I think for me as men, I can't tell a man how to live their life.

But I just think it's a calling on our lives to reach out in the community and remind each other of where we supposed to be when it comes to God.

But now I'm a dad, it's like certain paths that I took, you know, they want good paths on certain things.

It could have been in school, like studying, you know, something simple.

But I am trying to raise them to be men, because you're not gonna be a boy forever.

So in my past, I'm trying to make sure.

For my kid, my boys, I'm definitely trying to make sure they being raised as men.

You know, they do have some account my qualities, but because they around me, but.

But in the short stance, I'm just trying to make sure I'm guiding them in the right direction.

Not even close to what I was doing.

Because, like, for us, like, my boys and skills training, like, I didn't do skills like that, bro.

I don't know if I told you or not, but me, Me and my girl was talking to Casey, my oldest, and we were talking about skipping school.

She goes to the same high school I went to.

Well, when I went to the high school, all the buildings weren't connected.

And so when we skipped you, you didn't have to run.

You just go between the buildings.

Nobody knows.

But I was talking to her and you know, when you know your child, you know your child and she was being very genuine when she was like, I don't know how to skip.

See, that's what I want for all.

I don't want you doing any of the bad things I did because all the bad things attracted me.

But as a parent, the last thing you want to do is watch your child fall.

And that'd be for me, like, now, even my boys right now in school, like, don't mean, like, I didn't really have a problem with school, you know, School.

For me, I looked at school kind of being easy, but I was like, a days ago.

Man, you don't say that again.

So me being in school, school was easy, but I know for a fact I was lackadaisical.

So I can see that in my boys.

So for them, it's more like I.

Well, I did it.

I passed it.

But at the same time, sure, I got a great.

Shoot, I passed.

I ain't tripping.

It's just not putting the extra effort, you know, into certain things.

And I see that right now, my boy.

So I'm trying to crack down on them with that.

And that's just part of me, because I know, like, like you said earlier, like, you got some DNA.

You got my DNA in you.

So wherever you go, I'm with you.

So at the same time, I'm trying to go ahead and kill it, you know, for sure.

You know, become a habit and a problem later on down the line.

And so for me, if you put my family in the book, I'm not saying my daddy didn't do what he was supposed to do.

I'm not saying I'm not doing what I'm supposed to do.

It's just because I'm in daddy mode.

The only thing on my mind is, is, Quincy, I don't want you to do what you're supposed to do.

I want you to do better.

But it take baby steps to.

To move forward, because certain things my kids don't even know.

They assume they know because I get on my oldest all the time.

And matter of fact, we was doing a.

A play on the board yesterday for practice, and I was like, look, this is the play.

I drew it up for him.

And when I drew it up for him, I said, tell me.

I said, go ahead and describe it to me because you got to teach it in practice.

And he drew it up, and he paused, and he kept fumbling.

And I was like, you want me do it again?

You know what I'm saying?

Because it's cool if you don't know, because I don't want you guessing.

I don't want you think you know.

And I want you to actually know for a fact that you actually know.

And you confident in what you know.

And he was like, yeah, do it again for him.

All right, cool.

That part I don't have a problem with.

The problem I have is when you go out there and you do something and you pretend like you don't know and you really don't know know.

You pretend like you do know, but you don't.

But you don't.

So, yeah, I'm gonna hold your hand at first, because, shoot, my dad had my hand on the free thing.

But it's a lot of things that I went out there and did.

I was just about to say, so as a daddy, why is it that we result?

And I think it's every generation.

But why is it, as a daddy, I come hold your hand more?

Now, when we grew up in a time where you talking about swimming, you know how I learned how to swim?

So you get thrown water, you jump.

So you jump, and it's either you.

Find out how deep it is, either.

You gonna sink or swim one or two.

And for me, like, I remember literally learning how to swim.

I went.

We had a family friend that was a lifeguard, and he told me, you push off the wall and you practice on your stuff, swimming back to the wall.

And you keep doing it.

Keep doing it.

And once you got it, now you try to swim across instead of just pushing off the wall.

And, bruh, I. I was the child that listened for that long, so I didn't get it.

I just jumped.

I pushed the wall twice, but he said, keep practicing it until you got it right.

But I'm just gonna jump.

I did it twice.

That was good enough for me.

I'm gonna just jump and learn.

And over the course of time, I did learn, but it was plenty of times while I was swimming in that pool.

I'm pretty sure my daddy, my mama, or anybody around, like, he don't know what he doing.

But I kept going right and learning.

But I'm seeing.

And I'm not talking down on you at all.

I'm seeing with my son, it's like I'm quick to hold my hand up.

But we grew up where the parents were a little bit harder.

So we got to bump our heads a couple of times to learn.

But I just don't.

I don't see why it comes natural for us to be this way.

When we weren't raised like that at all.

Because I think for us, we was out there just blinded, bro.

Who weren't raised like us, who did have their dad that held their hand, and they don't ask anybody.

They just trying to see where it is.

For me, it's a damn if you do, damn if you don't.

And so there's traits that we have in us because that's how we were raised.

I had to go do it where now my kids don't have.

My son don't have that thought process.

They used to just tell us to go outside.

They didn't tell us about them cars that's gonna be coming in the street.

We had to find this out ourselves.

And then they didn't tell us about the pedophile.

So we, like, now I'm aware of that.

So it's like, I'm aware of that.

So now I got to put my kids on game.

Like, look, you know, this is what's going on here then, too.

I got this saying in my house.

I was like, look, man, the house is your, like, your training ground before you go out these doors.

Cuz when you go out these doors, you dealing with the real world.

You're dealing with everything else that come with it out there.

So if you don't have your head on and your head on straight to the point where you can speak up for yourself and ask questions.

If you don't know, don't assume something like be able just to be, you know, confident in yourself.

But a lot of people don't.

I can't say a lot of people.

But when we grew up, it was more like, hey, look, I'll be back in an hour.

Y' all stay up in here.

Bro, we not gonna stay right up in here.

Nah, we finna go over there.

We're going to go knock on eight doors.

But it's just.

But for us, we didn't know.

As a parent now, Dominique, now, you know, you aware of what's really going on.

So when you talking to your kids or you just still telling them, hey, look, y' all going outside and play.

Because I'm telling them, hey, look, y' all go outside and play, hey, look, don't be in that Attica.

You know, them calls.

Don't be.

I just want you to make sure you looking.

Because if you're not, bro, you can get hit.

You're not paying attention.

And it's.

For me, it's a.

A thing where.

It's a thing where it's like, It's.

It's not a parenting book, and we don't see it this plenty of time.

There's not a parenting book.

It's not.

But for me, I remember, and we speak about it all the time.

I was raised in a household where I was fearful of my dad.

And as much as I have the same authority, when I come through the front door, my keys know the line they can't cross.

But the line they can't cross is a lot more lenient than my line.

I couldn't play with my daddy past a certain line.

If you call me Big Head one time, don't say it again.

Yeah, but me and my kids joke around all day long.

You know what I'm Saying so we can go back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.

And I.

It's just a thought process of am I making you better by being the over the top daddy?

Because if you honest with yourself, if I'm doing more than what my dad did, and I feel like my daddy showed up for me.

Then I'm being over the top.

I still see the error of some of your ways.

So grandpa could drive, and my grandpa drove so my dad could fly.

And I think that's literally how God has it set up.

Because it's only a certain level you can get to.
