Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Foreign.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: It's March Madness, almost end of

Speaker:

March, and you are listening here to another episode

Speaker:

of Chase and Birdies.

Speaker:

Exciting. Golly.

Speaker:

>> RB: This is very exciting. This is very exciting. I mean, you

Speaker:

look.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: It looks great right now. My podcast partner Pepe

Speaker:

finally got his camera back in the mix. He's

Speaker:

got his new microphone set up right now. And you even

Speaker:

sound better.

Speaker:

>> RB: Everything's better. I feel better. I

Speaker:

look better in this camera. Um, I got a big

Speaker:

light in my eyes. This is what it used to be like back in the day, boys. So it was

Speaker:

nice to get a little break away from it.

Speaker:

Um, today's episode is brought to you by

Speaker:

Red Vanley. So make sure you go check them

Speaker:

out@redvanly.com get

Speaker:

yourself some new swag for the spring

Speaker:

summer season. I, um, know we're excited for

Speaker:

The Chasing Birdies 2, man. That, uh, is brought to you

Speaker:

by Red Vanley. And we currently have

Speaker:

52 golfers by.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Dude, how about the hand drawn shirts

Speaker:

that we had someone mock up? Yeah, our boy

Speaker:

Hammer. How sick are those

Speaker:

with. With the like there? It's like vintage hand

Speaker:

drawn.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah, it's a cartoonish too.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, that's sick.

Speaker:

>> RB: I love how they spelled nemicolon, though.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, we got to take the O out, add the A. I understand.

Speaker:

Um, so it's good to be back here on Chasing Birdies.

Speaker:

And we have a pretty cool guest today. Daniel Dye is

Speaker:

joining us here on the podcast. Races,

Speaker:

nascar, little trucks, fast

Speaker:

cars, gets around the track, and naturally is

Speaker:

a golf addict. But, um, I felt like my head this past

Speaker:

weekend was in a racetrack mode because it was the first weekend of

Speaker:

March Madness, dude. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday,

Speaker:

you're just dialed in all day, man. You know, just

Speaker:

bets flying everywhere.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, it was just. Saturday was a

Speaker:

lackluster day. Um, definitely

Speaker:

donated. Um, but Thursday

Speaker:

and Sunday were pretty strong for me.

Speaker:

So, um, it.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: It wasn't. I think the feeling

Speaker:

of March Madness was good. You know, naturally,

Speaker:

the energy and whatnot. But there wasn't

Speaker:

other, um, than the Maryland game where the guy hits the bank shot

Speaker:

at. At the buzzer. It really

Speaker:

wasn't that. There wasn't anything crazy dramatic this

Speaker:

year. You know what I mean?

Speaker:

>> RB: There were no. There were a lot of blowouts. There

Speaker:

were a lot of blowouts. And then, um,

Speaker:

like you said, there was really only one quote

Speaker:

unquote, game winning shot. That was

Speaker:

Maryland. Um, yeah. So that

Speaker:

was different. See, though, dude, I mean, it was, it was exciting. It

Speaker:

was, it's. It's back. It's March Madness. Is back.

Speaker:

And I'll tell you this much, Matt George called me

Speaker:

and chirped me for. Oh, you picked all the

Speaker:

favorites. Like, like that's rookie mistake. Blah, blah, blah,

Speaker:

blah. Well, buddy, all the

Speaker:

favorites are still in it. And you're in

Speaker:

29th place out of 2019 people or whatever

Speaker:

it is. 32 people. So

Speaker:

I don't know. I mean, I realized I'm. I'm

Speaker:

probably about 16 or 17th, but that's better

Speaker:

than 29th. So where I'm from.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So, yeah, no, I'm picking the bracket, the

Speaker:

bracket challenge. It's tough. It's a lot of fun. I

Speaker:

love doing it, uh, especially with you, bud.

Speaker:

And yeah, it's tough, man. You. But that's

Speaker:

what I was going to say. You know, you picking the favorites is not terrible

Speaker:

because with the way the nii. Well, nil

Speaker:

is working and all these teams just are spending

Speaker:

the money like, you know,

Speaker:

look at Arkansas. I mean, granted, they

Speaker:

weren't anyone that thought was going to be a threat, but

Speaker:

I don't know, it's just.

Speaker:

>> RB: Look at Arkansas. Look at Kentucky. Yeah,

Speaker:

Kentucky. They were bounced in the last, uh,

Speaker:

two years, I think in round 64, sweet

Speaker:

16. Their ex coach,

Speaker:

you know, John Calipari, is now at Arkansas. He's in a

Speaker:

sweet 16. So, hey, I don't know.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, it's gonna be great. Sweet sixteen's kicking off

Speaker:

tonight. Uh, it's gonna be awesome.

Speaker:

>> RB: But what a finish on the PGA Tour, too.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: That was.

Speaker:

>> RB: Victor Hovland and Justin Thomas were throwing

Speaker:

blows, and, uh,

Speaker:

Victor Hovland came out on top,

Speaker:

which was. It's nice. I mean, he. He's kind of got

Speaker:

a little monkey off his back, too. He, um, was getting criticized

Speaker:

for not winning as much, so he's in the

Speaker:

winner circle. It's nice to see Justin Thomas starting to

Speaker:

play better. I like where his game's going. He had 62

Speaker:

at the Players, didn't do well on the

Speaker:

weekend. Um, but then he carried that

Speaker:

62 over and into this week, and

Speaker:

he has played extremely, extremely well this week.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I saw on when during the players, I saw

Speaker:

mackerel was like, plus 600 to win

Speaker:

before Sunday's round went off. So I was like,

Speaker:

that's like, I mean, JJ Spawn going to

Speaker:

get it done. I don't know. Maybe under some pressure. Probably not. So I threw some

Speaker:

coin on. On McElroy and

Speaker:

I'm like, oh, man. So Monday he gets it done.

Speaker:

But, yeah, you look at those guys, McElroy, and you just

Speaker:

said, Justin Thomas. Good to see him playing some good golf.

Speaker:

You know, uh, Scheffler kind of hasn't been

Speaker:

in the mix to date so far.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Um, but you know what? The first major is

Speaker:

right around the corner, and that's where my man

Speaker:

seems to kick it into overdrive.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah, Augusta's pretty close, so.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: But Daniel

Speaker:

Dye, introduced to us through Neil Walker. Shout out,

Speaker:

Neil. And, uh, actually play some golf with

Speaker:

Ian Patrick and Neil down at Pinehurst. And big golf nut

Speaker:

pilot, probably the first race car driver

Speaker:

we've had on.

Speaker:

>> RB: It is the first race car driver we've had on,

Speaker:

bud, so.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So I'm. I'm excited to hear what he's got to say.

Speaker:

>> RB: Uh, my big question is, how do you drive on a normal

Speaker:

road after going 200 miles an hour?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Right. That's a. This is going to be so fun

Speaker:

because all these questions like, how do you feel about driving a golf

Speaker:

cart?

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah, exactly.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: What we. Curb jumping. What are we doing?

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

So, I mean, without further ado, let's roll it on

Speaker:

over to Daniel Dye.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Let's do it. We got a fast

Speaker:

driver on the podcast today. And I just

Speaker:

told Pep, Daniel, I said, you know, I don't know

Speaker:

if we've had anyone like this

Speaker:

on the podcast before. So for the listeners out

Speaker:

there, Daniel Dye is joining us here

Speaker:

on Chase and Birdie's. Chasing more than birdies

Speaker:

in life, though, it sounds like to me. But, uh, especially at 21

Speaker:

years old.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, chasing, uh, chasing checkered flags is

Speaker:

what I do. I do chase birdies, too,

Speaker:

occasionally.

Speaker:

>> RB: They, uh.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: They are very good at staying away from

Speaker:

me. Uh, but I, uh. Yeah, man,

Speaker:

it's, uh. Racing's been a big part of my life for a long

Speaker:

time. Um, and obviously got

Speaker:

to meet a bunch of cool people, and it's.

Speaker:

It's kind of what. What led me to you guys. So excited to be. Be

Speaker:

on this with y'all today.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, man. We're absolutely stoked, too. It's like,

Speaker:

that's the way of life, you know, one person to the next, and here we are,

Speaker:

and then we're brothers in arms. It's all good.

Speaker:

>> RB: Well, well, funny enough, the day this episode's dropping,

Speaker:

Daniel the bucko season is

Speaker:

starting.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Perfect.

Speaker:

>> RB: The first game this Thursday,

Speaker:

um, for the Pittsburgh Pirates. So did you happen

Speaker:

to. Because I know that you love the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Speaker:

Did you happen to see the Paul Skeens quote?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I did not.

Speaker:

>> RB: Oh, man. Basically, he

Speaker:

came out and said that he's sick of watching a wild

Speaker:

card video from how many years ago, and that's Sad

Speaker:

that that's what the Pirates are, uh,

Speaker:

um, you know, basically still playing that there hasn't

Speaker:

been a playoff series or anything like that, and he wants to change

Speaker:

it, so. That's exciting. Get somebody in here with a little bit of a

Speaker:

voice.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yep, a little bit. It's good having. Having heart. Somebody

Speaker:

that wants to not just, you know, not

Speaker:

innings, go home. So cool.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So you. You're a Pirates fan?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I. So I. My dad and the whole

Speaker:

Dye family grew up in. In Franklin,

Speaker:

Pennsylvania.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Cool.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Um, story that I'm sure we'll get into later.

Speaker:

My dad actually has the car that

Speaker:

Roberto Clemente won when he

Speaker:

won the MVP, the World Series in 71 to

Speaker:

1972. Dodge

Speaker:

Charger SE. Um,

Speaker:

and I'm sure we'll get into that. We got time for that. But.

Speaker:

So, yeah, Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins,

Speaker:

Steelers, and then Orlando Magic.

Speaker:

But it's, uh, yeah, I'll

Speaker:

Pittsburgh around here.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So. Are you related to Pete?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No. I know. I wish. No, that'd be. That would have

Speaker:

been cool. We can say yes for the sake of the podcast.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I just get it.

Speaker:

>> RB: Pete Dust. Stepson.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, Well, I was gonna say that redheaded stepchild. This is

Speaker:

his. Uh, he just came out. He just got his DNA tested,

Speaker:

and apparently he's related to Pete.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I saw something don't do 23andMe. So I'll hit up

Speaker:

ancestry.com and see if we can, uh, we'll

Speaker:

check it out.

Speaker:

>> RB: So let's go. Because we met

Speaker:

you because of Neil Walker. Played, um, for the

Speaker:

Pirates forever. He was your childhood favorite

Speaker:

player, which is kind of a cool story. Um. Um, and

Speaker:

you guys just recently played golf in Pinehurst, and he was telling me

Speaker:

about the Roberto Clemente, um,

Speaker:

car that your father has. How the heck did

Speaker:

he acquire that? And does he still, like. Does

Speaker:

it. Does he use it still?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No.

Speaker:

>> RB: Just sit there.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No. So when it was first. When it was

Speaker:

first done, um, he did drive

Speaker:

it, like, maybe one mile, maybe

Speaker:

two. Um, but no, it only drives

Speaker:

on and off the trailer. But so the story of

Speaker:

that is. So the

Speaker:

car. That car is actually what Roberto drove to the

Speaker:

airport, um, on what, New Year's

Speaker:

Eve, um, when the plane crashed.

Speaker:

And, um, so it sat at the

Speaker:

airport for a while and eventually came home,

Speaker:

um, and sat in their home

Speaker:

country for. For that long. For what, until.

Speaker:

When was the All Star game in Miami?

Speaker:

2016. 14 ish.

Speaker:

17.

Speaker:

>> RB: 2016 ish.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: Not sure.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: And.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, no idea. Um, sounds good.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Uh, it just. It sat there all that time, and they had

Speaker:

talked about it a Little bit. And he tells a story a lot better than I do.

Speaker:

But, um, it sat there and they

Speaker:

were gonna try to get on a boat, but a boat

Speaker:

takes longer. And eventually it's like the week

Speaker:

of, or the week before the auction that they

Speaker:

do, um, at the All Star Game every year to, you

Speaker:

know, self signed bat sign, baseballs, jerseys,

Speaker:

you know, memorabilia and stuff. And

Speaker:

the car is on the, on the, uh,

Speaker:

list of things they're gonna sell.

Speaker:

And my dad saw that. Actually my sister was looking through,

Speaker:

looking for a father's, uh, day present.

Speaker:

My dad's birthday is around Father's Day too. So,

Speaker:

um, she saw that, she's like, hey, look at this. And he was

Speaker:

like, well, all that's wrong. It said it was a

Speaker:

1971 Dodge Charger, which is

Speaker:

1972, because it was, you know, the end of the year,

Speaker:

it's like, we'll get, we'll start seeing 20,

Speaker:

26 cars coming out soon. Um,

Speaker:

and anyways, long story short, it's on an

Speaker:

airplane, on a cargo plane coming over to the

Speaker:

States, um, coming to Miami.

Speaker:

And then they wouldn't let it in the building because the All Star Game was

Speaker:

sponsored by Chevrolet and it was a Dodge. And they

Speaker:

said it's a 1972 Dodge.

Speaker:

It's 50 years old. Why does it matter

Speaker:

now? Um, anyways, wasn't in the

Speaker:

building. He's bidding against the owner of the

Speaker:

Clemente Museum in, in Pittsburgh

Speaker:

in Garth Brooks. And,

Speaker:

uh, and I just fought

Speaker:

for what was generally

Speaker:

not a very nice car at the time. Um,

Speaker:

and then threw all, all sorts of, uh,

Speaker:

not all sorts, but, but threw a decent bit of money at it

Speaker:

to make it look like brand new, just like it does in all the

Speaker:

pictures with Roberto and, uh, his wife

Speaker:

standing next to the car when, when they had it. So there's a bunch of cool pictures

Speaker:

that he's got. It actually sits in the showroom. He

Speaker:

owns dealerships, uh, in Daytona. Sits right in front of his

Speaker:

office. Um, it's covered up every month like a

Speaker:

custom car cover with pictures of, of

Speaker:

Roberto doing charitable work and he and his wife standing

Speaker:

with the car. Um, but on the

Speaker:

21st of every month. So three days

Speaker:

ago it was uncovered, um,

Speaker:

and it's uncovered on the 21st every month. But

Speaker:

it's a pretty, pretty cool thing. It's his most prized

Speaker:

possession.

Speaker:

>> RB: That's so cool.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: That's a great story. I'm glad, I'm glad you took time to answer

Speaker:

that question because

Speaker:

you don't like, how would you end up with that

Speaker:

car.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: There's the story.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Crazy in my. Roberto is my dad's hero. Growing up

Speaker:

being, you know, just all he did was play

Speaker:

baseball. Actually golfed a lot, uh, when he was a kid. But,

Speaker:

um, my dad was born in 1960, so that's,

Speaker:

you know, when he's a kid, that's Roberto's

Speaker:

obviously the guy on the Pirates. So. Yeah, um,

Speaker:

that was, uh, was just.

Speaker:

>> RB: Something that's always an incredible story.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: And his whole office, he's got Roberto jumping

Speaker:

to catch a ball on the biggest wall in his office,

Speaker:

like, kind of like a. That's not a mirror, a mural.

Speaker:

It's like a wrap of the picture. But,

Speaker:

um, yeah, I mean, it's just still

Speaker:

the biggest Roberto Clementic fan to this day

Speaker:

and. And kind of lives. Roberto said something when he was

Speaker:

playing and doing all. He did a lot of charitable work, and it was something

Speaker:

along the lines. And I'm sure we could look it up and get it exactly.

Speaker:

But if you. If you're on the

Speaker:

earth and you don't make any change,

Speaker:

you don't spend time doing something to make

Speaker:

other people's lives better than you wasted your time. And

Speaker:

whatever the actual quote is, is up, um, in my dad's office,

Speaker:

too. That's kind of how my dad lives. And

Speaker:

he's been through stuff where he was, you know, health problems as

Speaker:

a child and real close to, um, not being

Speaker:

able to go any further. And, um, just

Speaker:

that's. That kind of has inspired him to do a lot of good work. So. The

Speaker:

car has raised hundreds of

Speaker:

thousands of dollars for charitable work. Franklin

Speaker:

Little League looks the way it does right now because of the Clemente car

Speaker:

and the money that we raised with it. Redid the fences and the

Speaker:

scoreboard just redid Franklin Little League,

Speaker:

um, couple different charities up there, a couple charities

Speaker:

back home in Daytona Beach. But, um, man,

Speaker:

it's. It's a.

Speaker:

It's a cool thing. 71 MVP, Inc. Is actually the name

Speaker:

of the charitable organization that,

Speaker:

um, kind of operates what the Clemente car

Speaker:

does.

Speaker:

>> RB: So has the Roberto Clemente

Speaker:

Museum tried to get this car off of him since.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So we. The part of the deal was, once it was

Speaker:

finished, my dad brought it up there and let it sit in the museum

Speaker:

for might, um, have been a week

Speaker:

or two or something. But they. They put on the radio,

Speaker:

and it was known that it was there. So a lot of people came. And that

Speaker:

was part. I think we had an event right after it was

Speaker:

first done. We had an event there, uh, at the

Speaker:

museum, had an event,

Speaker:

um, at some

Speaker:

auditorium kind of place, uh, in Franklin.

Speaker:

And that's where we got a lot of the money for the,

Speaker:

um, Little League fields.

Speaker:

Um, but, yeah, I mean, it's done a lot of cool

Speaker:

stuff. We gave away a yellow and black Dodge

Speaker:

Demon. When the Dodge Demons first came out and raffled it

Speaker:

off, I think I forgot how many tickets we sold. But at 210

Speaker:

a piece for a ticket, um, it just. It's

Speaker:

a lot of. A lot of cool stuff. And you. It'd be cool if y'all had

Speaker:

my dad on, too, that he. He'd tell a story a lot

Speaker:

better. Um, and also a much better golfer than

Speaker:

I am, too.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, you know what? Yeah, I mean, but

Speaker:

you're the man.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: He. I've gone faster than he has, so

Speaker:

that's. There's that.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So are you, like, pro?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: What?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Pep. Go ahead.

Speaker:

>> RB: Oh, I was gonna say real quick, did Neil tell you

Speaker:

the story about his dad with Roberto

Speaker:

Conte?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So that's the craziest part of the who.

Speaker:

So me and my grandma

Speaker:

would watch a lot of baseball games together, whether we're at,

Speaker:

you know, lunch after church or at our house or

Speaker:

whatever. And always,

Speaker:

Neil was my favorite player, and so was hers. Even

Speaker:

when he went to other teams, we still

Speaker:

rooted for whatever Neil had going on. And then the Pirates.

Speaker:

Um, and then I meet a

Speaker:

guy at a race. Mid Ohio.

Speaker:

2023 NASCAR Truck

Speaker:

Series race at Mid Ohio. I'm standing talking to my friend

Speaker:

Colby Howard. He was running. I forget what truck he was

Speaker:

running. He was also racing that weekend, though.

Speaker:

Um, and Colin Dunlap,

Speaker:

who does radio in Pittsburgh,

Speaker:

was, um, there, and his son Declan is standing there with a

Speaker:

hat, waiting for me to sign it, and I can

Speaker:

talk to Colby later. So I just kind of shoot Colby away and

Speaker:

signed Declan's hat and start talking to him.

Speaker:

Dude, I kind of do the same thing for a lot of people when I

Speaker:

have the time to actually talk to the fans, you know, where y'all

Speaker:

from? Um, in college

Speaker:

said, Pittsburgh. That's cool. We're all Pirates, Steelers,

Speaker:

Penguins fans. Neil Walker's my favorite baseball player.

Speaker:

And college, like, oh, yeah, I know Neil,

Speaker:

right? Yeah, right? You know Neil Walker. Okay.

Speaker:

And anyways, and I actually don't

Speaker:

even have. I don't have any social media at this point.

Speaker:

I log into my Instagram, like, once every two

Speaker:

weeks, see if anything cool happened. And I log in that

Speaker:

Monday morning, and Neil Walker

Speaker:

follows me on Instagram. This is the

Speaker:

weird. And. And honestly, like,

Speaker:

I. I always idolized Neil. I had

Speaker:

signed Jersey baseball in my room forever.

Speaker:

And. And he had, like. I don't know, what is, like

Speaker:

15,000 followers. Like, that's weird. Like,

Speaker:

that's a lot of followers. But Neil Walker, I'm

Speaker:

like, I thought it'd be more. So I text him, like, if this

Speaker:

isn't fake, this is the coolest thing that's ever happened in my

Speaker:

life. And he's like, no,

Speaker:

it's me. Colin told me about it.

Speaker:

Uh, told me that you mentioned me when y'all were talking at the

Speaker:

race and yada, yada, yada. And, um,

Speaker:

man, that is the coolest thing ever.

Speaker:

And. And I told my dad about it. And,

Speaker:

um, then he told me the. The Clemente story about, you

Speaker:

know, Neil's dad is supposed to be on that plane.

Speaker:

>> RB: It's crazy.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So it's weird that, like, Roberto

Speaker:

Clemente, where

Speaker:

we're gonna get crazy here is the reason that Neil Walker is

Speaker:

my favorite baseball player.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: Wow.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So it's connecting the dots.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: That was just kind of a sign. I felt

Speaker:

like it was a sign for my grandma. Right? Like, my grandma kind

Speaker:

of checking in. And, um,

Speaker:

I don't know. It was. It. It was cool. And then when Neil asked me to

Speaker:

golf a couple weeks ago, I was again,

Speaker:

like, this is just

Speaker:

crazy stuff.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: That's the type of guy Neil is, man. Neil

Speaker:

is, without a doubt, one

Speaker:

of the best humans walking the earth.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No doubt about it. That's. That's just the type of

Speaker:

guy he is.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: It was kind of disappointing how cool he was.

Speaker:

Like, uh. He was like the normal dude. He's supposed to, like,

Speaker:

fly away at the end is what I expected. Like, I figured he was

Speaker:

gonna, like, you know, probably just take off after we

Speaker:

go. Yeah. And he, uh.

Speaker:

And, I mean, no, we got

Speaker:

there, he was, like, excited to see me. Like, that made

Speaker:

no sense. Like, who am I? And,

Speaker:

uh. And then, you know, he spent four hours

Speaker:

golfing. And again, I'm like, still.

Speaker:

Like, I. I remember being at spring. We go to spring training every year

Speaker:

and screaming at all the

Speaker:

players. Right? But I'd always. I thought I was so cool as a little

Speaker:

kid. Mr. Walker, Mr.

Speaker:

McCutcheon. Like, they ain't gonna. They're not gonna ditch.

Speaker:

Oh. Because I'm being polite. They're gonna come sign my hat. No.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Uh, but it was,

Speaker:

uh, finally, you know, all these years later,

Speaker:

I caught up to him. So it was, uh. It was cool.

Speaker:

Golfed, went to the brewery. Uh, the.

Speaker:

The Pinehurst Brewery at, uh.

Speaker:

It's like 10 minutes from the golf course, went to a little Italian

Speaker:

restaurant, um, afterwards.

Speaker:

And, I mean, just like you said, the coolest dude

Speaker:

down to Earth. I mean,

Speaker:

was. It was. It was pretty wild. And then just still

Speaker:

texting. Um, I'm gonna text him and tell him that I was doing the podcast. I'm

Speaker:

sure he already did, but, uh, but I mean, just

Speaker:

super cool dude. Looking, Looking forward. I'm trying to get him to

Speaker:

race.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I know. Yeah, that would be dope, man.

Speaker:

And. And, you know, that's one thing I got to be honest. And I don't know about

Speaker:

Pep, but, like, I. I've

Speaker:

watched races. They're on tv. Kind of

Speaker:

turn it on, you hear the sounds. Everyone says going there is a

Speaker:

completely different experience, uh, which I've

Speaker:

never done. So that is something that I need to do while

Speaker:

I'm. I'm walking on Earth.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You're always, always welcome, man. It is. It is absolutely

Speaker:

a. A crazy experience.

Speaker:

Um, we actually had Alvin Kamara

Speaker:

hanging out with the team this weekend. Uh, you know, the football

Speaker:

player, he was hanging out, uh, at Homestead this weekend.

Speaker:

David Ortiz was there Sunday.

Speaker:

Um, but, yeah, man, just a. Just a cool

Speaker:

experience. I grew up being a race fan. Um, and,

Speaker:

you know, finally, at this point, I'm. I'm

Speaker:

doing what I've always dreamed of doing. But, um, yeah, I

Speaker:

mean, on tv, you see the cars going fast, but

Speaker:

until they blast by at 200 miles

Speaker:

an hour, and you watch them put a full tank of gas

Speaker:

and four tires on it in nine seconds.

Speaker:

Ah. And you're standing 30ft away from those guys doing

Speaker:

it. Um, you. You don't really.

Speaker:

You get a. You get a good sense for what's going on when you get to

Speaker:

experience it in person.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So you mentioned the Dodge earlier, and then you mentioned the

Speaker:

Dodge with you. So are you. Are you, like, pro Dodge?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I am not. I race for Chevrolet

Speaker:

and drive a Chevy

Speaker:

Suburban. So it is. Uh, it's. It's a

Speaker:

little. It's a little awkward driving, driving home to Daytona

Speaker:

beach, and when, uh, I go see my dad at the dealership, park there

Speaker:

in a Suburban. But, uh, no, glad to be a part of

Speaker:

the. The bow tie brigade.

Speaker:

Um, but yeah, I'm a

Speaker:

happy, uh, member of Team Chevy.

Speaker:

>> RB: And where do you live at right now? Are you in North Carolina

Speaker:

or.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, Concord, North Carolina. So about 20

Speaker:

minutes north of Charlotte.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Pep had an Impala once.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah, boys.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: He loved it.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Oh, yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So, yeah, I mean,

Speaker:

in North Carolina, it is kind of race heavy population,

Speaker:

dude. What. What kind of got you into that, though? I'm just curious because

Speaker:

you're young. You. How old are you? 21.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: 21. Yeah. Well, and, but yeah, I

Speaker:

know my friend. My family's from Pittsburgh,

Speaker:

but so I. My dad's story, he, you know, started

Speaker:

washing cars. Lot Porter selling cars.

Speaker:

Uh, manager of a dealership. Finally got his own dealership. So

Speaker:

cars have always been in the D family in your life.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I got.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: My uncle owns a Nissan dealership.

Speaker:

The. Another uncle works for my dad. Another

Speaker:

uncle is a finance manager at a dealership in

Speaker:

Pennsylvania. So it's all cars

Speaker:

always been race fans. Um, my Dad's

Speaker:

first Daytona 500 was

Speaker:

1970, something with my grandpa.

Speaker:

Um, and then just kind of worked his way to Daytona beach.

Speaker:

So came to Daytona 500 as a race fan.

Speaker:

Eventually ran a dealership in Huntsville,

Speaker:

Alabama. Made his way to Daytona. Once he started making

Speaker:

money, uh, he kind of raced as a hobby. And then

Speaker:

at that point, when I was. I think I was

Speaker:

7 or 8 when I started. So it's just kind of one of those things.

Speaker:

You're just like, you put your kid in T ball. My dad

Speaker:

put me in T ball too, but put, uh, me in a race car

Speaker:

pretty quick too.

Speaker:

>> RB: So when did you start, like, driving?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, I was seven. Was like my first seven or eight, I

Speaker:

think. I think I practiced at seven and started racing at

Speaker:

eight. Um, but small cars, nothing like big like

Speaker:

it's on the street. But at 14 is when I started

Speaker:

racing like full body stock cars.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, Bash was still building Legos at 14. You're out

Speaker:

there driving.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I'm still building Legos at 21, so that's okay.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, but I mean,

Speaker:

that's insane to me. No, it is. And

Speaker:

what I'm, um. It's got to just be in your

Speaker:

blood. That's all I can say because it's

Speaker:

got to be in your blood because there is a risk factor

Speaker:

in this whole profession. I mean,

Speaker:

you know, you're going how fast you going, you know what I mean?

Speaker:

Something can go wrong. But at the end of the day, this is your

Speaker:

passion, this is your love, and this is what you're good at.

Speaker:

And so that's what I'm saying for you, it's like innate. It's

Speaker:

kind of like it was in your blood.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I mean, it. I think,

Speaker:

you know, I played a lot of sports growing up. I played

Speaker:

baseball, basketball, and race. I played a little bit of like flag

Speaker:

football in middle school. Um, baseball is

Speaker:

probably my best sport and the one that I probably enjoyed

Speaker:

the most um, until it

Speaker:

got time to like, really commit to one and for whatever

Speaker:

reason it was racing.

Speaker:

Um, and uh,

Speaker:

and man, it, it's something that

Speaker:

I, I maybe didn't fall in love with

Speaker:

immediately. But. And honestly

Speaker:

this, uh, about a year ago

Speaker:

is when I kind of switched. I've been racing forever

Speaker:

obviously, but about a year ago I kind of switched my

Speaker:

whole mentality to go with racing and

Speaker:

my work ethic and the whole thing. This is the most in love

Speaker:

with it I've ever been. And

Speaker:

you're right, there is a, there is a risk factor, right?

Speaker:

There's. Things can, can go wrong. You can crash,

Speaker:

you can hit a wall. I mean, I've had a couple

Speaker:

concussions. I mean, people, people get hurt

Speaker:

sometimes, but people get hurt playing

Speaker:

baseball. People get hurt fishing

Speaker:

wiffle ball.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, I can have my ankle playing wiffle ball.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Um, you can get hurt doing

Speaker:

anything. So for me,

Speaker:

honestly, in the race car,

Speaker:

especially like on a long green flag run, we just raced

Speaker:

Homestead Saturday. We ran the last

Speaker:

until caution was seven to go. We ran

Speaker:

100 some laps straight.

Speaker:

40ish second lap times. That's

Speaker:

quite a bit of time you're dialed in,

Speaker:

focused on getting every tenth of a second out of your

Speaker:

lap. That is the most

Speaker:

peaceful my life ever

Speaker:

is, is going what, 170

Speaker:

miles an hour down the straightaway, getting on the

Speaker:

brakes, getting the car turned back in the gas, just

Speaker:

doing it over and over and over again. There's

Speaker:

nothing right. I've got, I've got my helmet on, I've got my

Speaker:

earbuds in. My spotter is telling me where the other cars

Speaker:

are if, if needed, lap time, stuff like

Speaker:

that. But I'm, I'm not thinking

Speaker:

about anything. I'm not. There's nothing on my

Speaker:

mind but what is going on in that moment.

Speaker:

>> RB: So you have like, basically like earbuds in

Speaker:

AirPods.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: And you have somebody that's telling you, hey, car

Speaker:

three's left side.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Yep. So we've got.

Speaker:

There's a lot of radio activity, um, during

Speaker:

a race. So we've got. On channel

Speaker:

one is myself, my

Speaker:

spotter, my crew chief, and then

Speaker:

occasionally the, the guy that runs our team, his name

Speaker:

is Chris Rice. He'll come on there and say some things,

Speaker:

um, if he feels the need to.

Speaker:

Um, and then that's all I have

Speaker:

access to. Channel 2 is where the

Speaker:

spotter and the crew chief will talk to not really clutter up the radio

Speaker:

that I hear. Um, and Chris Rice will talk on

Speaker:

there a little bit more too. And that's where more detailed

Speaker:

information is said. And then what the spotter deems necessary to

Speaker:

tell me, he'll tell me on channel one. Now, the spotter

Speaker:

has access to both of those at the same time.

Speaker:

Um, and then the crew chief has access

Speaker:

to both of those. And then, like, a little intercom system

Speaker:

where we communicate with our teammates. So I drive the 10 car. We

Speaker:

have the 11 and the 16 that also race in the NASCAR

Speaker:

xfinity series under colleague racing. Um, and those

Speaker:

crew chiefs talk to each other at the same time with Chris and the

Speaker:

engineers. Um, so there's a lot of radio

Speaker:

stuff, but, yeah, I'll have, I'll have

Speaker:

my earbuds in. They're molded to my ears. Generally,

Speaker:

no sound gets in. Uh, then I'll put my head

Speaker:

sock on. Fireproof headstock. Kind of protects my neck. Goes down

Speaker:

to about here. Ish. Uh, helmet

Speaker:

on. I'll plug my earbuds into the

Speaker:

helmet. The helmet has a cord that plugs into the

Speaker:

wiring harness, uh, for the radios.

Speaker:

Um, and then I've got a button on my steering wheel. It's a push a talk. And

Speaker:

I got a microphone inside my helmet, so when I need to

Speaker:

talk, I push the button. They hear me just like a, Just like a headset, like you see in

Speaker:

the movies.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. It's fascinating because this is not anything

Speaker:

that I've ever been, like, privy to. So, um, I'm just

Speaker:

curious. I got so many questions in my mind. I'm, like, thinking about this,

Speaker:

but, like, you know, the main question is, like,

Speaker:

you get road rage, but, like, I would like to

Speaker:

know what you. What it's like driving with you on the

Speaker:

interstate.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah. Like how.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, the road rage thing. Sometimes I. My road rage

Speaker:

on the, on the streets is

Speaker:

a lot more fun than the road rage in the race

Speaker:

car because I, I, I can

Speaker:

control the car, and if somebody's being an idiot. I had a guy the other week,

Speaker:

like, we had to merge, and he's just not letting

Speaker:

me in. So I kind of just made room and sucked my way in,

Speaker:

and I get the double bird in the mirror.

Speaker:

So, like, the only reasonable thing to

Speaker:

do in that situation is slam on the brakes.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah, right.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Um, and then he. We're

Speaker:

going the same direction for a minute.

Speaker:

Um, and. And

Speaker:

then I go in the turn lane, and he's gonna

Speaker:

keep going. He stops next to me and rolls down the window.

Speaker:

He's like, you want to pull over? And I went down the window. And

Speaker:

I normally just, like, look at him crazy and

Speaker:

make him think that I've got something wrong with me or something.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: And I'm like, all right, yeah, let's do it.

Speaker:

I'm £150. I will never pull

Speaker:

over. I will lose every

Speaker:

fight. But I knew he wasn't gonna do

Speaker:

anything, too, and I kind of cranked the wheel and he drove away. That's the fun.

Speaker:

But in the race car, road rage is a whole

Speaker:

different thing. There's a lot more at stake in a race car. When people

Speaker:

are stupid at 180 miles an hour versus 50,

Speaker:

it's a little bit of a different ball game. Yeah, it, uh,

Speaker:

hurts more. Uh, it costs Matt

Speaker:

Colleague money. It costs me money for what

Speaker:

I'm getting paid for where I finish. That, uh, it

Speaker:

cost us points because we're racing for a championship.

Speaker:

So, um, that you. You kind of keep

Speaker:

a notebook. Um, you know,

Speaker:

who's done what when. Um, you

Speaker:

raise some guys a little bit differently that maybe

Speaker:

race a little more aggressively.

Speaker:

Um, and then some guys, you race with a lot

Speaker:

more respect. Um, so it's,

Speaker:

uh, like I said, the Notebook thing is, is real.

Speaker:

You'll hear, if you'll hear.

Speaker:

Go to a race and something happens. You'll hear about the. The

Speaker:

Notebook. Um, race car drivers with their helmets on

Speaker:

are kind of like elephants. We never forget. Uh, there's people

Speaker:

that I still owe a couple. Um, but it's

Speaker:

not like you go out the next week and wreck them right away.

Speaker:

You. You get them when it matters. Um, you're not going to

Speaker:

go wreck somebody for 12. But if we're. We're coming to line for a

Speaker:

win and you wreck me, uh, let's

Speaker:

see. I'm not going to be

Speaker:

specific, but there's one specific thing that I'm thinking

Speaker:

about. But if you wreck me this amount of years ago

Speaker:

at this half mile

Speaker:

in Indiana, then,

Speaker:

uh, and we're coming to the start finish line

Speaker:

for a win.

Speaker:

>> RB: Right.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Uh, I'm probably gonna race you a little bit differently because there's

Speaker:

some history there. So.

Speaker:

>> RB: So can you communicate?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I'm Googling that.

Speaker:

>> RB: Other drivers or no, no.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So you used to be able to. There was like a

Speaker:

year where they had. You could go to a different

Speaker:

radio, and it was just an all drivers channel.

Speaker:

>> RB: Just chirping. Everybody chirping.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. That was like, a mess. So, like at Daytona,

Speaker:

Talladega, you see everybody's drafting. So,

Speaker:

yeah, the draft is where, like, two cars will get

Speaker:

in line or however many you can. And what

Speaker:

happens there is like, this car will take

Speaker:

air off this So a bubble kind of forms around

Speaker:

your race car. When you're going 180 miles an hour with

Speaker:

the resistance of the body in the air,

Speaker:

you'll come with that bubble to the car in front of you. That bubble kind

Speaker:

of take air off the spoiler of the car in front of

Speaker:

you, giving them less drag.

Speaker:

Now you're in their wake, having less drag on your nose.

Speaker:

It's just all it does is create less air resistance, helps

Speaker:

you go faster. Um,

Speaker:

so. But you have to work together. You have to kind of have

Speaker:

friends. Um, and they used to do that.

Speaker:

They used to have a channel where you could go and, hey,

Speaker:

24 car, you know, we're ready to

Speaker:

try something different here. If you want to go to the top lane, we're ready for you.

Speaker:

Um, but they went away with that. That's. I'm sure it

Speaker:

got messy at some point. It would. I. I'll tell you, there's a lot of people that

Speaker:

don't like each other in the XFINITY series. It'd get.

Speaker:

It'd probably get messy. Now.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I was just gonna say, do they not like each other on the track, but outside

Speaker:

of the track, they're copacetic. Cool. Or is it like

Speaker:

globally? They just like this guy. He's a douche.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: There's. There's some of that. Uh, there's both ways,

Speaker:

right? So the worst,

Speaker:

the best example that unfortunately, is the worst

Speaker:

for me. My best

Speaker:

friend, Jesse Love, he drives a two car for Richard

Speaker:

Childress. He won Daytona this year.

Speaker:

First race of the year. He. He won Daytona.

Speaker:

Um, we started 12th,

Speaker:

right? In about 10th lap, four.

Speaker:

Uh, he gave a little bit of a bad push.

Speaker:

Nothing intentional, but wrecked the 20

Speaker:

car. Brandon Jones, yellow Menards car.

Speaker:

And I'm running the top lane, and he wrecks the car and it

Speaker:

shoots right. And the only other car that it

Speaker:

hits is the 10 car.

Speaker:

And so I'm wrecked out on lap four.

Speaker:

And at that point, I hated race

Speaker:

car driver Jesse Love. But

Speaker:

human being Jesse Love is still my friend. And, uh,

Speaker:

I'm still generally happy that he

Speaker:

won. Less happy because of what happened.

Speaker:

Um, but obviously he didn't mean to. And he and I have talked about it

Speaker:

since. But yeah, there's. There's. When you

Speaker:

put your helmet on, friendship kind of goes out the window. I've got.

Speaker:

Connor Zillich is a friend of mine. He drives the

Speaker:

88 car for. For Dale Jr.

Speaker:

Um, but he's not. Jesse's kind of my

Speaker:

teammate. Our team and Richard Childress racing kind of Work

Speaker:

together. So I race Jesse with

Speaker:

more lenience than other

Speaker:

cars that aren't our teammates or whatever. Um,

Speaker:

so Connor and I are friends, but I'm not necessarily

Speaker:

going to race him like a teammate. I'll race him a little bit nicer because

Speaker:

he's my friend. Maybe um, like

Speaker:

a Ford or Toyota. I'm, um, I'm gonna.

Speaker:

It's gonna be impossible to pass me and.

Speaker:

And I'm gonna do whatever it takes to get around you.

Speaker:

>> RB: I'll tell you this much. There's nothing like a NASCAR

Speaker:

brawl. Boys like after the

Speaker:

race and one of the drivers confronts another

Speaker:

driver and then all hell breaks loose and everybody's

Speaker:

involved.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, there's some, there's some good old boys in the, in the, in

Speaker:

the garage area. The like Austin Hill

Speaker:

that is. He's from Georgia. He's probably

Speaker:

205 pounds. Just, just

Speaker:

big, ready to rock. And uh,

Speaker:

that is not a guy that I have any intention of pissing off

Speaker:

anytime soon.

Speaker:

>> RB: So what I. What I don't. Ryan, I don't know if you know

Speaker:

this either, but he. Dan.

Speaker:

Daniel flies private too. Like he's a

Speaker:

pilot and uh, he flies to a lot of

Speaker:

his races, um, which is really cool. So

Speaker:

I mean you've got like Fast and Furious in you,

Speaker:

man.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: The plane thing is a whole lot different though. That is a lot

Speaker:

scarier than the race car. I'm m going like half the

Speaker:

speed, but it hurts

Speaker:

to fall down on the ground if you're in the air. So you got to

Speaker:

be a lot more careful in the airplane. There's a lot more going on.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Are ah, you flying solo?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I am now. So I actually have not finished my license

Speaker:

yet. I haven't. I've flown to a couple races,

Speaker:

um, but not by myself yet. Uh, I'm gonna finish my

Speaker:

license here now that it's warming up in Charlotte.

Speaker:

Um, but uh, yeah,

Speaker:

I've done all it takes to fly solo. I actually fly to

Speaker:

Pinehurst is where I do most of my solos.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: It's um, like more county.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: 60 nautical miles. So yeah, fly from

Speaker:

Concord to Moore County Airport.

Speaker:

>> RB: Sticks in there every time and peg.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: It up or what I have twice. Yeah, I've just thrown them in the back

Speaker:

seat of a Cessna 172. Tell my instructor I'm

Speaker:

going to solo and uh,

Speaker:

yeah, fly right over the golf course coming in from. From

Speaker:

Concord too.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You should. I uh, had two buddies

Speaker:

in my life that get a little bit of road rage.

Speaker:

One of them is actually. It's probably a

Speaker:

problem. You be in a car with him, and he

Speaker:

just starts. It's like. I don't know if it's like

Speaker:

a Tourette's type situation with people. I don't know.

Speaker:

I'm serious. But. But the other person

Speaker:

is in this chat right now, my man Pep. I.

Speaker:

I can't tell you how many times he'll call

Speaker:

me. It's like he's calling me because

Speaker:

he wants to be on the phone with someone while he's about

Speaker:

to just tackle someone going 65 in the

Speaker:

passing lane. Like, he calls me last week and

Speaker:

says, hey, there's this guy, you know, and he's

Speaker:

chirping at me about something. I'm giving him the

Speaker:

finger. I'm yelling at him. I'm doing all this

Speaker:

shit. Listen. You can hear him yelling. Listen. So I'm

Speaker:

listening.

Speaker:

>> RB: I'm, um.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I'm like. I don't. I don't hear him yelling, bud. But.

Speaker:

But he eggs people on all the time, Weaving him

Speaker:

in and out the finger

Speaker:

out.

Speaker:

>> RB: I just drive. I drive so much for what I do in my

Speaker:

life. And I just. I. I'm sure you feel the same way. You just

Speaker:

don't have time for these people, right? Like, you drive like a jerk

Speaker:

off.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Rolling 55 in the left lane. That's the one that gets

Speaker:

me.

Speaker:

>> RB: Well, that. But I'll tell you, it really bothers me, this

Speaker:

move. Oh, my God. Wears me out.

Speaker:

Is nobody like the sign, the big sign

Speaker:

that says yield when you're coming off an exit,

Speaker:

and nobody knows what.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yield means at the

Speaker:

same time?

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah, I can't get over. So you're getting mad at me. I

Speaker:

can't get over. You're supposed to, like, technically slow

Speaker:

down. Here we

Speaker:

are. And that's whenever I, um. That's when I start letting

Speaker:

him fly.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: My thing is when people are going slow in the left lane, I'll get in front of

Speaker:

them, slow down enough that they have to try and

Speaker:

pass me, and then they move. I'll finally gas it up and

Speaker:

go away. Just to, like. That's like, I'm as a good

Speaker:

Samaritan to the people coming behind me.

Speaker:

>> RB: So you talk about these cars wrecking,

Speaker:

okay. In these NASCAR cars.

Speaker:

How much does one of these cars cost? Or what's

Speaker:

the range of,

Speaker:

uh, a car?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, that. I don't know. Um,

Speaker:

it's a. It's a difficult question. And I'm gonna

Speaker:

guess that, like, a. The. The

Speaker:

quality of cars that we put together,

Speaker:

after we pay the people to make the chassis, we pay the

Speaker:

engine shop, we. You Know,

Speaker:

pay the body shop. So,

Speaker:

like, after we put the bodies on, they put the suspension

Speaker:

on. M. Gosh, um,

Speaker:

engine.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, you're talking like half a million dollars

Speaker:

here.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No, I don't think that far, but

Speaker:

I don't think we're far from a

Speaker:

quarter.

Speaker:

>> RB: Oh, wow.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: It's all. By the time it's all put together.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: But I don't know. I. I really. It's just.

Speaker:

It's difficult because. And you can do it cheaper and you

Speaker:

can. You really can't do it a whole lot more expensive than how

Speaker:

we do it. Um, but you can do it cheaper. So we've got

Speaker:

the best engines, we've got the best parts, we've got the best

Speaker:

bodies. Um,

Speaker:

so it's, uh. Yeah, I mean,

Speaker:

but all the good teams are throwing all their

Speaker:

money at all the same things. So. Yeah, I mean,

Speaker:

I. I guess if. If

Speaker:

you. If you wanted to build one

Speaker:

perfect car, by the time you paid everybody and

Speaker:

bought what you needed to probably 250

Speaker:

ish in. But that's a guess.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: And their light is. I mean, they don't weigh a damn

Speaker:

thing.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Uh,

Speaker:

3250 is

Speaker:

what we have to weigh. We take the green flag.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Wow, that's pretty. That's

Speaker:

pretty awesome. It's good stuff.

Speaker:

>> RB: So how do you. Again, like, how Ryan kind

Speaker:

of asked you, but, like, how are you driving 200 miles

Speaker:

an hour, then you go and get in the car at 65 miles an hour.

Speaker:

How. Or like when you're driving a golf cart, are

Speaker:

you like, what? Like, I can get a run fast.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Golf cart? What's going on with that?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: The golf cart. The golf cart one is fun because then you're just. You just run

Speaker:

into your buddies. I mean, you're not. If, If Ben Bridgers

Speaker:

from Pinehurst is listening. I don't run into anybody in a

Speaker:

Pinehurst golf cart bin. I promise. But,

Speaker:

uh, I, uh. I mean, I don't know. It's just

Speaker:

different. Right? I mean, I don't. I'm not. Honestly, I'm not a huge

Speaker:

car guy. Uh, that's. That's the one

Speaker:

kind of misconception that, like, when I talk to fans for

Speaker:

a minute or whatever, they, you know, I have a.

Speaker:

Something. So I like. I don't know. I don't even know how to.

Speaker:

>> RB: I don't know if that is, um.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Like I, I like I said, I've got a

Speaker:

Suburban. Um, that's what I

Speaker:

drive. I like big cars.

Speaker:

Um, I've got a Tahoe coming.

Speaker:

>> RB: Those are the new Tahoes are sick.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, that's what I got. A red one all blacked out.

Speaker:

Um, but red paint. Um, because all. Most of my cars are

Speaker:

red with champion container. Um,

Speaker:

but, uh, yeah, I mean, I go as fast as

Speaker:

I need to on the weekends and slow it down a little bit. Obviously. I like

Speaker:

to get places quick.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: But I'm not. I'm not going 100, bobbing and

Speaker:

weaving through lanes. But I, you know, set the cruise to

Speaker:

82, 83, and just ride down to wherever I'm going.

Speaker:

This is kind of like the opposite of if you're getting chased by an

Speaker:

alligator, as long as you're not the fastest guy,

Speaker:

then.

Speaker:

>> RB: But you're the smartest, so.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Sure.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah, you gotta be smart.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Some would disagree. Some of my competitors probably

Speaker:

disagree.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I. I do enjoy having the radar

Speaker:

detector, though. A couple of the whips.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, nobody but the.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: They got the laser now. That's how they get you. They like. It doesn't. It doesn't

Speaker:

read the laser.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, this one? Yeah, this one picks up the laser,

Speaker:

though.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Oh, does it?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: How much was it?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Like 700?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Oh, yeah. I spent 200 on mine. Mine does not pick up a

Speaker:

laser.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, mine picks up laser. And I

Speaker:

don't speed, but sometimes I like to hit it and feel it a little

Speaker:

bit. In West Virginia, I think if you. If

Speaker:

you get caught speeding over 100 miles an hour,

Speaker:

and maybe this is a. Maybe this is. Maybe this is a

Speaker:

law across the country. I don't know. But I

Speaker:

know, I know in West Virginia, if you get caught

Speaker:

going over a hundo, you're

Speaker:

automatically going to jail.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I thought it was. I think, and I may be wrong, and

Speaker:

this probably right. Just talk to my girlfriend about

Speaker:

this yesterday, uh, or Saturday.

Speaker:

But you'll see that girl that's, like, all popular because of her

Speaker:

mugshot, that she got arrested for speeding. Uh,

Speaker:

in whatever state that was. It's. It's

Speaker:

25 over or double

Speaker:

the speed limit is a mandatory arrest. So, like,

Speaker:

anything over 60 and a 30 is a

Speaker:

mandatory arrest or anything over 95 and a

Speaker:

70. But I don't know how we can. Look. I don't know what.

Speaker:

North Carolina is probably taking a minute.

Speaker:

>> RB: I think she got arrested twice within, like, 20 minutes.

Speaker:

Or she got pulled over twice within, like, 20 minutes.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Oh, really? I didn't look into it.

Speaker:

>> RB: Um, I. I clicked because of her image,

Speaker:

but whatever.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So what.

Speaker:

So golf man, you, um, you love the

Speaker:

pursuit of chasing birdies. It sounds like

Speaker:

you kind of got that bug in you. Um, you

Speaker:

play? You got some buddies you play? Or do you just take it but yourself?

Speaker:

I mean, what are you doing?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I mean, I. I don't have a problem golfing

Speaker:

myself. Um, it's nice enough here

Speaker:

in Charlotte. We got enough nice golf courses

Speaker:

that, uh, everybody else around here likes golf too,

Speaker:

so there's not. You're really not gonna get to play by yourself

Speaker:

much. Um, but I do like playing my buddies. Most of

Speaker:

my racing buddies golf. Jesse, uh, Connor,

Speaker:

both those guys I told you about. And then Brent Cruz is another one that races

Speaker:

that we golf with. We're playing Wednesday.

Speaker:

Um, but yeah, it's honestly something I got

Speaker:

into. Probably May of 23. I

Speaker:

haven't been playing much, um, play very long.

Speaker:

Um, but I like it. Just be outside and.

Speaker:

Um. Something my dad's really good at. He went to

Speaker:

Bethany in West Virginia on a full

Speaker:

ride. Uh, and, you know, 1932 or

Speaker:

whatever it was. So it was.

Speaker:

Ah, you know, he's. He's really good still. He's probably a.

Speaker:

He's probably a 2

Speaker:

or a 3 right now, and he's 64.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Um, I'm probably.

Speaker:

I don't know, probably 15. It's nothing. I'm not

Speaker:

great. I have sometimes glimmers of

Speaker:

hope. Um.

Speaker:

>> RB: Keeps you coming back from work, right?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, it's always at the end, too. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker:

Triple 12, 13, 14,

Speaker:

double 15. And then like. Oh,

Speaker:

par. Uh, par 17, 18. Nice.

Speaker:

Uh, but Pinehurst is close. We got a house at Pinehurst.

Speaker:

Um.

Speaker:

>> RB: Oh, you do?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Nothing. Nothing wild, but I didn't know that. Uh, yeah,

Speaker:

so I go over there when I can.

Speaker:

Um, honestly, thinking about going, which. I'm glad I

Speaker:

said this now. Gotta, um, look at,

Speaker:

uh. At tee times for Sunday, we raced

Speaker:

Martinsville Saturday. Uh, so

Speaker:

it's. We're close. We're not flying anywhere.

Speaker:

>> RB: Right.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Um, so thinking about going and playing Sunday, if the weather's good.

Speaker:

So, um, yeah, nice to just shoot over there.

Speaker:

Members over there. So just get on the golf course and go.

Speaker:

>> RB: I love that. Is it.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Is that, like, something to do with the FedEx cup and golf is.

Speaker:

It's kind of the same thing. I don't know.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So there's three NASCAR National Series. There's

Speaker:

the NASCAR Truck Series. That's what I raced in last

Speaker:

year. There's a NASCAR Xfinity series. That's what I race in

Speaker:

now. And the highest level

Speaker:

of NASCAR competition is the NASCAR Cup Series.

Speaker:

So for me,

Speaker:

kind of a decent way to look at it is,

Speaker:

uh, because golf is so hard and so many people play

Speaker:

golf. I'm probably like a good

Speaker:

guy in the Corn Ferry Tour right now.

Speaker:

Um, I got you.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Okay. But it's a great analogy because it's.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Hard to use like AAA baseball. Right. Because

Speaker:

there's however many triple A

Speaker:

baseball teams there are with how many ever players,

Speaker:

you know, 30, 40 people on a roster.

Speaker:

Um, it's, uh, it's hard to

Speaker:

say that because there's only, there's

Speaker:

only 30 full time NASCAR Xfinity drivers. There's only

Speaker:

35 full time NASCAR

Speaker:

Cup Series drivers. So the top 65

Speaker:

drivers in this, in the sport are at

Speaker:

the top two series.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Um, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So that's, that's where I'm at. I'm one step from the top right

Speaker:

now.

Speaker:

>> RB: Well, I was just.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You're gonna get to the top.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, that's. That's obviously the goal. And that's, that's kind

Speaker:

of my plan every weekend is.

Speaker:

It's kind of an audition. Um, you know, try and

Speaker:

do all the right things. Be good on camera, be good in the race car.

Speaker:

Maximize every thing you can. I think teams

Speaker:

look hard at restarts, so you don't want to

Speaker:

lose spots on restarts. That's just when we all line up next to each other

Speaker:

and green flag comes out. That's what everybody's the

Speaker:

closest. That's your time to

Speaker:

maximize. That's your time to score, basically,

Speaker:

uh, and get closer to the

Speaker:

front. Uh, pit roads a big thing. Just maximizing

Speaker:

your time on pit road. Try to make it

Speaker:

as quick as possible. We can't control the pit crews, but they do

Speaker:

measure driver time on pit road, which is

Speaker:

just we, we run our lights is what we call it. You'll hear about running

Speaker:

your lights. That's just being as close to the

Speaker:

speed limit as you can the whole

Speaker:

way down pit road.

Speaker:

Um, and we don't have a speedometer. We are, we do

Speaker:

some math and we try and keep it at like,

Speaker:

you know, 42,

Speaker:

40 rpms is like that's

Speaker:

49.9 miles an hour when the speed limit's 50. Because

Speaker:

if you touch the speed limit you

Speaker:

sped, uh, then you have to start at the

Speaker:

back.

Speaker:

>> RB: Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So obviously I didn't know any of this. I know nothing about this.

Speaker:

>> RB: So.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: And I'll just be honest. Terrible host, but it's just the

Speaker:

truth.

Speaker:

>> RB: My father in law and my brother in

Speaker:

law love nascar. Um, but

Speaker:

how quick you pull in

Speaker:

to change the tires, what's the time like,

Speaker:

what do you expect out of Your crew.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So the cup series is different. Uh, they

Speaker:

run a, uh, one lug, one lug nut configuration.

Speaker:

So they, they only have to pull off one larger lug

Speaker:

nut, um, to take off each tire.

Speaker:

Us, we have five. So we're five on, five off. Just kind of like a

Speaker:

streetcar. Um, so

Speaker:

a good pit stop, which I don't have our. Our

Speaker:

sheet yet.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah. Let's review these numbers from this past weekend. Like, is this

Speaker:

acceptable or not?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: We can, we can go to the. We go two weeks back. We can go to

Speaker:

Vegas and look at this.

Speaker:

>> RB: So you got 20 nuts to pull off if we're

Speaker:

taking all four.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yep. Vegas, uh, should

Speaker:

have. Okay, no, um, let's

Speaker:

go to Andy Street. Andy street

Speaker:

is the,

Speaker:

uh, he is the

Speaker:

technical director for the XFINITY program at

Speaker:

Richard Childress Racing, who is our, like,

Speaker:

technical alliance. Uh, that's how I'm getting this

Speaker:

from. All right, we've got.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: This is all real.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: This is a hit road heat map. So they're in the

Speaker:

middle. Like, we're

Speaker:

generally going the same speed all the way down, but for whatever

Speaker:

reason, NASCAR's computer system is reading our speeds

Speaker:

faster in the middle for some reason.

Speaker:

Um, okay, so driver

Speaker:

time. Uh, I didn't

Speaker:

do great. My best stop

Speaker:

was the

Speaker:

41st.

Speaker:

Best out of, uh, let's see,

Speaker:

probably 200 some pit stops. So I mean, not awful,

Speaker:

but not good enough. We want to be somewhere in the top

Speaker:

30 for every stop. But we

Speaker:

had interesting stuff going on. So anyways, best, uh, four.

Speaker:

Our best four tire stop that day

Speaker:

was, uh, 15.44 seconds.

Speaker:

That's taking off four tires, putting four

Speaker:

tires on and putting a full tank of gas in it.

Speaker:

Now that was fairly slow

Speaker:

because we were bad at Vegas and we were taking,

Speaker:

uh, basically it's not a wrench like what you

Speaker:

think of a wrench is, but putting adjustments in the car

Speaker:

with a. With a tool that. The tire

Speaker:

changer does that and that takes his time away from actually

Speaker:

changing the tire. Um, make an adjustment to

Speaker:

the chassis to fix the handling of our race car. So the best

Speaker:

stop all day was 13.66

Speaker:

seconds. That was the 20 car. Joe Gibbs Racing

Speaker:

lap 94 that, uh, was best four

Speaker:

tire stop. The, uh, best average was the two team.

Speaker:

They. Their average of three stops is 14.26

Speaker:

seconds.

Speaker:

>> RB: So your bet your best to the best is 1.8

Speaker:

second difference. Okay, that's a big

Speaker:

1.8 seconds is a big difference. Correct.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: For sure. Yeah. So that was that they didn't. They didn't have

Speaker:

A great week, but we put them in a bad spot because we were

Speaker:

making changes the whole time. So these cars that have fast

Speaker:

pit stops aren't making big swings at it. Um,

Speaker:

they're. They're. All they're doing is taking off four tires, putting four tires

Speaker:

on, and fueling the race car. Us, uh, we were

Speaker:

making changes to the. Trying to make changes to the handling of the

Speaker:

car.

Speaker:

>> RB: So how many guys do this? Four.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Oh, you've got a jackman, two

Speaker:

tire changers, and

Speaker:

a tire carrier. Which is it, four or five? I think it's

Speaker:

five. So two carriers, two

Speaker:

changers. So I think it's five.

Speaker:

>> RB: Hypothetical. Ryan and I.

Speaker:

Ryan and I get three buddies that come in.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> RB: What would you.

Speaker:

What would you say would be, like, a

Speaker:

good number for us changing all this and filling the tank up

Speaker:

if you've never.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Never done it before?

Speaker:

>> RB: If you be 10 minutes.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No, it's not as crazy as you think,

Speaker:

but, yeah, I don't think I.

Speaker:

>> RB: I think the tire up. What are you talking about?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: That's the problem is the tires are heavy.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, but you'd be picking them up.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: If you're faster than

Speaker:

35 seconds, that'd be pretty

Speaker:

good. So, like, if you were close to double.

Speaker:

Um, but that's. That's kind of

Speaker:

moving.

Speaker:

>> RB: That's pushing.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Um, that's kind of moving. I'm giving y'all some credit right

Speaker:

now.

Speaker:

>> RB: That might be like the 10th.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I don't think if.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I mean, if we give you a little bit of practice, I bet you. Yeah.

Speaker:

Sub 30. But I mean, first time, if

Speaker:

you.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, I'd probably lose one of the nuts.

Speaker:

Like, it would just be debacle.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, that's the thing. We glue the nuts on the

Speaker:

wheel that's getting ready to get put on. So when you

Speaker:

take them off, they're going. So they come so fast

Speaker:

off that they just fly off,

Speaker:

and you just leave off and they go away. And then the

Speaker:

neck, the wheels put on the. The lug

Speaker:

nuts already glued to the hole so that

Speaker:

the changer can now just.

Speaker:

And leave. Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I mean, it's got to be chaos.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: And I'm coming in at 50 miles an hour, coming to a

Speaker:

stop in a couple feet,

Speaker:

and I'm not trying to hit these

Speaker:

guys, and they're just jumping in a moving car, getting

Speaker:

ready to change the tires and put gas in it.

Speaker:

>> RB: Going from that as your profession to the golf course

Speaker:

must be such a nice change for you, because

Speaker:

golf, so to speak, is relaxing, and

Speaker:

you're just kind of moseying around. Right. And it

Speaker:

has to.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I'll take your word for it. It's not very relaxing when I play

Speaker:

it, but, I mean, yeah, it

Speaker:

is. It is a nice change of scenery, like

Speaker:

you said. I m Mean, it's fun

Speaker:

to. To kind of cool down, relax.

Speaker:

Um, but, man, it's. It's kind of the same

Speaker:

thing, right? Like, I just was telling you about that. That long run at Homestead

Speaker:

where we ran however many laps

Speaker:

back to back, and, I mean, you're focused. Your mind doesn't wander one

Speaker:

bit. That's. That's when golf is going good, is when your pace

Speaker:

is good. Right?

Speaker:

>> RB: Right.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You get to the ball, you hit the ball, you

Speaker:

drive to the next shot, you get ready, you hit it, you're in a little bit

Speaker:

of a rhythm. Then you catch a group of

Speaker:

four guys that escape the nursing home, and then

Speaker:

everything goes.

Speaker:

>> RB: C ball, hit ball, fine ball.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yep.

Speaker:

>> RB: Well, I'll tell you. I'll tell you this much. I was looking at the

Speaker:

Xfinity schedule bash, and,

Speaker:

uh, Saturday, May 31st,

Speaker:

we have to mosey on down to Nashville, Tennessee.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You're there. I mean, if you want. If you want to be there, we got

Speaker:

it easy.

Speaker:

>> RB: We're. We're really tied in with a bunch of the country music

Speaker:

boys. And, you know, if you can stay. If you're

Speaker:

able to stay Sunday, uh, and play some golf on Sunday,

Speaker:

we've got some six spots we could do it at. Uh,

Speaker:

after.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: We'll plan on it. We'll go ahead and lock it in. I'm there. We'll get you all out

Speaker:

to the race, put you on the pit box, changing

Speaker:

tires, or, uh, we're gonna keep you out of

Speaker:

the. Out, uh, of the. Out of the pit crew this week. Maybe the next

Speaker:

time.

Speaker:

>> RB: Okay.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: But, yeah, put you on the pit box. You'll see all the, you know, data and

Speaker:

stuff. The team has access. I mean, like I said, it's. It's a whole

Speaker:

different experience. And, um, Nashville's cool. I finished second in

Speaker:

Nashville last year.

Speaker:

>> RB: Let's go.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So, uh, gotta, uh, be nice to get a. Get a checker

Speaker:

flag there.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, man, we'll be rooting you. I know. My man IP Ian

Speaker:

Patrick's been sending us all the low down.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I don't get any more attention on instagram

Speaker:

from the IP has got it. D.

Speaker:

He just had the number 10 golf cart the other day. Dude, he was on it. He

Speaker:

was pumped about it.

Speaker:

>> RB: Oh, uh, dude is the funniest human being

Speaker:

ever.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: 51 years old and He's a

Speaker:

man. When we golfed, I think he shot

Speaker:

70 maybe.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: And, and I think, I guess I was just so star struck the

Speaker:

whole time, I didn't notice. But I mean, he didn't do anything.

Speaker:

Like there wasn't any like, holy moly. That was

Speaker:

spectacular. That's, that's what the good golfers do.

Speaker:

There's nothing spectacular in either way.

Speaker:

They don't make huge mistakes. Like when I'm chasing

Speaker:

my golf ball across the green and I've already

Speaker:

passed the hole three times back and forth. That's where my

Speaker:

score goes. 85. But

Speaker:

guy like those guys, I mean, like Neil hit

Speaker:

a, pulled a couple, but still

Speaker:

is on the green and three and, and

Speaker:

one putts and it's just like they're,

Speaker:

they're scrappy.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: It's just a whole different golf game for. He's a good golfer.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, no, it's good. It's good stuff, man. They're good

Speaker:

people. And I'm happy you got to meet him. And because of that, we got

Speaker:

to cut to hanging out with you here a little bit. I learned a hell of a

Speaker:

lot today here.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: On my own podcast, I learned so much, which is great. That's

Speaker:

what the way me and Pep should have it. So,

Speaker:

my man, I'm going to keep rooting for you and, and we

Speaker:

appreciate, uh, you coming on the show.

Speaker:

But before we end today's

Speaker:

episode, we're going to turn it over to the tapping

Speaker:

segment with Pepe doing his

Speaker:

thing, asking you some questions here that

Speaker:

might, uh, be weird, probably repetitive, but at the end of the day,

Speaker:

a little comical. So here he goes.

Speaker:

>> RB: All right. Most times you've gone to the

Speaker:

bathroom on yourself in a race.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Uh, just once at

Speaker:

Montgomery Motor Speedway in Montgomery,

Speaker:

Alabama. Long red flag.

Speaker:

I think there's a fire. So we're sitting there for

Speaker:

35, 40 minutes, just sitting there

Speaker:

with my thoughts. Uh, I've. Now,

Speaker:

I've tried other times because it's gotten bad, but.

Speaker:

Nope. Just. Just one wow.

Speaker:

>> RB: Favorite race of the year.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Uh, probably Daytona to start the

Speaker:

year just as a kickoff. That's my home race. Being from

Speaker:

Daytona gets, um, everything going.

Speaker:

>> RB: So I like that one dream for some dead or

Speaker:

alive on the golf course.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Um, my dad,

Speaker:

uh, let's see. Man, I don't

Speaker:

know. I, I almost. I. My dad probably

Speaker:

Tiger woods

Speaker:

and I can't even

Speaker:

think of another guy that.

Speaker:

>> RB: Roberta Fuente just, uh, for my dad.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I. Yeah, probably that least favorite golf

Speaker:

club that changes

Speaker:

so often right now. Probably

Speaker:

my three. Would I Think I don't know all

Speaker:

of them at the moment.

Speaker:

>> RB: And last question, which I have a good idea.

Speaker:

I know what you're going to say, but what are you chasing?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I'm chasing checkered flags, but I'll be chasing

Speaker:

birdies, uh, in the other time.

Speaker:

>> RB: Well, we're going to be watching you chase these checkered flags. We

Speaker:

wish you nothing but success the rest of the year,

Speaker:

and we appreciate you coming on chasing birdies.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Daniel, my man. Thanks again for coming on.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I appreciate it. Do it. Do another time soon.

Speaker:

>> RB: That's me in a nascar, boys. What's up,

Speaker:

man? My man, Daniel Dye. What a story.

Speaker:

That is. Like, the kid's 21 years old.

Speaker:

Full circle, how we met. Neil

Speaker:

Whitaker, his favorite player growing up.

Speaker:

Roberto Clemente is his dad's favorite player

Speaker:

growing up. Yeah, Neil's dad with Roberto.

Speaker:

Uh, it's just. Isn't that crazy how the world. World works,

Speaker:

dude?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: That is.

Speaker:

>> RB: And there might be some content coming of

Speaker:

us changing tires, because I want to see what we can get it

Speaker:

done. I told him 15 minutes.

Speaker:

He said that'd be too long.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I'd be on the 15 minutes, dude, but we can do it.

Speaker:

You. Oh, yeah. I mean, I could do it

Speaker:

under 15 minutes, and I think you can, too.

Speaker:

That was. I didn't really, like,

Speaker:

there was just so much interested in that.

Speaker:

That world because that's something that I've never been

Speaker:

exposed to. You know what I mean? And it's like you're

Speaker:

behind a wheel. I. I like to. I don't want to get into

Speaker:

this in the episode because of time, but, man, I do like to hit

Speaker:

the gas a little bit. I like to get it going a little bit.

Speaker:

But you get to that point where you're just like, okay, um, I'm coming back

Speaker:

down. You know, you get a little adrenaline rush, but I can't

Speaker:

imagine that feeling for hours, just

Speaker:

ripping it around in a circle.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, in a circle, my issue would be

Speaker:

I pee every 20 minutes. So, like, I would

Speaker:

need, like, new diapers changed on me

Speaker:

at the pit stops.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, no, it's very, uh. It's very

Speaker:

cool, man.

Speaker:

>> RB: I mean, and he's on a. He's on a

Speaker:

incline. He's doing really well,

Speaker:

and he just had a top 10 finish.

Speaker:

And it sounds like we might be going to a NASCAR race by

Speaker:

Xfinity series.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No. Um, first time for everything. And I'm all. I'm all game

Speaker:

for that, I'll tell you that. So that'll be a

Speaker:

blast.

Speaker:

>> RB: Would that be A blast. I mean, my luck,

Speaker:

I'll end up knocking a switch off or something. I'll ruin the whole thing.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Thing.

Speaker:

>> RB: But, uh, data tracking

Speaker:

or whatever. But that's so impressive to me how

Speaker:

quickly they are changing everything. Filling the tank up, going.

Speaker:

You know, there's no speedometer. You have to judge it.

Speaker:

Um, and again, like, for him to go to a golf course,

Speaker:

I'd be like, this is the slowest thing I ever played my whole entire life. What are we

Speaker:

doing here?

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah. Total opposite. But he loves it, so.

Speaker:

And that's great. You know, 14

Speaker:

seconds to do that is just insane.

Speaker:

So hats off to you, Daniel. I know I'll be watching you.

Speaker:

And I've been up to date with him. You have been, too, because of

Speaker:

Ian.

Speaker:

>> RB: So we're in the mix.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: We're in the mix. We're in the mix.

Speaker:

Um, so, bud, the weekend's here.

Speaker:

Just about. Just about. There's still some basketball. The

Speaker:

Sweet 16's kicking off. The elite eights kicking

Speaker:

in. Uh, who do you got right now

Speaker:

winning. Winning at all right

Speaker:

now as it stands?

Speaker:

>> RB: Well, I got two sides of that, Okay? I mean, one side,

Speaker:

I got Duke in our bracket, which is

Speaker:

whatever. But. And I'm a

Speaker:

little bit of a pickle here because I just took

Speaker:

Arizona. I threw down 50 bucks to win

Speaker:

3200 for them as my sleeper to win the whole

Speaker:

thing.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: No way.

Speaker:

>> RB: And Arizona plays Duke,

Speaker:

so I'm gonna know where I stand real quick.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Well, let me tell you this. I

Speaker:

got M. Florida going, and I got

Speaker:

Zona beating Duke in the Sweet 16 in my

Speaker:

bracket.

Speaker:

>> RB: Hot damn. I mean, dude, I literally, I. I put

Speaker:

that bet in. 3,200 bucks

Speaker:

for 50 investment.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: You. I never had the FanDuel ship before, but

Speaker:

I just got it just for funsies. Just.

Speaker:

But the parlay builders are my absolute, absolute favorite,

Speaker:

dude. I mean, you're never gonna hit him. But the odds they give you on, like,

Speaker:

a 10 teamer or 12 or 14, even a

Speaker:

16 bagger is ridiculous. I'm like, what

Speaker:

the hell? And you got. It's just for fun.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: I mean, you're losing. It's donation, you know?

Speaker:

>> RB: Right.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: But. But,

Speaker:

uh, it's good, though. My man. Three

Speaker:

weeks away. The Masters is here.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yeah. And I saw you up at our favorite spot this past

Speaker:

weekend, grinding it out in the simulator. Uh, so that's

Speaker:

good for you.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Yeah, I was, uh. I was there at NEMI this past

Speaker:

weekend. Nemacol and Resort. And I was

Speaker:

doing a damn thing. Met the new pro in the learning Academy hitting

Speaker:

some balls, working through the things. Great

Speaker:

spot to be. The resort was kind of bumping for

Speaker:

March, so it's probably a four

Speaker:

foreshadow of what's going to happen in the summer because they're really going to be

Speaker:

busy. Gusto's just kicking ass up there. So make sure you people

Speaker:

go over to now nemecollen.com. check them out. Take

Speaker:

your family, friends, whatever you have in your

Speaker:

life. They would love it. Something for everyone. And we're

Speaker:

happy to be partners with Nemacolin.

Speaker:

So, um, that's where the two man event is.

Speaker:

>> RB: Yes.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: Uh, amen to that.

Speaker:

>> RB: Chasing birdies too, man. July.

Speaker:

So July 27th to 29th, we got,

Speaker:

um, more than last year, so that's a lot of fun. But

Speaker:

with that, man, like, I'm not in a NASCAR car where

Speaker:

I can just go to the bathroom right now, but I

Speaker:

really do have to go to the bathroom. Okay. And,

Speaker:

um. Okay, so without further ado,

Speaker:

you all have a kick ass week.

Speaker:

Make sure you go to chase it under square birdies. Check

Speaker:

the new cups out that I've been drinking out of. They are really nice.

Speaker:

Which I gotta tell you, Bash, great job on these because they are

Speaker:

cool. Um, they keep my coffee so

Speaker:

hot and hot and my tequila

Speaker:

cold. So it's a nice little balance.

Speaker:

>> Jonathan: So, yeah, you'll be able to get those here

Speaker:

soon in our pro shop. So, as

Speaker:

always, thank you all for tuning in to this week's episode of

Speaker:

Jason Birdies. Thank you to Allie, Emily and Ivo

Speaker:

over at Simpler Media for putting this

Speaker:

thing together. And as always, Jacqueline

Speaker:

Di Paterio, Rachel London, for all your social

Speaker:

media help. You guys enjoy your

Speaker:

weekend, have a good time on the golf course,

Speaker:

watch some B ball and we will catch y'all

Speaker:

in two.
