Speaker A

Foreign hello good people.

Speaker A

Welcome to Daily Bible Refresh brought to you by Voice of God Daily.

Speaker A

My name is Dr.

Speaker A

Brad Miller and every day we offer you a fresh approach to the reading of the Bible.

Speaker A

On a daily basis we use the Revised Common Lectionary to read the selected verse of Scriptures for this very day.

Speaker A

We're in Year C of a three year cycle of reading through the entire Bible and we're in the epiphany season.

Speaker A

This is brought to you by Voice of God Daily where we bring you a daily reading that is both understandable in as much as we read from the New Testament, only from the message translation of the Bible.

Speaker A

Relatable by offering you a couple of points to ponder and applicable by giving you an action step to take.

Speaker A

We have a prayer and we do all of that in under 10 minutes.

Speaker A

Today's message is from Luke chapter 4, verses 42 through 44.

Speaker A

Reading from the message, he left the next day for the open country, but the crowds went looking for him and when they found him clung to him so he couldn't go on.

Speaker A

He told them, don't you realize there are yet other villages where I have to tell the message of God's kingdom and that this is the work God sent me to do?

Speaker A

Meanwhile, he continued preaching in the meeting places of Galilee.

Speaker A

A very short reading for the day.

Speaker A

Very powerful though.

Speaker A

Let's get into a reflection of a few points to ponder about how Jesus navigates the demands of ministry by and remains true to to his broader mission.

Speaker A

Points to ponder Sacred Boundaries Jesus models the importance of setting healthy boundaries even when faced with people's genuine need.

Speaker A

In a modern context, this reminds us that saying no can actually be a holy act in as much as it allows us to better serve our bigger calling.

Speaker A

We have to care for ourselves and maintain our spiritual well being in order to be able to be in a position to care for the well being of others.

Speaker A

A second point is movement versus Institution.

Speaker A

Jesus resists being tied to one location or community.

Speaker A

This challenges our tendency to build institutional structures and calls us perhaps to more fluid and responsive approach to where the Spirit leads.

Speaker A

The message of God's kingdom is meant to move and be nimble and evolve.

Speaker A

A third point is the inclusive mission.

Speaker A

Jesus's determination to reach other villages reflects God's expansive love.

Speaker A

This passage of Scripture challenges us to examine whether we're creating exclusive spiritual spaces are truly working to extend God's radical welcome to all people and all communities, especially those who may be in the margins.

Speaker A

Here's your action step for the day.

Speaker A

Identify an area where you need to set better boundaries in your life so you're better freed up to move beyond your comfort zone when you when you're ready.

Speaker A

So take a concrete step in that direction, whether it's saying no to an over commitment or reaching out to a community different than your own.

Speaker A

We'll have a closing prayer in just a moment here.

Speaker A
