Awakening to authentic faith.

Speaker A

A deep dive into the Revelation 3:1:6 on the Daily Bible refresh with Dr.

Speaker A

Brad Miller.

Speaker A

Hello good people.

Speaker A

Welcome to the Daily Bible Refresh.

Speaker A

My name is Dr.

Speaker A

Brad Miller and I'm on a mission to get the audible word of God, the voice of God into tune.

Speaker A

Millionaires, that's a million people by the end of 2028.

Speaker A

We do that through a daily reading of the New Testament.

Speaker A

We use the make it understandable by using the message version of the Bible.

Speaker A

We make it relatable by giving you some points to ponder and applicable by giving you an action step to follow.

Speaker A

We give you the daily reading from the Revised Common Lectionary.

Speaker A

We're in year C of a three year cycle.

Speaker A

We're in the Lenten season.

Speaker A

We do all of that and we have a prayer in under 10 minutes or so.

Speaker A

It's all brought to you by our website, voiceofgoddaily.com that's the home of the ABC 1, 2, 3 Bible Study Method.

Speaker A

Here is our reading for the day from the Revelation 3:1 6 reading from the message to Sardis.

Speaker A

Write this to Sardis.

Speaker A

To the angel of the church, the one holding the seven spirits of God in one hand and a firm grip on the seven stars with the other.

Speaker A

Speaks.

Speaker A

I see right through your work.

Speaker A

You have a reputation for vigor and zest.

Speaker A

But you're dead.

Speaker A

Stone dead.

Speaker A

Up on your feet.

Speaker A

Take a deep breath.

Speaker A

Maybe there's life in you yet, but I wouldn't know it by looking at your busy work.

Speaker A

Nothing of God's work has been completed.

Speaker A

Your condition is desperate.

Speaker A

Think of the gift you once had in your hands.

Speaker A

The message you heard with your ears.

Speaker A

Grasp it again and turn back to God.

Speaker A

If you pull the covers back over your head and sleep on, oblivious to God, I'll return when you least expect it.

Speaker A

Break into your life like a thief in the night.

Speaker A

You still have a few followers of Jesus and Sardis who haven't ruined themselves wallowing in the muck of the world's ways.

Speaker A

They'll walk with me on parade.

Speaker A

They've proved their worth.

Speaker A

Conquerors will march in the victory parade, their names indelible in the book of life.

Speaker A

I'll lead them up and present them by name to my Father and his angels.

Speaker A

Are your ears awake?

Speaker A

Listen.

Speaker A

Listen to the wind, words, the spirit blowing through the churches.

Speaker A

Hmm, some powerful imagery there.

Speaker A

And this is a really challenging message about spiritual authenticity, about institutional religion and really what it means to be alive in our faith.

Speaker A

So let's take a look at Some points to ponder here today.

Speaker A

One is about going beyond religious performance.

Speaker A

The message to Sardis, the Church of Sardis cuts deep.

Speaker A

You have a reputation for vigor and zest, but you're dead.

Speaker A

This speaks powerfully to a modern context where religious institutions often prioritize appearance over authenticity transformation.

Speaker A

In progressive Christianity, we're called to examine whether our busy programming, perfect services and polished presentations might actually be masking spiritual stagnation.

Speaker A

What does it mean to be truly alive in our faith?

Speaker A

Beyond institutional metrics of success, Another point is about reimagining God's work.

Speaker A

The text here criticizes busy work that doesn't complete God's work.

Speaker A

This invites us to question our definitions of meaningful spiritual activity.

Speaker A

Perhaps God's work isn't about maintaining buildings or preserving traditions, but about advancing justice, nurturing compassion and creating a beloved community.

Speaker A

How might our communities look different if we prioritize transformation over institutional maintenance?

Speaker A

A third point, environmental and social consciousness.

Speaker A

The reference to those who haven't ruined themselves wallowing in the muck of the world's ways takes on a new meaning in our era of climate crisis and consumer capitalism.

Speaker A

Rather than reading this as individual moral purity, we might understand it as a call to resist systems that destroy both planet and people.

Speaker A

How do we live alternatively to the destructive patterns of our world?

Speaker A

Let's talk about an action step.

Speaker A

What do you think this week about practicing holy integration?

Speaker A

That is, take an inventory of your activities.

Speaker A

Spiritual activities, religious activities, activities in your workplace, in your everyday life.

Speaker A

Which ones truly advance justice, deepen compassion or create positive change?

Speaker A

Choose one busy activity to pause and redirect that energy towards something transformative.

Speaker A

This might mean trading a committee meeting or something like that for some direct community hands on service, or replacing passive worship consumption with some sort of actively engaged either form of worship or some act of social justice.

Speaker A

There's several things that you can do.

Speaker A

One of the things we're going to do here in just a minute is to have a prayer together.

Speaker A

But before we do that, I did want to just share with you that we have a resource that's going to help you with your own daily Bible study.

Speaker A

It's called the ABC 123 Bible Study Guidelines.

Speaker A

You head over to our website Voice of God Daily to pick it up right there.

Speaker A

It's free.

Speaker A

It's free to use in complement to your daily reading of the Word, hearing of the Word through the daily Bible refresh, and it is a part of the process and you to get into the Word of your own accord.

Speaker A

And you can find all that resources there@voiceofgoddaily.com let's pray.

Speaker A

Oh God, you are the divine awakener.

Speaker A

Shake us from our comfortable slumber, from our illusion of spiritual vitality.

Speaker A

When we're just going through the motions, we confess that sometimes our busyness mask our emptiness, our programs hide our paralysis, our reputation overshadows our reality.

Speaker A

Give us courage to wake up, to breathe deeply of your spirit, to grasp again the revolutionary love that calls us to true transformation.

Speaker A

Help us to distinguish between what looks good and what does good, between institutional success and authentic spiritual growth.

Speaker A

May we be alive, truly alive, in our pursuit of justice, in our practice of compassion, and in our protection of this precious planet.

Speaker A

Amen.

Speaker A

It's always precious to have time with you, my good friends.

Speaker A

I'm so glad you're with me here on the Daily Bible Refresh.

Speaker A

Hope that you'll join me in my mission to get the audible word of God at the two millionaires.
