Ep16: Six Common Reasons Why You Want To Write A Book
[00:00:00] There are two purposes of why we want to write a book. We want to write a book to benefit ourselves, and we want to write a book to benefit others. Now through this purpose, there are internal and external rewards. For me personally, the internal rewards with my book, published impacts come through, wanting to help people write and publish their non-fiction book.
[00:00:19] That to me is really important of letting people know. That there is a way to write and publish a book. So internally for me, that's awesome. The external rewards comes from business growth, lead generation and all those other things that help enhance my book, coaching business as well as giving me more credibility and authority in my field. Now in this episode, I'm going to go over the six, most common reasons why people want to write a book, because if you haven't really sat down and thought about whether your book will be written or not, I want you to listen to this episode and listen to these reasons so you can connect and align your thoughts with those reasons. So I really hope this episode helps you take action to write your book as I do with every other single episode.
[00:01:00] So as I talk about these six reasons, I want you to really, really consider where you fit in, what lights you up and the line, why you want to write your book so you can make it happen. Now the first reason why people want to write a book is because it's a passion of theirs. You've heard about people who want to write a book because it's on their bucket list, but really underneath all that is they have a passion to transform lives and to make a difference now, for someone who wants to write a book because of. Because it's their passion.
[00:01:28] It means they haven't stopped thinking about it. They love to read. They'd love to pick up a book and think, oh, I'd love to become an author because when passion and book writing collides, you naturally pour everything you have into writing your book and getting it published.
[00:01:42] And that's something that impacts another person's life, as well as yours. And what really stops people from acting upon this reason is not knowing how to write or how to publish a book. So if it's always been a passion for you to write a book, don't give up and take action today. The second common reason why people want to write a book is to leave a legacy. Now you may have worked in an industry for decades or quite a while, and
[00:02:07] you've worked your way up from the bottom to the top, and you've got all this knowledge waiting to be delivered. You might have delivered this knowledge previously in speaking engagements, conferences or keynotes. Or at some point throughout your career? But the last thing for you to do and put a meaningful stamp on your career is to write a book. So when you leave a legacy. Your book is intended to be passed down to the next generation.
[00:02:30] So putting all your knowledge that you've learned over the decades and passing your book down inside your industry, you really making an impact on others and where they're at in their career and industry as well. Now number three. People want to write a book to increase leads and sales writing, and publishing a book is one of the most powerful, powerful avenues to generate leads and to generate sales inside your business and inside your industry. Because what happens when you put a physical and even a digital asset into the world, your book captures the attention of people who haven't heard of you yet. And one of the most powerful ways you can use your book is to include resources inside or use your entire book as a lead magnet. Because not only does it build trust, but it establishes further credibility inside your industry because you're giving away something of value while solving their problem.
[00:03:19] And you're doing it in a powerful way because you're giving it away for free. So while everybody else is giving away checklists, or PDFs, You've done the work to write and publish a book, and you can give that book away to generate leads inside your business and really build meaningful connections. Because what's going to be inside your book, our stories, your expertise, and really relatable content that captures the hearts and mind of the people.
[00:03:44] Who've read your book. The fourth common reason of why people want to write a book similar to how your book can impact your community. Your network improves as you connect with other business owners. So your network rapidly expands because you've been known as one of the experts in your field. And there's many things that you can do to network with your book. If you go to networking events, you can bring your book along and use it as your business card effectively.
[00:04:11] So if people have problems that they need solving, you can introduce herself and say, I'd love to give you a copy of my book. That's automatically going to create a connection with a new person. So what's going to happen is that person is then going to go back home. They're going to hold onto your book and that book's going to either go in their office and whether they rate a month, it's inside their house, they're going to have your book.
[00:04:31] And that's a real powerful way. For somebody to remind them of you.
[00:04:36] And your book also expands your network through word of mouth, because if they do decide to read it, the person you gave your book to. We'll let other people know about your book and then it will have a snowball effect. For one people wanting to buy your book to people, wanting to work with you and three people wanting to create more connection with you. And it's a really powerful tool to network.
[00:04:57] The fifth reason why people want to write a book is to build their personal brand. When you establish yourself as an author in your industry, you're naturally building on who you are and what you do. Your book is really that opportunity to tell readers more about you, more about what you stand for while you're solving their problems and guiding them through a transformative experience, because that's where the impact is made. Your book should really be a wrapped up tool of your brand. And it really allows you to showcase your expertise with personality and establish yourself as a thought leader in what you practice. So using your book as a way to say this is who I am is a really powerful way to make a difference.
[00:05:35] And again, to connect with others. And finally the sixth reason why people want to write a book is because it's a personal development process. Writing a book is a really transformative experience, both for you and for the people who are going to read your book. Now, as you work through the book writing process, and you really start to reflect on your own knowledge, you get to gain clarity in your thoughts. And this really builds resilience in your writing, and it helps you overcome the self doubt, knowing that your book isn't too far away from being realized. So writing a book is more than making impact on others because it's a real journey of discovery and growth, and you're challenged to navigate the ups and downs of the process and really confront your thoughts and beliefs head on while expanding your knowledge and skills in the ways you'd least expect it. So why now though, why write your book now? Well, the fact that you're coming towards the end of this podcast episode, it means you have ambition and a high level of interest in becoming an author while generally impacting the people you serve. [00:06:43] I hope this podcast does give you the tools to build that confidence and to practice the book writing process.
