Speaker B

Welcome to the elevated edit podcast.

Speaker B

I'm your host, Blakely Ramsey.

Speaker B

And I'm sure there's going to be a lot of tension today, and so I wanted to talk about something that we can control, that we are 100% in control of, and that is our energy and our thoughts.

Speaker B

And for me, I used to be someone who thought that people who talked about, oh, well, you need to, you know, practice putting out good energy.

Speaker B

You need to practice working on your mindset, working on your thoughts.

Speaker B

I was like, okay, that's great.

Speaker B

Like, I'm glad that you can sit around and meditate and have positive thoughts and do all these things and visualize, but, like, I'm over here actually working.

Speaker B

And what I have realized over the last couple of years is that that mindset was actually holding me back.

Speaker B

And now that I am working on putting out better energy and working on my thoughts and working on my subconscious mind, it actually allows me to work smarter and not harder, which has transformed my life.

Speaker B

My work now comes from a place of joy.

Speaker B

And, yes, I still want to work hard.

Speaker B

I still want to be challenged, but I no longer feel like I'm bashing my head against a wall trying to just get stuff done every day.

Speaker B

And so it has.

Speaker B

It's been a massive shift for me.

Speaker B

So I want to read a stat really quick before we dive too far into this conversation.

Speaker B

So, it is estimated that the average person has around 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts every day.

Speaker B

Okay.

Speaker B

Of those thoughts, approximately 80% are thought to be negative, and about 95% are repetitive, meaning they are the same thoughts we had the day before.

Speaker B

So really think about that for a second.

Speaker B

80% of our thoughts are negative, and 95% are repetitive.

Speaker B

So the vast majority of our thoughts every single day are negative thoughts that we have every single day.

Speaker B

And when I started researching this and diving into it, I was like, wow, I I want to just see if that is true for me.

Speaker B

And obviously, you can't, especially if you've got any kind of ADHD or anything like that.

Speaker B

You cannot count how many thoughts you have in a day.

Speaker B

I can't even count how many thoughts I have in a minute because there's way too many.

Speaker B

All the tabs are open all the time.

Speaker B

Um, but I would just kind of try to be aware of my thoughts, and I realized that I always went to the negative.

Speaker B

Like, I would wake up in the morning and be like, ugh, I've got to do this and this and this today, and I have to talk to that person, and, ugh, I still have to do that and that and that and, oh, great, another bill.

Speaker B

And, oh, gosh, it's cold outside, and I forgot to let my car.

Speaker B

Oh, my gosh, I gotta get gas.

Speaker B

You know, it's just like, literally, like, when I would, like, kind of step back and pay attention, I was like, oh, my goodness.

Speaker B

I literally have negative thoughts all day long.

Speaker B

I would have a couple positive thoughts here and there, but something actively had to happen for me to have a positive thought.

Speaker B

Like, I had to see a puppy or I had to, you know, get a new client or whatever.

Speaker B

It was like I was waiting for the world to give me the happy thought.

Speaker B

And so, look, I am not perfect by this by any means at this point, but I have been really working on trying to have positive thoughts and have good thoughts, and I don't like the word good for me, I'm going to just say positive because I feel like good is so subjective and it has been such a game changer for me.

Speaker B

I mentioned this in an episode a while back, but for me, when I am thinking positive thoughts and I am looking for positive things, I find them.

Speaker B

And the reverse is also true.

Speaker B

When I'm thinking negative thoughts, I'm subconsciously looking for negative things.

Speaker B

And so I find them.

Speaker B

And I'm finding now that I can be in the exact same situation as a situation I would have been a year ago, and my perspective on it looks completely different.

Speaker B

And the result ends up being completely different because I show up as a different person.

Speaker B

Because I show up expecting good things to happen.

Speaker B

I show up expecting people to be happy to see me.

Speaker B

I show up expecting to leave with a new prospect or a new idea or a new thought.

Speaker B

And when I expect for those things to happen, they do, versus in the past, I would be like, oh, my gosh, I'm probably going to be late, and I'd be late, or I'm going to snag my dress, and I'd snag my dress, or I'd be like, I'm going to get there and see somebody that I don't like.

Speaker B

And I'd get there and I'd see somebody that I didn't like and I would be stuck talking to them for an hour.

Speaker B

And so it has been like such a monumental shift.

Speaker B

It's been a lot of work, but it's been worth it to kind of just practice shifting my mindset.

Speaker B

And I try to now, like, before I get out of the car, before I go in somewhere, I will be like, okay, what kind of energy am I bringing into this environment?

Speaker B

Like, am I stressed and worried and anxious?

Speaker B

Because if I walk in a room, stress, worried and anxious, then I'm going to attract stress, worried and anxious.

Speaker B

So the most anxious person in the room is going to, like, zip to me and they're going to cling to me and they're going to throw all their negativity and energy on me.

Speaker B

We're going to throw my negativity and energy on them, and then we're just going to stay there in that conversation versus if I take a beat before I get out of the car, put on some good music, and I go, okay, this situation is going to be positive and encouraging, and I'm going to get out of the car and only the best things are going to happen to me.

Speaker B

I'm going to be given the best offers, I'm going to meet the best people.

Speaker B

And it's not magic.

Speaker B

It's like, I definitely don't think or believe anything like that.

Speaker B

No offense, if you do.

Speaker B

I don't personally think that.

Speaker B

I just think that I end up showing up as a better person.

Speaker B

I walked in the room with better energy, and so people look at me and the people with good energy are instantly attracted to me.

Speaker B

So they come over and they want to have a conversation.

Speaker B

We get to talking and, oh, my goodness, we have either a mutual connection or a mutual goal, and I can help them and they can help me.

Speaker B

And then I leave the situation with a new friend and an exciting new idea and, you know, a new network, and the whole situation changes based on how I walked into the room and as a full circle.

Speaker B

That is what we can control.

Speaker B

So I have really tried to work on the my thoughts and work on just being aware of my thoughts.

Speaker B

I'm not necessarily always going to change them in the moment.

Speaker B

I mean, sometimes I get really worked up over the dumbest things and I will not be able to get off of it.

Speaker B

But I'm at least trying to be aware now of the fact that I do that.

Speaker B

And I try to not sit in it too long because I definitely don't want to encourage and I also don't want to do this myself.

Speaker B

I don't want to pretend like negative things don't happen and I don't want to have negative emotions.

Speaker B

But instead of sitting in that negative emotion, I now try to figure out, okay, what can I do about it?

Speaker B

Like, what kind of person can I be to either resolve this problem or change this problem?

Speaker B

Or what kind of fresh perspective can I bring to this situation?

Speaker B

Or what kind of good energy can I bring?

Speaker B

Or whatever it is?

Speaker B

I try to shift the thought that I'm having, the negative thought that I'm having on its head and look at it from a different way.

Speaker B

And you know what?

Speaker B

If you shift it and it's still a crappy situation, then it's still a crappy situation and you just let yourself feel that emotion.

Speaker B

But for me, I'm trying to not dwell in the negativity because I did for so long, and I just got more and more negativity back.

Speaker B

And I touched base on the subconscious mind for a little bit, but I want to give a little stat.

Speaker B

And I'm not going to go too far into this because people way smarter than me should be explaining this to you, but 95% of our daily thoughts and actions are controlled by our subconscious programming.

Speaker B

So it is controlled by things that we are not even aware of.

Speaker B

Like, we're not even aware that we're having a lot of these thoughts.

Speaker B

We are just running essentially on autopilot.

Speaker B

And I think that's why it's so important and it's so impactful for us to just kind of have, like, I call them my energy audits.

Speaker B

And once again, like, I try to slow down a little bit.

Speaker B

It doesn't have to be a full, like, oh, I meditate for 30 minutes every day.

Speaker B

Ain't nobody got time for that.

Speaker B

I'm sure somebody does have time for that.

Speaker B

I could have time for that if I made it a priority.

Speaker B

But for me, it's usually, like I said, two or three minutes in the car, or maybe before I get out of bed, I wake up with negative thoughts.

Speaker B

And that's one place I've really been trying to work on.

Speaker B

It's like waking up and just automatically, before I'm even fully awake, automatically running through my to do list for the day and all the things that I just don't freaking want to do.

Speaker B

So I try to stop myself and be like, okay, hold up.

Speaker B

Before I think about the negative stuff.

Speaker B

I'm very thankful for my husband.

Speaker B

I'm very thankful for our cats.

Speaker B

I'm thankful for my friends.

Speaker B

I'm thankful for my job.

Speaker B

I'm thankful for my family.

Speaker B

I'm thankful for our house.

Speaker B

And then by the time I get to the end of my list, I'm like, wait, what was my problem again?

Speaker B

Because when you start thinking about all the good things you have and all the positive things you have, it just kind of erases all of the other usually negative, small things.

Speaker B

Because I don't know about you, but I will start thinking about a problem.

Speaker B

And it does not matter how small or minute the hard word to say out loud.

Speaker B

I type it all the time, but I don't know if I've ever said it out loud.

Speaker B

All of those problems, I will literally be so laser focused on them, I won't be able to see things happening around me like good things happening around me.

Speaker B

I won't pay attention to them because I'll be so laser focused on those little tiny thing that I probably can't even control.

Speaker B

And that leads to my next point, is focus on what you can control.

Speaker B

So that is another thing that has been huge for me in the last year.

Speaker B

I think that's probably been one of my biggest, like, keys to growth is focusing on what, on what I can control and ignoring the rest.

Speaker B

And what I have found to is that when I focus on what I can control, so when a problem or an issue comes to my awareness, I go, okay, is this something that I have any control over, no matter how big or how small?

Speaker B

If the answer is blakely, you don't have any control over this situation, then I'm not going to worry about it.

Speaker B

And look, this is another one of those things that it's not easy when you first start working on this, but when you start analyzing things from that perspective, it allows you to not worry about, literally things that are not in your control.

Speaker B

So in situations like that, I go, okay, which part of this can I control?

Speaker B

And I just take those little sections and I focus on that.

Speaker B

And for me, I feel like it doesn't eliminate the problems.

Speaker B

The problems are still there, but it helps me shift my perspective to one that makes me feel like I am empowered and one that makes me feel like I actually do have a little control because I'm doing everything that I can.

Speaker B

I'm doing the best that I can do in the given situation.

Speaker B

And look, that's not always easy, especially with the environment that we're currently in, with the election and a lot of things that could come from the election.

Speaker B

There are a lot of scary thoughts.

Speaker B

There are a lot of things that we do need to be aware of and we do need to advocate for and we do need to be concerned with.

Speaker B

But I have tried to not just sit in the worry because once again, when I sit in the worry, I am thinking just millions of negative thoughts and then I start subconsciously looking for negative things to happen and negative things happen versus when I go, okay, this is really scary for me.

Speaker B

I personally don't have control over the result of this.

Speaker B

So I'm going to focus on what I can.

Speaker B

I'm going to make sure that I am taking good care of myself.

Speaker B

I'm going to make sure that I stay off of social media because I don't want to be influenced by everyone else's opinions and their lack of self awareness.

Speaker B

I am not going to watch the news.

Speaker B

I am going to control what I can.

Speaker B

I'm going to be an advocate for my values, but I am not going to dwell in the negativity because there's nothing that I can do about it.

Speaker B

And for me, that is not coming from a place of like, well, I'm just going to sit around and be passive in life.

Speaker B

No, I'm definitely going to stand up for what I believe in and I'm going to advocate for things.

Speaker B

And y'all know I'm a huge advocate for change.

Speaker B

I'm always going to advocate for change, especially if it's something that affects me personally.

Speaker B

That's just me being completely blunt and a little selfish.

Speaker B

But if it's something that affects me, I'm definitely going to advocate for it.

Speaker B

But I'm going to give 100% to what I can control and then I'm not going to worry about the rest of it because life is too freaking short and I don't want to sit around and be worried about stuff that may or may not happen.

Speaker B

And that is, I know it's so much easier said than done, especially when everything feels so loud and everything feels so aggressive, but that has helped me so much.

Speaker B

And I know I talked about this in episode four on the, on social media and its impact on us, but I really want to press again that we have got to be careful of what we consume.

Speaker B

So be it.

Speaker B

Media, music, social media, the people that we're around in person, they all impact our energy and our mindset.

Speaker B

Now with the work that I've been doing, I can, like, if somebody walks up to me and they are a negative, like, inherently in a negative mindset thinking negative thoughts, like, I'm just like, instantly, like, I've got to get away from this person.

Speaker B

I don't tell them that I do it with love, I do it with respect.

Speaker B

But like, I'm not going to let you drag me down.

Speaker B

And used to, I would, because I am an empath.

Speaker B

Empath.

Speaker B

An empath.

Speaker B

I would want to sit with that person in their misery and I would want to take some of that misery away from them, which I do like that trait in myself.

Speaker B

But what I'm learning now is that doesn't help either one of us because then we're both in a negative situation.

Speaker B

We're both in a negative mindset.

Speaker B

And so I have gotten to where I will just walk away.

Speaker B

I will unfriend on Facebook.

Speaker B

I will unfollow.

Speaker B

Like, I just don't want to be around negative energy.

Speaker B

And once again, that is not meant to be.

Speaker B

I don't want people to be passive.

Speaker B

But get back to your family, get back to the things you can control.

Speaker B

Get back to your life.

Speaker B

We can only do so much.

Speaker B

And for me, sitting around and complaining about things on social media is just not a good use of our time.

Speaker B

Like, if you're going to get on social media, share a Bible verse, share a positive quote, share something fun, share something exciting.

Speaker B

Yes, still advocate for what you want.

Speaker B

But I try to remember that when I'm on social media and I see something that I don't agree with.

Speaker B

And these last couple of months, there have been a lot of things I didn't agree with, but I either unfollow them or I just keep scrolling.

Speaker B

Because when has arguing with someone on Facebook ever changed their mind?

Speaker B

It's not going to.

Speaker B

Don't get caught up in that.

Speaker B

I used to do that.

Speaker B

I would get caught up in a negative cycle.

Speaker B

I would comment, and then I'd be going back and forth with this random person that I didn't even know their name, I just knew their Instagram handle, arguing back and forth with literally somebody I don't even know.

Speaker B

Like, how was that productive for anything?

Speaker B

How did that change anything?

Speaker B

And I look, I am judging myself in this situation and I am giving advice from things that I have certainly done wrong.

Speaker B

But it's so much, life is so much easier when we just let the negative energy go.

Speaker B

Let the negative people do their thing.

Speaker B

I'm not saying be complacent.

Speaker B

I'm not saying be naive.

Speaker B

I'm not saying be uneducated and unaware.

Speaker B

But control what you can control.

Speaker B

Control and be a light and life will get a little bit better and you'll make the people around you around you, you'll make their life a little bit better.

Speaker B

And that's what it's all about.

Speaker B

So, okay, I hope I stay on task.

Speaker B

I did not look, I only looked at my script for two of those quotes and I just rambled on the rest.

Speaker B

So I hope that I gave you all some kind of information that you can go out into the world and I use to feel better, make somebody else feel better, maybe encourage you to have a couple more positive thoughts, a couple less negative thoughts.

Speaker B

And just remember that no matter what happens in any situation, we can only control what we can control.

Speaker B

We can choose to choose our perspective.

Speaker B

We can choose to love others even when we don't agree with them.

Speaker B

And we can choose to be there for our family.

Speaker B

And remember that at the end of the day, they're the only thing that matters.

Speaker B

Okay, I'm done sounding like a hallmark card for the day.

Speaker B

Thank you so much for joining me in this episode.

Speaker B

And I really do hope that you'll have a good rest of the day, a good rest of the week, and that this next couple of weeks is not too rough on all of us and that we can hopefully maybe, I don't know, find middle ground.

Speaker B

I think I might be dreaming on that one.

Speaker B

I might be wanting a little bit too much, but I think maybe it's possible.

Speaker B

I don't know.

Speaker B

We'll see.

Speaker B

Okay, y'all have a great rest of your day.
