little bit in this winter wonderland or what?

>> RB: But it is a little nippley out, huh?

>> Jonathan: It's nipply. It's. It's treacherous out there.

Yeah, I mean, you know, it's, uh. It feels good,

though, because if this were March, you kind of

would be miserable. I mean, you'd be borderline

depressed. I mean, the fact that it's before

Christmas, you know, we're kind of coping with it,

but. Yeah, it's not good, dude. It's not good.

>> RB: I mean, we were in the Windy City last week, bud,

and it wasn't too bad.

>> Jonathan: It wasn't. I was. I liked it. I tell you what,

man. You and I had a nice, posh lunch, and we got

this, um. I still can't believe we ate that bowl

of. I don't know what it was. Three different

types of tuna with salmon. And, I mean, it's all

raw.

>> RB: It sounded like.

>> Jonathan: And, um, I'm.

>> RB: It sounded better than it was.

>> Jonathan: And they didn't even like. It wasn't like a poke

bowl. It was just like.

>> RB: It was nothing near that. That's what I thought.

>> Jonathan: And you're just eating this raw fish?

>> RB: I mean, I think at 9 o' clock that night, you

said, I feel like they're still swimming in my

stomach.

>> Jonathan: They were absolutely swimming in my stomach,

buddy. But, uh, yeah. Yeah, that was fun, man. We,

uh, got to spend a little. I fell in love in

Chicago, dude. I fell in love with the antidote,

the Betonardi antidote.

>> RB: Did you get it?

>> Jonathan: I did not get it yet.

>> RB: Has he texted you yet?

>> Jonathan: No, I have not talked to Ryan yet about it, but

there's probably $700 putter.

>> RB: They'll find somebody else that wants it right

then and there.

>> Jonathan: Well, you know, it's your fault. You take me back

to the bougie room at Bettinardi through the door

that doesn't even look like a door. And then

you're into this world of just like, dude, it's

sick.

>> RB: It's sick, dude. Was it the hard face or the soft

face?

>> Jonathan: It was hard.

>> RB: All right, so it got a little bounce on it, and it

came off a, uh, putter face. How you wanted it.

>> Jonathan: It came out great, you know, Isn't.

>> RB: That incredible, though, that what they can do?

Like, okay, we got this little room. We walk you

into this room, and there's, uh, rack full of

putters, $1,800 and up. But if you don't like

that, let me take you into the next room.

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

>> RB: Where you can design everything. What grip, what

shaft you want, A welded neck, what kind of neck

you want, what kind of face do you want, what kind

of painting do you want, what kind of logos do you

want? And you do it all in that one little room.

And it is, it is really cool.

>> Jonathan: It's so cool.

>> RB: It's like designing a suit, bud. It is.

>> Jonathan: And I, and I love doing that. And the putters, you

need to have the good putter, though. There's no

doubt about it. Did you see this past weekend at

the Q school down in Florida, what happened to the

one cat? I can't. What's his last name? Cole Kohli

or something like that. I mean, he was in, he was

in the mix, dude. He was like about to get, uh.

>> RB: He played golf, the University of Virginia. And I

also saw, um, uh, there was another big name up

there that he did not play well in the last day.

He missed his tour card, Spencer Levine.

>> Jonathan: Oh, yes.

>> RB: Spencer Levine missed it. And he did not have a

great finishing round. And, um, he's on the Korn

Ferry Tour, boys.

>> Jonathan: Yeah, which he had. There's the other guy, last

name Toasty, which he's like, apparently has a

terrible temperament, which is kind of awesome.

Like he just goes off, snaps a club. But anyways,

this guy just freaking was in the, in the woods

and he just kind of moved his ball by accident and

got stroked. And then what happened? Yeah, cost

him. And then the next hole, he blew his tee shot

way right into the water. Double done. He was

done.

>> RB: Well, do you remember? He might be too young to

remember this, but, um. Do you remember in tour

school, like 15, 16 years ago, probably a guy had

a like three foot putt and it hit in the back of

the hole and bounced out and I customist PGA Tour

card. It hit the back of like the little brim on

the cup.

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

>> RB: And it bounced back up.

>> Jonathan: Oh, you, uh, think about that. You grind your

whole life again.

>> RB: If that ever happened to me.

>> Jonathan: No, you probably wouldn't. In fact, you just asked

the question the other day. If I've anyone's ever

seen you mad m on the golf course. If you've

actually lost your temperament and you really

haven't, you really don't. I mean, every now and

then you don't pay attention to what's going on.

>> RB: But yeah, that's different though. That's adhd.

>> Jonathan: I saw Jason Day playing in the, um, Grand Thornton

invitation, which our boy IP was down. He was

sending videos from the concert. He was in a mix,

but Jason Day was playing with, uh, I forget the

chick's name, but he had, he had a two and a half.

You talk about small short putts. He had a two and

a half footer, dude, it was like that. And he went

up to putt it and he freaking pulled that. Yeah.

Or pushed the hell out of it, Whipped it around

the cup.

>> RB: I love it. That's good. It's good for the soul.

>> Jonathan: Tell you what, man, we had, we had a good time.

>> RB: Yeah, I was gonna say, I'll tell you what's good

for the soul is what we did last week.

>> Jonathan: Gotta hit the Sims.

>> RB: Well, we got to lunch, texted our boy, boy, Taylor

Kenny, who's today's guest, and said, uh, you

know, looking forward to seeing you. And he said,

you got to hit the Sims. Well, in my mind I'm

like, oh God, he's at a simulator and we're never

going to find this guy in Chicago. So we show up

to be Nardi, like 2:15 and he's grinding away in

the simulator at Betnardi. No, other than Taylor

Kenny, he was in there. And you know, dude, we, we

actually went to a simulator.

>> Jonathan: We did go to a sim.

>> RB: So, you know, we had a phenomenal interview with

Taylor, which you guys are going to hear here

shortly. But then we went out to dinner and the

boot that, that you guys have been seeing, the

Boot is kind of has its own life. And it made it

to Chicago. Um, took it to dinner, surprised, uh,

a couple of the New York Rangers with the Boot,

um, per their request. And, um, we had a great

dinner. And at Maple and Ash, we, we left and the

boot was on its way, right to its new home, we

thought. We got a text the next day from Mr. Vince

Trocheck, and he left the boot in a 10 minute Uber

ride to his hotel, which then he said he was

panicking. He called the guy, the driver, numerous

times, never answered, called Uber. They wouldn't

do anything to help him. Guy finally gets a hold

of him, tells him, I'll give you a good deal.

Troach ends up paying money to get the boot back,

but the guy wanted to deliver it at night. Problem

is, at night is the hockey game. So long story

short, the boot is back. But man, if this boot

could talk, it's probably thinking, what the hell?

Why'd you just leave me in an Uber?

>> Jonathan: That right, like you said, the boot has a life of

its own, man. And it was just. It was just rolling

around Chicago. And, um. How many other people got

picked up in that Uber that saw the boot?

>> RB: Why is this cowboy boot in here?

>> Jonathan: The boot made all kind of friends that night. It

was having the best night of its life. It's like,

I'm out of the dungeon. I'm in the mix, riding

around. I can't believe any did that. But.

>> RB: So we went to, um. After dinner. After we had

dinner, we get in TK's car, and, you know,

obviously, Chicago is a massive spot. I can't tell

you how many restaurants are probably there.

10,000 restaurants. Gotta be okay. He's driving,

he's weaving in between. And I'm thinking to

myself, does TK know where we're even going? And

he shows up to this restaurant, and I said, I've

been here. He said, this is my best friend. I

said, well, I've ate here. I sat at that table

right there before a Chicago Bulls game last year

with Brandon. I said, yeah, they got a great

sausage and pepper dish. He said, you did eat

here. So naturally, we went in, we got some wine,

we got some cake. And where does he want to take

us? To the simulators. So we show up to the

simulators with two bottles of wine, two pieces of

cake. And I said, tk, how are we gonna open these

bottles of wine, but we don't have a key lock, A

one key. Well, tk, uh, in TK fashion, Never doubt

the man. Never doubt a firefighter.

>> Jonathan: Resourceful.

>> RB: He got the cork pushed into the bottle, and I was

drinking out of that.

>> Jonathan: Well, in hindsight, when we walked into that

Italian restaurant, I saw they had Peroni, like,

in bottles. Why did we not just get four bottles

of Peroni and take it to the sim? I mean, you, um,

had this bottle of wine. I wasn't even drinking

any of it because I wasn't about to drink after

you've been sucking down the bottle.

>> RB: And I'll tell you, that simulator spot was a lot

of fun, too. It was. And I had TK right where I

want him. Naturally. Always got a gamble with him

a little bit. He, like, sits. Get. He gets to a

certain point, right? And he's like, all right,

you ready? You want 20 bucks? Number seven.

Piner's number two. I said, sure. So win the hole

with a birdie, number eight. Win the hole with an

eagle par five. He was hacking around the woods.

So now I'm up 40 bucks. Go to nine, par three on

piners, number two. Naturally, TK says double or

nothing, and I knew it was gonna happen. He

finally won the hole, and then guess what? No

money's exchanged.

>> Jonathan: Wow. You know, that's. That's par for the course.

Because I feel like you're always in these betting

matches with him, and there's always the press at

the end. It's just. I mean, you shot three under.

Uh, for what it's worth, no putting.

>> RB: Good. I'll tell you what, though. Those Miura

irons he has.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Nice butter. I'll tell you what's not butter

that out to end on my swing.

>> RB: Yeah.

>> Jonathan: In the sim. I mean, it's like. It's like eight out

the end. Yeah. He was in the trees a little bit.

That one scene on that course. We ended up playing

nine holes.

>> Jonathan: It was.

>> Jonathan: It was awesome.

>> RB: I think he came out of the simulator with a tree

branch stuck out of his pocket. But nonetheless,

dude, he came out. It didn't matter what he shot.

Didn't matter what I shot. We. No money was

exchanged.

>> Jonathan: I could play golf with you two. TK could be on any

one of our golf trips. I would play golf with him

every day because he loves the game.

>> RB: He just loves.

>> Jonathan: He just loves the game. And I can get down with

that. I can absolutely love that golf.

>> RB: And he's a good time. He's chill, just a great

human being. And, ah, we're lucky that our paths

have crossed with him. And I don't know if you

guys have seen, but ever since we. We put in a

video reel out of him, I TK I didn't know that

there were this many, like, spoof fan clubs of

yours. Insane.

>> Jonathan: Oh, my God.

>> RB: Uh, video. I don't know how they got the video of

Ryan in the rain hitting golf balls.

>> Jonathan: Uh, that's what I mean.

>> RB: They stole it from your Instagram page, buddy.

>> Jonathan: People, they're coming on to the Instagram page

and taking videos and repost them on these club

sites, these fan sites. It's. It's absolutely

insane. The hawkers out there.

>> RB: Yeah.

>> Jonathan: Honestly.

>> RB: Well, I guess we should give them what they want,

though.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. I think it's about damn time we do, man.

It's. It's always better in person. It was always

better in person.

>> RB: So this is, uh. This is well worth the wait, I

think.

>> Jonathan: I agree. So let's turn it on over here to the real

We've Been chasing for well over a year, and we're

here in Oakbrook, Illinois, at Betnardi Studios,

which is incredible. But our guest today, Taylor

Kenney, joined us here on Chasing Birdies. And,

man, we are so appreciative of you carving out

some of your time. We know you're busy, but, you

know, our friendship, man, it runs deep, and we

just want to.

>> Jonathan: We.

>> Jonathan: We want this.

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I think it's been in the works for a little

bit. Um, uh, backstory. I met Ryan here. He hosted

me on a road trip. I was driving from Philly to

Chicago, I think, and stopped by, playing

different courses and end up at Pikewood. I was

down at Pete Dye, I think.

>> Jonathan: That's right. You were.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Uh, gracious host, uh, because I know it's

a, uh, stab in the dark, but I got there not

knowing too much, and that was one of the cooler

experiences I've had golfing.

>> Jonathan: So.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Thank you.

>> Jonathan: And I remember. Well, you're welcome. And you're

welcome back anytime. But I had a great time. But

I remember vividly we made the turn, and we were

in no rush because it was just the two of us.

>> RB: I can't imagine either one of you.

>> Jonathan: Were in a rush. TK Sat down, and they asked, what

do you. You know, if you want something at the

turn? And he said, I'll take a dog. So we sat

there, we had hot dogs, sat at the bar, yucked it

up for a little bit, and then we went on our way.

>> RB: Yeah, a fabulous.

>> Jonathan: This guy is the chillest dude. Yeah, it's a great

walk.

>> RB: And you have ties to Morgantown. Uh, West

Virginia.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Almost an alum. I went. Graduated in 2000.

Uh, went to WVU till 2002. So. Till my junior

year. So I. I think I. Uh. My major was maybe

business or something generic. Uh, and I knew I

wanted to do something on my own. I didn't want to

work for anybody. I didn't want to look at a

clock. And I took theater as an elective my

sophomore year, and I remember going up to the

professor, and I was like, hey, let me catch your

ear. Can we grab a bite, a cup of coffee or

something outside of class? And I'm just, like,

crazy interested. And he said no. He said no.

Yeah. And I just remember reading and doing, uh,

my own thing, and then. Well, I knew I didn't want

to. I don't know. I didn't want to languish, I

guess, and just go through the motions of school.

I dropped out, and then I saved up Money. I moved

to Hawaii for a year, uh, and bummed it around

there, and that was like my own education. Uh, and

then went back to Pennsylvania, saved a couple

bucks and moved to la and then started hitting the

bricks.

>> RB: So you, you do hail.

>> Jonathan: What a story.

>> RB: Lancaster.

>> Jonathan: I do Lancaster.

>> RB: Link Lancaster if you're not from Lancaster.

>> Jonathan: Lancaster if you're from Lancaster.

>> RB: Okay. How did, so did you end up in Morgantown?

Because of their theater program?

>> Jonathan: No, no, it was, uh, I didn't get into, uh. What is

it like?

>> Jonathan: No, he was, I think I applied.

>> Jonathan: To Arizona State, uh, Clemson and South Carolina,

and I got into wvu. So it was a girl I went to

school with, her brother was going there and we

went for a football game. And so that was my only

great experience. That was my only connection.

But, uh, I loved it. I loved it.

>> Jonathan: Oh, I think that's hilarious that you.

>> Jonathan: Went to the Cooper's Rock.

>> Jonathan: Oh, yeah.

>> Jonathan: Cheat Lake, uh, right there, that's where I live.

I, I, I would go down there and just, there's old

water towers that go climb at night, just sit and

chill in cemeteries. Like I have all kinds of

nooks in that town.

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I love it, dude.

>> RB: So you moved to Hawaii for a year, as you said,

then you moved to la. What was that experience

like for you, coming from small town, Pennsylvania

to Morgantown, West Virginia, then, then to la,

Big city, bright lights.

>> Jonathan: Uh, I think, I think I, I kept my ambitions close

to the vest. I think it would have been like

saying I wanted to be an astronaut. I grew up a

bunch of brothers, single mom, and, and she always

erred on, uh, the pragmatic side. It's like

everything's, ah, uh, that's not going to work

out. So, you know, I just kind of did my own

thing.

>> Jonathan: Taylor, why would you do that?

>> Jonathan: Yeah, and that's not going to work, you know. Took

a minute. But I remember I, I, I booked my first

kind of big gig relatively quick. Well, my first

paying job was in a Foo Fighters video. But I

showed up the day of the shoot. I didn't have a

car and in la, and that's kind of, you know, it's,

it's terrible. But I remember taking the, like the

subway from North Hollywood to Hollywood and then

got a cab for like 10, 10 miles and then walked

the rest. So I showed up crazy, sunburnt. And the

director's like, what the hell are you doing? I

can't, I can't shoot you like.

>> RB: The raccoon, he's just like, you're, you're

You're.

>> Jonathan: You're.

>> RB: You're just.

>> Jonathan: You're blown out. You're too dark.

>> RB: What do you do?

>> Jonathan: So my finger made the cut, but I still have the. I

still have the. The cash, uh, from that first job,

and my brother framed it, and it's in my place in

Lancaster. But, uh, I did a show.

>> RB: So they paid you cash, and then you still have

that cash from that paid gig.

>> Jonathan: First paying job in Hollywood.

>> RB: Did you get to fighters or did you get them to

sign it?

>> Jonathan: No, I. And I. No, I. It wasn't.

>> RB: It was just.

>> Jonathan: It wasn't with the. The band. It was, like, tied

into a story. But I met, uh, Dave Grohl.

>> Jonathan: That's what I was gonna ask you if you met Dave.

>> Jonathan: Dave Grohl at the Grammys. And we were. We were.

We were hanging with, like, R2D2, like, backstage

or something. But I didn't. I didn't bring up the

story.

>> Jonathan: You should have.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. And he's a cool guy. He's so.

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

>> RB: That's wild.

>> Jonathan: Yeah, he's one of the best.

>> RB: So your fingers in the Foo Fighters video?

>> Jonathan: My finger is in the Foo Fighters video.

>> RB: Like, if we showed that video, you'd be like,

there.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Um, best. Best of you or best of me? That

song.

>> Jonathan: Oh, that's Starting Line I'm thinking of.

>> Jonathan: But.

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I know that song. What you mean? Yeah,

didn't, um, you do construction? Mess around with

that, too.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. My buddy, uh, my. One of my best buddies

growing up, his dad was a subcontractor. So we.

We'd go on these road trips up and down the east

coast doing. Renovating restaurants. We do, like,

drop ceilings, tiles, and bars, and it was like

being in a band. But we didn't play music. It was

just because you'd work all night, and we'd go,

like, in North Carolina, Boston, and we're riding

in the back of, like, a box truck, like, drinking

Budweiser the whole time. So we would go renovate

these restaurants. Uh, and back then, I mean, 20

bucks an hour under the table, that was. We were

making good money, cash money. I like seeing my

work and working with my hands. And then, I don't

know, the acting thing just. Well, I love it. You

know, I love storytelling and, uh, like,

everything about it. I just. I guess, you know,

100 years ago, I would have joined the circus.

Yeah. But this is, like, the closest thing I'll

come to a 9 to 5. So I've been doing the gig, I've

been doing now for this is season 14, which is

Chicago Fire.

>> RB: This is the longest running show on TV right now.

Right.

>> Jonathan: Or, uh, most watched it maybe on NBC, uh, Law &

Order, SVU. I remember going to upfronts in New

York when we started, so season one or two, and

running into Mariska, who I've always had a crush

on, and I always, like, jump at the chances, like

with Dick, uh, Wolf or whoever. I'm like, write a

storyline of us together, like. And she came out,

her and Ice Tea came out, and, uh, they've done

some episodes in Chicago for a crossover, what

have you. But I remember running into her in New

York and It was season 14. They're season 14 or

15. And just being like, that's rarefied air.

That's crazy. And now you're living in wild. It's

just.

>> RB: Wild. So, you know, your first pay gig with the

Foo Fighters, which your finger got in. But, um,

from there, where did it go, like, was your

mindset, I'm going to be an actor and I'm going to

make this.

>> Jonathan: Happen. Yeah. Like.

>> RB: Um. Because a lot of that is the right place, the

right time.

>> Jonathan: Too. Yeah, it's a. It's. You have to have a, like

a blind optimism and, uh, like a tenacity. Like,

if you have a plan B, it won't work. And that's

true. And if you listen to anybody else, it won't

work. So it's like, anytime, like, if someone came

up to me for advice, I'd say, don't do it. And if

you listen to me, you never. You don't have a

chance anyway. So you have to be, uh, pretty

bullheaded. But I. I took my lumps. I mean, I was.

I did a show in San Diego, like 50 episodes. It

was like a little telenovela adapted soap. I

played Bo Derek's son, and it was. It was like

acting boot camp. I was like 24 or something and

making decent money. This is my first time with

this. And, you know, I'm acting 12 hours a day,

six days a week, and I'm getting. I'm get done.

And it's just what you've been doing. And so I'm

thinking, oh, I'll get done with this, and the

phone's gonna be ringing off the hook and nothing.

And then I go audition for something. And so

that's a different skill set. So right from, you

know, doing your thing. And then there was a

writers strike, uh, 2007, 8. So I went a good

year, maybe two years without working, and. And I

got the shits of la. So I. I moved. I stayed down

in San Diego. I'd surfing and I'd ride my bike up

to LA for auditions and whatever. But, yeah, I

started waiting tables again down at, uh, in

Gaslamp in San Diego. So it's like, it's humbling.

Like, soon it's like, hey, you want another soda?

Or something like that. They're like, aren't you

the guy from. I was like, yeah, I'm broke. Y. And,

well, Drew, uh, dried.

>> RB: Up. So do you want that.

>> Jonathan: Soda? But it was. It was good. And then it's just,

you know, I got back into theater. A, uh, couple

little companies, and you get up on stage and, you

know, you. You go, you grind, you grind, you

grind. And, you know, when the opportunity

presents yourself and you're ready, it's like.

>> Jonathan: You know, yeah, you show.

>> RB: Up. It's a lot of similarities, though, uh, to,

like, the PGA Tour, right? Like, uh, that's kind

of. You're, um. When you're standing in front of

everybody and you're having to give your best

performance, that they pick you. It's like golf,

right? And winning a major. You've prepared for

this your whole life. You've got to capitalize

when you have those.

>> Jonathan: Opportunities. I can't imagine. Uh, I've been to a

few, I don't know, PGA events. One in, um. What's

the one they have? Riviera in.

>> Jonathan: La. Yeah. US.

>> Jonathan: Wave.

>> RB: Where? The Genesis.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. And it's just, I don't know, I guess the

same. You have to be so locked in mentally. And I

know coming up, how many people are vying for,

whether it's like, corn fairy spots or what have

you, and that, that. That degree of who's making

it, getting a card and who isn't, uh, that's.

>> Jonathan: Fascinating. And everyone's trying, and there's

wild thousands of people to.

>> RB: Try. But I love the people that watch golf, and

they're like, how could he miss that putt? I'm

like, what? How can he miss that putt? You're

sitting on your couch. Okay, number one. Number

two. I've watched you putt in front of three other

people. You wouldn't be able to take the putter

back in that situation, let alone hit the ball. So

I don't think any of us can ever imagine how much

pressure those guys feel if they're trying to win

for the first time. Like, if. If you actually look

back on Jack Nicklaus, you look back on Tiger

woods, think about how many wins they had and how

locked in they Were. That's pretty.

>> Jonathan: Insane. Yeah, I.

>> RB: Tiger.

>> Jonathan: Definitely. Yeah. I think it's a, uh. I. I don't

know. It's like you block a momentum thing, but it

would have to be. It's like when you, like,

there's a lot of people, like, and let's say in

acting classes or what have you, where you get

comfortable in your surrounding and you could be

great in like a scene study thing or something

like that, but you take someone out of their

element and it's. They can't. You can't perform.

And that's. That's the difference between who's

gonna get great, do it, and who's not. And the

same thing. It's like when you guys have a great

round, then you find something in your swing that

just, like, is working. Like, you. You project

future outcomes to things that haven't happened.

You're like, okay, well, if I had that swing, I'd

win the member. Guest. If I had that swing, you

know, I could be doing this. It's like, that's not

how it works. Yeah. So the guys.

>> RB: That.

>> Jonathan: Are. The guys that are on tour doing that, like,

uh, well, hats off to the mental fortitude to

finish. It's.

>> Jonathan: Crazy. You always hear about people saying, his

game travels. His game travels. How many guys, you

know that you play with them at their course, and

they know every in, in and out of that course,

they shoot their game. They, you know, whatever.

And then you take them on a golf trip somewhere

and they're just flustered because they're like,

they can't. Because they're out. Out of their

element a little.

>> RB: Bit. We had a kid on our college golf team, he

would shoot 66, 67, every qualifier to get to the

event, and then he'd shoot 85.

>> Jonathan: 88. That's what I mean, that in.

>> RB: Every tournament round, you're like, what in the.

>> Jonathan: Hell? Dude, That's. You got. I remember playing,

uh. Where'd we.

>> RB: Go?

>> Jonathan: Peachtree. Oh.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Is it Peachtree? Yeah. I couldn't find a

swing there, but. And the same. It's like, not the

club. There's so many different things going on,

and it's like you just want it to end so you can

go, like, fix something, like, at the range or

what have you. But like, that's. That's the same.

It's like, uh, a. It's like a little. Little.

>> RB: Breakdown. But you ever have those days, though,

on set, like, where you're like, having such a bad

day that you're just like, uh, I need to get Away

from this for the day.

>> Jonathan: Or. Yeah. Uh, what can you do when.

>> RB: You have a bad day on set? You go stand in front

of a mirror and say you're.

>> Jonathan: Lying. You know, the, the thing with, with that is

you can, it's just like a, I don't know, it's an

energy. You can feel it if, if somebody's

unprepared or if something keeps dropping a line

or something like that. It's like I've been doing

it for so long that it, I, I don't, I don't get in

the weeds like that. I can't say I never have. Uh,

but I, if somebody does, it's, it's what, because

you have, you know, uh, 100 people saying, doing,

uh, a job, everybody's working. And so you do your

thing and everything goes, you know, expected,

then fine. But you mess up once, okay. Then you

mess up twice, then, then the boom operator,

you're standing there, then he's looking at you,

then you have the whole people looking at you.

Then you take in, well, how many millions of

people are watching this? Then you're, then you're

fucked up, right? Then you can't, it's like done.

Yeah, the person's not there. Like they're

somewhere.

>> Jonathan: Else. Yeah, they're, they're, they're spaced.

>> Jonathan: Out. So. Yeah, like you kind of have to be locked.

>> RB: In. Yeah, but that's, yeah, but what's the same

back to.

>> Jonathan: Golf. Like, but I'm just saying though, like that

mental aspect of how important it is in, in

obviously in acting, but with golf in general,

because you could take someone that can play

wherever they play and then you just take them out

of their element a little bit and it's more for,

um, you know, it's probably the higher

handicappers really, you.

>> Jonathan: Know. Yeah, I would imagine like some like.

>> RB: Auditioning. Uh.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Is, is, is, is a, is mind numbing. You show

up, you, you work for a day or how long, however

much long you've had the material. You go in,

you're going to read for casting, uh, director,

director. And then you see 40 dudes that maybe

look just like you or what have you or someone in

the sign in sheet signed like, you know, like Toby

Maguire. You're like, wow. They just rouse you.

You go in, you can have really bad reads and it

should be a cold read. Everyone auditions is

different. But I always like for scene study and

what have you. If I'm in front of people, it's

like, I'll, uh, have it. And if I like I won't

question before I go up. And so you have to get

there. So I think that translates in that you have

to know. You have to be confident with the. The

tools that you bring what you have to the thing.

And then if. If you check it and you're like, I'm

just gonna. I'm gonna. I'm gonna paint a picture.

Like, uh, you can either buy the painting or. Or

not. But I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna let you tell

me what colors to use. And so that always helped

me, like, auditioning, because it's like, you

can't appease everybody. So it's like, well, this

is my take on.

>> RB: It. This.

>> Jonathan: Is. I drop a line, what have you. But, um, I'm.

This is the character that I see, like, if 100

kids walk through the door trying to. Trying to

audition for Huckleberry Finn, and they're nailing

it, you know, they're like, oh, that kid's great,

and that kid's great. But they're just. They don't

have that. Like, that, you know, that one little

yeah factor. So when a kid walks through and he

trips, he's like, oh, sorry. I don't know. I'm a

little late, you know. You know, I'm, um. My dad's

drunk. I don't know. I just barely get, like,

that's him. Yeah, it's kind of like that. So it's

like, you see it and, you know what you see. I

don't know how that translates to, like, the best

golfing. But.

>> RB: Your. Your first audition, how did it all happen

with Chicago Fire? And you, like, did they reach

out to you for an audition? Did your agency reach

out to them? How did that all transpire? Because I

think a lot of people that listen to the show have

heard, you know, they now know how to write a

country music song, and they know what goes into

get to that song. Yeah, they don't know what it

takes to get to the TV.

>> Jonathan: Set. Uh, it's. It's like years, like, I always

say, like, people. And I was at the place where I

didn't have. It's not like I'm resting on my

laurels. There wasn't any nepotism. I didn't have,

you know, like, come from money or famous parents.

So it was like, uh, I'm throwing things against

the wall and. And what? Sticks. Sticks. So it

wasn't like, I. I only was auditioning for

television. I only auditioned for film. I only

auditioned, you know, theater, commercial, what

have you. I was Just going.

>> Jonathan: For. For whatever.

>> Jonathan: Was. I would get. And I had done a pilot the last

year, um, for NBC with Don Johnson that didn't get

picked up. And so it's another year for television

anyway. And I think I booked. No, I was

auditioning, or maybe I had booked Zero Dark

Thirty. The film. Yeah, yeah. But it was yet to

shoot. And I came from. I booked Shameless, and I

was doing an arc, Shameless. And I, uh, think John

Pabsidera, the casting director, I auditioned for

him a few times and it was like, there's stepping

stones. And I was, like, really excited to get it.

So it kind of ups your confidence. And I had

another audition for a casting director that I had

a bad read for, like, months ago. And I was like,

I'm gonna dial this in. And I did. And it was on

the heels of that. So then I go in for Chicago

Fire, not knowing too much other than it was NBC

and Dick Wolf, which is huge. And I read with the

creators, Michael, uh, Brandt, Der Cos. And I

just. I had a really good read. I felt. I felt

freed up. And I'm like, well, I'll just do my

thing. And then I get a call back and then they

had me chemistry, uh, read with other.

>> RB: Actors. So chemistry reads basically. Like Ryan

and I would be sitting here and we just started

that. We're feeding off of one another type thing.

>> Jonathan: Right? Yeah. Like, we'll bring to, like, for the.

Another character. So it was like my character and

then, uh, the Casey character. So they bring in a

bunch of people to read for Casey. So. And then

see how they feel.

>> Jonathan: How they get vibe with.

>> Jonathan: The. I hadn't booked it yet, but then I remember.

I remember booking.

>> RB: It. That.

>> Jonathan: Was. That was a pretty. That was pretty. That was

pretty.

>> Jonathan: Amazing.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. But I remember shooting a pilot in Chicago

in March of 2012 and then filming Zero Dark Thirty

in Jordan and then coming back. And I remember I

didn't have a place to stay. What have you. And

other. Other cast. Uh, cast members that already

got, like, leases for an apartment or what have

you. And I was walking up Michigan Avenue. I was

like, I should get something. I was like, I might

be here for a minute because I hadn't. The longest

stretch, I was in San Francisco. I did a. A show

there for a year. Got canceled pilot, got canceled

arcs, they come and go. So it was, you know, it

just happened.

>> Jonathan: Early. Good. Uh, no, I was just going to say early

on. I know we had talked about this, but I don't

know at what point in your Career. This was. But

you filmed the movie early on with Cameron Diaz.

Yeah, it was that, that was, uh, pretty early on

in your.

>> Jonathan: Career. That was, I mean, that had a. After season

two or three. I remember because, uh, I really

wanted to work with the director. It was Nick

Cassavetes. And um, so I'd get the material I was

working in here in Chicago, and then I'd get

material for the film and I put myself on tape,

send it in, and I booked it off of a tape, like a

home tape, which is kind of rare, but. Yeah. And

then that was, you know, you never know. Like,

I've done projects where, like I remember, uh,

doing a project with, uh, Bill Murray, uh, Rock

the Kasbah in Morocco. And the script is amazing.

It was, it was, it was, it was, it was ridiculous.

It was ridiculous. Uh, yeah. And Kate Hudson,

Bruce Willis. It was like a, it was, that was,

that was a. But it didn't, it didn't do well in

the, in the box.

>> RB: Office.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. I guess. I think Omari got into a thing with

one of the producers and he's like, I'm not doing

anything press or promo, something weird. But it

was this. On paper, it was like one of the better

scripts I'd seen. And so you don't know. You can't

like, you know, put all your eggs into one thing

and the other woman was, uh, had director, and you

just don't know what it's gonna do. And then I

still, there's people that I run into all the time

that still like, that's my favorite movie. I'm

like, oh, that's okay. Cool. But she was amazing.

And that was, that was one of the, the cooler

projects. Ah.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. That's knockout to work with Bill.

>> RB: Murray. I mean, come.

>> Jonathan: On.

>> RB: Yeah. You know, there, the, the Bill Murray in

Bash. I've told this story numerous times before.

Um, my man, never saw Caddyshack really for up

until what, you're 39? Turn, you're turning 40

next year, probably about four years ago, you

finally watched it for the first.

>> Jonathan: Time. That's.

>> Jonathan: True. Within the last four years, like.

>> RB: Full on golfer, watched Caddyshack and all time.

>> Jonathan: Great. Now when you go to like the, like you get,

go to the turn, you go up and I want a hot dog.

No, I want some chips. I want a.

>> RB: Hamburger. I'm.

>> Jonathan: Spalding. See, I don't even know the, the.

>> Jonathan: Names. You'll have nothing in.

>> RB: Like. You'll have nothing in.

>> Jonathan: Like.

>> Jonathan: It. I wish I could contribute. Yeah, I, I, I know.

I just I never saw.

>> RB: It. Mr. Havin.

>> Jonathan: Camp. Now, I. Now I. I've seen it now, but it's a

great.

>> Jonathan: Movie. Yeah, but I mean, it's.

>> RB: Like. So as a golfer, you quote, it's at least

quarter once.

>> Jonathan: Around. Of course, I think the. One of the.

There's the course where they filmed.

>> RB: That. Yeah, it's Green Oaks in, uh.

>> Jonathan: Miami. It. I played it. I played it. Uh, it's. No,

it's not Green Oaks. It's, um. I think it's Royal

Oaks. It's outside of Miami, outside of Fort.

>> Jonathan: Lauderdale. Oh, uh, right.

>> Jonathan: On. Um, I played there with, uh. With John Philly.

With Bill Murray. I played with Bill Murray. It

was incredible. You know who's really close with

Bill Murray is John Ashworth. Him and Murray are,

like, super tight. John Ashworth obviously started

Ashworth and then link Soul and no, you know, we.

>> Jonathan: Known. But I grew up. My old man was the golfer,

and I caddied. I was. My birthday is in the middle

of July, so I'm. I don't know. Never got the. The

cupcakes, brownies stuff at school. But, like, you

had to be 13 to Caddy. And I was 12, uh, going

into the summer. I wanted a job. So I was 12 when

I started caddying. And I'd walk from my pop's

place to his club, uh, Bent Creek in Lancaster,

and I just wait around, I'd caddy, and that's. And

then I, uh, you know, shag balls after. And that's

kind of how I got into. To golf and following my

old man around. But he was a big. He played all

the time. And then I didn't really start playing

playing until till.

>> Jonathan: Later. Recently. No, not recently, but I bang.

>> Jonathan: Around. But, yeah, I didn't get a handicap until

maybe two, three. Three years.

>> Jonathan: Ago.

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

>> RB: Yeah. Bushwood Country Club. Yeah, the name of it.

In Caddyshack. But Grand.

>> Jonathan: Oaks. Grand Oaks, that's right. But I mean, you

got for. For just getting like, yeah, you can play

it.

>> Jonathan: Man. Yeah, I went down the rabbit. Love it. It's

hit or it's. It's like anything. It's. It's

evolving. But, uh, it was something that, uh. Man,

it occupies your mind in a healthy way, I found.

And there was a. There was a writer's strike

recently, and I had a bunch. This is after Covid.

And, um, now, uh, my brothers and I are members at

Lancaster Country Club because my mom has a place

nearby. So it only felt fitting that, you know, we

get a membership. And I was out of state and we

had the same. Same caddy master from when I.

>> Jonathan: Was. When you were there.

>> Jonathan: Early. Uh, and he was there, and I had whatever

membership, like, out of state, whatever. But I

exceeded the rounds in, like. Like 20 days or

something. I was like, I should get a. I should

get a full one. And I think I played, like, 85

rounds and. And, like, one the first summer I was.

>> Jonathan: There. That's so funny. Oh, he's. He's.

>> RB: Addicted. Oh.

>> Jonathan: He'S. Yeah, I love.

>> RB: It. He's addicted to.

>> Jonathan: Golf. Yeah. Um, we. My brothers and I came out to

Neme, so I had my brothers out and played and.

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Like. Yeah, you guys were. My brothers were

more than impressed. They're like, damn. They.

They. I was like, yeah, they're.

>> RB: Good. Some of that TK.

>> Jonathan: Money. Yeah. I don't care. I just thought I was.

The first time I met, uh. Ah, I'm like, 100. 100

bucks each.

>> Jonathan: Hole. Every.

>> Jonathan: Hole. And he's just. You know, he had two cigars

in his mouth, and, you know, he's asking one. He's

like, sure, I'll take.

>> Jonathan: It.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. I was like, I'll catch you next.

>> RB: Time. Meanwhile, I wanted to go have lunch with.

On you, and I couldn't.

>> Jonathan: So. Because you signed it, he's cut back on the.

>> Jonathan: Cigars. I have. Oh.

>> Jonathan: Nice. Which is good for his.

>> RB: Health. Yeah. But we should go to the cigar bar.

>> Jonathan: Tonight. We should. Yeah. There's a good one.

>> Jonathan: Downtown. Um, yeah. So, no, it's. It's all an

interesting story. I mean, with. With what you got

going on. I mean, so from a. From a standpoint of

acting in general, I mean, you gotta memorize

every damn word you're saying, every line, every

position you gotta be in. I mean, that seems so

damn.

>> Jonathan: Hard. It's.

>> Jonathan: Uh. And that's probably the easiest part for.

>> Jonathan: You. Exposition is tough. So if I'm rattling. If.

If the dialogue is something where you're rattling

off street names that you don't know. Ah, Numbers,

what have.

>> Jonathan: You.

>> Jonathan: Or. But for the most part, if it's character

stuff, like, you know, I have the face popped in

my head, so I can. And it's a muscle, so it's. I

could be, uh, in a makeup trailer and go look at

two pages of dialogue and have it pretty. A pretty

good idea of it. And then. And then it's. It's

like music. It's a banter. So it's like. And I've

been working with this, you know, uh, the. The

core group of the cast has been There. Yeah,

they're still. Yeah. So it's a, it's an easy

rapport where you're like, you know, you just hear

it, you read it, bing, bing, bing, and then, you

know, you shoot.

>> Jonathan: It. So let me ask you something from, from your

perspective in the position you're in now with

this show being as big as it is on NBC, if another

director of a show, let's say a Taylor Sheridan,

I'm, um, using an example called. And wanted to

cast you for one of his crazy shows he's coming

out with. Are you legally able to do that or can

you not do it because of contractual.

>> Jonathan: Obligations? So here with, uh, like the Other

Woman was a studio flick and I'm in, uh, I'm under

contract with NBC and that would be first

position. So they, so they have to get the dates.

The board right. So there was, there was a hiccup

there where the dates overlapped where the film

wanted me to be available after I was due to start

back up in Chicago for the next season, but I

wasn't going to be shooting. It was just in case

of reshoots or what have you. And so that can cost

you a job. Yeah, I remember getting in touch with

this. It worked out, but a lot of times it.

>> Jonathan: Doesn'T. It.

>> Jonathan: Doesn'T. So. And then they have like, you know, it

would be like a non compete.

>> Jonathan: Clause. Yeah.

>> Jonathan: Right. That's what I was. I have a buddy, uh,

White Shadow. DJ White Shadow. He's a good buddy.

And he was doing something for Thanksgiving on

like a float down downtown. He's like, you should

come up. I was like, yeah, I'll do it. And then he

ran it by one of the, uh, whoever is putting it on

producers. And they're like. He's like, yeah,

yeah, Taylor, uh, King, the Chicago Fire. They're

like, absolutely not. Because it was for. Because

it was abc. Oh. So they didn't even want me there

around. Yeah, that's how wild that.

>> Jonathan: Is. Damn. Yeah, that's.

>> RB: Crazy. It's like you're. You're theirs. Which is

great because it's a great show. And it's not.

It's not saying that in a negative way. But that's

wild how that game.

>> Jonathan: Works. Yeah, but there's a finite window of.

Because, uh, we'll do typically 22, 23 episodes a

season. We start mid July. We'll go to May. So you

have May, June, maybe a week or so in July that

you could do other projects. And the first bunch

of years I was. It was just Non stop. I was, I was

reading scripts when I, you know, was working here

in Chicago on the show to just for something

during my hiatus. And then, you know, there's

projects that you want to do that you chase, that

you don't get, or, you know, either directors or

casting directors you want to read for, directors

you want to work with that you know, you don't

get. But the opportunities, it's good to just get

in there. Uh, and then you get maybe offered

something. And usually if you get, it's, it's

great. But typically, yeah, not what you want to

be.

>> Jonathan: Doing.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. And like one time I did it, I got offered

this horror flick and I said no and I was chasing

something else and it, the timing didn't work out

or fell through. And then they came back and then

they had a female lead and they came back with

another offer, a bunch of money. And I was like,

yeah, I'll do it. So I went to, it was in Serbia,

so I, so now I was in Serbia for like a month and

a half. Um, in, uh, outside of war. And no one, no

one around. There's a sheep farmer that didn't

speak English and I'd hang out with him in the

morning with his sheep and I go walking in the

woods and we talk to each other. I'd speak English

and he'd be serving, but I didn't know what the

hell he's saying. And uh, Rocky Arakia was, uh, is

plum wine. So we drink plum wine, walking sheep.

And I mean, that was like a month and a half of

my, you know, my life. I'm like, why'd I do this?

And the M. Movie, the movie was shitty. But, But

Serbia is beautiful. Yeah. Yeah. So it's like you

have to weigh your, you know, it's a, it's a time.

>> RB: Thing.

>> Jonathan: Right? It's. So now, now I, I get to break. Uh.

And you know, I, I, I want to spend time with my

family. I want, I want a, a little downtime.

>> RB: So. Yeah, it all changes when you have kids. Yeah,

that's, it's, that's for sure. I mean, um, but

what is your, the, the shooting schedule like, um,

as far as, do you do it mostly certain times of

the day. I know there's some night scenes. I'll be

honest. I never watched Chicago Fire until we

played. Until I took your money at Nemacullin. Um,

but I'll get you back one.

>> Jonathan: Day. One.

>> RB: Day. Now that I watch it, it's, it's, it's what? I

just think it's so wild how much goes into a.

>> Jonathan: Show.

>> RB: Yeah. Like, how. How long does one episode take

to.

>> Jonathan: Shoot? Uh, two weeks. Roughly. Two.

>> RB: Weeks. That's crazy. One.

>> Jonathan: Hour. Yeah. And that's an hour. A lot of it. Like,

the incident scenes. You see anything? Action. I

mean, there's so many moving pieces, but it might

be. We might spend a day, maybe two days, and that

might be a minute and a half or two minutes of on

the screen. Um, so, yeah, it's a lot of hurry up

and wait, but. And I. Like, if we were working. If

I was working while you guys were still here, I

know you're taking off. I'd say come by set, but

it's like, I don't, uh. You know, you don't want

to see the magic. You know, I don't want to lose.

Lose the stuff. But it's a lot of hurry up and

wait, a lot of cakes and a lot of.

>> RB: People. But I feel like Ryan would not be a good

firefighter. Just trying to get up the step to.

>> Jonathan: The. Hey.

>> Jonathan: Dude. We did have a fire. We were on the west

side, and we were shooting. This is like, a couple

years ago, but with all our gear, all our stuff,

and there's a proper fire breaks out at an

apartment complex right beside us. So we all run

over, and it's, uh, fully involved. I mean, it's

like, people are. It's moving, and people are

running out. They're screaming, this is a real

fire. This is a real fire. And we're all over and,

like, it doesn't. We. I have. I have full bunker

gear on a helmet. And they're like, hell, I'm

like, hey, guys. And you want to go over. But then

we're getting yelled at by, like, uh, ads and what

producers. Like, you can't. Like, guys, what are

you gonna do? Get the hell away from there. And

then some of the guys that we work with are

firefighters, like, uh, that help out, but they're

in, like, their civvies, so they're running over

and all our trucks and what have you, the props.

It's just so. People are just confused as hell.

And then the real, like, real fire department

comes, and they're like, what the hell are you

guys? Like, what's going on here? And it was. I

don't know what paper, but it was. It was like,

uh, in the Tribune or something the next day. It

was like, fake fire. Fake firefighters show up to

real fire, decided to do nothing. It was. It was.

It was gnarly. But, yeah, I mean, can you Imagine

like, you know, running out of a place like.

>> RB: Hell.

>> Jonathan: Help. And it's just a bunch of actors standing

around because they're probably like.

>> RB: What are these firefighters.

>> Jonathan: Doing? Uh, that's what I mean. Like, you know, you

think about it, you don't. In your mind, you're

in. You're in that role of acting and you see what

you are trying.

>> RB: To. So needless to say, you guys didn't do.

>> Jonathan: Anything.

>> Jonathan: No. You dropped away. What are you going to.

>> Jonathan: Do? Dude, I was driving up last week, we had snow.

And I was driving up on my way to work and I, uh,

passed the person in the ditch. So naturally I

stopped. I'm like, hey man. I'm like, you need

help? And he's like, yeah, I do. I was like. So

then I'm, you know, I'm obligated, which is fine.

I didn't have chains in my truck. So I said, let

me go back in my side by side. I have a winch on

it, so I'll come back up. And he's like in this

Honda Civic in the ditch like this. There's snow

everywhere. And I never did this in my life. I'm

like, how the hell am I going to get him out? So I

couldn't figure out he didn't kill you. Well, I'm

asking him. Like I said, you, you hook it up

because I don't want to be responsible for pulling

your bumper off with this winch. And he tried to

hook it up on like the tire rod. I'm like, that's

probably not a good idea because it's probably

gonna bend the tire. So anyways, I find a little

loop underneath his car and I, I pull him out. You

know, he's pulling up and I tell him to stop. I'm

like, I gotta get under the car to unhook it. And

as I'm doing it, this tractor trailer is coming

around the bend about to come up the hill towards

us. And I just see it. I'm like. And I felt like I

was in a damn movie because I'm hu. Hurrying up.

I'm getting down, I'm trying to unhook this thing.

This truck's rolling up the hill. And I got him

out, pushed him off, off he went. I never got his

name. I don't know his first name. He doesn't know

my name. But he beeped the horn and waved and I

waved. And then I went just like a.

>> Jonathan: Uh. I felt like I was truck, dump.

>> Jonathan: Truck. I was like, yeah, I felt like I was in a So

I was a.

>> RB: Hero.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. For.

>> Jonathan: Somebody.

>> Jonathan: Nice. On that day in Morgantown, you felt.

>> Jonathan: Good. I felt good, yeah. Good.

>> Jonathan: Deed. Felt.

>> RB: Good. Yeah. That's.

>> Jonathan: Great. You know, like making a birdie, so. Which

we had a lot of fun. Man, we got to play so much

golf. A little bit. I mean, there for a while, I

felt like you were showing up at Nemicol, like,

every other.

>> Jonathan: Week. Yeah, I did. I dig it. Well, it became a pit

stop in between, uh, uh, Lancaster and Chicago.

And I remember. So my wife Ash, uh, I. I duped

her. I was like. We were going to take a road

trip, uh, from Chicago to Pennsylvania. I was

like, this is a year or two ago. And I was like,

we'll go a little south. Stop at a golf course.

She's like, okay, French, uh, lick. So she's like.

We end up there, and it was pouring rain. She

goes. She goes, it's eight hours south. This is

not even. You're like, oh, don't worry, hon. We'll

stop at the Greenbrier next. It's on the way. And

then we ended up in.

>> RB: Nevaeh.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. She was not.

>> Jonathan: Serious. You went.

>> Jonathan: Everywhere. Yeah. Yeah. And so that wasn't, you

know, it wasn't along the way, but yeah, I like. I

like a good road trip, and I like to find

different tracks and. Yeah, for a while there,

yeah, I'll. I, um, would go.

>> Jonathan: Anywhere. I'll.

>> Jonathan: Um. I've done it all over the.

>> RB: Place. You went to.

>> Jonathan: Driving? Uh, Taylor likes to.

>> Jonathan: Drive.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. He like. I mean, Sage Valley. He rode out at

like.

>> Jonathan: Midnight.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. He was like, I'm. I'm hitting the red.

>> RB: Boys. I woke up to a pair of freshy shoes, which

was great. I mean, let's. That golf trip was one

shows up at a restaurant every once in a while,

sees his favorite actor from Chicago Fire. He'll

go over and introduce himself. But in reality, we

would never have.

>> RB: Yeah. And that's wild to me that golf does that

with so many relationships. That we all have.

Right? Yeah, um, it's true. And now we, we're

taking golf trips together. We went to Peachtree

and Sage Valley, um, which Peachtree to me is one

of my top three favorites. I love that.

>> Jonathan: Place. And it's, it's not lost on me either. Like,

uh, like I said, like my old man was the uh, the

big golfer. So I grew up with, you know what, the

Masters were always on the television. He was

just, you know, I'm sure he put a couple bucks on

stuff, so he was always watching. So I know a lot

of the names, the tracks and uh, like with Formula

one, like I remember playing video games and so I

know the tracks and you know, the first time

seeing, you know, like I remember going, um, I

think we were in France, but then we go over to

Monaco and we're going down Monaco and we're

going. I, I'd come to and, and I'm like, oh, we're

going the wrong way. You're going the wrong way

down the tunnel. Like through the tunnel and

Monaco in the track. So like these things, it's

like the game comes to life and so there's certain

tracks that like I've seen on television. Like I

took my younger brother to pebble and like the

place is amazing. It's like when you, yeah. When

you, you spend enough time watching it or playing

on Tiger woods or what have you and you get there,

it's like there's a certain, there is a real.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. I just think it. And I've gotten to play

some pretty, some pretty neat tracks that you guys

included that I, that I wouldn't otherwise. So

it's. Yeah, I, I'm, I just, I love it. I love, I

love everything about the.

like if I were gonna do a show, my own show, I, I

Depend. Something. I'm thinking like something

along the lines, like golf detective. Right. So

it's. It's like a drama that you have. Like, uh,

like a well to do guy that wants to retire. He

just likes to golf. And so he. So then he gets

invited different places, but he's. It. It's like

a Magnum PI but on a golf course in different

courses. But you, like, you shoot the course

really well, and then, you know, you'd have a

storyline like, he solves, like, white collar

crimes and helps buddies, but then it parlays and

he keeps. And then it's just at a different club

in a different thing. He's just like the guy. And

so you go. Just because I want to, you know, like,

it'd be cool to go shoot an episode on the golf

course and. And showcase the golf course, but the

storyline is almost like the. The backdrop. But

then you could do, like, I don't know, you shoot

like a nine. Nine tier. Nine, uh, nine episodes or

something like that. So if anyone out there, don't

steal it, because I'll find you and I'll cut your

toes.

something I get a kick out.

played one day, I was talking to Pep and I was

like, dude, the most ingenious or genius thing is

Taylor's golf bags. Everywhere he plays or

whatever he writes on his bag, you know, whatever

>> Jonathan: Great. Like, on the walls. When I was a kid, like,

uh, I had a bunk bed. My younger brother. And then

the, like the. It's like an A frame and I was the.

The top. So I, I never slept great. But I draw on

the ceiling. And then I started getting, um, like,

you know, mom's like, you need to chill. So then

I'd use like a canvas. But when I got places, I

still do. Like, I couldn't wait to be a grown up

when I was a kid, I was like, I'm gonna do that. I

do that. Like, but, you know, I've tamed it down.

But for a while there, uh, My place here in

Chicago or Old Place, when I was a young bachelor.

I mean, it was just covered, like, I. I just

tagged the wall. It was.

away from the acrylics. But, yeah, like, I do

Sharpie, so I get, like, now I just order them,

So I have, like, hundreds of my own Sharpies,

like, different names on the side, but I just like

it. And then. And I just happen to, like, tag

stuff, but I stay away from walls. I used to do a.

tattooing, like yourself, does it, uh. Do you even

I've done on my. I've done my own, but I have. I

have one, uh, on my leg that a buddy did. We did.

I did a Jesse, uh, Spencer. Uh, he was a castmate

for 10, 11 seasons. And, uh, he was taking. He was

taking off the next season. So I was like, we're

doing a Vegas trip. And so I rented. I rented a

plane, uh, and it was like 10 of us. So we go to

Vegas, whatever, and we're on the plane in the

middle, like, you know, we had our own thing. So I

bring a tattoo gun. So while we're, you know,

30,000ft, he's tattooing me. And there's ink

everywhere. And it says. It says. It says. It was

supposed to say keep. Keep, uh, swinging, like,

for the. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, keep

swimming down here. And then I have another one

where it's like a friend I had do a. I go just do

us. Do a portrait of this. Of my other buddy, my

buddy Rob. And it was. It was terrible. It was

awful. I go, tattoo it on me. And so I have that,

and it looks. It's just absurd. It's ridiculous.

bocce ball game. A loss in San Diego. So I was

like, it was either this because the other team

was gonna got to pick it and we had to pay for it.

And then it was supposed to be like a dolphin

corner. Kisses. I was like, I'm not doing that.

It's like a, uh, dolphin with a unicorn horn and

thing jumping over it was something absurd. I was

like, I'm not doing.

Because you're sober now. Like, you don't drink.

shooting black and white. Um, and I like film. And

the size is important just because I, uh, shoot

with a medium format camera and that's. That's as

big as I can get the photo without losing

resolution. So on a digital camera, the. I mean,

anything pixelated is squares if you bring it

down. So it's always going to have a bit of a. A

blockiness to it. And with film, it's. It's

circles, so there's a softness. And I just, I've.

I always like big film.

that. And then I'll take it to a lot of, like, a

lot of times that I'm out golfing. So I'll take

like landscape stuff or I'll give it to a club.

Like, I did it here in Chicago. I gave, uh, you

know, like, I'll frame them. It just takes time.

It's like something I enjoy doing. And then like,

I'll gift it to the club. That's so cool. The

Harvest and then my home track in Lancaster, they.

in like Hoboken. But yeah, ice was in that. So I

have a buddy that I met I don't know years ago,

but him and his wife have a dispensary, uh, or you

know, the shop in Laguna. And then they were

opening one in New York and I, I was like, yeah,

yeah, I'll go in. So put, you know, we went in

together and then he's boys with ice and then

we're at stuff. So now I see ice and we're busy

together doing that. Uh, so that's kind of rad. It

is. If you're outside, you're outside this, the

outskirts of the of New York City and you want to

get stoned, uh, stop by the Medicine.

was a hundred and fifteen dollars. But instead of

taking a direct flight like a normal human being

would do in the.

Detroit this morning. And I'm like, oh no, it is

dumping snow in Detroit. I sent him a photo. He's

like, this may be the dumbest thing you've ever

done, ever. So then I go, I finally land in

Chicago. I had to wait for him because he's taking

a uh, um, prop plane from Morgantown, West

Virginia to.

>> Jonathan: Here. I'm took a direct flight and, and Morgan

down to.

>> RB: Chicago. And I knew he was getting in later. I

didn't realize it was that much later. I'm not

exaggerating you. I drove around the circle of the

terminals 37 times just wasting time because what

am I gonna do sitting a lot and scroll my phone.

So finally I took a little breather. Well the one

breather I took it at o'. Hare. A tow truck pulled

up in front of me. I'm like dude, you can tow

this. It's a rental car. It's probably easier if

you tow this thing right back. They do not mess

around there. It's one minute. Let's go. Keep it

moving. So I just kept driving around, driving

around. So that was my day this morning. Started

at.

>> Jonathan: 3:15. But he knew that I told him I was gonna be

an hour.

>> RB: Later. It's my but I'm a gold member now. Hey, we

found out in the car. We got the news in the car

that I'm a gold member.

>> Jonathan: Now. What comes with that? What do you get with.

one.

>> Jonathan: Free upgrade a year when it probably resets

January 1st. Yeah. Gold member next 12 days. Uh

working. I'm chipping away at something here. I

>> Jonathan: Back in the day to. To get cross country flights

or what have you. I don't think you can do it

anymore. But you know how like you go down, you

look for to book a ticket and then as you go down

down they get incrementally cheaper. If that first

stops.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. So to get from LA to Philly my younger

brother was good at this. He'd find. So you'd find

a flight from like LA to Miami but that was

stopping in like Portland and then San Antonio and

then New York and then Miami. But so you find one

that crosses a city that that you want to hop off.

So you just take a carry on and then you book that

which is like it's super cheap because it's big

bang all over and you hop out at the destination.

So we used to do that just because we were broke

and it was a little like glitch in the system. So

I get this flight one year to get back to Philly.

That's how layover in. In Portland and same it got

snowed and I got stuck there for a week and a

half. I think what I had no money and I was like I

had to call. I had to call my mom's and she

Western Union meat money and I still couldn't get

a flight. I'm hanging out with like the homeless

guys underneath the bridge there's. I'd go to the

library. I stayed a little place called the Doug

Fir. And they had a great little venue, but I. I

had to spend the money to.

had. I had the Gold. My Gold membership, then you

would have been all right. But. Yeah, I don't.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. And I'm like, I'll look at a putter. So in

the meantime, I was like, uh, oh, there's wedges

on. So then I'm ordering wedges, then I'm getting

irons. And it's. Yeah, it's like a. This is like a

little miniature Disney, uh, for.

>> Jonathan: Golf. Yeah. I mean, you come up here and it's

like, you get whatever you want. You pick out all

the finishes, all the colors, stamping the neck. I

mean, honestly, to the point where you don't know

if you're even getting what you need. You're just

getting what you kind of want because you're going

on looks. But that putter I was messing with, that

zero, uh, torque. Yeah, it's. She's pretty.

>> Jonathan: Life? I have another story about that. So I was

doing a show, Trauma, in San Francisco, and I'm

playing a paramedic, so in the same vein. And I

had this, uh, from that first job that I shot in

San Diego, uh, right before the housing market

crashed, we had this little cottage, uh, and we

were paying. I don't know. It wasn't. It wasn't

terribly. It wasn't a lot. It was just three of

us. And the landlord's like, if you guys stay, if

you stay for a year, I'll cut the rent in half. So

then we were paying. I paid 500 bucks a month for

my little room for. Ended up being years until he,

like, tore it down and built. But the place was

magic. And so I'm staying there and we're

watching, uh, like, surfer dude or something in my

buddy's room, which is like over the. That butts

up to the alley. It's a single story, like, 1940s

cottage just made of, like, cedar. And this. This,

like, homeless guy, vagrant, back alley vagrants

banging on the window. He's like, your house is on

fire. Your house is on fire. And there's like 10

of us in the back room. And I go up and I'm like,

no, no, no. Uh, we're good, man. Just on your way.

I go back down. I don't know, some crazy guy out

there, and he keeps banging. Like, he go back your

house somewhere. I'm like, dude, what the fuck? So

I go out, I go to the street, and the house is on.

>> Jonathan: Fire.

>> Jonathan: No. So I run back in. I'm like, guys, I have

something. And then everyone. They do the same

thing. What the fuck? Then they run out. They're

like, oh, shit, that was on fire. So you like,

your.

>> RB: Head.

>> Jonathan: Your. Your head doesn't work like you think it

would during. You know when. So we're running

into. It's that close. It's. It's. It's like a

buddy later is like, I saw from 15 miles away up

Mission app, like. Like, it torched half the

house. But I go out, I grabbed a phone charger of,

uh. Uh, my buddy grabbed an amp. Like, you don't

know. I grabbed nothing of value. It was just

scurrying. And then I'm out. And we're standing

there while it's burning down. And there was one

guy in.

>> Jonathan: A wet suit while it was burning.

>> Jonathan: Down. His wetsuit was, like, around his waist,

tied down. And he's on my neighbor's roof with a

hose, and he's just squirting it the fire. So

anyway, fire department comes, they ruin the whole

backside. It gets split out. And later, my buddies

are like, hey, man, you were on that show. You're

the parent. Like, you're the first responder. You

didn't do shit. I was like, what was I gonna do?

But no, it's, uh. No, I have the utmost respect

for, uh, firefighters. And that was the big thing

when I started was like, I want to. Like, that's

the litmus test of being able to walk by a

firehouse. And if I don't get roasted, you know,

then, uh, I can. I can hold my head.

>> RB: High.

>> Jonathan: Cool. And that was a big thing. So I don't know if

I could put out a fire. I sure have more tools

than. Than.

>> RB: Not. Right? But, yeah, you stand a better chance

of me or him possibly. Um, yeah. Dream foursome,

>> Jonathan: Alive. Oh, uh, just my pop and my brothers, I

think. You know, my pop passed away, I don't know,

seven years ago or, you know, six years ago. Uh,

and I, uh. My. It would just be cool to play with

Uh, but it's. It's. It. You never know when it. It

auditioning, it's like, it's wild because it. It

can't not.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Like, it has to stem from, like, it's

something that you want. Right. Because otherwise,

if it wouldn't exist, like, you wouldn't. You

know, you wouldn't have this feeling, care. And,

uh, so. And there. And there has to be something.

Like, I can't do my job without an audience. And

so it's like the observable thing. It's like a

quantum.

>> Jonathan: Thing.

>> Jonathan: Yeah. I think the more eyes on you, it's like the

observation thing. It's like you have to have be

honed in more. It's like my big thing is, uh, it's

the setting. So, uh, auditioning. I don't know if

it's something I really wanted. I'd probably be a

little antsy, but then I'd prepare accordingly.

But there's something that, like, I love these,

like, the YouTube clips of people getting, like,

they're at, like, uh, some charity thing, and they

line up like they do. Like they're at a PGA event,

and then they get, like, someone beelines it into

their. You see the one where the skull. They tee

off and it hits. Some lady goes to the ground, and

then they hit it again. It hits her again. She

goes, make it.

>> RB: Stop.

>> Jonathan: Stop. I wouldn't. I don't think I would do that.

Like, you know, like the first tea at.

>> Jonathan: Augusta.

>> Jonathan: Right. Like, I'm. I'm baffled. Like, I was

telling, uh, telling John, I two years ago, went

for a Saturday, and I'm. I'm down. Like, I'm not

going to neck for the. I'm not Trying to get

close. Like, it'd be cool to see someone in the

tee box from a vantage point that's respectful of

what they're doing. But the people that are

leaning over in, like, the 50ft away from what

could be a shot in the head. I. I that baffled.

Like, I wouldn't be on the tee box comfortable

doing that. Like, hey, here's a bunch of pros,

and, hey, here's some actor guy tee off. I'm not

doing it because I know I'm gonna hit someone

right in the.
