Speaker:

Welcome everyone to our latest episode.

Speaker:

We're absolutely thrilled to have you here.

Speaker:

And we are thrilled to have a lovely lady here.

Speaker:

Her name is Claire Hill.

Speaker:

Her company is the Vivid Business Club, and she's going to tell

Speaker:

us a little bit about it.

Speaker:

So welcome to the show, Claire.

Speaker:

Thank you so much for having me, Kirsten and Janie.

Speaker:

I'm very pleased to be here.

Speaker:

Tell us about how did you start your business?

Speaker:

Let's start there.

Speaker:

I always like learning people's journey into business.

Speaker:

I started another business which was art based, grew that, scaled it,

Speaker:

and then I became a business coach.

Speaker:

And what I do now is support business owners with a warrior spirit to support

Speaker:

them to believe it's possible for them.

Speaker:

Do you work with a lot of brand new businesses or do you work with

Speaker:

more like established businesses?

Speaker:

It's a mixture.

Speaker:

I used to work predominantly with startups and as well as people

Speaker:

that were maybe in the first year.

Speaker:

I've obviously developed the coaching and the membership, the very business club.

Speaker:

I am getting more established businesses coming in that want

Speaker:

a little bit more of a shake up.

Speaker:

When I meet business owners there, that's usually what we're going through,

Speaker:

as well as sorting the foundations.

Speaker:

And I'm sure both of you and your listeners will understand.

Speaker:

You sometimes you're not ready to scale because those

Speaker:

fundamental things are not there.

Speaker:

Potentially you grew too quickly in the beginning.

Speaker:

You didn't have the time to put all of those foundations in.

Speaker:

Through my own story that part of my business I had to burn to the ground

Speaker:

and then build back up properly because it just wasn't ready for me to grow.

Speaker:

It really is the mindset stuff that often causes us to not be productive.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

Yes, that because I feel like we all self sabotage and we all we drag things

Speaker:

out or we put things off or we get them halfway done or 80 percent or 90

Speaker:

percent done go off to do something else.

Speaker:

How do you help people become productive?

Speaker:

Especially around their mindset of not procrastinating.

Speaker:

Basically, if you're really feeling a lot of doubt and you don't feel that it's

Speaker:

possible for you, or you're presented with a task that you know is really needs to

Speaker:

be done, but you're avoiding it because it feels too uncomfortable or too difficult,

Speaker:

you're going to start procrastination.

Speaker:

That procrastination begins because of your fear of the discomfort.

Speaker:

Your, the, the amount of pain that you are willing for to go through and

Speaker:

discomfort to get to the other side, um, as well as not feeling like you're

Speaker:

worthy of the success on the other side of it, when you look at those things,

Speaker:

when I started, my journey of mindset has been quite a challenging one.

Speaker:

My doubt was rooted in all three of those, so I didn't feel worthy for the success.

Speaker:

I didn't feel worthy for the joy that my business broke, brought me, but I felt

Speaker:

like an imposter 'cause I didn't know.

Speaker:

What I didn't know I was creating this art.

Speaker:

I was really scared of the success because of what would that money change for me

Speaker:

and my family and how people viewed me.

Speaker:

It was about adjusting that identity that I had for myself into this new one

Speaker:

that was a successful version of myself.

Speaker:

Then that impacts your self trust.

Speaker:

So self trust is a really important part of self belief.

Speaker:

If you have a to do list and you're not completing that to do list, Your

Speaker:

doubt is saying you believe you want to achieve these big things, but you

Speaker:

can't even complete a to do list.

Speaker:

It doesn't really matter if you don't have a proper list builder set up,

Speaker:

if you've got an online business, and it doesn't really matter if your SEO

Speaker:

isn't really good because you swing it a little bit on social media,

Speaker:

your self trust starts to decrease.

Speaker:

which automatically affects your self belief.

Speaker:

Now, the way I see self belief is all in tune with your heart and

Speaker:

your instincts, I believe is so much more powerful than the doubt.

Speaker:

We have to make space to feel it.

Speaker:

And I feel like doubt has got really sharp elbows trying to get to the front

Speaker:

of the crowd and is shouting the loudest.

Speaker:

Your self belief is impacted because your self trust is impacted in this A

Speaker:

constant loop that if you don't become aware of why you're procrastinating

Speaker:

and your doubt, it's complete self sabotage because you are completely

Speaker:

in control, but it does take courage.

Speaker:

And I think it's that point.

Speaker:

What tips do you give people to push them out of that bed right away and not

Speaker:

procrastinate on things that they are?

Speaker:

Consistently procrastinating on if you would really like to break that cycle.

Speaker:

The 1st day is always the worst.

Speaker:

There are that 1st day, but I sometimes just stand up and I'll be like, with my

Speaker:

eyes close or swaying no negotiation.

Speaker:

Look after your future self.

Speaker:

I just focus on.

Speaker:

What do I want most?

Speaker:

I want to have feel energized in the morning.

Speaker:

I want to feel really motivated and I want to feel really good with my mindset.

Speaker:

I want to have the energy to go forward and do the stuff that I want to do if

Speaker:

we can visualize who that person is.

Speaker:

We want to be And visualize it now.

Speaker:

It might affect the decisions that we make.

Speaker:

The important stuff is making sure that my business is served first.

Speaker:

Then I have all of the extra energy to serve theirs.

Speaker:

I am only worthy of the success I dream of.

Speaker:

We have to know that's what we want most instead of what we want right now.

Speaker:

And we can't get there unless we do that work and do the important stuff first.

Speaker:

Another tip that I love to teach is about the 1 percent factor.

Speaker:

If it's a really big job and our doubt is saying I want to

Speaker:

procrastinate, we don't want to do this.

Speaker:

This is too tough.

Speaker:

It's really boring.

Speaker:

I don't want to do it.

Speaker:

Let's go and clean the house.

Speaker:

The house always gets clean, doesn't it?

Speaker:

When we're trying to avoid something and you get, sometimes I've

Speaker:

gone, I'm going to go for a run.

Speaker:

I never run.

Speaker:

I would rather work than clean.

Speaker:

So it would have to be something very much that I didn't want to do.

Speaker:

That is the same as me.

Speaker:

That's it, Kirsten.

Speaker:

That is, that's how much I will procrastinate.

Speaker:

And this is the thing why all my tools work, because I'm

Speaker:

the queen of procrastination.

Speaker:

I will avoid everything.

Speaker:

It takes more energy to get something started in movement

Speaker:

than it does while it's in motion.

Speaker:

So if we just do two minutes, we say to our brains, We're just going

Speaker:

to do two minutes of this really tough job that we are avoiding.

Speaker:

We're just going to do two minutes.

Speaker:

Once those two minutes are up, it's very rare that you will then

Speaker:

become, start procrastinating again.

Speaker:

Because when you're proposing to yourself, Oh, I'm only going to

Speaker:

do, I'm going to do two minutes.

Speaker:

You've got started and then the excitement of I'm doing the big thing.

Speaker:

I'm doing the thing that I've been avoiding.

Speaker:

Oh my goodness.

Speaker:

And then you start feeling that reward and you get to the end of the task.

Speaker:

You've got all of that dopamine.

Speaker:

You feel really proud of yourself.

Speaker:

The self trust has gone up because you said you were going to do it.

Speaker:

And you did it.

Speaker:

Therefore, you believe in yourself more.

Speaker:

And the next day that doubt isn't so loud.

Speaker:

You can get that tough stuff done because you're tough.

Speaker:

Amazing.

Speaker:

All the stuff that we have to it's all an internal battle, right?

Speaker:

Is it business?

Speaker:

Yeah, we're all so excited and passionate about what we do, and we love

Speaker:

helping others, but there are so many.

Speaker:

Things that go into running a business, and it's so easy to just feel overwhelmed,

Speaker:

like you said, the imposter syndrome and just the doubt and the fear pops up.

Speaker:

Like, who am I to build a multi million dollar business?

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

So it's interesting that you provide all these amazing tools just to help people

Speaker:

get going and every little thing builds on the next building their confidence to

Speaker:

move into or step into our future selves.

Speaker:

Yeah, I'd love to share my, my, my favorite tool.

Speaker:

This is literally my journey today.

Speaker:

My husband's not been very well, and it's one of those things where my

Speaker:

time is so expertly planned and I sometimes don't have enough wiggle

Speaker:

room, like white space is just.

Speaker:

So he's been poorly and I've had to juggle a few extra things to make sure

Speaker:

he's all right because he's actually needed looking after and then because

Speaker:

of that I haven't done my usual routine and then today I had client meetings and

Speaker:

I was doing this and it was all great and then I felt like a floating plastic

Speaker:

bag and I always use this metaphor of something that's just not anchored it's

Speaker:

just got So Doesn't know what it's doing.

Speaker:

It's just all scattered floating around.

Speaker:

So this formula, I call it the kickstart formula and anybody that wants it,

Speaker:

all you have to do is go to clarehill.

Speaker:

uk slash kickstart and it's completely free and it is and what

Speaker:

I've done is I've created a video, a resource and a podcast episode.

Speaker:

So then it's only about three minutes but you can apply it to

Speaker:

the beginning of every single day.

Speaker:

So it becomes a habit.

Speaker:

So what I did was I sat down and this is what the formula is.

Speaker:

I sat down and brain dumped and wrote down everything in my head that's

Speaker:

possible that I could be thinking of.

Speaker:

So that's to do with the food shopping, the meals, my little boy.

Speaker:

The, my pets, the, it's my mother in law's birthday tomorrow and sorting that out.

Speaker:

So I had to write that, all that down.

Speaker:

Then there was my client work.

Speaker:

So I was looking through my calendar, checking the notes.

Speaker:

So going through notes with my clients, was there anything

Speaker:

that I've promised to deliver to send to them that I haven't yet?

Speaker:

And just went through everything.

Speaker:

I ended up with two pages full of tasks and straight away

Speaker:

that feels so overwhelming.

Speaker:

How can I, and as I was writing.

Speaker:

How am I going to get all this done?

Speaker:

This is so much.

Speaker:

Then I actually looked at the list.

Speaker:

I grabbed my pink highlighter.

Speaker:

I highlighted everything that was important to my business and my well

Speaker:

being that had to be done today.

Speaker:

I thought in my head, my day today is a little bit later, so

Speaker:

I can get a little bit more done.

Speaker:

What must be done, the stuff that is going to make me feel good, feel

Speaker:

accomplished, but also is supporting if I need to supporting my clients

Speaker:

or my family, whether I can even show you actually this is video, isn't it?

Speaker:

So this is the whole list, but you can see just the pink and all of a

Speaker:

sudden when you have to do the pink.

Speaker:

Okay, then I looked at the list, which was the task on that list

Speaker:

that I didn't want to do the most.

Speaker:

Which was the worst and I put a number one next to it Then I ordered all of

Speaker:

the others from I think I've gone up to 10 or something 1 to 10 and then

Speaker:

I started with 1 I did that number 1 crossed it off Then I went to number 2.

Speaker:

The beauty of the kickstart formula is when you're Prioritizing according

Speaker:

to what is important, not urgent to you have clarity in your brain

Speaker:

because you've spilled everything you're trying to remember onto paper.

Speaker:

There's not that energy you're spending trying to remember everything

Speaker:

and three when we order things and we're going in that specific order.

Speaker:

If, for example, you get a phone call or there is a text message or

Speaker:

something derails the day you don't have to waste energy sitting down.

Speaker:

Where was I?

Speaker:

What was I doing?

Speaker:

I can't remember.

Speaker:

You all have already built that framework for yourself to go.

Speaker:

Ah, I've done number one.

Speaker:

Number two is next.

Speaker:

So I've written a whole book about the kickstart formula now because it's

Speaker:

all about the doubt, procrastination and all of the things that go into it

Speaker:

and why it's so effective as a tool.

Speaker:

I've done the kickstart formula, right?

Speaker:

Sit down and then just the boost of motivation that you get from doing it

Speaker:

because before and I literally sat down.

Speaker:

An hour before we met thinking, I have so much to do.

Speaker:

I've only got an hour.

Speaker:

And I was like, I've got an hour.

Speaker:

I can make these really impactive and effective hours.

Speaker:

It's funny.

Speaker:

I'm like, I can't wait to get off this interview so I can write my list.

Speaker:

So cathartic.

Speaker:

It's amazing.

Speaker:

The brain numbing exercise is so fabulous because sometimes you just

Speaker:

need to get it out of your head.

Speaker:

But then like you said, you look at it and you go, Oh my God, where do I start?

Speaker:

So I love this.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's so effective, especially when some of my clients have got ADHD,

Speaker:

and they really struggle to know how to pick back up when they get distracted.

Speaker:

So if you do get procrastinate by accident, at least you're

Speaker:

like, Oh, okay, what was I doing?

Speaker:

You're not thinking having that brainpower to start again and

Speaker:

wonder where you need to start.

Speaker:

You've already done that work.

Speaker:

But this is.

Speaker:

It's quite extensive because I haven't done it yesterday.

Speaker:

And this is why I was really not feeling anchored to the day.

Speaker:

But some days it's quite a short list.

Speaker:

So it can literally be the first five minutes of every day.

Speaker:

And the power it has to go through the whole day is really amazing.

Speaker:

You are full of so many amazing productivity tips.

Speaker:

We're so grateful to have you.

Speaker:

So tell people again where they can get this kickstart formula.

Speaker:

So they go to www.

Speaker:

clarehill.

Speaker:

uk slash kickstart.

Speaker:

Perfect.

Speaker:

So we will make sure that we put that in the show notes.

Speaker:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Absolutely.

Speaker:

So tell people how they can get a hold of you if they want to work with you.

Speaker:

So I am everywhere, but I love Instagram is my favorite, but

Speaker:

I am on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Speaker:

And all you have to do is search for I am Claire Hill, all one word, and I pop up.

Speaker:

That's my tag, the handle, that's my handle.

Speaker:

Everywhere, or you can go to clarehill.

Speaker:

uk and everything's there too.

Speaker:

I've got loads of free trainings about DAO and a productivity masterclass as well.

Speaker:

We're going to a bit more depth about different tips and tricks and

Speaker:

also in a lot of debt about why DAO impacts procrastination as well.

Speaker:

And if I'm not mistaken, you have a podcast as well.

Speaker:

I do.

Speaker:

I had the wonderful Kirsten on.

Speaker:

My podcast is called No Rest for the Vivid, and it's all about those stories

Speaker:

of the messy middle, the bits where I don't, as entrepreneurs, I think

Speaker:

sometimes we feel We're inadequate if we doubt ourselves or we haven't got that

Speaker:

confidence, but it's actually normal.

Speaker:

It's a good sign when we have that fear and then we just

Speaker:

need that courage to face it.

Speaker:

And so my podcast shares those stories and gives all of the tips and I'll go

Speaker:

into a lot of detail about productivity and mindset on that one as well.

Speaker:

I could listen to productivity tips all day long.

Speaker:

Now I just need to implement them.

Speaker:

But Claire, it's been such a pleasure to get to know you and to

Speaker:

hear all of your productivity tips.
