I'm Cedric and This is your EM Morning Brief for Thursday 15th January 2026.

Alaska leads the national picture this morning.

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has blizzard warnings for the bering Strait Coast, St. Lawrence island and Shishmaref from this afternoon through Saturday with winter storm warningsadvisories expanding across the Brooks Range and Yukon Kuskokwim areas.

Travel could be limited to emergencies in the warned zones across the Great Lakes and Appalachians.

Lake effect snow and dangerous wind chills continue in spots.

Localized winter weather advisories remain up from Michigan into Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

In the West, Widespread heavy rain isn't the headline today.

WPC notes very low flash flood probabilities through Saturday, but mariners from the Pacific Northwest to New England face small craft and gale hazards overnight.

In Southern California, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck near Holtville in Imperial County.

No official damage reports yet on the USGS page, but light shaking was felt locally.

Hawaii rounds out the national hazards with a wind advisory over the Big island summits as a front approaches.

Alaska Hazardous winter weather sets in late today through Saturday.

Blizzard warnings for the bering Strait Coast, St. Lawrence island and Shishmaref begin 3pm Thursday to 3pm Saturday AKST with whiteout conditions likely in gusts.

Winter storm warnings cover parts of the Brooks Range, Upper Kobuk, Lower Koyukuk from this evening through late Saturday and winter weather advisories line the Yukon Delta.

Lower Yukon California Overnight Seismicity USGS reports magnitude 4.4 at 1.54 PST near Holtville, Imperial County.

Depth approximately 20 km.

Florida Arcadia DeSoto county schedules a water outage and boil water notice today January 15th for E. Magnolia State between S. Luther and S. Pasco.

SPC also notes isolated thunderstorms possible offshore of the Southwest coast late tonight.

Hawaii Wind advisory remains posted for the Big island summits with a front bringing stronger southerlies and unsettled marine conditions around the state.

Maine Marine hazards continue along the Gulf of Maine.

Gale warning's small craft advisories remain in effect off the ME NH coast with hazardous seas and strong winds.

Michigan Winter weather advisory holds this morning for Huron and sanilac counties with 1 to 3 inch additional lake effect snow and sub zero wind chills.

Gale and heavy freezing spray warnings are up on Lake Huron through late morning early afternoon.

North Carolina Two municipal notices today.

Hendersonville has a planned System Pressure Advisory 9:00am to 12:00pm near 69 Balfour Rudeed once service returns, boil water until cleared.

Surf City continues its hydrant replacement program with a precautionary boilwater advisory today through approximately 4:00pm around the replacement zone.

Oregon Small craft advisories continue for the central north coast waters with 6 to 9ft seas and 15 to 25 knot winds.

Air stagnation advisories persist inland in spots.

Pennsylvania Winter Weather Advisory remains this afternoon for Cambria and Somerset counties with up to 3 inches of additional snow and gusts to 45 mph.

Washington Dense fog advisory for the Seattle Metro and adjacent lowlands through noon PST with near zero visibility in places.

West Virginia winter weather advisory holds until 1pm EST for parts of Pocahontas, Randolph, Webster, Upshire, Barbour and Nicholas counties.

Additional 1 to 2 inches of snow and gusts 35 to 50 mph.

A cold weather advisory overlaps some higher terrain into Friday morning.

All other states have no significant updates in the last 24 hours.
