Speaker:

It was October 2017, I was

Speaker:

looking down the barrel of a

Speaker:

new job that I didn't want.

Speaker:

I was about to turn 40.

Speaker:

I had a small child who was about

Speaker:

to start school hours, and I had

Speaker:

that sinking feeling in my stomach.

Speaker:

How would we handle school hours?

Speaker:

My hubby's a school teacher,

Speaker:

so he works school hours.

Speaker:

How would we handle a call

Speaker:

from the school with a pickup

Speaker:

request for a sick child?

Speaker:

It was at that point, I

Speaker:

knew I needed to jump ship.

Speaker:

I needed to create my own reality.

Speaker:

I already had a side hustle as a

Speaker:

faculty member of Women in Leadership

Speaker:

Australia and I was already coaching

Speaker:

many women, but I wanted more.

Speaker:

I wanted financial freedom.

Speaker:

I wanted to do something that

Speaker:

lit me up every single day.

Speaker:

I wanted to have fun, achieve results,

Speaker:

and take life a little less seriously.

Speaker:

and I wanted to wear jeans.

Speaker:

Every day!

Speaker:

After working with so many inspiring

Speaker:

women, this is what they tell me they

Speaker:

went into business for themselves for.

Speaker:

Flexibility.

Speaker:

To be their own boss, to work fewer

Speaker:

hours, to feel like they can have more

Speaker:

impact, and they want financial freedom.

Speaker:

So important.

Speaker:

In reality, they may have flexibility,

Speaker:

appear to be working more hours,

Speaker:

feeling more stressed, and more

Speaker:

frustrated because they are not

Speaker:

getting any closer to their goals.

Speaker:

I get it.

Speaker:

It's been a tough few years.

Speaker:

Businesses have struggled.

Speaker:

Some have closed.

Speaker:

What we thought would

Speaker:

make us happy, does not.

Speaker:

However, I truly believe there is a

Speaker:

way for women to have these things.

Speaker:

And feel fulfilled at work and at home.

Speaker:

Here's the kicker.

Speaker:

The Bureau of Statistics says that

Speaker:

unless your turnover is more than 200,000

Speaker:

per year your business will struggle.

Speaker:

I'd love you to take a minute

Speaker:

just to think about, do you know

Speaker:

where your actual revenue is?

Speaker:

A lot of women I speak to have not

Speaker:

looked at the numbers in a really

Speaker:

long time, because it can be scary.

Speaker:

I also know this number, to be true.

Speaker:

When revenue reaches this point, it means

Speaker:

it can free us up to hire some help, to

Speaker:

invest in marketing and focus on growth

Speaker:

or scale, depending on what you want.

Speaker:

And there are a variety of reasons

Speaker:

why businesses don't succeed

Speaker:

or why their owners shut shop.

Speaker:

Here are a few.

Speaker:

It's hard.

Speaker:

It's harder than they thought.

Speaker:

Revenue is inconsistent,

Speaker:

therefore cash flow is lumpy.

Speaker:

Which leads to feast or famine.

Speaker:

There's not enough

Speaker:

profit in the business.

Speaker:

Or they just don't love their business or

Speaker:

their products or their services anymore.

Speaker:

So what's the answer?

Speaker:

Well, it depends.

Speaker:

And I hate it when

Speaker:

someone says that to me.

Speaker:

But it depends on what's happening

Speaker:

for you in your own business.

Speaker:

There's always a choice to be made about

Speaker:

whether you want to keep going, running

Speaker:

your own business, or whether you want

Speaker:

to go back to an employee type role.

Speaker:

Here are a couple of

Speaker:

things that helped me.

Speaker:

showing up.

Speaker:

When you run a business, you need to

Speaker:

continue to make the choice every day

Speaker:

to show up, even when things are hard.

Speaker:

Is that you?

Speaker:

Are you showing up?

Speaker:

We need to constantly work

Speaker:

on our mindset, whatever

Speaker:

that looks like for you.

Speaker:

It could be meditation.

Speaker:

It could be journaling.

Speaker:

It could be listening to podcasts or

Speaker:

reading books because every business

Speaker:

is different but it's important for

Speaker:

you to be clear on what you need to

Speaker:

achieve, what success looks like for

Speaker:

you, and how you want to show up.

Speaker:

As I said before, numbers, well,

Speaker:

they're not scary once you get to know

Speaker:

them and once you understand them.

Speaker:

Yes, you can outsmart them.

Speaker:

Source, but only after you

Speaker:

understand your numbers.

Speaker:

You need to fall in

Speaker:

love with those things.

Speaker:

You need to fall in love with your

Speaker:

numbers You need to know your revenue.

Speaker:

You need to know your profit.

Speaker:

You need to be clear on the variable and

Speaker:

fixed costs, and you need to understand

Speaker:

the trade-offs that you need to make.

Speaker:

I had to work really

Speaker:

hard to know my numbers.

Speaker:

need to not only have a plan, but

Speaker:

also a way to execute the plan.

Speaker:

A plan does nothing if

Speaker:

it's not implemented.

Speaker:

Knowing what you do each day

Speaker:

to inch closer to the business

Speaker:

of your dreams is so important.

Speaker:

Focusing on why you went into business

Speaker:

in the first place You might have it

Speaker:

stuck on a computer as a reminder.

Speaker:

I use post it notes.

Speaker:

I also love a vision board to

Speaker:

constantly remind me why I do what I do.

Speaker:

Do you feel like this?

Speaker:

Are you wanting more?

Speaker:

You want more flexibility?

Speaker:

More growth?

Speaker:

More revenue?

Speaker:

More profit?

Speaker:

You can have more.

Speaker:

You can grow in a way that works

Speaker:

for you and for those around you.

Speaker:

I know it can happen

Speaker:

because it happened to me.

Speaker:

So here's where I'm at.

Speaker:

I've been in business

Speaker:

now for seven years.

Speaker:

I've worked with hundreds of women across

Speaker:

the globe, amazing women who light me up

Speaker:

and who are getting really good results.

Speaker:

I get to do school drop

Speaker:

off every day And why?

Speaker:

So I really wanted to wear jeans.

Speaker:

They're not actually that comfortable.

Speaker:

So I ditched those and now

Speaker:

we're into active wear.

Speaker:

Which no one can tell because

Speaker:

I do a lot of my work on Zoom.

Speaker:

So very, very happy.

Speaker:

I encourage you to sit down with a

Speaker:

cup of tea, because we all love a

Speaker:

cup of tea, and think about what

Speaker:

you want by the end of the year.

Speaker:

And then how do you make positive

Speaker:

steps toward achieving these things?
