Speaker A

Welcome to Love Notes from Rhonda.

Speaker A

And today I want to talk about your attention.

Speaker A

Yes, your attention.

Speaker A

What grabs your attention?

Speaker A

What are you interested in?

Speaker A

And what distracts you?

Speaker A

So what grabs your attention when we are distracted?

Speaker A

When things grab our attention through distraction, that's when we normally feel a waning of energy, or we may even get frustrated with ourselves, or we get on a subject sidetrack that takes us off our train, right?

Speaker A

We get off the wrong track.

Speaker A

Now, distractions in and of themselves, really, in the holistic view of the world and your life, are not necessarily a bad thing.

Speaker A

They may be just the distraction you need in order to give your mind a place to rest.

Speaker A

Yet I want you to be highly aware that you are having a distraction and that it is a conscious choice.

Speaker A

The other place that grabs your attention are things you're interested in, things that matter to you, things that are important.

Speaker A

See, I want you to be awake to what grabs your attention throughout the day and what is grabbing your attention?

Speaker A

And is it of value?

Speaker A

Or is it that mindless distraction that's giving your mind a rest?

Speaker A

Or is it that distraction that's helping you avoid something that you know you need to do?

Speaker A

Where is your attention?

Speaker A

That is your opportunity today, asking yourself throughout the day, where is my attention right now?

Speaker A

Your attention could be on your breath.

Speaker A

Your attention could be on what you're reading.

Speaker A

Your attention could be on a project.

Speaker A

Your attention could be on your heart.

Speaker A

Your attention could be on something you're eating.

Speaker A

How many times we mindlessly eat.

Speaker A

Hello.

Speaker A

Raising my hand, too.

Speaker A

So my attention isn't on my food, right?

Speaker A

My attention, I'm thinking of something or I'm contemplating something, but I'm not really paying attention to my food even though I'm eating.

Speaker A

So my attention, I'm not fully present.

Speaker A

So today let's just focus on being attentive to our attention and what is grabbing it and is it something there we want to use our attention for?

Speaker A

Because as we've said many times here in Love Notes from Rhonda is we only have so much energy in the day.

Speaker A

So what is grabbing your attention?

Speaker A

And do you want to use your energy that way?

Speaker A

Now, again, I want to preface this by saying sometimes those distractions are needed in order to rest your brain.

Speaker A

I know when I'm working on a big project and I'm really doing intense work that then I have to watch a movie in order to detach my brain from my project and be immersed in something else so that I am not the one kind of activating it, it is being acted on, right?

Speaker A

So I'm not saying that stopping and watching a movie isn't the right choice.

Speaker A

Yet I want us to be awake to it.

Speaker A

Are you aware of how to refuel yourself?

Speaker A

Are you aware of what feeds you?

Speaker A

And are those things getting your attention?

Speaker A

So today, what grabs your attention and how is it supporting you?

Speaker A

And remember, always as you're looking at these things, be gentle with yourself, Be kind and be gentle.

Speaker A

When you increase your awareness, on one level, this is good because you must be aware in order to change your life, right?

Speaker A

You must be aware in order to shift.

Speaker A

You must be aware in order to take your attention back.

Speaker A

But also in that awareness, you start recognizing all the places that you're distracted and all the places that you're thinking, you know, things that you're thinking about that you don't wanna be thinking about, or all the things that are hurting your heart that you're like, oh my gosh, I gotta get through this, right?

Speaker A

So that awareness, when you first start expanding that awareness of being awake to where your attention is, is a double edged sword, right?

Speaker A

On one hand it's like, yay, I now know what's going on.

Speaker A

This is great news.

Speaker A

On the other hand, it's like, oh my God, now I know what's going on.

Speaker A

Oh, crap.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

We want to know all of it.

Speaker A

Know where our attention is so that we can start paying attention to our body, our heart, our mind, our spirit, so that we can see it well.

Speaker A

Wow.

Speaker A

Watching a movie after working on a big project does refuel me.

Speaker A

It does kind of center myself back in.

Speaker A

It balances me out.

Speaker A

Or is watching a movie every day just a big distraction?

Speaker A

And it helps you feel alive and connected to people because you don't have any real friends in your life, right?

Speaker A

Like all these things, all these things may be true.

Speaker A

So be attentive today to what gets your attention.

Speaker A

Until next time, be fearless.

Speaker A

I love you, Sa.
