Planning is essential, but plans are useless. Because by planning or putting together a plan, you create a starting point. It creates a guiding north. You start going to the gym, you start changing your diet, you start speaking to your friends about the thing that you want. In order to kind of put it out there, you have to take action. You come up with a business plan and you start figuring out how to attract new clients and create consistency in your marketing. But rarely is the plan that we start with, the plan that we look back on that produces the results. That's why planning is essential, but plans are useless. So yeah, you got to be on the court of life, moving towards either the goal that you've set for yourself, the desire that you have, or just being engaged and enjoying your life, period. Rather than being consumed by self sabotage or procrastination or indecision or feeling like you're not enough. Again, going back to step two, Eliminate the resistance. When you're out there in life, either taking consistent, simple daily action towards the things that you want to produce, or you're just out there enjoying your life. Life will work with you. Remember step three to create the rendezvous, the coincidences and the synchronicities to produce the result. Welcome to A Changed Mind. A journey into the topics that matter to you most. A place where each and every episode I remind you of the certainty of the goodness of the future. I'm your friend, your host, your guide, David Bayer. TIS the season for goal setting, which means it is the time of year where most people decide to do many new things in the upcoming year and fail to achieve them. Now, don't get me wrong, we certainly have incremental improvements in our life. But if you're like me, you've probably gone year after year after year setting goals. Big goals, a big vision and Achieving just a fraction of it. So if you are tired of setting goals and not achieving them, and you're wanting to really crush this next year with big goals and a big vision, and to be able to actually materialize and manifest that vision into reality, you're going to love this episode, because what I'm going to be sharing with you has absolutely changed my life.
It is a method of setting goals that incorporates neuroscience and quantum field theory and metaphysics. I've used this framework over the last eight years to literally go from having no money in my bank account, two homes in foreclosure, completely unclear about my purpose in life, and single for 10 years, to growing a $30 million transformational company, helping millions of people, married to the woman of my dreams, and living a life that I never thought possible. And all that is due to this framework that I'm going to be teaching you. It has five steps, and again, it incorporates all the major frameworks from behavioral psychology to neuroscience to quantum theory. So it does not matter if you're coming goal setting from a peak performance standpoint or if you're coming at it from a spiritual standpoint. So stay tuned, because what I'm going to share with you is absolutely going to change your life just like it did mine. And by the way, this is also episode 100 of this podcast, another milestone. So I want to thank you for being here and being a part of this community and the show. And the fact that this podcast has gone from zero to a million listeners a month in less than 28 months is a testament to everything that I'm gonna share with you right now.
Okay, this five process starts with one thing, and that is get clear on what you want. Now, I know it may seem common sense, but a lot of people come into the new year very, very focused on the things that they didn't like in their previous year. I don't wanna be overweight anymore. I don't wanna be undisciplined. I don't wanna be single. I don't wanna have relationship friction. I don't wanna have fear of financial insecurity. And you gotta actually get focused and clear on what you want. So a year and a half ago, I knew that I had a message to share. I knew that what I was sharing helped a lot of people. We built a very successful business, and I could have been focused on the fact that my brand was not as big as I wanted it to be. And I wasn't helping more people through my social media or a podcast or my books. But I got clear at the end of the year on what I wanted. And what I wanted was to have a podcast that would impact millions of people. You have to know what you want, because desire is the catalyst for all change. And that's really a writer downer. All change starts with a desire for something. It's a desire for something. It's not to get away from something. Now, 10, 12, 14 years ago now, it was this time of year, at the end of the year, I'd been single for 10 years, and I made a decision that I was going to meet a beautiful Colombian woman and make her my wife. I didn't make that decision because I was trying to get away from being alone. I made that decision because I thought Colombian women were some of the most beautiful women in the world. And I knew I was ready for a relationship. It came from a place of excitement, and I was very clear on what I wanted. And two weeks later, through a string of incredible synchronicities, I'm not going to go through the whole story now.
I talk about it on other episodes. I met the future Mrs. Carol Bear. That all came from desire and being clear on what I wanted. And so I know that sometimes this last year can feel really, really tough. There were a lot of contrast and changes for a lot of people, a lot of challenges to overcome. This could have been a huge growth year for you. But the key is to be clear on what it is you want. Napoleon Hill talks about this. He talks about a burning desire for something. Neville Goddard, one of the great mystical teachers that talks about the power of imagination and how to create from the fourth dimension, said that in order for you to materialize or manifest what you want, you have to be clear on what it is. And so a lot of people just continue with the momentum of the previous year, running into the next year, and then wondering why they're experiencing what I call a Bill Murray Groundhog Day type of experience. If you remember that great movie from the early 90s, where Bill Murray is living the same day over and over and over again. For many of us, it feels like we're living the same year over and over and over again. Number one is you got to know what you want. This is the time of year to do things like vision boards. It is the time of year to set goals. Whether it's in your business or your health or your relationships. This is the time to do that. And it's very important that you establish as much clarity as you have access to around those things that you want okay, that's step number one. Step number two. After getting clear on what you want, the most important thing that most people forget is that you must let go of the resistance that you actually have to the thing that you want. Many people mistake the idea of New Year's resolutions as coming up with a list like the New Year is Santa Claus and submitting that list to the New year, expecting to get it. But resolution has its roots in resolve to resolve to complete, to let go of, well, what are we completing and letting go of? Well, we're letting go of the psychology and the neurology, the habits of thought and habits of emotion that we held in the previous year that were the reason why we didn't manifest or create what we're wanting to create in the previous year. And so, as you move into a new year, real resolution is completing the trauma, the stories, the limiting beliefs that you're ready to put down and let go of so that you can be a different person and create a different year in the new year. You know, even as I started this podcast, I had a lot of resistance. I started looking at the first few episodes. Nobody was listening. It was a couple hundred listens on the audio platform, a couple hundred watches on YouTube. You can actually go back if you're listening on YouTube and look at some of the earlier episodes. Nobody was watching. And I was getting frustrated. It was like, what am I doing wrong? I'm putting my message out there. Episode 10, nothing really changed. Episode 15, nothing really changed. Episode 25, nothing really changed. It wasn't until episode 46, almost eight months after I started the podcast, that this show went from about 5,000 listens a month on the audio platforms and 5,000 watches a month on YouTube to a million listens a month in one month. I was at a conference recently and I was introduced. The host mentioned that I have a pretty big podcast and was helping a lot of people. And so when I was at the VIP dinner, somebody sitting at my table said, hey, like, what did you do that created the shift where your podcast went from like, nothing to something really, really big? And I said, well, do you want the third dimensional answer or the fourth dimensional answer? He said, well, what's the third dimensional answer? I said, well, I recorded an episode and didn't give up. And about 46 episodes in.
All of a sudden, the metrics on my shows were pret good. And the YouTube algorithm said, Hey, I guess we should show this to more people, and started showing it to more people and in one month showed it to A million people. And it really hasn't looked back since. He said, what's the fourth dimensional explanation? And I said, my son was born. He said, what does your son being born have to do with your podcast exploding? And I said, well, because up until my son being born, what I was really making matter was the underperformance of my podcast. I was thinking it should be happening sooner. Why is it working for other people? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. You know, all the limiting beliefs that aren't created by the underperformance of my podcast, but limiting beliefs that I've held a long, long time, that my podcast underperformance was just reflecting back to me. And I said, when my son was born, pretty much nothing else mattered. All of my attention went to my son. So even though I kept recording podcast episodes, the underperformance didn't matter. And, you know, I have a saying that I learned from one of my mentors, which is what you make matter becomes matter. And since so I was no longer making the underperformance of my podcast matter, it stopped becoming material, it stopped becoming the reality. And so what becomes real when your underperformance no longer matters? Performance becomes real. And all of a sudden, my podcast took off. Not because I did anything differently, but because I let go of the resistance that I was holding to the thing that I wanted, which was a podcast that was impacting millions of people. So you got to do the work. I would say that's the most important thing you can do in the first 30 days, even the first quarter of the new year, is notice when you're moving towards the creation of the goals that you've set. Step one, the desires that you have. Notice the resistance. Well, what's the resistance? It's that inner dialogue. It's those emotions that don't feel good. It's the thinking that you're undisciplined or it's never going to work out, or it works out for other people but not for you, or that you don't have enough time, or that you don't have enough money, or that you don't matter, or that you're not good enough. It's a little bit different for everybody, but you get really excited in the new year and you start going out to pursue these new desires or these goals and dreams. And then as things don't happen as quickly as you'd like them to, or things don't go as you expect, you have a reaction to it. Well, your reaction is the thing that you want to pay attention to. Because guess what? The thoughts and beliefs that get triggered when things don't go your way, that's not actually a reaction to things not going your way. That's what's creating things to not go your way. Those thoughts and those beliefs and those stories, you've been holding those for a long time. And so whether you're not getting the business growth that you want, or the body growth that you want, or the health change that you want, or the relationship or financial change that you want, that's just a mirror. And what it's going to trigger and reflect is a pattern of thinking and a pattern of emotion. And that is what the resistance is. That is what's ready to go. And so again, whether you use the great tools that I teach you on this show or what other great teachers teach, just know that probably the most important piece in this five step process is letting go of the resistance and letting go of of the attachment. And that's essential because that's how information and intelligence and energy begin to flow to you. As you start to operate in non resistance. As you allow things to unfold, you stay in flow, you stay connected to spirit, you stay inspired, you stay in a co creative experience with life itself. You start to have the thoughts and the ideas that are necessary as you allow the course correction to take place without beating yourself up or judging other people. Now I'm going to get to action here in a moment. I'm not suggesting that you just have a desire and you eliminate the resistance and you wait on your sofa for a million dollar business or the soulmate of your life, or the solution to your chronic health challenges to show up at your house. But what I am saying is that the moment you have a desire, the next step is to drop the resistance. And the third piece here is that life starts to coordinate the results for you. This is really, really important to understand. It's not so important that you have the perfect planner that you need to know how stay in a space for a little while of this is what I want and I'm non resistant, non attached to it. That's the space where authentic ideation comes from. That's the space where innovation comes from. That's the space where you create coincidences and synchronicities. I've shared this five step process before from Abraham Hicks and it's very similar to what Neville Goddard talks about with creating from the fourth dimension. But both of those great teachers bas the moment you have a desire, all of intelligence begins to move to materialize that desire for you. All the coincidences, the synchronicities, the ideas get activated in the quantum field and start to head your way that become the plan and ultimately you look back on and go, that's how I produce the result. Other ideas become active for other people and they pursue those ideas and then you meet them in these intimate rendezvous where they become an important part of you realizing or creating the results that you want. Whether that's making more money, whether that's finding the right personal trainer, whether that's meeting a friend who can be an accountability buddy with you so that you are more disciplined, whether it's a spiritual teacher that you attract into your life so that you can let go of some of this resistance and get rid of some of these limiting beliefs that are keeping you in the same life year after year after year. But what happens is the moment you have a desire and you don't have a lot of resistance to that desire, you activate in what Neville Goddard calls the fourth dimension, that thing that you want and it begins to find its way into your third dimensional five senses reality. And it finds its way into your reality again through an internal mechanism which is you start to have thoughts and ideas. And when you're non resistant, you've got empowered emotions that then catalyze productive action that then consistently produce the type of result that you want. Or as you're holding these positive emotions and you're tapping into these ideas, you're also resonating at that frequency and everyone else is picking up on that frequency and you're creating coincidences and synchronicities. That's the external mechanism of how thoughts become things or how something goes from the fourth dimension to your third dimensional reality. A lot of entrepreneurs, because that's who we work with, but a lot of people in general think they need to know the how. It's like, well, this year I want to build a million dollar business, but I need to know how. This year I want to transform my health, but I need to know the how. This year I want to meet my soulmate, but I need to know how. And the truth is, is that you don't need to know how. When you're willing to have a desire which again remember step one and you're in non resistance, meaning you've cleared out the weeds or the limiting beliefs, or the stories or traumas that are in between you and the thing that you desire, well, you begin to imagine the outcome. You start to think about that transformed body, you start to imagine more money in your bank account, you start to imagine a more impactful business. You start to visualize what it's like to be with the person of your dream. And this is a very powerful process. This isn't Woo Woo. There was a study done, it was featured in Time magazine back in 2009 done by Harvard, where they brought in piano players and they studied what parts of their brain lit up as they were playing the piano. And then they brought them back in and they just had them imagine playing the piano and the same parts of their brain lit up. In fact, 80% of the brain activity is produced just through imagination. So your brain doesn't know the difference between imagination and reality. But as you are willing to imagine, as you understand that this should be a part of your daily practice, again, not withstanding action, action is important too. But as you're willing to kind of set aside the how and live in the desire and live in the non resistance, you start to activate and catalyze within your own brain the building of memories of a future that hasn't happened yet. And this is really profound because as your brain changes, you start to tune into thoughts and ideas, new thoughts and ideas that become the how, they become the plan. You start to vibrate at a different frequency, and you attract people and resources and timing into your life that you would look back on and go, that's what happened. In order for me to produce the result, I think about that decision I made and allowing it to exist in my imagination without needing to know the how and being in non resistance around my decision to meet a beautiful Colombian woman and make her my wife. It turned out that two weeks after that, it was my buddy's birthday in Sarasota, Florida. I was living in Orlando, so I invited another friend of mine to go down with me. So we all went out for dinner one night in Sarasota, and the buddy that I invited with me and I were standing at a bar restaurant, and there were some beautiful women across the way. And I said, man, look how beautiful those women are. And my friend said, man, I always get nervous talking to beautiful women. And I always got nervous talking to beautiful women too. But I had this idea, notice my language. I had this idea. I tuned into this idea where I was going to kind of one up him. I was like, come on, Ricardo, no big deal. I'm like, it's really easy. And I grab him by the wrist, we head over across the bar, and I tap this woman on her shoulder, and she turns around and it's the most beautiful Colombian woman I'VE ever seen who later became my wife. That was the weekend that I met Carol Gutierrez Bear. And that occurred as a result of non resistance, as a result of having a desire, but also as a result of not needing to know how I was going to meet Carol, but just allowing the plan to unfold, visualizing and imagining and trusting that the universe will put together all the cooperative components to put me in a circumstance or situation. Now, did I have to take action? Yes. I had to walk across the bar and say hello. I had to drive to Sarasota and be there for my friend's birthday. I wasn't staying at home just expecting a beautiful Colombian woman to show up on my doorstep. So you have to take action. And that takes us to this fourth piece which is have a daily action plan. Now in the case that I gave around meeting my wife, it's not like I had an action plan. I was just in life taking action. But notice I was in life taking action. As it relates to my podcast, I was taking action. I was recording one podcast episode a week. But I like what Eisenhower says. Supposedly Eisenhower said it. He said planning is essential. But plans are useless. That's why planning is essential. But plans are useless. Life will work with you, remember step three to create the rendezvous, the coincidences and the synchronicities to produce the results. So it's very important that you take action. It's very important that you take action towards your goals. But you don't have to hustle, you don't have to grind, you don't have to burn yourself out. You don't have to blow it all in the first 30 days of the year and then give up when the result that you're striving towards isn't produced. It's daily, simple actions on a daily, weekly and monthly basis that will get you to the goal setting promised land. And then the fifth piece here is really, really important. Have flexibility with yourself. Allow yourself to course correct. Allow yourself to learn from the process. Yes, take steps according to the action plan that you've put together in order to produce the results. But you got to be flexible because the plan rarely unfolds the way we expect it to. And this is most important with setbacks, because setbacks are going to happen. You're going to go out on a couple of dates and it's not going to be the person in your dreams. You're going to set a goal or have a vision to improve the relationship that you're in. And you know what? There's going to be another argument. You're going to set some goals to get into even better health and well being and there's going to be a setback and you're going to have some aches and pains. You're going to strive to produce more revenue and you're going to lose some clients or the marketing campaign's not going to work. This is the natural course of things. It's almost as if the previous year is saying to you, are you sure you want this change in the new year? Are you willing to stay loyal and faithful to this new goal that you've set? Are you willing to truly stay committed to your desire and the fact that we, life, the universe, or God or Jesus or Allah are going to co create with you and produce the results. How bad do you want it? And so just know that there are going to be setbacks, but don't go back on the goal that you've set. Sometimes we set goals and they don't even happen in the 12 months that we set them for. But you know what? 100% of the time, if you can work this framework consistently and predictably, you will produce the results on the timing that is meant for you to achieve. Or in other words, according to God's will or God's timing or whatever your higher power of your own understanding is. But that's the simple framework. Number one, know what it is that you want. Definitely and clearly going back to our friend Napoleon Hill. Number two, drop the resistance. Desire plus non resistance equals desired result. Thoughts do become things and you will Create your own reality in the new year. But it is most important that you do the resolution part of New Year's resolutions, which is leave behind or resolve the stories, the friction, the resistance, the limiting beliefs that have been preventing you from producing the result that you want. Number three, know that it's not just you. You are not alone. You are co creating with a power greater than yourself, both through the thoughts and ideas that you have and the thoughts and ideas that you activate in consciousness as you're willing to hold the vision and you start to activate within the fourth dimension, a reality that becomes manifest in the third dimension. Number four, Action is very, very important. We have to take consistent, daily, inspired action. But you know what? It's not as linear as you think. A lot of times you're out there taking one action and out of left field the result starts heading your way. Because life sees that you're committed. Life sees that you're willing to make those energetic and effort deposits and is willing to give you a return on that investment. And number five is be cool when it doesn't go your way. They're going to be setbacks. It's just the universe's way of testing you. And as long as you're willing to stay committed or be faithful to the vision that you've set 100% of the time, consistently and predictably, you will produce the result. So I hope you love that framework as much as I love sharing it with you. And do me a favor, if you're listening on the audio platforms, leave me a rating. If you're following along and watching the show here in the studio on YouTube, do me a favor and subscribe and leave me a question or comment. I mean, this is what I think, but what do you think?
