Ian:

Sorry, Tilly is asleep, so you have a stock voice doing the intro. This week Zola goes to an 81st birthday and an engagement party, all in one day! Dan and Tilly discuss the importance of being able to reset as parents. And also discuss their new metrics for 2024. Settle in and enjoy.

Tilly:

There we

Dan 1:

We're on.

Tilly:

week

Dan 1:

It's week 13. isn't it? Last week was week 12.

Tilly:

make sense. I remember last

Dan 1:

had this week, I had a bit of a grumbly baby.

Tilly:

that

Dan 1:

probably my fault. If you remember, last week, or the week before, my funny was that I found it funny that she bit my nose, nose the week when I was actually feeling a bit ill. So, we had a bit grumbly baby at the

Tilly:

Grumbler Peak the beginning of the week. I've had some very unproductive days of her just wanting to be on me and feeding the whole time.

Dan 1:

Then she started to get a bit pet up. Oh, she's looking a bit worse again.

Tilly:

Yeah, she had a long day yesterday.

Dan 1:

Alrighty. So, other than coping out, what else have we been up to? I guess let's start with the situation. So, I've just got the canned cereal, a bit later in the day today now, Sunday. Later in the day, you've already had breakfast, haven't you? What? You see? Yeah, we've tea. Yeah, I did. What's your tea? Oh. Is normal tea 10 and stuff like

Tilly:

Some collagen protein in my coffee. sort of chip and bite things. And then I've got a cup of tea. Although not regular tea, I don't like English un British, I don't even

Dan 1:

So, my cereal combination, exciting, is Honey Loops, again, the Alphaloot, Grave, and the Alknuckle.

Tilly:

pretty good

Dan 1:

mix, I

Tilly:

Yeah, it's, it's praise, rather than crave. Uh. They've gone real close.

Dan 1:

and probably Honey Loops instead of Honey Hoops.

Tilly:

No, it's Honey Hoop. But I'm not sure what the actual brand of the one is called. Yep, she's having can

Dan 1:

then, baby girls on the horse.

Tilly:

have we got? Um, it's good. Yeah? Um, well, I'm obviously but other than that, that's it, isn't it, had a sort of day full of, yes, family, family fun.

Dan 1:

else has happened? quite an interesting day yesterday. Yesterday, um,

Tilly:

we went down my granny's 81st birthday, which was lovely because my great uncle and his son, so my second cousin, had driven down and we were all there, so it was a big family, well I say big family, it wasn't a huge family, but for my granny it was big wasn't it. Um, a cake, I made a rich chocolate cake, that's what granny always wants, every year is a rich chocolate cake. Some kind of nut. Um, yeah, I was raised by our youngest niece, Millie. I'd spent the day with my mum and nana the day before. Mum goes after her on And they were going for a charity book. Oh, you can have a, you can pick any book. She said any time she could use the kids, there was was in. And she came back with this little toy. And mum went, oh, is that what you want instead? And she went, no, for baby Zola. My mum's like, I was doing it one day, and I over, look. So, it was the best part getting her whatever for a little toy for her. There's her.

Dan 1:

then even when she went to the checkout, and the lady at the checkout was like, Oh, this is very nice, is this for you? She went, No, it's Zola.

Tilly:

can't be known as just Zola, it's always baby Zola. Um, so when we arrived yesterday, Lily ran up to us very very excited with a toy. I didn't realise she'd chosen it, I thought she'd just stolen it from a pile of toys at the old home. When we were leaving, I was like, are we taking this? And then mum said, oh yeah, she bought that for like, okay. She's starting to grip. We'll just play with the mic a She's definitely starting to grab my hair a lot more. Um, but yeah, that's it for it, and then today we planned to have a completely lazy day, but actually it's already afternoon and we've not used the double chair. So yes. We had a grumpy morning, now we're okay. gonna do the podcast,

Dan 1:

Yeah.

Tilly:

then I'm gonna make this a nice slap of

Dan 1:

I've got a call, And I enjoy our road.

Tilly:

Black Widow? I mean,

Dan 1:

We'll be watching it.

Tilly:

do both. We've watched A Chance at My

Dan 1:

Yeah, we'll be watching

Tilly:

We could try. Have we got time for

Dan 1:

like, what, when? At three o'clock? Let's say

Tilly:

isn't it? Yeah. So I'm going to be two and then we'll watch the

Dan 1:

answer did not

Tilly:

White House Gone Fishing in bed.

Dan 1:

not good. Yep.

Tilly:

And it's a great bedtime watch, because are trying to do well. I mean, I managed one night.

Dan 1:

have, haven't we?

Tilly:

But yeah, oh, to that in and we'll do our

Dan 1:

Yeah, I've been a bit crampy this morning and put a bit of a downer on things, but I've tried, tried to brighten up.

Tilly:

It rides up for the

Dan 1:

work out to mentally reset and then get good at doing that as quickly as possible. Because there'll you're just not having it, you need to quickly be able to try

Tilly:

Yeah, absolutely. I find a shower really helps me. For me it's just booze, YouTube.

Dan 1:

a bit of comedy on YouTube, even like a 10 15 minute clip, have a bit of a laugh, take a bit of a breath, and get back on with it.

Tilly:

You're generally a more comfy person than I am, aren't you, in a way? Mm

Dan 1:

hmm.

Tilly:

That is your temperament. I'd like to try and

Dan 1:

I'd like to try and be more optimistic, but

Tilly:

you to try and be more optimistic. That's fine, you married an optimist. I'm not an optimist. I think you are. I think that's it. It's a long way. Yeah,

Dan 1:

just a long road.

Tilly:

that's fine. Life's a journey, isn't it? I'll be rolling a check and rosinus. I'll just do, um, I'll you know, when do come to get into these meetings, I'm It's not always the most pleasant thing for me. And that's, you know, a fact I understand that because that's the person I'm on, and I can hear that all my Um, but it doesn't mean it's always easy. So it's down to both of us to find a better way of So whether that's how you tell me you need

Dan 1:

Yeah.

Tilly:

do we come up with a

Dan 1:

Well, I can just right now. I down! Leave me alone! Please! Please leave me alone!

Tilly:

But I do think this is the sort of way you read it, you know, when it comes to the point where you just tell the newspaper, you know, darling, I need a reset, and I go, alright. Leave it at low.

Dan 1:

think we'll leave that point instead of me having to be like, basically, leave me alone! No, that's not. though.

Tilly:

see it build. I know it's coming and then eventually I'll be like, wow, I could have said that we could have done could have reset it. So if I need to go, do you need to reset? And

Dan 1:

Yeah.

Tilly:

can give me a sidekick on the back like, no, I'm fine,

Dan 1:

I'm gonna go reset.

Tilly:

you And then a bit tougher later, I need to reset. How do you tell a child, he's fat and I'm not telling it.

Dan 1:

Yeah, plant the seed, I think

Tilly:

that's often what

Dan 1:

That made me think it's my idea. Yeah. Yeah. The fragile precious little ego. hey everyone. So, it's quarter to five. I've been up since half two and I thought to myself, Oh, I haven't asked these lovely listeners to review the podcast. So, thank you for listening. Thank you for your time. And if you've liked it, please leave us a review. Oh no. She's kicking off. Uh oh, I better go see to her. Anyway, please leave a review and thank you for your time. Bye! I guess also. um, we've completed our planning midway through June.

Tilly:

Ah, that's alright.

Dan 1:

Yeah, I mean.

Tilly:

No, there's, no one has, like, free in court. Well, they do now.

Dan 1:

Yeah, well, technically by the time, we're only four weeks behind. By the be like mid Feb. But the, um, the date where fail it. And we've only just done New Year's Pride. So. Does that mean we're winning? or losing? don't

Tilly:

Oh, it's the greatest late run of the year, I suppose. Also, is it our next course? We should put it on our diary, actually.

Dan 1:

that's true. We're going to try and do a lot more, might need to metrics. push because I think know, people always have questions. Very airy fairy of stuff, and things a lot of them like to do are very qualitative, and so need to find the proper stuff. Like as we discussed last week, this idea of trying to keep our relations at the current level if not improve,

Tilly:

measure. I guess, if you're really

Dan 1:

You know, how do you, you can't really measure that

Tilly:

and then we also want to start couples therapy, so once I'm back at income coming in. Um,

Dan 1:

and, and it

Tilly:

do it for

Dan 1:

easy to measure. So

Tilly:

perfect time

Dan 1:

I guess if you were really accurate, you could do stuff like fraught words, the lowest one, exactly. And so instead, it was like, okay, the thing that matters most to us is our quality, it's the amount of. On this timing, and, yeah, you know, for that, it's measuring eight months. Or moolah.

Tilly:

My relationship is under more pressure.

Dan 1:

Yeah. We'll need to work out with baby Zoe. Haven't thought about that.

Tilly:

No. We've fought on that.

Dan 1:

Thursday.

Tilly:

Mum will be here late in the evening. I'll be at work.

Dan 1:

But will you be finishing, kind of, you know, sometimes, a lot, a lot of days you end up finishing, like, three, because you start, like, seven in the morning.

Tilly:

Yeah. I'm not, I still think, I think Mum probably will be gone by half four. Yes, we'll have to figure out what we us where she sleeps. Or breastfeed through it. very disturbing. I agree. Well,

Dan 1:

You'll be very distracted. Yeah. It's definitely we should talk about. Maybe it's like you say. Yeah. in person? Let's lot less

Tilly:

he can become like maybe once a fortnight, and look after day, and he stays, dad can just have Do you want to do think, let's That's pretty easy. I guess. That's probably fitting a lot better as well. a lot better. I don't think it's that Exactly, I just think it's not to travel, but to

Dan 1:

the question is like,

Tilly:

an hours, and

Dan 1:

effectiveness is more important when you do it consistently, than if got a, you know, politician while you're there, as it were. Um, maybe. Yeah. So what have, what have there

Tilly:

that's much harder to fit is there. Well, being able to speak

Dan 1:

Because we've got to, it's on Moods, and Firm, that's the target criteria.

Tilly:

Well, it helped find me, for a big difference. I'm doing the right thing, I'm doing the right thing.

Dan 1:

mean, What are

Tilly:

I generally just feel a lot more positive about the movement of my body, which is the thing that everyone knows, it releases endorphins, it's a lot better. But, you know, there can be days where you just don't want to do it. Actually, when I woke up in the morning, I was just tired after a long day. People say, you never regret a step. Well, I put it with a few engines. You keep moving

Dan 1:

yeah, and that, I like, we've both tried, not many sessions, do we? It's a bit of a laxative. Yeah, yeah.

Tilly:

meditations and things haven't you? I'm

Dan 1:

doing it, uh, once a day. I'm trying to meditate every day, of week or weekend.

Tilly:

maybe, people say, I too. If

Dan 1:

to get to the habit of doing like 10 15 minutes, then the amount of minutes per week is the metric, and then I've got increasing those minutes, then maybe increasing the session. Some people say I guess it depends on what you're trying to achieve, I think, because you

Tilly:

you

Dan 1:

to reach that.

Tilly:

it.

Dan 1:

amount of time it's affecting, and a lot of people kind of say that you need 20 minutes or whatever, and then some people say, and then you do it twice, trying to reach that. So that's Old sort of Hollywood transcendental mood. They're all sort of 20 minutes, 30 minutes a day, or day. And there are other people who if you're trying to achieve a bit more of a more

Tilly:

I guess.

Dan 1:

I would no more recommend just beat. It depends on what you're trying to achieve. If you more focus, more mood levels, or if I want great? I remember when I I always thought, like, you always think about what would you do if I meditated money? And the question is always, and a lot of people kind of say oh they would, you know, stop working or they'd buy these things and those They're all kind of like what they deem to be to happiness.

Tilly:

so,

Dan 1:

so I then would flip, and I'd say, okay.

Tilly:

police?

Dan 1:

What would you do if you were at the perspective of Arnold? Would you still work? And all these things.

Tilly:

what I'd

Dan 1:

what I'd like to achieve

Tilly:

do. What happens

Dan 1:

know, it sounds a

Tilly:

think it's

Dan 1:

you know, impossible. See in see me in 10 years time in my mom's old bed.

Tilly:

you couldn't put off old Devin.

Dan 1:

No.

Tilly:

No? No. Have you ever had a shaved head And you'll never be bald, so. I know, I'm good because you'll never be bald, unless you do it. It's the high.

Dan 1:

so I guess, what are your highs, lows, That's interesting.

Tilly:

So my, I guess my high mixture load was yesterday, so my, my granny's 80. That's really lovely to go. It's really nice to see family and take Zola and she got to meet someone she'd not met quite sad because my granny just isn't there anymore.

Dan 1:

No, she's

Tilly:

Like, she's been, downward turn for a long time, ever since she's been in her past couple of weeks, she seems to have like, deteriorated again. Like, she's not

Dan 1:

So should

Tilly:

really eating, she's looking even thinner, and my god, she's really, she couldn't stand to lose any more weight.

Dan 1:

character.

Tilly:

just looking not particularly alive.

Dan 1:

she's just, I what she was.

Tilly:

think she's at that point now where she wants to go. Since she doesn't want to It says she wants to live, but she doesn't No, she doesn't do the things that would help, like eating, um, or socialising. And a vibrant woman. She's always tough and strong and not like a soft, warm person, but she was always really vibrant and interesting, very intelligent and fierce and, character. But it was probably got don't care. Boring. And now she's just The shadow of what she was. I mean, I just, I know this stuff, you know. That woman.

Dan 1:

Well, I think it's very rare for anybody to have a great grandparent, as they're like

Tilly:

I think she'll know your grandparents pretty well, and I think she'll know Grandad pretty well. So I

Dan 1:

Yeah.

Tilly:

think she will know,

Dan 1:

You say that, but it depends when your memory kind of kicks in, when it really starts, when it works well

Tilly:

don't think they're going anywhere in the next few years.

Dan 1:

No, but like

Tilly:

I have, my great granny died when I was six, have quite a good memory of my great granny. I'm

Dan 1:

think my great granny probably died around the time in my memory, or that I don't really remember.

Tilly:

Sola's got a good memory

Dan 1:

Well, what I'm sort of saying is, like,

Tilly:

them.

Dan 1:

catalogue of memories, dependent on how in their life they are, we're talking by the age of, like, a long time, as well. Like, you know, if you're eighty odd, unfortunately, or your granny's eighty one and stuff, your grandad's the same age, my grandad's the same

Tilly:

I don't He'll be 78, he'll be 79 this year. I heard a younger one, um, Three years. Funny Zolas. I'll come on to that. Um, But yeah, so that was still quite sweet I suppose. Yesterday. I think we can make sure we're still, you know, We tend to see her for two or three weeks since Zola's been born. Um, I think she's born to keep up. I don't think she's going to be around that much longer. Looking at her, you know, she managed like an hour or so of partying, didn't she?

Dan 1:

A bit longer than that. We got there at like half twelve and I think she, she, you know, I think it was about, we left at what, three o'clock. So I think she was around till about two at least before she decided to go to her room.

Tilly:

Yeah, she'd been around up for a little bit before we got there.

Dan 1:

two hours. Yeah. It's a lot. you know I mean two hours doesn't sound like much, but you've got, you know, nieces, her toddlers running around, shouting, screaming, you've then got, like there's a lot for me and I'm just. And obviously lots of adults there trying to talk to you and lots of conversations going on and you kind of haven't come in

Tilly:

you're on quite

Dan 1:

mentally taxing if you're, if you're not socializing and if you're not doing,

Tilly:

no, yeah, it is. actually watched Hods earlier for a bit, which was

Dan 1:

And when I took it through. Afterwards, when everybody was off for the smoke break, she yells all over again.

Tilly:

So that was, yeah, that was, I guess, that was a high low.

Dan 1:

watched

Tilly:

and my high, again yesterday, and so did her first laugh, which was really sweet.

Dan 1:

I'm looking forward to the second. It

Tilly:

Yeah, proper sort of like, you know, you laugh and it's just like, you know, I know you love to make me laugh,

Dan 1:

at

Tilly:

something so beautiful and anxious about it. That's really nice to sort you know? Eventually I'll sort as well.

Dan 1:

the intermission noise in this, because I think it is just so It's actually sort of an infectious noise. Yeah. I

Tilly:

But I have a funny.

Dan 1:

No,

Tilly:

I can't think of what, maybe I will think, but not right now. Maybe I'll come back to it later podcast, but, no, I don't think

Dan 1:

So I, I think my high probably yesterday, and kind of nice to be able to go around and see all sorts of friends and family. There's also one of my close childhood friends who's an engagement so, in the evening, so we took care of that. And so, kind of, she had a very busy day in that, kind of, we'd leave the house. What, 10? Well, 11, yeah, 10 to 11 we left the house. Um,

Tilly:

And then,

Dan 1:

It's from then, we're out, she's leaving the car, she goes to Bristol, she's then and then, again, get back here, have a feed, we're about, what, we're only home hour, weren't we? And then, leave again,

Tilly:

It's

Dan 1:

and that's another two, two and a half hours at least.

Tilly:

through my mind.

Dan 1:

to kind of, to help, or see my mum, that was it really.

Tilly:

four.

Dan 1:

Um, but she's happy to be held by

Tilly:

toddler.

Dan 1:

the times when we're with mum, it's not been long enough her to finish what she was doing before. Like, she often is in the middle of cooking and by the time, kind of, we're actually finished with food and had dinner, it's like, well, we've got to go in 15 minutes, or it holds over, instead of it kind of being like, so I think, yeah.

Tilly:

It's broken my heart.

Dan 1:

So that's probably my high, because It's quite nice to be, you know, that can still kind of have a, life. You just need to bring an apple bag with you And and, and the boob machine.

Tilly:

So I put her on my lap, her on my

Dan 1:

I don't think smacking the mic around now, um, and then I think my. My funny was, um, Friday, Friday evening, I was, she's, she's she's started trying to sit up now. Um, and she like rockets herself up, she's also started dribbling quite a bit. And so, stuff that I usually do, she's Just drooling, and so I was holding her above my head, and I'm just drooling, so I tried to get her to, to drool, and I told you that we were going for a kiss,

Tilly:

that

Dan 1:

and tried to get the little baby Zoe to drool on you now,

Tilly:

pulled

Dan 1:

her down. for

Tilly:

Pulled it.

Dan 1:

small

Tilly:

should work.

Dan 1:

you and drool on so that's my funny

Tilly:

something wrong. Yeah. There

Dan 1:

drool attack, there was something else that was funny, What was that? I can't remember it now. Yeah, yeah, that was nice. What were we laughing at? There was some Sometimes she does

Tilly:

I'm a caring parent, but love my crybaby.

Dan 1:

some very odd cry.

Tilly:

Sometimes she, I feel like she's not really

Dan 1:

No, no, I think she's getting to that point now. Where Sometimes she's crying somewhat for attention. Obviously that doesn't mean I don't check she's alright. You can see the way sometimes she cries. She sometimes doesn't, it's not even like a crying noise, if you know what I mean. It's her trying to imitate the noise that she makes when she cries. They'll just hear a, wah, no that's not it, and then eventually when she realizes she's not, eventually she'll be like, wah, there

Tilly:

Give me a real cry, come on.

Dan 1:

what it was,

Tilly:

Fake crying. yeah, I mean, I like our little lead time together, it's nice, isn't it? Or, very occasionally, we read. I know what was funny, actually, this week, talking about this actually, I was changing her nappy, and I was just, you know, wiping it all up, and she trapped my finger in her nappy, so I was wiping it through, and she sort of did a stretching cleanse, just so my finger

Dan 1:

Loves to do the stretch during the nappy. change, she's now started also, she's really not in the mood for it. Trying to rig a lot.

Tilly:

she moves, she moves quite a lot.

Dan 1:

Yeah, because she'll put underneath her, like at the sole of her foot, down by her butt and propel

Tilly:

she's really cruel, she'll slam

Dan 1:

Yeah. Um.

Tilly:

It's just we have a little helmet so she doesn't, like, rock her head into things. 3, night,

Dan 1:

love, I guess,

Tilly:

to

Dan 1:

Friday night, tempting to take her for the night, and then not really manage it. I thought I did a lot better than I had. Um, so, uh, baby Zoe sleeps in bed with us, because, um, well, you're breastfeeding, and so it means that you try and she'll fall asleep, and then once you wake, feeding, you feed her. So we're not

Tilly:

you're waiting for a changeover plan, which you're so sorry for, because it's not easy. You

Dan 1:

all the sleep. She often needs to be on her body. I wanted her, to do it with me so that you could get some, some comfortable

Tilly:

then Brian

Dan 1:

having full sleep, like sat up in bed or something weird

Tilly:

a bit of a bummer. That's alright. You've

Dan 1:

quick to fall asleep. And

Tilly:

take her

Dan 1:

Zoe wasn't, but I kept asking out should I and Edward sleep in. So eventually you just had to take her off me, didn't you? Which didn't, didn't last very which is, so, sorry about that.

Tilly:

so. Yep.

Dan 1:

that'll be an interesting one. So, just go and I'll have a, I'll just go sleep in the armchair. That way last good night's sleep. Do you want me

Tilly:

really nice.

Dan 1:

of these

Tilly:

you want me to just give it

Dan 1:

I guess, Like, I said, you can just ring me and I

Tilly:

Yeah, actually if my boobs are tight

Dan 1:

Okay, now for a quick word from our sponsors. Ha! No, I'm kidding. We don't have any sponsors. But if you were to leave us some five star reviews, and maybe some lovely words, we might do. Fuck me, that was desperate. Snapchat. Do we have any?

Tilly:

this with the, what, oh she just kept doing a poo, we changed it, she did like another poo, you change it, did like another poo, change it, another poo, she did three poos in a row. I was just like, her to sleep in bed, she kept doing poos. It's not

Dan 1:

Might have been.

Tilly:

really something that interesting, I thought, filly up my pass. But it of poos. I used do.

Dan 1:

so. It's really a bummer.

Tilly:

Bar,

Dan 1:

oh!

Tilly:

Maybe join in with a bit of that.

Dan 1:

I had

Tilly:

might as well do a quick sketch, yeah? Okay, go, go, go! So, catch

Dan 1:

SketchUp wise, my youngest trouble bit when transitioning to formula and would need assistance moving things along. We would do bicycle legs and a well known. I love you tummy math part Until enough of the firm movement would engage,

Tilly:

I was just

Dan 1:

in gently wiggling it out.

Tilly:

and one afternoon, I

Dan 1:

I only needed a slight

Tilly:

that

Dan 1:

and it launched out. like a rocket, flying literally about 6 inches away, followed by a bucket's worth of soft serve.

Tilly:

I let it run its

Dan 1:

course,

Tilly:

clear in the bathroom, and had Daddy keep on it, changing

Dan 1:

table cover off and straight

Tilly:

the dumpster.

Dan 1:

thought you were

Tilly:

I just clean it? People are so funny. It's just poo. So that

Dan 1:

So that was, that was a lady, that was a baby girl, this is a Dora, here's one. When my daughter, three days old, had just gone home.

Tilly:

of work

Dan 1:

blowout. We didn't know how to cut the dirty onesie off, so

Tilly:

home. I'm at We change the

Dan 1:

and got her all me, since I was holding her during the blowout, and put all

Tilly:

we sit in

Dan 1:

things in a bag.

Tilly:

sit all over

Dan 1:

realize that the dog had gotten into the poop bag and dragged it all over the

Tilly:

Oh, and like, Newborn baby poos are really like, thick stuff, isn't it? Do you ever try to

Dan 1:

and dog's breath is to hold smells

Tilly:

set apart? Yeah,

Dan 1:

incubate

Tilly:

Interesting. Okay.

Dan 1:

smells for so long. so, here's something funny I found something quite entertaining on Reddit that I thought you'd like.

Tilly:

yeah?

Dan 1:

There you go.

Tilly:

Baby's

Dan 1:

Restaurant Reviews. So here we go. To start, Every

Tilly:

time I do that,

Dan 1:

asleep while eating, I wake up in a different room without my clothes on. these are all
