MeatheadWouldn't that?
MeatheadWhen Thomas Edison.
MeatheadWhen did electric lighting start to be commonplace?

MeatheadOh, Washington.
JTYes.
LeanneWow.
JTYes, Wow.
MeatheadI know.
MeatheadWashington had a distillery.
MeatheadYou know, the, the, the Chicago Sun Times today had a feature on a drink that's popular around here and they say also up in Wisconsin.
MeatheadBut it's.
MeatheadIt, it came from England centuries ago called the Tom and Jerry.
MeatheadHave either you ever tasted it or heard of it?
JTYeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
MeatheadIt's got raw egg in it, but it's also.
MeatheadYou make like a batter with the raw egg, and then you add some alcohol and some seasonings and other goodies and it sounds like fun.
MeatheadI'm going to try and make some.
LeanneTom and Jerry, like from the cartoons.
LeanneIs that how it got its name?
MeatheadIt came before the cartoon.
MeatheadThe cartoon came later.
JTYeah.
JTWhat is the name of George Bailey in A Wonderful Life or It's a Wonderful Life?
JTExcuse me.
JTWhat's the name of George's guardian angel?
MeatheadOh, I know this.
LeanneI don't know.
MeatheadI.
MeatheadOh, God.

MeatheadIf I had another minute or three, I'd remember.
JTGo ahead, Clarence Oddball.
MeatheadClarence.

MeatheadGlug.
JTG L O G G L U.
MeatheadHine is the German variation Glug, which is a marvelous Swedish warm wine drink.
MeatheadAnd I have a killer recipe for GL on Amazing.com.
Meatheadi've been making glug every year for like 50 years now.
MeatheadIt's just a tradition.
MeatheadAnd each year it gets a little better and I tweak it and ages really well.
MeatheadThe grind is a, is a mulled wine.
MeatheadIt's, it's a warm wine with spices.
MeatheadIt can also have things like brandy.
MeatheadAkavit is typical in Glurg.
MeatheadBoth of them.
MeatheadGruvine and glue are related.
JTThere you go.
JTWhich spirit is traditionally added to butter and served with Christmas pudding?
JTI dug deep for some of these, man.
LeanneI would say rum.
MeatheadI, I would go along with you, too.
MeatheadRum was the, the, the drink of choice in colonial America and in Britain.
JTBrandy very close to rum.
JTI mean, they drank a lot of brandy back then, too.
JTOkay, this one I know.
JTYou know, in that.
JTGosh, in 1964, the movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
JTWhat was the name of Rudolph's elf friend?
JTThere will be a quiz on this, listeners.
LeanneI have no idea.
MeatheadI should know because this week one of the network TVs brought back the old Burl Ives version.
MeatheadNBC did like claymation.
JTYep.
MeatheadAnd I had it on in the background while we were decorating the tree.
MeatheadBut I didn't watch it closely.
MeatheadBut they brought it to life.
MeatheadIt was all.
MeatheadEvery time I saw it, it was all kind of grainy and fuzzy.
MeatheadThis was sharp as attack.
MeatheadYou could see the hairs on Rudy and I.
MeatheadIt was a very complicated story with a.
MeatheadAn abominable snowman and everything.
MeatheadI had no idea.
MeatheadBut he did.
MeatheadHe had some.
MeatheadHe had some elf buddies and I don't know their name.
JTHis best one was Hermey.

JTAll right.
MeatheadSomething tropical.
MeatheadLand.
LeanneI don't know.
LeanneI mean, they do all right in heat.
LeanneIt could be pink.
LeanneI'm gonna say Brazil.
JTThink southern.
JTSoutherly.
JTYeah, Brazil, Southernly.
MeatheadI.
MeatheadI like Brazil too.
MeatheadI'll go along with that.
JTMexico, actually.
JTOkay.
LeanneI wouldn't have expected that.
JTOkay, name the song with the following lyrics in them.
JTIt's a pair of hopalong boots and a pistol it shoots is the wish of Barney and Ben.
MeatheadYou just made that up, didn't you?
JTNo, I did not.
LeanneThat's gotta be old.
JTNot that smart.
JTI'm not that smart.
LeanneThat's gotta be old.
JTYeah, that's got to be an old.
MeatheadGene Autry or something.
JTBing Crosby.
JTThat era.
JTGene Autry.
JTThat.
LeanneOh, no.
JTIt's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
JTYep.
JTYep.
JTThe American states of Georgia, Arizona, Indiana all have towns with which that share the same Christmas related name.
JTGeorgia, Arizona, Indiana, all have towns.
MeatheadOh, oh, I know this.
JTYeah, go ahead.
MeatheadSanta Claus.
JTYep.
LeanneOh, very good.
MeatheadYeah, there's a Santa Claus in Indiana.
MeatheadAnd I guess those other states as well.
JTYeah, absolutely.
JTAll right, let me.
JTLet me get over here to the next set and then we'll.
JTWe're not going to keep everybody all day today.
JTWhich country?
JTWhich, which country?
JTI know which country had the first Christmas tree as a tradition.
JTWhich country started that tradition?
JTThere's a better way to ask that question.
LeanneAustralia.
MeatheadI'll go.
MeatheadI'll go.
MeatheadGermany.
JTGermany.
JTWinner.
JTAnd which British monarch popular popularized the tradition over there in England?
MeatheadWhat tradition?
MeatheadThe tree.
JTThe tree.
JTYeah.
MeatheadI have no clue.
LeanneMe neither.
JTOld Queen Vic and her hubby Albert.
JTYeah.
MeatheadHere in.
MeatheadI'm in the Chicago area every year around this time, maybe a week or so ago, there's a boat that sails from Michigan across Lake Michigan, loaded with Christmas trees.
MeatheadIt's the Christmas tree boat.
MeatheadAnd it's an old tradition.
MeatheadIt's been going on for like a century.
MeatheadAnd they bring the.
MeatheadThe load of Christmas trees over for poor families and underprivileged.
JTSure.
MeatheadAnd it's such a cool thing.
MeatheadThey.
MeatheadA whole boat full of spruce.
JTI love it.
JTWhat is the definition of yule?
JTU, Y, U, L, E.
JTYule.
MeatheadYou'll cook a roast on Christmas?
JTYeah, we'll cook a roast on Christmas.
JTNow, Leanne, you should know this one.
LeanneI know I should.
LeanneAnd I can't remember.
JTIt is a festival celebrated by pagans in the Germanic countries between November and January.
MeatheadWell, I'm a well known pagan and I didn't know about that.
JTWell, now you do.
JTWhich ancient civilization started the tradition of giving and receiving gifts?
MeatheadAramaic.
LeanneWho?
LeanneWhat did you say?
MeatheadAramaic.
MeatheadThat's a language.
JTYeah, yeah.
LeanneI thought you said what nation.
JTI did.
JTA civilization, basically.
LeanneOh, civilization.
JTThe Romans.
JTWhich British ruler?
JTHe was kind of.
JTHe wasn't a king or anything.
JTThat's a hint.
JTAllegedly banned mince pies in the 1600s.
JTYou got two clues there.
MeatheadIf this ruler caught you baking a mince pie, he'd break this out and whack you on the knuckles with it.
JTYep.
JTAnd see, I have one too, just like yours right here.
LeanneI wish I had one.
JTI'll send you one for Christmas.
MeatheadWhat?
MeatheadRuler B, banned min.
MeatheadWhy?
JTEvidently he didn't like it.
JTWell, he was kind of a.
JTAnyway, so.
MeatheadGeorge iii.
JTNo, Oliver Cromwell.
JTHe's the guy who lost.
JTHe.
JTHe kind of lost his head over the whole.
MeatheadWell, now you threw us off with the word ruler because he was.
JTBut I said he wasn't a king.
JTI said he wasn't a king.
MeatheadHe was a ruler.
MeatheadHe's a politician, though.
JTYeah.
MeatheadPrime minister.
JTWhat is the original name given to small sausages wrapped in bacon.
JTThat's an easy one.
LeannePigs in a blanket.
JTThere you go.
JTAnd finally today for our Christmas special, the tradition of sending Christmas cards began in multiple choice.
JT1800, 1843, 1900 or 1919.
MeatheadWow.
Leanne1843.
JTYou got it.
JTLeanne wins.
MeatheadI.
MeatheadI should have known.
MeatheadI was there.
JTThat was like the old Ronald Reagan speech when he said something about a Lincoln speech.
JTAnd then at the end he turned around and he said.
JTAnd no, I did not hear it personally.
JTLive.
JTI.
JTYou know, like that.
JTSo that was good.
JTLast question has nothing to do with Christmas trivia.
JTWhat's your biggest wish for Christmas, Meathead?
MeatheadAh, you know, I, it's funny that you, I, I, I, I would like to think about it for a while.
MeatheadAnd aside from the classic world peace, etc.
MeatheadI have a wish for myself this year and that is I've been an entrepreneur since I was in my 20s and that means seven day work weeks and 60, 70 hours.
MeatheadAnd I'm hoping to slow down this year at age 75.
MeatheadI'm hoping to cut back to about 20 hours a week next year, 20, 25, and spend more time with my wife and spend more time in the garden and spend more time traveling.
MeatheadSpend more time hanging out with you guys and teaching your audience and others how to cook.
JTWell, there you go.
JTI think that's very admirable.
LeanneThat's a tough adjustment.
JTYeah, it is.
JTLeanne, what's your wish?
LeanneI wish that I have some close friends and family struggling with some health issues.
LeanneSo I wish for them to get well and get through their difficult times.
JTThere you go.
MeatheadAdd my wish to yours.
MeatheadI know about that issue and I hope it works out best for you.
JTThank you.
JTAnd my wish for you, Meathead, is that the Chicago Bears, at some point in the next 10 years, have a winning season.
MeatheadOh, don't hurt me now.
MeatheadHelp me.
JTWell, I could have said the Cubs, but, you know, whatever.
MeatheadI'm a football fan, not a baseball fan.
MeatheadOh, dear.
JTWe're going to get out of here.
JTI wish you both a very merry Christmas with your family and friends and.
MeatheadAnd, and to all your listeners, too.
MeatheadThanks for joining us this day and.
LeanneOther days and, and a happy New Year, too.
JTYes, a Happy New Year make 25 a great year.
JTI hope so.
JTSo for Leanne and Meathead and myself, we wish you from the Turn It, Don't Burn it studios.
JTWe wish you a great Christmas and New Year's and all of that.
JTGo out there, cook some good food, have a good time, and most of all, be kind.
JTTake care, everybody.
