Welcome to the Nursepreneur Academy podcast where nurses like you discover how to break free from the bedside and build a flexible, profitable business using the skills, knowledge and experiences you already have. I'm your host Liam Caswell, an RN turned full time six figure nursepreneur. In 2021, Everything changed for me in my career.
I left my senior nursing role to build an online nurse led personal brand. One that gives me the freedom to work from anywhere, leverage the skills the hospital paid me to learn, and create both the income and impact I always knew I was capable of. Now it's your turn. I'm here to show you the possibilities beyond bedside and help you transition into a nurse led business that fits your needs and likes.
Whether you dream of working from home, earning what you're truly worth, or making an impact on your own terms, I'm gonna guide you every step of the way. Together, my friend, we'll make traditional nursing as you know it, optional. Now, let's get down to it and let's build your profitable business. Hello, incredible nursepreneurs. Welcome back to the Nursepreneur Academy podcast. Today, we are talking about how do you go from bedside to business and what are the steps involved. I'm going to cover with you today the six steps that I wish somebody painted out for me and gave me the step by step plan to achieve so that I could have achieved my goals much faster.
In my nurse led business, you are welcome aspiring entrepreneurs. This is the tea on how to build your business from the ground up. So what if I told you that there was a world where you could stop working? over time in a toxic nursing job and build your own business making money online, without having to wait for a pay rise to be negotiated by the EBA and the union.
What if I told you you could get comfortable and work from home in your PJs, heal from your nursing burnout career and ditch the shift work in the toxic nurse lead as a manager so that you can have the ultimate flex, which is work life balance. What if I told you, you could help more people in a year than you could ever in your nursing lifetime.
In a way that lights you the fuck up, and is so empowering and fulfilling whilst out earning your nursing salary with some buffer on the side. And what if I told you that you could become nursing career optional? Where you build a hybrid nursing career, where you maybe do a couple of shifts at work to keep your rego, and you've got a business that generates the income so that you don't have to worry or think again about money.
I know this all sounds too good to be true, but let me show you how it's possible when you build a business beyond bedside. It's exactly the process that I teach our nursepreneurs in the Nursepreneur Academy, and it's the process that I've used to be able to generate over 540, 000 in four years, building an online nurse coach business using the skills that the hospital paid me to learn.
So, let's dive in. I teach everybody in the Nursepreneur Academy to create their own signature methodology, a step by step process that takes a client or their client from A to B. And the bedside to business roadmap is my version of that. So, phase one of building a bedside to business career plan, right, for you moving forward and moving out of bedside into building a hybrid nursing career is allowing yourself to transition to nursepreneurship.
One thing that I've noticed as you build a business is that we've got to give ourselves space to transition and to step into the identity of who we're becoming. And also we've got to have a bit of space and time to grieve who we were or who we thought we were going to be at this age and time and space in our lives.
Kind of think of it like a transition to specialty program, but we're transitioning to nursepreneurship. So in this phase, we want to think about the transition process, right? The transition shock that comes with making any kind of leap like this. We want to focus in on our mindset and make sure that we're not operating from employee mindset and we're stepping into CEO or as I like to call it, NEO, nurse executive officer mindset.
We want to dive into, and I'm actually one of the few Business coaching programs that I know, especially in the nursing space, that really leans in and focuses in on building capacity within your nurse penurial nervous system. It's really important that as we set these big audacious goals and we build a business as a nurse that we Allow ourselves to heal from the burnout that has happened in the system, but we also build capacity within our nervous system so that we're making decisions about our business from a place of regulation and not from the place where we have spent our whole careers, which is fight, flight and spending time in a dysregulated space.
So we've got to think about how do we manage and build capacity within our entrepreneurial nervous system. We want to think about how do we manage our time as we're hustling alongside our nursing career and what are the core foundations that we need in the business setup. And here are some of the common mistakes that you guys are making when you're making this transition or you're thinking about it.
Number one is you think you need to quit. You think you need to quit your job immediately, and the spoilers, I don't recommend that whatsoever. In fact, it would be silly to do that. I did a version of that and it did not serve my nervous system Well, I don't want you to be at stress more so I want you to not quit until it's financially safe to do so.
We want to instead. Leverage the beauty of nursing which is working in a job that is lower stress so that you can make money on the side You do not need in this transition phase to overcomplicate everything focusing on logos websites or fancy tools Before you even have the business mindset and nervous system foundations locked in in the nursepreneur Academy I don't let people move forward until we have nailed their business mindset We've cleaned up some of their thinking.
We've created some space to heal from the toxic health care burnout that we're exposed to and that we lean into building and equip them the tools that I've spent tens of thousands of dollars learning so that they can understand how the nervous system works and how integral that is to business success.
And then you're all trying to do too much too fast, and you're burning out before the business even gets off the ground. You're jumping on doing, you know, Instagram lives, you're posting galore when you haven't even done your business foundations. You're paying 5, 000 to 10, 000 for a website.
You're buying all these products for your IV based business and you haven't even got the mindset yet to be able to run and operate this business as the six figure nursepreneur that you are. Okay, so we're going to adopt an entrepreneurial nervous system and mindset at the start. We're going to simplify it.
We're going to do things like registering your business, getting your bank account, getting those things that feel tangible done and dusted so that we can move forward. We don't need the bells and the whistles. I'm going to master and learn how to manage our time so that every hour you spend on your business is profitable.
Okay, and it starts out like that as you move forward. Embracing the fact that you've given yourself permission to take the leap and that you're going to be feeling all the feels and going through all of the mindset drama and the emotions, right? This is normal. It's not a sign to give up.
It's not a sign that you're not capable. This is the first stepping stone. I want to remind you here that you already have the skills and experience to succeed. That it's time to back yourself. You might not know what that looks like yet. That's totally fine. Now is not the time to be locking in your offer.
You don't need to know that right now. You just need to know that you have the desire to make nursing work for you better by starting some type of side hustle inside and in business. Step two is all about creating your business care plan. I know you're starting to see a theme here. that I like to use nursing language in everything that I do.
I mean, we are nurses, right? So we want to create a business care plan. It's kind of like a business plan, right? But like with a bit of a nursing twist on it. We're going to look at what you want your business to look like. We're going to look at things like core foundations around three year vision setting, you know, doable goals.
We want to look at what it looks like at one year, two years, three years. We want to identify your profitable business model and we want to lay the nursepreneur foundations. We want to manage our expectations as we're moving forward so that we know that we are making the right steps and taking the right steps to build our nursepreneur side hustle.
So common mistakes here are things like skipping the planning phase, diving right into building business, setting up your Instagram account, posting online, asking people to come work with you when you don't even have an offer yet. You don't have the foundations. This is a good one, trying to help everyone.
And everybody is not your audience. Okay, like here we should not even be making offers to anybody. We want to give ourselves the space to be able to lock in a high level vision and do a bit of an analysis. Like, how much do you actually need to generate from this business? We have to start there so that we can understand what this will look like over the next 6, 12, you know, 24, 36 months.
So that we can then dive into who you're actually going to help. And then a lot of people tend to start off by picking the most familiar or common strategies or business models, right? That don't align with your strengths or capacity. And so they end up wasting. A lot of time, a lot of frustration, and a lot of money on the wrong things.
For example, you might think, Oh my god, cosmetics is all the rage right now. I'm gonna go and spend 20 grand, or 10 grand, or 7 grand. They're all different price points on a cosmetic certification. I wouldn't be doing that. Until I definitely understood what it takes to run a business that is a cosmetics based business.
The same is true for IV hydration or coaching, for example. So you want to know and build your skills and insights more around the business model before you dive in and decide to get certified in that approach. This is where everybody does it wrong. They go and get the certification, then they go, Holy moly, I did not know that this was the process.
I didn't know. That in order to make 100k as a IV hydration nurse, I need 400 clients a year. Okay, well that means that I need marketing skills. Oh, what's marketing? Dot, dot, dot. Now, of course, all of this can be learned, but we want to do it the opposite way. We want to have the business acumen, so that we can then go and launch a business that's successful from the get go.
So, In the Nursepreneur Academy, I actually teach people in this phase that we actually look at the different types of business models. And I'm going to do a separate episode on this, but I've broken it down to two different models, right? And I predominantly talk about coaching digital products courses, but I also talk about service based businesses like IV hydration and cosmetics.
And the reason why is because the business foundations across all types of businesses are the same, right? You need business knowledge and skills around. Business building, planning marketing, sales, lead generation, you know, all of the things to be able to build any type of business like this. But I've specifically created care plans for each business and what makes them successful.
I'm not going to go into them here, but just keep in mind that the simpler your business model, the better and the more scalable and the more profitable over time. So for those of you that are already thinking at this point in time, I'm going to have four different offers.
I'm going to do X, Y, and Z. I'm going to do a retreat and I'm going to do a conference. That's amazing. I love the ambition and I love the dreaming. You've got to reign it in. Cause you will be three years down the track and you will not have done any of that and you will not have sold a lot and you will be resenting your business.
Trust me, I did that. I did all of the mistakes, so I'm here to stop you from making the same mistakes. So you want to lock in and identify your ideal business model that aligns with your strengths or that feels the most doable in relation to your nervous system capacity. Okay, because this is a huge leap.
It's a big leap and you want to go, Oh my god, I'm going to do cosmetics that I've never done before. So I've got a huge uphill learning streak there. And I've never marketed or sold before so I need to learn how to do that. Oh, and I've never learned how to write copy. Oh my goodness. I need to do that.
I've never, you know, priced something in my life. So you can start to see that your nervous system could be quite hijacked. By picking the wrong business model that doesn't at least align with some of your strengths. Okay, now step three is all about identifying and creating what I call your six figure niche and offers and finding your niche is all about finding a pocket of people that want what you have to offer.
And that you create an incredible offer for them that is so easy to sell to them because it's so aligned with what they want. And there are so many issues that happen here when we are niching down, but it's kind of like That intersection between your experiences, your skills, and your passions that's profitable, that people will pay for, okay?
And so when I work with nursepreneurs and building out their niche and identifying the niche and building out a six figure 100k offer we dive deep into this. We spend a lot of time here. This is not something that should be rushed because when your niche is clear and you've spent a lot of time nursing your niche and gathering lots of data, the rest of your business will become so much easier to run.
Okay, because your marketing, your sales, your website, your content, your podcast, you go on. All of these things will be so tailored specifically to that ideal client and that niche that it makes everything so much easier and it does the selling for you ahead of time. I'm gonna talk about sales here.
We'll talk about it later. But it's really important to see that connection between picking the right niche that's profitable, that there's demand for And that you can monetize so that you can double down and you become the go to expert in that niche. Leveraging your skills, knowledge and experience that you've already generated, right, that you already have.
So some of the biggest mistakes that I see you guys making here is being too broad. Like, choosing a niche like, I help all nurses with burn out. It might sound inclusive, but it's far too vague. Your audience are gonna be like, but who? Like, who specifically? You know, like, is it mums that are, you know, mid career that are burnt out and looking for a way out?
Or is it a new graduate nurse? When your niche is too broad, your message will not speak to anybody. It will make it much harder for you to stand out. And we want you to be making money, right? We want you to be making impact and income. So we've got to make sure that we are not too broad. Too narrow, on the flip side, like if you're really, really too specific, it can be, especially if there's not a market for it, it's going to catch you.
You're going to get in trouble. So something like, I work with nurses in rural Australia who specialize in paediatrics and work night shifts. Like that's going to be far too specific. For who you're trying to attract, right? Because there might only be a very small pocket of people So you need an audience size that is big enough that you can be specific to But not too small that you're left with like an audience of like 300 people across the country, right?
Or across the globe We've got to make sure that there's balance in there So many of you when you're identifying a niche And you are trying to find your niche And creating offers You choose a niche but you solve the wrong problem Okay, that's not profitable, that there's no market for. People will not pay for something that isn't a problem, right?
People pay for painkiller solutions. You've got to identify what is the painkiller solution in my market, in my chosen niche, and how can I solve it better than anybody else? And that's what I help people do in the Nursepreneur Academy. We go, okay, how do we make this better? And here's another thing, a little bonus tip.
So many of you think because other people are doing it that means that the market's validated. That means that there's people willing to pay for it. So instead of getting all caught up in your imposter syndrome, and your fear that you're not good enough, what if you looked at it and went, well, what are they doing well and what are they not doing well?
And how can I solve that problem? And how can I be better? How can I get so good at creating this offer and make it so much better than what already exists on the market? So that I am in a rule of one, like I am on my own and I don't have competition. That's what we're playing for as nursepreneurs and it's what's totally doable.
It's what made me become a multiple six figure business owner, a nurse coach, nursepreneur in the career coaching space. Think about it. There are Hundreds, if not thousands of career coaches, and they all solve the same problem. We all help people apply, interview, and land a dream job. But you know what they didn't do?
They didn't offer guarantees like I did. They didn't make it super easy. They weren't nurses. So I was able to leverage my unique flavor. And bring that to the offer and it became a multiple six figure offer whilst I was charging 2, 000, 3, 000, sometimes even 4, 000 for career coaching. These other career coaches were selling resumes for like 150 bucks.
Who do you think is going to get to their goal faster? We want to be in that mid ticket zone so that we can command. The price point and have the authority so that we can build a brand that's going to generate income. So you can make nursing optional. We don't want to be solving the wrong problem. And then starting with low ticket niches by some niches.
What I mean by low ticket, it's cheaper. Okay, cheaper niches where you know, you might have seen these people online that are selling and ebook for 10 or like they've got a course and it's 29 bucks and whilst that's great and it seems amazing You probably do what I call fantasy math where you go oh my goodness If I got a hundred people buying this for ten dollars my math's terrible like I'll make a thousand dollars this month And the reality is in order to generate real money from low ticket offers, you need a huge audience and I'm talking more than 10, 000 people online.
And you also need to be excellent at marketing and you need to love it because that's all you're going to be doing. You're going to be marketing, marketing, marketing all the friggin time. So, starting with a low ticket niche and trying to sell something at a lower price point, unless you have a huge audience, is not an option.
You're just going to be spinning your wheels and you might make some money, but you're going to make like 20 bucks, 50 bucks, 100 bucks. Low ticket offers are something for future entrepreneurial you when you've established your first six figure offering. So what do I help people do? What should you be doing?
You should be nursing your niche. You've got to basically apply the nursing process to your niche. You've got to look at how you assess, you know, what they need, diagnose it. Implement a couple of plans like evaluate, test and refine. We've got to get down to the nitty gritty where you know your person better than they know themselves.
We advocate around here for starting with mid to high ticket offers. So think about solving bigger problems for fewer people. It's easier to generate 100k solving a bigger problem for fewer people than it is solving a low ticket problem, 10 bucks. for a thousand, 10, 000 people. It's insane, right? So, just think about that.
You want to price yourself around the mid to high ticket. And the way that you do that, because I can tell you right now your nervous system is probably flaring, and you're thinking, I don't have something to offer at that price point. Well, this is where this process comes in, because you've assessed the market, you've looked at what our competitors are doing, and then we go, okay.
How do we nurse our niche so that we understand them so well and we create an offer that makes it a no brainer that this is 2, 000 or 3, 000 or 5, 000? So don't let your limiting beliefs around money influence how you would show up in this process. That's why being in a container or getting the support on the journey instead of DIYing it is just so much better.
And then we want to solve a painkiller problem, right? We want to solve something that is a real pain for people. And you have the solution, people will pay for that, okay? People don't pay for vitamins, right? Like, they're like, oh, a vitamin, oh, that's nice to have. They want a painkiller solution. Okay, so that is step three.
Step four is all about holistic marketing and socials. Okay, so many of you are worried about social media and what's ironic about that is you're already posting on there. So why not just post on there and make money from it? Like you can keep your personal life separate and create a business page and you can do that in your way.
Right? It doesn't have to be the way I do it or the way that you see people online doing it. It can be your unique way. It doesn't matter. But the reason why I call it holistic marketing is because we are serving and solving one specific problem for your people. But we want to get a holistic, well rounded idea.
Of who your client is so that we can create content and assets and resources that holistically solve problems for your people at all points in their journey. Okay, social media is not cringe. Social media is literally helping other people globally print money on demand while stay asleep. And if you think that Doing social media or being online is like cringy and I could never do that.
I could never put my face out there. We have to work on that because this is the digital era. This is the future and moving forward it's how people are gonna be making money. It is already how millions of people make money online as part of the creator economy, which I think at the current estimate is worth over a billion dollars.
Why should you not have a portion of that and have the flexibility and the freedom that comes from building an online nurse led personal brand business? It's insane. So marketing is just basically to let people know that you exist, right? It's kind of like if you open a pizza shop, like you want to make sure that people know that the pizza shop is open, right?
Otherwise, how do they make sales? So what many people do wrong with marketing and social media is they just post random content. They did what I did right at the start of my page, which if you scroll right down to the bottom you'll see I was posting things like Quotes from other people and I was just screenshotting things that I thought were funny and I was sharing them and whilst that's lovely and it got me started and took the edge off about me not needing to have to put out my own opinions and my own thoughts, it wasn't generating any sales, okay?
So, we have to find that Content sweet spot where you serve people ahead of time you provide immense value through your offerings and through your freebies Just like this podcast does and then a particular portion of those people who are ready to rock and roll They will raise their hand and they'll say I would love to work with you.
So we don't want to post just random content without a strategy that is not going to build an audience or community and it's not going to get you the income and the results that you're looking for. We don't focus on vanity metrics like likes, right, over actual engagement. No, it doesn't matter how many people like your post, whether it's one or ten.
What matters is, are they coming into your world? Are they joining or downloading your free lead magnet? And then are they coming through your email sequence and getting on a sales call? That's what matters. And we've got to measure the data that truly, truly matters. And one big common mistake in marketing is that many of you don't have an email list.
Okay, if you're a new nursepreneur, this will not make complete sense to you. But basically Every business and brand has an email list where they have your email, their name, your name, and they are selling to you all the time, okay? And so in order to be a successful nursepreneur, you have to, from day one, which is what I didn't do, and I kick myself for this to this day, generate and build an email list of warm, potential people that are interested in what you have to offer.
And through that process, you can get so good at writing emails that you can send an email and you can make money. thousands of dollars without needing to get on a sales call. I know it sounds too good to be true, but trust me, it is true and it's absolutely an essential part of creating like a client centered holistic marketing plan for your business.
So what, what does success look like here? How do we actually do this? Well, first and foremost, before you start posting on social media, you've got to do all of your niche homework and then you've got to think about what could I create for these people? That is so valuable ahead of time that they're like, damn, I should have paid for this.
Okay, so examples of this when I was doing my career coaching was my CV guides, my CV templates. People were paying for that. I created it for free and put it out there. I could have charged for it, but I created it for free and I had thousands of people download it, which meant that I had thousands of people join my email list and had thousands of people to sell to.
With that needing to get on a sales call. Okay, so we want to create what I call a transformational freebie that takes them from like where they are to like a little step further forward, but offers them immense value. It's not just cookie cutter that they could Google online. It's not just what they could find on tick tock.
It's your unique approach. It's your unique flavor that shows them like maybe this person is who I could be working with. Then, of course, we want to start building out a social media plan and creating content ahead of time that really strategically speaks to what your people are struggling with. No spraying and praying, right?
No wasting your time. We want to create a content strategy. On one social media channel that allows you to show up and to deliver high value content for your dream client so that you are nurturing them all the time. Okay, and there's a whole process behind what that looks like. In fact, one of our nurse pruners said to me, I didn't even know that there was a thing like that people.
Planned content. Yeah, it's a real thing, and it's we have to get really good at it, and it's actually one of my favorite parts, creating content. It's really fun, and it's something I used to hate, but now I love it because of the lens in which I look at it and through the process that I've created that makes it much easier for you to be able to navigate.
So that's holistic marketing and socials at a high high level. That's step four. In this, I actually created a holistic client marketing model, which I have in my Bedside to Business free roadmap. So, little self plug here, but you'll see what I'm doing, because this is exactly how you run a business, is I've broken down each of these steps in my Bedside to Business roadmap, and I want you to have that asset.
It is immensely valuable, and it breaks down everything I've covered here. In more depth and all of my frameworks are in there that I teach in the Nursepreneur Academy and I'm giving them all to you for free in there. So make sure you head to the show notes and download that. But in there, I have the holistic client marketing tool and this is where we put kind of like our nursing process, right?
We put our client in our niche and our profitable client niche in the middle and we build everything around it. And so if you think of that like a client centric model in the healthcare system, we've got the MDT, we've got all the assets, the resources, we've got the funding, we've got all of these things, we've got the values that we live by in the system that help us create a really positive client journey.
The same is true in holistic client centred marketing for nurses. I want you to see that there are so many transferable skills from nursing into nursepreneurship. Like, it breaks my brain every time I think about it, like, how there are so many similarities that, in fact, for you to go from bedside to nurse preneurship, the leap is not that big, actually, because of the way that I've been able to remind you and show you, through nursing concepts, how easy it can be.
Okay, so I just want you to think about that as you're going through this process. And if you want to learn more about the client centric model, you'll have to download the guide. Step five, simple sales and moneymaking. Who would have thought that I would say sales are simple. Here's the thing. Sales is not simple for a lot of people.
Sales is actually quite challenging, but for nurses, we sell every single day. Think about it. Every time you provide care, you convince a patient to get out of bed, you negotiate with the doctor, you advocate to the multidisciplinary team, you're selling, right? You don't know it, but you're selling. You're selling them on an outcome, on a destination.
You're taking them from A to B. And I just want you to see that Selling doesn't have to be what we think sales is, based on traditional sales ideology, right? We think sales is a guy in a tux at a sleazy car, you know, showroom, and he's like putting the hard sell on you, and you're sweating and he's sweating, and you're leaving there with a new car that you didn't want.
That is not sales in the online space. In fact, sales can be the most fun part of an entrepreneur led business when you do it right. And the issue is here, and I've done hundreds of sales calls, and I've had good sales calls, I've had terrible sales calls. And through that process, I've created my Trauma Informed Sales Framework and process.
Which basically helps you understand where your person's at, where they want to be, and coach them and guide them and serve them, instead of selling them, through a Trauma Informed Sales Framework. This is the secret to making more sales online. And I don't know how I ever made a sale without it because it just works and it gets your person into such a safe state so that then you're not selling to them.
You're not pushing, you're not being sleazy, you're not feeling grimy, you're not feeling that yucky sales approach. You are literally just listening, serving and you're presenting without the pitch. Okay. And so, common mistakes here is that, one, we forget that we're actually salespeople. Every nurse is a salesperson.
You just don't know it yet, but you are a salesperson. Think about it when you're at work the next day. I want you to think about how you're doing this already. So, failing to use those transferable skills like listening, advocating, tailoring your words, paraphrasing, coaching. Like, that's what makes sales feel unnatural and awkward because you think it has to be harder than it is.
But it's really quite simple. It is literally just a nurse led coaching conversation taking somebody from A to B and you do it every single day. Not building trust? Imagine caring for a patient that you haven't built trust for. How difficult is that? Are they using the call bell all day? Like are they resistant?
Are they in a state of safety or are they in a state of dysregulation, fight or flight, chronic stress? They don't feel safe. You don't feel safe. The whole day is much harder. Sales is about building trust and nurses are really good at building trust. We do it every single day. The same is true in sales online and overcomplicating it and overthinking the process.
Like sales doesn't have to be fancy. You don't have to have all of these complex steps or systems. Simple. Systems and trauma informed nurse coach sales processes will sell. Complex systems, it will fail every time. There's a saying online, simple sells, complex fails. And it's so, so true. And so, I'm so passionate about nurses making more sales, that I created this process.
So, I want you to think about success here looks like using your transferable skills. Using your active listening. Tailoring your offer to the needs of the person that you're on the phone with. Listening to and paying attention to non verbal cues. Hesitation. Excitement. Right? They're like non verbals if you're on a Zoom call with them.
Maybe you're doing it on the phone. Building connection and rapport and creating safety. And then the next evolution of that is building and creating a simple automated sales flywheel. Now I've coined this term flywheel because I have been running funnels, which is basically an email marketing campaign, which is just emails written ahead of time that go out over a period of time that offer value and from your freebie to your email list.
And I created a Nursepreneur 100k sales flywheel because what I found with the funnel approach was that people were getting to the bottom of the funnel, they get the last email, and then they just sit on my email list forever. So I've created this process where they go from downloading your freebie.
to where you nurture them and support them and you position your offer and we keep doing that until they either buy or they leave your email list. And that might sound a little bit complex it's really simple in the way that it's designed and once you've done your niche work and you understand your client, this becomes so much easier in all these fancy words like funnels and flywheels.
Honestly, you'll be like, Oh my goodness, I'm so glad that I did this at the start. And I didn't wait like I did for 18 months before I implemented any of these processes. So again, that flywheel is in the guide. So bedside to business roadmap. So make sure you go and grab it in the show notes. If you're curious, I want you to also focus on outcomes, not processes, right?
So. A huge issue that we make when we're selling, and I did this as well, is you'll say things like, in my Bedside to Burnout coaching program, you know, or Burnout to Brilliance coaching, you'll get eight coaching calls with me! And I'm like, and? What does that mean? Like, what does that mean? Like, what do we do in the eight coaching calls?
There are so many questions that your client has, and it's like, no one cares about your modality, the coaching, like, the assets, they care about the results. They care about their outcomes. They care about how they're going to feel. They care about how they're going to, you know, show up to work. They care about what their day to day life looks like when they have gone through your program.
No one cares that they've got a sales flywheel. But they care about the fact that they've got money in the bank, right? And that they're making nursing optional. So I want you to start thinking about forgetting about your process and your modality. And this is another reason as to why it does not matter whether you have the certifications or not, in the coaching space in particular.
Because you are already a coach without those qualifications, and I guarantee you no one will ever ask you about your coaching qualifications. And it adds value to the process, but it doesn't add value to the sales process. Okay, so don't think you need these certifications in order to sell marks, you don't.
So I will leave the teaser for the 100k nursepreneur sales firewall because it's in the guide and you're gonna love that and it's gonna really help you see visually if you're a visual learner how it works and how it flows and how we could implement that into your business to generate 100k. Now step six is all about launching and learning, okay?
We want to give ourselves enough of a runway to be able to build your business. If somebody tells you you can build a business in like three months, which is what I bought into when I first started. Listen, I did it whilst working at bedside, but I didn't build a business. I built an offer. They're lying to you.
They're going to offer you a very simplified, oversimplified process of what business looks like. And I'm not about that. And I'll tell you why, because I had to rebuild that multiple times because I didn't do it right the first time. And I'm really passionate about helping nurses not do the same thing because it's cost me time and money and a lot of headaches and a lot of frustration.
So I want you to think about when we launch this offer in your business, you launch it in a way that you are so confirmed that this is the thing and you've got the validation, you've co created it with your audience and you've created excellent assets for social media and your freebie and you've got the systems in place.
And this is the stage where. You get to introduce you off to the world and we get to see what's working. What's not working. Okay, we don't build your whole offer out because there are things that will change inevitably. Okay, so you don't have to wait for it to be perfect.
You don't have to wait to have each module designed and recorded and created. You don't need that. All you need is a high level outline of your offer. You need to be one or two steps ahead of your client, especially in this first phase of business. Once you've established that your offering works, then you can lock it in, right?
So for me, you know, year one, I had a bit of an idea, but then like year two, I knew that this would work. I just didn't make immense income with it because I was juggling lots of things. But year two, I thought, oh, this could actually work. Year three, I turned it into a group coaching program. I built out the curriculum and it worked.
Okay, you don't need to have all of the assets created from day one to be able to launch. And common mistakes here when we're launching. is not launching to an email list that you've been nurturing for months. So, in the Nursepreneur Academy, I start building the email list of our people very early on in the process, so that when they launch, they have people that are warmed up, that are ready to work and roll, that know, like, and trust the individual that I'm working with, and they're more likely to buy.
Waiting for perfection, right? Like waiting for it to be perfect and for the offer to be finessed. It will never be perfect. We have to get good at putting out work that is what we would think is like be your C minus grade work, but the world thinks is like, wow. This is incredible. Okay, we have to get really good at that as a nurse.
Pernod giving up after one launch, right? So I see this happen all the time. People start their business, they make an offer, it flops, and they go into this like deep shame and embarrassment cycle, which makes total sense. But here's the reality. Business is all about trial and error. It's about winning and succeeding and losing and failing.
It is about experiencing the full spectrum of human emotion and lived experience. So giving up after you've launched once you like, You need to understand that business compounds over time. And as a nursepreneur, that is the ticket to freedom. Is not giving up after one misstep. Not giving up after one launch that maybe you thought you were gonna get five and you got two people in.
Instead, celebrate the two, and over deliver the heck to the two people, and then those people will tell ten people. And that's how I built my business. When I first started, I didn't have a lot of people. I did not have a lot of people coming into my world and so I was so reliant on delivering an excellent service to these people that did invest in me and then they went out and told other people and now to this day, I still get messages from people saying, by the way, John, you worked with him four years ago.
He told me about your program that I want to work with you. And I make sales like that because I've built brand equity over time. So do not give up. The only way we fail as a nursepreneur is by quitting. Okay? We don't give up. We test, we refine, we tweak. It's the nursing process.
Nursepreneurship is a science. It's just like nursing. We literally Put something out into the world, we test it, we tweak it, we refine it and we make it even better and it does better the next time. It's actually one of my favorite things about building a business. And then launching too soon is a big issue here, right?
So if you're somebody that's launching your offer and you're on this, you know, fast blitz and just launched your Instagram and you're already saying come join my offer, you haven't built any equity with people. I want you to hear me when I say this. If you've just started your business and you start straight out the gate with your offer and you say pick me, pick me, work with me, it just reeks of desperation and I know this because I did this.
Okay, so I'm just protecting you from this. You want to build a bank of positive vibes and energy. You want to be giving more than you take. And this is one thing that I teach people to do. It's like we don't publicly sell. We don't show up on stories and go, you know book a call with me today.
Like, I've done all of this stuff. If you follow my socials, I've done this, but it just doesn't land. The algorithm hates it, and your followers don't like it. Your ideal client's sitting there and they're like, oh. So we want to avoid doing that. We want to create systems and structures and processes in your business so that when you do launch, you're selling privately and you're serving people publicly.
And that is how you build brand equity. That's how you build brand credibility. Connection and trust. It's not through trying to launch too soon to an audience of zero or to an audience of 10, 15 people without an email list because there's no way for you to nurture them. Did you know that on Instagram and all these platforms, like, if you looked at the engagement that your profile actually gets, only like something like 0.
01 percent of people on your page are seeing your offer, are seeing your posts, regardless of how good they are. Some of the biggest accounts still have such low engagement because the algorithm decides. So if you want to make consistent sales and you want to build a business that's profitable as an entrepreneur, you have to serve publicly, online, you have to deliver heaps of value ahead of time for free, which is amazing.
It's so fun to create that stuff. It's one of the reasons why I love being an entrepreneur. And then we bring people into our private world in our emails and we nurture them because we're in control of that list. And you will get much higher engagement there, and more people will see what you have to offer, and more people will buy.
So launching too soon, when you don't have brand equity, and you haven't put any positive vibes out there, and positive, you know, value ahead of time, just means you're gonna Demoralize yourself and launch a business that's just gonna like fall flat. Okay, and I don't want you to do that So I want you to be profitable and make money So what does success look like here when we're launching?
We're just launching a minimal viable product, right? We're launching something that we have tested and proven that people potentially want but we don't know until we launch it it's very rare that it will not succeed, but what will happen is that we will probably tweak and tailor it. So that's why we don't want to go deep into creating the whole curriculum and going too far in depth.
We want to collect data and feedback through the whole process. This is what we do as nurses, right? We use observational data. all the time. So we're like, what worked? What didn't work? What could be better? It's kind of like the reflective Gibbs cycle process. This data is going to help us double down and focus on what worked and what didn't work.
Instead of looking at likes and like how many followers you've got, we're going to be looking at engagement, which posts got the most engagement, which email got opened the most, like how many people clicked. There's so many other data pieces behind the process that actually are profitable that I can help you with.
For you to be able to build your entrepreneurial skill set so you can make six figures online and then some we're going to obviously refine and repeat as we move forward and rinse and repeat. And that's the process. That is the process of building a successful nurse panoramic business. That is the road map.
You'll notice in there. I'm not saying spend hours on a website, you know, invest in loads of certifications if you want to make the most. High return, you know, income, high return from a business, a side hustle building a hybrid nursing career. It comes through following the step by step process laid out in the bedside to business roadmap, and I'm really proud of this.
And we're starting to see in our nursepreneur academy in my nursepreneur clients. I use this process to build out the whole nursepreneur academy. And that's why I teach it. And, you know, it took me three years to turn My business into one 18 months into a six figure career coaching business, and I've been able to do that in six months with the bedside to business road map that I used and applied, and not only that, we've got nursepreneurs in there across the spectrum of their career that are there.
Using this road map and going from, you know, graduate nurse that's a return to practice graduate nurse, one of our amazing clients, and she's built a business coaching program for service based businesses, and she has gone through this process over the last six months and generated a 5000 sale.
on launching it, which is insane. So she basically made back her investment at the time of recording, which is crazy. And then Sam, I think she generated something like seven grand in total alongside her nursing. That's more than it took me to make in the first six months of my business. It's insane. So this process works and I would love you if you are an aspiring side hustler, you know, you want to, or you're, NLP practitioner, Reiki.
You know, you're already offering something and you're thinking, Oh my goodness, I'm missing so many of the components. Don't beat yourself up. Don't keep DIYing it. Come and have a chat to me. Let's discuss and ideate your game plan for your business. And let's look at how you can implement aspects of the Bedside to Business Roadmap.
Make sure you go to the show notes and download the guide here. I put so much time and effort into this. This is literally like 25 pages of PDF goodness. And it has everything that I wish I knew at the start of building my business so that you don't have to make the mistakes that I made because I know that there's somebody that needs what you have to offer.
And I'm so excited that you're bringing it to the world, but we have to make sure that you have the foundations. I kind of liken it to this. It's like going into a graduate nursing program. I mean, so many of you have experienced that. And how was that? It was hellish. It's absolutely horrific. Starting a new job, getting promoted and having no support and no transition support.
The same is true when you start your own business. It's kind of audacious to think that you can start a business and not have the support to make it successful whilst you have so many transferable skills and experiences, there's so many things that You just will not know, okay, with that being in a container of like minded, high performing nurses that are going after huge audacious goals and building businesses that make nursing optional.
So I'd love to invite you to download the guide. It's completely free. And I'm going to be sending you more of behind the scenes of what it takes to build a business alongside this roadmap. So you'll get emails from me. that are selling you on why you should do this and why it's the perfect route for you to take to make nursing career optional and to generate more income, more flexibility, more time freedom as a nurse.
