Welcome to the
Vesna:Peak Revival Podcast.
Vesna:My name is Vena.
Vesna:Today I am gonna talk about
Vesna:the CEO's secret weapon,
Vesna:which is mental bandwidth.
Vesna:So if you are a
Vesna:business owner.
Vesna:Or a founder, or you're
Vesna:running a team or anything
Vesna:in a leadership position, you
Vesna:will understand, particularly
Vesna:in business, You may sign
Vesna:up for freedom and more
Vesna:income, but you still come
Vesna:to realize that they come
Vesna:at a cost and that cost is
Vesna:the roller coaster, right?
Vesna:That is the nature of.
Vesna:Business.
Vesna:It's very normal for it
Vesna:to be a rollercoaster.
Vesna:I don't know anyone
Vesna:who has just continuous
Vesna:ups and no downs.
Vesna:Right?
Vesna:And But I think if you're
Vesna:established in business, you
Vesna:already know that, right?
Vesna:You've already experienced
Vesna:enough of that to know
Vesna:that it's pretty normal
Vesna:for it to go up and down.
Vesna:It's how you manage
Vesna:the down times, right?
Vesna:Because this is where we
Vesna:can get in a complete.
Vesna:Tailspin, we lose our
Vesna:mental bandwidth, which
Vesna:I'm gonna talk about.
Vesna:We lose our mental
Vesna:clarity and it seems like.
Vesna:It would be very normal to be
Vesna:stressed at that time, right?
Vesna:Look at everything
Vesna:I've got going on.
Vesna:It's normal to be
Vesna:stressed, right?
Vesna:Some months are great, some
Vesna:months are not so great.
Vesna:When you have a quiet
Vesna:few months, you start
Vesna:to panic, right?
Vesna:Or maybe you've got issues
Vesna:with growing your team.
Vesna:Maybe you don't
Vesna:have the right team.
Vesna:Maybe you don't have
Vesna:enough team, though there's
Vesna:growing pain issues.
Vesna:Maybe the economy takes a
Vesna:turn and they're forecasting
Vesna:doom and gloom, and you're
Vesna:wondering, right, how am I
Vesna:gonna get through this phase?
Vesna:Right?
Vesna:And so, again, a lot of these
Vesna:things happen in business.
Vesna:It's a normal part of
Vesna:business, but the outside
Vesna:factors don't have to
Vesna:completely rattle us.
Vesna:And it's important to.
Vesna:You know, keep high bandwidth,
Vesna:and our high bandwidth is
Vesna:not impacted by what is
Vesna:happening with our team, with
Vesna:our income, with the economy.
Vesna:Or whatever the
Vesna:problem is, right?
Vesna:So let me talk about
Vesna:what bandwidth is.
Vesna:I did talk about this in a
Vesna:previous episode, but I wanna
Vesna:go into it more because I can
Vesna:see a lot of people when I
Vesna:speak to them, they're like,
Vesna:yeah, but I've got this going
Vesna:on and I've got that going on.
Vesna:Of course, I'm stressed
Vesna:and I'm not gonna deny that
Vesna:business has challenges,
Vesna:which I've already
Vesna:mentioned, but the stress
Vesna:of it is an inside job.
Vesna:It's not created
Vesna:by outside factors.
Vesna:And we can argue this
Vesna:point, but I wanna
Vesna:share some examples of
Vesna:what, how low bandwidth
Vesna:increases our stress.
Vesna:Right.
Vesna:So high stress is an
Vesna:indication of low bandwidth.
Vesna:Okay?
Vesna:It's not an indication
Vesna:of what's happening
Vesna:in your business.
Vesna:It's an indication of
Vesna:where your mental and
Vesna:emotional bandwidth is.
Vesna:When we have high bandwidth,
Vesna:we just operate differently.
Vesna:So on the days that we have
Vesna:low bandwidth, it looks like.
Vesna:Everything is urgent.
Vesna:you're driving through
Vesna:traffic and you're so
Vesna:frustrated because you've
Vesna:got no time for this.
Vesna:You know, everything seems to
Vesna:take so much longer that day.
Vesna:You are.
Vesna:Got a mental to-do list, which
Vesna:is going off in your head.
Vesna:Like, I've gotta go,
Vesna:I've gotta pick up the
Vesna:chicken on the way home.
Vesna:I've gotta go fill
Vesna:out that report.
Vesna:I've gotta respond to
Vesna:that email that I haven't
Vesna:responded to, I've gotta
Vesna:have that team meeting, or
Vesna:I've gotta pay the bills
Vesna:of whatever it is, right?
Vesna:There's a continuous
Vesna:mental to-do list going
Vesna:off in the head, and it
Vesna:just feels like you, you
Vesna:don't have enough time.
Vesna:You're running around and
Vesna:you just don't have enough
Vesna:time to get anything done.
Vesna:So that's a low bandwidth
Vesna:day, which I know that you
Vesna:will recognize, but a high
Vesna:bandwidth day looks like.
Vesna:Time has slowed down.
Vesna:Everything feels chilled,
Vesna:feels easy to do.
Vesna:It's like even though
Vesna:you're courting traffic,
Vesna:you're like, that's okay.
Vesna:I've got time.
Vesna:I'll get everything done
Vesna:that I need to get done.
Vesna:It doesn't feel so rushed.
Vesna:It doesn't feel so urgent.
Vesna:It feels a lot calmer and
Vesna:things don't bother you
Vesna:the way that they bother
Vesna:you on the other days.
Vesna:Right.
Vesna:And you'll find on
Vesna:these days that you just
Vesna:get a lot more done.
Vesna:on these high bandwidth days,
Vesna:we are really productive.
Vesna:So the difference between
Vesna:these two days is our level
Vesna:of bandwidth our mental
Vesna:and emotional, emotional
Vesna:bandwidth, not what is
Vesna:happening in our life.
Vesna:Why is this important?
Vesna:Because I didn't really
Vesna:understand bandwidth.
Vesna:In the beginning, in my
Vesna:early days of business,
Vesna:and that's this business,
Vesna:like I didn't really
Vesna:understand it before at all.
Vesna:coming into this business,
Vesna:it was a lot harder for me
Vesna:to get the online business
Vesna:going, and I stayed stuck
Vesna:for quite a number of years.
Vesna:And I was very stressed
Vesna:because, you know, I was
Vesna:running outta money and my
Vesna:mind went through all these
Vesna:worst case scenarios and I
Vesna:was very, very stressed, but
Vesna:it seemed pretty normal to be
Vesna:stressed if I wasn't stressed.
Vesna:I'd be crazy, right?
Vesna:Because I should be
Vesna:worried about these
Vesna:things because I need to
Vesna:provide for myself, right?
Vesna:I need to have an income.
Vesna:And I didn't realize then,
Vesna:what I realize now is that
Vesna:level of stress that I dialed
Vesna:up, the mental stress, right,
Vesna:was blocking my bandwidth.
Vesna:And what that meant was the
Vesna:way that I see this scenario
Vesna:is that it kept me stuck
Vesna:in my business and where
Vesna:I was at in my business.
Vesna:Which is nowhere.
Vesna:It kept me stuck for a
Vesna:very long time, right?
Vesna:But I didn't
Vesna:understand bandwidth.
Vesna:I didn't understand that
Vesna:all that mental stress that
Vesna:I was going through was
Vesna:actually blocking my ability
Vesna:to solve the problem in
Vesna:my business and get it to
Vesna:grow and get it to scale.
Vesna:So even when I have a
Vesna:problem now, when something
Vesna:goes wrong, I can see that
Vesna:if I catastrophize that
Vesna:problem, then it just like
Vesna:eliminates my bandwidth.
Vesna:can you see this as I'm
Vesna:talking about it, right?
Vesna:Because I know that you
Vesna:would've experienced our, our
Vesna:mental stress and the noise
Vesna:and the worry and the concern
Vesna:has this ability to just shut
Vesna:down our bandwidth or minimize
Vesna:our bandwidth so much.
Vesna:And then the problem becomes
Vesna:so big and we dunno how
Vesna:to find our way out of it.
Vesna:And we can get stuck
Vesna:in this mental loop all
Vesna:day long or week long.
Vesna:And it's not until we
Vesna:regain our bandwidth that
Vesna:we'll know what to do.
Vesna:our mental clarity in our
Vesna:bandwidth will give us
Vesna:solutions that we need.
Vesna:The other example The other
Vesna:example that I use is, um,
Vesna:you know, the show Master
Vesna:Chef in Master Chef, you
Vesna:know, everyone gets like the
Vesna:same list of ingredients and
Vesna:they're told to make whatever
Vesna:they need to make right, or
Vesna:to make something out of it.
Vesna:And so there's like
Vesna:six ingredients.
Vesna:Everyone gets it and they're
Vesna:like, some people are they
Vesna:just go to pieces, right?
Vesna:They are just freaking out.
Vesna:They're looking at the list.
Vesna:Their mind is just like, you
Vesna:know, million barrels an hour.
Vesna:They look like headless
Vesna:chickens running around.
Vesna:They're losing control.
Vesna:They don't have it together.
Vesna:Right?
Vesna:And then other people have
Vesna:the exact same list in
Vesna:under the same pressure.
Vesna:Got the same scenario going
Vesna:on in the same environment yet
Vesna:they look at the list and you
Vesna:can see that they're looking
Vesna:at it quite calculated.
Vesna:They're like, Hmm, hmm,
Vesna:yes, I can do this.
Vesna:We can do this.
Vesna:And you could see their
Vesna:mind processing it right
Vesna:in a very different way.
Vesna:They don't look that stressed.
Vesna:They don't look like
Vesna:they're out of control now.
Vesna:That task is exactly the same.
Vesna:The pressure of that
Vesna:environment is exactly
Vesna:the same, yet the outcome
Vesna:between different people
Vesna:was different, and that
Vesna:comes down to bandwidth.
Vesna:Now, as you can imagine in
Vesna:your business, that would
Vesna:be really important to not
Vesna:have those times when we
Vesna:lose bandwidth, when our
Vesna:mind just spins so outta
Vesna:control that we can't put a
Vesna:proper thought together to
Vesna:think about what to do next.
Vesna:Like we get stressed
Vesna:immediately, and maybe
Vesna:you don't catastrophize,
Vesna:but you get stressed.
Vesna:And you can't find
Vesna:a solution, right?
Vesna:It just stuck,
Vesna:stuck on a loop.
Vesna:And you could find it that,
Vesna:you know, you come home, you
Vesna:talk to your partner about it
Vesna:and you know you need a glass
Vesna:of wine or something, and
Vesna:your partner's not really that
Vesna:concerned and you're like,
Vesna:stuck in this loop and you're
Vesna:talking about it, whatever
Vesna:it is, like, however that
Vesna:looks for you, but you're not
Vesna:able to switch off from it.
Vesna:Do you know, I remember, um,
Vesna:having a client once who said.
Vesna:At night when I'm in bed
Vesna:is the only time that I
Vesna:can really think about what
Vesna:I need to do and resolve
Vesna:the issues in my work.
Vesna:I was like, wow, what a crazy
Vesna:time to, to do that, right?
Vesna:You need to get sleep.
Vesna:And, until she could see that
Vesna:she wasn't actually resolving
Vesna:anything, she was just
Vesna:keeping herself up at night.
Vesna:but that was also robbing her
Vesna:of her bandwidth the next day.
Vesna:And so our bandwidth is.
Vesna:elevated or decreased through
Vesna:different things, right?
Vesna:So we need to take
Vesna:care of ourselves.
Vesna:We need to take care of
Vesna:our energy, our mental
Vesna:wellbeing, our physical
Vesna:wi wellbeing, all of that.
Vesna:So nutrition plays a key part.
Vesna:Sleep also has a massive
Vesna:impact, you know, um,
Vesna:supplementation and
Vesna:all that kind of stuff.
Vesna:But the biggest interference
Vesna:to our bandwidth is our worry.
Vesna:Is our overthinking, is
Vesna:our negative thinking
Vesna:is our catastrophizing.
Vesna:So all that mental noise
Vesna:lowers our bandwidth.
Vesna:And when our bandwidth drops,
Vesna:we're in no place to resolve
Vesna:the issue that we have.
Vesna:We're in no place to
Vesna:grow our business or
Vesna:scale our business.
Vesna:We're in no place to
Vesna:figure out what our team
Vesna:needs or how to resolve
Vesna:an issue in the business.
Vesna:We don't have that
Vesna:capacity anymore.
Vesna:It's completely diminished.
Vesna:And the irony is,
Vesna:is that we worry.
Vesna:Because we think that we're
Vesna:going to find a solution,
Vesna:but it does the opposite.
Vesna:Okay?
Vesna:So the more that we spin in
Vesna:our mind, the less ability
Vesna:we have to find the solution.
Vesna:So what I'd love for you to
Vesna:take away from this podcast
Vesna:is that bandwidth is a game
Vesna:changer in our business.
Vesna:And we can have access to
Vesna:more bandwidth, which is our
Vesna:natural state when we let go.
Vesna:A lot of that noise that we
Vesna:carry around in our head,
Vesna:if you can just see that the
Vesna:days that you have higher
Vesna:mental bandwidth, that you get
Vesna:a lot more done compared to
Vesna:the days that you don't and
Vesna:the days that you don't like.
Vesna:You just gotta kind
Vesna:of say like, I just
Vesna:don't have it today.
Vesna:Right?
Vesna:There's no point trying
Vesna:to overthink stuff to
Vesna:try and create bandwidth
Vesna:that does the opposite.
Vesna:But if you can see that
Vesna:you're gonna value the
Vesna:high bandwidth days, you're
Vesna:not gonna spend so much
Vesna:time replaying and getting
Vesna:yourself stuck in a loop of
Vesna:negative thinking and worry.
Vesna:So let me know in
Vesna:the comments below.
Vesna:If you see the
Vesna:comments, let me know.
Vesna:Have you experienced those
Vesna:days of high and low mental
Vesna:bandwidth and what have
Vesna:you seen as a difference
Vesna:in your business on the
Vesna:high bandwidth days?
Vesna:Do you get more done?
Vesna:Do you, you know, have time
Vesna:for a laugh with your team?
Vesna:And do you feel like
Vesna:it just changes the
Vesna:energy in your business?
Vesna:Like what have you noticed
Vesna:in the high bandwidth days
Vesna:and do you notice on the low
Vesna:bandwidth days that there is a
Vesna:lot of mental noise going on?
Vesna:Any one of those, I know I've
Vesna:given you a few comments there
Vesna:to respond to, but let me
Vesna:know in the comments below.
