about what you're up to.

your booth down there.

Speaker:- Yeah, you're blessed,

Speaker:- and you work your butt off.
Speaker:- Yeah.
- Yeah.
Speaker:- Yeah, what'd they say about luck?
Speaker:It's something about when
hard work meets opportunity
Speaker:or something like that,
Speaker:you make your own luck.
Speaker:- Make your own luck, I mean,
Speaker:like I said, thank God.
Speaker:You know, you put in...
Speaker:You know, you put in the hours,
Speaker:you put in the work
Speaker:and you kinda let it be
Speaker:and, you know, whatever happens, happens,
Speaker:right, in life and-

Speaker:to put into non-traditional
places like liquor stores,
Speaker:golf courses, what have you.
Speaker:Is that fair?
Speaker:- That's right.
- Yeah,
Speaker:so he has this idea,
Speaker:he comes in with his scratch
pad and all his stuff,
Speaker:he's hanging out at the show.
Speaker:And we were fortunate to be in your way
Speaker:and you told us about your idea,
Speaker:and we were really blessed to be involved.
Speaker:And so, that whole category
Speaker:in your business has taken off.
Speaker:I think, in talking to you a few times
Speaker:I've seen you in the last year,
Speaker:it's exceeded your expectations,
Speaker:it continues to grow.

Speaker:And your latest brainchild.
Speaker:I was laughing so hard
Speaker:when you came over and stood on the box,
Speaker:or you had the big guy.
Speaker:- That's right, Alan.
- Yeah, he just gave me a hug.
Speaker:I went down there.
Speaker:You had just a giant human being
Speaker:standing on this humidor.
Speaker:Tell the story about this
Speaker:and how you came up with it.
Speaker:- Essentially, with the original concept
Speaker:with Cigar Brothers,
Speaker:we set out to simplify freshness.
Speaker:That freshness should be automatic,
Speaker:it should be included.
Speaker:If you go into a retail store
Speaker:and it used to be,
Speaker:you know, you walk into any shop
Speaker:and you question whether
or not a cigar's fresh,
Speaker:and you're pinching at it, and...
Speaker:And so, when we tried
Speaker:to go into non-traditional retailers,
Speaker:the first step was how do you make sure
Speaker:that freshness is never a question.
Speaker:And we think we accomplished that.
Speaker:Our units are climate
controlled, they're in tubes.
Speaker:And rest assured you reach
into any of our humidors,
Speaker:you know you're getting a fresh stick.
Speaker:And so we're doing that
Speaker:and thank God we're in 37 states,
Speaker:we're in about 1,300 locations now,
Speaker:a bunch of customers waiting.
Speaker:And we're just trying
Speaker:to keep up,
- Fantastic.
Speaker:- We're trying to catch up.
Speaker:And so, that's doing its thing.
Speaker:The evolution to that
Speaker:became for the customer
Speaker:that wants to take cigars home.
Speaker:And that's a whole 'nother world of maybe,
Speaker:you know, questionable, maybe, traditions
Speaker:with keeping cigars fresh at home.
Speaker:And there's a lot of
misconceptions with cigars.
Speaker:And there's a lot of
automatic set of rules
Speaker:that everyone thinks that
they need to abide by
Speaker:or they should, because of what's...
Speaker:You know, you have to have a...
Speaker:You have to have a humidor
Speaker:before you can have your
first box of cigars at home.
Speaker:You have to season your
humidor and all that.
Speaker:And which is a,
Speaker:it's all fine, it's all beautiful.
Speaker:It's a beautiful industry.
Speaker:But there's a learning curve,
Speaker:and there is kinda that barrier for,
Speaker:I would say the majority of America
Speaker:that maybe wants to,
Speaker:you know, jump into the world of cigars,
Speaker:just doesn't know how or
doesn't have the time.
Speaker:And so, I developed
Speaker:the first prototype.
Speaker:And we launched this last PCA,
Speaker:and it's a, essentially a
humidor made out of EPP,
Speaker:highly durable, super lightweight,
Speaker:includes a Boveda, airtight, waterproof,
Speaker:and you know it's fresh.
Speaker:You keep cigars in there
Speaker:and a single pack is good for over a year.
Speaker:And freshness is never a question,
Speaker:especially if you reach in the humidor
Speaker:and that Boveda pouch is soft
Speaker:it's done, there's your answer.
Speaker:No question about it,
Speaker:your cigars are fresh.
Speaker:And so, we had a really,
really good response to that.
Speaker:- So this was first
- And-
Speaker:This was first.
Speaker:And then the evolution to
that became number of sizes.
Speaker:- Okay.
- So now that one holds 80,
Speaker:we brought it down to one that holds 5
Speaker:one that holds 10, 20, and 30.
Speaker:And they all kind of,
Speaker:depending on if you're on the go,
Speaker:if you wanna have a variety of cigars
Speaker:and maybe a cutter and a lighter,
Speaker:maybe get the size 10.
Speaker:And so, these all launch May 1st
Speaker:and we're taking pre-orders today.
Speaker:But in this
Speaker:and in what we do,
Speaker:essentially we're not really
in the humidor business,
Speaker:we're in the cigar business.
Speaker:And we try to develop
Speaker:the right humidor
Speaker:for the right customer.
Speaker:And so, this evolved
to our collaborations.
Speaker:And here's one we did with Oliva.

Speaker:- Maybe four weeks ago
Speaker:we started the collaborations.

Speaker:Yeah.

Speaker:to $250 depending on the brand.
Speaker:So-
- And that's with cigars

Speaker:- So this without cigars...
Speaker:- That's 50 bucks.
Speaker:- 50 bucks?
- Yeah, exactly right.
Speaker:- And it's durable.
Speaker:- Absolutely, yep.
- Yeah, I mean,
Speaker:it is super convenient.
Speaker:You can stand on it.
Speaker:- Yep, so, matter of fact,
Speaker:this is our shipping
box as well as a humidor
Speaker:because it can take
damage, super lightweight.

Speaker:that corrugated, it can be a nightmare.
Speaker:- Absolutely, and then what happens
Speaker:if it's sitting outside
for a couple of days
Speaker:and you just, you weren't home.
Speaker:- Well, and this is also insulated.
Speaker:- Exactly right, so you
can leave this bad boy
Speaker:out for weeks.
Speaker:- Even in Minnesota?
- The-
Speaker:Probably.
- Maybe.
Speaker:(Drew laughs)
I don't know if I would.
Speaker:But the idea is
Speaker:on its way to you.
Speaker:- It's gonna make it safe and sound.
Speaker:- It'll make it safe.
Speaker:And then you bring it in
Speaker:and then the Boveda will
do its thing, and then...
Speaker:- So if I buy one of these,
Speaker:when I go to buy more cigars,
Speaker:do I buy the cigars from you?
Speaker:- Well, you'll buy them
from our retail partners.
Speaker:- Okay.

really in the cigar business,
Speaker:but they can be.
Speaker:- How long's that
collaboration been going on?
Speaker:- This is just in a few weeks.
Speaker:We started with one
test, which was a Romeo
Speaker:[Romeo Y Julieta] box.
Speaker:- Yeah.
- In two weeks,
Speaker:simply on their checkout,
Speaker:so when someone's buying
Speaker:their whatever they're buying
- Yeah.
Speaker:- and they're going to check out
Speaker:and they're not there for cigars,
Speaker:and then we only had
- it's like people
Speaker:that bought this also like that.
Speaker:And so you show them
Speaker:- Yep.
- This opportunity,
Speaker:- It goes good with that.
Speaker:- How successful's it been?
- And-
Speaker:It was $170 add-on for that box of Romeos.
Speaker:So they're checking out
and it recommends it.
Speaker:We were curious,
Speaker:would the customers see it, understand it?
Speaker:- It's one thing to open it
- And then-
Speaker:- and look at it,
Speaker:it's another thing to buy it.
- Yeah.
Speaker:Well, they click and buy.
Speaker:And in two weeks I
think they sold 55 boxes
Speaker:or something like that,
of just that one Romeo.
Speaker:And so, the owners of of this
website were just blown away.
Speaker:- Yeah!
Speaker:- They couldn't imagine
that they would all,
Speaker:in the matter of, you know,
Speaker:overnight being now
Speaker:in the cigar business.
- That's great.
Speaker:- Yeah, and so we're-
- Great performance.
Speaker:- Yeah, yeah.
Speaker:- What a great test.
Speaker:- Yes, we were happy with it.
Speaker:- So now you have that data
to share with other people
Speaker:when you're standing over at
your really impressive booth.
Speaker:I love the way you've
merchandised these things
Speaker:to show the story, to tell the
story about what's possible.
Speaker:You're making it easy
for people to buy cigars.
Speaker:- Absolutely, and we think what we...
Speaker:We think with this and
going into this direction
Speaker:and with a variety of sizes,
Speaker:that tomorrow's buyer
Speaker:or tomorrow's customer of cigars
Speaker:likely could be where he's got
Speaker:four or five or six of these at home
Speaker:with his favorite brands in them.
Speaker:- Yeah.
- And he's consuming them
Speaker:right out the box.
Speaker:He has one in his car, one in his office,
Speaker:and that's how he or
she enjoys their cigars
Speaker:rather than maybe a bigger humidor at home
Speaker:and then they-
- Right.
Speaker:- So it just opens it up
Speaker:to all kind of good-
- Well, you've got
Speaker:a really good seal.
Speaker:I mean, one of the things about humidors,
Speaker:I usually use a Pelican™ case,
Speaker:you know, I've got like,
- Yup.
Speaker:- a 40-count Pelican case.
Speaker:The seal on this box
Speaker:is as good as the seal on my Pelican case.
Speaker:- Yep.
Speaker:- There's a little more surface area
Speaker:than there is on the
gasket on my Pelican case,
Speaker:so I get it.
Speaker:I don't know what you call this material,
Speaker:but it's really effective
at keeping the...
Speaker:There's no leaking.
Speaker:- Yeah-
- That's a really big deal!
Speaker:Because so many wooden
humidors naturally leak.
Speaker:You know, sometimes people buy
our 72 or 75% humidity packs
Speaker:because their humidors leak
Speaker:and they live in like, Arizona
or Nevada or somewhere.
Speaker:They gotta compensate
Speaker:for the leaking in the box.
Speaker:It's a big deal, you've accomplished that.
Speaker:- We hope so.
Speaker:I think we have, I think, two things.
Speaker:One, it was important,
Speaker:you know, that I got the
stamp of approval from Boveda.
Speaker:I sent the first ones
out to Jay [Fifield] to,
Speaker:you know, test these.
- Jay.
Speaker:- Make sure that they don't-
- You love Jay, don't you?
Speaker:- I love Jay,
Speaker:that's my man, there.

Speaker:So it was tested,
Speaker:and just like, I had hoped,
Speaker:you know, it works.
Speaker:- Dude, if you're getting
that much adoption that fast
Speaker:and you've only been really doing this
Speaker:for four or five weeks,
Speaker:we gotta do this again at the next show
Speaker:and compare notes to see where this went.
Speaker:Because that's, that's
with one line, right?
Speaker:That's with one collaboration
that they did that volume.
Speaker:- Yes.

Speaker:So it's gonna be so much fun next year

we introduced that.
Speaker:- That's not even a year old.
Speaker:- Not even a year old, yeah.

Speaker:so this isn't even a year old
Speaker:and this is going well?
Speaker:- Thank God, yes.

Speaker:And then, this baby
Speaker:with the brand collaboration,
Speaker:these cigar houses are getting wise
Speaker:to making it easy for their customers
Speaker:to enjoy their cigars and know
that they're gonna be fresh.
Speaker:We couldn't be happier
for you and your success,
Speaker:it's a treat to be associated with you.
Speaker:You're one of the most stand-up guys
Speaker:I've met in the industry,

Speaker:- it's just a privilege to know you.

you're an amazing man,

to the team earlier.

Speaker:to truly try to do something
