So let's get into our reading today from The Epistle of First John 2:1:6 Reading from the Message I write this, dear children, to guide you out of sin.

But if anyone does sin, we have a priest friend in the presence of the Father, Jesus Christ, Righteous Jesus.

When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good.

Not only ours, but the whole world's.

The only way to know we're in Him.

Here's how we can be sure that we know God in the right way.

Keep his commandments if someone claims I know him well, but doesn't keep his commandments, he obviously is a liar.

His life doesn't match his words.

But the one who keeps God's word is the person in whom we see God's mature love.

This is the only way to be sure we're in God.

Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived.

We're talking here about walking in love.

And as we reflect here in this reading from the Epistle 1 John 2:1:6, we just need to explore what it means to truly know God and the way of Jesus, even in our modern context.

So let's look at some points to ponder.

We'll talk about going beyond shame and guilt.

The author here an epistle is a letter.

It begins by addressing the reality of human imperfection, not to shame us, but to remind us of divine love and support.

Jesus is described as our priest friend, which emphasizes a relationship over judgment.

This speaks to a God who stands with us, not against us, in our journey of growth and healing.

Let's also talk about another point about collective liberation.

The text speaks of Jesus solving the whole world's sin problem, not just individualistic salvation.

This points to a cosmic understanding of a divine God centered love that transcends our individual problems or pietism and calls us to work for a collective healing and justice for the whole world.

One more point.

It's about living authentication.

This passage challenges us to authenticate our faith through action, not mere words.

This isn't about perfect rule following, but rather about aligning our lives with Jesus example of radical love, inclusion and justice how do our lives reflect the compassion and boundary breaking ministry of Jesus?

Here's your reaction step for today.

Identify an area in your life where your actions might not align with your stated values, perhaps in how we treat others, your engagement with social justice or your care for creation.

Choose one concrete step to bring your walk more in line with your talk.

This might mean reaching out to someone you've excluded, educating yourself about a justice issue or changing a habit that impacts others negatively.
