Speaker:Welcome to episode number 49 of the Intermittent Fasting Gems with Jen
Speaker:Podcast, and we've almost reached 50 episodes and the one year anniversary
Speaker:mark of this podcast, and I am still just as excited about it as I was.
Speaker:A year ago when I started.
Speaker:So, hey, a big shout out to you.

Speaker:Alright, I am so excited about today's episode and I've been wanting
Speaker:to do this one for a while now.
Speaker:Today's episode.
Speaker:Is a star studded one, literally because we are diving into fasting with the stars.
Speaker:33 famous people who love intermittent fasting just like you and me.
Speaker:If you've ever wondered which celebrities or public figures share your love
Speaker:of fasting, you're in for a treat.
Speaker:Intermittent fasting has become a go-to wellness and a weight loss secret for
Speaker:some of the world's most famous faces.
Speaker:And today I'm gonna introduce you to 33 stars who credit if with keeping them fit.
Speaker:Focused and feeling their best.
Speaker:You'll hear about their unique fasting schedules, favorite routines, and
Speaker:some insider tidbits you may not know.
Speaker:All right, first on our list is Terry.
Speaker:Cruz.
Speaker:Terry Cruz is an American actor, television host and former professional
Speaker:football player who is widely recognized for being pretty funny,
Speaker:and he's pretty darn ripped too.
Speaker:He initially gained fame as an NFL athlete, and after retiring from football,
Speaker:he became famous in entertainment for roles and hit TV shows like.
Speaker:Brooklyn nine nine, and one of my favorite shows hosting
Speaker:America's Got Talent since 2019.
Speaker:Alright, so Terry typically follows a daily 16 eight intermittent fasting
Speaker:schedule, eating between 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM He drinks coffee.
Speaker:Tea or coconut oil during fasting?
Speaker:Hmm.
Speaker:Coconut oil.
Speaker:That is interesting.
Speaker:He credits if F for keeping him lean and he is also very vocal about
Speaker:the longevity benefits of fasting.
Speaker:Number two on our list is Hugh Jackman, who is an Australian actor
Speaker:and singer, best known for his iconic role as Wolverine in the X-Men Film
Speaker:Series, and for his performances in musicals and dramas like Le
Speaker:Miserable and The Greatest Showman.
Speaker:I loved that, um, movie.
Speaker:That was really good.
Speaker:So Hugh used a 16 eight regimen to build muscle and stay lean
Speaker:for his Wolverine rolls, and said he found it more manageable than
Speaker:eating every two to three hours.
Speaker:He then just continued this approach for, uh, many years following.
Speaker:Next up is Jimmy Kimmel.
Speaker:Who we all know as the host and executive producer of the Long Running
Speaker:Late Night Talk show, Jimmy Kimmel live on a, b, C, where he has become
Speaker:a household name for his comedic interviews, popular comedy bits.
Speaker:Um.
Speaker:And influential presence in late night TV since 2003.
Speaker:Jimmy's IF routine is one that is not quite as popular as the 16 eight method
Speaker:that we all know about, and that is the five two diet or the five two method.
Speaker:So Jimmy does the five two method, uh, this way.
Speaker:He eats under 500 calories on Mondays and Thursdays, and then he eats
Speaker:normally for the rest of the week.
Speaker:He evidently lost 25 pounds with this method and has maintained a weight
Speaker:of around 182 pounds with this plan.
Speaker:So I've read.
Speaker:Different things about the five two method and it looks like he does the what, what
Speaker:we would call the modified version of the five two, where he eats 500 calories
Speaker:or less on two days during the week.
Speaker:Another more strict version of the five two would be where you eat zero calories
Speaker:for those two days and just stick to your coffee, tea, and water, um, and then eat.
Speaker:Pretty regular on the other five days.
Speaker:I've actually done the five two method on a few occasions and
Speaker:had pretty good success with it.
Speaker:However, on the five off days, I usually stuck to more of an
Speaker:18 six or a 16 eight schedule.
Speaker:It really is a good method to try if you wanna push through a weight
Speaker:loss plateau and mix things up a bit.
Speaker:Number four is the dreamy Chris Hemsworth.
Speaker:Chris Hemsworth is an Australian actor, best known for his role as Thor, and
Speaker:he's been in a lot of other movies too.
Speaker:If you're a woman listening, I'm sure you know who I am talking about Anyways,
Speaker:Chris typically uses the 16 eight method and sometimes throws in full day fast.
Speaker:Especially when he's preparing for a movie role.
Speaker:He credits fasting for increased energy and faster weight loss.
Speaker:Number five is Jack Dorsey.
Speaker:So Jack Dorsey is an American entrepreneur.
Speaker:He's a tech billionaire, best known as the co-founder of Twitter.
Speaker:And he is an OMA or one meal a day guy.
Speaker:Yay.
Speaker:Oma is definitely my favorite as most of you know.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:So Jack does what I do, or I guess I do what he does, and that is he
Speaker:fasts through breakfast and lunch and then eats only dinner and says
Speaker:that fasting provides him with heightened focus and productivity.
Speaker:And I absolutely agree that mental clarity is awesome.
Speaker:And also not having to worry about what you're going to eat for breakfast
Speaker:and lunch and just focusing on dinner hours is pretty freeing too.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:No political talk here, but number six on the list is Elon Musk and
Speaker:we all know who he is, but he definitely does fast periodically.
Speaker:He claimed to have used fasting to lose 20 pounds, and he also credits the use
Speaker:of the zero fasting app for his success.
Speaker:Number seven is the talented and beautiful actress Jennifer Aniston.
Speaker:Jen or Jennifer does not eat breakfast and consumes only liquids like coffee
Speaker:or celery juice in the morning.
Speaker:Then she eats in the later part of the day.
Speaker:She favors a 16 eight fasting routine and says that with fasting.
Speaker:She has really noticed a difference in her health.
Speaker:Number eight is Courtney Kardashian, another star who needs no introduction.
Speaker:So Courtney combines Keto with fasting, which I personally believe is a very
Speaker:powerful strategy that I have tried that I have found totally works.
Speaker:I know that combining omad with keto or low, carb.
Speaker:Uh, specifically around under 30 grams net carbs a day.
Speaker:It really worked wonders for me.
Speaker:Really helps speed up the weight loss.
Speaker:So Courtney does 14 to 16 hour fasts nightly, sometimes
Speaker:an extended 24 hour fast.
Speaker:Once, uh, weekly drinking water, bone broth, and green tea.
Speaker:During fasts.
Speaker:That brings us to number nine, another extreme beauty, and that is
Speaker:Brazilian supermodel, Giselle Chen.
Speaker:I looked that up on how to pronounce it so.
Speaker:Binge and yeah, I think so.
Speaker:She follows the five two method, eating normally five days a week
Speaker:and restricting her calories to 500 to 600 on the other two days.
Speaker:Uh, Giselle generally fasts until lunchtime, uh, twice a week and
Speaker:especially loves fasting for the digestion and health benefits.
Speaker:Next up is number 10.
Speaker:Um, Elsa Pataki.
Speaker:I, I think I looked up the pronunciation on that one too.
Speaker:Peti, Uck, something like that.
Speaker:She's a Spanish actress, uh, very beautiful producer model.
Speaker:She is married to Chris Hemsworth, who was number four on our
Speaker:fasting with the Stars list.
Speaker:So Elsa started fasting after being introduced to it by her husband Chris,
Speaker:and she's now an advocate for IF.
Speaker:And follows various intermittent fasting methods, mainly for the
Speaker:anti-aging and metabolic benefits.
Speaker:Number 11 is Andrew Huberman and he is a Stanford neuroscientist.
Speaker:He has been fasting for 12 to 16 hours a day for over a decade now, usually
Speaker:skipping breakfast and eating around noon.
Speaker:Andrew focuses on health span benefits and not just.
Speaker:Weight loss.
Speaker:He has a great podcast called the Huberman Lab, and I always see
Speaker:it pop up when I'm checking on my own podcast, um, on Apple usually.
Speaker:So you can just go to podcast and search intermittent fasting.
Speaker:And his will pop up.
Speaker:Okay, so next up is Joe Rogan, who is basically like
Speaker:the podcast king these days.
Speaker:Um, anyways, he uses intermittent fasting combined with the carnivore and
Speaker:ketogenic diet cycles for fitness energy.
Speaker:And he says, for podcast productivity, and I totally get that because I
Speaker:definitely get the most work done when I am in the fasted state.
Speaker:I always record my podcasts when I am pretty deep into my daily fast.
Speaker:I think right now, um, I am an hour.
Speaker:I'm on hour 16, so that's, that's a really good spot to kind of be in.
Speaker:Um, my mind just feels more clear and I have more energy for sure.
Speaker:Number 13 on our list is Halle Barry, another gorgeous actress
Speaker:who also happens to have type two diabetes, which I believe she was
Speaker:diagnosed with late in her twenties.
Speaker:So she prefers a ketogenic diet paired with if, and there have
Speaker:been a lot of studies done, um, and how that can be beneficial.
Speaker:Um, when we're talking about, uh, diabetes and things like that, , Halle
Speaker:usually eats in a six to eight hour window, uh, for steady blood sugar.
Speaker:Alright, so number 14, Scarlet Johansson, one of my favorite actresses of all time.
Speaker:She reportedly practiced intermittent fasting.
Speaker:To prepare for her action movie roles, including Black Widow, often
Speaker:eating during late shifts and fasting.
Speaker:In the mornings, number 15, oh, such a cutie pie is Reese Witherspoon.
Speaker:Again, another beautiful, adorable actress who will be 50 soon.
Speaker:Um, and we're only about six months apart, so I've always kind of related
Speaker:to her, but she does intermittent fasting with a compressed eating
Speaker:window, skipping breakfast and eating a balanced lunch later.
Speaker:The day, just keeping it pretty simple.
Speaker:And while we're on a roll with actresses, let's talk about Nicole Kidman.
Speaker:She also incorporates different forms of intermittent fasting
Speaker:into her lifestyle and uses it as an anti-aging and wellness tool.
Speaker:And I'd say.
Speaker:It's working pretty darn well for her.
Speaker:Number 17, Gwyneth Paltrow.
Speaker:She combines IF with wellness cleanses, often skipping breakfast
Speaker:for coffee or juice, and eating her meals in the afternoon and evening.
Speaker:Next up, number 18 is the beautiful Beyonce.
Speaker:Beyonce adopted intermittent fasting and plant-based diets after pregnancy
Speaker:for weight loss and to prepare for physically demanding performances.
Speaker:I love that.
Speaker:Number 19, George St. Pierre.
Speaker:Um, I hope I'm saying that right, but he is a Canadian former professional mixed
Speaker:martial artist, widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history.
Speaker:He utilizes intermittent fasting, uh, often oma or again, one meal
Speaker:a day to make weight for fights and to maintain peak performance.
Speaker:Number 20 on our list is Mark Wahlberg famous actor.
Speaker:Love me some Marky Mark.
Speaker:Gotta say.
Speaker:I also love the movie Daddy's Home that he is in with Will Ferrell.
Speaker:It's just so funny.
Speaker:Uh, mark follows an 18 six fasting routine eating between noon and 6:00 PM.
Speaker:His routine includes high protein foods to build muscle and
Speaker:maintain a disciplined schedule.
Speaker:Love it.
Speaker:Number 21 is Molly Sims, American Fashion Model and actress.
Speaker:She regularly follows an intermittent fasting diet routine, often using a
Speaker:16 eight eating window, and she makes sure to avoid late night eating for
Speaker:better fat loss and metabolism boosting.
Speaker:Much agreed.
Speaker:Vanessa Hudgens, uh, an American actress and singer, she embraces the
Speaker:16 eight intermittent fasting schedule as part of her wellness and weight
Speaker:maintenance plan, and she combines fasting with yoga and low carb eating.
Speaker:Number 23 is Brooke Burke.
Speaker:So Brooke is an American television host, model actress, and she is a fitness
Speaker:personality, I guess you could say.
Speaker:She was also the co-host on Dancing with the Stars.
Speaker:And she is a big fitness guru and has launched fitness apps and worked as a
Speaker:fitness educator and a wellness advocate.
Speaker:Brooke herself uses a 16 eight plan and encourages her audience to try fasting for
Speaker:weight loss, metabolism, and longevity.
Speaker:Number 24.
Speaker:Megan Fox, the Transformers actress reportedly does intermittent fasting as
Speaker:part of a carb cycling and fitness routine to stay lean for demanding movie roles.
Speaker:And I've kind of dabbled in some of that carb cycling.
Speaker:I find it very interesting.
Speaker:I actually would like to learn more about how all of that works.
Speaker:So maybe that's something for a further episode.
Speaker:Um, and how carb cycling and intermittent fasting can kind of work together,
Speaker:for, speeding up weight loss and, um.
Speaker:Other benefits too.
Speaker:All right, here we go.
Speaker:Number 25 is Miranda Kerr, an Australian model.
Speaker:She rose to fame in 2007 as one of the Victoria's Secret angels.
Speaker:She is so stinking beautiful.
Speaker:She has that like, very unique look about her.
Speaker:So gorgeous.
Speaker:Uh, anyways, I thought her intermittent fasting routine
Speaker:was very interesting actually.
Speaker:So Miranda practices an 80 20 approach, uh, meaning.
Speaker:She eats healthy 80% of the time during her eating window and allows for treats
Speaker:20% of the time, and she typically combines, uh, if with plant-based meals.
Speaker:I just thought that was interesting.
Speaker:Number 26 is Christian Bale, another famous actor, the Dark Night guy.
Speaker:He used intermittent fasting strategies to shed weight for several movie roles.
Speaker:Allowing rapid muscle gain or fat loss as needed for films.
Speaker:Number 27, uh, Padma Lakshmi.
Speaker:I look that one up too.
Speaker:I think that's how you pronounce it, Padma.
Speaker:She's the top chef host who, um, after doing a lot of her own research, she
Speaker:adopted an intermittent fasting lifestyle.
Speaker:She mainly follows a 16 eight IF schedule four, gut health, and
Speaker:for weight maintenance number 28.
Speaker:Gabrielle Union, another famous actress who practices intermittent fasting.
Speaker:She often skips or delays breakfast to balance hormones and maintain fitness.
Speaker:And right now with my age and my time of life, I am so thankful for
Speaker:intermittent fasting when it comes to the balancing hormones thing.
Speaker:It's, it's really been helping me out.
Speaker:So number 29, the Uber famous actress, it.
Speaker:Demi Moore has adopted intermittent and extended fasting as part of
Speaker:her detox and reset routines.
Speaker:Number 30.
Speaker:Ben Affleck reportedly practiced intermittent fasting for his Batman
Speaker:transformation and he pairs fasting with intense workouts for muscle definition.
Speaker:Next up is Liv Tyler, famous actress who, like Beyonce used
Speaker:intermittent fasting and, uh, time restricted eating in conjunction
Speaker:with fitness regimens to slim down.
Speaker:After her pregnancies.
Speaker:Number 32 is Dr. Jason Fung, renowned physician and fasting advocate.
Speaker:And although he isn't considered a star or a celebrity in the
Speaker:traditional sense, he is in my opinion.
Speaker:The fasting guru, the go-to guy for fasting.
Speaker:He's known for practicing and teaching all about intermittent fasting, and often
Speaker:does 24 hour and extended period fast.
Speaker:He is a Canadian nephrologist.
Speaker:Honestly, I'm not super sure what a nephrologist is, but he's the leading
Speaker:expert in metabolic health, best known for promoting intermittent
Speaker:fasting and low carb diets as effective treatments for obesity.
Speaker:Type two diabetes, like we mentioned Halle Berry has and other metabolic disorders.
Speaker:He um, he is a New York Times bestselling author of influential
Speaker:books like the Obesity Code, the Diabetes Code, and the Complete
Speaker:Guide to Fasting, which have helped.
Speaker:Redefine approaches to weight loss and disease reversal
Speaker:through therapeutic fasting.
Speaker:Dr. Fung is the deal.
Speaker:Um, he also co-founded the Fasting Method, a program designed to support people
Speaker:in managing their health conditions naturally, um, via lifestyle changes
Speaker:focused on fasting and nutrition.
Speaker:And in my opinion, Dr. Fung is just as famous or as important
Speaker:as anybody on this list.
Speaker:Um, his book, the Obesity Code, is incredible.
Speaker:If you haven't read it and you're serious about intermittent fasting.
Speaker:It is a must read.
Speaker:I will leave the link to this incredible book in the show notes below.
Speaker:It has helped me tremendously.
Speaker:Alright, we have reached number 33.
Speaker:On our list today, and please note that I could have gone on and on and on and had
Speaker:a much longer list because there are a lot of well-known people who have come to
Speaker:love the intermittent fasting lifestyle.
Speaker:But I try to keep these episodes under 30 minutes when I can.
Speaker:So.
Speaker:Our last celebrity Faster is the beautiful Jenny McCarthy.
Speaker:And I have to admit that I am a bit of a fan girl when it comes to Jenny McCarthy.
Speaker:Uh, Jenny McCarthy is a famous actress, but I first became a fan back in
Speaker:the nineties when she hosted the, it was kind of like the first like.
Speaker:Real fun dating show, um, that I remember watching singled out, uh, on MTV.
Speaker:I love that show and so did my husband.
Speaker:Uh, we were just dating at the time.
Speaker:But anyways, uh, Jenny has reported that intermittent fasting has helped
Speaker:her to, um, regulate her metabolism and support weight management.
Speaker:And back about two and a half years ago when I was just starting my TikTok
Speaker:account and all of this fasting stuff, I was trying to get it out in the world.
Speaker:I was putting all of my fasting videos on TikTok.
Speaker:I had no idea what I was doing.
Speaker:I still don't.
Speaker:Think I know what I'm doing, but I just do it anyways.
Speaker:Um, I put a quick little 42nd before and after intermittent
Speaker:fasting plus oh mad, plus low carb eating video as like my weight loss
Speaker:trifecta video, um, on TikTok and.
Speaker:It was like February of 2023, I think, and it kind of blew up.
Speaker:And in just a couple days, uh, it was, it was crazy.
Speaker:So, and Jenny McCarthy commented on it, that video, she started following me
Speaker:and I just totally geeked out about it.
Speaker:Actually, I think my husband was even more excited about it, um, than I was.
Speaker:She's gorgeous and he's always.
Speaker:Been a fan from way back when we used to watch Singled out together.
Speaker:Anyways, it was just a cool thing and I wanted to make sure
Speaker:that I added her to our list.
Speaker:So that brings us to the end of our Fasting with the Stars list for today.
Speaker:I love hearing about how all different people from all different
Speaker:walks of life, famous or not.
Speaker:How they do fasting and how they make it work for them.
