Welcome to Love Notes from Rhonda.
Speaker AAnd today I want to talk about your attention.
Speaker AYes, your attention.
Speaker AWhat grabs your attention?
Speaker AWhat are you interested in?
Speaker AAnd what distracts you?
Speaker ASo what grabs your attention when we are distracted?
Speaker AWhen things grab our attention through distraction, that's when we normally feel a waning of energy, or we may even get frustrated with ourselves, or we get on a subject sidetrack that takes us off our train, right?
Speaker AWe get off the wrong track.
Speaker ANow, distractions in and of themselves, really, in the holistic view of the world and your life, are not necessarily a bad thing.
Speaker AThey may be just the distraction you need in order to give your mind a place to rest.
Speaker AYet I want you to be highly aware that you are having a distraction and that it is a conscious choice.
Speaker AThe other place that grabs your attention are things you're interested in, things that matter to you, things that are important.
Speaker ASee, I want you to be awake to what grabs your attention throughout the day and what is grabbing your attention?
Speaker AAnd is it of value?
Speaker AOr is it that mindless distraction that's giving your mind a rest?
Speaker AOr is it that distraction that's helping you avoid something that you know you need to do?
Speaker AWhere is your attention?
Speaker AThat is your opportunity today, asking yourself throughout the day, where is my attention right now?
Speaker AYour attention could be on your breath.
Speaker AYour attention could be on what you're reading.
Speaker AYour attention could be on a project.
Speaker AYour attention could be on your heart.
Speaker AYour attention could be on something you're eating.
Speaker AHow many times we mindlessly eat.
Speaker AHello.
Speaker ARaising my hand, too.
Speaker ASo my attention isn't on my food, right?
Speaker AMy attention, I'm thinking of something or I'm contemplating something, but I'm not really paying attention to my food even though I'm eating.
Speaker ASo my attention, I'm not fully present.
Speaker ASo today let's just focus on being attentive to our attention and what is grabbing it and is it something there we want to use our attention for?
Speaker ABecause as we've said many times here in Love Notes from Rhonda is we only have so much energy in the day.
Speaker ASo what is grabbing your attention?
Speaker AAnd do you want to use your energy that way?
Speaker ANow, again, I want to preface this by saying sometimes those distractions are needed in order to rest your brain.
Speaker AI know when I'm working on a big project and I'm really doing intense work that then I have to watch a movie in order to detach my brain from my project and be immersed in something else so that I am not the one kind of activating it, it is being acted on, right?
Speaker ASo I'm not saying that stopping and watching a movie isn't the right choice.
Speaker AYet I want us to be awake to it.
Speaker AAre you aware of how to refuel yourself?
Speaker AAre you aware of what feeds you?
Speaker AAnd are those things getting your attention?
Speaker ASo today, what grabs your attention and how is it supporting you?
Speaker AAnd remember, always as you're looking at these things, be gentle with yourself, Be kind and be gentle.
Speaker AWhen you increase your awareness, on one level, this is good because you must be aware in order to change your life, right?
Speaker AYou must be aware in order to shift.
Speaker AYou must be aware in order to take your attention back.
Speaker ABut also in that awareness, you start recognizing all the places that you're distracted and all the places that you're thinking, you know, things that you're thinking about that you don't wanna be thinking about, or all the things that are hurting your heart that you're like, oh my gosh, I gotta get through this, right?
Speaker ASo that awareness, when you first start expanding that awareness of being awake to where your attention is, is a double edged sword, right?
Speaker AOn one hand it's like, yay, I now know what's going on.
Speaker AThis is great news.
Speaker AOn the other hand, it's like, oh my God, now I know what's going on.
Speaker AOh, crap.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker AWe want to know all of it.
Speaker AKnow where our attention is so that we can start paying attention to our body, our heart, our mind, our spirit, so that we can see it well.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AWatching a movie after working on a big project does refuel me.
Speaker AIt does kind of center myself back in.
Speaker AIt balances me out.
Speaker AOr is watching a movie every day just a big distraction?
Speaker AAnd it helps you feel alive and connected to people because you don't have any real friends in your life, right?
Speaker ALike all these things, all these things may be true.
Speaker ASo be attentive today to what gets your attention.
Speaker AUntil next time, be fearless.
Speaker AI love you, Sa.
