Today is Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Speaker AAnd this is worth the binge.
Speaker AThe show where Aubrey and Jeff talk about shows worth binging.
Speaker ASo we're kind of behind on recording and editing and apologize for that.
Speaker AShirelle wasn't happy that it took a minute for her episode to come out.
Speaker AIt's just because I've been working literally every day and you've been sick and I've been sick.
Speaker ASo, so sorry that we weren't able to get that done, but literally have not had a day off in two weeks.
Speaker ASo gonna get these couple episodes whipped up and talk about this show that is continuing to be real weird.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BNot as weird as some shows we've watched, but still kind of weird.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYou're affectionately termed wackadoo shows.
Speaker BIt hasn't officially become a wackadoo show yet.
Speaker BSo we're good.
Speaker AI guess.
Speaker AI want to know when that jump the shark moment is for you.
Speaker BOkay, I'll let you know.
Speaker BSeason two, episode five is titled Trojan's Horse.
Speaker BTensions emerge after the team suffers a loss.
Speaker BSo we start this episode with a.
Speaker BA white clothed man who is walking a cart to O and D.
Speaker BWe don't ever see this man's face, which is super bizarre.
Speaker AYeah, it feels on purpose.
Speaker BBut he meets Felicia and someone else that works in on D and they hand him a tray of dental tools.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd we're not real sure.
Speaker AWe think it's the guy who comes and collects stuff that Felicia talked about from the.
Speaker AWhat was the floor?
Speaker AShe called it the Exports Hall.
Speaker AExports Hall.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo we think maybe it's that, but that's really the best guess we have right now.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd then he takes.
Speaker BHe wheels that cart back to the elevator, rides it down.
Speaker BDon't see him again.
Speaker ANo, we will, but we don't know when.
Speaker BAfter the severance intro, we see Mark at his house taking some pills that we've never seen him take before.
Speaker BAnd he also drinks this white fluid from the fridge that looks disgusting.
Speaker BAnd you can tell by his face, the face he makes, that it also tastes disgusting.
Speaker AYeah, it's got like cabbage or something in it.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker BYeah, it looks weird.
Speaker BAnd we assume it has something to do with the reintegration stuff, but we're not really told.
Speaker AAnd there's no way I could be doing it.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker AI am not proudly.
Speaker ABut I am a picky eater.
Speaker AAnd there's just not a way it's.
Speaker BYou'd probably gag.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BHe's talking to Devin on the phone and Catches her up about the weekend he had at work.
Speaker BShe is very excited to kind of see what's going to happen next since the light messaging didn't work.
Speaker BBut Mark doesn't really answer and say what's next for him.
Speaker BKind of just brushes it off.
Speaker BI feel like.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ANot getting her hopes up too high, maybe.
Speaker BAnd I don't think he's ready to tell her about the reintegration stuff either, because he's already had one procedure.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BRigabi walks in with some groceries and just.
Speaker BI was really confused.
Speaker BShe just walked in like she lives there.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BBecause apparently she does.
Speaker AMaybe another love interest for Mark.
Speaker BNo way.
Speaker BBut we do find out she is living there.
Speaker BAnd Mark is trying to figure out when he's going to start remembering stuff because he hasn't remembered anything since the last episode we saw.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI mean, he's wanting to rush this.
Speaker AAnd I get it.
Speaker ABecause, like, if your motivation is, let's, hey, let's save my wife that I thought was dead.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI'd want to be in a hurry.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBut she's like, just slow down.
Speaker BWe'll get to another procedure in time, probably tomorrow.
Speaker BAnd she's like, well, maybe your innie has noticed some things or remembered something that maybe you haven't.
Speaker BSo just to keep up the hope.
Speaker AI'm sure that is very difficult to do.
Speaker BWhen we get to Lumen, we see Helena sitting across from Mr.
Speaker BDrummond and Natalie.
Speaker BShe does not want to return to the severed floor after Irving tried to drown her.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASecond time.
Speaker AThe second time somebody's trying to kill her.
Speaker AFirst time it was herself.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBut Mr.
Speaker BDrummond tells her that she's gonna return to the severed floor anyway because we need to get Mark to complete this cold Harper file.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AWhat's this dude's deal?
Speaker BI.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker BYeah, it was very bizarre.
Speaker BHe's like, no, you're going down there.
Speaker BBut I feel like, you know, since Helena is about to take over the company, she would have a little bit more say than she does.
Speaker BBut she just.
Speaker BHe tells her that's what she's doing, and then she goes and does it.
Speaker BSo I don't know.
Speaker AYeah, it doesn't make any sense to me, but, you know, of the grand scheme of things in the show not making sense, I guess that's not real high up on the list.
Speaker BWe see Helena enter the elevator, and we hear the great ding that tells us the chip is activating.
Speaker BAnd Heliar wakes up for the first time on the severed floor this season.
Speaker BMs.
Speaker BWong meets Heli as she gets out of the elevator, and she leads her to Milchick's office so he can explain what happened during their ort bow since she woke up there.
Speaker AOr at least kind of explained.
Speaker BYeah, at least kind of explained.
Speaker BWhen they get there, Heli's greeted by Mark and Dylan, who are trying to figure out if she is really Helly or not.
Speaker BAnd Milchick leads them into his office and explains that Helena was playing kind of an undercover boss deal, like Kier used to do many times in the factories he was overseeing.
Speaker AYeah, I think that's just another live.
Speaker AI met Belchick.
Speaker BYeah, me too.
Speaker BHe tells Heli and the other team members that Irving tried to kill her, so he was dismissed and won't be coming back.
Speaker BAnd then he takes them to mdr, where we see a whole new setup.
Speaker AThe tri desk.
Speaker BThe tri desk stations, which is very weird.
Speaker BNormally they would replace somebody, get a new worker, but this time they decided not to.
Speaker BDylan asked Mr.
Speaker BMilchick if they can have a funeral for Irving, which I thought was really sweet.
Speaker BMilchick kind of looks to Mark because he's the department chief, and he's like, as long as it's quick, I guess we can do one.
Speaker BAnd I was like, geez, Mark.
Speaker AYeah, Mark is checked out.
Speaker BYeah, He's.
Speaker AHe's kind of done dealing with emotional and basically sexual abuse that he's been subject to.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker BDylan is not a fan of him saying that.
Speaker BSays thank you to Mr.
Speaker BMilchick.
Speaker BAnd then he says, but not to you.
Speaker BAnd he puts his little cubicle.
Speaker BMark coughs.
Speaker BI think as a symptom of, you know, the reintegration, but.
Speaker BOr getting a sickness from being out in the cold.
Speaker BWho knows?
Speaker AOr maybe just wanting to leave the.
Speaker BRoom or just wanting to leave the room.
Speaker BAnd goes to the restroom, where Heli ends up following him.
Speaker BLater, we see Milchick exit and radios Ms.
Speaker BWong and tells her to meet him to ready a bereavement kit for mbr.
Speaker AAnd she is not down for this idea.
Speaker BShe is not down for it.
Speaker AShe does.
Speaker AShe doesn't want to do it because she thinks that the Ennis will then feel like people, which is a heck of a line.
Speaker AYou know, they're not people.
Speaker AKind of the.
Speaker AThe way Helly talked about it.
Speaker AHelena talked about it in season one, and, you know, that even more dehumanizing.
Speaker AAnd so I.
Speaker AYou know, it's that little bit of separation that she has with Melchik is starting to get a little bit bigger because she's questioning him.
Speaker AAnd in that little exchange, they talk about how he has his first performance review coming up.
Speaker AAnd, you know, if somebody's mentioning that and they're the one of the ones helping review, you probably.
Speaker AProbably didn't give you a great review.
Speaker BYeah, I just kind of felt more like she had grown up kind of like Ms.
Speaker BCobell in that moment, because she's taught from.
Speaker BShe was obviously taught from a young age that these innies don't have.
Speaker BThey're not people.
Speaker BThey're not, you know, they don't have feelings.
Speaker BThey don't have all these things.
Speaker BBut I feel like more as a kid, you would question unless you were grown up that way.
Speaker BHeli follows Mark into the restroom.
Speaker BShe tries to talk to him, but Mark is not wanting to talk about anything.
Speaker BLike you said, he's just kind of done.
Speaker BAnd they get in a little argument and he leaves the bathroom.
Speaker BHe's like, I'm not.
Speaker BYeah, doing this.
Speaker AAnd I don't blame the dude.
Speaker BWe go to the funeral that is held in the break room.
Speaker BMDR drinks out of these little blue mugs that have Irving B's face on them.
Speaker BAnd Milchick says a few words and then has Dylan up to say the eulogy, which I.
Speaker BI loved.
Speaker BLittle Dylan's recount of his time with Irving.
Speaker BIt was kind of.
Speaker BIt was awesome.
Speaker BMilchick then presents a melon tray that has Irving's head carved out of the melon.
Speaker AExpertly carved, by the way.
Speaker AIt was insane if Milchick did that.
Speaker AThat's a dude of many talents.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BHe's.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BJack of all trades.
Speaker BMilchick leaves and asks Ms.
Speaker BWong to follow as she starts playing the theremin again, but doesn't let her finish it.
Speaker BShe just kind of was getting ready to start, and he's like, come on, Miss.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AHe's not a big fan of her doing that, or generally a big fan of her.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAs the team.
Speaker BAs the team eats the melon, Hel tries to comfort Dylan, which is real sweet.
Speaker BMark gets up to leave and Dylan ask if he's told Heli about, you know, things that have happened, such as Ms.
Speaker BCasey.
Speaker BHe obviously hasn't, but he spills the beans as they say.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AMs.
Speaker ACasey is his wife.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AWhich he kind of told her, or at least he thought he did in the first episode of this season, but it wasn't her.
Speaker BIt wasn't her.
Speaker BShe asked what they're going to do about Ms.
Speaker BCasey, and Mark says nothing because Helena told them everything that they're planning, which I don't know, that she actually has.
Speaker BYeah, she could have, but I don't think she has.
Speaker AYeah, I don't know.
Speaker AI mean, I don't think she said zero, but we definitely didn't see her say anything for sure.
Speaker BHelly tells him that that wasn't her, and Mark says, how do I know?
Speaker BYou don't.
Speaker BWhat?
Speaker AYou don't.
Speaker BYou don't.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd Hallie says he needs to trust her and stop being a type of hole.
Speaker BMilchick meets Natalie for his first performance review.
Speaker BHe tries to have a heart to heart with her about the paintings he received, but she just says Mr.
Speaker BDrummond's waiting for them.
Speaker BShe does not want to talk about this.
Speaker AI mean, that's all hurt words say.
Speaker AI do think her eyes definitely say a little more than that.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BOr at least this is not the time and place to talk about this.
Speaker BWe see Dylan get up from the melon bar and he sees the poster that says hang in there, which was Irving's final words.
Speaker AYeah, we've heard that somewhere before.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AJust remember.
Speaker BJust remember that.
Speaker BHe finds a sketch of the Exports hall elevator taped to the back and there are some directions telling him how to get there.
Speaker AAnd I memorized them.
Speaker BYou did?
Speaker BWhat are they?
Speaker ALeft, right?
Speaker AAbba.
Speaker AOh, wait, I think that's part of the dunk from anywhere code on mbaj.
Speaker BOh, my gosh.
Speaker AI'm gonna have to look at it again.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BBut he ends up taping it back to the picture and he leaves, which I kind of thought he would have taken it with him, but he didn't.
Speaker BMr.
Speaker BDrummond reads out Mr.
Speaker BMilchick's two positives.
Speaker BWhich.
Speaker BCrazy.
Speaker BHe only has two positives about him that he received M.
Speaker BThat he received the gift of cure paintings with grace.
Speaker BAnd his attendance and urinalysis are both an excellent range.
Speaker AI mean, dude's in shape, so I kind of get that.
Speaker BWhy are they testing his urine?
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker APerformance enhancing drugs, I guess.
Speaker BI guess.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker ABut to get good marks for receiving those with grace makes me think that they were looking to see if maybe he wasn't going to.
Speaker ALike they almost expected if he was not going to.
Speaker AYeah, because they knew they were weird.
Speaker BThen he reads out the rest of his negatives.
Speaker BWhich two positives?
Speaker BThe rest negative.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AUsing big words.
Speaker AUse of paper clips in going the wrong direction.
Speaker AAnd the one that actually is like a bad thing.
Speaker AYou know, the failed.
Speaker AJust massively failed.
Speaker AOrtbo.
Speaker AYeah, I mean, it was.
Speaker AIt was a failure.
Speaker AYou know, those first two, you know, maybe.
Speaker AMaybe it's something worth addressing, but I don't know if it's enough for, like, an actual Mark against him.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BVery bizarre.
Speaker ABut I did feel the stress of a performance review going through that.
Speaker AThat was something I was, you know, feeling going alongside him there.
Speaker AAnd then, you know, Drummond really makes that point to really stress how important the work that Mark is doing.
Speaker AAnd with that, Cold harbor, and we see that that file is up to 85%.
Speaker AAnd he basically is telling Milchick that, like, hey, you got to turn the screws.
Speaker AThis needs to get done.
Speaker ANo more playing around.
Speaker ASo that's kind of ominous.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAs Mark is working on the Cold harbor file, we see him looking at his team photo, which flashes to the pills he was taking in the morning.
Speaker BSome reintegration, memory flashes there.
Speaker BHe gets a little.
Speaker BHe seems to get a bit of a headache, as that happens, and decides to get up and leave kind of a couple minutes early.
Speaker BI mean, he's the only one there.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAs he walks to the elevator, we see Milchick following him to the elevator and gets in with him, and they have a little, I don't know, spat.
Speaker BMark brings up the.
Speaker BThe Gazette newspaper, kind of calling it crap, like.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BAnd then Milchick gets a little closer and says, did you tell Halyar about what you did with her Audi?
Speaker AYeah, Right up in his grill.
Speaker BRight up in his grill.
Speaker BAnd uses.
Speaker BAnd he uses some language that we don't normally hear Milchick use.
Speaker BDropping that F bomb.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo much for big words.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBut then Milchick steps off the elevator and says, have a good evening.
Speaker BLike nothing just happened.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AEverything's fine.
Speaker AGoodbye.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBye.
Speaker BSo we go back to Rickon and Devin's house, and we see Devin reading a page from Rickon's new book that he's working on.
Speaker BShe tells him that it feels a lot more like Lumen language than it feels like Rickon's language, and that she doesn't like it at all.
Speaker ANo.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AShe looks almost like disgusted with her husband doing what he's doing.
Speaker AI mean, he's into the money of it and into the.
Speaker AYou know, the.
Speaker AAlmost like the power of it.
Speaker ABut she's like, hey, they're hurting people, and if you're working with them, then you are, too, and wants no part of it.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBut he does explain that this could be something of a Trojan's horse.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWhich happens to be the title of the episode.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AWhich you never hear it.
Speaker AWorded that way.
Speaker AYeah, it was really oddly worded.
Speaker ALike a lot of the other things in this show anyway.
Speaker ABut, you know, Trojan you usually hear as a Trojan horse, not a Trojan's horse.
Speaker AAgain, not that different.
Speaker ALike a lot of the phrasing in this show, I just, you know, just a little bit off from.
Speaker AFrom way you'd normally hear thing.
Speaker BBut Devon just says no, thank you as she walks away from that.
Speaker AYeah, no, thank you.
Speaker BThank you.
Speaker BWell, you see Irving's Audi at home, taking down his export hall elevator paintings.
Speaker BJust kind of guess I'm done with this chapter of my life.
Speaker BBut then we see him walk to the pay phone and make a call.
Speaker BBut he notices a car.
Speaker BWatch someone watching him in a car.
Speaker AAnd we still don't know who he's even calling.
Speaker BNo, we think it's Raabi, but I.
Speaker AMean, maybe you think they'd show her taking a call at Mark's house or something.
Speaker BYeah, that's true.
Speaker BHe goes over to investigate and finds Bert's Audi, who explains how and why he's.
Speaker BHe was let go from Lumen.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASupposedly had a torrid romantic affair with someone at work.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd he kind of assumed it was him because he was knocking at his door frantically.
Speaker BAnd then obviously didn't know what he was doing after that when the OTC turned off.
Speaker AAnd then makes me think we're actually never going to get that scene.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ABecause we would have.
Speaker AThat would have been probably when we got it right.
Speaker BThere would have been a good scene to see.
Speaker BBut then Bert invites Irving to dinner with him and his husband, which was so weird.
Speaker AVery weird.
Speaker AWhat's for dinner?
Speaker BWhat's for dinner?
Speaker BRegave is going through some boxes of Marks in the basement.
Speaker BJust, you know, go through my stuff.
Speaker BIt's fine.
Speaker AI guess she's looking for something to jog his memory.
Speaker BThey find a box that was supposed to have Gemma's ashes in it.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAwkward.
Speaker BMark asked though, who's in there if Jim is, you know, alive and well at Lumen.
Speaker BAnd Regavi explains that Lumen's got connections at the morgue, so it could be anybody.
Speaker AYeah, they got their fingers in a little bit of everything, it feels like.
Speaker BMark starts coughing again.
Speaker BAnd Rigavi asks him if he's alright.
Speaker BHe says, you know, basically he is.
Speaker BAnd then wants to know when he's getting back in that machine because he's ready.
Speaker BReady to get this going.
Speaker BRahabi says she needs one more day.
Speaker BAnd Mark begins to walk up the stairs, but he hears a voice and he thinks It's Rugabi.
Speaker BBut she is busy doing something.
Speaker AYeah, she wasn't saying anything.
Speaker BAnd so he continues to walk upstairs, and then we see his memory flash into Lumen.
Speaker AAll of a sudden, he's there wearing regular clothes right in front of Ms.
Speaker ACasey slash Gemma.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWhich is.
Speaker BShe's spouting out these, you know, facts about his Audi, which obviously he would find very bizarre.
Speaker BLike, why is she doing that?
Speaker AVery weird.
Speaker BSo I don't know.
Speaker BIt's crazy.
Speaker BAnd then we see him back in his living room and the credits hit.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AIt definitely was not my favorite episode.
Speaker AI'm not saying it was terrible, but, you know, it was not.
Speaker AIt was not my favorite, especially of this second season.
Speaker ABut it did feel like it was kind of a setup episode.
Speaker ALeaning towards learning some new things as we move on.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BAnd we got to see Helly come back, so that was good.
Speaker AWe did get to see Heli, and she didn't have much to do except complain.
Speaker BMm.
Speaker BSo I noticed some things this episode during the funeral, we see this a little electronic Irving look like a little video game version of him.
Speaker BAnd the music that's playing with that is like when you die on a video game.
Speaker BIt was like, oh, my gosh.
Speaker BThat's.
Speaker AIt is weird.
Speaker BBut I also noticed that that was playing on the screen, that the words would be when they were in the break room the first season and they had their hands on that little hand tray that was like, measuring their vitals.
Speaker BLike, that's still in the room.
Speaker BIt's just used as something different now, which is weird.
Speaker BAnd Milchick says that the watermelon is a black beauty watermelon.
Speaker BAnd that's what Irving's hair is made from on the watermelon.
Speaker BI think he's, you know, full of crap because he says it's from Malaysia.
Speaker BI don't think think they would go to Malaysia to get watermelon for these innies.
Speaker AMaybe they get contacts there too.
Speaker BMaybe.
Speaker BAnd then the blue Irving mug they're drinking out of.
Speaker BWe also see in the intro a blue Irving faced mug.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker AYes, we do.
Speaker BYeah, those are my observations.
Speaker BSo we gotta talk about Dylan's best lines this episode.
Speaker BThey are in Milchick's office and he's, you know, everybody's asking questions all at one time, but he seems like his questions are the most important because he's like, answer my questions.
Speaker BJust shouts at Milchick.
Speaker BAnd Milchick's like, are you a kid right now?
Speaker BWhat are you doing?
Speaker AYou need to sit down yeah.
Speaker AAnd calm down.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BMr.
Speaker BMilchick is trying to explain what Irving's Audi is doing, and Dylan says, I don't give three dry Fs about his Audi.
Speaker BLike, where are you getting these?
Speaker AHe likes the.
Speaker AThe concept of dry and wet.
Speaker BYeah, because he says wet at one point.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd then they walk into the MDR and he sees the tri stations and he says, what in the abominable F.
Speaker BHe's got all these things that he says in front of that word that are just.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BLike, where are you getting these things from?
Speaker AA little extra flavor.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo which one did you think was the funniest?
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AI feel like you have to.
Speaker AYou have to decide this.
Speaker BOh, okay.
Speaker BI think the abominable one was the funniest.
Speaker BIt was just out of nowhere, and you didn't even see what he was talking about at first because they walk in and it's just on him and he says it.
Speaker BAnd then they scan over to the.
Speaker BThe tri stations and we're like, oh, this is why he's talking about that.
Speaker BSo I really like that one.
Speaker AFair enough.
Speaker AI think that means it's the winner.
Speaker BIt is.
Speaker BDing, ding, ding.
Speaker BAll right, well, we appreciate you watching the episode and listening to us talk about it.
Speaker BWe would really love to hear your thoughts and opinions about this episode.
Speaker BYou could call and text us at 415 Podline and you could be heard at the beginning of the next episode if you call in.
Speaker AYeah, it's pretty easy to do.
Speaker BSo thanks so much for listening.
Speaker BThis was worth the binge Our severance series.
Speaker BWe will see you next time later.
Speaker ABye.
