Ah, we've been having a great time this week, haven't we?

And last time we left off with using comedy in your storytelling.

I promise that we're going to get into that today.

So that's exactly what we're going to do.

Let's go ahead, share the screen.

You know, the importance of this is because laughter is a universal language that just builds connections and eases tension.

It just makes your storytelling more engaging and memorable.

Amen.

When used effectively, humor folks can highlight key points, disarm skepticism.

It can create authentic bonds with your audience.

And by adding just the right touch of comedy, your stories become relatable, more enjoyable, more impactful and leaving a lasting impression on your listeners.

That's what we're going to be discussing today.

Amen.

Now, humor will break down the walls of resistance and it'll capture attention and, and it makes your message more memorable.

They're going to remember it long after you've finished and gone home.

And they'll go home and they'll tell their friends about this guy that gave such a great presentation.

Hey, he's funny, but the points he was making was awesome.

And that's the type of thing you should be going for.

Amen.

Because it just lightens the heavy topics and it creates a sense of connection with your audience.

And by understanding its impact and strategically used comedy will enhance your storytelling and make your faith driven message just resonate more deeply.

Now you have situational humor.

And that's, that's always, that's, to me, that's the best one.

Okay.

Because situ situational humor draws from everyday life.

Think of Jerry Seinfeld, right?

And they could take the funniest thing, some somebody that you know, a restaurant that sells soup, and they turn it into a situational comedy.

And that's what I'm saying.

It draws from everyday life.

It just makes your stories relatable, engaging.

And by sharing light hearted moments that stem from real experiences, experiences that your audience are used to, you can connect with your audience on a personal level and that just fosters that trust and it leaves them with that positive impression from your message.

But effective humor relies on perfect timing.

Amen.

A well timed joke, or especially an antidote that just adds impact without feeling forced, knowing when and how to Inject humor into your story just keeps your audience engaged, and it ensures your point is clear, well received, and leaving that lasting impression.

But you have to balance.

It just can't come out.

If you're teaching a serious subject on payroll or something like that, you don't want to go in there and just have a 45 minute comedy fest, okay?

You got to get the points across.

They know that they have to take this serious, but by injecting a little bit of humor in it.

You know, I remember in the military, the IG inspection.

Now my military people, you know exactly what I'm talking about is called the inspector General.

It's an annual inspection.

Every single unit, back then, anyway, in the, in the army, every unit went through every single unit every year.

That annual IG inspection could mean the.

Meaning the difference between being promoted for your company commander, troop commander, or not.

Okay?

It's taken very seriously.

They go everything from records to, you know, presentations to evaluating, you know, your mission and doing an inventory down to your screwdrivers and stuff like that.

I mean, they, they look at everything.

It's a big deal.

A unit will sometimes prepare a month just for this one or two day inspection.

And they would come in and briefly, usually the leadership, the officers and the senior NCOs, and they would come in and the.

Usually it's a major or sometimes lieutenant colonel.

Usually a major will be coming in with the team.

He'd get up and he'd say, you know, we're so happy to be here.

And you know, we're here to help.

Right?

And that was the running joke.

They're here to help.

And I remember one time in this presentation, the morning of the presentation, the guy came up and said, you know, let me get this out of the way right away, is one of the two lies that you'll always hear.

First, the checks in the mail.

And two, we're here to help.

Everybody got a chuckle out because that's what everybody says, we're here to help.

No, they're not.

They're there to inspect and make sure you're doing it the way you're supposed to.

It just got a good laugh.

But see, he took that serious situation and injected a little bit of commie in it.

And here it is 40 years later.

I can still picture myself sitting there.

We're in the mess hall.

When he said that, that's what I'm talking about.

Just that little subtle humor can make your presentation more memorable.

Okay?

Humor should not enhance or overshadow your message in any way.

Just strike the right balance and use comedy to support your key points without diminishing the seriousness of the mission, the faith driven mission.

You know, that presentation I just told you about 40 some years ago, he wanted to emphasize the seriousness.

Everybody knew the seriousness of this IG inspection, but he wanted to offset a little bit with just a little bit of humor and just break the tension.

And that's what I'm talking about.

That thoughtful blend of humor and depth ensures your audience will remain engaged and inspired.

And final note, we excel like 92% or something like that on the IG inspection.

We did a great job.

Okay, but tailor your humor to fit your audience's values, the culture, the context that Major did.

He knew how serious everyone was.

And here we go.

Day one of the IG inspection, and he just wanted to make them laugh for a minute and then go ahead into this is how we're going to be doing the inspection and all that.

And that keeps your message relatable and respectful at the same time.

Adapted humor builds that trust and it ensures that your stories connect authentically, all while staying true to your mission.

Amen.

Now, puns are a great way to insert some humor.

You know, I.

I've been known since I was in high school about some of my puns.

You can turn it something somebody will say and you turn it into a separate meaning just by repeating what they said with maybe the emphas on a different word.

Right?

Puns add that layer of cleverness and playfulness to storytelling and again, it makes the message more relatable, more memorable.

Now, when used sparingly and thoughtfully, they can actually highlight key points and bring out light heartedness to your narrative.

Ensure that your pun aligns with the message, though, and that the audience keeps the humor effective and engaging along the way.

Now, I said I love using puns.

The best puns are those unplanned puns where someone will say something and you'll turn around and ask the question saying the same thing I said with that emphasis on a different word.

And everybody gets it and they all laugh, right?

Lord.

And now I can't think of a good one.

You know, we're talking about puns here.

Faith filled puns.

Okay, there you go.

Faith filled puns.

Oh, how about there you go right here?

Faith filled puns.

Now that's a revelation.

I hope you got it.

Okay, I know, I know, I know.

I'm pulling this out of my hair here.

And you know, only those on video get that.

I don't have very much hair here.

Praise God.

I'm about ball.

Oh, I know, I know.

Okay, I could keep going.

I.

I won't.

You see what I mean?

You see?

Anyway, we're talking about using humor in your presentation.

Amen.

But in order for you to truly understand that, I want to show you a graphic that explains how basically, the evolution of humor.

Okay?

Now, as you view this picture and think about it, you'll get it.

But don't be like this when you're trying to tell a story.

I'm just going to read it for you.

For those on audio, it's.

I can't remember the name of the guy.

It's Hobbs.

And I can't remember the other guy, but he's got his little pet tiger there.

He says, so anyway, there's this dog, and he says something odd.

I don't remember it, but.

But this other guy, he says, well, I forget that, too, but it was funny.

And then the stuffed animal says, I'll try to imagine it.

And then Hobbs says, yeah, and you'll really laugh when you do.

Right?

So the cartoon makes more sense.

Amen.

But that's what I'm talking about.

Okay?

Don't be like this when you're trying to tell your story.

Amen.

Rehearse.

Rehearse more than once.

Rehearse.

You should be able to recite your entire presentation with the talking points, the main talking points, just off the top of your head.

Okay?

It may never sound exactly the same on any two presentations, but the talking points will always be the same.

Amen.

You will always get your talking points in.

It's your talking points that really matter.

I recommend that you should have three, no more than four main talking points and the ability to dive a little bit deeper on each one of those talking points, depending on how long you have for your presentation, because you need to get all of your talking points in the three main talking points, folks.

If I said, depending on how long you have, let's say you have a 45 minute platform, you're on the stage, you're in your presentation, and you have 45 minutes.

You need to get all three of your main talking points in and the ability to dive deeper on each talking point.

Okay.

And, and by doing that, you can have your three main talking points and three sub talking points on each point.

Now, how does all this tie together?

Well, back in 2023, just a couple years ago, I was interviewed on a New York City radio program about what I do.

And all of this, all of this is in the interview training program again over@faithcasteracademy.com if you want to get it.

And this particular thing I'm talking about, this interview is an example of how to get your talking points in even when you only have a few minutes.

And it's on video number eight.

But I knew going in, this is radio, it's a radio program.

I'm only going to have about four minutes.

I think they gave me four and a half.

So in that four and a half minutes, not only did I get my three main talking points in, I was able to get in two additional sub talking points as well.

The point I'm trying to make is get your talking points in, period.
