Hello everyone, everywhere.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauPastor Bob Thibodeau here.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauWelcome to Freedom through.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI'm sorry, getting ahead of myself there.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThat's our Sunday broadcast.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauWelcome to the Faith Based Business podcast.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauGlory to God.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHallelujah.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAh, we've been having a great time this week, haven't we?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd last time we left off with using comedy in your storytelling.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI promise that we're going to get into that today.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauSo that's exactly what we're going to do.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauLet's go ahead, share the screen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauScreen here and we will get started.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauGlory to God.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou know, the importance of this is because laughter is a universal language that just builds connections and eases tension.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt just makes your storytelling more engaging and memorable.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauWhen used effectively, humor folks can highlight key points, disarm skepticism.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt can create authentic bonds with your audience.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd by adding just the right touch of comedy, your stories become relatable, more enjoyable, more impactful and leaving a lasting impression on your listeners.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThat's what we're going to be discussing today.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow, humor will break down the walls of resistance and it'll capture attention and, and it makes your message more memorable.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThey're going to remember it long after you've finished and gone home.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd they'll go home and they'll tell their friends about this guy that gave such a great presentation.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHey, he's funny, but the points he was making was awesome.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd that's the type of thing you should be going for.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBecause it just lightens the heavy topics and it creates a sense of connection with your audience.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd by understanding its impact and strategically used comedy will enhance your storytelling and make your faith driven message just resonate more deeply.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow you have situational humor.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd that's, that's always, that's, to me, that's the best one.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBecause situ situational humor draws from everyday life.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThink of Jerry Seinfeld, right?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd they could take the funniest thing, some somebody that you know, a restaurant that sells soup, and they turn it into a situational comedy.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd that's what I'm saying.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt draws from everyday life.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt just makes your stories relatable, engaging.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd by sharing light hearted moments that stem from real experiences, experiences that your audience are used to, you can connect with your audience on a personal level and that just fosters that trust and it leaves them with that positive impression from your message.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBut effective humor relies on perfect timing.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauA well timed joke, or especially an antidote that just adds impact without feeling forced, knowing when and how to Inject humor into your story just keeps your audience engaged, and it ensures your point is clear, well received, and leaving that lasting impression.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBut you have to balance.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt just can't come out.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIf you're teaching a serious subject on payroll or something like that, you don't want to go in there and just have a 45 minute comedy fest, okay?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou got to get the points across.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThey know that they have to take this serious, but by injecting a little bit of humor in it.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou know, I remember in the military, the IG inspection.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow my military people, you know exactly what I'm talking about is called the inspector General.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt's an annual inspection.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauEvery single unit, back then, anyway, in the, in the army, every unit went through every single unit every year.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThat annual IG inspection could mean the.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauMeaning the difference between being promoted for your company commander, troop commander, or not.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt's taken very seriously.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThey go everything from records to, you know, presentations to evaluating, you know, your mission and doing an inventory down to your screwdrivers and stuff like that.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI mean, they, they look at everything.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt's a big deal.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauA unit will sometimes prepare a month just for this one or two day inspection.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd they would come in and briefly, usually the leadership, the officers and the senior NCOs, and they would come in and the.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauUsually it's a major or sometimes lieutenant colonel.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauUsually a major will be coming in with the team.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHe'd get up and he'd say, you know, we're so happy to be here.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd you know, we're here to help.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauRight?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd that was the running joke.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThey're here to help.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd I remember one time in this presentation, the morning of the presentation, the guy came up and said, you know, let me get this out of the way right away, is one of the two lies that you'll always hear.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauFirst, the checks in the mail.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd two, we're here to help.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauEverybody got a chuckle out because that's what everybody says, we're here to help.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNo, they're not.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThey're there to inspect and make sure you're doing it the way you're supposed to.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt just got a good laugh.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBut see, he took that serious situation and injected a little bit of commie in it.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd here it is 40 years later.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI can still picture myself sitting there.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauWe're in the mess hall.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauWhen he said that, that's what I'm talking about.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauJust that little subtle humor can make your presentation more memorable.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHumor should not enhance or overshadow your message in any way.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauJust strike the right balance and use comedy to support your key points without diminishing the seriousness of the mission, the faith driven mission.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou know, that presentation I just told you about 40 some years ago, he wanted to emphasize the seriousness.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauEverybody knew the seriousness of this IG inspection, but he wanted to offset a little bit with just a little bit of humor and just break the tension.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd that's what I'm talking about.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThat thoughtful blend of humor and depth ensures your audience will remain engaged and inspired.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd final note, we excel like 92% or something like that on the IG inspection.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauWe did a great job.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay, but tailor your humor to fit your audience's values, the culture, the context that Major did.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHe knew how serious everyone was.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd here we go.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauDay one of the IG inspection, and he just wanted to make them laugh for a minute and then go ahead into this is how we're going to be doing the inspection and all that.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd that keeps your message relatable and respectful at the same time.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAdapted humor builds that trust and it ensures that your stories connect authentically, all while staying true to your mission.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow, puns are a great way to insert some humor.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou know, I.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI've been known since I was in high school about some of my puns.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou can turn it something somebody will say and you turn it into a separate meaning just by repeating what they said with maybe the emphas on a different word.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauRight?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauPuns add that layer of cleverness and playfulness to storytelling and again, it makes the message more relatable, more memorable.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow, when used sparingly and thoughtfully, they can actually highlight key points and bring out light heartedness to your narrative.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauEnsure that your pun aligns with the message, though, and that the audience keeps the humor effective and engaging along the way.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow, I said I love using puns.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThe best puns are those unplanned puns where someone will say something and you'll turn around and ask the question saying the same thing I said with that emphasis on a different word.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd everybody gets it and they all laugh, right?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauLord.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd now I can't think of a good one.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou know, we're talking about puns here.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauFaith filled puns.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay, there you go.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauFaith filled puns.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOh, how about there you go right here?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauFaith filled puns.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow that's a revelation.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI hope you got it.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay, I know, I know, I know.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI'm pulling this out of my hair here.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd you know, only those on video get that.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI don't have very much hair here.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauPraise God.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI'm about ball.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOh, I know, I know.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay, I could keep going.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI won't.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauGlory to God.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI will.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI'll stop right there.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauGlory to God.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou see what I mean?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou see?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnyway, we're talking about using humor in your presentation.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBut in order for you to truly understand that, I want to show you a graphic that explains how basically, the evolution of humor.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow, as you view this picture and think about it, you'll get it.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauFor those listening to audio only, I'll use this as the COVID image.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOr I'll try anyway for this episode.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIf not, you'll just have to click the link in the audio file and look at this video.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHave you got it yet?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHuh?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay, let me go on.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauPraise God.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHere's another one for you.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd again, you'll miss this on the audio.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou'll have to click the link in the video.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay, go watch this video.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBut don't be like this when you're trying to tell a story.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI'm just going to read it for you.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauFor those on audio, it's.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI can't remember the name of the guy.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt's Hobbs.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd I can't remember the other guy, but he's got his little pet tiger there.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauHe says, so anyway, there's this dog, and he says something odd.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI don't remember it, but.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBut this other guy, he says, well, I forget that, too, but it was funny.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd then the stuffed animal says, I'll try to imagine it.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd then Hobbs says, yeah, and you'll really laugh when you do.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauRight?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauSo the cartoon makes more sense.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBut that's what I'm talking about.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauDon't be like this when you're trying to tell your story.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauRehearse.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauRehearse more than once.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauRehearse.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou should be able to recite your entire presentation with the talking points, the main talking points, just off the top of your head.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt may never sound exactly the same on any two presentations, but the talking points will always be the same.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou will always get your talking points in.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt's your talking points that really matter.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI teach this in my interview training course.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou can find that@faithcasteracademy.com but, you know, I.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI recommend that you should have three, no more than four main talking points and the ability to dive a little bit deeper on each one of those talking points, depending on how long you have for your presentation, because you need to get all of your talking points in the three main talking points, folks.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIf I said, depending on how long you have, let's say you have a 45 minute platform, you're on the stage, you're in your presentation, and you have 45 minutes.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauYou need to get all three of your main talking points in and the ability to dive deeper on each talking point.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd, and by doing that, you can have your three main talking points and three sub talking points on each point.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauNow, how does all this tie together?
Pastor Bob ThibodeauWell, back in 2023, just a couple years ago, I was interviewed on a New York City radio program about what I do.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd all of this, all of this is in the interview training program again over@faithcasteracademy.com if you want to get it.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd this particular thing I'm talking about, this interview is an example of how to get your talking points in even when you only have a few minutes.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd it's on video number eight.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauBut I knew going in, this is radio, it's a radio program.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI'm only going to have about four minutes.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI think they gave me four and a half.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauSo in that four and a half minutes, not only did I get my three main talking points in, I was able to get in two additional sub talking points as well.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThe point I'm trying to make is get your talking points in, period.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay, now let's get back.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauCircle this back to our main topic today, which is storytelling, using comedy in your storytelling.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauRight.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAnd I'll put the link to the radio station interview in the show notes for you so you can listen to it.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay, now heads up.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThe link is to a video.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauIt's a YouTube video.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauOkay.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauSo I, I explained going in exactly what's taking place with this radio station.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauThat'd probably be easier.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauI'll just put the link to the YouTube video down in the show notes below.
Pastor Bob ThibodeauAmen.
