Episode 13: Ten Steps To Turning Your Coaching Methodology into A Finished Book
[00:00:00] If you're a coach, you'd want to listen to this episode because I'm going to let you in on 10 steps to transform your coaching methodology into a powerful book.
[00:00:09] The one thing that coaches can do is they can turn how they teach into content that can create a powerful book and use that book as a tool to really make that profound impact you want to make.
[00:00:19] So if you're a coach and you want to write a book, listen in closely. Step one is to define your purpose and audience. Imagine yourself as a coach with your mission to empower clients, using your knowledge and expertise. Before you even start writing, take a moment to define what the essence of your book's going to be.
[00:00:40] Reflect on what motivates you to start writing a book? Is it to provide aspiring online business owners with strategies for success? Or maybe it's to help new graduates in the corporate world. Let your purpose be the driving force, because that is what's really going to create that idea and make it as powerful as can be.
[00:00:58] Then you want to consider your audience who are the people that you work with? What obstacles do they face? How can your coaching approach offer valuable solutions? For the example of an online business coach, your audience. Might want to build their online presence and establish services within their business. How can you help them? By clarifying your mission and really understanding who you're writing to not necessarily who you're writing for, but who you're writing to. You'll really establish a solid foundation for a book that really speaks directly to the needs of your audience and their aspirations too, because you want to solve their problem.
[00:01:38] So now that your purpose and audience are clear, we move into step two. And this is where you map out your blueprint field book. Imagine this as a transformative journey. The outline is really your roadmap and it guides your readers from aspiration to achievement.
[00:01:53] It takes them on that journey. So let's say as a career coach, your book might look at the essential milestones in the professional landscape from resumes to mastering the art of networking, and then really ACEing job interviews. Break down your coaching methodology into distinct chapters or sections. Every coach teaches in a different way through their personality and through their processes. We're all different.
[00:02:22] As for me with my coaching methodology, I coach people, how to write and publish their book from the idea until the book is in their hand. And how I use that transformational journey in published impact is. I let the reader know why they should write a book.
[00:02:36] And why they can write a book. I then move them through that journey. And through that process of developing that author mindset, uncovering the idea, that's really going to be powerful for
[00:02:45] them and for their audience. And then it takes them through that writing process.
[00:02:49] Then it takes them through that publishing process. And finally, the end of it, which is the launching process. So for me, published impact really ties into my coaching methodology. from the real mindset work we do at the very beginning. Until the published copy is in their hands.
[00:03:05] So you can use that your coaching methodology as a way to really outline your book, and that creates your own unique voice. So let's begin by brainstorming key themes and topics. And as you create your outline for your book. You want to arrange them in a logical sequence that leads your rate is onto that self discovery and that empowerment of what you're trying to teach them and the problem that they want solved. So the way you can do this is inside your chapters include real life anecdotes. You can include case studies and success stories from previous clients. Into your book. And that can really foster a deep engagement with the person who's reading.
[00:03:44] So by crafting a really solid structure, you really provide that roadmap for success for your radar. And your book is really a compass for them. because the most powerful books are the ones that established that journey from the beginning to the end. And it includes storytelling along with really practical examples that readers can take away and act upon.
[00:04:05] Once you've outlined your book, we then move into step three, which is to flesh out your content. So now you have your outline as your guide. It's really now time to breathe life into your book. This is where you want to draw upon your coaching experiences, clients, success, stories, and personal insights that really makes your manuscript what it's going to be. To any coach, you possess a certain set of skills and expertise that's waiting to be shared.
[00:04:31] And you deserve to share it. You want to offer practical tips, actionable strategies, and your advice to really empower your raters to navigate the solution to that problem. You also want to use clear language?
[00:04:45] What I mean by that is to not make things too complex. You want to make it as easy as possible for your reader to take action. Simplicity is really key when writing your book.
[00:04:56] And what I find works best to create that simplicity. Is to start telling stories of yourself throughout the book.
[00:05:04] When you start telling those stories.
[00:05:07] You want to make it as easy as possible for your reader to take action. And if you do this by sharing your authentic voice and experiences, combined with.
[00:05:15] practical strategies. You really can create a book that resonates deeply and really inspires your readers to take action and make a difference.
[00:05:23] Step four is to refine your writing style.
[00:05:27] So you've written your manuscript and you're now starting to Polish it. You want to pay meticulous attention to your style and tone. Your goal is to write a book that not only informs, but inspires and empowers your readers. So whether you're a career coach, a life coach leadership expert, your writing should really embody your unique voice and perspective.
[00:05:49] And this is why employing storytelling techniques is so important. Share your journey of where you have been at at what point in time and use metaphors anecdotes to really captivate your audience's imagination. To bring your words to life.
[00:06:06] So really sharing personal insights and success stories to humanize your message. And this will forge a deeper connection with your readers. You also want to have that balance with professionalism, authenticity, authority, and empathy. I know it's a lot, but infusing your writing with personality and passion is really the format to creating a book that leaves a lasting impression. On your audience and that's, what's going to inspire them to take action.
[00:06:34] Not only action to apply that what they've learned throughout the book, but also action in whether they're going to work with you or not.
[00:06:42] Then we move on to step five and step five is to really take advantage of your knowledge and provide action steps and practical exercises within your book. So now that you've shared your coaching methodology and used all your experiences to help make that difference in the reader's life, it's time to really equip your Raiders with the tools they need to succeed. So now you want to integrate practical exercises, maybe reflection, prompts, or actionable steps throughout your book.
[00:07:13] This will help facilitate the action that you want your reader to take.
[00:07:17] As a coach, your aim is to empower your readers to take ownership of their growth in what they're learning. And you're really that. Lincoln the chain to help them succeed. So you provide concrete tools and strategies that rate is, can apply in their own lives and encourage them to take that action. That you know, he's going to be beneficial to them.
[00:07:37] In my book published to impact I provide action steps almost at the end of every chapter. And they can be very basic action steps as well. You don't want to overwhelm your reader with too much information or too many tasks or action steps that are too difficult.
[00:07:53] So we'll for example, one of my action steps in chapter two is in one sentence, write down a way you will write a book. Now that's really basic, but. This is all in the mindset stage, and it's all really setting that foundation to writing their book.
[00:08:09] Then I have different action steps later on in the publishing stage.
[00:08:12] I have revisit your book, writing goals. Why are you writing this book? Research the competition on Amazon and look at different prices. Choose your paperback and ebook price. Now these are at different stages of that journey of. Writing and publishing a book, but I'm making the action steps as easy as possible for the reader to take action.
[00:08:33] There's no right or wrong when it comes to providing actionable guidance and support, because you're the one who knows your expertise and your experience, and you will know what will help the reader in the end. So the one thing I would always suggest is simple actions lead to bigger results.
[00:08:51] Communicate that throughout your book and always consider that transformation. You want to take your reader on.
[00:08:57] Step six and seven. They work together, but step six is to hire a professional editor. As your manuscripts take shape, really consider the expertise of a professional editor. It's one thing that I always believe is a non-negotiable and in my program ID to asset, I'm not a professional editor, but. You have a professional editor at your disposal? A skewed editor takes your manuscript to that next level. They provide that. honest feedback on your writing style, your structure. They create clarity.
[00:09:28] And really zoned in on your message and what it is you're trying to convey. So at professional editor makes your book shine. I really encourage you to seek one out.
[00:09:38] But also seek one out. who has experience in non-fiction books.
[00:09:42] And also don't hesitate to request samples of their previous work. I'm sure they're more than willing to give that up. You also want to collaborate closely and don't get discouraged by the red marks that come on, your manuscript when they return it.
[00:09:55] You know, the very first book I wrote, the six pillars of our wedding life. I got the added edits back in, it was just pages of red pages of red. And you've just got to learn to let that go because they're making it as great as it can be and what they're also doing. Is there giving you recommendations and changes to apply, then not necessarily giving you. Their responses and feedback. They're also providing you solutions. And this is to really help make your book shine and. Have that high elite quality professional book, ready to captivate and inspire your raters.
[00:10:30] Step seven. And this works in with step CS, because around about the same time, you want to look at getting your book cover, designed with your manuscript now, refined and polished.
[00:10:40] You want to look at the visual elements of your book. The cover is going to be the first impressions your readers will have of your work.
[00:10:48] Your book cover is a representation of your work. And if it covered us, look amateur readers, won't choose the books. So think about the covers you see on Amazon and you can easily spot the difference between a professional cover and a poorly designed cover. Now there are several elements.
[00:11:04] A covet is on, should include. The first one is to attract attention and it goes without saying, but a visually striking cover is the first step in grabbing a potential rate as attention. Your cover doesn't necessarily need to stand out. It just needs to fit in within a crowded marketplace because it's highly likely someone has written a book that's similar to yours in terms of the content they're delivering.
[00:11:28] And this is why hiring a cover designer with experience. In your genre is important. And again, I'm not a professional cover designer, but if you do invest in idea to asset, you have a professional book, cover designer at your disposal. Who has experience in these types of books?
[00:11:45] The second thing you covered should do is to con veil your genre and content. So your cover should really give potential readers an immediate sense of your books, genre and subject matter. And it helps them understand what to expect. So the main title of. My boot code published impact.
[00:12:03] He's called published to impact.
[00:12:05] And I'm conveying the genre in the word publish, and then I'm conveying the content in the word impact. So the book is about how to write and publish a book to make a personal and professional impact. That is the crux of all the content inside the book.
[00:12:22] The third element of a great cover design is to evoke emotion. So you want to elicit emotions that resonate with your target audience, and it really sets the tone for the reader experience.
[00:12:32] And then finally, if you have a branding image you want to convey. Convey it, your book cover should really suit the colors, styles and the tempo of your personality and brand colors.
[00:12:43] And again, the same as the editor during the process of cover designing. Don't be afraid to keep communicating your thoughts and expectations with your cover designer. Because you want to make sure before publishing you're a hundred percent happy with the visual element of your book.
[00:12:57] Once you've had your book edited and the cover has been designed. You're almost there. So step eight is you want to plan your book, launch and marketing strategy. Your book is on the cusp of being released but before you release it, it's really essential to plan your book, launch and marketing strategy. So begin by identifying your target audience.
[00:13:15] And I would imagine those are the people who you're writing your book for, and you already know who they are. Develop a comprehensive marketing plan that really encompasses. So like you could do pre-launch teases, social media campaigns, email outreach to really generate excitement and anticipation. Also it consider having a book launch event, whether that's online or whether that's at a bar. My first book launch, I had it at a bar, which I sold tickets and inside those tickets was a copy of my book. I had bookmarks pens
[00:13:45] and it really helped create that excitement and buzz when the book was released. So you consider an in-person book launch, and it's a really fun way to. I really look back and reflect on your hard work and you've now become a published author. You also want to leverage your existing networks and platforms to spread word about your book. So, you know, whether that's through conferences, podcasting, podcasting tours, networking events. When you orchestrate a strategic book, launch and marketing campaign, you will then maximize your book's visibility and impact.
[00:14:19] And it really sets your book up to really become successful. And to continue using that book as a tool inside your coaching business. Step nine is to then engage with your audience and get feedback on your books. Get reviews in ask your audience to write reviews on Amazon for your book. Once it's out.
[00:14:37] Start fostering, meaningful connections with your audience and asking for feedback on the book. You want to encourage your readers to share thoughts and experiences through social media emails? Like his book reviews again.
[00:14:50] And you can use that feedback inside your business, as testimonials, as the impact you can make and reach out to coaching clients, mentors, invite them to read your book and share their insights because
[00:15:03] the web doesn't stop. Once your book's published, you want to really embrace that. Constructive criticism as an opportunity for growth and refinement. And this will really help you cultivate a really great community of. People who are interested in love what you have to say, and you'll forge those long lasting connections and it will really help you amplify your impact as an author.
[00:15:26] And finally step 10 is to reflect, take a moment and look at how far you've come on that journey and the lessons you've learned along the way, celebrate your achievements and acknowledge the challenges you've overcome because as a growth orientated coach use this experience to inform and inspire.
[00:15:44] Your clients. It can also help bring you into new avenues for content creation and will help you in the. Resilience and evolving and expanding your reach not only as an author, but as a coach as well.
[00:15:56] So embrace the journey of continual growth and discovery. And allow your book to be a stepping stone towards a greater impact and fulfillment.
[00:16:05] And then you have it. It's 10 steps into how you go about transforming your coaching methodology into a captivating book that empowers and inspires your audience and who you serve. I really hope you found these steps helpful. As you start writing your book, remember writing a, book's not just about sharing your knowledge though. It's also about making a difference in the lives of others.
[00:16:26] So until next time, start writing, keep coaching and keep shining your light in the world.
