Speaker A

Foreign.

Speaker B

And welcome to the Pat Accounting Podcast with me, your host, Vicki Clark.

Speaker B

I'm going to help you get to grips with your finances, save you lots of money and take the stress out of doing your tax return.

Speaker B

So let's get going.

Speaker B

Hello, hello, we are live.

Speaker B

Welcome, everybody, to our slightly delayed Wednesday afternoon live on a Thursday afternoon today.

Speaker B

If you're new to our live podcast, my name is Vicki and I'm one half of the Pet accountant.

Speaker B

And I'm joined here by the lovely Tegan, who is our sales manager from the pet accountant.

Speaker B

Don't worry, we are not going to be talking about sales today, so everyone can relax.

Speaker B

Welcome to the new members.

Speaker B

Over the last few weeks, we are an accountancy firm.

Speaker B

Sometimes you do get asked questions about, does anyone know an accountant?

Speaker B

We are an accountancy firm.

Speaker B

We do cover the whole of the UK and we're probably maybe the only one that fully specialises in the pet industry.

Speaker B

I think there's a few out there that sort of dabble in it, but don't do as much as we do today.

Speaker B

I thought it would be really important to.

Speaker B

To get Tegan on because some of you do know, some of you don't.

Speaker B

Tegan used to be a dog groomer before we poached her at Crofts to come and work with us.

Speaker B

So there's a lot of things that Tegan, you know, says she did really well when she first started.

Speaker B

Some things if she was to go back and do it again, that she might do differently.

Speaker B

And obviously there's a lot of people starting out that find daunting and I think even if you're a groomer, a walker, a boarder, a trainer, then everything that Tegan is sort of going to go through today.

Speaker B

Hello, Lee.

Speaker B

Is going to be relevant to you guys, regardless what.

Speaker B

What you do, because it all sort of is business related.

Speaker B

So, yeah, without further ado, welcome.

Speaker B

Lovely Tegan.

Speaker B

You saw last week, actually.

Speaker B

Was it last week or the week before?

Speaker A

Oh, and you asked me to come back on.

Speaker A

I was thinking again, I talk about.

Speaker B

I know, but I don't know if that is.

Speaker B

No, she doesn't.

Speaker B

If anyone's been on the floor to Tegan, we'll probably be here for quite a while, but we will limit the live to about half an hour.

Speaker B

If anyone's got any questions for Tegan, then please pop them in the comments or myself or Lee, because he's watching and we will aim to answer them even if they're not related to what we're talking about.

Speaker B

But don't Mind the odd questions.

Speaker B

So please just throw them in and we'll get on with it.

Speaker B

So do you want to just tell everyone?

Speaker B

Because I say some people might not know what you did prior to the pet accountant and how you started up.

Speaker B

Like just a bit of a background to set the scene.

Speaker A

So I was a dog groomer.

Speaker A

I was home based.

Speaker A

I grew up around dog grooming for a lot of my life because my mum was a dog groomer.

Speaker A

But I decided at 18 years old to move out of home and go and set up on my own.

Speaker A

So I converted my garage, I went and trained and did my city and guilds and then yeah, I grew my business.

Speaker A

I had it for just under five years.

Speaker A

So that's what I did.

Speaker A

Was a home based dog groomer one to one doing a lot of.

Speaker A

As a lot of one to one groomers do do it this way because you are able to offer like a personal service and deal with a lot of dogs that are maybe nervous or react with other dogs so they can't go in a salon like pets at home where there's loads around.

Speaker A

So I did it like one to one and specialize in like very nervous or reactive dogs.

Speaker B

And did you have any business experience before you did that?

Speaker A

No.

Speaker B

Which is absolutely fine.

Speaker B

A lot of people don't.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

So I'd say like I had my mom obviously, but it was, it's very different when it's your business, you run it the way you want to run it.

Speaker A

Everybody's got to run the businesses differently.

Speaker A

I did my sitting guilds and they taught me how to, to groom dogs and you know, all the things like that, like the practical side of stuff.

Speaker A

But I feel like when I set up my business I didn't even know how to register with hmrc, you know, I didn't know what attached term was and what I needed to do.

Speaker A

And I know a lot of people are in like in that boat when they start as well.

Speaker A

I think that's completely normal.

Speaker A

It is very daunting because it's not just the room, is it?

Speaker A

It's everything else that comes with it.

Speaker A

You know, your, your record keeping and your admin and your bookings and everything else.

Speaker A

So yeah, I learned the hard way, I'd say on things that I did and shouldn't have done and should have done sooner.

Speaker A

But I think that's.

Speaker B

So let us know then.

Speaker B

I'm going to touch on that.

Speaker B

The things that.

Speaker B

What did you do then that if you knew what you knew now you do definitely like just a Couple of like important things.

Speaker B

I know one of them you mentioned to me earlier was the pricing side 100%.

Speaker A

So I had this idea in my head that when I set up my home based business I couldn't charge the same as my mum who had a bigger salon or pets at home because I didn't have as many expenses when actually you know, I was offering like a more personable service like you know, and I thought I had to like price myself lower but and then it was harder to bring them prices up to where they needed to be over the next year or two.

Speaker A

So I definitely wouldn't have price myself at that point.

Speaker B

So how did you come up with your prices then?

Speaker B

Was it just kind of did you just make it up or did you just sort of look at pets at home, go right, I'll charge a fiber cheaper.

Speaker A

No.

Speaker A

So I did research because I actually went through the Prince's Trust when I set up my business and they actually like a little Dragon's Den pitch to them and say like do my research and I'd look and there was a lot of groomers where I was based in like Birmingham, they, that were charging a lot lower than my mom was.

Speaker A

And I get it is it can be based on your area and I know a lot of people say that but that's the, the mistake I made.

Speaker A

I based it on all the other home based groomers around there and not on what the value I was offering and what I should have charged because of the worth of the service, if that makes sense.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

Or understanding what you actually need to make.

Speaker A

Yeah, literally.

Speaker A

Literally I just was like, oh well everyone else is charging that and looking back I don't know how they're even, you know these were home based rumors and they all seem to be charging less than the biggest salons did because I'd ring around pretending I had a Shih Tzu and how much would it be to groom it.

Speaker A

But you know, I did the research but still didn't do it right.

Speaker B

So yeah, I see a lot of people in the group saying, you know, how much should I charge for this or how to do my prices?

Speaker B

And I think to base it off everyone else, you don't know.

Speaker B

Like you could have 10 dog groomers in your area, nine of them could be millionaires and just doing it as a hobby.

Speaker B

You other one might not have a clue what they're doing and then you're basing your prices off them.

Speaker B

Like you need to know what your overheads are, you know what profit you need to make.

Speaker B

To make a living, you know, what's going to cover all your overheads and then work it backwards that way, rather than trying to go, well, I've got 20 dog groomers in my area, they're all charging 20 quid for a Shih Tzu, so I'll charge 18.

Speaker A

It was never that low.

Speaker B

Well, I don't know.

Speaker B

I don't know.

Speaker B

Um.

Speaker B

So one thing you change is your pricing and just do it properly from.

Speaker A

Day one, not comparing yourself to others.

Speaker A

Your business is individual.

Speaker A

And that's what you've just said, like, don't just go off what everyone else is charging.

Speaker A

I know, like, if someone's charging 50 quid for a dog, if you could charge 200, I get like that, would you probably not have anyone turn up?

Speaker A

But don't think, oh, because everyone else is 40 pound for that dog, I better do the same, because you might be offering a completely different service and a better service.

Speaker A

So, yeah, and I think that also touches on understanding the.

Speaker A

The cash flow in the figures, because I was saying to you, like, I remember my mum rang me and this was like, four or five years into dog grooming and I was earning, I'd put my prices where they need to be and I was earning a really good wage and my mom rang to say, oh, you've got to get this Simpson Super Direct dryer.

Speaker A

And, you know, it's like 600 quid, it's a game changer and all this.

Speaker A

And I went, oh, I can't really afford it.

Speaker A

And she's like, how much have you just taken that last week?

Speaker A

And I was like, you know, background and a harvest.

Speaker A

She's like, how can you not afford that?

Speaker A

And I literally kid you not, I didn't know what was coming out my bank account.

Speaker A

I couldn't tell you what profit business was making.

Speaker A

And I think, like, you say you've got to price yourself based on all of that, like, and that's.

Speaker A

A lot of people don't treat the business like a business.

Speaker A

And I didn't.

Speaker A

And I think that's where I made the biggest mistake is it was like, I went to work, did my job, but I didn't really understand the financial side of it to help me make the right decisions on my pricing, on everything else, so.

Speaker B

And you didn't write it down either.

Speaker A

Dub me in.

Speaker A

I feel like this is like a grill, Tegan.

Speaker B

Well, I didn't write it down.

Speaker B

And the.

Speaker B

And the accountant for the Prince's Trust was useless as well, because when I looked, when I looked at Tegan's tax return.

Speaker B

It was wrong.

Speaker B

Uh, so, you know, it always helps to get yourself a good accountant.

Speaker B

But you didn't.

Speaker B

And we're not just saying this, obviously because of Hugh Tegan works for now.

Speaker B

But you didn't have an accountant or anything because even your mom was trying to persuade you to, to come as usually your dogwoman.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

And you were like, no, no, I.

Speaker A

Can do it myself, I think.

Speaker A

Well, firstly it was a record keeping side of stuff.

Speaker A

I had a spreadsheet.

Speaker A

And I'll be completely honest, you know, I tell people all the time, like, keep on top of it.

Speaker A

The more you keep on top of your figures, the less you've got to do you.

Speaker A

Like, I used to leave it months on end and then sit there and have to copy my receipts and copy, you know, my bank account.

Speaker A

And it was really, really timec consuming.

Speaker A

I used to dread doing it.

Speaker A

So I put it off and like, I know there's so many people because I speak to them when they come on board, they're like, it's daunting.

Speaker A

Ringing the counting and no, I'm not doing things right.

Speaker A

And I go, well, neither was I.

Speaker A

So I'll tell you what you do need to do, right, to make sure you're doing it.

Speaker B

And I can attest to that.

Speaker B

It was definitely.

Speaker A

But also, yeah, I, I spoke to like friends and family, not my mom, because she was like your biggest advocate, but like, you know, my ex, part of the time, like friends that will go, do your own tax turn.

Speaker A

It's easy.

Speaker A

And then like, you know, I wasn't doing it right.

Speaker A

And that's what I say to people now is I've been that person that goes, it's easy.

Speaker A

You just do a simplified tax return and put in like your income to it and put in this.

Speaker A

But I know now work of you guys how much goes into it.

Speaker A

And I'd never do my own tax run again.

Speaker B

God wouldn't consider, wouldn't I probably wouldn't advise that either.

Speaker A

No.

Speaker A

And that's what I say to people, like, for the sake of, you know, 30 quid or 30 quid a month, you have that security and it's done properly.

Speaker A

You've got an accountant there to support you and your business, like understand your figures, to help you make decisions, like make sure you head in the right direction.

Speaker A

But I think as well, I found it really daunting the thought like my mom was trying to get me to speak to you and I kept on it off because I was so Scared.

Speaker A

And then like obviously it's fine, people ring up.

Speaker B

And then I got my hands on the paperwork and was like, oh dear.

Speaker A

Yeah, we did do my last, we had to redo tax returns, didn't you?

Speaker B

Yeah, but you know, we'll not, we'll not talk about that.

Speaker B

But so pricing, get your pricing right from the beginning, guys.

Speaker B

Would you give discounts like if some new customers.

Speaker B

Because I know we've discussed this before about discounts and stuff.

Speaker A

I, I wouldn't change the way I did that.

Speaker A

And you know what, I, I built the business pretty quickly to it to like, you know, I had my book, books were like full within a year which is good for you know, some businesses.

Speaker A

And I think the way I advertise and the social media and stuff, I did like that and the discounts I offered so you know, I do like 10 for a first time customer.

Speaker A

Get them in.

Speaker A

You know, they know how you are with the dogs, they like you, they're going to come back.

Speaker A

And I always say to clients on the phone when they're new business owners, the thing that I always say is just get the reviews in and like get them in and if you ask them to give you a review when they're picking up the dog, they're going to forget by the time they've gone home, sorted the kids made the dinner and they're going to forget.

Speaker A

So I used to always just spend like 20 minutes, 15 minutes messaging all the first time customers that have been to say thanks for trusting me with Buddy today.

Speaker A

You know, here's a photo of Buddy in the bath with bubbles on his head looking all cute and would you mind leaving me a review?

Speaker A

And I got like 156 five star reviews within a year and a half and I think that helps because of like then people are searching for you on Facebook and I don't have a website, I didn't have an.

Speaker A

I got a Facebook page and I was fully booked up within a year just off a Facebook page and advertising local groups.

Speaker A

People say it doesn't work and that's how I got all of my clients is it takes time and dedication but you have to keep at the advertising, the social media.

Speaker A

So yeah, that's the stuff I wouldn't change.

Speaker B

But yeah, all the other stuff she had the social media down, the, the reviews down but not necessarily the price of all the outside but not the.

Speaker A

And I think when we speak to people, everybody focus on all the other bits.

Speaker A

And I think the finance side and I'm not just saying this because you're an accountant and this is the pet account podcast.

Speaker A

It's like that's the.

Speaker A

No, but that's a bit where people like, they don't know where to start.

Speaker A

Like people don't, they don't understand tax and numbers and like when I was, I look at me back three, four years ago, the thought of bringing an accountant and getting somebody really corporate on the phone that's going to talk to me in a way I don't get it because like certain people's brains work differently and if a normal accountant just spoke to me in an accountant's language, I'd be like, what the heck?

Speaker A

But like you guys, you talk to people in the way they get it.

Speaker A

You talk our language.

Speaker A

And I think when I instantly then met you and I didn't feel as overwhelmed, but I think that's why for so long is because it is a bit daunting.

Speaker B

Yeah, some, yeah.

Speaker B

I think people perceive accountants like car salesmen that are just going to be really sort of odd and pressure you into signing up and just talk jogging at you for an hour.

Speaker B

Which those of you who have signed up with this would obviously speak to Tegan first off will know that that is definitely not here we are.

Speaker B

So price and get that sorted.

Speaker B

Advertising Use Facebook to your advantage.

Speaker B

If you were to go back to do the dog we were now would you do stuff like Instagram, tick tock and things I know you probably touched.

Speaker A

On TikTok in the end.

Speaker A

Yeah, I did get a tick tock in the end.

Speaker A

I only posted our videos and I got a couple thousand followers but I didn't get clients from was it was Facebook that brought them all in because it was a local group.

Speaker A

So you know, I've got a new spa package you can add on to groom and all this.

Speaker A

And I just kept it that like when I was then fully booked and I didn't really need to advertise, I kept on with the social media, which I know you say is really important.

Speaker A

Where a lot of people make mistakes is they get fully just stop with social media.

Speaker A

Every night I posted photos of every dog that had been in.

Speaker A

I kept on top of stories to help the engagement, like you know, cute dogs in the bath videos of them.

Speaker A

But I did get a lot of clients that followed my TikTok and I think they enjoyed seeing like I'd make a 60 video, a 60 minute, not 60 second video of like showing how I groom the dog from start to finish.

Speaker A

And again I think that just gives them an understanding of what you actually do as a dog groom and how actually is so.

Speaker B

And you had quite a few other dog groomers in your area, didn't you?

Speaker B

Because you looked it up, some of you saying there was quite a few.

Speaker A

That's loads.

Speaker A

Yeah, it was like more and more over the years, just was setting up all around.

Speaker A

What I say to people is like, you know, they're not your competition.

Speaker A

Well, they are, but they're not because there's enough dogs to go around.

Speaker A

And if you just like run your business in the way that you want, just make sure you're offering a brilliant service and there's no reason it won't work out.

Speaker A

Like I hear people say to me all the time, like, I'm a dog walking this area and there's another five, ten dog walkers.

Speaker A

But you know what's lovely is you see them then come together like our people we know in our area.

Speaker A

Like they create this lovely friendship of dog walkers and they all help each other out.

Speaker A

And that's where like collaboration over competition comes into it.

Speaker A

Because you should be helping, helping each other out.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

But something else I would do differently is go on software because we've taught a.

Speaker B

Well, we've taught well.

Speaker B

There's no doing no script or anything.

Speaker A

This is, if you ask me, like, what would I have done differently, knowing what I know now, what I would have done differently is go on software whether I get a book or do it myself.

Speaker A

Because I was a spreadsheet lover and I used to put everything on a spreadsheet, leave it for ages and then fill it in.

Speaker A

But whether you do the spreadsheet regularly, every day or every week, or you leave, leave it for months, it's so time consuming to sit and write something down like you're copying what's in your bank.

Speaker A

Whereas the softwares I see, like what people do on them now, so from experience, they're just so much quicker and easy to use.

Speaker A

And then you can like track your performance and look at how your business is like performing and then so it's like a win, win.

Speaker A

But I'd go on software.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

You know, I'm an advocate, I tell everyone get on software.

Speaker B

Yeah, that is true.

Speaker B

Just.

Speaker B

But not some softwares.

Speaker B

Not some softwares, which, if you follow the podcast, you know which ones I'm talking about.

Speaker B

But that's another rabbit hole.

Speaker B

So price and advertising.

Speaker B

Would you necessarily outsource your advertising if you went back or would you still spend time doing it yourself?

Speaker B

Because that's the thing, like a lot of people juggle a Lot of things when they're starting out and it gets to the point where it like takes over your life.

Speaker B

If you sat there an hour every evening doing social media, doing the spreadsheet, doing, you know.

Speaker B

Yeah, tidying up, all sorts.

Speaker B

It just, it's very time consuming.

Speaker A

It is like you do a lot no matter what level of business you're at.

Speaker A

Like when you're a business owner there's a lot of responsibilities that come with it.

Speaker A

I think for me, the social media and all that, like it was something that I enjoyed doing and that I found pretty easy.

Speaker A

Like whereas the financial side I would outsource the bookkeeping but everyone's gonna be different.

Speaker A

Some people out there wouldn't know where to start with Canva and design and stuff and you know, dog group.

Speaker A

I found it was like what people wanted to see was photos of the dogs being grouped.

Speaker A

They wanted to see that I could do a good quality group.

Speaker A

So I just used to post photos.

Speaker A

The dogs are groomed every day and it was relatively easy so that I think I'd be to manage.

Speaker A

But yeah, it's the other areas I'd add.

Speaker A

Outsource like I'd look at.

Speaker A

I was just working six days a week, sometimes 12 hour days and I should have worked smarter, not harder in the end.

Speaker A

And I could have probably took on an apprentice and employee and then growing the business or them hours I spent in the evening, you know, putting off my spreadsheet and just doing my social media.

Speaker A

I could have had somebody doing like my record keeping for me.

Speaker A

So then it's just not in the back of my thinking, oh my God, I'm leaving it.

Speaker A

It's getting worse.

Speaker A

I'm so far behind.

Speaker A

So yeah, I do think outsourcing is really important.

Speaker A

Outsource what's you know going to be best for you, what you don't like doing the most because if you don't gonna put it off.

Speaker B

I love doing the social media and I was, I was good at the social media but I wasn't very good with the graphic side which is why I got Charlotte on board.

Speaker B

Charlotte Perrett from K N Marketing Support.

Speaker B

Just a little plug there for her because I was useless at like creating still am can't do it for life.

Speaker B

So this is why Tegan did it and obviously now we've, we've got Sean so it does help.

Speaker B

But obviously it is a.

Speaker B

You've got to be mindful of cash flow and I think sometimes getting another pair of eyes looking at your business can help because you have an emotional attachment to certain things and you might be blind to certain things.

Speaker B

Random question.

Speaker B

Did you do any sort of like grooming competitions or did you go to any grooming events?

Speaker B

Did you get involved in any of that stuff?

Speaker A

Nope, nope.

Speaker A

I remember Mum was massively into all of the different seminars and stuff like that.

Speaker A

But no, I didn't, I just, it was just me and my business.

Speaker A

Like I was, you know, I wanted to be.

Speaker A

I didn't go to any of like you know, the showroom type stuff I see as I'm a pet groomer and that's it.

Speaker A

But no, however I know you've got the seminar, the ex though and I think it's a bloody growing idea because the grooming I felt fine with and I was quite comfortable with and anything I didn't know about grooming have my mum to go to like give my qualifications and I felt like I was a good level dog groomer and that's where I was happy being.

Speaker A

You know, I didn't want to go and do age infusion grooming and all that.

Speaker A

I just wasn't interested.

Speaker A

Some people aren't and that's fine but like it's all the other areas like we've mentioned, the pricing and like the, the knowing your numbers and all that that I did struggle with and I think now things are changing like back I haven't had my business what four odd years like like AI that wasn't.

Speaker A

It probably was around four or five years ago but I never heard about it and as well even social media and marketing has changed massively.

Speaker A

Like I feel like realism look now than they were back then.

Speaker A

So yeah, it's all that type of stuff that comes into business that I would, I think having something collectively that people can go to to learn about such an amazing idea because I didn't know where to start at the beginning and I did do things wrong and I think if there's people out there that are new to business or even like a few years in and just feel like they need to refresh their ideas then I think having something like the Expo, which I know you'll probably talk about what it is in a second is really good because I would have literally to go to one.

Speaker B

And to be fair we hear that off everybody.

Speaker B

I think even when I first started the pet Accountant Back in 20.

Speaker A

Everyone.

Speaker B

Was saying like more so maybe the dog groomers were saying that they get so much support with the actual grooming itself but never ever on the business side and I don't think that's ever changed in the four years that we've been doing the Pet Accountant.

Speaker B

I don't think I've had anyone that said, actually, yeah, this city in guilds does this now.

Speaker B

Ipet does this now.

Speaker B

They do touch on it and I, you know, there's people out there, you know Randall, who runs the dog business school, he's got a lot of courses and stuff that, that help people in the boarding, walking and training world.

Speaker B

But there's still, when it comes to like the qualifications and owning a business and starting a business from scratch, when you don't have that business background, it is bloody difficult and no one teaches you how to do it and there's so many pitfalls and I think that's where the Expo was born was because it just hasn't changed in four years at all.

Speaker B

And anyone helping anyone with the, the business side and like the proper business stuff and going, getting into the nitty gritty details.

Speaker B

So if you haven't grabbed your ticket yet for the Expo and you want to know more details, there is a Facebook page called Petro Expo 2025, funnily enough, and you can get the details on our Facebook page and the group as well, or just drop an email if you do want to grab a ticket because there's not many left.

Speaker B

And it will be a good, good session and it's going to cover all sorts from price and marketing, AI burnout, goal setting, work, life balance, mindset, the lot.

Speaker B

So if you are struggling with any of those areas, then definitely, definitely come if you can't make Birmingham, because I know it's a bit of a track, there will be online tickets going sale probably around about August, September time.

Speaker B

And so just keep your eyes peeled for that.

Speaker B

What were you going to say?

Speaker A

I was going to say work, life balance again, like you didn't have literally, I think, yeah, threw myself into the business.

Speaker A

It becomes your baby, like it does, isn't it?

Speaker A

And like you doing well, I succeed and I think sometimes and like you said, you struggle to let go of stuff and I think that's a big thing that people struggle with as well and I trust and so on.

Speaker A

I've literally had three calls this morning with people inquiring about joining the Pet Accountant and two of them have had hands, one hasn't.

Speaker A

And all of them were just saying, like, I don't know if I'm doing things right.

Speaker A

It's quite daunting ringing up and I've been putting it off and somebody else was like, it's just scary passing it Over.

Speaker A

It's like, because she was using QuickBooks and she actually got a new software and that's something.

Speaker A

I get that.

Speaker A

But the end of the day, you've just got to go with, you know, someone that you've got feels right with and that you trust.

Speaker B

That's what you've got to do.

Speaker B

You checks.

Speaker B

I always say that to people.

Speaker B

Sometimes we're not a good fit for people and we part ways and that's just the way it is.

Speaker B

And sometimes our personalities clash.

Speaker B

And the thing is, your trust in us was such an important part of your business that you've got to have that trust between you and your accountant or your bookkeeper.

Speaker B

And that communication line has got to be open, otherwise it just doesn't work.

Speaker B

So pick your accountant carefully, make sure you get on with them, make sure that they are the right fit for you and vice versa.

Speaker B

We aren't the sort of accountant that takes on anybody willy nilly.

Speaker B

You know, Tegan will say, you know, I had a call with so and so I'm just not sure because of X, Y and Z.

Speaker B

And that's absolutely fine on both, on both sides.

Speaker B

You know, I had a lady that sent me a very stern email a few years ago, or was it a dm?

Speaker B

It was something.

Speaker B

It was either an email or a Facebook message basically saying she didn't appreciate me saying in a podcast, just say it, which I've just said it, but.

Speaker B

And I thought, well, you know, then clearly I'm not the person for you because occasionally I do drop a little swear word every now and again, but I think I have got better.

Speaker B

It's just one of those, like, we're not clearly not going to be the right accountant for you.

Speaker B

So then that's absolutely fine on both sides.

Speaker A

The lady, one of the ladies this morning was literally the same answer.

Speaker A

My voice, I say my inner Marsh Simpson comes out, but it happens all the time.

Speaker A

The lady this morning was saying, like, obviously it is daunting and all this.

Speaker A

And she was saying like, she is with an accountant and they shouldn't really get what they're saying.

Speaker A

She sometimes feels quite stupid talking to them.

Speaker A

And we hear that quite a lot.

Speaker A

And I'm like, well, you got me on the phone.

Speaker A

You know, it's fine.

Speaker B

I feel quite stupid sometimes.

Speaker B

I'm talking to Lee, but everyone feels stupid when they're talking to Lee.

Speaker B

But yeah, he is an oddball.

Speaker A

But I just said to her, like, they're very corporate.

Speaker A

And I said, say, like, you know, we're not like, we Take the dogs to work.

Speaker A

Lee, don't listen, but the dash hands sleep on my desk on the bed to the left, not anywhere near the it.

Speaker A

We have a Crocs, like, we all have a laugh.

Speaker A

You've got a bit of a mouth when you want like.

Speaker A

And you know, I say like, if you want that corporate vibe, it's probably not going to be us.

Speaker A

But I say like, we are thorough compared to a lot of accountants we provide in service.

Speaker B

The team do a lot more and.

Speaker A

We do a lot more in support, like the support and guidance and all of that.

Speaker A

And I'll talk through like what we offer with the bookkeeping service compared to what she's getting and she's like, bloody like, it is brilliant.

Speaker A

So yeah, but I was just gonna mention about like the like work life balance, a lot of it interlinks.

Speaker A

Because I didn't have that work life balance.

Speaker A

And what ended up happening and why I ended up wanting to leave dog grooming is I was completely burnt out, which is a shame because I had a brilliant business and I built it because I ended up priced myself right after, you know, getting where I need to be and doing everything properly and started treating like a business and then a lot of money.

Speaker A

And I am amazing clients, but got to the point where I didn't want to go to work anymore because I was completely out.

Speaker A

And like, that's where outsourcing comes into it and all the other little bits.

Speaker A

But I think that's why the expo is so amazing because you're going to have so many different experts talking about all the different aspects and they all interlink.

Speaker A

You've got like, you know, the woman doing social media marketing, you guys knowing your numbers, all that stuff you could outsource to.

Speaker A

And then you've got experts talking about work life balance, burnout, which are really important topics that people forget about because without you there's no business and you've got to look after yourself.

Speaker A

So.

Speaker B

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker B

Yourself, number one.

Speaker B

I just thought I put this.

Speaker B

Helen said definitely not support for bunny boarding and grooming.

Speaker B

And again, you know, it's, it's true though.

Speaker B

It doesn't matter if you're grooming rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, dogs.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

You know, whether you're a dog trainer, dog walker, dog border.

Speaker B

You know, I started the pet accountant without any real business background and it is tough.

Speaker B

And you know, I did a lot of training and went to various seminars and things like that to get extra info and that support.

Speaker B

And I think it's a room full of like minded People who want the same thing.

Speaker B

It's going to be a giggle, it's not going to be death by PowerPoint.

Speaker B

We've got a few quirky things happening during the day.

Speaker B

You're going to be fed and then we're going to have drinks afterwards.

Speaker B

So it is going to be a good laugh.

Speaker B

You're going to learn a lot and then hopefully we can do it again next year and keep it going and, and make it bigger and better.

Speaker B

But yeah, just let us know if you want to take it.

Speaker B

Grab one from the Facebook page or our.

Speaker B

Our Facebook group etc, or drop us an email and we can get your ticket sorted.

Speaker B

We've got people coming from all over, which is good.

Speaker B

From Ireland.

Speaker B

I had a lady from Ireland say, please do one in Ireland because we don't have anything like it.

Speaker B

Yeah, they're all from Scotland, so, you know, we might do one in Ireland next year.

Speaker B

We might do one closer to Scotland, maybe on a smaller scale, who knows?

Speaker B

But it's had a very good reception so far and a lot of support from our sponsors as well.

Speaker B

So make sure you check them out.

Speaker B

Tugging off Low Pay, Animal Focus alliance and Paw Palap as well.

Speaker B

So thank you to those guys.

Speaker B

But yes, I think that comes to a natural end.

Speaker A

Videos, aren't we.

Speaker A

So we're going to be releasing a lot more content.

Speaker B

Yes.

Speaker B

So you'll.

Speaker B

You'll notice every week that each of the speakers have done a little video to let you know what they're going to be talking about and introducing themselves if you don't know who they are.

Speaker B

Although I'm pretty sure a lot of you will know who most of them are.

Speaker B

But they'll be doing a little video, introducing themselves and letting you guys know what they're going to be talking about.

Speaker B

And then I will be releasing the online speakers very soon as well.

Speaker B

We've got a good lineup there, so.

Speaker B

Full of good stuff, useful stuff.

Speaker B

You'll get a CPD certificate at the end, a natural physical certificate to take home, put in a frame.

Speaker B

Let's say that you've.

Speaker B

We do love a certificate.

Speaker A

One in the kitchen.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

And a goodie bag.

Speaker B

So you'll have that certificate to say that you've been.

Speaker B

And like I say, it's the first of the.

Speaker B

Of ever a business conference purely for pet businesses.

Speaker B

So.

Speaker B

So it's going to be good.

Speaker B

So hopefully we'll see you all there.

Speaker B

Thank you very much for listening and we should be back next week.

Speaker B

Hopefully myself and Lee will be back because I feel like me and Lee haven't done one for ages because he's been not under himself.

Speaker B

No, Tegan's off for about a year, so she's good till 2026.

Speaker B

But Lee is back now from his Holly Bob's so I will force him to do one.

Speaker B

Next Wednesday we'll be back and if you guys need anything, as always, use the group.

Speaker B

Drop us an email or give Tegan a call if you fancy having a chat about joining us.

Speaker B

And we will keep you posted for anything that comes up that you guys need to know, as always.

Speaker B

And listen to the podcast which is released every Monday.

Speaker B

And make sure you drop it a follow so you don't miss anything.

Speaker A

If you like listening to it.

Speaker B

Yes, leave us a little cheeky review if you like the podcast.

Speaker B

I feel like it has gone from a very serious podcast to just having a giggle most of the time.

Speaker B

But we do get a lot of positive feedback about the podcast and only one person complained about me swearing.

Speaker A

Yeah, I didn't realize that on Spotify I can because I listen to quite a lot of podcasts and I didn't realize you can just put like five stars in it.

Speaker A

So then I've started going through the ones and I think like, so if anyone so many people across go like, I'm not a client but I love your podcast and helps.

Speaker A

So I'm going to start saying next year.

Speaker A

Well, while you're here, just give us five stars.

Speaker B

Yeah, give us five stars people.

Speaker B

Let's get the podcast up there alongside all the greats.

Speaker B

That would be funny, wouldn't it?

Speaker B

Like Stephen Bartlett Blow up the Pet Accountant.

Speaker B

Could you imagine?

Speaker B

I think we should do that for a laugh, just to see what happens.

Speaker B

See if I can get myself on ITV News, get Vicky famous, see what happens.

Speaker B

It'd be funny, but there we go.

Speaker B

Have a good week everyone.

Speaker B

Thanks for listening and we will catch up with everyone next week.

Speaker B

Bye bye.

Speaker B

Thanks for listening.
