Here is your host, Randy Black.
Speaker 2 00:00:47
In Matthew chapter 9, Jesus performs a miraculous healing by casting a demon from a man who could not speak.
Speaker 2 00:00:58
His ability to communicate.
Speaker 2 00:01:00
This short but powerful passage emphasizes not only Christ's authority over spiritual forces.
Speaker 2 00:01:10
but also the varying reactions people have toward God's work.
Speaker 2 00:01:14
This miracle invites us to reflect on Christ's power over the physical and spiritual realms.
Speaker 2 00:01:22
how people respond to God's works and the importance of faith.
Speaker 2 00:01:30
As we do each week, let's open up with a prayer.
Speaker 2 00:01:34
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your power and mercy, which heal not only our bodies, but also our souls
Speaker 2 00:01:44
Open our hearts to understand your word today.
Speaker 2 00:01:48
Help us to recognize your work in our lives and respond with gratitude and with faith.
Speaker 2 00:01:56
Remove any doubts or hardened thoughts within us, so that we may embrace your truth.
Speaker 2 00:02:05
In Jesus' name we pray.
Speaker 2 00:02:07
Amen.
Speaker 2 00:02:15
Matthew chapter nine verses thirty-two through thirty-four.
Speaker 2 00:02:20
Now, as they were going out, behold, a demon possessed.
Speaker 2 00:02:24
man who was unable to speak was brought to him.
Speaker 2 00:02:27
And after the demon was cast out, the man who was previously unable to speak talked.
Speaker 2 00:02:33
And the crowds were amazed and were saying, Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.
Speaker 2 00:02:39
But the Pharisees were saying he casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.
Speaker 2 00:02:46
In this passage, a man afflicted by both a spiritual and physical condition, demonic.
Speaker 2 00:02:54
possession and the inability to speak is brought to Jesus.
Speaker 2 00:02:58
This reflects the compassion of those who cared enough to bring him to Christ.
Speaker 2 00:03:05
Their actions remind us that when people are spiritually or physically bound, it may require others to help them encounter Jesus
Speaker 2 00:03:17
Jesus immediately acts by casting out the demon, and the man's ability to speak is restored.
Speaker 2 00:03:25
The healing is instantaneous, showing the absolute authority of Christ over spiritual forces.
Speaker 2 00:03:33
This reinforces the truth that nothing is too difficult for Jesus, whether it is spiritual bondage or physical infirmity
Speaker 2 00:03:42
The response from the crowd is awe and wonder.
Speaker 2 00:03:46
They recognize that something extraordinary has occurred, admitting that such miracles have not been seen before in Israel
Speaker 2 00:03:54
This amazement underscores the uniqueness of Jesus' ministry, which revealed the power and compassion of God in ways previously unimaginable.
Speaker 2 00:04:07
In stark contrast, the Pharisees respond with hostility and skepticism.
Speaker 2 00:04:13
Rather than celebrating the miracle, they accuse Jesus of working through the power of Satan
Speaker 2 00:04:20
This accusation highlights the hardness of their hearts as they refuse to acknowledge God's work through Christ.
Speaker 2 00:04:28
Their rejection reflects a theme found throughout the Gospels.
Speaker 2 00:04:33
Spiritual blindness can prevent people from recognizing God's truth, even when it is right before them.
Speaker 2 00:04:41
This account encourages us to examine our own responses to God's work.
Speaker 2 00:04:47
Do we, like the crowd, marvel at his goodness, or do we
Speaker 2 00:04:53
like the Pharisees, resist his power due to pride or doubt.
Speaker 2 00:05:00
This passage challenges us to have hearts that are open to seeing God's hand in our lives, and to respond with faith,
Speaker 2 00:05:08
rather than suspicion.
Speaker 2 00:05:12
We have five key takeaways from this passage of scripture
Speaker 2 00:05:16
Our first is that Jesus has complete authority over both spiritual forces and physical infirmities.
Speaker 2 00:05:22
In this scripture, Jesus demonstrates his unmatched power.
Speaker 2 00:05:26
by not only healing the man's speech, but also by casting out the demon that was binding him.
Speaker 2 00:05:33
This shows that
Speaker 2 00:05:35
Christ's authority extends across both the physical and the spiritual realms, leaving no area beyond his reach.
Speaker 2 00:05:43
No matter how severe the condition, Jesus can bring healing and restoration.
Speaker 2 00:05:49
His actions invite us to trust that God is sovereign over every challenge we face, whether seen or unseen
Speaker 2 00:05:58
Knowing this, we can have confidence that his power is greater than any struggle or opposition in our lives
Speaker 2 00:06:07
Our second takeaway is that miracles require faith, either from the individual in need or from those around them.
Speaker 2 00:06:15
The man in this scripture could not bring himself to Jesus.
Speaker 2 00:06:20
It was the faith and the effort of others that brought him to the healing
Speaker 2 00:06:24
This highlights the importance of intercession and community in experiencing God's miracles.
Speaker 2 00:06:30
Sometimes we need others to stand in the gap for us through prayer or action, just as we are called to do the same for others.
Speaker 2 00:06:39
Faith in God's power can create opportunities for his intervention in seemingly impossible situations.
Speaker 2 00:06:47
Even when people cannot express their faith themselves, God honors the faith of those who bring others into his presence.
Speaker 2 00:06:58
Our third takeaway is that God's power often surprises and amazes, but not everyone will respond with faith
Speaker 2 00:07:07
The crowd marveled at this miracle, recognizing that such power had never been seen before in Israel
Speaker 2 00:07:14
However, the Pharisees dismissed it, showing that even witnessing a miracle does not guarantee faith
Speaker 2 00:07:23
People respond to God's work differently.
Speaker 2 00:07:26
Some with amazement, others with skepticism.
Speaker 2 00:07:30
This serves as a reminder that we should not be discouraged when others reject what God is doing in our lives.
Speaker 2 00:07:37
or the lives of others.
Speaker 2 00:07:39
Faith requires an open heart, while unbelief often stems from pride or fear of losing control
Speaker 2 00:07:49
Our fourth takeaway is that spiritual pride and skepticism can prevent people from recognizing God's work.
Speaker 2 00:07:58
The Pharisees' rejection of Jesus' miracle exposes how pride can blind people to the truth
Speaker 2 00:08:05
Rather than celebrating the healing, they try to discredit Jesus, showing how preconceived notions and prideful hearts can distort reality.
Speaker 2 00:08:15
This teaches us that skepticism rooted in pride can cause us to miss out on God's blessings and interventions.
Speaker 2 00:08:24
We need to approach God with humility, always open to seeing Him work in ways we might not expect
Speaker 2 00:08:31
Spiritual pride creates barriers, while humility opens the door to God's transformative power
Speaker 2 00:08:40
And our last takeaway is that we are called to bring others to Jesus, especially those who are spiritually or physically bound.
Speaker 2 00:08:49
Just as the man's companions brought him to Jesus, we are called to help others encounter Christ, especially those trapped by circumstances beyond their control.
Speaker 2 00:09:01
Some people may not have the strength or the knowledge to seek Jesus on their own, and our role is to guide them toward him.
Speaker 2 00:09:11
This act of bringing others to Jesus is an expression of love and faith, reflecting God's heart for the lost and the broken.
Speaker 2 00:09:22
Whether through prayer, encouragement, or action, we can be instruments of God's healing in others' lives.
Speaker 2 00:09:31
Our willingness to bring others to Christ creates opportunities for them to experience his life-changing power
Speaker 2 00:09:41
The healed man in this scripture reminds us of the importance of spiritual freedom
Speaker 2 00:09:48
Many people today struggle with forms of bondage, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, that hinder their ability to fully engage with life or God.
Speaker 2 00:10:02
Just as the man needed others to bring him to Jesus, we too are called to help others experience the freedom that only Christ can offer
Speaker 2 00:10:13
Who in our lives might be waiting for an invitation to encounter Jesus?
Speaker 2 00:10:20
The scripture also confronts us with the reality that not everyone responds positively to God's work.
Speaker 2 00:10:27
The crowd's amazement contrasts sharply with the Pharisees' rejection.
Speaker 2 00:10:33
This teaches us that faith and openness to God are essential.
Speaker 2 00:10:37
We must guard our hearts against pride and cynicism, which can prevent us from seeing and celebrating the miracles God performs around us.
Speaker 2 00:10:50
Moreover, this healing, this miracle highlights the significance of communication.
Speaker 2 00:10:57
This man's inability to speak was both a physical and spiritual limitation.
Speaker 2 00:11:03
When Jesus restores his speech, it symbolizes the restoration of relationships with God, with others, and with his own identity
Speaker 2 00:11:14
It reminds us that Christ not only sets us free, but also equips us to share our testimonies.
Speaker 2 00:11:21
The Pharisees' accusation that Jesus worked through Satan warns us of the dangers of misunderstanding or misattributing God's power
Speaker 2 00:11:31
It's easy to fall into skepticism when we do not understand how God is working.
Speaker 2 00:11:38
This passage of Scripture encourages us to ask for discernment and humility
Speaker 2 00:11:44
Trusting in God's ways are higher than ours.
Speaker 2 00:11:49
Finally, the simplicity and the swiftness of Jesus' healing point us toward his ultimate mission
Speaker 2 00:11:57
to free people from every form of bondage.
Speaker 2 00:12:01
When we encounter difficulties in life, we can find hope in knowing that Christ is always able to heal, deliver.
Speaker 2 00:12:11
and restore.
Speaker 2 00:12:13
Let's close out our study of the scripture with a prayer.
Speaker 2 00:12:18
Lord Jesus, we thank you for the healing and freedom that only you can bring
Speaker 2 00:12:24
Give us faith to trust in your power, even when we do not understand your ways
Speaker 2 00:12:32
Help us to recognize your hand at work in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
Speaker 2 00:12:39
Keep us
Speaker 2 00:12:42
From pride and from skepticism, and give us hearts that are open to your truth
Speaker 2 00:12:50
Strengthen us to bring others to you so that they too may experience your love and freedom.
Speaker 2 00:12:59
In your holy name we pray.
Speaker 2 00:13:02
Amen

Speaker 2 00:13:42
That first form is time.
Speaker 2 00:13:43
Time is as simple as
Speaker 2 00:13:45
listening to the show, and there are l several of you that do each and every week, based on the stats I can look at and see.
Speaker 2 00:13:51
Uh you can also take the time to share the podcast with someone else, giving up your time to tell them about it
Speaker 2 00:13:58
You can share in the form of talent, so if you want to offer up a uh a piece of cover art to use for one of the episodes, or provide a scripture to look at and potentially create content with
Speaker 2 00:14:11
Or even write a lesson on some scripture.
Speaker 2 00:14:15
Or even go as far as offering to record with us and be a part of the show.
Speaker 2 00:14:20
That is a great offer of talent that you can do
Speaker 2 00:14:22
And the final is through treasure.
Speaker 2 00:14:25
And that would obviously by treasure we mean something that is tangible, financial.
Speaker 2 00:14:29
You can do that by listening in a modern podcast app where you're able to stream Satoshis
Speaker 2 00:14:35
um or uh send a boost to the show which is an amount of satoshis uh or a boost to gram that is an amount of satoshis with a comment, a message, something attached there to to to encourage us to keep doing what we're doing.

Speaker 2 00:15:31
We hope that we can lift up those prayers in this community so that we can raise them up to God and we can get some type of healing or answer or response from God that fits with his will.
Speaker 2 00:15:45
Just a quick praise report, a gentleman that we had recently requested prayer for here on the show, Jimmy Clayton.
Speaker 2 00:15:53
Jimmy had a scan done um looking at the cancer that was in his body and it looks that
Speaker 2 00:16:01
There are zero signs of the cancer being active now at this point.
Speaker 2 00:16:05
And I text with Jimmy back and forth the other day, and he was so appreciative of the prayers that he's been receiving.
Speaker 2 00:16:13
and was just so proud to say that God had taken care of it.
Speaker 2 00:16:18
And I love that.
Speaker 2 00:16:19
Jimmy's such a positive man anyway, uh, but hearing him reading him say that made it that much better for me.
Speaker 2 00:16:28
Prayer request this week, of course, I'm going to continue to request that people pray for my dad.
Speaker 2 00:16:34
Several weeks now we've talked about it.
Speaker 2 00:16:36
He has been diagnosed with cancer.
Speaker 2 00:16:39
And they're getting ready to start tests and then do a procedure and then start his treatment.
Speaker 2 00:16:45
We're looking at that over the next month or month or two.
Speaker 2 00:16:49
Um, we're hoping that once the treatment starts, the doctors have been pretty confident that they can treat it within six to nine weeks of starting treatment.
Speaker 2 00:16:56
So we'll see how that goes
Speaker 2 00:16:58
I still want to request that anyone listening prays for me.
Speaker 2 00:17:01
I'm still having health issues.
Speaker 2 00:17:03
I just had one the other day where I have an issue with fluid retention and stuff in my leg, and occasionally I'll just
Speaker 2 00:17:11
spike a fever.
Speaker 2 00:17:12
Um and my leg will get really red and inflamed.
Speaker 2 00:17:16
Not really swollen because it's all it's always large from that.
Speaker 2 00:17:20
But uh that happened the other day and I had a
Speaker 2 00:17:23
pretty serious issue with it where I had to leave work early and come home and and I slept for gosh, fourteen hours I think total altogether.
Speaker 2 00:17:32
Um and then, you know, afterwards from having the fever and
Speaker 2 00:17:35
apparently shivering because I don't remember it very well.
Speaker 2 00:17:38
Um I uh spent the day Friday uh home from work
Speaker 2 00:17:43
Um, just trying to recover and and get my energy and stuff back.
Speaker 2 00:17:47
So if you can, please please remember me.
Speaker 2 00:17:50
Um
Speaker 2 00:17:51
Still remember those people in the areas affected by the storm, Selene and Milton, that they can continue to recover and and and rebuild and bring their lives back to a sense of normalcy.
Speaker 2 00:18:02
So with that said, let's go ahead and close out this section of our show and the show with a prayer.
Speaker 2 00:18:12
Heavenly Father, we again thank you for this chance to come together and learn from the Bible, your word
Speaker 2 00:18:20
We come together and we lift up these requests.
Speaker 2 00:18:24
Continue to touch and heal my Father and stir his heart that he can return to you.
Speaker 2 00:18:33
Remember me, Lord, I have these health issues and we're working to address them, and I know that you are the one who can who can heal them and and make me better.
Speaker 2 00:18:43
And thank you, Lord, for the healing you've put on Jimmy.
Speaker 2 00:18:47
It was great to get that message from him and hear that the cancer appears to be gone and he praised you for that.
Speaker 2 00:18:55
Remember any unspoken requests our audience has so that you may touch them in the way that you deem to be best.
Speaker 2 00:19:03
We know that you hold the answers to all of our prayers, and we trust you.
Speaker 2 00:19:09
And trust in your wisdom to meet those requests with the answer you provide.
Speaker 2 00:19:16
Also, Lord, it's in your name that we work and strive to share you with the world each week here on the podcast
Speaker 2 00:19:22
and that the world might accept your son Jesus as their savior and spend eternity in heaven with you and me
Speaker 2 00:19:32
And him and all of us that are saved.
Speaker 2 00:19:35
In Jesus' name we pray.
Speaker 2 00:19:37
Amen.
Speaker 2 00:19:40
Our next episode is going to look at Jesus healing an invalid in the town of Bethesda.
Speaker 2 00:19:47
