Speaker A

I'm standing in the synagogue at Capernaum.

Speaker A

So this is not a symbolic location.

Speaker A

This is not just a general area.

Speaker A

This is the place that the Gospels explicitly name.

Speaker A

All right, so in Mark, chapter one, it tells us that Jesus entered this synagogue on the Sabbath and he began to teach.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

And the Scriptures say, and immediately on the Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and was teaching.

Speaker A

But it's going to shock you, so stay with me.

Speaker A

What happens next is not acc.

Speaker A

It's actually a revelation of the unseen realm.

Speaker A

So if you look at the text, it says, and immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit.

Speaker A

Okay, this phrase really matters in your Bible.

Speaker A

So the demonized man was not brought in.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker A

He was not confronted later.

Speaker A

He was already inside this synagogue.

Speaker A

Okay, so what does that mean?

Speaker A

It means that this religious space had learned to coexist with bondage.

Speaker A

Jesus had not addressed the demon yet, so he was just simply teaching.

Speaker A

And then when you go to verse 22, it tells us that people were astonished because he's teaching with authority, not like the scribes.

Speaker A

And the Greek word is exousia, which means inherent authority, not borrowed, not quoted.

Speaker A

Authority that carries power in and of itself.

Speaker A

And they were recognizing this power.

Speaker A

Before Jesus ever commands a spirit, the word itself begins to expose what has been hidden.

Speaker A

In Hebrews chapter four, it says that the Word of God is living and active, discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Speaker A

And so light does not hunt darkness.

Speaker A

Darkness reacts to light.

Speaker A

This is what happened in this space.

Speaker A

That's why the demon manifests immediately.

Speaker A

We've seen this happen in many services, as well as I've been preaching.

Speaker A

It's just the demon begins to cry out, what have you done with us, Jesus of Nazareth?

Speaker A

Have you come to destroy us?

Speaker A

This is not confusion.

Speaker A

This is demonic recognition.

Speaker A

In James, chapter two, it says that the demons believe and they shudder.

Speaker A

The demon knows something that the congregation doesn't even fully grasp, that Jesus is not merely a teacher.

Speaker A

He is a threat to the entire kingdom of darkness here in Capernaum.

Speaker A

And actually, the demon continues to speak.

Speaker A

I know who you are.

Speaker A

The Holy One of God.

Speaker A

This is true theology spoken from a place of rebellion.

Speaker A

You know, demons, they can actually confess identity without submitting to authority.

Speaker A

Think about that.

Speaker A

Jesus immediately rebukes him, and he says, be silent and come out of him.

Speaker A

All right, so that's just two commands that you have.

Speaker A

First, be silent.

Speaker A

And then Jesus refuses testimony from an unclean source.

Speaker A

He's not even interested in a dialogue.

Speaker A

Truth spoken by rebellion.

Speaker A

Still distorts.

Speaker A

You hear what I'm saying?

Speaker A

Second, he says, come out of him.

Speaker A

Jesus does not negotiate.

Speaker A

He's not begging.

Speaker A

Jesus does not manage the spirit.

Speaker A

He evicts the spirit.

Speaker A

The text says that the unclean spirit convulsed.

Speaker A

The man, cried out with a loud voice and then came out of him.

Speaker A

This is not resistance to power.

Speaker A

It is exposure of control.

Speaker A

As a matter of fact, when you go to Luke chapter 11, it says that when a strong man enters the house, he strips the strong man of his armor and takes what is held captive.

Speaker A

This.

Speaker A

This was not a conversation.

Speaker A

It was a transfer of authority.

Speaker A

Okay?

Speaker A

Because a stronger man came in to evict the strong man.

Speaker A

And then notice where this happens.

Speaker A

Right here in the synagogue, on the Sabbath, in Jesus Ministry headquarters in Capernaum.

Speaker A

Jesus is actually now redefining holiness.

Speaker A

Holiness is not avoiding broken people.

Speaker A

Holiness is authority over what binds broken people.

Speaker A

Come on, help me with this.

Speaker A

Religion had allowed this man to sit, like, undisturbed.

Speaker A

He can just attend the services.

Speaker A

But authority would not allow that.

Speaker A

See, the people, they respond.

Speaker A

What is this?

Speaker A

A new teaching with authority, he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.

Speaker A

This is what the people are saying.

Speaker A

They do not separate doctrine from deliverance.

Speaker A

In Jesus teaching, it does something.

Speaker A

It's not just words being spoken.

Speaker A

This moment reveals something that's very, very critical for each and every one of you watching.

Speaker A

Demonic influence can exist in religious environments.

Speaker A

Attendance does not equal freedom.

Speaker A

Some of y' all need to hear that.

Speaker A

Exposure does not equal transformation.

Speaker A

But when the authority of Jesus begins to enter a space just like it entered this space, hiding becomes impossible.

Speaker A

Come on.

Speaker A

Jesus does not chase demons.

Speaker A

He reveals the truth.

Speaker A

And then what happens is demons begin to react.

Speaker A

Come on.

Speaker A

We've seen that all over the world.

Speaker A

This synagogue exposes the real battle that's taking place.

Speaker A

Not against flesh and blood, but.

Speaker A

But against rulers and authorities in the unseen realm.

Speaker A

And Jesus, he doesn't struggle against them.

Speaker A

No, he commands them.

Speaker A

He commands them because here's the thing.

Speaker A

The kingdom of God does not coexist with darkness.

Speaker A

It commands darkness.

Speaker A

It confronts it.

Speaker A

It silences it.

Speaker A

And actually it drives it out.

Speaker A

You know that same authority was given to you, right?

Speaker A

The question that this place still asks is very simple.

Speaker A

When the authority of Jesus confronts what is hidden in us, do we submit or do we resist?

Speaker A

You know, his authority, it is not changed.

Speaker A

As a matter of fact, he wants to give that same authority to you.

Speaker A

The only thing that really changes is our response to it.

Speaker A

So if you'll say yes to Jesus right now.

Speaker A

If you'll say, Jesus, I'm responding to your authority.

Speaker A

I want to be free, and I want to use my life to free others.

Speaker A

As a matter of fact, when you go through the scriptures, you find that eventually he empowers disciples to go out and cast out demons.

Speaker A

And then when you go into the early church, they're still casting out demons.

Speaker A

And how many of you believe that 2,000 years later, we are still doing the work of confronting and evicting demons from people who desperately need deliverance?

Speaker A

And this synagogue is a reminder that you can go to church.

Speaker A

Just like standing in your garage does not make you a car, standing in a church does not make you a Christian.

Speaker A

You can learn the Scriptures, people all the time.

Speaker A

Oh, I love reading the Bible.

Speaker A

Listen, the devil can quote the entire Bible to you, but he does not submit to any of it.

Speaker A

He doesn't surrender to any of it.

Speaker A

It's the word of God that you don't just hear, but you obey and you do.

Speaker A

And so this is.

Speaker A

This is the question I want to ask you from this synagogue is are you going to continue to work with the enemy to actually hide and stay in secrecy?

Speaker A

Or like the man that was in here, are you going to participate with the deliverer as he's bringing deliverance?

Speaker A

Come, I want to pray for you right now.

Speaker A

And by the way, there's one last group of people.

Speaker A

Use the authority that you've been given.

Speaker A

You've been given authority.

Speaker A

When Jesus was here teaching the Scriptures, they acknowledged it.

Speaker A

You need to acknowledge that that same spirit is living on the inside of you right now.

Speaker A

And greater he that is in me than he that is in the world.

Speaker A

And so use that authority.

Speaker A

A lot of times people, you know, go to church for years and years, they don't fully understand what they have access to.

Speaker A

But it says, in my name, they will cast out demons in my name.

Speaker A

They heal the sick and even raise the dead.

Speaker A

Father, I thank you right now for everybody watching that you have given them the authority, the same authority that Jesus exercised here in Capernaum.

Speaker A

God, you've given to them.

Speaker A

And Lord, I thank you that they're going to rise up as breakers in your name, breaking every single chain of darkness through your power, through your blood, Jesus.

Speaker A

And we thank you for that.

Speaker A

In your name we pray.

Speaker A

Amen.

Speaker A

Amen.
