Reimagining God's Welcome Table A study Based on Luke 13:22 31 on the Daily Bible Refresh with Dr.
Speaker ABrad Miller hello good people.
Speaker AWelcome to Daily Bible Refresh.
Speaker AThis is our daily take on reading the New Testament.
Speaker AWe read from the Message version of the Bible to make it understandable.
Speaker AWe make it relatable by giving you some points to ponder, some teaching points.
Speaker AWe make it applicable by giving you an action step to take.
Speaker AWe take our daily reading from the Revised Common Lectionary, a three year cycle of reading through the entire Bible.
Speaker AWe're in Year C, the Lenten season.
Speaker AWe do all that in under 10 minutes or so and have a prayer to boot.
Speaker AWe do all that from our book from our website voiceofgod daily.com that's the home of the ABC 123 Bible Study Method.
Speaker ALet's get into our reading for today from Luke 13:22 31 from the message he went on teaching from town to village, village to town, but keeping on a steady course toward Jerusalem, A bystander said, master, will only a few be saved?
Speaker AHe said, whether few or many is none of your business.
Speaker APut your mind on your life with God.
Speaker AThe way to life to God is vigorous and requires your total attention.
Speaker AA lot of you are going to assume that you're going to sit down to God's salvation banquet just because you've been hanging around the neighborhood all your lives.
Speaker AWell, one day you're going to be banging on the door wanting to get in, but you'll find the door locked and the master saying, sorry, you're not on my guest list.
Speaker AYou'll protest, but we've known you all our lives only to be interrupted with his abrupt your kind of knowing can hardly be called knowing.
Speaker AYou don't know the first thing about me.
Speaker AThat's when you'll find yourselves out in the cold, strangers to grace.
Speaker AYou'll watch Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all the prophets march into God's kingdom.
Speaker AYou'll watch outsiders stream and from east, west, north and south and sit down at the table of God's kingdom.
Speaker AAnd all the time you'll be outside looking in and wondering what happened.
Speaker AThis is the great reversal.
Speaker AThe last in line, put at the head of the line and the so called first ended up last.
Speaker AJust then some Pharisees came up and said, run for your life.
Speaker AHerod's got your number.
Speaker AHe's out to kill you.
Speaker AWow, some powerful things there to think about here.
Speaker AIn this passage about kind of reimagining God's welcome TABLE we're exploring a challenging passage which is about inclusion and privilege and what what it truly means to be a part of of God's kingdom.
Speaker AHere's some points to ponder for you today.
Speaker AAt one point is about looking beyond religious gatekeeping.
Speaker AJesus response to the question about who will be saved is particularly relevant today.
Speaker ARather than engaging in some theological debate about who's in and who's out, Jesus redirects our attention to living authentically and intentionally in a progressive understanding.
Speaker ASalvation isn't about exclusive membership, but about participating in God's transformation work in the world.
Speaker AThis challenges us to examine our own tendencies toward religious gatekeeping and exclusivity.
Speaker AAnother point the illusion of religious proximity.
Speaker AWhen Jesus speaks about those who have been hanging around the neighborhood, he is addressing a profound truth about privilege and complacency.
Speaker ASimply being adjacent to religious institutions or cultural Christianity doesn't automatically translate to embodying divine love and justice.
Speaker AThis speaks to our modern context where many claim religious identity without engaging in the true work of justice, equality, and radical inclusion that Jesus modeled.
Speaker AOne more point here.
Speaker AIt's about the great reversal as social justice.
Speaker AThe great reversal Jesus describes isn't about divine punishment but about restorative justice.
Speaker AThose traditionally excluded, the marginalized, the outcast, the outsiders are centered in God's kingdom vision.
Speaker AThis challenges us to examine our own social structures and privilege, asking how we might participate in this holy reversal of unjust systems.
Speaker AHere's your action step.
Speaker AI want to invite you to think about holy disruption.
Speaker AThink about that in terms of ways your religious or social community might be perpetuating exclusivity, even if it's unintentional.
Speaker AThis could be through language or accessibility or some traditions that we really haven't examined carefully.
Speaker ATake a concrete step to make your space more welcoming to those who might feel like they are outsiders.
Speaker AThis isn't about guilt, but about growth and transformation.
Speaker AWe're going to pray here in just a moment.
