[00:00:46] worked around here because he's been gone so long. I certainly wouldn't say that I was welcomed back.

[00:00:50] I came back, we get a text, we're out working today, you know, doing our job as we do, and

[00:00:56] we get a text in the group chat just saying, "You know what? Let me just pull it up. Sh, don't steal

[00:01:02] my moment, Nathan." That's the worst. The worst. I got a text that just says, "I wasn't expecting

[00:01:11] a red carpet or anything, but a banner and some balloons and everyone lined up to welcome me back

[00:01:18] would have went a long way." Just saying, it would have. There's a little "hey, welcome back" or

[00:01:24] "surprise." And the funny thing is there's people down there that you don't even know who they are.

[00:01:27] I know, it was a whole different regime. I came, actually there was nobody here when I walked in.

[00:01:32] I said, "Hey guys," and crickets. Frankie probably snorted at you. Yeah, I was greeted by Kimmy, as

[00:01:38] always. But yeah, so give us a little tidbit. You don't got to give us everything, give us a little

[00:01:44] tidbit. Had a baby, and everything looked good. Everything, it's so much different. I've been

[00:01:49] telling everybody, everyone's like, "What's it like?" I mean, it's not like, "Oh my gosh, you're

[00:01:52] a dad, you're already a dad." How old is your, I have a two-year-old. Yeah, she's been two for six

[00:02:00] months. I have like a year. She's two next month. Yeah. It can't be two yet. No, this month. Yeah,

[00:02:06] this month. Yeah, into this month. But everything is good. It's just so much different than last

[00:02:11] time. Used to have another kid that's there, and there wasn't another kid there before. She hates

[00:02:18] me, the new one does. Only loves her mama. Yeah, well, right now it's just about like the tit,

[00:02:23] right? So really all she does is sit there, little turtle, you know, doesn't really do too much. The

[00:02:32] potato stage is like the easiest, and then like where your oldest is right now. Yeah, that's

[00:02:37] been the biggest thing right now, her affection levels are just entirely too high for a newborn,

[00:02:45] so we're trying to rein her in and whatnot. She loves her to death, but she has so many baby dolls

[00:02:50] that I don't think she distinguishes when you're done, you know, you can't just go, or whatever.

[00:02:59] You said there's been some biting. A little bit of biting. Well, she does that with everybody,

[00:03:02] though. But man, every time, like I was telling Katie, every second matters, man. Like, you got a

[00:03:07] show you're watching, or you got like a, you want to take a nap or anything like that? All the kids

[00:03:11] go down, it's like, okay, I've got like an hour here maybe to do something. If you want to scroll

[00:03:16] on Instagram a little bit, you want to go make yourself some lunch. And I have a bad habit of,

[00:03:21] I can't chill until everything's set, like I got a cup of coffee, got my water bottle, got my lunch,

[00:03:26] everything's good to go, and then somebody will wake up. So, just adjusting to that stuff,

[00:03:31] being chaotic instead of things being, it really is different. Like people always say,

[00:03:35] if you're going to have two, you might as well have three, like the biggest change is from

[00:03:38] one to two. And having multiple kids, and I love it, by the way, this is exactly what I wanted. I

[00:03:43] don't think saying it's hard is necessarily bad, like I knew it was going to be hard, it's what I

[00:03:48] wanted. But it is certainly, the first thing I thought was like, man, how am I going to work,

[00:03:55] how am I going to do all this? Because for like the first two weeks, it's certainly,

[00:04:00] I felt really bad. I was even on the phone with Nate, I was like, "Man, I can probably

[00:04:03] go ahead and just go back." I feel bad for not doing anything, but the days are all blurred,

[00:04:07] it's not a vacation by any means. There's way less sleep involved in those two weeks than when

[00:04:13] I'm working, which is saying something because I don't feel like you sleep ever. Yeah, but just

[00:04:20] adjusting to having two kids. It's so cool to be like, "Yeah, go get the kids," like the girls,

[00:04:24] you know, the girls. I love it, dude, I love being a girl dad. I remember distinctly, my best friend

[00:04:28] Rebecca has two little girls, and she's been on here a few times, and I remember distinctly it was

[00:04:35] like immediately the switch to how she referred to her kids. Even her youngest was two seconds old,

[00:04:42] and then it was like, "Well, we got to go get the girls," and I was like, that's so

[00:04:46] fun. It's so cute. It's great, I'm loving it. And my oldest just won Miss Baby County Fair pageant,

[00:04:57] second time. Hey, you sent me the video, it looks stacked. There was, I don't remember the number,

[00:05:05] but there was like eleven or twelve babies, and she had some competition. I think stuff like that,

[00:05:12] she'll do the next time. She's big on ballerina stuff right now, she loves to spin. Maddy's trying

[00:05:19] to put her in ballet right now, she loves to spin, so she did her spins. I'm trying to get her in

[00:05:23] karate, they had like a jiu-jitsu, they had girls up there. Why did he give you that look? Like that

[00:05:31] was a good idea, that was a good-idea look. Very similar to the bad-idea look. Very similar to the,

[00:05:39] can you believe she just said that? They had girls that would, and I'm just not a pageant person,

[00:05:45] but their accolades and whatnot, one girl was homeschooled, graduated at fifteen with a 4.0,

[00:05:51] she's a black belt in karate. I'm like, standard right there, buddy. I didn't even think about it,

[00:05:58] but I was like, dude, how cool is that? She could be like daughter of champion equestrian Matthew

[00:06:04] Turner. Exactly, I didn't even think about that. I was like, and I didn't walk her out this time,

[00:06:09] I walked her out in the first one and she didn't win, and ever since I haven't walked her out,

[00:06:12] she has won. So I may just be, ever since Maddy's cued a pageant, she is like queen,

[00:06:19] so I think that was a problem most of the time. But other than that, everything's been great.

[00:06:24] It's been unbelievably freaking hot, as it has been up here. You just keep her inside? Yeah,

[00:06:30] pretty much. And then Lily got RSV and an ear infection the same week, like the second week,

[00:06:36] so we were all, do you just have to keep her away from the baby at that point? Pretty much, it

[00:06:40] was kind of like, obviously the newborn is a lot more scary. Yeah, it'd be scary. My two-year-old,

[00:06:45] but it's really just been me and her, and I haven't let Maddy have the potato, I've been more

[00:06:53] active with my first one. With this one, I've been trying to just keep her away and protect her, so

[00:06:59] she doesn't know me yet, but she should just know that I'm protecting her from her older sister.

[00:07:04] I was going to bring some show and tell. I went and harvested my first corn, which is really a big

[00:07:10] deal because I've never had corn grow successfully, and I wanted to bring it. I may

[00:07:15] just bring it next time, but I had one ear that was perfectly pollinated and had all the kernels,

[00:07:21] and one ear that wasn't. So, huge win. I know it's so out of context, but I did it yesterday,

[00:07:28] and Maddy took my picture with it, and I held it up by the couch, had my ear of corn, and I was so

[00:07:32] proud, probably more proud of that than anything. We should do like a dinner, and you bring the

[00:07:38] corn. Well, see, I did that, I picked a bunch of green beans, I have green beans and stuff too,

[00:07:44] and I picked a bunch, and I was like, we were going to have dinner at Maddy's parents' house,

[00:07:47] and I was like, I'm just going to bring some green beans and whatnot. By the time I cut them down,

[00:07:50] there was enough for like one serving for one person. So, I fear that's probably going

[00:07:54] to be the corn situation, like, "All right, everybody, I'm going to bring corn, everybody

[00:07:57] has to fight for it." Yeah, one time. And in that scenario, when you're getting your picture taken,

[00:08:02] is that something that Maddy's like, "Oh my gosh, let me take your picture," super hype about it,

[00:08:07] or are you saying, "Hey, can you take my picture"? I mean, I asked for it, but she was hype about it,

[00:08:15] she's been super supportive about me in this garden. Yeah. So that's awesome, what a nice

[00:08:20] lady. I know, she's going through it, and you're just like, "Hey, I'm also going through it." Yeah,

[00:08:25] she's good too. She was a million weeks pregnant with the two-year-old and everything,

[00:08:31] and then you're like, "God, my corn." I know, Lily's crying in the corner,

[00:08:36] Colin's just screaming hungry and whatnot, and I'm like, "My corn, my corn, half a kernel."

[00:08:43] There were some things that you missed, apparently you missed quite a bit. The most recent thing that

[00:08:49] you missed involving the YouTube channel was Nate's first lesson. Yeah. I heard it,

[00:08:57] we already knew what he was getting into with Kennedy anyway, but I heard it certainly lived

[00:09:01] up to its reputation, it was difficult. I think he did a great job because she also wasn't being

[00:09:09] very good, like as suspected, there was some miscommunication, but there was also the fact

[00:09:15] that even if communicated well, she was like, no. So I think it's going to be one of those

[00:09:22] moments where you have that first lesson, and then at the show it's going to be like,

[00:09:26] you worked so hard that, I'm just glad it's still going on. I was worried that in my absence it was

[00:09:31] going to be pushed to the wayside. You thought you were the driving force? Yeah, he's the glue.

[00:09:38] I'm really glad it kept going on. How did you feel? Did you feel like, well, this is chalked,

[00:09:43] or do you feel like you've got a little bit of work to do? I felt like I got a lot of work to do.

[00:09:54] I feel like I did a lot of things right, and also nothing right, because nothing really happened.

[00:10:01] You did get her to jog super well, her body positioned really well, and you had her loping

[00:10:11] to the right super well, it was the left when we turned around, which is usually her easy way,

[00:10:18] and that's just where things, so I don't think you can say nothing happened. That's how I felt,

[00:10:25] though, you hit a roadblock. Yeah. After watching me on Ethel, it will certainly feel like nothing

[00:10:31] happened on your, okay, I imagine that to be true. And I'm going to go ahead and put out here, before

[00:10:38] this ever even gets officially, I guess it has started, but before competition day, I am fully

[00:10:42] aware of the advantage that I have riding it. I am aware of that. Gotcha. So here's the thing,

[00:10:53] I think you have the less fancy of the horses. You drew the more, out of Rikki, Ethel, and Kennedy,

[00:11:05] Rikki and Kennedy are like wildly more successful, they have been trained more, shown more, probably

[00:11:13] are more talented, but I think Ethel is a little more tried and true, and a little more honest and

[00:11:22] easy. So, how important is it that the horse is really fancy if they're not performing correctly?

[00:11:31] Sometimes, on the flip side of that, sometimes correct wins the game. You know, it doesn't matter

[00:11:38] how fast the car is if I can't reach the pedals. It's true. That being said, if, like Katie says,

[00:11:45] she just comes out of the gate on show day and takes care of business, that could put me out.

[00:11:51] Here's the thing, I've been telling Rachel this whole time, because I think Rachel has had this

[00:11:56] thought in her head that she's just going to win. She's like, "I've been showing my whole life,

[00:12:00] I'm just going to hop on Rikki," who is probably the most just-sit-there-and-push kind of horse.

[00:12:06] Rikki has her own things, don't, you know, you saw her cow-hop with me the other day,

[00:12:14] she has her own mind, but out of all three of them, as far as fancy movement and easy mode,

[00:12:21] she's the cross between the two, and then the most experienced rider drew her. So,

[00:12:26] I think Rachel's had it in her head that she's just going to wipe the floor with you, which

[00:12:30] there's potential for that. But here's the thing, it's not just who can do the western pleasure,

[00:12:36] it's western pleasure, horsemanship, costume, and then halter. And halter is based on how you show

[00:12:43] the horse, it's not based on the horse's actual conformation, it's how you show the horse. So,

[00:12:51] I think there's room in there for y'all to nudge her down. I think so too, I'm worried because I

[00:12:57] don't think she's going to put in the effort for the costume that y'all do. And I believe

[00:13:01] I have selected what I want to do, I'm just measuring, I'm not going to tell you. You're

[00:13:06] going to measure her? I'm having Stephanie give me Ethel's measurements. I'm talking to my trainer,

[00:13:13] I asked because she was in the middle of doing something and I didn't want to be like, "Hey,

[00:13:16] how do I do this?" So, I may just go down there and do it, but I almost feel like maybe I should,

[00:13:21] while y'all are doing your lesson, just be like, "Hey, can we measure her before we're done?" Yeah,

[00:13:25] be part of your lesson. But then I wouldn't get a chance to familiarize myself with my steed. I

[00:13:29] may just start going down there in the evenings and giving her a carrot, rubbing on her face and

[00:13:33] whatnot, speaking a little Elvish to her, you know, getting her to where she's comfortable

[00:13:38] with me. I am arguably the most, anyone can get on her, horse of the whole barn. Yeah,

[00:13:46] I know. But as you have pointed out, she is reliable, and she is, what was the word you used,

[00:13:54] forgiving? Not maybe. Yeah, forgiving is a good word. She's not the fanciest,

[00:14:01] but I think it's tried and true, I believe she's just been waiting for the right rider. Okay.

[00:14:07] I used to hate traveling with my electric toothbrush. It was bulky, the battery always

[00:15:42] but if I don't win, if I win everything else and I don't win that, the trophy means nothing. The way

[00:15:48] that we have it structured right now is that it's thirty percent western pleasure, thirty

[00:15:54] percent horsemanship, twenty percent something. I do remember having that conversation. Yeah,

[00:16:01] I think it's thirty, twenty, twenty. So thirty, thirty, and then for the halter and the costume

[00:16:07] it's twenty, twenty. Have we discussed dress? So, I'm going to be giving everyone a budget. You all

[00:16:19] have hats already, and then blow it all on the shirt, and I get my own, Rachel. I would like

[00:16:28] to try to find things to borrow, as far as chaps, the super expensive stuff, but as far as going and

[00:16:35] getting your scarf that you tie, your shirt, and if you need a belt and stuff, all that would do is

[00:16:45] just encourage me. I feel like all this is going to do is encourage me. I think this is for me, I

[00:16:53] think it should. So we'll try to do that, because you're going to really like the English stuff

[00:17:02] one of these days, so maybe next year it's all in English. Maybe this year it's all in English. No,

[00:17:09] we got to get through this and a Christmas. If we get through this and a Christmas special, it'll be

[00:17:13] a W year. Yeah, I think the Christmas special is getting nixed. No way, really? If it's replaced

[00:17:21] by a horse show though, I'm okay with that. How do we fit all that in? Got to put it on the schedule.

[00:17:29] Point. Maybe don't wait till December, we would have to do it the week that we come back from the

[00:17:35] World Show. Yeah, I know, I'm okay with replacing it. When is the World Show? Like mid-November. But

[00:17:42] here's the thing, I host Thanksgiving, so I need to keep my Thanksgiving stuff up. It'd be like,

[00:17:47] what if we do it before Thanksgiving? No, because then I'd have to decorate for Christmas,

[00:17:50] that's the thing. We just need to build a barn that we can host stuff like this in, only for the

[00:17:58] Christmas one, a studio. Yeah, a studio, so here's the thing, a replica, that will happen at some

[00:18:02] point, a replica kitchen, just make a second shop only with a lot more outlets. I would eventually

[00:18:15] like to have a studio of sorts and do product photos and stuff like that, all-in-one. But I'm

[00:18:21] going to circle back to this horse show for a moment, and I do feel, another fear of mine is,

[00:18:27] same thing with this lesson, you being there will be a problem, and I feel like it's the same as

[00:18:35] if your dad shows up or whatever, it's like I was doing my own thing a lot of the time during yours.

[00:18:39] I feel like I would like a lesson, which I totally love you being there, but I think like a lesson,

[00:18:46] if with no cameras, nothing like that, if me and Stephanie went in there, I was like, okay,

[00:18:51] I feel like, even with this show, you being there is going to add a level of nerves. What's it going

[00:18:57] to be when your wife's there? Not near as much. Can my grandparents come? She doesn't know, she

[00:19:03] won't know if I mess up or not. I think we could make it work. They want to come in from Arkansas

[00:19:07] for this. What do you mean, for real? A hundred percent, I was talking to my grandma on the phone,

[00:19:13] I was trying to tell her what we were doing that day, I was like, "Well, I had this lesson on the

[00:19:16] horse, we're kind of doing this, I think it's a family invite." She was like, "Is that something

[00:19:21] we can come to and watch?" I was like, I mean, I'm sure that would be okay. What? It's literally

[00:19:28] just at the house. Yes, and live-streamed. Should be live-streamed. She said, "Would I get to see a

[00:19:34] horse in person?" I'm like, "Okay, I think we could make it a family thing." Okay. And maybe

[00:19:41] we do a cookout after. I'll tell them they can come. Maybe we do a cookout after. It was just her

[00:19:45] birthday, she's at least mid-eighties, that'd be her last one. She's, Matthew. But I will say this,

[00:19:56] I mean, probably it's probably her first horse show. That's what I'm saying, statistically

[00:20:02] she's probably not going to her second horse show, that's all I'm saying. What other horse

[00:20:06] show? She's not going to go to Congress, that's all I'm saying. Well, unless they, regular show,

[00:21:23] Paula, Mimi, and Papa, Mimi is not an OG. No, it is not, Mimi and Ma are the OGs of grandma

[00:21:30] names. Not, and Papa. Nana's a good, Nana's OG. Nana was the best. Nana, Grandma, Granny,

[00:22:39] you can't just let Nate have his own video." I'm like, "This is the Katy Vans Light channel,

[00:22:44] it's my channel, I was just riding around." This is the Katie Van Slyke Show. I'm going to comment

[00:22:50] that on the next one about you. But it's not that I don't want you there, but there's a level of

[00:22:55] nerves that will be present because you're there. Yeah, just the same thing of having a, I didn't

[00:23:01] pipe in very much, I didn't experience that, I didn't pipe in very much while he was doing it,

[00:23:06] I tried to let Stephanie do it, and it did come to a point, because he was having some issues,

[00:23:11] where she was like, "What are his legs doing, are you seeing from that angle or whatever?"

[00:23:17] But other than that, I tried to, there were times where I was whispering into my thing to get it out

[00:23:21] of my system, and I was like, I think he needs to sit back, but I would want that commentary,

[00:23:27] I feel like I would want you to say that. It's not a, again, it's not a problem, it does get

[00:23:30] to a point where you're already frustrated, and if you have multiple people telling you things to do,

[00:23:35] and some of the things me and Stephanie were saying were contradicting each other, so that

[00:23:39] would be frustrating. It does get frustrating, but I certainly don't want to be doing the wrong thing

[00:23:44] and then, for the sake of not hurting my feelings, nobody's saying, she was like, "Put this foot in

[00:23:48] the middle," and I was like, "Take it off and use your outside leg." We were saying some different

[00:23:53] things, but if you're doing something wrong, old Binky is going to call you out quick. I'm a big

[00:23:58] fan. Stop calling her Binky. Big fan of that. We'll get her, it's nice though, right? Yeah,

[00:24:02] we'll run that by her, and then she's going to hate it. I don't think so, we'll say she'll never

[00:24:06] have to do another podcast. Is her last name Binky? It's a nickname. I was still all for,

[00:24:12] I think the best thing was the Beanie Babies thing, from her, if she ever did a little kid,

[00:25:25] English or not. Okay, all right, get ready again, Jason Smith. Jason Smith is showing Denver in the

[00:25:33] halter, and he's the same handler who showed him in the halter last year at the NSBA World

[00:25:38] and the Congress. Okay. And so he was reserve in the stallions at the NSBA World last year,

[00:25:42] and then he won the Congress. So we're hopeful there, Jason's showing him in the halter. Aaron

[00:26:17] western pleasure. Okay, potentially showing Hollywood in the trail, I say potentially

[00:26:23] because we haven't really shown that that much, so we just might not. So, the level one trail,

[00:26:30] showing Hollywood in the level one and the amateur western riding, and then Penelope and Jamie really

[00:26:39] are showing in the three- and four-year-old novice horse hunter under saddle. Jamie English. Yes.

[00:26:45] Penelope, though, ten classes. Did you see? No one watches my stuff, none of my friends, none of my

[00:26:51] peeps watch my stuff. I watch it. It is true. I'm about to, we'll have to pop this picture up here,

[00:26:57] because she looks like a woman. This is the first foal that y'all were a part of. Really? This is

[00:27:04] the first foal we're going to go watch that y'all were a part of her birth. You missed her birth,

[00:27:11] but only because she was super early, and there was no shop, there was no anything, that's what

[00:27:24] we were telling him. Before, things have changed since we brought Eli on, but even before that,

[00:27:33] whenever we started, there was nothing. We stayed at, we met at your house. So when they started in

[00:27:41] 2023, which was the beginning of 2023, we had four foals, but Patrick passed away, so it was

[00:27:48] just three, and it is insane how different it is these days comparatively. So for instance,

[00:27:57] crowded back then, okay, this date, three years ago, uh-huh, I didn't have any employees. Yeah,

[00:28:08] I had two people that worked in the barn, and then you two, that was it. And that's crazy,

[00:28:14] because there's six people sitting down there. I know, while we're up here, and that was even seven

[00:28:20] months after we started, there was still just us. Yeah, I didn't have an assistant until September,

[00:28:30] after I purchased VS Code Red, I got an assistant. So that would have been eight months after us was

[00:28:37] the next person coming on. We were getting phone calls whenever a horse was being born, yeah,

[00:28:43] we didn't have a single one on camera that year. No. So this is Penelope now, wow, that is a whole

[00:28:51] horse, whole horse, like a big girl. Wow, like, I'm going to send this to you right now. Send it.

[00:28:58] And so she's a three-year-old, and we're going to hopefully see her have some success. I'm not,

[00:29:05] I'm proud regardless of what they place, but the NSBA World is where Trudy won, Trudy won the

[00:29:12] two-year-old hunter under saddle, she's Trudy's baby, Trudy's first filly. So, RS Crazy, sorry,

[00:29:19] RS Crazy Cat Lady is her name, Penelope's, yeah, if it's Trudy's, Cat Tails Are Blazing,

[00:29:28] sire to, ruler. Y'all know, her sire is Allocate Your Assets. How did you get that then? What's

[00:29:49] Penelope's name? Crazy Cat Lady. Crazy Cat Lady, okay. Cat Tails Are Blazing is her mom,

[00:29:54] so, all right, never mind. Allocate Your Assets. So, fun fact, I love putting horse names like,

[00:30:03] okay, fun fact there, you're going to be like, I like that one better. There for a minute,

[00:30:07] I had her registered, and I changed it because I wanted Crazy Cat Lady, I was like, that's just so

[00:30:11] much more memorable. There for a minute, her name was RS Penny For Your Assets. That's great. Yes,

[00:30:18] that's great, Penny For Your Assets. I knew there was an assets, that was her name for a bit,

[00:30:23] and then we changed it to Crazy Cat Lady, Crazy Cat Lady is more memorable, a little more. And

[00:30:28] I like that all of Trudy's fillies have had "cat" in their name, yeah, as an ode to her. So anyway,

[00:30:34] lots of fun there, we're there for eleven or twelve days, I have lots planned. We show

[00:30:40] that many times, I think we only have three free days while we're there, but we have a really nice

[00:30:45] Airbnb with a pool. Nice. So maybe we'll do some Katching Up With Katie in the pool. I think we

[00:30:50] should film a Katching Up With Katie while we're there, and maybe even do a live while we're there.

[00:30:54] But I have some friends that I'm going to be like, "Hey, let's do a video where we swap horses," or,

[00:31:02] "I'm not going to buy anything at the sale," but we should go to the sale, it's yearlings. I don't

[00:31:07] want yearlings. Oh yeah, we can go though, we can go though. What if I just, I didn't know, I

[00:31:13] didn't know they would, and then I'll accidentally buy one. What if we all just join in and get one,

[00:31:19] like, this is our horse. I've always wanted to ride that high of going to an auction and feeling

[00:31:25] like there is certainly going to be more bidders if I raised my hand, and just going, you know,

[00:31:32] I might like the cow, I'm not, okay, okay, I'm not saying I will, because I have to talk to my

[00:31:38] father, but the cattle sale is September 26th. Okay, it's our best-performing video, what if

[00:31:46] we bought a cow, we bought a cow, yeah, what if we buy a cow together? I almost brought some embryos,

[00:31:50] the only thing that was in my budget, last one was some embryos, and I just about did it just for

[00:31:53] the sake of it. But I was like, yeah, but we're all going to split a cow. Split one to eat? No,

[00:31:58] no, no, no, no, we're going to buy a cow, but if the cow's like, and then it's like

[00:32:03] a thousand dollars, and it's like, this is Nate and Matt's calf being born. So we all split a cow,

[00:32:10] and it's just our, no, we're not eating it, it's just our cow, because y'all have a little

[00:32:19] bit more pristine Angus. Correct, that's what y'all like to rock with, y'all have breeders,

[00:32:26] we run a registered Simmental herd, Simmental herd. I knew there was a buzzword there somewhere,

[00:32:32] but it was Simmental, some of them are SimAngus. I like that, little SimAngus, Sim Angus. We used

[00:32:40] to run, I used to be a lot more knowledgeable about breeds, and they were horrible, crazy a

[00:32:47] little bit. But yeah, what if, because we only, we don't have very much in the sale this year

[00:32:52] because we're trying to build our herd, we're putting in like one cow and like five lots of,

[00:32:57] who gets to bid on it, though? Well, I don't know how to go. Yep, I mean, somebody would have to

[00:33:04] tell me. Do you have that in you, like where you want to go? Yeah, yeah, that's all I want to do,

[00:33:08] that's what I was saying, it's like I just want to go to a part auction and raise my hand and do it

[00:33:12] like that, and hope somebody's going and buying. Yeah, so what if you be the person right before

[00:33:16] you, what if I'm like, "Hey, Matt, get this one," like, I let you use my number for one of them,

[00:33:24] and I just tell you when to stop. I think I would still get a high off that, and I'm just like,

[00:33:28] but then I would let the power go to my head, and she, stop, I was like, "No, Katie, we got this." I

[00:33:35] have a feeling about this one. That's so good, can't wait. Yeah, what if we just, yeah, yep.

[00:33:47] But the most, farming is, them old guys are just like, they go, yeah, see, I love it when I'm at

[00:33:54] a sale, and they know that I've been bidding a lot, and so then they start looking at me,

[00:33:59] and I'm like, I love that, where I'm like, no, but there has to be the utmost, and auctioneers

[00:34:09] have my utmost respect, because you have to go to school for that most times, and it's such a

[00:34:14] talent to be able to be an auctioneer, and the energy, I love auctions because of the energy,

[00:34:20] if you have the guys called that look for people, so at the NSBA, spotters, yes, dude,

[00:34:27] like at the world they'll have lightsabers or whatever, and they'll go, yeah, like, makes you

[00:34:35] feel good about, you know, you really want to be like, "Oh, I want to do it again." Exactly,

[00:34:39] yeah, that's the whole reason I like going to the NSBA yearling sale, because they always have the

[00:34:43] company. I saw the dude that's always super loud on Yellowstone, when they had the finale

[00:34:51] episode where they were having the auction, he was in there yelling. That's amazing, awesome,

[00:34:55] that's the best part of auctions, dude. And I sat there and talked about Simmentals with him in the

[00:35:01] middle of it, and then he would just have to be like, I guess it's a really mid conversation,

[00:35:07] like, she's been in the hospital, but her diagnosis comes back, she's going to be, she's

[00:35:14] going to be a pilot. Yeah, I was sitting here, and I was like, "Yeah, we got this son of Sugar C4 and

[00:35:19] TJ Teardrop," and he's like, "Oh, no." And then he would just be like, I guess it is going to be like

[00:35:25] Yellowstone. And I've never seen it, but I did see that scene, where you just sit, and they're like,

[00:35:31] "Bring the horse out," and they'll do it or whatever. You've been there, Matt? I haven't

[00:35:34] been to the auctions. Yes, you have. Yeah, yeah, remember they have the tables at the auction.

[00:35:39] Nate started the same time I did. There's all sorts of little stories people like to throw in,

[00:35:45] and everybody agrees, we're just going to talk like it always has been. But you've been to the,

[00:35:49] I must have been in the bathroom somewhere or something. No, because remember, I sold one year.

[00:35:56] Yeah, no, Tyler went to that one. Yeah, yeah, oh, wow, okay, he didn't go, he was with Posty. Yeah,

[00:36:39] that's going to be really cool, I guess it is just like Yellowstone kind of, for real, I'm

[00:36:47] super excited. The next time we go to Texas, which we're going in September to go practice before the

[00:36:53] Congress, we're going to go, I'm so stoked. What is the show? We're going to NSBA World,

[00:37:01] National Snaffle Bit Association World Show, so it's paint horses, appaloosas, quarter horses,

[00:37:08] all the stock breeds all together. NSBA World, Congress, AQHA World, and honestly the AQHA World,

[00:37:19] we just refer to it as the World Show, the World Show. Yeah, but that one, I don't honestly know

[00:37:25] who's, I don't know if Kennedy is going, I'm qualified, I made sure I was qualified,

[00:37:30] I will be going to show Hollywood, and then Denver will be going to show. I don't honestly, I have a

[00:37:36] pretty firm understanding of who I'm showing, what I'm showing at the NSBA and the Congress,

[00:37:41] but at the World Show I'm not quite sure yet. I don't know that I'm going, I just don't know who

[00:37:46] all's going, I know I have to go. My schedule is so crazy after next week, because I'm going

[00:37:54] to Vegas this weekend, which you have complained about, though you weren't too excited about, up

[00:37:59] until, well, this is the fun trip, not the horse show. Oh, I'm just going to hide, this is just me

[00:38:05] and Jonathan. I came in kind of like the last week never happened, we're just going to go. So, you

[00:38:10] already went to the horse thing? No, they didn't have to go to that one, we didn't have to go to

[00:38:13] it, and we went to Abilene, Texas, and sat around for twelve hours until I could show Hollywood, and

[00:38:20] it took me ninety seconds, and then we were done. So this is just fun, this is just fun, but after

[00:38:27] we get back, it's the most crazy schedule. So for the World Show, I have to fly there on the first,

[00:38:33] commentate the English versatility challenge, because since she's hurt, she's not going to

[00:38:38] be able to be in it now, which was the hope, but that's fine. So I'm going to commentate, and you

[00:38:44] can watch it on live stream, and Lady Debord and Gino Spagnola, I think we're all commentating it,

[00:38:52] which I think is going to be a really fun time, and I've never done it before. I'm a little

[00:38:56] nervous, but you can watch it live and hear me commentate. So we're going to do that, and then

[00:39:01] I don't have anything even going to the World Show for another week, so then I fly back. Yeah, normal

[00:39:08] work for a week, and then go back to the World Show. Yeah, so too much. Are you going to have

[00:39:13] your bangs down when you're showing, or bangs up? I'll have to have them up, I have a cowboy hat on.

[00:39:18] I didn't know if you, so I just have my hat on, and then just bangs underneath it. That's right,

[00:39:29] on the other day, Ella Langley super-glues them to her forehead. To her eyebrows, or, yeah, her

[00:39:36] forehead, not superglue, but you know, I'm back to normal. Wow, yeah, who are you, what have you done

[00:39:43] with Katie? I did have, I did a little transition, I've been trying to experiment a little,

[00:39:53] kind of do more transitions, and if I'm going to dinner or something, if I put makeup on,

[00:39:58] utilize it and make a little thing, even if I don't have time to do a full outfit of the day,

[00:40:01] just for funsies. Some women are like, "Getting a little full of yourself, aren't you?" And I'm

[00:40:06] like, maybe, but I did one last night, and I did it to an Ella Langley song, and everyone said I

[00:40:12] look like Ella Langley, so I can see it. You could be her sister. You could be her ugly, fat sister,

[00:40:21] that is what you said. I said sister, that's exactly, I just got to go ahead and tell you,

[00:40:28] not her twin, her sister. Oh my god. Oh, older. You could be her cousin, her older sister,

[00:40:36] you could be her, you could be her. See, I thought that was a compliment, but if you could find one

[00:40:41] thing to pick apart, that's what she went for. Oh, not her twin, oh, not her identical brother,

[00:41:32] it. Yeah, if anything, I would be taking notes if I were you, watching how she's ridden, I guess.

[00:41:37] So, I'm going to talk with Stephanie on if she thinks we can utilize her for lessons until

[00:41:44] after NSBA, because we'll have a good chunk of time after NSBA. Yeah, that we're not worried

[00:41:49] about it. But, Ethel's going to NSBA, did you know that? Because Wheezy's hurt, so she's not going,

[00:41:58] but I'd already paid for a stall. Yeah, and so we were like, well, we could take Ethel, and she'd be

[00:42:04] a pony horse, because sometimes it's hard to find lunging spots at these big horse shows, and B,

[00:42:09] when you're there for so long, lunging, you're in a tighter circle, it's harder on their joints,

[00:42:14] and I don't really think it mentally gets them as prepared as you can with a pony horse. People just

[00:42:19] don't do it as well or as often, because you have to take a whole other horse, it's definitely more

[00:42:24] expensive and more time-consuming. But it's like all we have is Kennedy, why don't we go take Ethel

[00:42:31] as her pony horse to get her tired? So Ethel's going to be there. Well, just don't mess her up.

[00:42:35] I wonder if we could find a spare little arena somewhere, and Matt could have a second lesson,

[00:42:42] you could have a second lesson on how to navigate traffic. No, that's the thing,

[00:42:46] dude, dude, you want, and I said we were talking about that, the last horse show is like, doing

[00:42:50] this home thing is one thing, but if I were to ever actually do that, the scariest part would be

[00:42:59] getting to the show pen and then leaving the show pen. It's like, how, I forget that, dude, it's

[00:43:06] like I would just be sitting there in the corner, everybody else warm up, and I'd just be, "Ethel,

[00:43:09] don't move, Ethel, don't move, stay right here." Everybody's walking up to each other talking, no,

[00:43:16] that's the funny thing, is that Ethel, which we tested this out the other day because I was like,

[00:43:21] I don't know if she can go be a pony horse, because she has a history of literally throwing

[00:43:26] the brakes on and hauling her butt backwards to kick somebody with a rider on. That's not good,

[00:43:33] she does that? So, like a child has shown her? Okay. Yeah, a literal seven-year-old child has

[00:43:41] shown her. I know, but there's always first stories, and I feel like I'm always somebody's

[00:43:45] first. She's never done that, ever. We would have never ever thought that would have happened, ever.

[00:43:52] Okay, funny story to end us on, funny story to end us on, because this is one of those stories.

[00:44:00] So, as a kid, we found this horse, and I named him Leroy. We were at this old cowboy's house, he was,

[00:44:08] I think, breaking one of our young ones, and there was this ugly, Roman-nosed red horse. I'll have to

[00:44:14] find some pictures of him, I know, I know where some are. This ugly, cutting-bred horse that

[00:44:23] was in a stall, and he was kind of small, he just looked super young, he looked like a two-year-old,

[00:44:28] but he was like four. And the guy was telling us, he's like, "Yeah, I got him and four others," he's

[00:44:35] like, "I basically took them in because these people went through a divorce, and instead of

[00:44:40] splitting the horses, they just abandoned them, and the only thing they had to drink out of was

[00:44:45] the swimming pool, and they were all trapped in this enclosed area." And so they were rescued,

[00:44:51] they were all malnourished, and so this was one of them, and so he had been malnourished, and that's

[00:44:56] why he was so small even at four years old. So I bought him with my own money that I'd saved up,

[00:45:02] and, who was this? I was thirteen. Really? I think I bought him for like eight hundred dollars. Wow,

[00:45:13] wow. Which was like every birthday, every birthday money that I had ever gotten, I think I bought him

[00:45:19] for eight hundred dollars, and I worked with that horse every single day. And he wasn't super fancy

[00:45:28] broke, but he was just your tried-and-true trail horse, I would do flips off of him,

[00:45:34] I would stand up on him, I would do all this kind of, he was just super safe. Yeah. Turns out,

[00:45:40] when we started feeding him, he got a lot bigger, he ended up being like sixteen hands,

[00:45:43] but ugly as sin, so ugly, like when I say Roman nose, it's super rounded, there's no, almost,

[00:45:54] super ugly face. Some people like it, but he was just gangly, not really well built. Anyway,

[00:46:00] so I loved this horse so much, I wish I still had him. So, all that to say, I invited one of

[00:46:08] my very best friends at the time and her boyfriend to come trail ride. I rode, I think I rode Shorty,

[00:46:17] which was the horse that broke my back, but this was pre-breaking of the back. I let my best friend

[00:46:22] ride Bo, and then we were like, you know what, let's put William on Leroy, he's like the safest,

[00:46:29] most deadheaded horse. So we just go to the front pasture to walk around, we were a lot more like,

[00:46:37] "Oh yeah, let's go on a trail ride," I didn't make him, you know, I was like fifteen,

[00:46:41] sixteen. And so we go to the front pasture and we went to go up a hill, well, he leaned forward,

[00:46:49] and instead of keeping his feet in his stirrups, his legs just went right backwards, and he kicked

[00:46:54] him directly in the flanks, right before the hip, it's super sensitive, and that's how you get one

[00:47:04] to buck, they put a bucking strap back there when they want the bucking horses to buck. He put his

[00:47:10] head down and went to bronking, bronking, and got this fella off, and just tossed him to the wind,

[00:47:20] and this was a big football-player-like, brawny guy, and he refused to get back on, so he had to

[00:47:25] walk back to the barn. But I had never in my life seen that happen, he would never come back out,

[00:47:30] he was mortified. Yeah. And but still, what's the protocol? What do you mean? No, you try to

[00:47:39] stay on, so you don't want them to flip over, so if they're rearing with you, you try to get their

[00:47:45] head to the side, so you try to handle it, you don't, you lean forward and try to get their head

[00:47:49] to the side, if they're bronking with you, you try to get their head up, so you try not to let them

[00:47:55] get the reins from you, you try to get their head up, and you hold on, and you put your feet in your

[00:47:58] stirrups, your weight in your stirrups, and you try to sit. I mean, you try, and so, but you don't

[00:48:06] want that false confidence of like, "I feel like I could survive a plane crash," or, "I could land

[00:48:10] a plane," if you feel like you could handle what would happen, instead of sitting deep and staying

[00:48:14] centered, you would, I like, I'm so sorry, you would buck. Well, I feel like, yeah, everybody,

[00:48:20] if you don't know, you have your natural reaction to doing stuff like that. If the first one caught

[00:48:27] me off guard, I'm just off, like, before I think, before I even thought about it, like, I think

[00:48:35] if the first one would bounce in that situation, just like, hey, hit a sensitive spot or whatever,

[00:48:40] and he commences to bronking, I would immediately be like, okay, head to the rider. So he never

[00:48:50] came back, but anyway, that was still one of my favorite horses, and one of my favorite stories

[00:48:54] is I came home from school, and my mom's like, "You want to go get a milkshake?" And I was like,

[00:49:00] "What died, or what did you sell?" Yeah, and she had traded him for a saddle, which you still ride

[00:49:09] in. Oh, no, I don't know where that saddle is. Or a milkshake. Yeah, she traded him for a saddle,

[00:49:14] traded him for a milkshake. I came home, and he was no longer there. So that's how Leroy,

[00:49:19] and so I think he ended up being a really good 4-H horse for multiple kids, but that was really sad,

[00:49:24] that was probably one of the only times I've been so mad at my parents over selling a horse.

[00:49:28] I've usually understood, "Hey, we're going to sell this one because you need one that can fit your

[00:49:35] needs," or whatever, but that one was just like, no. I love how you even turned away. But that

[00:49:40] one was just like, no, we just traded him. Yeah. I think it's more commendable, to say that you saved

[00:49:49] up all your birthday money at thirteen, multiple birthdays, that's, I would never do that ever,

[00:49:55] it would be spent the next day. I had a stash. No. At thirteen, even having a stash is impressive.

[00:50:02] What did you say it would be spent on? Anything. I thought you said it'd be spent on V-necks. I was

[00:50:07] like, were you just like, dude, I had like thirty V-necks. Yeah, I was on my parents all the time,

[00:50:15] "Please, I need another V-neck, mom." Okay, well, we'll see how your lesson goes tomorrow. What a
