Awakening to authentic faith.
Speaker AA deep dive into the Revelation 3:1:6 on the Daily Bible refresh with Dr.
Speaker ABrad Miller.
Speaker AHello good people.
Speaker AWelcome to the Daily Bible Refresh.
Speaker AMy name is Dr.
Speaker ABrad Miller and I'm on a mission to get the audible word of God, the voice of God into tune.
Speaker AMillionaires, that's a million people by the end of 2028.
Speaker AWe do that through a daily reading of the New Testament.
Speaker AWe use the make it understandable by using the message version of the Bible.
Speaker AWe make it relatable by giving you some points to ponder and applicable by giving you an action step to follow.
Speaker AWe give you the daily reading from the Revised Common Lectionary.
Speaker AWe're in year C of a three year cycle.
Speaker AWe're in the Lenten season.
Speaker AWe do all of that and we have a prayer in under 10 minutes or so.
Speaker AIt's all brought to you by our website, voiceofgoddaily.com that's the home of the ABC 1, 2, 3 Bible Study Method.
Speaker AHere is our reading for the day from the Revelation 3:1 6 reading from the message to Sardis.
Speaker AWrite this to Sardis.
Speaker ATo the angel of the church, the one holding the seven spirits of God in one hand and a firm grip on the seven stars with the other.
Speaker ASpeaks.
Speaker AI see right through your work.
Speaker AYou have a reputation for vigor and zest.
Speaker ABut you're dead.
Speaker AStone dead.
Speaker AUp on your feet.
Speaker ATake a deep breath.
Speaker AMaybe there's life in you yet, but I wouldn't know it by looking at your busy work.
Speaker ANothing of God's work has been completed.
Speaker AYour condition is desperate.
Speaker AThink of the gift you once had in your hands.
Speaker AThe message you heard with your ears.
Speaker AGrasp it again and turn back to God.
Speaker AIf you pull the covers back over your head and sleep on, oblivious to God, I'll return when you least expect it.
Speaker ABreak into your life like a thief in the night.
Speaker AYou still have a few followers of Jesus and Sardis who haven't ruined themselves wallowing in the muck of the world's ways.
Speaker AThey'll walk with me on parade.
Speaker AThey've proved their worth.
Speaker AConquerors will march in the victory parade, their names indelible in the book of life.
Speaker AI'll lead them up and present them by name to my Father and his angels.
Speaker AAre your ears awake?
Speaker AListen.
Speaker AListen to the wind, words, the spirit blowing through the churches.
Speaker AHmm, some powerful imagery there.
Speaker AAnd this is a really challenging message about spiritual authenticity, about institutional religion and really what it means to be alive in our faith.
Speaker ASo let's take a look at Some points to ponder here today.
Speaker AOne is about going beyond religious performance.
Speaker AThe message to Sardis, the Church of Sardis cuts deep.
Speaker AYou have a reputation for vigor and zest, but you're dead.
Speaker AThis speaks powerfully to a modern context where religious institutions often prioritize appearance over authenticity transformation.
Speaker AIn progressive Christianity, we're called to examine whether our busy programming, perfect services and polished presentations might actually be masking spiritual stagnation.
Speaker AWhat does it mean to be truly alive in our faith?
Speaker ABeyond institutional metrics of success, Another point is about reimagining God's work.
Speaker AThe text here criticizes busy work that doesn't complete God's work.
Speaker AThis invites us to question our definitions of meaningful spiritual activity.
Speaker APerhaps God's work isn't about maintaining buildings or preserving traditions, but about advancing justice, nurturing compassion and creating a beloved community.
Speaker AHow might our communities look different if we prioritize transformation over institutional maintenance?
Speaker AA third point, environmental and social consciousness.
Speaker AThe reference to those who haven't ruined themselves wallowing in the muck of the world's ways takes on a new meaning in our era of climate crisis and consumer capitalism.
Speaker ARather than reading this as individual moral purity, we might understand it as a call to resist systems that destroy both planet and people.
Speaker AHow do we live alternatively to the destructive patterns of our world?
Speaker ALet's talk about an action step.
Speaker AWhat do you think this week about practicing holy integration?
Speaker AThat is, take an inventory of your activities.
Speaker ASpiritual activities, religious activities, activities in your workplace, in your everyday life.
Speaker AWhich ones truly advance justice, deepen compassion or create positive change?
Speaker AChoose one busy activity to pause and redirect that energy towards something transformative.
Speaker AThis might mean trading a committee meeting or something like that for some direct community hands on service, or replacing passive worship consumption with some sort of actively engaged either form of worship or some act of social justice.
Speaker AThere's several things that you can do.
Speaker AOne of the things we're going to do here in just a minute is to have a prayer together.
Speaker ABut before we do that, I did want to just share with you that we have a resource that's going to help you with your own daily Bible study.
Speaker AIt's called the ABC 123 Bible Study Guidelines.
Speaker AYou head over to our website Voice of God Daily to pick it up right there.
Speaker AIt's free.
Speaker AIt's free to use in complement to your daily reading of the Word, hearing of the Word through the daily Bible refresh, and it is a part of the process and you to get into the Word of your own accord.
Speaker AAnd you can find all that resources there@voiceofgoddaily.com let's pray.
Speaker AOh God, you are the divine awakener.
Speaker AShake us from our comfortable slumber, from our illusion of spiritual vitality.
Speaker AWhen we're just going through the motions, we confess that sometimes our busyness mask our emptiness, our programs hide our paralysis, our reputation overshadows our reality.
Speaker AGive us courage to wake up, to breathe deeply of your spirit, to grasp again the revolutionary love that calls us to true transformation.
Speaker AHelp us to distinguish between what looks good and what does good, between institutional success and authentic spiritual growth.
Speaker AMay we be alive, truly alive, in our pursuit of justice, in our practice of compassion, and in our protection of this precious planet.
