Hey everybody, welcome back to another edition of the daily bible podcast. What's up? Yo, hey valentine's day is coming up It sure is just flash news flash warning for our men folk out there What are you hoping to get for valentine's day? Yeah. A knife pair of socks. Sure. New shirt. Yeah. Watch. We've never been big Valentine's day. People guys don't like love. Yeah, exactly. No, I don't want to be the obnoxious. I've been the guy in the past. It's like, I don't need a Hallmark holiday to tell my wife I love her. And we don't, but, but there's nothing wrong with this one. No. If you need an excuse to go out and take your wife out for a date, then by all means go for it. It's a good thing to do. I think we always just. We're not big on on crowds. I'm not big on crowds. I'm not big on like long waits at restaurants and stuff. So We fell into a habit of saying, okay, when is Valentine's Day? Let's go out and celebrate a couple of days before a couple days after. Oh, yeah. We're all about that, right? Because it's like, okay, we'll do our Valentine's Day dinner a few days after when nobody else is out. Nothing special or significant about the day itself. Right? Right. So are you going to take Kristen because everybody wants to know to text your house? You know, I do like it now. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not mad at that, but that's not going to be our favorite spot. We really like Randy's. Randy's is good. We really enjoyed that. And, and particularly the jalapeno poppers. I've not had that yet. You got to try. And there's one of the cheapest items on the menu is eight bucks or something like that, but they're delicious. They're fresh jalapenos. And so they have a kick that you never experienced unless it's fresh. It was great. So we, I'd like to go there again, if it's a possibility. Fair enough. Fair enough. Yeah. I mean, and I've been going to blue goose. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's right at Eldorado in between Maine and Eldorado. Is that like a, is it a bar? It totally is. Yes. Yes. We've been going there and all of our Presbyterian brothers and sisters were raising a glass. Do a Bible study. No, it's a Mexican food restaurant, but it's blue goose and cookie society is right next door. So it's like dinner. Oh yeah. I'm going to grab a cookie. Yeah. They're good cookies, man. They are good cookies. They are indeed. Yeah. Yeah. So Valentine's day is coming up. Just be aware of that, man. If you need to order something, order something. If you need to make dinner plans, make dinner plans. Yeah. And it's. Good to go out of your way to do something to show your wife, that you love her and vice versa, to show your husband that you love him. It's just a good practice. Even if it's, even if it happens to be associated with the day that the federal government says, Hey, we're going to make this day a day of love. Okay. Whatever. We don't need it, but it's a helpful reminder that it's good to express love and to showcase what a good mayor should look like with or without the day. That's fascinating. You've now got me wondering what Trump's going to do about Valentine's day. And you said the federal government has to, what is he going to, what edict, what executive order, what exile is he going to do? Yeah, we'll see. Oh man, anyways, let's jump into our Bible reading for today. Exodus 36, 37, 38. I feel like I've read this before. Yeah, I feel like we were just talking about this. Yeah. Chapter 36, notice Bezalel and Oholiab, they're here now and they're going to get to work. And so, do you think people did that with him all the time? Of course, even back in his day. Yeah, what tune is that? I don't even know what's the holy night. Anyways, the people respond again in just overwhelming generosity, giving you the point that Moses has to say enough, no more. Yes, Lord, do it please. And thank you Lord, calling it down. So they've, they've got plenty and Moses says that's enough. We've got enough for the task at hand. And that's just, I mean, one thing that I've thought a lot about in church planting and being a lead pastor, and we've had conversations just about this too, is. Casting vision and Moses must've been a great leader in doing this. Because remember the people said to Moses, we don't want to hear directly from God. We want. To hear from you let god speak to you And then we'll hear from you What god says to you? And so moses is able to cast such a vision in a picture for the worship of god in the way God wants to be worshipped that the people are willing to give sacrificially and generously probably a lot of what they They plumb plundered from egypt on the way out, right? Sure, as far as the gold and everything else like that, but but moses is just he's doing it, right He's telling him this is what the vision is. This is what we need to do because God is worthy of this. And the people respond. They're like, here, here it is to the point that Moses has to say, okay, that's good. We're good. We've got enough. And probably what's also on added to that, in addition to what he's preaching and communicating, which is funny, isn't it? Because he was saying, look, I'm not good with words, Lord. And yet God uses him for that very purpose. But on top of that, it was also Moses life that displayed the reality of what they believed. Such that in chapter 34, when he comes down from Mount Sinai. His face is shining to go back to the conversation about God's glory and how he's now reflecting that. So they saw in him not only the truth testified from his lips, but also the truth testified from his life. There was evidence of his relationship with God that he was communicating with the God of heaven, the God of earth. And so they saw the reality of that. They saw the authenticity and they responded accordingly. I think that's instructive for pastors today. A hundred percent. Yeah. Yeah. It reminds me of the, the DC talk song. What if I stumble? What if I fall? That came out back in the nineties. I don't know that one. There was a clip at the very beginning. It was a quote from somebody. I can't remember who the original author is, but the quote was this, the greatest single cause of atheism in this world is Christians who acknowledge God with their lips, but denying by their lifestyle which is not leadership per se, but just all of us. And that's kind of what our charge to the men was this past weekend. Like all of you have something to lose if you compromise on your integrity on if you don't live above reproach. So, okay, since you seem to know all the things CCM why did Michael Tate step down from the newsboys? I did see that. Speaking of DC talk. Yeah. I don't know it, but it seemed to have shocked the newsboys because they've released a couple of statements trying to like, they're trying to wrap our minds around this. There's rumblings, there's rumblings about some sin. That's, you know, being threatened to be revealed or it's going to be revealed. And he's trying to get ahead of it and try to keep the band out of it. Which today it's a sad, it's sad to say, well, okay, here we go again. Maybe anyway, if you don't know about that, no, no need to look it up. That's like when you're like, Hey I've got, I was going to tell you a secret, but nevermind, I'm not going to throw you. Wait, what? Don't look at my Instagram. If you don't want to know. Everybody's asking me about this and don't go here. If you don't want to know where I get this. Hey, I just got a note from my wife. My, my son is pitching right now. Oh, cool. Go Josh. Go Josh hit a home run. No, that's the opposite. You know, we don't want home runs right now. That'd be bad. I would bet anyways. All right. Exodus 37. So 36, they're bringing everything for the tabernacle. And again, just that they're bought in, they're all in and it matches chapter 26, right? It's 26 and 36. So hopefully it's easy to remember. That's good. That's good. Is it 27 and 37? No. Okay. Well so 37 Bezalel is on the scene here and he's going to make the arc the table, the lamp stand. And all of this is again, in accordance with the instructions God had provided to Moses. So when we get to Hebrews in like eight months. Nine months, something around there. They're going to talk about the writer of Hebrews is going to talk about the, the, as Moses, according to the pattern Moses received on the mountain. And that's kind of what we're talking about here in there. He's talking about the better tabernacle, the better sanctuary, but here we're seeing the literal one where Moses was shown, this is how it should be. This is what it should look like. And that's something that I've always wondered, okay, is this God saying Visually to Moses this what it is or just simply verbally telling Moses. This is what it is I mean was there a picture of this that Moses had to be able to come back and try to Recreate that verbally himself or was this just all it's like how do you prefer to put IKEA furniture together? Do you like the verbal written instructions or do you like the pictures? I'm a pictures guy pictures are helpful. Oh pictures for sure Yeah Yeah, that's a good question. I've never thought about it that way, but I've always assumed It was God just speaking to him telling him this this and this right and then the artistic freedom was given to Bezalel and Aholiab But it says in Hebrews according to the pattern that was shown to him on the mountain and does shown necessarily mean Visually could not be shown verbally. You know what I'm saying? Yep. Yeah Yep. Yep. Well, chapter 37. Yeah. Bezalel is going to be doing all these things. He's building the ark. He's building the table. He's building the lamp stand, which talk about a trembling task, a fear inducing task, building the ark where the glory of God is going to show up on the mercy seat between the cherubim. There, that, that must've been an honor. Yeah. Versus the lamp stand. That's still important, but it's like, Hey, this thing's going to give light. This thing's going to be where the glory of God shows up. Yeah. Yeah. But the spirit was empowering him for that work. So I wonder if there was, maybe there was trembling and that probably would be appropriate, but one wonders if there's also a sense of, yes, this is exciting. Maybe something like it is to preach. Preaching is a trembling activity, but I get excited when I'm, when I'm ready, I'm prepared. I know my text, I'm ready to go into it. There's a great level of excitement, even as there's also a great level of humble trembling that I'm not fit for the task in an ultimate sense. Yeah. Maybe something like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, chapter 37, by the way, corresponds to chapter 25 20 37 25 36 26 37 25. Yeah, you may not want to memorize this But yes chapter 37 corresponds a chapter 25 in Exodus 8 6 7 5 3 0 9 8 6 7 8 6 7 5 is that it that doesn't feel right? I think so 8 6 7 Yes, I think so Jenny? Okay. Well, I don't know. It feels wrong for some reason. I think it's 8 6 7 5 3 0 9. All right. You keep talking. We're going to get an email about that for sure. Let me look it up. Bruno and Nani. They're going to know they're going to let us know. All right. Exodus 38. Then we get the construction of the tabernacle being completed at this point and it's completed with the making of the altar. For the burnt offering, the bronze basin and the courtyard itself. And the, the tabernacle was designed to be mobile. One thing that I noticed here is it does not mean that it was going to be light. I was looking at some of the measurements here and in the, the construction here, the silver alone was estimated to have weighed somewhere between. Two and a half to three tons just of silver and then bronze, another two and a half to three tons. I suddenly feel better about our chairs. Yeah. Right. Our stage pieces. Not that bad, right? Cause they had to break these things down and Karen beat, but it was all the basins, like the silver basins for all the poles and everything else that was heavy. And we see shekels and we're like, Oh, shekels, whatever. But that's how much, I mean, this is a multi ton edifice that they're having to break down and, and carry with them. A lot of people for that. My back already hurts and we're not even using half of this. It does. What did you find out? Everybody's dying to know it is 9. For some reason it just didn't sit right. I don't know. There's, you know, in my old age, some things just don't feel the same way they used to. Well, you know, tomorrow 40, I guess tomorrow, according to this pocket. Yeah. Yeah. You're right. No. So, wow. Yep. So, yeah. Anything else beyond 38? Oh 38 we're already on 38. Yeah, I got through 38 You were looking at I was looking at phone numbers. That's right Okay, so one quick note here at the end of 38 notice the in verse 26. There's 600 3550 men It's identifying men 603550 men Which again tells us that we're looking at a conservative number of anywhere between two to three million people total 600, 3, 550 men. The numbers themselves leave us a little bit of a struggle here, as we talked about previously, when we jumped into this in the first place, those large numbers are problematic. When we start thinking about all that it would take to support these people where waste would go, water needs and supplies walking in constricted parts of the desert, how they would do that. Now we're not, we're not. Man, there's no problem whatsoever in the Christian mindset to say, could God not have done A, B, C, and D? Absolutely. Absolutely. There's no problem on God's part to say, I can handle that. The problem on our part is okay. What, what did he do? Did he do this miracle to supply them with food and water and shelter? Because he did do miracles. The sandals never wore out. They had mana for for their wilderness wanderings. He did those things again. The problem is not whether god could do it It's whether did god do that? What was the miracle? Was it taking three million people through the desert? Or is there a smaller number that he sustains them with because that would make more sense when they're the smallest Were you guys not the smallest and most insignificant trembled around them if they had three million people People would tremble at their size. So we have to do some exegesis here to figure out what's the real miracle and it's no injustice to god to say Oh, it's three million versus. Oh, no It's a much smaller number But god sustained them and kept them through the desert and protected them against all their potential threats and enemies In fact in your small groups this week in your community groups this week as part of our application from the sermon this past weekend, so In John 16, it says that the spirit of truth will lead you into all truth. So one of the things we're going to be talking about in our community groups is, is there truth outside of biblical truth? The answer is yes. So one of the, the areas that we have to get to is what do we do when, how do we triage Competing truth claims especially in the area of evangelism, but also within just the unity of the bride of Christ. There are things that we can choose to get really worked up over and, and divide fellowship over that aren't worth getting worked up over and dividing fellowship over. And if you've got somebody that's going to come in and say, for example, I don't think it was actually, 603, 000 men, because that would be 3 million people. And I think it was a smaller number than that. And they've got legitimate arguments for, for why that might be. You don't need to look at them and be like, Hey, you're a heretic and you've denied the inerrancy and authority of scripture. Get out of my face. And I, I think we can be quick to pull the trigger on that. I know I can, I I'm ardent defender of the inerrancy and authority of scripture, and I have strong convictions about those things, but I also. Think that that they're a bigger fish to fry and we need unity as a church as as much as we can again that that Famous statement that I butchered before and I'll put you again In since all things. Oh, yeah in essentials unity in non essential liberty and all things grace So I think we need a little bit more of that, but those will be entering conversations I trust in the community groups about how do we triage? Something that is worth Making a stink over or saying, we really need to stand on the battleground for this particular truth versus something that we can say, okay, you know, we can set that one aside for the sake of unity or an evangelism work. We can revisit that later, but let's deal with, with what really needs to be dealt with right now, which is. Jesus and the gospel and the fact that you need to be saved And we should also not confuse the kind of subversive spirit that says did god really say right that that that exists And we don't want that. We're not trying to do that What we are trying to say is we it's there are questions in the bible that it brings up itself that we have to say Okay, what's what's god trying to communicate here? It's not that god's unclear It's that we are sinful recipients and sometimes it's harder for us to wrap our minds around. What's god communicating? what's he conveying and it takes a little more effort than it just to You Then just a passing superficial reading. So that's what we're arguing for deep, thorough, understanding reading. And that takes time. That takes effort. And I'd even say it takes godliness. Yep. There's a kind of spirit that is more receptive to God's truth than a spirit of criticism. And we're not trying to develop that we're trying to be humble and receive God's word for what it says and not what we wanted to say or what our tradition says. Yep. Yeah. Amen. Well, let's pray and then we'll be done with this episode. God, give us a posture, a mentality, a humbleness, a humility like that to really just seek to know truly what your word says and not to draw conclusions based on tradition or based on anything else, but really truly to, to want to know what you want us to know from your word. And. in how to take it and apply it to our lives. So we're grateful for the, the, what we call the perspicuity of scripture, that it's, it's readable. It's understandable that we can read it in a language that makes sense to us. That's an act of grace and condescension from you that we are so thankful for. Help us to appreciate the gift that we have in your word as we continue to read it day after day. And we thank you for the reading that we had for this day. And we pray this in Jesus name, amen.
