Welcome back to another health hack. Today, I want to talk about food combining for energy. Do you ever feel like you need a nap after lunch, or maybe your energy crashes an hour after a snack? The sluggishness might not just be about what you're eating, although that can be a factor. It could be about how you're combining your foods. Your digestive system has different tools to break down different foods, proteins, fats, carb, fruit, and when we mix them all together in one sitting, it can overwhelm the system and slow everything down, and that can lead to bloating, fatigue, and yes, those mid afternoon energy crashes. Here's a simple tip to start boosting your digestion and energy naturally, you want to eat fruit alone, especially melons, they digest super fast because they're predominantly water, so it's really easy for your body to break it down. Imagine eating fruit after a steak. A steak is much harder for your body to break down, and then the fruit, which breaks down really easily, gets backlogged behind the steak. And when it is backlogged, it can actually start to putrefy, and that can cause gas, that can cause bloating, whereas if you eat the fruit first, it can move through and be digested before you put the next food in. You want to pair protein with veggies, like grilled salmon plus greens. That's a big energy win. And then go light on starches and fat combos. Think creamy pasta that can leave you foggy after eating that, and keep an eye on how much sugar is sneaking into your meals and your drinks, even healthy smoothies or granola bars can spike blood sugar only to leave you crashing later. And energy drinks bought at the store, yep, designed to give you more energy, and they're loaded with sugar. They're great if you're doing a marathon and you need the energy in the moment, and maybe you're going to have a few of them from aid stations as you do the marathon. They're not great as a daily method of hydration, stick to water. Food combination isn't about restriction, it's about creating ease in your body so digestion flows smoothly and energy stays steady throughout your day, your gut will thank you and your energy well, it will rise up to meet your day.
