Hi, I'm Paige Killian and I'm passionate about helping busy moms of littles organize and style their life in three simple steps. Living this mom life is incredible and sometimes completely overwhelming. Is stressing about overstuffed drawers, never-ending mail piles a mountain of Legos and our kids' artwork.

Really what got intended? No way. Getting organized has been a game changer for me and also my clients, but it has to be simple or it just won't get done. So let's simplify the process and clear the clutter to see the blessings God has for us. I know your time is. So thanks for joining me each week for a healthy dose of organization and a whole lot of motivation.

Hey there. Welcome back to another episode. Happy January if you are joining us today in real time. And yes, I did say us because today I have an amazing and. Absolutely beautiful inside and out. Guest today, Jenna Lee Rudd, who has actually been on the podcast once before, where she talked to us about life, uh, being raised on plant, how she grew up, and how she is also having her little ones grow up in their sweet family.

And today I would love for you to welcome her with open arms over the radio or in the earbuds, however you're listening. Um, Jenna, thank you so much for being here again.

Thank you, Paige. I'm so grateful to be here. I mean, it is always such a blessing to just get some girl time where we can hang out and chat and, um, I feel like it was forever ago that I was on here, so I think I, I don't even think I had two babies yet.

I think I was still, you know, um, had half of my sanity and now we're, um, we're in full blown mom chaos mode over here constantly. I mean, it is, it is another level, so, but I'm so happy to be back on, especially this time of year. This is a good time of.

Yes, you and I both started talking. Well, first of all, I have to say thank you officially.

Thank you for writing the forward to my book. And the reason I'm thanking you now again, is because I'm so excited to announce that the audio book is available and we actually get to hear Jim's beautiful voice. So if you guys have picked up a copy before of the book, first of all, thank you. Second of all, You have to know how great a writer Jenna is, and now I'm really excited to say she's also amazing at reading this forward.

I have listened to it a couple of different times. It makes me laugh. It also totally chokes me up and makes me cry and feel emotional because you're so kind and things that you say. But, Really what we're gonna talk about today has a lot to do with some of the things you mentioned in that forward, which is all about the chaos and craziness of mom life, but also the goodness too, and how we can kinda lean on each other and figure out ways to simplify whatever it is that we're trying to accomplish, even if it's.

Bedtime. We talked about this the other day.

Just surviving, getting kids

bathed and fed and in bed is sometimes a huge ordeal. Um, and so as you and I have been talking about getting that audiobook off the ground and making sure all that stuff was taken care of, we really started talking about how important it is to simplify our lives when we might have this big vision, which tends to come at this time of year.

We get. Overloaded and inundated with all these new things that we're supposed to be doing because it's a new year, and that can feel incredibly overwhelming and for especially moms of littles when we are just trying to, you know, help them get shoes on their feet so that they can get to school on time.

It is really important to practice some of the little baby steps, so to speak, in order to get to our bigger vision of whatever it is that we are hopeful for. Would you agree with that and, and talk to us a little bit about how much you think that that might be important in your life right now.

Absolutely. I mean, well first of all, recording the audiobook was so fun, especially because I was locked in my closet surrounded by every blanket my husband could find in the entire house to create a sound barrier. I mean, I couldn't have gotten out of there if I needed to. Like I had to call him to let, have him let me out of my own closet when I was finished.

We were totally laughing because right before you recorded

it, you, you had checked in with me about something. You were asking something. Yeah. And we were laughing cuz you were like, okay, I'm gonna have to let you go now cuz I'm gonna record this and I really need to go to the bathroom and I'm not gonna be able to get out of here unless Jake wants me out of the

closet.

So yes, I was like, I have to pee Paige, I have to go cuz I have to record this and then we gotta get outta here. So, um, you know, never, never a dull moment. In this house. Um, but I can absolutely talk about this, this, um, conversation. I. Really, you know, I have been, um, an entrepreneur my whole life. I went to U C L A for, for college and, um, lived in LA which, uh, is the, is a hustle town.

I mean, truly like if you don't wake up in the morning and write a book and go on Oprah and ride in a marathon or something, walk, you know, run a marathon, you're, uh, failure. pretty much, um, on a regular basis. In your mind, at least, that's kind of the energy that comes across, um, in, um, in a city like that.

Or maybe in a, a line of work that you're in, or maybe even in a community, it can feel overwhelming. Um, some of you might just put pressure on yourself, you know, to do so much and to accomplish so much. I'm, I'm a big dreamer and I know Paige is too. We talk about this a lot. Uh, we have big, grandiose ideas and we love.

Sometimes sign up for more than we can handle. Um, you know, at least in our, in our, in our heart and whether or not that translates is up to how good we are at baby stepping our way, you know, to that big vision. So, you know, something that I've had to learn transitioning from kind of the life pre children, , entrepreneur, life of, I could create a vision board and I pretty much.

Could get through that vision board as the year went on, and, and I could, you know, I, I could accomplish a lot of things. What I've had to learn is to still have that big vision and to not limit yourself because you never know what's possible. And I, I, Paige and I both are women of faith and we both believe that, you know, when you are rooted in your core values and in a higher purpose for your life, Anything can happen, and it is so, it is so beautiful to see that play out.

If you'll just relax and breathe into your beautiful blessings and into being present with your family and doing the things that make you happy, because that will inevitably bring you. So much joy and get you to a place where you can mentally, physically, and emotionally and spiritually connect and accomplish the things you want to accomplish.

So I think, you know, as I am now as a mom, as I'm moving into, um, another new year, um, you know, we have, you know, the start of the year right now. It's such an exciting time. Um, I really have to, um, the side of my, my, my notebook. Let's just say that. That is the big dreams, and then I have to have, The baby steps, and I have to understand that I have to have both , but the baby steps are going to be the plan that get me there, and I also have to have the understanding to give myself grace if I just can't do it all within the first.

Three hours of the new year. Like I like to think I can in some situations. , are you like that too,

Paige? I am Like that. And the literally the entire time that you've been speaking, I think you can see me on camera that I'm just shaking my head. Nodding my head. Yes, yes, yes. And I also took an deep breath whenever you said.

We just have to take a breath because it's so easy for all of those things to go on our vision board and we have those grandiose plans, like you said. But one of the big things that I think has made this podcast successful and also your raised on plants business. So successful is that one of the most important things that you and I have learned, we put into practice in our business, which is to really chunk things down to bite size pieces so they're easily digestible.

Uh, didn't mean to really make a food reference there, which is appropriate for what you do, but there it is because the truth is those big bites, if we're gonna go without analogy, the big bites are very tough. It is not something that we can easily. Take in and be like, okay, this is totally what my body was ready for right now.

No, it's overwhelming. And uh, listen, we can choke. Okay. We can choke in life too. Uh, we'll just, we'll, we'll stop with the analogy for now, but I think you get the point, which is that not only do we. Tend to get these big lofty goals and visions. I know Jenna and I do, I know those of you who are listening definitely do.

I think there are probably a lot of dreamers who listen to these episodes. Um, and the reason that my three simple steps, Work for my clients when we are getting organized or in my own home is because it makes it feel a little bit more attainable. Makes it feel like you can actually start out with this huge big visions and then you baby step your way to it.

And then if you don't get to. Every single thing on your list, it's okay because you took some of those baby steps and you moved forward and we gotta talk about the fact that you've got a little one who's taking baby steps actually in her life right now. And what I have seen from all of the fun videos, if you guys are not following Jenna on any of the social media platforms, you have to, I'll certainly put her information in the show notes.

And by the way, her last episode, I'll pop that link in show notes as well, cuz it was fantastic. But you do have a second little one now. And I have watched her take those baby steps and sometimes she's confident and sometimes she's not. And then sometimes she'll just look over at big sister or mom or dad or your mom who I love and adore so much.

You have such involved family. I love it. And she gets that confirmation that it's okay if I fall. You're gonna help me back up. I'm gonna be able to get back up. Eventually, I'm going to be able to get to whatever that end goal is without feeling like I have completely wasted my energy. And so that is something that Jenna and I feel is very important.

Taking those baby steps to get to the end goal. And so I don't know about you, Jenna, but sometimes I get lost in the how. I might be really good at deciding like, okay, here's my why, this is why I wanna do these things in the new year, but then I get stuck in the how. And so I would love for you not only to pick up a copy of that book so that it can help you along the way, but I want you to talk about what you're up to next, Jenna, that is going to make our lives so much simple.

Yay. Oh man, I , I cannot believe we are here because, uh, we founded, raised on plans three years ago, almost to the day. And, um, when I started it, it was, it was just honestly spontaneous. It was me going. . I have so many mom friends that need these resources and need support and need to be validated that, you know, they're doing great.

life is hard. This is crazy. But I also have a desire to be better, and I want to learn and I want to do best, what's best for my family, and I'm confused by what's out there and all. Information that's bombarding me. I don't know what to believe. I don't know what, who the best expert is to, to learn from and all those questions, you know, we're, we're running around my own head, so I knew I wasn't alone.

Um, obviously our family has been really passionate about the power of plants for. Decades, me and my mom, her entire career has been dedicated to education on, um, a plant-based lifestyle and on simple lifestyle changes for, um, over 40 years now. She has changed thousands of lives with, um, our platform and her education.

And so that is where I get my passion for this for sure. But when I became a mom , that's when I really understood the importance of having those simple. Steps, those simple action steps and how consistency can actually lead to anything you want in life. And I want you all to just think, to think about that for a second.

I mean, you know, let's, let's use the example of we all want to make sure that we don't get cavities right? That is a good goal for pretty much any human being. Like, let's not not get cavities, right? So how do we do. , we brush our teeth every day. . We make it a habit. We're consistently brushing our teeth every day.

If you don't, don't tell anybody. Right? That is something that is ingrained in all of us that we teach our children because we know that's a hu that's an important part of prevention. Um, so the same thing applies to, to anything where you're look, whether you're looking at how you're fueling your body.

You know, I need to be brushing my cells every day with plant food, literally. That's what creates that resilience, that armor around you so that you are protecting your family from sickness, from chronic disease, but also heck, just being able to survive the day being in thrive mode instead of survival mode.

Um, which is a huge thing that we help families with. So, , those habits add up. And I love how this same concept can actually apply to what we're talking about today, uh, for your New Year's goals because, um, when you have any goal, no matter what it is, I don't care if it is to write a book, to save up enough money to do something amazing that you've been waiting to do, um, or to, um, you know, maybe.

be more present with your kids and figure out pockets of time to do that. Um, however small or big, um, the task is at hand, you can. Think about not necessarily the journey to get there, because typically to me, the journey looks like a rollercoaster that's been flipped upside down and then explode. It has exploded, and all the pieces fall everywhere.

Like you have no idea what that path is gonna look like. But what you could do is figure out what could I do every day? that's consistent, that's gonna move me closer to, towards this goal. Um, and really think about what that could be. And it, it might not be the same thing every day, but it might be blocking off.

20 minutes a day to work on it. Or it might be, I know every day I need to reach out and make a new connection for my, my business. If you are an entrepreneur or, um, have a side hustle or something like that, you know, that might be that consistency piece that you're missing of actually connecting with a new friend or building a new relationship.

Um, if it has to do with your health, it might be what is my morning routine look like? You know, how could I actually. Add some things into my morning routine, whether it's more hydration, functional foods, um, actually working through, um, just gratitude, a gratitude practice or time for you. Like, heaven forbid, waking up a few minutes before your kids jump scare you, you know, right in your face so you can actually like do something for you, for once.

Um, of course mamas, I know some of you are not even sleeping through the night, so any sleep is your only form of self-care right now. and you stick to that. But those of you that are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with the sleep game, maybe that's a great New Year's goal is to kind of move, move through that.

So all of these things have been just kind of, um, cycling in our, in our minds. And, um, we have funneled three years of content into an app for you guys, and it's called Raised on Plants. The. And it is out right now, and you can download it and explore it. We have some wonderful courses on there. Four busy mamas who just need bite size information.

Like maybe you just need, you know, to take it one little part at a time. A five minute video here, a seven minute video here, a two minute video here to start to build out. A new skill that you can serve your family better with. Um, maybe it's you want a crash course in gut health, and we have our fantastic functional pediatrician on there who pour so much into her patients here in our practice in Charlotte, but not many women and families have access to her or to someone like her.

Because of so many different reasons. So we're trying to bring that education to moms who might not have a functional pediatrician or might who can't afford to, to pay a cash-based practitioner right now who's really going to be coming at medicine from both sides of the equation. The lifestyle piece, the holistic side of everything, and then also, of course, modern medicine.

So, um, so I think, you know, that is a huge part of it. We've got a plant-based dietician, Ashley Kitchens, who's fantastic, who's doing, uh, plant-based myth busting to help kind of bust through some of those trends that, that always come up. You know, is my child gonna get enough protein? What about soy? What about, um, dairy?

What's the deal with, you know, I mean, we go on and on and on. It's so fun, um, to go back and forth with her. . And then once you're in the app, we have, of course, so much content for our, um, our members who want to be members of the raised on plants, uh, family. And it's a community of moms who are dedicated to their family and just to learning and growing every day.

it does not mean you have to be perfect, but it's just moving in the direction of getting, getting more plants into your kids. Maybe you are a hundred percent plant-based already and you're looking for that community of moms who just get it. Or maybe you're just literally, my child will only eat white foods that didn't touch each other, and I'm trying to get 'em to eat more broccoli.

And if that's you, you're gonna be. So loved on, um, in our community of moms who are like, I have been there and now I'm out of it, and I wanna help you get out of it too. And so everyone is welcome, come as you are parents, grandparents, um, if you're not a mom yet, if you never want to be a mom, but you're supporting, um, you know, Children in your life.

Maybe you're the coolest aunt in the world, you know, get your butt on over to this app and let's love on you too. Let's have you be a part of this incredible community. So that is what we've been up to, Paige, and we're so excited about it.

Hey there, quick reminder that now there are four ways to get my book.

If you head over to Amazon, you can search up. I've got you a girlfriend. Why? Getting organized and living this mom life is not a solo mission. You can now get it on the Kendall app, paperback hard cover, and the audio book is finally here. So if you've been enjoying this podcast episode, I have a feeling you might love the audio.

Thanks so much for making it a bestseller. And now back to the show.

That sounds amazing and I kept, it kept coming up for me that you were saying if you only have five minutes here or two minutes here, you know. In between changing diapers or you know, when you are trying to do that little thing for yourself, if you've decided, oh, I keep hearing how people say when you wake up in the morning, you really shouldn't be on your phone, but that's maybe how you wake up.

Stop feeling guilty about that. And pull up Jenna and Jake's app and check it out because it is going to fuel you for the day. You're going to feel armed with information. I, I can vouch for her. You guys, you can totally trust the stuff that they're putting out there. They've tested it on themselves, their own families.

As you said, your mom has been around in Right. The nursing field. Right. Um, and in this business for 40 years, although she looks like she's 20. And her mom, she's an too, she's an,

um, an exercise physiologist. So she, her background is in fitness, um, and of course wellness in general. She ran the wellness center at E N C Chapel Hill for years, and she has a, a free course on there.

And one of my favorite, um, one of my favorite courses that we put together actually is called the Mom Life Edit. And it's really, Like a month, 30, 30 days of little baby step changes. Um, and it reminds me a lot of what you and I talk about a lot, Paige, which is kind of looking at, you know, three different areas, three different simple.

You know, things to focus on. You're all, you're all about the threes like I am too. But we focus on, um, small, little, tiny edits in your, um, in your kitchen. So there's about 10 of those. There are 10 of those cuz there's 30 total, there's 10 little simple edits to your lifestyle. So things like other lifestyle, healthy lifestyle, things that might come up, movement, hydration, um, mental health, all of that.

And then the last category is your, and that's a big one for me cuz I feel like if your heart's not in the right place that feels good for you, then nothing else matters at the end of the day. So there's um, some simple things that I like to do to kind of get myself in the right heart space, um, every single day that will hopefully help you.

So that might be a good place to start if you are looking for a simple program to kind of kickstart your new year and just, um, make those simple changes as

you. . I couldn't love this more. I mean, I'm thinking about the fact that I'm organizing people's kitchens all the time and for you guys to have an area of that.

And I also really love the lifestyle choices cuz I talk about how organization living and organized life is just being intentional and making sure you're sort of organizing on autopilot. Once you do put those things in place, like if you are organizing your kitchen and you are really putting things in your kitchen that are going to.

Increase your healthy choices and the lifestyle of your family is fantastic, and I absolutely love the heart component. I have a chapter in my book called Desires of Your Heart, and at the whole ending section of the book, I talk about how really your heart is the driving force to keep your entire body working.

And we've all heard the kitchen is the heart of the home. It absolutely is. I mean, start there not just on the home front, but also in your community. A great way. I love the way that Jenna always does. This is something you guys have to look into as well. I love the way Jenna will have people over and they'll do like, make your own salads.

Um, you do tell 'em about the, like the mason jars. This is one of the things that I love so much. Cause again, it's like picking one thing that you can do to move the ball forward. One little baby step, maybe go over with your girlfriend and say, let's do. Prep our food for the week kind of night, or let's do a make your own salad bar or something like that.

Get together and share these stories because one of the things that I love is the 1% rule. It's one of my most downloaded episodes because people need something that is so, so simple that will actually make a huge impact. Tell us about those awesome salad parties you've had. I love.

Yeah. Oh my gosh. Well, I think, you know, the, the main thing that we all need is community.

At the end of the day, like if you don't do anything else, you know, this year, find a really good community that you can lean into. And I'm talking community. There's nothing like a community of mom, friends, like we have each other's. Back and I don't know, you know where you'll meet those people? It might be at your child's preschool, it might be in your neighborhood.

It might be old friends of yours that are now moving into the season of mom life. Um, but there's a special place like I, I mean, I, whenever we do these parties, I have, I've had, um, so much fun just connecting with other moms in the community. And what we do is we'll have each mom bring an ingredient and then we'll all just stand around and talk.

And depending on the time of day, possibly drink some wine and put together salad and jars, um, with, uh, with each other where you start with the dressing in the bottom and then you put the other ingredients and then you put the lettuce on top. And then any kind of toppings you want. And so everyone leaves with like their lunch packed for the week, basically.

They don't have to get their kitchen dirty, everyone's hanging out. And that community piece is huge, which is, it's why we've incorporated a lot of that to the actual app itself. Um, we have a whole community section where, um, there's different. Communities you can be a part of, depending on the season of life you're in.

So if you're a new mom, there's a, a new mom community. If you are a seasoned mom of littles, , there's one for you. Um, if you are pregnant and in that season of wanting to talk about all things, pregnancy and birth, and nerding out over that, Uh, there's a community for you there. Um, and then within those communities there's channels.

So there's specific topics that you can get, um, get on and engage and ask questions or give advice or connect. And I love that. We're, we have, you know, moms from all over the world that are connecting in there and. Supporting each other and loving on each other, um, through this, this new platform that is basically a virtual way for us all to kind of hang out more.

Um, and we are going live into the app a lot and actually doing, um, some of these virtual, virtual salad and Aja parties or cooking classes together so you can participate in those actually, even if you're not my neighbor, and live down the street from me and it, it has, you know, it's something that's so, so near and dear to my heart.

I don't know if you felt this page. I know there's a lot of sadness in our world right now. A lot of things going on, and, and I think more than ever we're hearing of some of these just heart, literal, heartbreaking stories that moms are struggling through or dealing with, or, um, and I know personally in my life, they're, they're, they're everywhere, um, around us.

And of course, you know, praying so hard for these mamas. But every time I hear of something, like that. It could be through social media, it could be through a friend. I, I, I have real tears, like I, it, it literal, it literally hits me, even though I might not even know this mom. Mm-hmm. , I am sobbing because of just hearing her story or hearing what she's going through, whether it's infertility, whether it's loss of a child, whether it's, you know, I don't know, losing a loved one or going through something really hard, a really hard diagnosis, and it's taught me over the last few months.

There is a deep connection between moms and we need to lean into that more because my tears are your tears and my heart is your heart. And, and when we are standing together and protecting our families together and supporting each other, no matter what decisions we're making, that's how we're all gonna grow in this new year and way beyond.

I honestly don't know that I could think of a better way to end this episode than that, that we've got each other's backs. Lean into that community. If you don't have one, come join ours. We love you. We're here for you. We want you to be a part of our community. We want you with us as well, and we would love to find ways to serve you.

So thank you so much, Jenna. Uh, I hope you all really. Take note of the fact that you do not have to massively overachieve and feel like you're not getting the job done in 2023 and beyond. We just hope that you can focus on these little baby steps that will lead to the bigger vision that you have in mind for yourself and for your family.

And as Jenna and I both. Very much so that God is there. He has a plan. So trust in that, take a breath and know this is so not a solo mission. You are not alone. We've got your back. For sure. Um, so Jenna, I thank you so, so much for being on again. I feel like when I'm saying goodbye to you, it just makes me want you to come on and do another one after.

So, but here's the great news everyone. We've got Jenna's app now, so I'm so excited. I will put again the link to that in the show notes. And we will be checking that out very soon and go hear her Beautiful voice. If you haven't gotten the audiobook yet on Amazon, check it out. It's called I've Got You Girlfriend.

By getting organized and living this mom life is not a solo mission and it is truly, truly not a solo mission. You are not alone. We are in this with you. Whether it. Getting organized, whether it is getting your kids to bed at a decent hour, whether it is making it through a sleepless night or tough times at school, or making sure that we are nourishing our bodies with some really good stuff that God has given to us, but absolutely no that we are going to do it together.

So Jenna, thank you again so much. I hope that you'll come back another time.

Oh, thank you, Paige. You know, you can't get rid of me, so I am, I'm here to stay and I'm so honored to be a part of anything that you're doing. I mean, it's, it's been such a, such a cool thing, such a blessing, um, to stay connected.

So definitely stay in touch with us, you guys. We've gotta build that community and, um, it's, it's baby steps, but you gotta be holding your, your mom friend's, hands and arms along the way and picking each other up. So, um, so let's all do that in the new year, and thanks for having me on. Absolutely,

anytime.

All right. Thank you all so much. I hope you have an amazing next year ahead, and we will talk to you very soon. Have a good one. Bye-bye.
