Welcome to the podcast today.
Speaker ABrian Del Turco here with the Jesus Smart x podcast.
Speaker AEpisode 346.
Speaker AWhat's it called today?
Speaker AFaith gains.
Speaker AWhy your spirit needs resistance to grow.
Speaker AThis is going to be short and I'm hoping it's like a kingdom spiritual protein shake for you.
Speaker AYou know, in fitness, a bodybuilder or even let's say a 60 year old who's trying to get fit and healthy, they don't grow by lifting air, okay?
Speaker ARunners don't improve by jogging in place.
Speaker AMuscles need weight, lungs need a challenge.
Speaker AAnd your spirit, it needs resistance too.
Speaker AThat very pressure that you're uncomfortable with and you want to avoid are like likely signals.
Speaker AAnd we'll talk about that in a second.
Speaker ASignals that God is sending to your spirit to cause it to adapt and to grow.
Speaker ABefore we get into it, I want to encourage you to take a look at the episode preceding this.
Speaker AEpisode number 345 is the Micro ecclesia.
Speaker AGod's new mega move is small, the new big in the kingdom.
Speaker AAnd what is the power of a micro ecclesia?
Speaker AAnd then episode 344, sort of a practical wellness episode.
Speaker ASleeping your way to a better brain.
Speaker ASleeping, Getting good rest is one of the most important things we can do to cultivate brain health over a lifetime.
Speaker ABut let's get into this today.
Speaker AIt's going to be tight, it's going to be short and punchy.
Speaker AThe human body adapts when it receives signals from stress, like lifting heavier weights or running a longer distance or walking faster.
Speaker AJust pushing outside of the normal comfort zones creates an adaptation in the human body.
Speaker ASo if we're interested in like wellness, if we're interested in increasing our lung capacity, our breathing, our circulatory system, our oxygen to our brain, our functional strength so that we can lift things and move and have mobility and walk without injury or stress and strain, we have to put healthy resistance on the human body.
Speaker AAnd what this does is it signals.
Speaker AI've been doing a little research lately because I've been on a wellness kick here lately.
Speaker AIt signals.
Speaker AThese experiences signal the human body.
Speaker AHey, surprise, there's something new here, something novel here, something that you've not done before.
Speaker AAnd it signals and catalyzes the human body to adapt.
Speaker AThat's how you get stronger and getting fitter.
Speaker AYou know, when you lift weights, for example, let's say you're doing a bit of resistance training, some dumbbells for your upper body strength, you actually break down your muscle tissue.
Speaker AIt's actually breaking down and getting Weaker temporarily.
Speaker ABut then as it recovers, let's say over a 48, 72 hour period, it not only recovers to where it was at before, but it makes these micro adaptations and increases the muscle tissue both in size and strength and fitness.
Speaker AAnd as you maintain consistency, that's why eventually you have to increase the weight a little bit or the reps, likely the weight.
Speaker AOr let's say you're walking and yeah, okay, you're walking 40 minutes a day.
Speaker AThat's good, keep doing that.
Speaker AGet about 150 minutes of movement a week to maintain your wellness.
Speaker ABut if you're noticing that I'm not, you've plateaued.
Speaker AMaybe you're losing weight and it's plateaued.
Speaker AWhat we need to do is to signal the human body with something novel, surprise it and shock it just a little bit.
Speaker AAnd so I'm going to, let's see, I'm going to walk faster or I'm going to add a little bit of time to the walk or I'm going to walk for eight minutes and jog for two.
Speaker AWalk for eight, jog for two, do this intermittent running a little bit with our walk or I'm going to do what's called rucking.
Speaker AR U C K I N G I haven't started this yet, but I'm thinking about it where you put on a backpack or you put on a weighted vest and you walk with say 20, 30, 40 pounds of weight on your body.
Speaker AWell that would be a new, fresh novel, surprising signal to your body and your body will respond, bond.
Speaker AOkay, now without these signals, the body will atrophy, it will decline, it will weaken and shrink over time.
Speaker ANow here's the not only an analogy, but nature biology is speaking to us about new life in Christ.
Speaker AThe new creation life that we have in Christ operates the same way.
Speaker AOur new man, our spirit, our new man in many ways is like a spiritual muscle.
Speaker AIt only grows when it's tested.
Speaker AWell, I don't want to be tested.
Speaker AIt's uncomfortable.
Speaker AI'm tired of going through test.
Speaker AI know, but those, those are the reps, trials, obstacles, could be spiritual warfare, resistance and friction on something they can serve.
Speaker AThey will serve especially as we process right with the Lord as growth signals.
Speaker AIf we respond in faith.
Speaker AYour new man, your new nature that you receive when you're born again, it's not static, it's dynamic.
Speaker AAnd here's a great verse, Paul, in Colossians 3:10 we put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge.
Speaker AWait a minute, my new man is renewed.
Speaker AIt could also be translated renovated.
Speaker AYes, it's renewed in knowledge according to the image of him who created him.
Speaker AOur new man has that potential to be renovated and renewed in alignment with, in harmony with.
Speaker AAccording to the image of the Creator.
Speaker AWe carry the image of God in the earth.
Speaker AWe are image bearers, and as such, we are vice regents to execute royal authority on his behalf.
Speaker AIn his stead, we are kingdom emissaries, ambassadors and kingdom agents.
Speaker ABut this comes with training.
Speaker ATraining develops.
Speaker AOur new man renovates.
Speaker AOur new man.
Speaker ANow, in James one familiar scripture.
Speaker AYou might be familiar with it.
Speaker ATwo to four, count it all joy.
Speaker AWhy?
Speaker AKnowing something.
Speaker AKnowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
Speaker AAnd let endurance have its perfect or complete result, that you may be perfect and complete in everything, lacking in nothing.
Speaker AThen it goes on to say, if anybody lacks in wisdom, let them ask of God who gives to all.
Speaker ADon't you want to be there?
Speaker ADon't you want to be asking God for wisdom?
Speaker ADon't you want to come to a place where, in a real sense you're lacking nothing?
Speaker ANot just money, but lacking in all of the domains of life?
Speaker ABeing more complete, more mature.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker ARemember this.
Speaker AGod is not trying to break you.
Speaker AHe's training you.
Speaker AThere's a big difference between being broken and being trained.
Speaker AEvery challenge that we we face is a faith workout.
Speaker AAnd so what do we need to do?
Speaker AI told you this is going to be short.
Speaker AThink about this.
Speaker AApply this.
Speaker AWhat do we need to do?
Speaker AWhat is the takeaway?
Speaker AShift your view.
Speaker AShift the way you see it.
Speaker ASee tests not as interruptions, but as invitations to grow.
Speaker AIt's a call to become more, to be more.
Speaker AIt starts with being.
Speaker ABe more, become more.
Speaker AOut of that will flow doing more.
Speaker AAs we serve the Lord Jesus said, and this needs to be our statement.
Speaker AMy Father is working until now, and I am also working.
Speaker AIn other words, in harmony with my Father.
Speaker ASo doing more.
Speaker AHere's another takeaway.
Speaker ALean into it.
Speaker ALean into the resistance.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker APray declare the truth of God's word and obey God's leading by his spirit in the challenge.
Speaker ALean into it.
Speaker AThis is your opportunity.
Speaker AThis is your chance.
Speaker ALean into the resistance.
Speaker AResistance isn't something.
Speaker AOh God, just take it away.
Speaker AI can't adore it anymore.
Speaker ALean into it and train through it or be trained through it.
Speaker AHere's another takeaway.
Speaker ATrack your progress.
Speaker AWhat you track, what you write down, what you think about in terms of your progress will help you and motivate you and inspire you.
Speaker ANotice how your faith is increasing after Past trials, notice how your peace and your endurance and basically your internal capacity to be more, carry more, do more, track your progress so that shift your view about it.
Speaker ADon't whine and complain about it.
Speaker ABecome an athlete.
Speaker AGet athletic in the Lord, right?
Speaker ABecome a soldier.
Speaker ABe trained.
Speaker ALean into the resistance.
Speaker AThe resistance is there to train you, to not only help you to survive, but to thrive, track your progress.
Speaker ASo if your faith is being tested and whose faith isn't, you will go through cycles and seasons of testing.
Speaker ADon't just survive it, let's optimize it.
Speaker ALet's train through it.
Speaker ALet the test, let the trial be a signal from God that grows you into that strong, mature follower of Christ you're called to be.
Speaker ATrain right through it.
Speaker ASee the victory.
Speaker ASee the trophy.
Speaker AIt said of Jesus that he endured the cross because of the joy that was set before him.
Speaker AYou're going to come into joy.
Speaker AWeeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
Speaker AAgain, it says in James 1, consider it all joy.
Speaker AWhen you encounter these things, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance, steadfastness, completeness, it turns you into a winner.
Speaker ASo train right through it.
Speaker AFather, can we pray just for a minute?
Speaker AFather, we come before you and we thank you that there is no temptation that's beyond us, that there's always a way of escape.
Speaker AThere's no trial that you would allow to come into our lives, that we cannot train through it and become more, be more, do more.
Speaker AThere's no resistance that we could encounter, that we cannot go through it and bring you glory and pleasure.
Speaker AAnd that we can come out saying, I see my father working on some things and I also am working.
Speaker AYou'll be working more.
Speaker AYou'll be more fruitful.
Speaker AYou'll do more with your father.
Speaker ABe about your Father's business.
Speaker ASo, Father, we thank you.
Speaker AWe pray for the perspective of joy.
Speaker AWe pray for the steadfastness of faith.
Speaker AWe receive the energy and power of the Holy Spirit.
Speaker AAnd we give us that winner's attitude, Father.
Speaker AGive us that winner's attitude.
Speaker AThanks be to God who always leads us in his triumph in Christ Jesus and diffuses through us everywhere the fragrance of his being.
Speaker AThank you, God.
Speaker AWe give you glory.
Speaker AI pray for my friend today that you would bring all of this into their life, that they would run with others in the body of Christ and that they would fully develop into all that you have for them in Jesus name.
Speaker AAmen.
Speaker AThank you.
Speaker AWe'll see you soon on the podcast.
