HostPodcasting is a great medium as well as a lot of fun.
HostSo sit back and get ready to learn about the podcasting world.
HostNow, here is your host and podcaster himself, Gray Hair Dave.
Gray Hair DaveOh, welcome back, folks.
Gray Hair DaveWelcome back.
Gray Hair DaveGlad you're here.
Gray Hair DaveGray Hair Dave here.
Gray Hair DaveJust as she said.
Gray Hair DaveI hope you're having a great day.
Gray Hair DaveI'm having a really good day.
Gray Hair DaveWell, not really.
Gray Hair DaveDoesn't matter.
Gray Hair DaveI'm having a good day.
Gray Hair DaveIf you get up with a positive attitude in the morning, hopefully it keeps you positive through the rest of the day.
Gray Hair DaveAnd I try to do that, and it's working pretty well for the most part.
Gray Hair DaveSo let's get started with Boomer Podcasters today.
Gray Hair DaveI know that we talked last week a lot about hosts and things like that, and this week I told you we would be talking about video.
Gray Hair DaveIf you're gonna, if you're gonna do video for your podcast, there's a couple of ways to do it.
Gray Hair DaveIf it's just you alone, then depending upon the platform you're working, you're either going to, you know, whether that's a Mac or, or a Windows device is going to determine how you're able to do things.
Gray Hair DaveSo if you're on a Mac, you can use, you can use a few things.
Gray Hair DaveYou can use the FaceTime camera, which is one option.
Gray Hair DaveYou can use another option, which is one of the programs I'm going to talk about, which is descript.
Gray Hair DaveDescript gives you the opportunity to not only record audio, it gives you the opportunity to record video.
Gray Hair DaveAnd then you can, you could.
Gray Hair DaveDescript is kind of an all in one program that I'd like to show you on video.
Gray Hair DaveBut if you go to descript.com they've got a great, great tutorial on the front page of it on what, you know, what you can do with it.
Gray Hair DaveThey've also got.
Gray Hair DaveSo they can do video editing, captions, podcasting, clips, all that kind of fun stuff, but you can record into it.
Gray Hair DaveAnd I've tried it.
Gray Hair DaveIt's not bad.
Gray Hair DaveIt really isn't bad.
Gray Hair DaveI mean, it uses a camera off your computer, if you're using a laptop or you can designate whatever you want.
Gray Hair DaveNow there's A couple of ways to go with that when it comes to recording video.
Gray Hair DaveLet's talk about that at the end.
Gray Hair DaveOkay, we'll go to the end and talk about, about cameras and things such as that.
Gray Hair DaveOkay?
Gray Hair DaveNow if it's you and somebody else, all these programs I'm going to talk to you about are good for either single or multiple guests.
Gray Hair DaveOkay?
Gray Hair DaveNow remember I said if you're on a Mac, you can go to the script.
Gray Hair DaveYou can also go to ECAMM Live and I'll put a link to that also in the show notes.
Gray Hair DaveEcamm is a Mac only program that you can record into and you can also do a lot of.
Gray Hair DaveYou.
Gray Hair DaveYou can't really do a lot of editing in it, but you can do a little bit.
Gray Hair DaveYou can pull the audio out if you want, but there will be a link in the show notes for this for ECAMM Live.
Gray Hair DaveNow when I do it, I use ECAMM Live when I do recordings.
Gray Hair DaveBut there's, there's another one out there that I want to talk to you about, which is called OBS Studios.
Gray Hair DaveOBS Studios is an.
Gray Hair DaveIt's.
Gray Hair DaveIt's called open source, it's free, it works on Windows or Macs or Linux to where you can record your video and your audio at the same time.
Gray Hair DaveIt's.
Gray Hair DaveIt's okay for bringing in others, but it's easier to not.
Gray Hair DaveIt's easier to use something else for that program.
Gray Hair DaveAnd it has, I've used it and there's a little bit of a learning curve there.
Gray Hair DaveSo if you're just a beginner doing this and you want to start out with something simple and easy for that, I would go with descript.
Gray Hair DaveOkay.
Gray Hair DaveIf you're just yourself.
Gray Hair DaveNow these other programs I'm going to start talking about for video also do more than one.
Gray Hair DaveBut you can do singular too, or singular or just, you know, a mono or a solo show with that.
Gray Hair DaveAnd they do a wonderful job for that.
Gray Hair DaveThey all have their pluses.
Gray Hair DaveThey all have a couple of minuses.
Gray Hair DaveAnd the minuses aren't that big.
Gray Hair DaveThey really are not.
Gray Hair DaveAnd it's not that expensive if this is something you're going to do.
Gray Hair DaveAnd if you think about it, most of these, you take them out of here.
Gray Hair DaveA lot of them will do the editing for you through AI now, but the price looks like the first one I'm going to talk to you about is one called squadcast.
Gray Hair DaveSquadcast has annual as well as monthly billing.
Gray Hair DaveIf you're doing monthly, it's about $12 for and it gives you a free trial for 14 days.
Gray Hair DaveYou can have chat and email.
Gray Hair DaveAnd it looks like, I don't know that it goes live, but it might, I think it does.
Gray Hair DaveOkay.
Gray Hair DaveAnd it's, it's very, very good.
Gray Hair DaveIt'll record you and it'll record others at the same time.
Gray Hair DaveIt's, it gives you, let's see here.
Gray Hair DaveYou can schedule escalations, you can, you can do live call routing and.
Gray Hair DaveWhich basically means live call routing means you can do more than one person at a time.
Gray Hair DaveOkay.
Gray Hair DaveThat squadcast, the show note, it'll be in the show notes with the link to it.
Gray Hair DaveNext one is that I want to talk to you about is Riverside FM.
Gray Hair DaveI did 100 shows with my brother on a poem on a podcast called.
Gray Hair DaveIt started out as Living in God's Rhyme and then we rebranded it to Poetry of Christian Faith.
Gray Hair DaveThat was a show that after about 10 or so we started doing video.
Gray Hair DaveNow what this program does and all of these basically do is you sign up and then you, you put, you make a room basically and it's going to be like your studio.
Gray Hair DaveSo for me it was, it was Poetry of Christian Faith Studio.
Gray Hair DaveI was the host and Tim was always the guest.
Gray Hair DaveSo from there we went on and recorded.
Gray Hair DaveAnd you can get side by side or the AI in it.
Gray Hair DaveWell, always put the person talking full screen while they put the other person either not there or you know, in a corner.
Gray Hair DaveIt'll highlight them however you want to do it.
Gray Hair DaveThere's all kinds of things that these programs can do.
Gray Hair DaveI used Riverside.
Gray Hair DaveI heard a lot of complaints about Riverside, about them having issues.
Gray Hair DaveAnd every time I had an issue, I emailed them or I went through their support.
Gray Hair DaveBoom, they had it fixed within minutes for me.
Gray Hair DaveUnless of course it was on like a Sunday night.
Gray Hair DaveAnd of course it always was because Tim and I recorded on Sunday afternoons.
Gray Hair DaveSo.
Gray Hair DaveBut it's easy to, it's easy to work with.
Gray Hair DaveI, I recommend Riverside.
Gray Hair DaveI really, really do.
Gray Hair DaveAt this point in time, I do not have an affiliate link with them.
Gray Hair DaveI may in the future, but for now try them out.
Gray Hair DaveAnd their pricing really, really isn't bad.
Gray Hair DaveMonthly it's around $19.
Gray Hair DaveAnd if you think about it, it's not bad.
Gray Hair DaveIt gives you 5 hours of multi track video and audio up to 4K quality, no watermarks.
Gray Hair DaveWhen you're paying for it, it gives you two hours free.
Gray Hair DaveWait a second, one second.
Gray Hair DaveYou can, you can try it for free for a couple hours.
Gray Hair DaveLive studio for live streaming is $15 a month.
Gray Hair DaveIf that's something you're interested in.
Gray Hair DaveI'm thinking about that.
Gray Hair DaveAnd if I do it, I may come back to Riverside.
Gray Hair DaveI don't know.
Gray Hair DaveI may.
Gray Hair DaveAfter Riverside, I want to talk to you about a company called Restream.
Gray Hair DaveIf Restream is hit.
Gray Hair DaveRestream is great for live.
Gray Hair DaveLive videos or live broadcasts.
Gray Hair DaveWhen I am going to go live, I'm going to use ecamm Live and I'm going to send it over here to Restream so that I can send it out to YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, wherever I want simultaneously.
Gray Hair DaveRestream is a bigger program than some of us might need in the very, very beginning.
Gray Hair DaveAnd you know, that's nothing wrong with that, right?
Gray Hair DaveNothing wrong at all.
Gray Hair DaveBut that's.
Gray Hair DaveThat's Restream.
Gray Hair DaveAfter that, we're going to go to one called Open Real.
Gray Hair DaveNow, Open Real is.
Gray Hair DaveHas.
Gray Hair DaveThey have remote capture, which means that you can.
Gray Hair DaveYou can record somebody else.
Gray Hair DaveYou can record, create, host, manage and go live.
Gray Hair DaveAlmost all of these are going to let you go live.
Gray Hair DaveThey really are.
Gray Hair DaveThey want you to go live.
Gray Hair DaveYou know, what's wrong with that?
Gray Hair DaveNothing.
Gray Hair DaveSo the pricing on those isn't bad.
Gray Hair DaveThey want you to contact them, though, for pricing.
Gray Hair DaveAnd I don't know why that is.
Gray Hair DaveSome people are that way, but they do give you a free trial.
Gray Hair DaveI have never used them.
Gray Hair DaveNext one up is streamyard.
Gray Hair DaveNow, Streamyard is very, very good.
Gray Hair DaveI've used it too.
Gray Hair DaveIt has a lot of.
Gray Hair DaveA lot of AI ability in it now to where it helps you get the things you want to do done.
Gray Hair DaveIt'll record them both.
Gray Hair DaveYou know, if you've got one or two or three or four, it records them together plus individually, the same as Riverside does.
Gray Hair DaveSo you can control all those things.
Gray Hair DaveAnd the one nice thing about both these, all these programs is if you've got a guest, you can tell what mic they're using.
Gray Hair DaveAre they using headsets, what their volumes are, how their Internet setting is.
Gray Hair DaveYou know, is it strong, is it weak?
Gray Hair DaveYou can tell all those things.
Gray Hair DaveAnd that is a very big plus because let's say you're going to be on my show and we go through streamyard and I'm looking at my stats and you know, and you come in, I send you a link and that's how all this works.
Gray Hair DaveI sign in, I get into the end of the show and if you got a guest, you clear, you click Create link in it, then you can send it to ever you want to.
Gray Hair DaveThat is going to open it up on their computer.
Gray Hair DaveAnd whichever program they prefer, which most of these.
Gray Hair DaveI want to tell you, almost all of these work better with Chrome.
Gray Hair DaveGoogle Chrome, just so you know, there's something about the other ones and it's, and it's not that they're not good, it's just most of these were designed for use on Google Chrome and they just, it just seems to work better.
Gray Hair DaveWill they work on other platforms?
Gray Hair DaveYeah, they probably will.
Gray Hair DaveDo you want.
Gray Hair DaveWhy take the chance?
Gray Hair DaveGoogle Chrome is free if you don't have it and it works on Macs as well as any Windows program or any Windows machine.
Gray Hair DaveOkay, so there's that.
Gray Hair DaveI forgot where I was at now.
Gray Hair DaveBut when I got.
Gray Hair DaveBut you know, it's it.
Gray Hair DaveThey've all got free.
Gray Hair DaveTry it.
Gray Hair DaveYou know, free, free demos for a little bit.
Gray Hair DaveBut go into them and research them and see what you think about them because they're really pretty amazing what they can do.
Gray Hair DaveNow this is one that I'm going to say, but I want to say here we are, it's.
Gray Hair DaveIt's 2024 going on 2025 and we all know about Zoom.
Gray Hair DaveWhen the COVID crisis hit the world, Zoom really, really stepped up and up their game and pretty much wiped out Skype.
Gray Hair DaveNow Skype is still there and I think it's still there.
Gray Hair DaveI just, I don't look into it anymore.
Gray Hair DaveSo I don't know.
Gray Hair DaveBut Zoom has, has a great plan.
Gray Hair DaveI don't.
Gray Hair DaveIt just doesn't give you the robustness of the other programs I was telling you about.
Gray Hair DaveRiverside, squadcast, Squad Cast.
Gray Hair DaveRiverside.
Gray Hair DaveOh my God.
Gray Hair DaveWhat was the other one I was talking?
Gray Hair DaveSquadcast, squadcast and streamyard.
Gray Hair DaveYeah, streamyard.
Gray Hair DaveYeah.
Gray Hair DaveSo they're not as robust.
Gray Hair DaveAnd let's be honest, that person.
Gray Hair DaveThat doesn't.
Gray Hair DaveThat means now that they can record with their phone, please tell them to not use their phone's microphone.
Gray Hair DaveHave them if you have to go out and get one of those lavalier microphones and hook it up to their, to their phone because it's going to give you a better quality or at least use the wired headsets that they, that the phone came with the headphones.
Gray Hair DaveIt's better than just talking to the speakerphone.
Gray Hair DaveOh my God.
Gray Hair DaveSome things.
Gray Hair DaveI'm an editor and some things are just God awful for us to edit when it comes to those kinds of things.
Gray Hair DaveBut that's one of the downfalls of Zoom is people tend to not use a microphone when they need to.
Gray Hair DaveAnd I'm going to say this now and I'm going to say it from now on, you really need to be using some sort of headsets with this, whether that and all of this, whether that's video or just audio or both, you really, really do.
Gray Hair DaveMost people you'll notice in the videos are wearing headphones.
Gray Hair DaveI'm wearing the in ears.
Gray Hair DaveI've talked about them before.
Gray Hair DaveThey're the in ears like they use on concert stages.
Gray Hair DaveThey're comfortable for me, they work better for me.
Gray Hair DaveAnd I hate having that big thing over my.
Gray Hair DaveOver my ears because I wear glasses and it doesn't.
Gray Hair DaveIt gives it an escape for the noise to get in.
Gray Hair DaveOkay, so that.
Gray Hair DaveNo, enough being said about that.
Gray Hair DaveThat's what it is.
Gray Hair DaveOkay?
Gray Hair DaveThe zoom is okay.
Gray Hair DaveIt's not great.
Gray Hair DaveIt really isn't great, but it works.
Gray Hair DaveIt does.
Gray Hair DaveIt works.
Gray Hair DaveSo if they've got no other option, use zoom.
Gray Hair DaveIt's free for a while.
Gray Hair DaveI mean, you can record up to 40 minutes each time, up to 100 participants.
Gray Hair DaveAll these kinds of things.
Gray Hair DaveIt gives you whiteboard, basic, it gives you document basics, all kinds of these types of things that you can get with it.
Gray Hair DaveAnd if you want more, the first here is 1332.
Gray Hair DaveThat's 1599.
Gray Hair DaveBuild monthly.
Gray Hair DaveI tried this for a while and I stopped because I stopped using the program.
Gray Hair DaveThere's always add ons.
Gray Hair DaveThere's always something you can add on to all these programs, but do your research.
Gray Hair DaveOkay, these are the video programs that I suggest.
Gray Hair DaveAre these all of them?
Gray Hair DaveI don't believe so.
Gray Hair DaveNo, I do not.
Gray Hair DaveI believe Zencastr has a way.
Gray Hair DaveZencastr is just as good.
Gray Hair DaveZencastr is equivalent to Squadcast and Streamyard in my mind.
Gray Hair DaveThey really, really are.
Gray Hair DaveThey're very.
Gray Hair DaveIt's very, very good.
Gray Hair DaveI just didn't do anything with it.
Gray Hair DaveFreaker has a way.
Gray Hair DaveIris, R, N G, Ringer, Clean feed.
Gray Hair DaveThey're there.
Gray Hair DaveDo you want to use them?
Gray Hair DaveDo your research.
Gray Hair DaveIt's.
Gray Hair DaveIt's really, really easy to do it with the bigger programs.
Gray Hair DaveThey've been around a while.
Gray Hair DaveIf it were me, I would go to Riverside first, check them out.
Gray Hair DaveThen I would go to Squadcast second.
Gray Hair DaveThose are just my opinions.
Gray Hair DaveOkay?
Gray Hair DaveDo your own research.
Gray Hair DaveI was very happy with, like I said, with Riverside, the quality was good.
Gray Hair DaveIt keeps getting better.
Gray Hair DaveThey keep adding new things.
Gray Hair DaveYou can get transcripts now in most of these programs, but do your own research.
Gray Hair DaveSee which one feels better for you as you're doing it.
Gray Hair DaveAnd remember, you are in control.
Gray Hair DaveIf it's your podcast, if you're going to bring on two or three or Four people, remember?
Gray Hair DaveAnd you really need a.
Gray Hair DaveA program like Riverside, SquadCast, Streamyard that can handle those, that many people in a room and give you the ability to control them, but also know what kind of equipment they're using.
Gray Hair DaveEverybody needs to be using some sort of a microphone.
Gray Hair DaveIf they're on their telephone or on a tablet, they need to be using the wired headsets that come with it.
Gray Hair DaveOtherwise, and these aren't great.
Gray Hair DaveYou can get.
Gray Hair DaveNow, if you've got an Apple tablet, you can use a regular USB C microphone.
Gray Hair DaveSame with your phone.
Gray Hair DaveI mean, why not do that?
Gray Hair DaveYou want good quality before you start.
Gray Hair DaveIt's easier to edit if you have.
Gray Hair DaveIf you've done it properly to begin with.
Gray Hair DaveI can't stress that enough.
Gray Hair DaveI really, really can't.
Gray Hair DaveNow, most of these programs are going to give you the option to not wear headsets.
Gray Hair DaveAnd it'll say echo cancellation if you don't want to wear headsets.
Gray Hair DaveBecause my brother didn't want to wear a headset, I didn't really care.
Gray Hair DaveBut so we went with, with no headsets and with echo cancellation, because what it does is it you can't hear it.
Gray Hair DaveThe microphone doesn't pick up what's coming back out of your speaker from when someone else talks and puts it back in, which gives you the echo.
Gray Hair DaveAnd you don't want that.
Gray Hair DaveRight?
Gray Hair DaveBecause that, that is really.
Gray Hair DaveI mean, they have programs out there that I can use right now because I own them and I paid a lot of money for these things.
Gray Hair DaveBut you don't need to do that.
Gray Hair DaveIf you just record right from the beginning, it just makes it easier.
Gray Hair DaveSo those are the programs that I suggest.
Gray Hair DaveHow do you use them?
Gray Hair DaveWatch the tutorials.
Gray Hair DaveI can tell you how to use them, but it's easier to show you how to use them.
Gray Hair DaveI could do a video on each one, but.
Gray Hair DaveBut then we'd be deep in the woods on this.
Gray Hair DaveI'll get to that if you want me to, but I don't see a need right now to get to that.
Gray Hair DaveThis is not what this is for.
Gray Hair DaveRight now we're here to tell you about the basics and get you going.
Gray Hair DaveOkay, so those are what I suggest.
Gray Hair DaveAnd I wanted to talk to you about your recording process.
Gray Hair DaveSo let's go into cameras.
Gray Hair DaveNow, the camera on your computer is usually pretty good, but let's be really honest, the camera on your phone is better than that.
Gray Hair DaveIf you're going to start out, don't go spending hundreds of dollars on Sony cameras, video cameras, all this other kind of stuff.
Gray Hair DaveSpend it on lighting.
Gray Hair DaveOkay, Your room needs to be well lit in front of you.
Gray Hair DaveThere's lots of videos.
Gray Hair DaveYou'll see them on all these sites about how to light yourself.
Gray Hair DaveI'm using an Elgato light right now, but I used to use a 15, one of those circular lights, and it gave me all kinds of options for warm and smooth or bright and harsh and all those kinds of stuff.
Gray Hair DaveBut you want it in front of you so that the light hits your face, but you don't want it in front of you so that you get a glare off of your glasses or you can see the light ring or the light in your glasses.
Gray Hair DaveIf you wear glasses like I do, that's always the challenge.
Gray Hair DaveSo usually two, one on each side coming at you.
Gray Hair DaveNow you can go ahead and spend all kinds of, of money on lighting and, you know, and, and diffusers and, and all that fun stuff and setting up your, your, you know, your, your studio.
Gray Hair DaveOr you can just start easily, record where you're recording.
Gray Hair DaveUse the background you're in.
Gray Hair DaveI'll be honest with you.
Gray Hair DaveMy main office is in a bedroom.
Gray Hair DaveThere's a bed behind me.
Gray Hair DaveThere's carpet on the floor, so there's bedding.
Gray Hair DaveThere's stuff on the walls so that I don't get all that echo off of a blank room.
Gray Hair DaveNow in the beginning, that's where all my recordings came from.
Gray Hair DaveI've got a green screen now so I can use whatever backdrop I want to use.
Gray Hair DaveBut in the beginning, I didn't.
Gray Hair DaveAnd why would I?
Gray Hair DaveI'm not spending a boatload of money.
Gray Hair DaveI spent like $130 on this green screen that I have.
Gray Hair DaveI've got a big one that I use when I go out to places that I can set it up to where, because it goes 7 foot wide by, or 8 foot wide by.
Gray Hair DaveIt's.
Gray Hair DaveI think it's 10 foot tall.
Gray Hair DaveAnd it comes with frames, big, huge frames.
Gray Hair DaveIf that's something I'm going to go do out in public, I got it.
Gray Hair DaveIt's available to me.
Gray Hair DaveI've got.
Gray Hair DaveGot another one that attaches to the back of my chair.
Gray Hair DaveAnd I think it cost me 50 bucks.
Gray Hair DaveGreen screens are easy.
Gray Hair DaveJust if you want to do that, I'll show you how to do that.
Gray Hair DaveBut it doesn't need to be done yet.
Gray Hair DaveSo if you want to do video, do video.
Gray Hair DaveI have nothing against it.
Gray Hair DavePut it on YouTube, put on YouTube, put it on LinkedIn, put it on Facebook, put it on Twitter, Instagram.
Gray Hair DaveYou could do Instagram ram reels.
Gray Hair DaveMost of these programs I've given you will do shorts for you.
Gray Hair DaveThey'll cut them into shorts.
Gray Hair DaveDon't use those for that.
Gray Hair DaveYou can.
Gray Hair DaveDon't get me wrong, you can, but you make the decisions on the editing yourself.
Gray Hair DaveNow, a lot of them you can edit in the program and then, you know, export it out.
Gray Hair DaveWhat I do is I export it, the whole thing or both to a program called.
Gray Hair DaveOh, it's called DaVinci Resolve.
Gray Hair DaveDaVinci Resolve is a.
Gray Hair DaveIs the same program that most.
Gray Hair DaveI'm saying most of the big film corporations and companies use.
Gray Hair DaveThey use the paid version.
Gray Hair DaveYou get more out of this program for free than you'll ever, ever need.
Gray Hair DaveAnd it gives you the option for plugins.
Gray Hair DaveBut my goodness.
Gray Hair DaveAnd it'll.
Gray Hair DaveIt'll also help you with your audio.
Gray Hair DaveIt's free.
Gray Hair DaveIt's called.
Gray Hair DaveIt is.
Gray Hair DaveIt's called DaVinci Resolve.
Gray Hair DaveI suggest you pick it up.
Gray Hair DaveGo now.
Gray Hair DavePut a link.
Gray Hair DaveI will put a link in the show notes.
Gray Hair DaveLet me type that in there real quick.
Gray Hair DaveNow let's go and talk about video editors.
Gray Hair DaveThis is a video editing program, DaVinci Resolve.
Gray Hair DaveIt's simple, it's easy, but there's a little bit of a learning curve.
Gray Hair DaveIf you're on a Mac, you can use Imovie.
Gray Hair DaveImovie Simple.
Gray Hair DaveIt's easy if you download it into imac.
Gray Hair DaveIf you're on a.
Gray Hair DaveYou're on a Windows machine.
Gray Hair DaveSorry about that.
Gray Hair DaveI actually stopped the recording and go look it up because I had forgotten what kind of options are available for Windows machines.
Gray Hair DaveI apologize for that.
Gray Hair DaveBut I did.
Gray Hair DaveSo DaVinci Resolve will work on that.
Gray Hair DaveThere's one called Lightworks.
Gray Hair DaveIt's a freemium kind of free now.
Gray Hair DaveI went for the free ones to start out with and VSDC is out there.
Gray Hair DaveIt's a very good one.
Gray Hair DavePower Director isn't bad.
Gray Hair DaveIt really isn't.
Gray Hair DaveBut if you're going to go to Power Director now Power Director is used by a lot of video Editors on.
Gray Hair DaveOn YouTube and on Facebook and Vimeo and as well as LinkedIn.
Gray Hair DaveBut the big programs, they are a lot like it.
Gray Hair DaveThey really are.
Gray Hair DaveSo look into Power Director.
Gray Hair DaveSee which one is easier for you.
Gray Hair DaveI personally, it's.
Gray Hair DaveFor me, I don't know.
Gray Hair DaveThere used to be a program called Windows Movie Maker and I don't know if it's still out there or not.
Gray Hair DaveOkay.
Gray Hair DaveWindows Movie Maker stopped being.
Gray Hair DaveI don't know if you can still get it.
Gray Hair DaveIf you got it on yours.
Gray Hair DaveWell, good luck, keep using it.
Gray Hair DaveThey don't have anything right now.
Gray Hair DaveThe best they can come up with is Moviezilla.
Gray Hair DaveYou're gonna have to pay for most of these.
Gray Hair DaveI don't.
Gray Hair DaveI don't know.
Gray Hair DaveI really don't.
Gray Hair DaveAgain, DaVinci Resolve or power Director?
Gray Hair DaveAgain, There's a learning curve on these, so take your time, get ready.
Gray Hair DaveI want a Mac.
Gray Hair DaveSo I started out on Imovie and it went rather.
Gray Hair DaveWhat?
Gray Hair DaveRather quickly.
Gray Hair DaveNow, Mac does have their program which is upgraded from Imovie.
Gray Hair DaveIt's called Final Cut Pro, which a lot of the big studios use to.
Gray Hair DaveI looked at that and I had already downloaded DaVinci Resolve.
Gray Hair DaveFinal cut Pro is paid for just like Logic Pro is paid for on a Mac.
Gray Hair DaveI wasn't going to spend another 200 bucks on a video editing program.
Gray Hair DaveI didn't know how much I was going to use.
Gray Hair DaveI knew how much I was going to use the audio editing.
Gray Hair DaveWasn't sure about video editing, so I went with the free stuff.
Gray Hair DaveThat's just me.
Gray Hair DaveOkay, don't.
Gray Hair DaveI'm trying to keep this as inexpensive as I can.
Gray Hair DaveIf you're all in and got thousands of dollars to spend on this, go for it.
Gray Hair DaveGive me a yell and I'll walk you through the expensive stuff.
Gray Hair DaveMaybe down the line we can do an expensive upgrade program.
Gray Hair DaveBut there's programs out there you can get that are just simple as pie.
Gray Hair DaveBut most have a little bit of a learning curve and you have to expect that this is something new to you.
Gray Hair DaveUnless you've been doing this before.
Gray Hair DaveAnd if.
Gray Hair DaveOr if you know somebody who is an editor like myself and is willing to do it at a reasonable fair price and you can afford that, by all means, send it over to the editor, both video or audio.
Gray Hair DaveLet us take care of it for you.
Gray Hair DaveYou will be happier and you'll be a lot less stressed.
Gray Hair DaveYou've got to figure with audio in the beginning especially.
Gray Hair DaveSo if you have a.
Gray Hair DaveLet's just break it into one hour bits here.
Gray Hair DaveIf you have a one hour podcast that you've recorded and you're going to edit it, it's just audio.
Gray Hair DaveFigure the first couple months you're going to be spending an hour and a half to two hours editing it because you're going to want to get out the ums.
Gray Hair DaveNow you can go to programs like Descript or who will help you edit it and they'll take out the filler words for you.
Gray Hair DaveBut you want to be a smooth at it and go whichever way you want to go.
Gray Hair DaveNow it's up to you.
Gray Hair DaveI'm not your boss here.
Gray Hair DaveYou are the boss.
Gray Hair DaveI like to edit my own.
Gray Hair DaveOkay?
Gray Hair DaveSo I've got it down to however long it takes.
Gray Hair DaveI usually add 10 or 15 minutes to that.
Gray Hair DaveSo if I had a half an hour, 35 minute show here, it's going to take me 45 minutes and a little bit to, to get this all said and done.
Gray Hair DaveAnd then the rest of it happens.
Gray Hair DaveThen you go back to, you have to export it, you have to upload it into your host, the host that you've decided to go with.
Gray Hair DaveAnd you gotta come up with a show name.
Gray Hair DaveYou got to come up with show notes, you've got to come up with links.
Gray Hair DaveIf you've promised them computer links, you know, for go to this program, you know, go here, go there, like I've done today.
Gray Hair DaveAll these links are going to be there because I was talking about them.
Gray Hair DaveSo follow through is important.
Gray Hair DaveSo you gotta figure an hour show, two hours to edit.
Gray Hair DaveYou got, let's just say another half an hour to upload it or to export it out.
Gray Hair DaveUpload it into your host, come up with a name and with show notes or whatever that is and all the links and post or publish.
Gray Hair DaveIt's called publishing, it's not called posting.
Gray Hair DaveSo what are you in there?
Gray Hair DaveYou're in two, three, four hours, let's say four hours for a one hour show.
Gray Hair DaveAnd that's if you didn't make a lot of mistakes.
Gray Hair DaveSo consider that or consider farming out some of that work to an editor.
Gray Hair DaveAs an editor, I will upload to your host if you want me to, but you have to grant me access to your, to your host.
Gray Hair DaveAnd I don't like to do that.
Gray Hair DaveI like you to re hear it.
Gray Hair DaveSo let's just say you're sending it to me.
Gray Hair DaveYou got an hour out there and you're going to get it down to 45 minutes because of the ums, the odds, all the other stuff.
Gray Hair DaveYou send it to me, I send it back to you.
Gray Hair DaveYou've got to spend another 45 minutes, listen, then if you find other things, you call me back and say, hey, this is what's going on.
Gray Hair DaveAll right, Sorry, before we were so rudely interrupted by the ever present lawn guys.
Gray Hair DaveAll the links are going to be in, in the show notes.
Gray Hair DaveIf I missed something, I'll fix it.
Gray Hair DaveBut I want you to consider a video.
Gray Hair DaveThere's going to be podcasters out there.
Gray Hair DaveOh, video is not a podcast.
Gray Hair DaveWho cares if you're doing the audio and the video?
Gray Hair DaveWho cares if you're just Doing video.
Gray Hair DaveIt's your decision, not theirs.
Gray Hair DaveDon't let them bother you, okay?
Gray Hair DaveOh, you.
Gray Hair DaveYou can't be a podcast if you're just doing a video.
Gray Hair DaveHey, can you extract the audio and put it out there?
Gray Hair DaveAin't hard.
Gray Hair DaveHere I go.
Gray Hair DaveUsing bad words ain't.
Gray Hair DaveSo that's the show for today, folks.
Gray Hair DaveI hope you're.
Gray Hair DaveYou're okay with that.
Gray Hair DaveI know we talked about editing programs before, but I want to talk about them again next week, and we're going to go into a little bit more depth on each one.
Gray Hair DaveWe're going to probably Talk Pro Tools vs Audacity vs Logic Pro vs GarageBand.
Gray Hair DaveThere's other ones out there.
Gray Hair DaveThey're all basically the same in a sense, but that's my plan for right now for next week.
Gray Hair DaveSo until then, if you live in the United States, this week is Thanksgiving week.
