildly smart about it.

Speaker A

She looks for different ways to package it.

Speaker A

She's always reading different kind of books, but she has turned her reticular activating system onto one thing.

Speaker A

And so everywhere she looks, she finds ways to magnify her one message, because that is all she thinks about.

Speaker A

She is quite literally obsessed with it.

Speaker A

So when she is having a conversation with a client or, you know, someone at her kid's school, or she's watching a movie or she's reading a book, like, she's constantly looking for ways to amplify her one message, and that's something that I have really struggled with if I'm being totally honest this year, because in the past, I will, you know, something will work.

Speaker A

And I'm like, okay, that's cool.

Speaker A

Let me move on to the next thing.

Speaker A

Instead of just leaning into what works and sticking with that one message, I will, like, jet off in multiple different directions.

Speaker A

And if I'm being totally honest, even with this podcast, you know, there was a while where I was like, oh, I've got, you know, therapist on.

Speaker A

And then we're talking about, you know, this over here, we're talking about this over here.

Speaker A

But when I zoned in and I started talking about business strategy and nervous system regulation in terms of entrepreneurs started speaking directly, directly to one person and focusing on one thing and one message, my subscribers went up, my downloads went up.

Speaker A

You know, my engagement in terms of podcast listeners went way up.

Speaker A

And for me, I'm not gonna lie, sometimes the podcast topics get so boring because I feel like I'm talking about one thing all of the time.

Speaker A

And it does get so boring.

Speaker A

But like she told me, she said, blakely, you've got to think the people that are listening to you, they're listening to thousands of other things too.

Speaker A

Like, for you, you are talking about this one thing from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed, they might listen to maybe 10 to 15 minutes of you all day long.

Speaker A

And so it doesn't matter if you talk about one thing, like, that's what they come to you for.

Speaker A

And that was such a shift for me in terms of the way that I thought about content and the podcast and really honest, the direction for my business, to think of talking about one thing all the time and realizing that, you know, even you listening, you're probably going to go listen to another podcast after this.

Speaker A

You're going to go, you know, intake some other kind of content.

Speaker A

And I think it's so difficult as creatives, as a creative who is also an entrepreneur, to consistently talk about the same thing over and over and over again.

Speaker A

But the truth is, the things that actually move the needle are often very, very boring.

Speaker A

So writing the same direct message 20 times, you know, you're maybe you've got warm leads and you're reaching out to them.

Speaker A

Writing the same message over and over and over and over and over again can be so boring.

Speaker A

Even though it works, there is that, like, urge and that draw to, like, try something new, like, oh, I want to be creative.

Speaker A

But if you found something that works, the first person that you DM and the 19th person that you DM, they're not going to know the difference, you know, and so that can be so difficult to, like, send the same direct message that, you know, works over and over and over again.

Speaker A

Reposting the same reels with updated captions.

Speaker A

When someone told me this, it broke my brain a little bit.

Speaker A

Like this one girl that I follow, she said, blakely, you know that I just repost the same reels every few months.

Speaker A

I just changed the caption, right?

Speaker A

And I was like, no, I had no clue.

Speaker A

And, and I follow her consistently.

Speaker A

Like, I like all of her stuff.

Speaker A

And she was like, yeah, most people, most people feel like, oh, I've got to come up with creative content.

Speaker A

I've got to come up with something brand new all the time each time.

Speaker A

But the truth is, is your audience, they're overstimulated with so much, they're not going to remember that you posted this exact same reel.

Speaker A

She said, you know, now I'll put different overlay, I'll do a different caption, I'll have a different cover photo.

Speaker A

She said, but essentially I same thing over and over and over again.

Speaker A

And this is the same with, you know, links that you're.

Speaker A

Maybe you've got a product and you're posting the same links in your story over and over and over again.

Speaker A

You have the shape, the same shutdown ritual at the end of the day, you have the same startup ritual at the beginning of the day.

Speaker A

And then reviewing and adjusting what worked instead of always building something new can really help you just hone in and get so laser focused.

Speaker A

And like I said, it can help activate that reticular activating system to where when you, it's like if you.

Speaker A

For me, like, when I bought my Jeep, I had not really noticed any white Jeeps before.

Speaker A

And then all of a sudden I buy a white Jeep and everybody on the planet, it seemed, was driving a white Jeep.

Speaker A

And it wasn't really that all these people went out and bought a white Jeep the same day I did.

Speaker A

But because I had my sights set on white jeeps, because I had just bought one, I started noticing them everywhere.

Speaker A

And that's the same way with your reticular activating system.

Speaker A

If you're talking about one thing all the time, you'll start to notice it everywhere.

Speaker A

And then you'll find all this content that you can talk about about that one thing that you didn't notice before.

Speaker A

And that's just one of the best things I think, that my coaches have instilled in me this year is you have got to get so bored with your content.

Speaker A

You have got to remain so focused on one thing that you go, okay, I'm tired of talking about this one thing in this one way.

Speaker A

How can I talk about this one thing in a different way?

Speaker A

And for me, at least, that has been massive for my business.

Speaker A

And kind of finding that Blue Ocean strategy in terms of coming up with something original is not, you know, changing what I'm talking about all the time, but just changing how I've talked about that.

Speaker A

And I think for me at least, this has been a really hard shift mentally this year, because it can be difficult to become the woman who repeats herself.

Speaker A

And I think for me, I almost felt a little like I was no longer being genuine.

Speaker A

There was this guilt of, man, if I'm not coming up with something new all the time, then why are people going to listen to me?

Speaker A

Why would they follow me on social media?

Speaker A

But what I've realized is I have built up this trust and this confidence because I am talking about one thing all of the time now.

Speaker A

You know, I am like, this podcast is focused on entrepreneurs.

Speaker A

My shutdown routine is focused on one thing.

Speaker A

And then now that I am getting heavily back into real estate, I am focusing my real estate business on one thing, and it just leads to a deeper level of knowledge and understanding.

Speaker A

And like I said, self trust.

Speaker A

You can talk with so much power and so much conviction if you are week after week, day after day, talking about one thing.

Speaker A

And for me, boring work has exposed my real beliefs.

Speaker A

You know, like, do you trust that the simple stuff works?

Speaker A

And that has been really scary because, like I said, I was someone before who chased dopamine.

Speaker A

So I was like, oh, let me talk about this, let me talk about that, let me talk about this, let me talk about that.

Speaker A

And I had mentioned on the podcast a couple of months ago, maybe when it happened, that one of my coaches looked at my Instagram account and she said, blakely, like, I'm gonna say this with as much love as I can, but your Instagram account is all over the place.

Speaker A

Like, you're talking about, you know, your husband here and this here and that here.

Speaker A

And if someone lands on your page and they don't know you, how are they supposed to know what your message is?

Speaker A

And I pushed back a little bit.

Speaker A

I was like, yeah, but I want to, you know, I want to show the different layers and the different levels, and I want to bring my personal life.

Speaker A

And she said, that is totally fine, but.

Speaker A

But center it around her one message.

Speaker A

She Said, like, make every piece of content have an impact.

Speaker A

And it's just been so wild for me to think in that way.

Speaker A

And that's why I'm bringing this to you today when I'm kind of in the messy middle of it.

Speaker A

And it is not totally perfect.

Speaker A

Because if you are in that position too where you're getting bored with your content and you're getting bored with, you know, feeling like you're talking about the same thing over and over and over again, I want you to know that you're not alone, but that boring work is what is going to build trust with your audience.

Speaker A

It's going to build trust with you, it's going to build your credibility.

Speaker A

You're going to have that self trust.

Speaker A

And one of the things that, you know, my coach said as well, she said, think of the Instagram accounts that you always watch their stories.

Speaker A

And so I visualized, I was like, okay, I'm thinking about one.

Speaker A

She said, do you have an Instagram account where if they are face to cam on their stories, you are likely, if you're in a busy place, you're like, oh, I'm going to save their stories for later.

Speaker A

Like, I'm not going to watch their stories.

Speaker A

I'm going to have it pop up the next time that I open my phone.

Speaker A

I'm like, absolutely.

Speaker A

There is one account in particular that their stories are always so interesting and value packed and they make my brain shift a little bit and I always save their stories.

Speaker A

And she goes, okay, are they always talking about the same thing?

Speaker A

And I said, well, technically.

Speaker A

And because I got to spinning my wheels, I was like, yeah, you know what, at the end of the day, they craft their message in a different way, but their message is always about one thing.

Speaker A

It is always so consistent.

Speaker A

She said, I promise.

Speaker A

They have felt bored.

Speaker A

They have felt like they are talking about the same thing over and over and over and over again.

Speaker A

And I actually went back on the same particular account that I'm thinking of.

Speaker A

I went back four or five years and they have been talking about the same exact thing for at least five years.

Speaker A

That was as far back as I went.

Speaker A

And that just, it just made me think so differently.

Speaker A

And that's what I'm hoping to bring to you today too.

Speaker A

If you were in this season where you're building something or maybe you've been in it a few years and you're getting so bored with your message and so bored with your content, I just encourage you to keep going and lean into it even more, you know, How.

Speaker A

How can you talk about the same thing in a different way?

Speaker A

Can you read a different kind of book?

Speaker A

Like, maybe you're consuming so much content in one way.

Speaker A

Maybe look at your one thing in a different way.

Speaker A

Read a book that challenges you.

Speaker A

Read a book that is a little bit outside of your typical comfort zone and let your particular activating system look for that, whether you're trying to sell a product or a service or whatever it is.

Speaker A

Like, look for unique and interesting ways to talk about your product in a new way, instead of feeling like you need to pivot.

Speaker A

And like I said, I think as female entrepreneurs, especially with ChatGPT and TikTok and Instagram and all the things, there are so many ideas and so many different directions we can go.

Speaker A

And it can feel so exciting to want to do all of the things all at once and try all the things, but really the power for you is in continuing to talk about one thing over and over and over and over and over again.

Speaker A

And it might take you some time to find what that one thing is, but once you do, just lock in and stick to it for six months a year, and you'll start to see results.

Speaker A

Because that is what I have done.

Speaker A

I think I'm about 2ish months into showing up consistently on social media and talking about the same thing every single day.

Speaker A

And when I look at the first part of 2025, like the first quarter, I was kind of scattered and all over the place.

Speaker A

And then when I look at the second quarter, when I talked about one specific thing, it was like the floodgates opened up.

Speaker A

My, you know, I started getting way more engagement on social media.

Speaker A

I started getting way more DMs.

Speaker A

I had way more people sign up for my email newsletter.

Speaker A

And it was iron because there were so many times where I'm like, man, this is so boring.

Speaker A

Like, everybody's gonna unfollow me because they're going to be like, who is this girl and why does she keep talking about the same thing over and over and over again?

Speaker A

But what I realized was for the people that did unfollow me, so many people were following me that were like, oh, I want to talk.

Speaker A

I want to hear about that exact thing.

Speaker A

I want to hear about that one thing over again.

Speaker A

I want to hear her dive deep into this one topic.

Speaker A

And it really has, you know, like I said, it's changed the way that I think.

Speaker A

And I encourage you to think about that as well.

Speaker A

If you're someone who gets bored easily, if you have shiny object syndrome.

Speaker A

If you feel like you're constantly pivoting and constantly changing, just pick one thing and go in on it.

Speaker A

Doesn't mean you're gonna have to talk about that thing forever.

Speaker A

But I do think that the more that you dive into one specific thing, the more layers that you uncover and the more depth that you bring to your business and your content and whatever it is that you are bringing to the public.

Speaker A

Because you don't have to be on, like, you don't always have to be, like, electric with this launch energy.

Speaker A

You can be consistent and be boring.

Speaker A

And what I'm finding when I'm studying these high level entrepreneurs is that fills up their bank account way faster than anything else.

Speaker A

Okay, I hope that was value for you.

Speaker A

I was really excited to talk about this because like I said, this is something that I am currently working on and I'm currently in the middle of.

Speaker A

And I think oftentimes, at least a podcast that I listen to, it is very like, oh, the person that's speaking is way ahead of me, and they're so perfect, and I can never attain that.

Speaker A

And so I always, if I am struggling with something, I want to bring it to you as well.

Speaker A

So that way you can be like, oh, Blakely's right here with me on this.

Speaker A

And so I'm trying to work on not feeling bored.

Speaker A

It is a an urgency, it is a draw that I'm always like, oh, I want to talk about fashion.

Speaker A

Oh, I want to talk about makeup.

Speaker A

Oh, I want to talk about this.

Speaker A

I want to talk about that.

Speaker A

I want to talk about whatever it is.

Speaker A

And staying in my lane and focusing on one thing is really hard.

Speaker A

So I hope that we, you can relate and that we are in this together.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker A

If you are ready to romanticize the boring and stabilize all your routines and execute like the business owner that you are, I encourage you to go check out Hot Girl shutdown.

Speaker A
